This is Sheriff Rothsteel of Panell County. I'm up in our brand new AAR helicopter with my beautiful wife's favorite pilot, 1860 himself. Introduced yourself, Corby. >> I'm Deputy Corby Pakora. Uh, I've been with the aviation unit for about 13 years in the sheriff's office for almost 18. >> And if you guys didn't know, my beautiful wife has been an international flight attendant for 28 years, and Corby is her favorite pilot. That's how much trust I have in it. >> I appreciate that, Sheriff. Thank you. So this thing it's called an AAR. What? >> This is a Airbus H125. It's uh the uh variant of uh uh single engine helicopter called the AAR. Yeah. >> What's the advantages of this and the disadvantage of this over the Super Huey? >> Well, the Huey is obviously bigger, so we're able to bring uh people into the cabin. The only disadvantage that I found with the AAR so far is that we can't bring a litter inside the aircraft, so the person has to ride outside of it. Lots of advantages to this aircraft is the uh uh cost of ownership, the maintenance on it. It's a little faster, it's a little quieter, it's got air conditioning, uh it's got the autopilot on there, and uh so a lot of advanced safety features. >> And you've flown just about anything that's got wings or a blade on it. >> I've flown about 25 different airframes over my career. And uh the uh the AAR is definitely uh holds a place in my heart. I started in search and rescue in 2009 and loved it. I I will tell you at 38 years old. I got to be uh repel certified and also helicopter repel certified. So, but back then we didn't have a helicopter that you could repel out of, let alone hoist out of. That's why I think that this is just such a a great improvement to the search and rescue division. It's I remember when I was a lieutenant over aviation and search and rescues when you first approached me about getting a helicopter and explained the needs that we needed it for. and I saw back then the benefit to the county and I'm so glad we were able to make it to fruition. >> I do remember you being on search and rescue. I remember being a patrol guy and watching you take off going and get get into the search and rescue stuff and was always envious of those guys to be able to do the job that they did. So, uh I'm very fortunate to be able to come to work every day and be part of that because it's uh it's not something everybody gets to do and um certainly uh certainly the best job I've ever had. >> So, when we first met you were a Mammoth PD police officer. I was. Yes, sir. >> And you did not have a pilot's license back then. >> I did not have a pilot license. I uh I worked to earn my uh pilot license early on while I was a tactical flight officer in the unit. And uh as I started getting my ratings, the sheriff's office um had an increased need. So, they helped me uh get all my ratings. This is for from Arizona DEMA a grant. Um, and uh the um the grant uh gave us the ability to be able to lease it and then uh at the end of the lease, the sheriff's office has the option to buy it for a
