hey folks Sheriff mark Lampa now county arizona we're out here on patrol and we are addressing an issue that comes up to me quite frequently actually from frustrated drivers so we got a whole group of cars coming up here and obviously this guy in the front isn't moving over so we're gonna go ahead and make a traffic stop on this guy right here this is a typical violation here so we're gonna get in behind this vehicle and make a traffic stop you're supposed to be driving in the right lane left lane is only for passing you had four vehicles waiting to go by you that you were holding up traffic for a lot of people don't realize this is an actual infraction under arizona revised statutes and that is driving in the left lane now the actual statute is 28 721 which is called driving on the right side of the roadway which says you should need to be driving on the right except to pass now I'm gonna read it on all roadways of sufficient with a person shall drive a vehicle on the right half of the roadway except as follows when overtaking and passing another vehicles proceed in the same direction when the right half of the roadway is closed or on a roadway divided into three mark lanes here's one of the key ones because they get a lot of people say well I'm driving the speed limit this is a beat on all roadways a person driving a vehicle proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and put in place and under the conditions then existing shall drive the vehicle in the right hand lane what we're gonna do right now is we're gonna look for some vehicles that are actually violating this because it is a violation so we're gonna be looking for people that are just camping out in the left lane and we're gonna make them aware we're not gonna do any tickets today but we are gonna do some traffic awareness so he's basically just camped out in the left lane I'm gonna move over and see what he does if he if he moves over for me if not then we're gonna conduct a traffic stop on him we're gonna pull him over you're gonna get him educated it was hundreds of yards before you and the next vehicle and even when I moved over you didn't move over and that's what impedes the flow and what you should be doing is exactly what that car did in front of us and that is signaling back and getting back over so if you look in my mirror here we've got this red car coming up here all alone and they're just traveling along in the left lane so we're gonna educate this vehicle and this is a violation folks this is a violation of Arizona revised statutes so as you can see he's just driving it camped out in the left lane do you know why I stopped you if you guessed that would be that would be impressed so today I'm doing a traffic detail for are you aware that you're supposed to be traveling in the right lane then the left lane is only for passing were you aware that you did do right then that was good so one of the big things about why this is important it does create a traffic hazard and a lot of people feel like they can travel wherever when I'm in the left lane I can see much better if I have to go around I'm kind of coming into a blind pass where I don't necessarily see as a driver what could be in that lane we watched him a little ways back there he's been traveling in the left lane the whole way so we're actually gonna conduct a traffic stop on this guy he's had plenty of time to move back over to the right get the weapons or drugs in the car just pissed on me big ok excellent just leave it in there for now no the reason why I stopped you you know why I was speeding for sure well the speed might have been a factor I'm actually keep stopping people because a lot of people realize you're supposed to travel in the right lane the left lane is only for passing we have a perfect example of a vehicle right here that I've been watching people are having to pass in the right lane and they're just sitting here in the left lane so they're still here and I'm behind them they should have moved over into the right lane they haven't were you aware that on normal travel you're supposed to travel in the right lane and that the left lane is only for passing a lot yet no it's not new so you're supposed to only drive on the right side of the roadway unless the pass or in a construction zone actually I didn't know what was going on with a with sheriff lamb put me over but he pulled me over because I was driving in the left hand lane and I didn't know I supposed to be driving in the right hand lane I'm just doing warnings so I just wanted to make you aware that's you know all right I appreciate it thanks chef lift like give me a ticket and I appreciate it and I bet guarantee you'll think about it next time all right man have a good one I'm not gonna give you a ticket I'm just making people aware of it today okay I'm gonna let you go today no just a verbal warning most people aren't aware of that so we're trying to educate people until they look at what I said it now montz it's Bobby's time to let him do okay the only way that I mean when I'm going out there so no tickets just want to just want to make you aware okay all right folks so today we were able to educate a few people but the reason we do these videos is so that we can educate more people we want everybody to drive safe today hopefully everybody learn
