my name is misty teregino i live in san tan valley my daughter is kaylee she's 17 years old and she went to san tan foothills high school on april 12th my daughter passed away from an accidental fentanyl overdose she purchased a pill what she thought was a percocet on snapchat from somebody and she did not wake up she played sports all through you know from the time she was little she did cheer and softball she was you know an honorable student almost every quarter yeah so she was always involved in something getting ready to graduate early 17 years old super smart super smart very funny the best big sister [Music] it's not like she was going out to parties it's not like she was you know running the streets always stayed home her girlfriends would come over and spend the night i'm a registered nurse see very very ill people that come in that have overdosed and then i see people that are still battling their addiction the night prior we had talked about you know drinking more specifically prescription medication i had saw something on the news one of my patients actually kind of prompted the conversation had a conversation with her and i just told her you know you would never do that right you would never take any prescription pills right and she assured me she would not it was a normal night normal night it was like five minutes before 9 30 and she said that she was going to start her homework online and gave me a kiss and said goodnight i love you and went upstairs [Music] i went upstairs to wake her up to see if she wanted to go shopping with me and her door was locked and i instantly knew something was wrong banged on the door couldn't get in so my son my oldest son her brother helped me open the door and she was in bed she was just laying in bed like she was laying there with her laptop open like she had been doing schoolwork on her belly just like maybe watching her videos or doing her schoolwork and she just didn't wake up so i grabbed her and my son was with me and i obviously knew it was too late and i checked for a pulse and she was cold and i knew that it was too late and so my son had to see it unfortunately and so i had him get out and call 9-1-1 i've saved a lot of people and i really wanted to be able to save her [Music] these kids don't even have to seek it out it will come across their snapchat stories their instagram stories and it's essentially just a menu so many parents don't realize that it's here and that our kids are able to get their hands on it you know i've heard parents say well you know my kids don't know any older adults or my kids don't know anybody from mexico or wherever it was initially coming from parents are in total shock that the phone is how they can just get it these kids are in this experimenting age where you know they want to you know maybe take a pill and have a fun night get high think nothing of it but the issue is now is that one pill can and will kill you i know other families are going to go through this but i'd like to help prevent you
