Stop me. Stop. >> Yes, I am. Let go of my >> I didn't do the >> reckless repeat offender thought she could steal without ever paying the price. >> No. Get off me. >> You're not leaving. >> So, you're being detained until we figure out what's going on. But this time, a trap was set, and the unforeseen consequences were waiting right ahead. Police set up a sting operation at Target to catch a thief who had successfully shoplifted eight times before. But this time, things wouldn't end so easily. >> Get off me. >> Stop. >> No. Get off me. When officers demanded to check her bag, dozens of items with intact Target tags were revealed, proving her guilt. Yet, she stubbornly refused to admit it. >> So, you're identifying somebody from this store who has had history of ducking here. Today, you received for a while possibly concealing items to include clothing, jewelry, some other items. stop and selfch checkout and they wanted me to get you identified so that they can prosecute you for the other incidents and they wanted to know if you concealed any other items. >> Be willing to to open up your purse just so I can see you didn't conceal anything. >> So there's items with Target tags on those. >> I came in here with that. >> What's that? >> I came in here with that. >> Yeah. So it's like an underwear, jewelry, and like a pair of shoes. >> I don't have no shoes. >> About the jewelry. >> This is jewelry. I've been here with this. >> So, every single one of those things has tags on them. And when they go back through, that's a lot of jewelry. >> Cornered and desperate, the woman screamed and fought, doing everything she could to escape, forcing police to physically subdue her on the spot. >> So, right now, you're under arrest for theft. >> For what? >> For theft. I just >> stop me. >> No. Stop. >> No. Get off. Stop. Stop. Please get off me. >> You don't have to. >> You absolutely does not have to. You broke my watch. >> Oh my gosh. Please get off me. >> Hey, put your hands behind your back. You're under arrest. >> Get off for what? >> You're under arrest for theft. Just like I told you before. >> Okay, let me get up. Take her in. >> Let me get up. >> No. Lay down. >> Can I get up? >> Put your hands behind your back. >> Can I get up? >> Hands behind your back. >> Can I get up, please? >> Hey, stop pulling your hands up. >> Hey, let me get up. >> Can I please get up? >> No. >> No. >> Why? >> Listen. Can I please get up? >> Listen, the more you resist, the more things I do that's going to hurt. Stop. >> Stop. >> Stop resisting. >> As soon as you stop resisting, we can get you in handcuffs. >> Come and bring it to the low back. >> I'm not trying to go to jail. >> Well, you just chose it today. >> Sir, I'm not trying to go to jail. I'm sorry. I'm not trying to go to jail, though. >> You should have thought about that before you run. >> I'm reasonable. I could have cited you and released you. You started this. >> I'm so sorry. >> Now you're under arrest for obstruction as well for trying to run through. I'm >> so sorry. >> Take a step to your left. Separate your feet. >> I don't want you to kick my partner. If you do, you're going to get an assault on officer charge, too. >> Please, please let me go. Please. I >> think the throwing of the Pepsi on me is not necessary. >> I know. I'm so sorry. I really do apologize. Like, can you please let me go? >> No. >> I just got out of jail. Okay. Uhuh. The chaos reached its peak when the simple shoplifting case suddenly escalated into a serious felony with multiple charges piling up. >> Go to your deal. >> Try out to jail. >> All right, your feet. Look at the car. >> You want to grab my API scanner, too? >> Are you gonna give us a good name? All right. So, everything is being recorded on my body cam as well as my partner's body cam. >> So, what I'm going to do is first we're going to grab your index fingers just to make sure you provide us a real name. Okay. >> What were you in jail for before? >> Cuz I had two old mornings that I just squashed. >> And what were those for? >> Um, a DUI and um a trespassing motel 6. >> Okay. All right. So, this going to be the back of my hand. I'm going to pat you down. Make sure you have any weapons on you. Before I do that, can you tell me if you have any sharp, dangerous, pitch, hazardous needles, bazookas, guns? Okay. Back of my hand, >> guys. I'm trying to go to jail. >> Yeah, you you have tried to establish that. >> Oh my god. >> This is my here. >> Anything else secreted on you? >> What's your first name? >> Tuah. >> Tuah. >> Mhm. Okay. >> Tuah. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used as it gets you in a court of law. You have the right at this time to talk to a lawyer, have a present with you while you're being questioned. And when you walk out the door with those items in your bag, you knew you didn't pay for them. You knew you stole. >> Is that about right? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, why come in here to steal? >> Cuz I don't have the money for it. I don't know. I don't have the money for it. >> Do you have a job? >> No. >> Can you get a job? >> Yes. >> Okay. Why don't you do that instead of coming into Target trying to steal? Why don't you come in to Target and ask for work? >> Okay. Yeah. >> I know it's not always that easy, but sometimes it is. >> All these businesses around here are trying to recover from CO, so everybody's got a hiring sign up. >> Do you have a drug problem you're maybe paying for with these drugs or with these with these stolen items? >> Yes. >> Okay. What's the going rate now for like underwear and jewelry and stuff? Or was that for your own personal use? >> The underwear was my own personal use. >> And then what are you getting for jewelry these days? jewelry. I was going to sell it to somebody to for them to buy it for my drug habits. >> How many blues are you getting for like a piece of jewelry? >> Like one? >> Just one? >> Yeah. >> Where you getting that at? >> When the stolen goods worth $1,500 were counted, the terrified thief realized the devastating truth. This time it would be a felony charge and a permanent ban from Target. So far, what they said was the total that you have stolen from this store is between 1,500 and $2,000. So, if that's the case, then we're looking at possible felony charges for organized retail theft, depending on how the prosecutor wants to handle it, >> or each one of those days is a separate theft charge. >> Okay. Go through her bag and see what other stuff is in there for receipt. >> I have a dollar amount for everything else, especially concealed >> so far. Yeah, so far. Can somebody pull video to show that whole incident plus us taking her down? >> Yep. I'll be able to have all of that. >> Please, I'm not trying to. >> Okay. The woman now faces multiple charges including theft of property, $1,500,0 over several incidents, assaulting police officers, resisting arrest, and drug possession. Next, a woman screams in the middle of the street, accusing of being chased for no reason. But is she really just a victim? >> You're not leaving. >> Yes, I am. Let go of my >> I didn't do Let go. >> You're not leaving. >> So, you're being detained until we figure out what's going on. >> She insisted she wasn't carrying anything, but why did the bag suddenly fall flat after turning into another store? It's >> tragic. Okay. Probably cuz maybe you had stuff that didn't belong to you. >> He's accusing me of that. No, I didn't do anything wrong. >> Okay. >> He said, >> "So, you and I said, "That's fine. You can trespass me." >> Okay. >> He said, "I've been walking today. >> Did you want to talk with me outside just so we're not in a doctor's office?" >> Yeah. >> I called my husband cuz he would not stop following me. Like he he like chased me all the way across the street. I hope you like >> run through oncoming traffic to try to get away from you. >> Understood. Yeah. So, we're we'll make it right whatever is going on >> first and foremost. So, I like to uh stay safe and so the guy who is following you, he called us. Um and then I guess did you also call us as well? >> Yeah. I don't know if I didn't get routed to the right place or what? It >> it did come through. >> I did. I hung up when I got in here. The lady let me in here and she said she would call the police and I said okay. bandmates that I could sit down. >> Yeah. So, it did come through. >> Hello. Hey, are you here? >> Negative. I'm out with a female. Uh, loss prevention is going to be at Firestone. >> Um, going to try to recover some property from over there. So, we'll need someone to meet the LP guy at Firestone and then go to Kohl's as well. >> Can Can you please come pick me up? T for start by going to Firestone and if there's property discarded in the bathrooms, take pictures of it. >> So, first and foremost, uh I just want to make sure everyone's safe. Um >> yeah, so can you escort me away from here? So where he can't follow me anymore? >> So he is not here. So he was here and he's over at Firestone now. >> Firestone. >> Um because I guess that's where you were and um it was believed that maybe some property that was in your bag might be in there. I don't have any. >> Um, so that um, so there was mention that you mentioned to him that you're armed and maybe that's just because you were scared. Um, so >> it was because I'm scared. I do I can I do you I don't want to go in my bag or anything. I can take it off. I can hand it to you. >> Okay. >> The woman repeatedly asked to leave the scene, but the police declared if she walked away, she would be arrested immediately. >> Like who chases a woman? Like I had several old men ask me if I needed help. I had people like >> um so let's start with the bag thing. So, uh you said no weapons and no stolen property in your bag or anything like that. >> Nope. >> Okay. Is is it okay if I search it and make sure? >> Yeah. >> In your jacket. >> 218. >> Thank you. >> I'm right outside the front door. >> But other than this, how's your day? How's your day going? Other than this craziness, right? >> This is my first errand assert. It's a nice day. Oh boy. >> I'm out walking to my errands. I went into playful. >> Is it okay if I take your ID out? >> I was going to tell you absolutely it's out and >> Okay. >> Oh, well, no, cuz you don't need that. >> Okay. Well, as soon as uh it's determined whether a crime was or was not committed. Um I I will >> I don't even commit a crime. >> Well, we're going to find out. >> I don't have anything on me. I don't I did not commit a crime. >> Okay. So, I'm just saying that because that guy's accusing you of it. >> Yeah, I know. I don't have anything on me. I I did not I did not steal anything from you. >> So So we're going to check the cameras at Kohl's and if it's determined that you did, then I will get your ID. That's how that works. Okay. >> Okay. So I can leave in the meantime. >> Nope. You're detained. Not allowed to leave. If you try to leave, you be arrested. >> How can you detain me when I haven't committed a crime? >> Because someone >> I'm accusing him of a crime and you're not detaining him. >> One second. Getting a phone call. >> Hey, >> are you done? No, it's possible. Um, but go to a Firestone. So, we we first have to confirm whether a crime was committed or not. The bag that she had uh was full of stuff before she went to Firestone. Upon leaving Firestone, it's empty. So, it's believed that items were discarded inside of Firestone's bathroom. So, go over there. Um, take pictures of the bathroom. Um, just take pictures whether there's stuff in there or not. um recover the property if any. >> Tensions flare. She screams, struggles, accuses the police of arresting the wrong person. But is it really that simple? >> And then >> like someone in plain clothes chasing you. I didn't. No crime is committed. You have no proof. You have no right to detain. >> Yes, I do. So you're not leaving. If you leave, you're going to go to jail right now. So you're staying right here. >> That's That's not true. >> That's how it works. >> That's how I already explained that to you, right? >> I know my rights and I have not done anything wrong. You cannot detain me. >> Yeah. Someone accuse you of a crime. >> I'm accusing him of a crime and you're not detaining him. >> So he's Cole security. >> It doesn't matter who he is. You cannot harass people. You cannot put your hands on people. You cannot chase people. I'm a female. >> We are not holding court. This is how it's going to work. You're going to stay here. >> We figure out what's going on. >> You know that that's illegal. >> So >> okay, not going to argue with him. >> It's illegal. I have not done anything wrong. >> Put this down. Turn this back on. You're not leaving. >> Yes, I am. Let go of my >> I didn't do >> Let go. I'm not Listen, I'm cold. I'm trying to leave. >> Let go. Let go of the jacket. >> Let go of the jacket. >> Let go of the jacket. >> There's no You have no right to leave right now and you're not leaving. >> So, you're being detained until we figure out what's going on. >> Oh my god. Oh my god. I know my rights. You guys are going to be in so much trouble. >> Okay. Well, you're being detained until >> How far am I going to get with cuffs on? >> You're the one who got uncalled and it's on. Is your body camera on? I was trying to put my jacket on. >> Okay, so >> I wanted my stuff back. He searched my jacket. He searched my purse. Listen, >> I I understand. So, >> you searched my jacket. You searched my purse. It's windy. I wanted my jacket back on. That's it. You're the one who got violent >> cuz you're trying to leave the scene. >> I'm not trying to leave. >> You just told us you were leaving and you were putting your jacket on and walking away. What are you talking about? >> Okay, I understand. >> Thank you. >> So, ma'am, what we're going to do, I'm going to have you sit on this bench and then once we're And then we're going to play the waiting game. >> Can you please take these off of me? >> No. >> They're hurting. >> They're not meant for comfort. And >> I didn't do anything wrong. They're hurting me. I have >> So, how about this? How will you work with us cuz we're being nice to you and you're trying to escalate the situation. >> But if we can all agree to be nice, I >> Thank you. So, how about you take it down a notch? Let us figure out what's going on. You >> did say actually you did, but that's irrelevant to right now cuz it's not a big deal. But let us figure out our job and figure out what's going on here. And if nothing happened, you'll be on your way. >> Security personnel reveal surprising details. They once found her pitiful, but it turned out it was all just a calculation. >> I was watching the cameras. I saw that she had a bag like underneath her jacket, which I thought was strange. I started to watch her on cameras and and I saw that she would select items off the shelves, put them into the bag. The bag was getting bigger and then eventually she exited the store without paying. I confronted her. I said, "Hey, I'm lost in rent with coals. I'd like you to, you know, give me my stuff back." She feed ignorance. I don't know what you're talking about, man. Get away from me. I don't have nothing. I said, "Why don't you give me the stuff back? We'll trespass you. You know, you'll be on your way." She said, "I don't have anything. Get away from me." And then she she ran from poles over this way. She went into Firestone here and her bag was very full at that time. >> Um, matter of fact, that's that's what I have on video here of here. Here you can see her bag is so so full. >> And then when when she came out of the bathroom there, I didn't follow her into the bathroom. I just waited, you know, and then when she came out, her bag was flat like a pancake. >> Oh, I didn't go through this yet, but I know I just took a peek and I seen a couple things of poles like that. >> I didn't see anything that would prevent her and her criminal history from doing a pad, but the amount of stuff that she stole from Poles exceeded the Florida statute amount to where it became a felony. So, because it's a felony theft, unfortunately, she has to take your trip and then you can she'll she'll call you once she's down there to kind of update you. Um, and then she just has to log out due to her having little to no criminal history. I I don't know if there's I know she has to speak to a judge and he has to set the bond and all that. I don't know when that will be, but I'm sure shortly after she would probably be released, you know, upon paying whatever the bond is, but that's what we're looking. >> So, today, >> I hope so. I don't know what times. I know usually it's in the morning. It's still kind of >> in Florida. Theft of $750,0 cents or more is a thirdderee felony with a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison, probation, or a fine of up to $5,000. The woman was charged with felony theft and resisting arrest. Although she has no prior criminal record, she was required to appear in court and post bail. The case will be processed through criminal proceedings.
