On August 1st, 2024, at around 8:02 p.m., a hitandrun incident occurred in the Seabbrite area, prompting the Seabbrite police to issue a below or be on the lookout alert for a black Lexus with a damaged driverside mirror. This vehicle was reportedly involved in a collision and had fled the scene. The alert was broadcast to nearby law enforcement, including the Middletown Township Police Department. The suspect vehicle, later identified as a 2021 black Lexus ES3, was driven by Elizabeth M. Atonasio. Just minutes later, at around 8:18 p.m., Middletown police officers located the vehicle at the intersection of Route 36 South and Appleton Avenue in Middletown, New Jersey. This set the stage for the DUI investigation that followed, which we'll cover next. Using the body cam footage, Jack. Oh, Jesus. Go to the police. I do not have a jack. No, you guys don't have one in your car. And I don't I don't have a jack. Let's all go over here to the grass. You have a jack? No, we don't have those. You don't have you don't have the jack. No, we don't we don't get those. I have friends that are bottle jack. Nothing. Yeah, they needed a flat one because that's for my bigger truck. I can't put it in. Oh, it's not low enough. Yeah, the flat one. Uh I don't know. It's weird because she's supposed to have all the challenger. Really? Yes. The uh who's got the Charger? The Challenger? Me. No Jack either. No, we're not in luck. if I did. Well, the case here is no joke. This is a brand new Lexus that I bought, but like there's like nothing brand new and they didn't give you that? I know. Well, it's like certified deal. Certified. Okay. Well, all right. So, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if we can't get the vehicle off the highway, I'm going to have to call a tow truck to have a tow. Not say it's impound or anything. Well, can they just like change the into the flat? They might be able to, but either way, they probably have to charge or something cuz Three vehicles on the highway is unsafe. I know this is just unlucky, but can I do like the drive? I have a question. Do you mind if I ask where you were coming from? Um I coming from home. Where's home? Loose. Old bridge. Old bridge. Yeah. You're coming from home. Where you headed to? Don't lose that key, honey. I got to go. Okay, hold on. Just stand by. 31400 county. I think I might be out with uh Sebrite's uh hit and run vehicle. Is it happen to be a black Alexis with a missing driver side mirror? What happened? Roadside coming towards me. So, what happened? Okay, just get off the highway. Yep. Uh just you know, my name's Basic. This is being a recorded body camera. You wouldn't have to be coming from CBR, would you? No. where they just had a hit and run vehicle. Exactly described as like your vehicle, black vehicle, missing. No, no, no, not at all. Cuz your tire is shredded, too. What' you hit? Um, that's not a flat tire that you hit something. I definitely had like a low tire from hitting Dunkin Donuts. I definitely didn't have Sorry. What? You You do. You know what you hit? Cuz you hit something. No, I hit a curb. I hit a curb. Where at? Definitely in the donuts this morning. Okay. Cuz you saying you were leaving Old Bridge to go back to Old Bridge also doesn't make sense. No, no, no. Cuz that's not what I said. I did. I said where you come from. You said old driver. I was looking for my friend, but she was obviously like not there. Looking for a passenger side with damage. They're still reviewing footage to the appreciate. So wait, did this happen in Middletown? This happened in Old Bridge. Like in Old Bridge earlier today. Yeah. No. No. Where you hit the I'm talking where the tire the tire happened in Old Bridge on my Dunkin Donuts parking lot. How'd you make it down here on that? No, no, no. Earlier today, I had an issue with my tire. Yeah, I've got I got Dunkin Donuts earlier today. All right, let's No, no. I I believe you there. Let's just stand out of the way. Here's my Duncan. Here's my Duncan. No, I I got that. Definitely had it. And then I hit the curb and then I came down to go to the beach. You made it all the way from home right now. And I also on that. No, this this happens on my way home from the ferry. I park at the sea. That's what I'm asking. Yeah. Oh, I park at the Sea Streak every day. Okay. This Okay. So, this happened in Atlantic Highlands. Yes. Or Highlands? Yes. Okay. Yes. All right. Uh, yeah. That's completely ripped. I'm aware. All right. So, this happened. You made it from the sea street to here. I work on Wall Street. So, I got my Dunkin Donuts. I hit the curb. I went to work in the city and then I was on my way home. I was my friend at the beach. And then this happened to me. I got a front tire. This happened. This happened because I because I parked so close to a truck in my house. Okay. So, but this happened at the sea street. This happened probably at the Dunkin Donuts. Okay. Go ahead. They're looking for a black Honda type vehicle. Sedan missing the PS5 here. No, that's not me. That's not me. I got you. No, I got you. That's not me. I was not. I was not. Okay. So, regardless, that vehicle's How long till Geico gets here? like probably 10 or 15 minutes. 10 or 15 minutes. Yeah. Okay, that that's doable. All right. Just cuz if they took anything longer, I'd have to call one of our local tow trucks cuz Oh, no, no, no. I will get it. I will get it. No, I'm just saying if it's longer than 10 minutes, I got to I literally live in New Jersey. I street. I'm not like a bad person. Um I do however have to I think notify Atlanta cuz damage 400 county. Can you also check with Highlands, see if they had any uh property damage reports or hidden runs related to a black vehicle as well? Yeah, I got to be with you though until you're here considering you all the same. Stand by. I'm so sorry. No, nothing. It's just my dispatch trying to talk to me. No. So, I have to be with you here till the vehicle's moved. Otherwise, I got a call and have a move. Oh, you never moved. It's fine. for the one vehicle. I'm having anxiety. Like I don't know why. Like I'm like even dealing with I'm having like I'm stressed out. Okay, that's fine. I'm sure this is stressful. But no, I'm saying if Geico Road said he's going to be here in 10 minutes, that's fine. Um but until that I have to wait with you here until the vehicle's picked up. Can't just leave it on the side of the road. You said guy call roadside assistance on the way, right? I would like it. I would like it to be told. Well, if you said they're on the way and they can get the vehicle don't know how to be you don't know how long they're going to be. Okay. Yep. Hey guys, how are you? All right, I'm going to call you. Nice to meet you. So you don't know how long Geico roadside is going to be? I think like 10 minutes if it has to be towed. I'm not like pissed. I am pissed because I live in a development where my car got hit and then you like my car and I don't know where it is. No, they would give you a business card if you can. Do you want me to show the guy that lives next? And where are you coming from right now, man? So, I I live in Oakidge and I work in Manhattan. I work in I commute from the Atlantic Coms and Yeah. But where are you coming from right now? The Sea Streak area. The Sea Streak area. Yeah. Like Okay. Where were you? I was home. I went down to get my car and then came back and we drove him back. Okay. How did you get to Sea Street? Uh drove with his car. But you said your car was there. No, no, no. Sorry. Let's start fresh. All right. So, where are you coming from right now? How did your car get old? I went down to the sea street area. I was in Port Manhattan and then I decided not to. From sea street until you got here. I came from home. No. No. But we I get you bridge. You came from over street. Yes. Yes. Yes. And I came from here. From street. Yes. Okay. And what were you doing down at Sea Street? I parked there only to go to Manhattan. I worked Were you at the Sandbox? No. No. No. No. Not at all. No. I swear I thought I was not. You were going to go to the Manhattan right now? I was. No. So, I was meeting friends. Okay. And then I changed my mind cuz my husband got jealous and he didn't want me to go. So, I was going home. Okay. Next question is going to be, have you been drinking today? No. Not anything? No. No. Not even a glass of wine. You got one. Try to Okay. So, now you see where where this story is going. So, you you're telling me that you've got your car got hit the other day. You didn't report it. I look at your car. It looks like you clearly sideswiped something. That's why your front tire is now flat. You're missing your side view mirror. You're missing your car. I ask you to be honest with me. You tell me, "No, I haven't been drinking at all." And now maybe you had something to drink at lunch. So, do we want to start over completely and tell us what happened today? So, I worked from home. Okay. I was going to go to work in Manhattan and I decided not to. I went down to hang out with a couple of friends, but I did not like get drunk. But you were drinking. Had a glass of wine for sure. And now I'm driving home. Yeah. I did not I was not anywhere. How did you get the flat tire? Um, so I hit a curb at the Delatory and I think that's why I got a fire. There's no way you made it. No, no, no. I think I got I think I hit a curb. So, man, I'm going to ask again for you to just be honest because we do this a lot. So, we see accidents. We see damage. We see how it looks. If you go look at the car, you can tell that you can tell that you hit something with your car. Not just a curve. Not just a curve. Curve. No, it's definitely a curve. That is from my neighbor who's an [ __ ] who parks his um SUVs. Okay. So, when's the last time you had this drink that you're talking about? What time was it? 2 p.m. 2 p.m. So, you've just been sitting in the parking lot at Sea Strike Street since 2:00 p.m. I was just hanging out with my friends. Like, what were you doing at Sandbox? Um catching a fan like Okay. So, when I asked you were at Sandbox, you said you weren't at Sandbox, correct? No, I wasn't. I don't know the sandbox. I don't know if that's the right thing. I was definitely at the beach or right next to the confusing me. I'm sorry. All right. So, I'm smelling alcohol coming from you. Okay. Which you said you're drinking. So, I'm going to put you through some field sobriety test. Okay. Of course. Okay. No problem. Just stand right over there for me. You want to do them or uh you just got to talk to that everyone's supposed to be doing them on their own. I don't know if that's your spot or not. It's been over a year or something. Okay. That's fine. Yeah. Yeah. We'll do it right over here so it's flat, ma'am. Okay. No problem. You could stand right over there for me. Okay. Chad, do you mind standing? Just slide over this way. Do you mind handing the officer your phone? All right. So, what I want you to do is I want you to put your feet together and your hands down. Mine had foot surgery right there. Okay. Just put your feet together and your hands down at your side. Put your feet together, please. All right. Stay in that position. I'm going to explain some things to you, but you're going to stay in that position the whole time while I explain to you. Do you understand that? Yes, sir. Okay. So, what we're going to do is we're going to do the walk and turn test. I'm going to put you in the starting position for that test. I'm going to do that now. Okay. Why are you getting upset, ma'am? I feel scared. Okay. Don't be feel scared. You're safe, right? All right. I want you to put your right foot in front of your left foot. Can you do that for me now? I want your he Nope, ma'am. I didn't say to do any of that. Okay. Sorry. So, feet your foot together, hands down by at your side. I want you to put your right foot in front of your left foot, your heel touching your toe like this, and stay like that with your hands down at your side. Okay. You're going to stay in that position until I tell you to do so. Okay, ma'am. Okay. Right foot in front of your left foot, heel touching toe. Just like that. Stay there like that. Okay. Do you understand? Yes, I do. Okay. So, what I'm going to have you do is I'm going to have you take nine steps. Don't do anything until I tell you to do so. I'm going to have you take nine steps heel to toe. You're going to keep your hands down at your side. You're going to look down at your feet. You're going to count out loud. Okay? It's going to look like this. 1 2 3. You're going to go all the way to nine. You're going to leave your lead foot down. You're going to take short choppy steps turning around like this. And continue back. One. 2 3 all the way till 9. Do you understand that? Okay, you may begin. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Turn. 1 2 0 5 6 7 8 9 Okay, ma'am. We're going to do another test. Okay, put your feet together and your hands down at your side. All right, stay right there. Chad, come here for a second. You have your phone on you? Yeah. Can you just pull out the stopwatch? Guys, I'm a CPA on Wall Street. Okay, please. Like Okay, man. I'm not. Is there a reason? Is there a reason why you're telling me that? Because I feel like there's like this like negative view of me right now that's not Why would there be a negative view of you? Oh, I don't know. I don't know. Okay. So, the Thank you. So, I'm really super nervous. I've never had to do this in my full life. Okay, man. So, the next the next we're going to do is going to be the one leg stand. Okay, man. You're going to stay in that position. Do not do anything until I tell you to do so. Okay. Keep your feet together and your hands down at your side. Put your feet together and your hands down at your side. Okay. So, you're going to stay here. Stand by. We're running some tests right now. So, you're going to stay here. You're going to take a leg of your choosing, right or left. You're going to lift it up approximately 6 in off the floor. You're going to keep your leg completely straight, your foot parallel with the deck. You're going to look down at your foot and you're going to count out loud. 1,00 1 1,002 1,003. You're going to continue until I tell you to do so. Do you understand? Yes, sir. Okay. You may begin the test. Tell me 11. 100,00 1,0023. Ma'am, straight leg. That's fine. You're going to keep your legs straight. Sorry. 100,00200 34 100. Ma'am, leg straight and lower your foot to the deck. Six in. I'm sorry. What? The ground. The ground like this. Exactly like me. 1,001 100 1 2 3 1004 105 1006 1007 1008 1009 12 You can stop, man. Go ahead and take on the grass. You ready to get the reds, dummy? You ready? 101 red. Yeah. Yeah. I got up. She's speaking English. Yeah, she's speaking English. But I saw I'm like, "Where you from?" She's like, "Oldidge." I'm like, "Where you going?" She goes, "Oridge." I'm like, "That doesn't No, not right now. Is that what they're going to do?" Okay. So, do you want to rephrase? And when I ask you if it came from an accident at Sebrite, is that a yes or a no? I didn't convert any accident in anywhere whatsoever. You didn't hit anything in Trebright Highlands border right there. Not a single thing? No. Not to my knowledge. Oh, my neighbor is an [ __ ] He has like a U-Haul truck that he drives back and forth and he knocks [ __ ] off my car all the time. And you he's having what? The entire issue was I dumped the donut this morning. And you know what I'm saying? came clearly in here. Oh no, dude. I I looked at all this and I asked her like where you come from. She goes over and I went, "Where you at?" I go, "Okay, so where you come from?" Or like, "Okay, that doesn't No question. reservations. Um, I I wasn't ready to make reservations and I came back. I parked my car in the county to a stop in reference traffic And would you know what the county 101 New New Jersey reg uniform echo delta. Let me know what it comes back to and the RO please. Can I please have my phone? Uh, for what purpose? To call my son. Call your son. How old is your son? 15. Okay. Is there an adult with him right now? 2021 black lexer 301 Madison Gardens in Old Bridge. R O is a Elizabeth Antonazo. What is going on? Thank you. Nothing. Don't worry about it. I'll explain everything. Why my name? Cuz you're just letting me know who the car is registered to. Oh, just hold off on calling anyone. Can I please call my son? Is there an adult with him right now? I don't know. I don't know. You may have left your juvenile son unattended. No, no, no, no. He has a dad. I just wanted my phone. Jennings, are you calling her 15-year-old son? She says he doesn't know someone's babysitting right now. What is going on? I don't know what's going on. Okay. So, right. So, right now, there was an accident. Your vehicle is matching the exact description. So, that officer over there is on the phone with the town that you had the accident with. is is why you're probably crying right now cuz you didn't think we knew that. So, right now, we're do conducting our investigation to continue that. So, right now, we need to just say here, your 15-year-old son know we're not just going to ignore that you left him at home. He's able to take care of himself. No. So, why did you leave him at home? No. His dad isn't able to go pick him up eventually if I Okay, but I'm saying does he stay at home by himself? What is happening to me? Right. Well, right now we're still investigating, but I want to make sure your son's being taken care of. Does your son stay at home by himself? You said the field sobriety test. I'm not drunk. You did not do good on those field sobriety test, man. At all. What did I do wrong? Um, you had your arms out. You did an improper turn. You weren't counting. You didn't keep your legs straight. You lost your balance seven time uh several times. You couldn't stay in the starting position without losing your balance. So, what am I what is happening to me right now? So right now you are still being investigated. Like I told you, there is multiple towns involved in the incident that you did because you didn't do anything. You crashed your veh. It appears that this vehicle was involved in a crash in another town. We are doing that investigation right now to see if that is that. Okay. So those officers from that town are going to come here. I'm going to explain to them what I did the field sobriety test of and explain that you did not do well on those tests at all. I don't think I didn't do well. You did not do well at all. Get a foot surgery. I can't. Okay. Well, that will be documented in the report. Stay on my phone. No, please just stay on the phone. Ma'am, please just stay on the grass. What will happen to me? Like I said, the officer who's going to be in charge of these incidents is going to explain everything to you more. Okay. But from right now, from my knowledge, it seems like you're driving under the influence. Absolutely not the truth. Okay. Well, like I said, you did not do well on those tests. So, those tests are showing otherwise. Percentage shows if you get a certain amount of things wrong on the test that you're most likely intoxicated. Okay. Okay. And like I said, it doesn't help that we try to be honest with you and talk to you and Well, not until after we we pried your story apart. At first, at first it was you just went to the parking lot and then you decided not to go and then you were going to leave. Then all of a sudden, uh, everything seems like a little ridiculous. Not at all, man. Then then all of a sudden it changed into now you were with your friends having some drinks. Uh, but not too many drinks and you're tanning. So I'm at the beach for sure. Okay. How long at the beach for? Couple hours in Sebrite. Yeah. No, no, not in Sebrite. I'm so sorry. Not in Sebrite. By the ferry. By the ferry. [Music] How did it what happened to your tire? Um, so I hit a curve with something this morning. I think it got [ __ ] up from that. Yeah. And then it just got worse during the day. What happened to the rest of it? My neighbor has a U-Haul truck that he parked in and out of our lot like constantly and he hit my car. Did you follow that? No, I did not. We're friends. Old bridge. We're friends. I wouldn't do that. [Applause] Right now, just while we're doing our investigation, we're just keeping you on the grass for your safety because we're on a highway. We're going to conduct our investigation. Then when the next step comes from there, we'll explain everything to you. Take the uh 41. Okay. Just transfer all information to Okay, sure. Okay. Can I hear what's going on? Inside. No, he's going to meet us here. We just Okay. Our supervisor is coming right here. He's He'll explain everything to you. Okay. So, now what happens tonight? So, he's going to come here and he'll explain. Can I go get my tire fixed or Well, your vehicle. All right. So, most likely what's going to happen, ma'am, here, you're going to be placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. No way. Yes. No way. Yes, ma'am. I'm not. Can I rethink the sobriety test? Ma'am, like I said, my supervisor can I please test again? Ma'am, just you want to surgeon, please. Ma'am, please let me explain these things to you. You ask for an explanation, so I'm explaining to you. My supervisor is coming here. He will explain more details, but most likely from my test that I saw and the other officer observed, you're driving under the influence. So, this vehicle is going to be towed under John's law. You're not allowed to leave a vehicle of someone who is driving intoxicated on the side of the road. So, it's going to be towed from here. What does that mean? That it will be towed to a tow company. You'll be you'll be given the proper information of the tow company after all that. Okay. So, here's my supervisor. He's going to speak with them and then he'll come on over here. Okay. I literally had a foot surgery. Like literally. Okay, ma'am. Caught open foot. I'm sorry if I didn't do this the right way. Okay. I'm not a bad person. I I ma'am, I haven't called you a bad person yet once. I don't think that you're a bad person. I think you I think so. My car just like stays. No, your car will be towed from this location. I think you made a bad decision. You had too much strength today and you tried to drive. I think that's what happened. Okay. Uh he ran. Okay. My bad. All right. Thanks. Swap. You're going to eat. What is the story here? Uh the damage on We'll let you know. We'll keep you updated. Just like give me like a rundown from your perspective. Well, yeah. You're possibly intoxicated. You hit something. You're not really sure what you hit cuz your story isn't really consistent at all. Okay. All right. And we're being investigated with a possible crash related to Sebrite. Happened in Sebrite. Uh something similar about a black car missing a mirror hitting a bicyclist. So now what happens to my car? It's going to be towed. Two. Uh we'll give you a case number. Uh a business card with the lot information on it. It's the first car. Kill it. Kill your lights, please. How you doing, man? I'm sorry. Hey, do me a favor. Send the black pepper over his officers. Okay. I want you. All right. Can I take my shoes off? No. No. You don't listen. All you're doing, you're going to stand there and stare at me. Okay. Nope. Like a lot closer than that. Okay. Stay right there. Okay. Anything to drink tonight? I had a glass of wine about 6 hours ago. Okay. All right. Listen. Do you have any problems with your eyes? You wear glasses at all? It's where I have contacts and I wear glasses. Yes. Okay. All right. Do you need them to see? Do you need them to drive? Need them to see and drive, but I have contacts in right now. I'm good. Okay. Beautiful. You can see me, right? I can see you. You see the tip of this pen? Yes. Touch it. Right finger. Beautiful. Okay. So, listen. I'm going to hold this up. Okay. You're going to follow this pen with your eyes and your eyes only. Okay. You understand what I'm saying? Yes, sir. You're not going to move your head. Yes, sir. Keep your hands at your side. Yes, sir. Okay. Ready? Nope. Don't move your head. I know it looks like I'm joking, but I'm not. Don't move your head. It's very serious now. Okay, cool. Let's try it again. What's your name? Lizio. Elizabeth. All right, Liz, you understand what I'm saying, right? You're not going to move ahead. 36 following up at 25. Still got it. Still got it. Don't move your head. Ready? We're going up this time. All right, cool. All right. Well, listen. I don't know how big a glass of wine was, okay? You're not doing great with any of these tests. Okay? You're placed under arrest for DWI, driving under the influence, okay? I'm going to have you step back in your flip-flops. All right? I would wish that I would not be placing arrest for those because I'm not under the influence of like is there anything else I can say? Listen, here's what happened. All right. I'm going to tell you right now, you bomb my test. From what I understand before I got here, you didn't do too hot with the other test, too. Okay? So, we're going to take you in. We're going to process you. You will be put on a breather. Okay? You blow your breath. If it comes out below 08, hey, you were right. If it comes above 08, I was right. I'm going to put my paycheck that I'm right, but I'm going to gamble it with you. Okay. So, I'll meet you inside. We'll do it from there. Okay. Please put your hands behind your back. All right. Stay right there. Sir, do you have my cell phone? Did you search? I will get your cell phone. Do you have a purse or two? I do. Do you want us to take that? Yes, please. Okay. Is there anything else you need out of the car right now? My cell phone. Cell phone and purse. My ID and Yes. Okay. All right. Um, do you have anything on you, ma'am? I see there's not a lot of spots, but I got a lawyer. That's fine. I would have probably started that 5 minutes ago. It wouldn't have changed the outcome, but no. No. So, here's what happens, man. Okay. You do have to uh take the test. Okay? You did that part. You do have to do the breathalyzer test. Okay? You're going to go to court either way. That's when your boyfriend's going to come into play. Okay? So, everything you do after that, I just have my phone. Make sure I'm going to make sure with you. This officer and this officer going to escort you to the car. Okay. So, please turn around and go that way. Yes. And my cell phone. Cell phone and purse. Got it. I think wants for cell phone. I'm not sure for the crash. Okay. Um I need Sebrite to give me a call. Okay. You have my number, right? You do have my number. Yeah, I do. Okay. Have whatever the investigating officer is and then they're going to need to send somebody up here. Like we there's only so much [ __ ] we can do in a day. Yeah. Yeah, I get it. Okay. But obviously we need time to um get her in the breathalyzer. Let's do that. I'll call her. Give her your her your appointment. Yep. Yep. Where's Chad de Man Murphy?
