Did you or your girlfriend at some point realize that you were driving on the wrong side of the road? >> I kind of told her. >> You told her and she just didn't say anything. On January 28th, 2023, around 3:00 a.m., Officer Brian Matthews of the Rosel Park Police noticed something terrifying. A red Jeep Cherokee driving on the wrong side of the divided highway. The vehicle wasn't just going the wrong way. Its license plate wasn't even visible. When the officer activated his lights and siren, the Jeep didn't stop right away. It finally pulled into a BP gas station after several confused starts and stops. Behind the wheel was 24year-old Karina Herrera Perez, a nurse by profession, returning from a sports bar in Planefield with her friend Jennifer Asorio. As officer Matthews approached, the smell of alcohol filled the air. Karina's eyes were glassy, her speech was slurred, and she had no idea she'd been driving on the wrong side of the road. What happened next, the field tests, the arrest, and the breath test showing nearly 0.19% BAC, more than twice the legal limit, was all captured on the officer's body cam. How are you, miss? I'm officer Matthews Roso Park. Can I get your license, registration, insurance? >> All right. Do you realize what you were just doing? >> Kind of. >> Kind of. Okay. Can take your seat belt off.
