I believe the public enjoys the camera I think they like the camera it shows what we do so there's no secrets we're not hiding anything if they want to see it it's it's there to be seen I think it keeps the citizens honest as well you know it does make sure that officers are following the law and being professional in their duties I can't really see a downside when I'm out on patrol I'm always doing things to the best of my ability and I'm not ever trying to hide anything so I don't have any concern with my actions being automated recorded hi monster Kingery at the Bellingham Police Department the reason I pulled you over today is you actually have an out headlight okay uh do you have a driver's license registration proof of insurance yes okay I think overall people have been pretty receptive to it it's you know with the the current state of of what's going on in the country it's definitely gotten a lot of media attention uh people are noticing it especially when it's mounted to the glasses I don't think just the body cameras being noticed as much uh but definitely when it's mounted to a ball cap or glasses something like that I think it's very noticed when the camera comes back at the end of the shift the officers are required to plug it in to the system as you see behind me it will upload to what's called evidence.com at which time then the officers will go back and review their video and they'll what we call tag it they'll say what it is you know was it a crime is it needed for court is it just if it's just a citizen contact or a traffic stop where nothing happened after 90 days it will basically just delete if we're on the street or in the park there's a lesser expectation of privacy so we are allowed to film there and citizens realize it's just one tool that an officer has it may not pick up everything it's another tool but it's not necessarily like the human eye
