This encounter started when cops pulled up on a parked car in a public park and immediately started fishing claiming the couple was suspicious just for sitting there after dark without pointing to any actual law being broken. The officer pushed for ID and kept shifting his reasoning first calling it suspicious activity then suddenly trying to label it a traffic stop on a vehicle that wasn't even moving. That's when the man flipped it back on him questioning everything and forcing the officer to explain himself and it quickly turned into a situation where the cop started losing control of his own narrative. Watch how this officer talks himself into a corner and walks away with nothing. How's it going? Nothing going on. Not too much. What you got going on today? Nothing going on with you. Cool. Trying to trying to make sure everything's all right. You got your ID on you by chance? For what? Why I need my ID for? Cuz you're parked in a public park after dark. Public? Yeah. The officer came in with no clear legal basis and tried to stretch suspicious activity into a justification for demanding ID even going as far as calling a parked car a traffic stop which didn't apply in that situation. Without reasonable suspicion of a specific crime he had no grounds to detain them or require identification and turning a casual encounter into an investigative detention crossed the line. Suspicion alone isn't a crime and in most cases ID can't be demanded unless there's a lawful detention tied to a specific offense which he never established. Instead he kept pressing and contradicting himself until it was obvious he had nothing and that's why he ended up backing off with nothing to show for it.
