You're stopping me from what I'm doing. Because you're concerned? Because Yes. Did I commit a crime? I said I'm just doing a well-being check on you. Did I commit a traffic infraction? Nope. I'm just doing a well-being check. >> You're illegally detaining me on the side of the road, sir. I'm just doing a well-being check. I never said you're being detained or anything. Sir, I'm not detained. There's lights on behind me. You You pulled me over to the side of the road. How am I supposed to believe that I'm not being detained? You have me detained on the side of the road and you don't want to listen to me? Sergeant. In this video, the man was simply driving when a patrol car started following him closely, watching every move he made. And instead of leaving him alone, the officer suddenly pulled him over claiming it was just a well-being check. Even though nothing illegal had happened, the driver immediately pushed back, questioning how he could be stopped without committing any violation. And instead of giving a real answer, the officer kept repeating the same excuse while avoiding the actual legal standard. As things escalated, the driver didn't back off and made it clear he understood exactly what they were doing, forcing the situation into a corner the officers clearly weren't prepared for. Watch how this turns into a serious problem for them. Hey, how's it going, man? I'm Officer Balanza with the Violent Crimes Unit. What'd you pull me over for? For a well-being check. Well, I was just doing a well-being I'm not real concerned about your well-being check of me. You're pulling citizens over on the on the side of the road for for their well-being? Is that what I'm to understand? >> We can do that. We can do that. You can do that, huh? What kind of medical issue would somebody have pulling over on the side of the road? Like I said, if you pull over more than once, I was trying to make sure you were okay. I don't like to be followed by police. Okay. It's a public roadway. I'm allowed to follow you if I wanted to. I got They got a supervisor coming up here. Yeah, I'm good. All right, man, be safe. Uh How's it going, man? How do you think it's going? Uh Is this Sergeant still Sergeant Salmon? >> It is. Why are your officers pulling people over for for no crime? Okay, so he was conducting a well-being check on you. You were doing some concerning Concerning behaviors? Like like pulling to the side of the road safely in a safe manner? He said you pulled over several times. You were doing some concerning behaviors. You have me detained on the side of the road and you don't want to listen to me? Sergeant. I'm not being detained. I'm not being detained. I'm not being detained. He's not being detained. He pulled me over for my own well-being. Unbelievable. And then, I wouldn't stop talking. And And since I wouldn't stop talking, that enraged the sergeant and he could no longer listen to the person complaining. These All right, we're going to go to the PD. How about that? You guys want to go to the police department? We're going to go to the police department and we're going to complain about this. After they abandoned the stop and ran away like cowards, he didn't just brush it off or move on like most people would. He went straight to the department and made sure this stop didn't disappear. He filed a formal complaint, forcing them to answer for why he was pulled over with no crime, no violation, and no legal basis. That decision put real pressure on the department because now everything was on record, from the officer admitting it was just a well-being check to the supervisor refusing to address it. He didn't give them anything during the stop, and afterward he pushed it even further, turning their bad decision into something they actually had to deal with.
