Late in the night on April 7th, 2024, officers from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department in Tennessee patrolled Broadway, the infamous neon illuminated strip of live music bars. Without warning, a chair slammed onto the ground next to them, leaving the officers just feet from serious injury. They immediately turned their body cameras on and suspected the chair had plummeted from the sixth floor roof of Chief's bar, which was only open for its third night. >> Are you guys looking into it or was upstairs? >> Came off of Chief's here. Okay. >> That could have been bad. >> That was the rooftop. Yep. Uh, no. We saw the chair actually one of the girls saw the guy. >> Uh, no. He hit past the car. So, as far as I know, Yeah. nothing is there. >> Trying to get the guy down, but they might be trying to go up, too. >> Okay. Did they find him? >> Yeah, he's upstairs. >> Okay. I'm not pick up. >> You didn't throw nothing. You don't see anybody throw anything. You don't have witnesses. You're accusing. >> I get that, but you didn't throw nothing. You didn't throw nothing. I'm just bodyguard. I don't know what happened. >> I don't know. You don't know. Hold on. >> What about you? Okay. I didn't see him throwing nothing. We weren't doing nothing up there. He's got nothing on him. They didn't say nothing. He's being aggressive and so is that one's upstairs. >> Yep. If you can go check right here, we're not leaving yet. You're not free to go. >> We're investigating the situation. >> Watch him. I'll go camera. Let me have one of the supervisors respond. What's your name, man? I'm Morgan Wallen. >> Morgan Wallen. >> I'm Officer Trice. Metro Police. I'm recording my body camera. Officer Trice. Trice. Nice to meet you as well. >> Hey, nice to meet you, man. >> I don't really know a whole lot of celebrities and stuff. >> That's Morgan Wall. >> Okay. I was about to say, okay, >> that's Morgan Wallen. >> Okay. All right. >> And everybody was afraid to say that it was him. >> Okay. >> Because no one wanted to like >> Correct. Correct. Morgan Wallen is not just one of today's biggest country stars. As recent as October 2025, he's listed as the number one artist across all music genres according to the Billboard Hot 100, a title he first claimed back in 2021. >> I don't know a lot of celebrities. >> Where are we? And who is that guy? >> I just I just before I want to open my mouth, I just want to make sure it's Morgan Wallen. The guys are outside. He's got his bodyguards with him. Security staff. They're trying to pull up a video to see if it actually shows him doing it. But the witnesses that were up in the rooftop saw him chuck it. So that's why I'm asking for a supervisor. >> Hey boys, man tonight. Good. Hey, you got any Covenants? >> Yeah, I'll take that. Thank you, sir. We've not tried to cause no problems, man. I don't know what they're I don't know why. Well, a chair came flying off the roof and landed right next to my patrol car over there. We're just trying to figure out what happened. As you should know, are they all three? >> Where y'all boys from? >> Well, we all live here. Nashville area. >> Where you from originally, though? California. Why'd you move here? Moved here for a job. >> This is your bodyard. Are you >> I don't know, >> man. We're in the middle of some other [Music] >> Yeah. >> How's everything been going on here? Good so far. I'm going to get I'm going to get behind your body. Why is that? I'm just trying to talk to you. >> Well, the nature of our business, we usually don't like people getting behind us. >> Okay, like that. I I know. I'm just letting you know. That's That's why I've reacted the way I am. Yeah, we're still not like 50 minutes out. >> Oh, okay. Sorry. I don't know. >> Well, you got somewhere to be now. [Music] I was drink. >> Eric Church, another famous country artist, is also part owner of Chief's Bar. Chief is his nickname and the title of his most successful album. It is reportedly taken from his grandfather who was a police chief in Granite Falls, North Carolina. Ironically for this situation, the bar itself is a nod to the force. Country singer Morgan Wall trying to take me out. They're trying to take me to jail out of your box. They're trying to They won't let me leave. Would you guys possibly disconnect just because of who's upstairs? >> No, it's it's always going to be raining. Okay. >> We didn't even know he was up there to be honest. >> Okay. >> So, this is kind of weird that it's not >> Eric Church is on the phone. >> Hi, Eric. Talk to him. Uh, well, we're investigating something right now. That chair came off the roof of Farm. That's what we're getting to the bottom of right now. We're just investigating at this point. I know I didn't uh it's not really something that you do, right? So law enforcement got to treat it like we would with anybody else. Yes, sir. Appreciate it. Can we move down here a little bit in the alley? >> Yeah. >> I go back a little bit. The table's going to be correct. >> You need to keep moving along. >> Robert Street. Let's turn around. >> See y'all. Thank you. >> Sorry to cause problems. It's all good, man. I didn't mean to. I'm going too far. >> Is this Eric Church's car? >> Yeah. Okay. >> I was a little confused on why I was talking about investigation or I'm not sure the other officers inside reviewing security camera footage. So, >> I mean, someone threw a chair. >> Yeah. I believe this is more of your mom right here in the in the green. >> Now we have more person looks like him. Uh whoever is the guy with him identified himself as his bodyguard. So I don't know I >> don't know if they've told you already but this interaction is audio and video recorded. We just have to tell everybody >> I didn't see him do that with him a long time. I've never seen like that. Were you in the military? >> I was a Marine. >> Okay. I was too. I can jacket. >> Didn't recognize him. Did a little bit of something to your hair. >> Cut it off. >> Yeah. >> Where you from? >> I'm from here. >> Here. >> Yeah. About an hour south of here. Um Franklin County, Tennessee. >> Uh so security was telling us that it was uh Mr. Morgan Wallen over here. 22 camera footage to see if that was Sergeant Olive. Hey, Morton. Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you as well. You would give me a few seconds. I'm going to try and get a few things sorted out real quick. Okay. He's opening a bar right over there. Say who's opening a bar? Right over here. >> Though the bar just down the street isn't technically owned by Morgan, it uses his likeness to advertise. Morgan himself explains that here. >> My bar is going up down here. >> Yeah. Over there. All four. Yeah, it's almost 40,000 ft. >> The lot alone was expensive. Like $8 million. >> Yeah. Well, they just paid me for my name, you know. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> His actions from this incident, along with his use of a racial slur and other legal incidents we will cover later, led to a council vote denying the bar assigned displaying Morgan's name. >> Is that through a TC group? You know them? >> Yeah. Yeah, I know. I know some people say about them. >> Oh, they I think they have one of the best security groups that we got. Honestly, >> talking to my lawyer, I was like, "Hey, man. You saw that Riley guy? >> Oh, yeah. I was like, "Hey, we got to make sure that that does not happen at our bar." >> Morgan is almost certainly referring to Riley Strain, a 22-year-old who was out drinking with friends in Nashville when he was kicked out of a bar. He went missing and after a twoe search was ultimately found in the Cumberland River. His death was ruled an accident of intoxication and drowning. >> I'm going to get him to bring our own security in. He's taking care of me for years. What made you be a cop? >> It's always a passion m when they say it's calling. It's really a calling. That's the same thing I feel about music. >> Well, you're pretty good at it. >> Thank you. Oh, you should keep going. Guys been good to me. >> No, definitely. >> RB and then they both gave statements to the other officer, [Music] throw it overhead, and then laughing about it after. Yeah. >> Correct. Hold on. What team logo is that on your shirt? >> The Braves. That's their alternate. >> Oh, really? >> Yeah. Oh, >> who's your favorite team? >> Well, I don't really watch baseball, but it'd be it'd be Braves. >> Same. >> What kind of boots you got on? >> Double D Ranch. >> Nice. >> Some people from out of out of Florida. >> Okay. >> I'm not trying to cause no problems. >> No, I I got you, man. Honestly, I'm not 100% sure of what's going on. Just know something was thrown from the rooftop. Sergeant's investigating now. So, once we disprove it, we can get you out of here. I appreciate you being cool with us, man. >> Yes, sir. >> I appreciate you, man. >> On slowmo or >> No, it's just lagging. >> We just have Wi-Fi. >> How many guys you usually have with you at night? >> Two. Two. >> Those two guys right there. Have you met them? >> Oh, no. >> Hey, help. What's your name? >> Oh, officer Lopez. Lopez. Hey, Paul. >> This is a good dude right here, man. >> Awesome. I'll get that information. >> Yeah. And that's John. He's to take care of Obama, unfortunately. >> Blue shirt. >> Blue. >> Okay. That's a blue and white. There we go. >> Oh my god. >> Okay. >> Oh, there you go. Just chucked it. All right. We'll get that information to figure out as far as uh preserving that. >> Okay. Thank you. Absolutely. Thank you. >> Thanks, guys. >> The video was not released by MNPD and it is unclear if the department obtained it after this night. Reports indicate a bar manager refused to release the footage to news outlets at the time. Later on, an officer gives his insight to the footage. >> The video is a little glitchy, but you can see him launching from the area in an object flying. So, that's as good as it gets. >> That's where you're from. San Francisco. Yeah, that's why they got enough. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. This is a whole lot better. This is a pretty good place. I'm sorry to bring up the cold food. I am. I'm sorry. We're going to be all right. We don't feel better. I know. It's going to be all right. I know. I respect a lot about that. It's just about being for sure. >> All right, sir. Sergeant Mass Police Department let you know if there was any audio recording a chair to get lane to the traffic. All right. What happened? I have my wallet. these popsicl I'm going to back my car up so we can just try to get as little as people as possible. Nothing else I can do and I'll be happy to talk to you about it here in just a little bit. Your security. >> As a courtesy, officers back their cruiser into the alley to keep Morgan out of sight. >> Thank you so much. Will you turn on your frontacing flood lights? on my phone. I got his number. Yes, sir. Right here. Yeah. Down. There's nobody videoing this. He's >> on his way, Morgan. Okay. Okay. I'll meet you down there. >> Are you transporting, sir? >> Okay. You'll go ahead. We'll clear traffic. We can go and get you out of here and get him moving. >> This is his property. >> Okay. Appreciate it. >> Boy, I don't know. Mer I know that. I ain't done nothing wrong. >> You have his ID or info? >> I don't have his ID. the security guard. >> You have his ID on you? >> I do. [ __ ] have that place. >> What's his name? >> My birthday. >> Thanks, sir. >> Yes, sir. >> You taking it with you? >> Yeah. Yeah. It's going to go on the property. Security guy already had his wall and all that. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Anything specific that we need to know for a GCSO or is this booking you just a regular person bringing him in with everybody? >> Yeah. Mr. Wall, I'm going to try to get you out of here as quickly as possible so we don't draw a crowd. Booking's right down the road. Once we get there, I'll I'll handle your cuffs if you're all right with that. Okay, sir. >> All right. >> God damn it. I'm sorry. >> They don't like really. >> Let's go, man. >> I I don't know, man. >> Just get us out of here. >> All right. Just give me a minute once this car goes. >> They're all video me. >> If if you want to lean over, >> you want to try or just just look away. What am I supposed to do? >> All right, we're going. We're going. Give me one minute. >> I got a little boy. Is this going to affect my custody battle? >> I don't think so. >> But I I >> I really >> I really wouldn't be able to tell you, man. >> Trying to make that not matter. >> All right. >> That's my boy. He's with his mama right now or I wouldn't be here. I appreciate you respecting me. >> Yeah, man. >> My wrist, though. >> So, bookings about four blocks away. >> What's your middle name? You're definitely in my system. I don't know what for, but you're in there. >> Reports indicate Morgan has been arrested multiple times in Nashville. In 2016, he was arrested for driving under the influence. Those records have been expuned. In May of 2020, during the height of CO, he was arrested for disorderly conduct outside of Kid Rock's honky tonk after allegedly harassing patrons, refusing to obey commands by police officers, and reportedly kicking glass objects. That case was dismissed. You'll >> be okay. >> I'm going to root for you, brother. >> I appreciate it, man. Am I your first arrest tonight? >> Yes, sir. >> The first arrest you to make tonight. >> Definitely not, man. Definitely not. >> This is me and Thomas Rick. Turn it up. That's me and TR. >> You can send me a call. I'll do what you needed. >> That's me right there. >> Me and TR. >> I'll tell you something funny that every song that you hear is going to be you cuz I had a playlist going. >> TR is one of the best. He's one of the best dudes in the world. He would definitely not be getting arrested if he turned. >> You got to walk me in there. >> Yeah. >> Walk slow. >> We're trying to get it situated with booking so that we can try to get you somewhere where you're not in the public eye. >> Lopez, who you think is your favorite country music singer of all time? >> You got five picks. >> Oh, >> I'll tell you. >> Go ahead with yours. >> Take my number one. >> Who's that? >> Okay. There's yours. >> Top three of right now. Okay. >> You're honestly one of them. >> Um, Zack Bryan >> and then I will. >> And then, uh, he listen. >> Josh Turner. I've been listening to a lot of Josh Turner here lately. >> I used to listen to him when I was seven. Do you love Josh Turner? >> Oh, yeah. >> Please do not play Chris Young. >> Oh, hell no. Arty or >> I do like Arty. >> Me too, man. That's my dog. Don't hurt my wrist though. >> All right. >> I ain't going to prank. >> Step out. No. >> If you want to face your wrist inward maybe a little bit more comfortable. So like like that. >> Uh do it the other way cuz they'll start ripping this way. So face them like this. Like this. Like this one. >> Okay. >> So butterflying. >> Can you let it go? >> Yeah. right here. Just just put your hand again. >> Yep. Like this. So if you put your hand back, >> it's a pump to palm. Just like this. >> So don't twist your wrist. The more you twist them, the more it's going to dig in. >> I wasn't even trying to. >> No, I know. I'm just letting you know that usually that's that's what happens. >> So if you want to sit in, don't sit on your wrist. If you do push up against it, we'll just put you so that way nobody else is watching or anything like that. So, we'll we'll try to minimize the exposure as much as we can. >> Yeah. So, if you want to slide back in, you don't have to sit straight in. Just slide back. >> I got to pee. >> Uh, give me just a sec. I'll let you know in a sec. So, just slide all the way back as far as you can so you're not sitting on your wrist and then just hang tight. There you go. >> And you say you have been arrested here before. >> There's your picture if you want to see >> last time. Do I got to take another picture? >> Yeah, they'll probably take an updated picture of it. >> Sure. >> I got my hair looking decent. >> I'll try to. You have to ask the DCSO guys. I actually do try to help you out. Maybe the first arrest at Chief's. >> You good? >> I've only done one of these, honestly. You want to hop in? >> Sure. >> I'm going to take him and let him use the restroom. >> Oh, okay. >> If you want to, Mike, >> he'll he'll let you out to go use the restroom. >> I'm just saying hello. >> Oh, yeah. >> How are you? >> Yeah, I'm not bad. >> What I'm going to do is I'm going to take these handcuffs off of you. You been cool with me. Tracy right here. Put him in the front. >> What? >> You don't mess with your hair. >> Yeah. >> And then uh >> just bring it back to me when you're done. >> All right. >> I'll put it with your property. >> Hey, what's up? >> Oh, we'll take another seat. Just enough time for us to get this done. >> All right. Whenever you're ready, we'll try to see if make sure there's no kind of nobody else to limit the amount of exposure and then we'll just bring it in. >> Yeah, I'll just go ahead and put a brief synopsis. >> Thank you. >> Sure. >> I'm good. >> I'mma smile this time, too. Did I smile? I'm a lot happier than I was then. I used to be mad. I'm not no more. You ever been mad? >> Oh, yeah. >> At the world. >> Yes, sir. >> Me, too. >> I think it happens to everybody. >> I'm not anymore. I went to church for fourth time in a row today. >> What >> is it likeliness to recommit? >> Oh, reasonable likelihood fence will continue. Uh, just for the the paperwork. >> Yeah, >> I believe that. >> Gotcha. >> I don't think it's likely. >> Build it disorderly, one reckless, and then add two more. >> Add two more. >> Two more. Yeah. >> Two more. >> Total of four charges going to be on it. Really? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Me, trees, unoccupied lane. That's how it looks. I want it in the um the disorder. >> All righty. >> I just go with the >> Really? >> Yeah. All right. I'll tell you what's going on, man. I wasn't there. I didn't I didn't witness it. >> I didn't witness anything as of right now. That's what they're telling us. >> No, I read all the I read back and they were >> I don't think you did. You just booked me. >> Yeah. Once I finish this, man, I I can take you. >> I have no intent in my heart to do nothing wrong. >> Um, >> what are they talking about? Because >> you see me being aggressive like that. >> Well, I'll be straight up with you. That's >> Don't answer that. You do your job. Do your job. I'll take my point. I shouldn't have done that. >> I'll read you the narrative once I get done. >> I don't want to hear it all. Give me the cliff nut. Is it the truth? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Are you sure? >> Yep. >> There's no aggressive though in there, is there? >> No. No. No. Nothing aggressive. So, you're getting disorderly conduct as it created a hazardous condition. So, where it landed, you're getting two counts of reckless endangerment for both the officers and then one for the general public. >> I'm not sure that's true, but Okay. Why is everybody coming to check up on that on that? the way it goes. So, it's all it's all linked >> because it's a person important and they were on >> think I'm important. >> So, they uh they were they were on this >> they got someone in there right now. So, to minimalize the amount of people that you interact with, try to get them through. >> Can I go again then? >> Yeah. >> Who's in there? Somebody worse than me? >> Honestly, I couldn't tell you now. >> I have no idea. You good, boss? >> Yeah. >> All right. >> Try to wipe my hands off. I ain't got no paper here. >> I'll throw these back on you. >> You going to walk me in? >> Yeah. We're going to go through here. >> Yeah. >> I'll give it to him. >> Yeah. He doesn't want it on. >> I figured they didn't want it on my in my mug shot, right? >> Yeah. They'll let you. Will they let me work? >> Yeah. All right. If they will not work for my brain >> before we go in, you got anything on you? >> No. >> You already got my knife off of me, right? >> Yeah. Okay. Let me try. >> Let's just let me try. >> Yeah. Oh my god. [Music] take your temperature real quick. >> Yeah, I see it. >> Do you remember when you were here last? I was the nurse. I saw you over YouTube. >> I remember. >> Okay. So, we were at HC. There was a little tiny hole where we had to talk to each other through you. Stuck your whole face in it and I was poking you in the forehead. I said, "Get back. You're drunk." You remember that? Do you remember that? Oh my god. Oh my god. Yeah. So, and the funniest part was I didn't even know who you were. Everybody else did. So, that made it even funnier because I kept with your haircut and I said, >> "Oh, yeah." I said I picked up my cousin. >> I said the '90s called. They wanted my cousin next day. You were like, "Is that your boy right there?" He's like, "Yeah, that's my you so hard and I didn't even know who you were." >> Have fun. >> A $15,250 bond was set and reports indicate Morgan was released from jail roughly 3 hours later. He was charged with three felony counts of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. Tennessee law list class Eye felony sentences at a minimum of one year in prison. Serious charges that could heavily affect his music career. Eight months later, in December of 2024, Morgan made a plea deal and was found guilty on what appears to be two reduced misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment. All other charges were dropped. He was ordered to spend 7 days at a DUI education center and was given 2 years of probation. His fines amounted to $350 plus court fees. When his sentence is complete, his charges are set to be expuned from the record. Shortly after his plea agreement, the Nashville Metro Council approved his bar's sign proposal, adding to the list of neon signs that illuminate the strip. Since this incident, Morgan has stayed out of legal trouble. Assuming his probation began at sentencing, it will end in December of 2026.
