so here's what I was talking about yeah you want to make sure there's no Gap here where they can access the latch right okay look at your door opens in that's good it's actually yeah sometimes you'll see these will be a little worn out and then you can put something in there and open it okay sounds good yeah and so with the you just want to make sure that if you don't have a dead bull I can't just do that but even then the latch on a regular lock is not as substantial as the deadbolt latch right some other things dude obviously watch your screens yeah if your screens are off someone's gonna mess with it if you don't trust these little locks because they're not much to them a little plastic deals put a stick in there put a dowel okay okay same as you do like a sliding window right you can just put it on the top just find something that fits um that way someone can't open it I know it's tough this time of year when it's hot right right and you know open windows at night and that kind of stuff these should I don't see a stop some of these have like a stop where they can go up just a crack and then they'll latch again I don't see one in these unfortunately um because that would be the other good thing is to have catch on there so it's not um my sister uh sent me a link to something on Amazon it's like a fake alarm system somehow if like Windows get open or it gets triggered or something it just lets it like it lets off well there's an alarm for us to hear inside yeah so that's a legit alarm yeah but it's just us well it's not um monitored there's a big difference yeah you'll hear people say monitored alarm versus non-monitor monitored means that there's a Dispatch Center gets that alarm and then they call the cops okay a non-monitor just means that it's gonna alert you um but there's not going to call 9-1-1 right right um but this is what I was talking about too is like if you just a like a USB uh camera a little little tiny Wi-Fi camera yes fit right here and anybody that comes up this he's gonna get caught right because you're not jumping up that way yeah yeah right so unless they somehow scale over the roof and right you see everybody coming and going or even over here to put it in the corner of that window facing this way anybody that comes up to your door you'll see other option you have to talk to your landlord is like a doorbell alarm right I'm sorry we didn't know if that was yours or not how are you good how are you good so my daughter's in college so that's kind of the thing I get where you guys could be a little freaked out so um yeah I don't mind helping you guys try to figure out some things um but a like a ring doorbell alarm yeah if they'll let you put one on there you can do that same thing it'll get motion okay um and then it wouldn't uh I mean you also see you be able to talk to people if they push it so I mean that works too good I told my parents I was feeling unsafe and I'm pretty sure they're willing to buy me some sort of system so yeah and like I said you don't you don't need a full-on system um most of it is just kind of knowing who's coming and going right so just being able to see um someone coming up to your door is helpful right yeah um makes it easier to identify people but um leave your lights on that's a that's a big thing most people don't because they don't want to spend the money the uh you know those fluorescent or even the LED lights now that I use so a little electricity you can leave them on all the time probably not notice any difference in your house no but I mean if you can't if you can't remember to turn it on at night or you come back late where it's going to be you can do that um other thing you can do I mean it's tough with some of these um rentals is that they actually make ones that come on automatically at night okay so I want to talk to your landlord and see if they can just get a porch light that has a photo cell so they pop on automatically at night turn you just have to leave the switch on and then it'll turn on and off on its own yeah um stuff like that are always good especially you got a hidden access um there's not a lot of you know I mean it's pretty other than your neighbors it's pretty guarded yes it is nice and separated that's why yeah I wasn't too worried about ever someone trying to break in that's why well it's it's a bonus and a and a negative so where we really have problems with break-ins is uh breaks right and see so no one we could driving around we're not going to see the door or window like these so that's usually where people end up getting into places is while we're gone Well everybody's gone and then we don't hear about it until everybody comes back and to break right and so secluded doors like this can be a uh a place of Entry but that's where that rainbow you know like a door alarm like that would work well because you guys would see it even if you're not here you'd get an alert yeah yeah be able to talk to someone I wouldn't necessarily know yeah our roommates it's pretty brave and she like yeah I felt safer knowing that because he quickly walked off after that and I'm hoping he'd feel scared and won't come back well most most people stealing stuff don't want to be caught yeah and they don't want people to know their face so in most cases they're going to take off now the odd cases where they wouldn't would be some drunk guy who's being confrontational yeah yeah and then he's probably just lost not necessarily trying to do anything bad I mean it might be coming back here to pee who knows just what's kind of weird yeah it kind of creeped us out but yeah idling yeah left on like he wasn't trying to pretend that obviously but yeah we'll definitely get some sort of yeah like I said I think the cheap little Wi-Fi cameras that you back up to your computer aren't that expensive um be a good way to go yeah or if your landlord doesn't care wiring something into the doorbell would be probably the best case you know if there's a way to install deadbolts in a door that people can just do at home um most of these doors they're solid wood through here and so all it takes is um there's a little template you got so you get the right depth right and then you just a big hole saw cuts a hole through it okay and then you mount it in there it's not real hard I mean it'd be then you gotta obviously cut the other end yeah um this one's the thing to watch or something like this is that either means that it was reinforced because it was broken which there's a crack there so it probably was at some point um so it may already be a little compromised um but if they use long enough screws to get past where it was cracked that's probably pretty good okay but um yeah putting a deadbolt in isn't isn't crazy you can get a handyman and do it in this or locksmith do it in an hour so yeah so in general one of the things that drives me nuts about kids up here is there's no porch lights on there you're like oh we need more street lights well the street lights are above most of the trees so that doesn't help but if people just leave their porch lights on it's yeah it changes changes everything there's so much more like yeah as long as though if they're paying for that and the switch is downstairs make sure they're leaving the switch on it's actually oh it's on yours oh excellent well no it has a photo cell too so that at the top that's the little light sensor okay this little circle thing right here okay so does that mean that one when someone passes it it comes on and stays on kind of thing so that means it'll come on at night so just leave the switch on all the time that's what basically what I was talking about with this one you can see that one's on all the time if you had one like that that was photosensitive it would only turn on at night sounds good so if you leave that on the other thing too is those CFLs those fluorescent ones aren't nearly as efficient as the um LED ones okay so if you get an LED one from Walmart or something it'd probably yeah take a less power even you just leave it on all the time yeah [Laughter] yeah there's I mean there's plenty of look online like I said Amazon you'd probably find a reasonable Wi-Fi camera that you can just sit in the window the only difficult problem with that is um and that's why I say the doorbell one would be nicer is if it fogs up yeah you're not gonna see anything yeah and you don't want it out here because most of them are waterproof so sounds good so that's the the big difference okay okay and there might be a way to put it up there and keep the put a film on there and keep the fog from being an issue I don't know but if you keep it hot inside and it's once it gets cold out here it's gonna fog okay yeah well thank you so much they also make uh those ring ones that wire into they make some now it's our ring I don't know I said it but it's a it replaces a bulb I don't know how far down they look yeah but usually screw it into the bulb and you can actually control where it looks too see you guys you're welcome
