Hello, my name is Agent Matthew Longshaw and I'm a public information officer for the Aurora Police Department. This critical incident briefing will provide you with information about an officer involved shooting that occurred on Thursday, September 18th, 2025 in the city of Aurora. As part of our commitment to the community, you're about to hear both 911 and dispatch audio and see video footage so you have a better understanding of what occurred based on the information we know right now. A word of caution. What you're about to see may be disturbing and difficult to watch. Strong language may be used. Viewer discretion is advised. At 7:33 p.m. Thursday, September 18th, Aurora 911 was contacted by a suspect calling from a business located at 290 South of Anna Street. The suspect told Aurora 911 that he was armed with a 9mm handgun and was going to open fire inside the business as well as shoot at the police. The suspect told Aurora 911 the firearm was concealed in a pocket before hanging up at 7:38 p.m. The Aurora 911 call taker calls the number back, which was then answered by the employee of the business. The employee told dispatchers the suspect left the store and was now standing outside. Here are portions of those 911 calls. >> Tell me exactly what happened. >> Uh, I'm actually in here with a 9mm pistol. I'm about to shoot the place up and uh the cops need to come here right away. >> Okay. So, can I I have you exit the uh building? >> Uh no, I'm going to stay in here. That's >> okay. Is there a reason why you want to do this? >> Honestly, I'm waiting for the cops to show up so I can just shoot that. >> Was Was there anything that led you to this place today? Anything going on? No, not really. I'm just uh tired of the cops. >> Okay. Well, where's the gun right now? >> Uh in my left pocket. >> Your left pocket? >> Inside my sweatshirt. >> Inside your sweatshirt. Okay. Thank you. Have you approached anybody in the store at all? >> Uh just asked for the address and a phone. That's about it. >> Okay. Okay. And I'm sorry. What What kind of gun did you have again? Was that a 45? You said >> a 9 mm. >> 9 mm. Okay. Is the gun loaded? >> Yes, >> it is. Okay. Were any shots fired? >> No, not yet. >> Three officers arrived at the scene and located the suspect near the gas pumps. Officers announced their presence and ordered the suspect to show his hands. The suspect ignored the officer's commands and began walking towards the officers with his hands in his pockets. One officer discharged four 40mm lesslethal rounds, striking the suspect numerous times, which had no effect. The three officers repositioned around the corner of the business to provide themselves distance and cover. The suspect then chases the officers around the corner with one hand still concealed. One officer discharged his firearm, fatally striking the suspect. Officers performed life-saving actions on the suspect until medical responders arrived at the scene. The suspect was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries. Here's body cam video from the involved officer. Again, this footage may be difficult to watch and may contain strong language >> on the northwest corner. >> Ready? I'll do commands on you. >> Y >> Hey, hands. Hands. >> See your hands. >> Show us your hands. Now, >> let me see your hands. your hands. >> The suspect has since been identified by the Arapjo County Coroner's Office as a 17-year-old male.
