Hello, I'm Riverside County Sheriff Chad Biano. This critical incident message is regarding a deputy involved shooting that occurred on Tuesday, June 11th, 2024 in the 1000 block of West 6th Street in the city of Corona. When we have a critical incident, we want to share as much information as possible as soon as the investigation allows. On June 11th at 1:10 a.m., a deputy assigned to the Lake Matthews Sheriff's Station was in the 1000 block of West 6th Street in Corona when he saw two subjects, a male and a female, displaying unusual behavior. The deputy stopped to investigate and while speaking with them, they took off running. The deputy gave chase and followed them behind a building where both suspects were waiting and the male suspect attacked him. While the deputy was engaged in a struggle with the male, the suspect repeatedly instructed the female to kill the deputy. The female joined in assaulting the deputy and a deputy involved shooting occurred. The female suspect was struck by gunfire. The male attempted to take the deputy's firearm and the fight continued until good Samaritans arrived and assisted in detaining the suspect. Medical aid was rendered to the female until paramedics arrived. She was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. As a warning, some viewers may find this video disturbing and it is not suitable for children. We will now show you surveillance video from a local business. The female suspect was identified as Jennifer Rose Dobbins, a 30-year-old resident of Imperial Beach. When we have a deputy involved shooting, multiple investigations are automatically launched. The California Department of Justice will lead this investigation, aided by the Riverside County Sheriff's Force Investigations detail. This combined investigation will examine Nurani and Dobin's actions, the initial contact, and the deputy involved shooting. This is an active and ongoing investigation. This incident will ultimately be reviewed by the California Department of Justice and the California Attorney General's Office. Additionally, our department will internally review and evaluate the actions of our deputy with our policy and training standards. We take each use of force very seriously and make every effort to deescalate these situations whenever possible. I want to express my gratitude to the brave Samaritans who stepped in to assist our deputy. Their selfless act made a significant difference in the outcome of this incident.
