I'm Brooke Reese with the Metro Nashville Police Department. This is a critical incident briefing concerning Monday morning's exchange of gunfire between a wanted man and two central precinct officers on the Division Street Bridge. The suspect was killed. One of the officers was grazed in the leg by one of his bullets. Officers had been on the lookout for 29-year-old Teddarius Hunt since late Sunday after he was identified as the person who shot and wounded an employee of the Nashville Rescue Mission outside the front doors of the Lefayet Street facility earlier in the day. Hunt was named in an attempted murder warrant. Officers considered him to be armed and dangerous. Just after 11:00 a.m. Monday, Officer Jiren Bree, a 13-year MNPD veteran, spotted Hunt on Division Street near 8th Avenue. Hey, buddy. Come here. Come here. [Music] Hey, let me see your hands. [Music] Officer Clayton Lewis, a 9-year MNPD veteran, drove from the opposite side of the bridge to back up Officer Breeze. Bree, I'm coming across the bridge on the vision now. Where you need me? Better stop. You better stop. Stop. Stop. Shots fired. Shots fired. Are you hit? Yeah. Are you I think I got hit in the leg. Something hit me in the leg. Officer Lewis suffered a graze wound to his left leg. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment and has been discharged. Tarius Hunt was also rushed to Vanderbilt where he died. His 9mm pistol was recovered at the scene. In the coming days, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Davidson County District Attorney's Office will continue to investigate and analyze this incident. By policy, the MNPD will also be conducting an administrative review of this interaction you have just seen to ensure that it meets the high standards expected of our officers. Thank you for watching this critical incident video.
