This critical incident briefing is intended to provide you with information about an officer involved shooting that occurred in Houston on July 17th, 2025. HPD conducts thorough investigations into officer involved shootings. These typically require investigators to interview multiple witnesses, view numerous hours of video footage, and analyze a significant amount of forensic evidence. It is important to note that we are in the very early stages of the investigation. And we continue to review additional evidence as it is collected and analyzed. On July 17th at approximately 11:35 p.m., two Houston police sergeants responded to a call for service regarding a suspicious person with a weapon. The sergeants located an individual matching the reported description walking in the roadway at the 10500 block of Macau Road. As the sergeants exited their patrol vehicle, they gave commands for him to put his hands in the air. The individual opened fire, striking one of the sergeants. The sergeants returned fire, striking the individual who was later identified as Bobby Jose Alvarado. Other responding units arrived on scene and rendered aid to the injured sergeant and Mr. Alvarado. Both were transported to area hospitals in stable condition. 2337 in the air.
