On July 20th, 2025, at approximately 1:54 p.m., North Las Vegas police officers were dispatched to the Maverick gas station at 5450 East Tropical Parkway after receiving reports of a suspicious vehicle parked at one of the pumps. Callers indicated the vehicle was occupied by two adults, three children, and a dog, and expressed concern that one or both of the adults appeared to be passed out or under the influence. When officers arrived, they located a black Honda Accord with Arizona license plates parked at the gas pumps. Officers approached the vehicle and Officer Vardullis made contact with an adult male, later identified as 31-year-old Oftton Green, who was outside of the driver's side door. Officer Vardullis spoke with Green for several minutes when Green suddenly entered the vehicle and attempted to drive away. Officer Vardullis tried to intervene, but the vehicle accelerated in an attempt to flee. and one of the children fell from the vehicle, sustaining a minor injury. The second responding officer quickly ran to the injured child and moved her to safety. The female passenger, later identified as Crystal Levit, exited the vehicle to grab the child, who had fallen, but turned and returned to the vehicle when she saw officers attending to the child. Levit was detained before she could reenter the vehicle, and Green drove away. Officers initially believed Green had left the area. However, he circled the parking lot and drove back towards them at a high rate of speed. Green nearly struck the second officer responding who was standing with Levit and the child. The suspect vehicle then accelerated and swerved towards Officer Vardulus. In response to the immediate threat, Officer Vardulus discharged five rounds from his departmentisssued firearm, striking the vehicle. Green was struck in the torso. The vehicle continued forward, hitting officer Vardulus in the leg and then fled the the lot. The first video you are going to see is from officer Vardulus's body warn camera. >> So all I need you to do can you can you give him your info so he can see you have a valid license and I can leave. >> Is that fine? Officers ran to the vehicle and gave commands to Green who exited through the passenger side. He was taken into custody and transported to UMC trauma center with multiple gunshot wounds. He survived and was placed under arrest in absentia. While officers secured the scene, the second responding officer located and removed the two remaining children from the back seat and carried them to safety. All three children and the adult female passenger were transported to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation. One of the children sustained a facial abrasion after falling from the moving vehicle. The other two children were not physically injured. Officer Bradullis sustained minor injuries to his leg. As the investigation progressed and evidence was collected from the vehicle, officers discovered heroin, methamphetamine, and a firearm. The investigation remains active and ongoing. The officer who discharged his firearm, Officer Vardulis, has been with the North Las Vegas Police Department since 2020. Preliminary details indicate Officer Verdullis fired five rounds from his departmentisssued handgun during the encounter. In accordance with department policy, he has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The investigation determined that multiple exits from the gas station were available, but Green chose to return and drive towards officers and civilians. Based on his actions, Green was charged with two counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon and three counts of child abuse or neglect. Additional charges are pending. Crystal Levit was also arrested and charged with five counts of child abuse after admitting that neither she nor Green were fit to care for the children and acknowledging the presence of drugs and the firearm inside the vehicle. Neither adult had legal custody of the three children. Child protective services took custody of them and confirmed their legal guardian is a maternal relative. Green and Levit both have extensive criminal histories involving drug offenses, assault, and weapon related charges. This concludes the critical incident briefing for the officer involved shooting that occurred on July 20th, 2025. This was the second officer involved shooting in North Las Vegas this year. The investigation remains active and detectives will continue to review all evidence related to the incident.
