My name is Amy Pck and I am the chief of police of the Myrtle Beach Police Department. We're providing an update regarding the officer involved shooting on April 26, 2025 along Ocean Boulevard. We provide this update as part of our commitment to transparency and we thank our community for their patience as we gather the facts about this complex case. This involved several events leading up to the officer involved shooting and after. Following the MBPD policy, the MBPD requested an independent investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division known as SLED into the officer involved shooting. It's important to note that this investigation is ongoing. This case is not closed. No conclusions are drawn from this update. Some of the information we're about to share is limited due to juveniles being involved. We will go over dash cam video of the April 26 Ocean Boulevard shooting. But first, we want to tell you about events that occurred involving juveniles from Marorrow and Scotland counties that we believe are all related to the officer involved shooting. First, September 6, 2024, Marorrow County High School and Scotland High School football teams play each other in Scotland County. A heated exchange takes place between the two teams. In between September 6, 2024 and April 25th, 2025, several other ongoing disputes between these groups of young people from Bennettville and Laurenburgg have taken place. These include verbal and physical altercations. Agencies in these areas are currently investigating these instances. April 25th, 2025, a group of young people from Marboral County get into an argument on Ocean Boulevard. It is deescalated by Myrtle Beach police officers nearby. April 26th at 2:53 a.m. a group of young people from Marorrow County are at the Fifth Avenue North Beach Access when they spot another group from Laurenburgg. An exchange of gunfire occurs. Damage to a hotel sliding door is reported to responding officers and bullet casings are found. April 26 at 11:49 p.m. the officer involved shooting in the 900 block of North Ocean Boulevard takes place. Now, we're going to show you the dash cam video from a Myrtle Beach police patrol car that was parked in the middle of Ocean Boulevard when the incident happened. This video is the clearest view we have. First, we'll play the video in its entirety. Then I'll walk you through what takes place. What you're about to see is disturbing. Viewer discretion is advised. Take a look at the far right of your screen. You'll notice the suspect walking into view. The suspect then pauses, bends down, stands up, pulls a gun, pointing his weapon at a crowd of people on the sidewalk, and he fires four rounds. Just 1.2 Two seconds later, a Myrtle Beach police officer exiting a business returns five rounds at the active shooter, hitting and killing the suspect, 18-year-old Jarius Davis from Marble County. In this video, you will hear one extra shot right after the officer's fifth shot was fired. SLED is working to determine where that shot came from. In this sequence of events, 11 people received gunshot related injuries, which can include bullet wounds and shrapnel grazes. Police officers and EMS immediately provided medical aid to those hurt. Four people were taken by ambulance to the hospital and seven self-reported to the hospital for treatment. One was in critical condition. All have since been released from the hospital. The victim's ages range from 13 to 43. The Myrtle Beach police officer who returned fire is patrol officer first class Brandon Oor. He is back to work on paid administrative duty as the sled investigation into this officer involved shooting continues. The other two officers who witnessed the shooting are Muhammad Elhawi and Jeremiah Johnson. Per department policy, both were on paid administrative leave but have since returned to work full duty. Brandon Oor is a seven and a halfyear veteran of the Myrtle Beach Police Department. Muhammad Elhawi has been with MBPD for over two years and Jeremiah Johnson has been with MBPD for four years. Continuing with the timeline, also on April 26 at 11:49 p.m., one block away from the officer involved shooting on Ocean Boulevard near 8th Avenue North, an 18-year-old fires his weapon. In the same dash cam video, you can hear these three shots shortly after the officer involved shooting. May 4th at 4:14 a.m. in Laurenburgg. Teenagers are at a postp prom house party. A drive-by shooting occurs, leaving two injured. All these events are related involving groups who know of each other in partnership with the Marble County Sheriff's Office, Scotland County Sheriff's Office, Bennettville's Police Department, Laurenburgg Police Department, and the CLIO Police Department. We have arrested two juveniles and one 18-year-old so far in connection with the events explained that occurred in Myrtle Beach before and after the officer involved shooting. Because they are minors, we cannot release any information about the juveniles we've arrested in connection with the shots being fired near the 500 block of North Ocean Boulevard. 18-year-old Jaw Warren Beth from Laurenberg has been arrested on gun charges in relation to the shots fired immediately after the officer involved shooting. We're not done yet. Because of the dedication of the Myrtle Beach Police Department and our partners in the PD and North Carolina, if you have committed a crime in Myrtle Beach or plan to, we will hold you accountable. This includes juveniles who unlawfully bring firearms to our community. Parents and guardians have a duty to know where their children are, who they are with, and what they are doing. Accountability starts at home. SLED will continue to do its investigation and release their findings upon its completion. The Myrtle Beach Police Department with our partners will continue to investigate all of these cases and hold those accountable for their actions. If you know anything about any of these incidents, please contact the Myrtle Beach Police Department at 843 9181382. Thank you.
