I'm Assistant Chief Patricia Kantu of the Houston Police Department. On October 16, 2025, at approximately 2:10 a.m., Houston police officers were conducting a traffic stop in the 6600 block of Harvin Drive. They heard an unrelated disturbance in a nearby alleyway. As officers continued with the traffic stop, they heard gunfire from the location of the disturbance. They witnessed a male discharging a firearm at three individuals. One officer discharged his duty weapon and the suspect, Ronnie De Mitchell, fled the scene, leading police on a brief foot chase before he was taken into custody. Officers located three individuals with gunshot wounds near the location of the shooting. HFD paramedics arrived and transported the three to an area hospital where one victim was later pronounced deceased. The other two victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
