The following is a summary of information investigators gathered from witness statements, dispatch 911 audio, bodywn cameras, and computer aided dispatch entries. At approximately 7:06 p.m., the first deputy arrived on scene and approached the residence. As the deputy walked toward the residence, the suspect, later identified as Abel Valencia, exited the front door wearing a mask and armed with the handgun. Valencia pointed the gun at the deputy and a lethal force encounter occurred. While continuing to hold a handgun, Valencia ran toward the deputy and chased the deputy around a vehicle parked in front of the location. The deputy fired several more rounds while maintaining cover behind the vehicle and eventually Valencia fell to the ground. The following is bodywn camera footage from the first responding deputy. Well, that's Hey, come out with your hands up. Come out with your hands up. Back to 24. I got subjects with mask in the house while peeking out the door. I'll be waiting for units. At approximately 7:10 p.m., a second deputy arrived on scene during the altercation and gave commands for Valencia to drop the gun. Valencia did not comply and a lethal force encounter occurred. The following is bodywn camera footage from the second responding deputy. Suspect down. Suspect is down. [Music] I'm moving. 1497. 1497 97. Drop the gun. [Music] Show me your hands, Hawkins. Stand behind that car. Show me your hands. Drop the gun. Drop the gun. Hey, someone get the shield out of my trunk. Drop the gun. Additional units in route. After the lethal force encounter, deputies approached Valencia. He displayed obvious signs of death and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Additional deputies arrived at the residence and established a perimeter in an attempt to contact and keep the second suspect described by the reporting party from fleeing. It was unknown if the additional suspect had already fled or was still inside the residence. A search warrant was authored and members of the sheriff's special enforcement division SED responded to search the residence. During the search of the residence, no additional suspect was located and no one else was inside the residence. While investigating the crime scene, investigators located the handgun that Valencia pointed at the deputies still in his right hand with his finger on the trigger. The handgun was determined to be a BB gun and a replica of a Sig Sauer P365 9mm handgun. During the investigation, detectives learned the 911 call was placed from a phone number associated with Abel Valencia in what investigators now believe was an attempt by Valencia to lure deputies to the residence by falsely reporting a robbery. The initial responding deputy suffered lacerations to his arm, was treated at Desert Valley Hospital, and later released.
