these employees think they're flying under the radar but they're about to learn how wrong they are here are five times when dumb employees think they can steal without getting caught number five trusted manager caught stealing $50,000 from family business a trusted manager at a family-owned company in Florida thinks she can steal over $50,000 without getting caught turns out she wasn't as sick as she thought I'm going to go through this real quick with you here this is this is what I have so far okay looks like I've got a log here of some stuff here yeah uh her that was her mileage log because she was authorized to give herself reimbursements for her mileage I think it was like 57 cents per mile if she had to run to the bank or things like that um but the reason I included that is because she was giving herself a lot more than just okay um what what she was authorized to give okay so that's why I ined that and then I have copies of looks like some bank statements those look like her paycheck STS a year for the paycheck STS because she was doing some St through there also she it seems you can see a pattern it seems like we started out okay at the beginning of the year uhhuh and then she started doing um some payroll theft where she was running extra hours or she was giving herself a lot of reimbursements um she even ped around with some bonuses like she was just pushing in her paychecks a lot and it was very consistent it's okay if I sit down yes please sit down so it was very her fraud escalates as she issues unauthorized bonuses and uses company funds for personal credit card payments so oh I'm sorry go ahead what we're going to what I'm going to do is I'm going to go ahead and uh since I have you both here I'm going to swear you both in if you want to raise your right hands you saw statement about to gave you the truth the whole truth okay great great okay she started when uh um February 10th 2020 and what was her position bookkeeper um clerical office office yeah how much do we think at this point is that a loss because of her theft or her unlawful activities okay so we were and when did it start from when end so she started sing through payroll I want to say that was maybe June of 2022 okay um and you have a Year's worth of paycheck Subs so when you get a chance you can go through and see June 22 that's 2020 2022 2022 okay December yeah and I I don't remember the total on that because that's she started out okay she started out fine a she's a family member okay she's your your cousin so we had a lot of trust in her um she started out fine things in her life started changing um she have children she has adult children adult children adult children does she have a narcotic she did in the past but she had been in recovery for a really long time but her Trends and everything I've seen really looks like um but I almost feel like it was just an addiction to the stealing maybe it's because she can't afford her rent or her mortgage or her car payments or her bills the job that she had here was um the best that she' ever done financially she was able to build credit she was able to purchase a house she had a lot of stability that she had never had before further investigation reveals she's been using her position to siphon money but in her personal life she got into a relationship she started dating a woman that and she had not dated for a really long time and the woman was younger than her and I think she tried to um provide a certain lifestyle or appear to have a certain lifestyle with your with her other the person she was yeah because you can see the trend of when she started dating that woman to when the theft started and when everything at work started to change and she started having a lot of anxiety and she had to start leaving a lot start to have medical problems that went on for a while until we finally noticed in December the credit card left and that was a that's a big number that's like $37,000 and when did you first how did you discover that going through your books going through your Ls going yes she you notice that the account was getting low that in an area where it never goes down to so he he mentioned it to me that his account was looking a little low and so I logged into his bank account and looked and I right away saw a payment it said Capital One and it was very strange and that's why I started questioning him like did you give her permission to make one of her personal credit card payments he said no absolutely not so he called her she happened to be out on vacation it was like Christmas week um and she was like I don't know what that is D I'll look into it when I get back to the office or something like that and then we came to the office that day and I just happened to type her personal name into our bank account where you can do a search and that's when multiple transactions popped up for three different credit cards the only thing that's hard for me to determine is her overtime pay for the year she gave herself $1,058 in overtime pay for the year there could have been a little bit of overtime pay for the year she was responsible for tracking her own hour she didn't in it was just like an honor system so I don't know how much of that is set so that's going to be where we're going to have a little we're going to have probably a little bit of an issue um with that the person that replaced her Works about 32 hours a week efficiently she's paying herself 50 to 52 hours every week consistently for the whole last half of the year um I understand there's not a lot we can do about that the evidence clearly shows she's been inflating her own paychecks and using company money to pay off personal debts payroll part is going to be a wash the I don't think it's going to be a wash but it's going to help show the trend when it started like where she was doing the payroll theft and then when my daughter came in to do payroll she couldn't steal payroll she couldn't do the payroll theft anymore and then she moved into the stealing from the credit cards and you can see you can see your dates clearly from the time you can see that when she was stealing through payroll the date our daughter started which was like mid October payroll theft immediately stops credit card theft immediately starts until the day we catch it so why do you think she would to that do you think she they're going to notice this I'm I'm going to switch to another method here is that why control she didn't have control over payroll she knew somebody would be seeing that she would have to turn her hours into somebody and somebody else would be doing that for her okay so we trusted her to just do her own hours and be honest about it and pay herself accordingly but then somebody else took over that job and then again what do we think we the overall amount is here that you were temporary required of I had an estimate of like $52,000 between payroll and um credit card okay um you did mention to Officer Taylor that she did openly admit doing this we had a video an audio of her meting that we Shar with Mr Taylor yeah I mean I know you can't use that like in Border fortunately that can't be used because but we asked her we have some things to talk to you about please meet us at the office she showed up at the office that morning and crying turned over her computer um and sat here and admitted all the credit card the okay chances are she's going to admit to it but there make no I want a lawyer and won't say Happ and she has that right she has the right to stay silent she has the right to alert uh the thing is she's working for somebody else now we heard she has a job somewhere else like is she going to do this to her next employer like that's the reason why we decided to she has she has a problem okay something is going on yeah so moments later the suspect is confronted by the police all right first of all I want to tell you I want to thank you for coming in Miss Kitty uh you're not under arrest you're not going to jail uh but for your information I just need to inform you some rights okay so just because you are being investigated on on on a concern all right again I'm of course well I'm a retired detective I'm Holly Hill I keep saying detective but I'm offer trailer with vanel PD now and uh I want to inform you of your rights again you're not under arrest we're not going to uh you're not going to you're going to go home tonight all right first of all I want you to go raise your right hand for me you saw me swear and airm and state me come in about to give be the truth the whole truth and the about the truth yes sir okay thanks all right you have the right to remain sign anything you say may be used as evidence against you you have the right to talk to attorney or have him or or you now or anytime during question if you can not afford Turning oneway Point represent you if anytime you would stop talking or having turning presence all question be stopped to your question you understand these rights yes sir okay you okay talk to me actually no because I what I'm not exactly 100% sure what this is I know when you asked me on the phone yesterday I was just walking out of work and there was a couple other people following out the door MH and I wasn't getting into it okay but I did call we have a hotline at work and I called and they advised me not to answer any questions find out what it actually was about and then contact them again so that if I do need an attorney they know how to you know best assign which way to go what I need and who to you know give me okay so you choose not to talk correct because she refused to speak to the officer this happens I can't really share much more okay all right um I will tell you this it is a criminal investigation I already know what happened I already know about the credit card that he paid off okay then that then I know what it is okay so I know how to advise the attorneys and it's warm payroll okay conditions bonuses stuff like that so um all right so I am not going to take any do further on that um but that helps me to know what to tell them but I have your phone number so yes sir uh if there's anything that we need to reach out to you for yes sir will you respond back oh yes sir okay yes sir yeah they told me definitely show up cuz that you know I I gave my word that I would be here and that I needed to show up okay well that's that's good I mean I again what I what we try to do in in case like this we try to get your side of the story because all I have is their Side Story now um they've been told not to reach out to you they've been told and I'm ask you not to reach out to them yes sir now it's a criminal investigation so okay um that's what's going there I mean know I don't think you have any questions for me no sir it's an ongoing case um you know I just again it's not looking really good for you that's why I want to talk to you I want you what was behind it and everything else but again I can't compare to speak and I told you you're free to leave you're free to not speak you're free to get a lawyer and everything else anything else the police investigation leads to formal charges and the case goes to court the manager is found guilty of stealing over $50,000 and receives a 24-month jail sentence number four cashier caught scamming $3,000 from employer a Dollar General cashier scams thousands by loading $200 to $300 on her cash app marking transactions as paid but keeping the money loss prevention catches on quickly here's what happens next give her opportunity she'll be excuse [Music] me excuse [Music] me so was just uh her c yeah her cting the money and then taking a little bit at a time or it was like a multiple kind ofy you doing you doing I'm Frank from L prevention hey Frank have an employee what she was doing was scanning her phone her cash app on her phone and and close the door yeah and entering funds she also took a PlayStation gift card loaded it but never never she was never putting money in the register so she owed she she loaded $775 and then she also on this day these are all the C this is all the cash and then on this day she let this customer walk out with $300 worth of merchandise that's her right there um she here now yeah she's right there she just walked so everything's on here and everything's on video for you here you go M might as well call her in come in she's been Cooperative she wasn't she hasn't been [Applause] but wants to prosecute so yeah yeah yeah no problem four 6 7 8 n okay I see it all right so it be 300 because she on this on the sale you see where it says aborted she canceled the sale so $300 worth of merchandise just went out nothing was paid for zero a and then these one 2 three and four she was never putting money in the register but she was loading up her her cash the Lost prevention officer breaks down the entire scheme to the police okay gotta want to get I think they get what happens is we end up with a cash shortage so we end up with a cash shortage okay what Happ the cash it just doesn't walk so we start going through and the first thing I tell him is look for uh gift cards go for gift cards look for U cash app sure enough she was she had her phone down below the register so she would pick it up hit it and then enter the number whatever she wanted got you but no money would ever go in the register is that what she did on multiple transaction and then the one time she let somebody walk out with the $300 except what everything was Cash app except this one which was the the one sale the Sony that's a PlayStation gift card okay for 75 bucks yeah got you she wanted some money for her PlayStation got you she just straight up took that right y okay so loaded it and then pretty much took it and on video they go in order got you the cops double check all the details before making their move he was right outside I just saw her by the door he went to go get her I don't know where she went and then okay so these 314 33 and then 314 okay and these were all on the same date or no this one was on 3:23 16 so want me to highlight the dates for you yes this the first time I've ever seen it like this I printed them out um let me see so the date on this one right here 313 314 314 and see4 got and then this one was on 323 okay perfect okay oh she's coming back but I don't see her now let me see she's there she right here oh man I'll move out of the way too many people ni soon after they confront the cashier at the center of it all what you got yourself huh well you know that's not my know not my call you know I mean you own up to some things you have a conversation with them you know that's totally up to them you want that's totally up to them not me at this point all right let me just read you this for quick all right all right uh require the warning before you make any statements that give the following constitutions right if I ask if you understand just yes or no I can clarify okay you have the right to remain silent I answer any questions do you understand yes okay any statement must be freely and voluntarily given do you understand yes all right you have the right to presence and reputation of a lawyer of your choice before you make any statement during any questions you understand yes if you cannot afford a lawyer you're entitled to the presence and reputation of a court appointed lawyer before you make any statement during any question you understand yes all right if anytime during the interview you do not wish to answer any questions you have the privil to remain sign you understand yes okay if I can make no threats or promises they induce you to make a statement this be of your own free will you understand yes any statement can will be used against you in the court law you understand yes all right so what's going on so they gave me a list of these transactions s right yeah I told him I pay it back I told them what I admitted to some things he said that he would talk to you about maybe you can give me a court or something what what I mean did you need money or were you what was going on I to do walk out with a lot of stuff yeah he told me about that I think it was like $300 something do right or something cash okay what happened with the cash up walk me through that I like 200 she comes clean admitting to the theft and expressing regret 200 how many separate transactions you do what like did you cuz there's a couple different there's a Green Dot there a spin wheell yeah my SP 200 okay and then you did the Green Dot and then what's this what is that valid direct there another transition for like $200 on the 14 on the cash cash app and how does that work like with I'm not familiar with cash app app so is it just a app you scan the card then it goes okay and it just goes on your phone so you would just you would just load it with however much much you want it and then you just scan it and then go into your account okay and then as far as the um as far as the different times where you let the person walk out did you know the person or how did that work out I don't know I just use a friend like just want to be getting par oh gotta so they just ring up a bunch of stuff and then how does it work they just walk out or just ring with some stuff walk out okay so the other one was trying to like you know it was a boy that knew me and he he was getting some stuff and I said no he still okay all right when that was on one occasion right mhm okay did you know at any point that what you were doing wrong I mean did you think about it or yeah that's why I put it that's why I stopped it this a job I mean it's you know it's how you make your money you know that that cash app scam that's temporary you know that 200 then that's going to obviously you going to hold it over your head that one day they might catch me you know ain't nothing like a steady paycheck when you getting your money the right way you think um let me ask I think other guy was good let me see the officer then lays out the serious consequences she's facing she she Wasing she wrote a statement as well she gave street she um your uncle's out there too she a m Uncle your uncle I don't know you said she was your uncle yeah so this is the way it works all right and it's totally in their hands but they're wanting to file charges okay because of the amount all right it would be considered Grand Theft all right and it's a felony so youd have to be taken in so inju Gateway in Congress northbound lane 36y old female check out you would have to be obviously taken to the county jail and AR rain and stuff like that only because of the mount okay at this point I don't know I don't really know how the bonds and stuff work sometime you with a total lighing up to felony Grand in Theft she's officially charged you get relax for a second I was trying to see what's your uncle out there I'm not going anywhere I'm not running one we'll we'll do way we'll do on the way is he still still out there yeah okay what holl we I got you thank you sir all I know is he was wearing red Crocs mhm no black crops no red red yeah I don't he was wearing red crops you way yeah I thought one of Y was coming I don't know you right okay I know you [Applause] call my pH I was hoping it was going to be you I like make this easy I was hoping it wasn't I a even know I A this address yes sir no problem uh let's see we got everything else we got the receipt receipts in here that's your [Applause] receipt I don't think I got it I think you underline everything it's probably all right um want me to handcuff you out there or by the car all right I'm trying to take off I don't want to embarrass you and stuff finally the suspect is escorted to the patrol car handcuffed and taken to jail you wanted you want just leave [Music] here I got it you say your uncle you got realizar uh I doubt you'll be in that long you know I highly doubt it just hurry up in here I know everybody being nosy and stuff you see that's what everybody want to walk their dogs and come outside listen just learn from this m you're still here y'all can't put in the chance program that's go right there y'all can't put in the chance program I don't know that's what he say he say um he say okay I'm just check your pockets I'm not going to terminate whatever uh the phone number okay all right I'll see you all right oh move my the employee is arrested and placed on two years of probation number three 21-year-old faces charges after stealing from Walmart over several weeks a Walmart employee loads gift cards with $200 to $1,000 during his shifts repeating the scam at least six times and using them for personal expenses here's what happens when police are called in isi this up so the other guy the other LP gu pull the video and where you guys going to be reference with them in the backr department hey I know oh pizza ready for this one I guess so no all right so they have an employee that's been swiping uh gift cards on different times taking different amounts of money up to $5,500 up to what 5500 so he's been doing it multiple times and sometimes he's actually taking cash they got videos of the transaction they don't have him video leaving the store himself okay um some are $200 some the last one I think was what you said over 1,000 bucks yeah they have the documented the timeline here but they're trying to get all the video they have video of the of the transaction but not actually leaving for the day or what what's that [Music] yeah like I said just acting suici so they have his name they don't have his date of birth and they don't have his address the system whatever they access and the dra is not here okay Terry so you said we have multiple transactions no it's not work we don't we can't Ashley can we get copy of that now so I can give it to the officer you got to give him copies with all of this stuff he needs we're not sure yet I'm going to ask him his last transaction was June 14 14th June 14th July 14th July 14th July 14th last transaction 1,000 bucks yeah during my conversation I'll ask him and I'll try to recover anything that he has taken today um and then so further company poliy want talk them first before we even get involved okay so when they talk us I guess we'll be in be area the store's loss prevention team provides transaction logs and video footage to confirm his actions he's going to put the amount that he needs to load onto the card so he hit he hit okay okay that he wants to the transaction okay which is three different cards he scans another card you can see the draw pop open he use his KNE to stop it where she pops out transaction is finished and then the draw takes the card and leaves signs off the register first when the police confront him the employee confesses to the theft trying to justify his actions all right Jean at this point in time you have the right to remain silent and not answer any questions do you understand that yes you have the right to represent of a lawyer of your choice before you make any statements or during question understand all right if you cannot afford a lawyer you are entitled to the presence of a court appointed lawyer before you make any statements toing any questioning do you understand that yes okay any statements can and may be used against you in a court of law you understand yes all right if at any time during an interview you do not wish to answer any questions you are privileged to remain silent you know I'm saying that okay I can make no threat or promises to induce you to make a statement this must be of your own free will you understand okay so that being said look look tell me what happened what happened what I see you a statement here you like to tell me what happened like based off your statement go Ahad tell me what happened so what sometimes like I got money on my card and stuff and then but I didn't know the gift cards going through like you know like somebody buying stuff I just doing so I can for stuff or something that I need okay so when you doing this you didn't realize that that what you're doing was wrong or you did no I I stopped doing it you stopped doing it yeah when did you stop doing when was the last time you did it huh when was the last time you put something on the car last week last week yeah and I I say I'm not doing that again cuz I feel like it's not right yeah so now I've been using my own money okay when was your first time you he when did you start doing this you don't remember no you know roughly how much money you you taken over the time period no but I didn't do that a lot time you didn't do he admits how much he sto and how many times he pulled off the scheme did you ever do any big you know do big purchases while you're doing it like large numbers like you know a couple hundred doar buy stuff no like when you were putting stuff onto a card was it was it large numbers or was it small numbers like 10 20 bucks or two three 4 $500 no not it's like 100 100 something okay and you know you know rly how many times you done that why did get yeah I like five times you only did it like five four or five times okay all right you do me a favor for me could you state your name and spell it for me p a i w l n t j that's your first name or your last name my last name okay what's your first name j j e okay what's your date of birth May 29th May 29 2002 yeah okay all right so at this point you understand that you are under arrest right okay is there anything else that uh you would like to have me put into my report that you know know so you just you you're guilty and you're sorry you understand what you did you just sorry this want money I can what's that if this want money I can just give it to me yeah I mean not this money but you know my mom going help me my aunt can't hear you man yeah I need to speak I I'm saying if they want the money I can give it back that my auntie can help me my mom yeah I don't know I don't know why I'm doing this do okay you willing to give all the money back you want to give all the money back sure you have any idea how much I mean I don't care how much is it I don't care you're just saying like it's about 55,000 so they explain to you how much money that that you how much um it is on total I I don't know cuz this gift card didn't take more than 200 his offer to pay back the stolen money doesn't change the fact that he now faces serious legal trouble for thinking he could outsmart the system okay and you're going to give all the money back yeah today only once yeah I'm asking you I don't know I'm just asking you a questions can I do it twice I mean I don't know cuz I'm just from my PA did you talk to them did you tell them that that you going to give them all the money back hear me out she want to hear you out she don't want that money okay you just had an ex an interview with Walmart H did you just have an interview with Walmart what did you just now have an interview with lady yes talking to her yes so this paper that has your name you wrote this yeah and you signed it saying that you wrote it no one made you write this no you wrote it on your own free will which is basically saying that you took some money on a gift card to buy food no I said I the gift card to buy food yeah and that you're sorry and you don't know what got over you for doing this but you return the gift per money every time you get paid yeah and once again you're sorry right that's all you WR um and when did you say you think you started doing this I didn't know exactly I know couple weeks months Christmas couple couple months I mean you just started working here in what April right so April May June you've only been here three months May June July what's that we on July right yeah we're in July now the officers press him for more details trying to find out the motive behind his scheme you ever been arrested before no that's why I just said that before that what uh I know you said you don't know what happened what made you do this for like what do you what do you think made you do this I know other employees talking about doing this are other about doing this stuff too or so what happened we're just trying to you know you said you never been arrested yeah we're trying to figure out trying to figure something out here you know what would lead you to do this for your I've been working on so many that register I haven't done that before I used to work at Wendy's doing taking orders and stuff did you do it at Wendy I said I never did it cuz I work in cash before you know I know how old are you 21 21 your birthday is one oh my birthday was last month in May so now you see you just became an adult right so you know you did this before your birthday you know I didn't say I did it before my no no I'm saying if you did you know You' be getting charged as a minor not an adult you know so we just trying to see you know make some better life decisions moving forward you know I understand if this is your first criminal fence I mean the system might have you know some leniency with you but you can't just take that for granted you know can you just do this without my mom and without what my mom yeah we don't got to tell your mom you're an adult you're you're going to be the one to tell her yeah you're tell you want to tell her but I'm just I'm just trying to speak to you like you know manto man like I want to make sure you're going to head down the road making better decisions man like you're only 21 you a long life ahead of you right you don't want to get you know I mean I can I swear I can just give the money back I got I got you man I understand that you know but we have a job if you want it tomorrow I can just give it tomorrow I'm call my auntie we we have a job to do today so it's not it's not about the money right now I'm just talking to you like you know about making better decisions in your life you know you're going to you're going to get you're going to go to jail okay they offer him some advice that might help his case you can explain to him hey man I've never done this before you'll give all the money back maybe he work for you you know I can't speak for him you know all to call my mom in huh do I have to call my mom no no you1 not talk is it going to be the end of the night or well you're going to go to jail tonight like in a couple hours and then you'll probably see the jail in the morning and I'm going to stay by my jail no you're staying at jail tonight long probably just tomorrow until tomorrow can you talk to the judge yeah Jud the judge will give you a bond tomorrow morning like between 8 and 10: a.m. they give you a bond or he make just release you who know like I said it's up to him that's that's you know you can call your mom when you get to the jail what that I can't tell her you can't tell her that okay so you did this did you was it only on gift cards or did you take cash I I never took you never took cash so if I show you some receipts of you voiding items that people are paying for and keeping the cash of that items I didn't keep I mean avoiding stuff but not giving the money shut the door a little bit what there's no way you can un a little bit they're not going to be comfortable man they already I already made them loose for i s my whole finger in I can't make them any loose stand up after that the suspect is prepared for transport one of your cards it's mine yes how much is on this one it doesn't work it's empty Mone it doesn't have money but it's still one of the car here um you might us you want to take a picture that way we can match it maybe to one of the receipts um you want see if he has more in here is there any more in here but is there any more in here no I understand but is there more gift cards in here that don't work oh I'll take that that has his name on it I know it's garbage yeah that's another one this one work maybe okay no those aren't those are his cards hold on I need to take pictures of that oh you want a picture of this one his his discount card [Music] that one we usually ask for back I didn't I didn't think you here long enough to get a discount card you just got one or is that forong to your dad I don't see a receipt where's there a receipt the back and behind it no I'm keeping so when I'm so you'll at least recover $799 so you his discount rep to see how many times before taking him into custody the officer ensures that all the theft related information is collected so this is that's just a discount card that we'll shred I mean it won't be active after wow used multiple cards yeah these are all of the ones he used today those are what he used those are the numbers and everything so he Ed like five cards today of cards um cards on this purchase two three four five six then he avoided some Bank issues here void they must have not worked the employee is charged with six counts of grand theft and one count of an organized scheme did Def frud number two Target employee busted taking $2,000 from store a newly promoted manager at a local Target store decides to test her luck by stealing money from several cash registers on her very first day what she doesn't know is that the store has high definition 4K cameras watching her every move and her drawers were short every day then I assume yeah the shortage was there okay how were you aware made aware of this so I made aware of this every time a team member opens the regist it Flags in a system if it's not for a sale um and as well as I review the closing cash closing I review all of our closing cash operations regularly um while I was reviewing we're missing a cash bag an entire bag um and we were trying to find out where it went so I'm like all right I'm just going to start reviewing video on the and on the 20th I found that both bags were put there but then I watch this number go over to another register that register okay and Canal the cash I'll show you that initial video but this is the one I clicked on first there's our team number there and I have a better picture with the shot that coincide you're good you're good that coincide TimeWise but this this is a nice clear zoom in Over the Top Shot okay can you pause it for a second okay um so we're in here just reviewing video real quick it's it's can you just make sure she doesn't try to walk out all right it's probably going to be a 15 Cur so so we're looking at ones fives 10 20s 50s and hundreds or in the last right it's a a little bit more video cuz I got the whole process but so you combine the 50s and hundreds in the far right mhm is that how every register is supposed to be that's standard yeah so what she does is she takes all the money out of the register um and once she has it all out she fans it all out and then you can see the left side which would be the larger bills are cuz she's setting it up that way she'll take multiple what looks like on the low the store's loss prevention officer begins reviewing footage to figure out where the cash is going is this common for a cashier to sit here and pull all the money out at the cash register and count it and then typically they should just take it all out bang bang bang bang bang and put it in one of those bags so they're not usually counting it at the register they count at the register we have a cash office and a machine that counts it okay so smaller bills on top bigger bills on the bottom in the order that she pulled it off from right there rolls it up puts a rubber band on it sets it on top puts that my device little phone thing on top of it puts the remainder of the money in the bag those are coupons or manufacturs let's get processed as well okay she then rebanks the register with the money that's supposed to go in there all the way to the left place the bag on top standard places that bag into the cart and then she comes back and retrieves both her phone and the money that's underneath right there into the right paret this is her going over to that same register it's just a different camera angle so you can see that it's positive identification of her doing it are these 360 cams is that how you're able to move it or is I can move only certain cameras they are 360 I was live here watching this for my office okay that's how I was able to zoom in and get that real clean clean clear shot but this is a similar video you can kind of see her do it here but the top one's the best one it's just another angle okay so is this common for her to go from register to register to take the money out put it in the bag and bring it to you guys or is it we have a team member that typically does it um whether it's her or another team member the typical practice they go register register take the money out put in the bags put it in this cart it locks into the cart and this is what she was assigned to do that at that at that point the evidence is Crystal CLE clear showing her actions from multiple angles and from various cameras around the store for a missing bag one of these GRE bags Wasing something like reviewing days worth of video trying to find a bag still haven't found it um and then I saw her do this on one of the the camera shots I was looking at I'll show you which one that is that's on the 20th at 10:30 or 10:24 p.m. I was just curious yeah no it's it's really cool that it logs that way so like even if someone's doing this on like a regular transaction cash on we can to see it that too do you think she had something to do with that bag I can't prove it um but okay it went missing and that's what triggered the whole investigation shortly after the officers confront the suspect I work for West pal Beach Police Department I'm sure you're aware of why we're here cuz they told me that they had spoking to you about it yeah I have okay um but first off before I start I have to read you your rights it doesn't mean you're under arrest it just something I have to do before I ask you any questions okay have you ever heard of the Miranda warnings okay I'm going to read them to you after each one that I read to you I just need to give me a verbal yes or no if you understand it if you don't understand it I'll go ahead and explain it to you okay all right you the right to remain silent not answer any questions do you understand that you have the right to the presence of a lawyer of your choice before you make any statement during any question you [Applause] understand you cannot afford a lawyer you entitled to the presence of a court appointed lawyer before you make any statement end during any question understand that M any statement can and may be used against you in the court of law do you understand that any statement you make must be freely and voluntarily given you understand that at any time during the interview you do not wish to answer any questions your privilege to remain silent you understand that I can make no threats or promises to induce you to make a statement this must be of your own free will you understand it after her writes a r to her the questioning begins so as I spoke to your colleagues there um they basically accusing you of taking in unknown amount of money at this point um somewhere close to the range of $1,400 do you know anything about this at all okay um how long have you worked here for almost three years okay and you've had no other issues like this within the last three years correct um I noticed on camera that you were uh responsible for going from register to register and taking the money out of the drawer is that a common practice years okay and what is included in that practice what what do you do can you explain to me so I am taking the money from the day out and putting new money for the next day okay and when you take the money out do you count it or anything like that so you just so how would you take it out of the drill just take it out put it in the red or green bag and then put the next bag into the okay so you basically just go from each money slot pull it out place it in a bag don't look at it or anything right I fix it up if I need to so if it's out of order or something you you'll fix it up okay would there be any reason why you would roll up money no okay so you wouldn't roll it in to any kind of like money roll and then put a rubber over it or anything no so when I was watching the video footage it's pretty clear that it was it's what you were doing is rolling it into a money rule placing a rubber band over it and then placing it on top of the desk why would you be doing that I do that you didn't do that okay so why would the video footage show you doing that you see where I'm at here right I'm watching a video footage that's unedited from the Department Store there's no reason to accuse you of this I don't know if it's unedited but I have never done anything like that okay is there anything else youd like to add to this all right she denies everything insisting she hasn't stolen any money but with video footage proving otherwise her denial don't hold up for long so Mr Janine based off the video evidence and uh the statements made by your co-workers I'm going to be taking you to jail tonight is there anything on your person that might poke or stick me no okay can you stand up for me please what is g to happen with my items uh they're going to go with you to jail okay can you take this jacket off okay thank you and when do I get to speak to a lawyer um that will be after processing so once you get processed into the jail processed into the jail then you'll have an opportunity to call whever you would like Jack that's their this is no okay jacket's yours yeah Chris you mind grabbing that yeah I got you there no other after reviewing the video and statements from other employees the police arrest her and take her into custody walk with you can when you guys lead us out yeah thank you how many more did you take hang wait one second mind just leaning against the car put your Lo on the left side left side yeah is it because it's caught in your hair band do you think or is it it's starting let me take this it's okay all I'm going to reach around you and I'm going to put the seat Bel on okay actually I'll wait because I have a female officer that's going to come and do a throw search on you um I'm going to drive you to the back over there so we're not doing all this right up okay she's eventually sentenced to 12 months of Probation and ordered to pay back $2,500 in restitution surprisingly despite her conviction she manages to get hired at another retail job a few months later number one employees in hot water after stealing felony worthy merchandise two employees are caught stealing felony level merchandise from Old Navy by using pass offs where one pretends to be a customer while the other cancels the transaction the store's loss prevention team spots the scheme and quickly calls the police we have a we have a um shoplifter over $1,000 she works with us in the company okay so they just asked for backup HR Hi how are you can you feel me on real quick she was just telling me that you have an employee at stole $1,000 worth merchandise we don't know they just told us to call PD um to have them to arrest them because they want to prosecute so you're not involved in it either no in the back they just told me to call okay so you don't know anything about it I I other than what you just told me okay she's [Applause] gon yeah um just walking into the Old Navy now um I I don't even have any information yet because HR is in the office with the person right now they're having me step outside go St she's doing a statement and everything um all I got is that the person's is an employee here and sto merchandise that that's all I got I just got this and I'm running her so she's in this is the suspect Jan Brown let's just wait no no these are employees she's in the office yeah she's in the office um stole $950 954 the store manager is questioned by the officers as well saying it's the truth nothing but tell you right all right so tell us what happened with this employee so the employee um was called doing pass off or benefited from pass off merchandise okay can you explain again the pass off Yeah so basically she was acting like a k she as a customer and somebody else was ringing her and those items although they were scanned they were immediately deleted of the transaction now you're saying somebody else was scanning for her somebody else was scanning so somebody was helping her somebody else was helping her where is that person now that person is coming and I'm interviewing her right after this oh so you have two people today yes okay so this person coming in rank this person that I have in the office and this person in the office ranked the person coming in so they did it towards each other what is the total of both I got I'm treating them separately we're not that's not that's not how it works they're in cahoots they both get charged with a felony for the full amount so person person a did $500 and person B did $15 of theft they both get charge for $515 I can provide that information my case file is in the office there's a subsection for the uh using one person conspiracy conspiracy so that's that's definitely the retail theft one conspiracy Comm retail theft a stat yeah it's under the retail statute not long after the officer confronts the employee J you got to speak louder J bro Jody j jodan okay no I guess you have an idea why we're here yes okay all right now I'm requiring to warn you before you make any statements that you have the following constitutional rights you have the right to remain silent and not answer any questions do you understand that s I'm sorry you said I have the right to answer so anytime I ask you say yes or no if you understand okay you have the right to silent and not answer any questions do you understand that yes any St must understand pres repr La chice any question you understand La lawat understand thre you understand those rights which I have read to you yes all right with those rights in mind are you choosing to speak with me yes sir all right so this brown sir what happens take merchandise that for you took merchandise that in paper okay how did you do that the cashier R and then she take it out what you say a cashier rang it and they they would take it out like you mean what taking out you mean canceling it from the transtion the transactions okay and you said you were doing the scanning or somebody else was doing the scanning somebody El okay what is the other uh cashier's name L I'm sorry Le leet so when did this start happening of of riging these these transactions to be honest I don't remember exactly like the date when it happen but I know it's more than one time it happen just more one time yeah it's nothing planned for it just happened like I just bring the stuff and then she did that and it didn't happen now are you getting this merchandise for what your family or you trying to sell it I'm I'm not selling it the thing I don't need I don't know why she admits that because her coworker helped her steal she felt obligated to return the favor are you saying you don't know why you're stealing it so so what are you doing with the clothes when you once you get them it it's like I it's stuff that I take to pay for her but she just take it up like from me and my kids so you saying she's doing you a favor well I guess cuz there's nothing that we talk about we never talk about and sh she have you done that for her I did that for her cuz she did it for me so so both of you guys are taking being nice to each other giving each other free stuff out of Old Navy's Dawn yes sir and she never said why she wanted to do that for you we never talk about it to be honest so so how'd this come about then that's the thing I don't know I just go to the register and then she just took it off but it's nothing like is just crazy cuz it's nothing that that I planned or or or she I don't know but it it just happened to be honest is not like something that I need to say is why would why I do it that way okay so you saw her doing the scanning did any time you once you saw her that she was canceling it didn't you say hey you didn't ring me up for this not to be honest I this I wanted to talk but I just so you knew she was giving you free stuff you should well quote unquote free cuz it's not free she was giving you items that you did not pay for and then you took those items outside and onto your marway to your house and how many transactions do you think you've done to be honest I don't want to say cuz I'm not sure you think it's more than 10 no it's definitely not more than 10 or maybe no did she actually ever say anything to you hey hug me up or no that that's the thing we never talk about it it just happened so you did it automatically because you did it for you s even though she's regretful and apologetic the officer remains firm and direct with her not like like I to do it I never go nowhere I never do this the question is now you're saying that you would pay for all this stuff were you were you were you going to pay for all this stuff or you just saying that because you got caught no no no no I'm willing I was willing to pay for it after you got caught no so let me ask you that this has been happening for a while cuz we know it's been happening for several months when were you going to pay for the St then I was like said I was going to tell her like we need to stop this that wasn't the question the question was when were you going to be paying for all this stuff if you said that you going to stop that's the thing I said we talk we didn't pray to anybody just any so you just could to stop the behav but not pay back Old Navy yes I'm sorry at this time you are under arrest you are going to our County Jail you are going also as a felon as a felony cuz the amount total goes over the fony threshold and what we're going to do is I want all your cash I'm going to count that in front of you now this is all going to go into evidence but what you have take it out place it on this table and we're going to count it together okay these are Jamaican money you want those as well uh right now we just Jamaican currency currency um it's not going to go into as currency it goes into your regular property okay just American US currency you want the coins as well yeah just put everything right there 188 I'll I'll do it I'll do it this is J so take take that out $1 $2 this one to e jamaic okay 14 15 16 $316 before she knows it she's in handcuffs and on her way to jail stand up for me please do me a favor turn around for us please are we going out the back door or anything or yeah I have her driver's license okay I still have yours yeah sorry you want her to take it want her to take it she live West no she lives down in South oh okay we're going to do the next we got to interview the other uh young lady um do me a favor grab her 14 I mean her license is here uh you can start the rough form her license I just put it in the her Pur wherever rainy put the purse ready yeah the thing my hand the whole time you got two yes you got double well I've got a double cage oh well if you attack it sh you shoot that's that's that's going to work well that's that's that's that that that that new like they they they dri it I got this I'm going to take this I I got that not comtable all right you all right [Music] thank the officers then turned their attention to her accomplice you obviously know why we're here so tell us what happened um well I guess I did um give items to someone who didn't P okay um it was a right and what is the what is the coworker's name jod jod do you know her last name no how long have you known Jodie uh for the same time that I've been here a year about a year yeah okay so walk me through it what what you said you gave items what did how did that happen how what did you do you just walked out with the items gave it to her outside or so I one day it started with her asking me to check her out in the register so I did as I was getting items she like whispered to me to take some off but to Stu put them in the bag and even though I knew it was wrong and like I felt you know what did she say to you yeah what did she say to you again she as I was um I guess bringing up her items she was like in the voice telling me to take some off take items off yeah okay still give it to her okay and what did you what did you say to her well I didn't say anything and you just did it yeah explain what you mean taking items off so I deleted them from the transaction so that she wouldn't be charged is that what that means yes okay so you rang you rang them up you scanned them but then you took them off the list so it doesn't show up as a as an item yeah that she has to pay for yeah all right how often do you do this um um I don't know okay one time two times more than three more than four more than five more than three okay there three or more than more than three multiple three multiple times so we're talking about what 5 10 15 estimate 8 how often per week not often not often no whenever she decided to buy an item the officer digs deeper making sure to gather all the necessary Det details every time she bought an item did she always ask you or did you just automatically started doing it for her she always asked me she always asked you yeah okay as far as you buying items did she do the same thing for you yeah but without me asking okay but and and you knew that you were taking stuff home that you didn't pay for yes okay and at no time whatsoever that you thought maybe I should pay for these you just walked out with the items yes yes okay and when she was purchasing items she came directly to you yes with there other employees working um most of the well no it was most of the times when I was in the only cashier yeah so she will only go to you she wouldn't go to any other cashier yeah sometimes sometimes and she other times she did she had to go to another like when the manager was casat sharing okay and at that point she never got that no quot called hookup no okay it was only with you so you guys did it for each other did you do it for anybody else no did anybody else do it for you so it's just the two of you no friends came in no friends and family benefits anything like that you decided to do it for them no and the clothing that you purchased was it for your personal wearing or did I never purchased clothes no no the clothing that she that you went to to register her who it for okay so when you what did you buy from her that she would give you that you know that she didn't scan stuff chips so actual food items things like that nothing it had nothing to do with water and Takis which is yeah Takis yeah yeah great stuff she admits her involvement wasn't out of need but because she wanted to stay on her co-workers good side clothing that she rung up that she voided out wasn't clothing for you it was clothing for her one transaction cloes so there was one transaction with her oh she never me according to that so okay so it was clothing and food items that she got the total $75 yes okay so you did get clothing okay guess yeah you don't remember you don't remember Sor you just remember Foods yeah there's there's boy from pants there um the flannel oh okay you remember that now sorry okay so who was at for you me okay so what made you do this um I guess like the fact that if I didn't like maybe it'll be me here how would that help you by stealing stuff I'm not I don't I'm not following I guess on my good side I'm sorry or being on her good side on her good side why would you have to be on her good side is she threaten you or something no oh okay because you should be on the good side just by working with each other I mean you don't have to be stealing from you know trying to steal together I don't know some people you know just say no she's not your boss though right 18 or 19 Yeah man cuz I'm kind of I think she's on the 19 because I don't think the conspirac is there no for that cuz she's just benefiting herself for food items but not asking her to do anything she wasn't asking and she wasn't it was just one yeah so Mr fla so you agree with that the 19 I agre what we're talking about is misdemeanor felony level okay $75 is the misdemeanor is a misdemeanor you you're Prosecuting on the misdemeanor we just got to make sure that yeah okay the police arrest both employees for felony theft because the value of the stolen goods surpasses the felony threshold cuz I didn't cuz understand this I need you to understand this is what we're talking about right now okay your friend is going to jail right now for a felony cuz she stole over $950 something dollars that you helped her with as far as bringing the sub up you have approximately $75 worth of stuff that's considered a misemer you are going to jail today I'm going to make that clear to you you will be under arrest today now we will make a decision whether or not you have a notice to appear or actually take the take the ride to to the county jail what we're talking about is the fact technically if two people are helping each other out and trying to steal stuff it is considered a Fel so that's what we were debating on whether or not let's just review the statute yeah we'll review the statue because they're me yeah right because if it if we're going to review it and read it and just make sure we're right um because if it is the misdemeanor level will let you know but you regardless you you're okay good why all right okay so here's what we're going to do I'm going to have you sign up you can go ahead and give that tag to her not going to need that all right she's terminated um yeah okay yeah thank you all right so you're going to go ahead and turn around for me so as he does that said um the company obviously based on the find made a decision to terminate your employment if immediately um so you will not be able to work at any of the stores within Gap Inc that is or Gap Gap Outlet ala Banana Republic and banana repu Factory and only we open that thank you thank you you want her passenger yeah all right they're terminated from their positions at the store and both face legal consequences so we're going to put her in your car can I Spit on my gum yeah I'm not going to get you for like littering thing for your F that' be real cruel of me to to hit you up with that ticket all right so Deputy Alba here is going to go ahead and check you where you from um from here you're goingn here yeah where's your where where's your backround Mexican all right so at this point everything that Deputy ala says goes all right I just got to go do some paperwork just watch your head okay thank you are you okay it's just embarrass we've reached the end folks let us know your thoughts in the comments section
