I'm used to doing that, but I don't know if she's going to be >> She's going to have to. She was the one that >> I called it in, so >> it doesn't matter. She was the one. >> Okay. >> All right. Well, good. >> Okay. Thank you. No problem. >> This is him. Check's $950. Um, but have the check. I'm about to call Sergeant for you right quick. He was up at the >> 42 and we'll have one >> and he say, you know, you cast a check for me, you know, you let me use your ID. If you cash your check for me, I'll give you 100 bucks. >> So, I gave you 100 bucks in cash. >> No, he No, he said he was going to give me 100 bucks if you cast a check because he didn't have his ID. >> And how much was the check? Want to pay the honor of that store. >> That's kind of >> convenient next to Char City. Next to Char City right there. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Because I use another guy's bike ride up here. You know what I mean? But he said he's going to give me 100 bucks for doing it. Just using my ID. So, I didn't know I'm going to get in trouble because the check, it didn't have no signature or nothing on it. He just used my name. That's it. >> He's cooperative but confused as officers begin to question him about the origin of the check. >> Yeah. I didn't sign it or anything, you know. I just brought it up here. >> Just trying to cash it. >> What's his name? >> I call him DC. >> DC? >> Do you say where he staying at? >> No, man. I don't know where he stays at, you know. Like I said, he comes up to the store all the time. >> And I know he work I know he work I know he works at at at the restaurant at Michaels up there next to um that laundromat up uh up up from the post office up there at Michaels that restaurant. I know he used to be a chef there, you know. So I'm thinking that he's good in West. >> No. Yes, ma'am. This west west side east west side. Yes, ma'am. >> On west of >> Yes, ma'am. Montgomery Montgomery. >> So, Montgomery was Michael's. I think it's Michael's restaurant. I know he worked there. I know he worked there, but you know, I think after his thought since, you know, he came to me with the check and he said he have his idea and just use my name, >> you know. Yeah. >> Yeah. But I think he was I give you $100, man. If you take this to the bank and cash it for me, >> you know. >> Yeah, I am. >> So, you stay at >> School Street? >> Well, I was I was there, but no, I'm homeless now. >> Okay. Stay for >> You don't have anything on you I need know about? Okay. >> I'm sorry you in a predicament, man. Can't be trusting folks like that if it ain't casted. You know what I mean? But it can't be trusting like that. >> He has no spray in that. So >> that's what >> nozzle spray. >> Okay. You already check. >> I check. I got all his stuff in. >> Appreciate it. >> Moments later, the man is detained and prepared for transport. In a follow-up call, they speak with a business owner whose account the check was drawn from. Now, I'm going ask you a simple question. Who would you meet? And be be honest with me. >> I am. >> Who is it? >> DC. The guy that gave me the check name. DC. That's all. >> That's all you know him? That's all you know about? >> Yes, sir. >> He's supposed to meet you over to McDonald's. >> No, he's over at the shop at Tai City. >> Over at Tai City. >> Where's T City at? >> Right there on McDonald from McDonald's and Sh convenience store. >> So, how'd you get over here? I go bicycles. >> Okay. >> So, where your bicycle at now? >> Right in front of Mr. B. >> He said DC apparently works at Mike. >> Yeah, that's all. That's the only thing I know him about. >> Okay. Start up this way. >> Yes, sir. >> You going to be in route for for during the first and >> help with anything? >> I can give her the CRN card for you. >> Yeah, that'll work. I got to pull a um Hey, how you doing? This is Officer Jones with the Savannah Police Department. How are you? >> Fine. How are you? >> Uh, you got a call from Regent's Bank earlier? >> Yes, I did. >> Uh, I just need your information for my report cuz the gentleman got locked up and I'm having to do a report for it. Right. How about how many checks did you have stolen? >> About how many what? >> How many checks did you have stolen? >> Well, apparently I'll tell you. I noticed that I couldn't find that particular check number >> not too long ago. You know, this is a business account. >> I got you. >> And there were a few check I we have a payroll company that issues, you know, checks or does direct deposits and I have a few employees that, you know, don't, you know, don't have direct deposit and I write them checks. So, that's one aspect of it. Mhm. >> And then there's, you know, we have we have an alcohol, we have a wine and beer beer license, and we have to write checks directly to those companies because they can't, you know, that's legally the way they have to operate. >> The owner says he noticed that specific check number was missing about 2 weeks prior. He runs a business that uses both a payroll service and handwritten checks for certain vendors and employees. >> So, I write checks to them, you know, hand checks, >> right? So those are those are mostly the checks I write. But I did notice that particular check number missing when I was writing some checks. I can't remember how long ago but not more than maybe two weeks ago. >> Mhm. >> And and so somehow that check I think it was 151. >> Yes. >> Was was uh >> got in the wrong hands. >> Yes. >> I'm not sure how you know. >> Yeah. if that if that helps. >> It it does. I mean, the gentleman that had it is now um having a free vacation stay by the Chattam County Detention Center. >> Okay. Uh now, this gentleman, what else can you tell me about him at that, you know, legally? And >> uh well, from what he said, he received the check from another individual. Um, of course they gave some type of street name for the individual and expressed that the person was going to give him $100 if he cash the check. >> The individual was homeless that had it. >> The individual what? >> The individual that had the check was homeless. >> Oh, homeless. Okay. Now, we had I I don't want to really I don't want to, you know, I don't want to name somebody as a person that did it because I I really don't know. But we had we had a lot of homeless people hanging around >> Mhm. >> the uh restaurant for quite some time. Some of them knew each other. >> Mhm. >> And then we had one individual who uh did dishwashing for us that at one point I you know I had to write him a check because you know he didn't have direct deposit and then he said he couldn't cancel the check. And I mean, it's only possible and I I want to underscore only possible that at one point the check that I miss was missing might have got into an envelope for payment to, you know, one of these individuals. But >> he expresses concern, but cooperates fully with officers, confirming that the check had not been authorized. >> What can I do to help? I mean, >> uh, you you you've done enough, sir. I just needed that information. >> All right. And then the bank called me today and I I have to go somewhere tomorrow morning till sometime after 12:00 and I'm going to go back into the bank tomorrow. So if you want to call you when I get there if you need any kind of >> I didn't need any other information which you told me is more than enough to put in this report. Like I said the uh individual that had it was arrested. >> Okay. All right. Well, call me if you need anything else. Okay. >> All right. The man is ultimately arrested and charged with forgery and counterfeiting. Number four, she thought a fake card could buy a $12,000 real Rolex. Police respond to a call from a pawn shop after a woman tries to purchase a Rolex watch using a fake identity and stolen credit card. Let's take a look at what happens next. >> You guys call us. Did you guys call? >> Yeah, we just trying to spam us. >> How? >> What do you got? What's going on? >> I don't have nothing. What's the card? >> 35 and 25 with all parties. What card do you have? >> Like why do they think it's >> driver license? When I scan it, it came out to different name and address. >> All right, let me take a look. What's your name? >> Ma'am, >> what's your name? >> H >> my name. >> Your name? >> This is your driver's license. >> Is the address on it? Correct. >> And what is that address? >> Okay. Why are they saying this isn't coming up? What's going on? >> I have no idea. Okay. What's your date of birth? >> Okay. >> Do you have any other driver's license in your states? >> All right. Just give me try to figure out what's going on. Okay. >> Okay. >> All right. >> So, can I leave? I have >> No, you can't. You're being detained right now. >> Okay. Well, I have waiting for me outside. >> Okay. You're being detained right now. >> What does that mean? >> That means you can't are not free to go anywhere. >> Okay. >> 35 clear, too. >> Can I talk to you guys? >> You good for a second? >> D. >> Hey, how's it going, guys? While the woman is detained, the officer talks to the store manager to get a clearer picture of what happened. >> What's going on? >> So, she came in with a plan to purchase a Rolex watch >> and uh she tried to use a fake ID and the credit card name matching to fake ID. When I scanned the ID, came out different name and others in my system. So, I figured she's trying to scam us. >> Mhm. I think she's working with somebody. She texting to some maybe she had like a boss on top. >> Did you give the IDs back to >> I gave it to police officer? >> Okay. Give it to them. Okay. So, what was she How much was she supposed to be purchasing this one? >> 12,300 to purchase of the Rolex watch. >> So, she came in for 12,300. What kind of Rolex was it? >> It's a Rolex Submariner. >> What was it? >> Rolex Submariner. >> Submariner. >> Submariner. >> Okay. And then she presented you What kind of ID was it? It's a don't remember but your >> Okay, I mean I'll take a look at it. You don't remember what state it was out of anything like that. You said it looked like her but when you ran it the address was different. >> Address and name was different when I scan it bar code on the back. >> Okay. All right. Let me go take a look at it. Yep. >> So for example, what is in our system? Kimberly Harrison >> and the ID itself >> Miranda which matching the card. Okay. >> And completely different address. And the ID is so weird. >> Okay. Let me take a look at it. Was this the watch that she was supposed to be buying here? >> This one. >> That one. Okay. >> Ma'am, can you stay off your phone, please? >> Okay. Well, I'm letting somebody know the situation. >> What's that? >> I'm letting somebody know the situation. >> What's the situation, though? >> The situation? >> What's that? >> Cops. >> Cops? What? I don't know. >> I told her she's detained right now. The deal is not coming back is anything. >> Okay. So, ma'am, >> stay with your phone. Okay. >> All right. I need you just have a seat over here and I need to read something to you before we talk. >> Officers proceed to reading the woman's Miranda rights before questioning her. >> Okay. These are your rights. You you speak English fully and understand it. >> Okay. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can or will be used against you in the court of law. You have the right to talk to a lawyer and have him or her present while you are being questioned. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent you before any questions if you wish. You can decide at any time to exercise these rights and not answer any questions. You understand that? >> Okay. So, what's going on? >> I'm here to buy a watch. >> Okay. So, you came in to buy the the Rolex watch? >> Yeah, that's it. >> Okay. >> So, what's the process like? Am I Are you guys going to like >> So, you're being detained right now because >> you're not free to leave. >> So, am I going to jail? >> That's That's the process we're going through. That's why I'm asking you questions so I can figure out what's going on because I can't just come into a situation and arrest you. Right. >> Right. >> Okay. So, can I see those? Okay. So, you came in and you presented these two things to them, correct? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Do you have any documentation that has your right information on it? >> No. >> Okay. And who is this on the driver's license? >> That's me. >> This is you. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> So, you're telling me that your name is Emily? Emily rem Miranda. >> I'm not saying anything. >> Okay. >> There's nobody name. >> What's your date of birth? >> It's on my ID. >> Okay. So, you understand how this is becoming kind of suspicious at this point because you don't even know what your ID your date of birth is. >> Okay. And what is your name and your address? >> Okay. >> With a fingerprint scanner for Alpha 35. >> Just hang out with her for a minute. I want to see what their system came back with. Okay. >> Nothing. >> The woman continues to deny wrongdoing, claiming she's just there to make a legitimate purchase. Officers explained that if the ID and credit card are fake, she will be arrested. much easier if we knew exactly who you were because this isn't looking good right now. And if you go up to county jail as a Jane Doe, you're going to stay up there a lot longer. >> Okay. So, what are you guys taking to jail? Yes or no? I understand it. >> Well, as of right now, that's a fraudulent driver's license. >> So, what's it was an arrestable offense. So, do you say that? I'm sorry. [Music] >> It is. >> All right. So, we're getting somebody with a fingerprint scanner to come get your real ID. Unless you want to tell it to me. That would make it so much easier on all of us and you be cooperative, which would be much better for you. >> Take a picture. >> Oh, can I send a text message? >> Nope. >> Yeah. We'll go ahead and take that then. >> Actually, no. >> Well, you're being detained and we already asked you don't be on your phone. >> I'm not on my phone. I >> You just said, "Can you send a text message?" I said, "No." >> Okay. And >> so, let's not pick up your phone. >> Did you see a text message? I didn't. >> Which one's your Uber outside waiting for you? >> I mean, if I'm not going to take it, then does it really matter? >> Sure it does. I'll let him know. >> I'm pretty sure he's already gone. >> Okay. So, is this is that the story you're sticking with that this is your real ID? This is your real name. This is your real date of birth. Mhm. >> Yes. I actually don't have nothing else to say. >> You don't have nothing else to say? >> No. >> All right, just hold that for a second. Stand up for me for a second. You're just being detained as of right now. I'm just going to put you in handcuffs. Okay. [Music] All right, just have a seat for a second until the other officer gets here. Okay. >> Meanwhile, an Uber driver arrives outside the store to pick her up. Officers speak with him and confirmed that she won't be leaving with him. >> Hey, are you Uber by any chance? >> Yes. >> Who are you who are you waiting for? >> Lima. >> What's her name? >> Perfect. >> Uh long dark hair. >> Oh, the girl. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Lena. >> Okay. What's What's the name you have for her? >> Here, write it down. >> Oh, Lena. Do you have like her first and last name or her? >> Take a look at G107. >> Yeah. Where did she uh >> Hey, give me all the answ where she come from. >> Where'd you pick her up at? >> Which one? >> We >> Oh, you're just picking her up. >> Yeah. Yeah. Picking her up. >> [ __ ] There's a sub problem. >> Yeah. Yeah. She's not going to be coming with you. She'll be coming with us. >> Oh, >> all right. So, I don't know how you'd go about that fair. >> Get out of here. Go pick up some more fairs. Make some more money. >> All right. Thank you. [Music] Talk to your Uber guy. You uh have your information. You want to verify it or you want to play this game? >> You um >> I just said I don't have >> You never use it. Just cuz this thing >> Okay. Just cuz I mean that's her name. Lena, >> that's the name of the neighbor. >> Oh, like I said, you already have a I mean, I'm not going to ask you any more questions cuz you already said you wanted to to exercise your rights, but I'm just saying you already have a fraudulent ID here, so it's already going to be an arrest. >> Probably the credit card, too. >> Yeah, I mean, that's I'm just telling her this is the start of it. >> And then when the fingerprint scanner gets here and they fingerprint you, we'll figure out who you are and then we'll go from there. Okay. After scanning her fingerprints, police identify her and learn her actual name. With her real identity confirmed, she refuses to answer further questions. >> Where do we go for the first name? >> Your last name. >> Sound about right. >> Does it come back with ID for battery by lakes? See the L number pierce back to left hand. >> I don't know which way left is. No, that's right. No, that's left. >> Now that the truth is out in the open, she's formally arrested and taken into custody. >> All right, you can sit. Do you have anything on you that's going to poke us, stick us, or anything like that that we need to know about? >> No. >> All right, you are under arrest. Stand up. >> Carry for now. >> Earring, belly button piercing. Anything else? No other piercings. >> You want to get those piercings out at the in booking? >> Yeah, >> I'll looked up there. Put that down there. >> I probably since you're taken out. >> All right. Thank you. >> Thank you very much. She's ultimately charged with fraudulent use of a credit card, possession of a fake ID, and giving a false name while being lawfully detained. Number three, from grandma's boy to grandma's con man. Police visit a man's home after receiving a report from his grandmother who believes he used her debit card without permission to withdraw funds. Here's what happens next. how he would get access. That's a different one. It's close. [Music] >> Come here. Go. >> Hey, Brandon. How you doing, man? >> I'm bad. How you doing? >> I'm all right. I'm officer McCall. This is Officer Zavala. We got body cams on. I wanted to talk to you about an incident. You might be aware of it already. Um, >> do you want to talk with your daughter here? >> That's fine. >> That's fine. Okay. >> Um, essentially about your grandma's debit card that you were using. >> Can you explain, I guess, how you got the card? when she gave it to me. >> She gave you a card? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> That was like two weeks ago. >> Okay. Why'd she give you a card? >> So I can use it to basing my stuff off cuz I'm going to give her some money to put in her account, too, so I can get a hold of my cash. >> Okay. Um, you think your grandma would lie? >> I mean, she's been going through it, so I don't know. But I mean, she gave me her card. I gave her card back. It was like last week, I think. Okay. Um, so how much did you take or how much did she say that you could have? >> It was like five $500 in there >> that she said you're you're good to go withdraw or whatever. >> Yes. >> Okay. Um, how long did you have the card? I >> think for a week and a half. >> Okay. And then what did you do with the card? >> Gave it back to her. >> Okay. Um, you just gave it back to her. >> I gave it back to her. Yes. at her house or >> at her house. >> Okay. Um, is Chris aware of all this? Because I think Chris lives with her, right? >> My dad. Yeah. >> Yeah. Is he aware of all this? >> I'm not sure. >> Okay. Um, cuz I'm getting a very different story from everybody else. >> The man is cooperative as officers approach and he claims that she willingly gave him the card two weeks earlier. However, the officers present a different story. I >> didn't know there was stories going around. >> Yeah, that's that's kind of why we're here. Um, grandma never gave you the card. Grandma's saying she absolutely did not give you the card. She didn't even know who took all the money out of her account. >> She gave me the card cuz I was giving her my money to put in her bank account. >> Why would you give her money to put in >> So I can save my money and not spend my money. >> You can't put it like in your own account. >> I mean, I do, but then I'll usually just blow it on dumb stuff. So that's why I don't have my money to buy access. >> Okay. So then if you're trying to save money, why then would she just give you a card for you to go? >> Take something out so I can get stuff for her, too, cuz her birthday's tomorrow. >> Okay. Um, with everything else in the video and you took more than $500. >> Pretty sure it was five or 600. >> No, there's more than that. Double that and keep going. all the ATM transactions >> that much. >> Trust me. No, I I understand. Um I've got all the transactions. I've got video um pictures of what vehicles you're you're pulling up in the Ford Edge and all that kind of stuff. Okay. Um at this time, you're going to be placed under arrest for fraud. >> Okay. >> Really? >> Yes. There's probable cause for your arrest for fraud. So, you should probably hand your daughter to whoever's in >> we can make some phone calls, but it's not going to be right off the bat. Okay. Well, I just want to let her know since tomorrow's her birthday. >> You're going to be out. You're going to be out in an hour. >> I'm not getting out tonight. >> Yeah, you are. >> Illinois. >> Last time I went down there, they had me in there till Monday. >> Yeah, because it was a warrant for manufacturing delivery. This is different. Okay. >> I'm going to have to bond out, aren't I? >> No, there's no bond. It's literally a notice to appear. >> That's here. Jaden, >> you're fine. >> Come get her. >> What's up, puppy dog? >> Yep. Why >> grandma when she in her yard and now I'm I don't know. Take her. >> Who are you on the phone with? >> Mom. >> Here. >> The man is visibly disappointed but remains respectful. He hands his daughter over to his wife before being taken into custody. >> He'll be out in about an hour and be able to come back down here. >> Yeah. It's not one that he's got to stay. Yep. You're right. >> And he will be out. >> Yes. This is not a detainable offense. >> Yep. It's a nonviolent felony. >> All right. We'll step down here. >> Yep. I'm going to pat you down and I'll let you put the sweatshirt on. So, obviously, this is all going to go to court. It's going to play out there. But even outside of that, this is a little bit of a different situation than I typically have. Okay. All right. Your grandma is absolutely brokenhearted right now. >> Okay. She when when they reached out over a week ago, actually not over a week ago. I'm sorry. It was only three or four days ago. >> I literally >> she truly had no idea who was taking money. Her card was gone. Is still gone. Nobody knows where it's at. Shannon obviously helps her with Listen, I'm not I know >> I'm I'm just trying to explain a little bit about how we got here because I think that it's important. Okay. Again, this is not a normal situation. This is family. >> Yes. >> Okay. Um your grandma wants the best for you. Your grandma feels like you've been going down a path that isn't the best. >> I've been trying to. >> And she feels like she doesn't want you to think that you don't have anybody. >> Yeah. cuz she wants to be there for you. And she was 20 minutes ago in absolute tears at the Bloomington Police Department talking to me. She said she loves you. She asked me to tell you that she loves you. And regardless of this situation, she still loves you. She's in fact told me she's like, "He's going to be there at the birthday party, right? He will be out by the birthday party, right? He has to be out by the birthday party, right?" She's like, "He has a daughter. Like I don't She feels that this is the only way to get your attention." The officer emphasizes that his grandmother is not trying to punish him, but hopes the incident leads to lasting change. She expresses concern for his well-being and hopes he avoids going further down a self-destructive path. >> Yeah. because she feels like nothing else has worked and she is praying that the court will give you some kind of some kind of probation or rehab where you have somebody who you're accountable to and they they keep track of all that, you know, they keep track of you and they help get you back on the right track. And that's what she >> trying to do. I just went to the guy that they're dated to go start going to school next week so that's some stuff she was talking about. She said she wants you to get a job or go to school and start bettering yourself. You got I don't know how many kids. She didn't tell me how many kids. She just said kids. >> Yeah, that's too. >> Yeah. She truly loves you. I've never seen somebody in a situation like that. >> Um >> cry like that to the police. >> Yeah. >> Okay. She wants what's best for you. Um please don't blame her for any of this cuz she's blaming herself. >> She's like, "Well, maybe if I I would have helped him more, given him more, done more for him in this." And she's like, "Maybe then he wouldn't have wouldn't have done this." and she's just going around and around and around and I told her in the end again I work on probable cause but based on what I have I told her everyone is responsible for their own actions and then I hope that moving forward everything that grandma is saying is going to come true and that you're going to be able to get the help that you need and kind of be able to stand on your own two feet move forward and not you said you're spending your money on stuff >> I don't want you spending your money on stuff I don't want being involved none of that kind of stuff. That's the I can't afford to mess up that bad at all. That's >> I do that again, it's over with. >> I get it. So, I'm not going to drag this out or anything, but I just wanted to have that brief conversation with you. We're going to go down to the county. Um, you're going to get a notice to appear with the court date. Uh, it's going to be probably early Decemberish. Um, >> so I'm going to have to go and sit and probably jpot again or something or >> No, no, no. You're going to be out tonight. Like, it it's literally you're not even going to have to change. Justice caught up, landing him with a felony fraud charge exceeding $1,000. Number two, fake nurse treats thousands before being caught.
