when shoplifters think they're clever the police always prove them wrong here are five times when dumb shoplifters try to outsmart the police number five police bust shoplifters and expose their credit card fraud scheme a couple tries to shoplift $400 worth of tools from a store thinking they can get away with it but things quickly fall apart here's what happens when officers confront Amy and hand to the officers press on with our questioning Gathering all the crucial details for the case so then you lost that job so then you came here today to no no no no I started a job Wednesday I lost him like hey man I don't have any tools I know I'm supposed to have them but I times are hard I lost my apartment we have a mobile Outreach team too sometimes they can help people get stuff yeah so and then can we get their number yeah I can give you guys their info and then uh do are you two married dating like what's your guys' relationship you're together okay obviously it's a lot of stuff it's like $400 worth of stuff so you guys are going to be under arrest for theft so I was the one walking out with it put the stuff in the Bucky but you were both walking out with the stuff correct were they both they were both together he had all the but I I'm the one that everything up she didn't touch okay okay so first I'm going to ask for you sir to go ahead and stand up and face away from with me right now and you're like yeah you know made a mistake here's what happened then when a judge sees that I'm sure they look much more yeah I don't want to my have you ever been uh arrested before radio appr and you yeah I am who in Washington what in Washington okay who's watching before that was I lost him I to get him back for 3 years and I got him back oh gotta this is not good and then so I got to search you so I'm just going to have you place the car right here yeah then go ahead and wind your s for me what's schol after the couple is thoroughly searched they're escorted into the patrol car and you don't have any narcotics or anything on you I'm asking if you do you know if they find you add another charge and I don't want that to happen I so I don't think I do cuz we're trying to get every opportunity you know you have I know that's why I'm trying to change Pockets I don't have nothing on me besides pocket you don't have anything on you you're fine I'm just letting you know cuz you know if they find it and on you process it's another charge that's a fon well we would notify the school that way they can know where to what to do if you have like an emergency check your bra line with bomb in my hand I just asked cuz they get mad at us and you can get additional chars you know you have narcotics in the jail that's why I always ask people can um can we call to pick him up because she will be going to jail okay so now we have several problems m one there's a 100 million different IDs of different people a Social Security card in someone else's name a bunch of credit cards in other people's names all in your purse yeah I found them at um at this truck stop that we stopped at and I was going to mail them back to that address I don't believe that I don't believe that you found credit cards and people's IDs and you're going to find Postage and you're going to mail them back you didn't just you need literally take them into the post office hey I found this on the road I didn't know that and then here's the other thing where are all these from what is all this where are all these gift cards from I got them for um my birthday and then what's that little baggie of white crystal substance you found in your bag prob so why didn't you tell me that because here's the thing if that would have gone to the jail you would have gotten another charge I didn't think I didn't think I had anything in there I didn't think I here's the thing you're telling me I didn't think I did oh I was going to do that and then all these things are stacking up against you that are proving you're wrong that's why you got to be honest with me and you got to say Hey listen I do have in my bag okay we'll log it we'll destroy it but now I'm going to not in my report oh she said she didn't have it now I found me back I also found a bunch of different IDs a social security guard card credit cards do you think if I look this person up they'll say oh my wallet was stolen I mean I don't know like I like I found those I found those stop that we stopped at I Amy scrambles to explain the IDS and credit cards in her possession but the officer just isn't convinced in a fairy tale world and you're not lying to me that you didn't try to use these people's credit cards no I didn't no I didn't you go to a police station you turn them in you go to a post office you turn them in you don't no reasonable person will keep a St know that we we just stack of credit cards 9 we just got back this morning and where are these from they're from um like I got possession of illegal substances and potentially for identity theft both are banned from Home Depot for a year number four police catch woman red-handed after $800 grocery theft a well-known shoplifter attempts to returned to the scene of the crime at a Safeway store just one day after stealing $800 worth of groceries the store staff recognizes her and calls the police knowing she has a the other side she's clearly looking around I see get it she bypasses all the registers and she walks out as the investigation unfolds the officers prepared to take the woman into custody for the shoplifting and her outstanding warrants that's going to bind and hurt [Music] can we at least when we go when we drive down can we at least put them in the front no we can't we have they have to be in the back we could we could potentially change you over to chain cuffs instead of the hinged ones those are a little more comfortable but we'll see okay Kelsey I got to read you this real quick okay cameras I don't know how it got in there okay and was your purse in that little seat area the whole time or was in the little seat area yes rather than take responsibility she shifts the blame entirely onto her granddaughter how long would you say that you lost a visual of your purse your whole time I don't know I I was looking at stuff trying to see check prices and and and figure out what I was going to get and probably at some points it might have been for a little while but best was there by my purse so I don't know okay [Music] okay I mean technically dumb stuff except for what she was doing I had no clue she was steing alcohol I don't even know what that is like I said I don't drink okay did you see her at any point her first I did not it sounds like when they were trying to my daughter was with her so she actually was concealing in a purse as well so it it was separate events at the same time if that makes sense so she had stuff in her purse and then there was stuff on another purse there there there is surveillance of her concealing as well she admitted to concealing okay I sometimes when I personally me I'm not trying to make excuses for anybody else sometimes when I don't have a cart in my hand to I'll put stuff in my own bag but I'll pay for it when I get to the counter yeah know she she said she was shop looking and um obviously you can extrapolate from that with Grandma obviously I can't talk about that but you can kind of take it from there your own imagination about it um but so what's going to happen tonight is that she's going to be taking uh taking to Durango which is down mhm um hopefully she'll learn a lesson from that talking about my daughter yes so here's a deal man even if she was doing what you're saying which is not too consistent you know your mother better than anyone I do and I don't know why my mom would do that that's the thing like she has her social security she lives with me and she doesn't have to pay any the build there I mean she buys food and stuff on her social security to help out but I mean I make plenty of money to pay all the bills there and let them pretty much keep their social security check so I don't know why she we honestly couldn't tell you both the grandmother and granddaughter are arrested for shoplifting with the grandmother also facing charges for resisting arrest number two shoplifter fakes injury to avoid arrest fails miserably a woman shoplift two bags of goods from a Walgreens thinking she can outsmart the police however things quickly spiral out of control after receiving a
