Every shoplifter thinks they can outsmart the system until the cameras tell the real story. Here are five cases of the worst shoplifterss ever captured on police body cam. Number four, Universal Studios trip ends badly for Shoplifter. A woman is spotted by Loss Prevention stealing a fanny pack from a store inside the park. She places it on a stroller and walks out without paying. Officers are called to the scene to sort out what happened. >> This is ridiculous. You guys take me back to the next money back. That's all. >> I'm not going in the office though, sir. You got to go sit in the office for I got to go. I got you catching everything, bro. That's all I'm trying to disrespect you. What's going on, bro? I can't go in the office though. >> I can't for you to come to this office. Listen, >> my lady I got at least let my lady at least Okay, sir. Sir, you got at least let me let my lady she was at the same store I was at. Okay. So, listen. [Music] If not, then you're going to have to repeat and that's something we don't like. All right. What you're saying this, like I said, it was supposed to be just a conversation, but I have to do that. Just just listen to me. Listen to me. I understand you're not mad at me. I understand you're very upset right now. Okay? We're going to be real here. I'm not playing games. I need something that's not paid for. You're in touch of this office. Listen to me. Is I said good. We're going to have a conversation. I don't want to involve them. Okay? I want to keep this between you and me. All right? Just listen to me. Have a seat. Please have a seat. >> This guy got to ask some questions. >> No, the You have the red. You understand that? >> Yes or no? >> Okay. >> Anything you say? Maybe you get some in court. You understand that? >> Once her Miranda writes a red, they begin asking questions. >> You guys, my niece wasn't there. I did grab a couch, but my sister was yelling. So, as I walking out the couches, my hand walked out. and feel I guess one of the kids right but they but like I told her I only have two boys this is not my kid stroller my boys watch my son is old enough so all the stuff in I don't know who came for what I can't say that because some walking with my sister so I can't say but I guess >> but you were pushing this stroller the hat everybody was pushing it I was pushing it he was pushing she was pushing as y'all walk the captain in the park all of us pushing the shoulder >> okay yeah I had push I had grabbed cuz my sister had a baby so I had to grab And we was he got there first and I had grabbed it from him. >> Gotcha. So you were pushing it out of the store when they stopped you. >> Yeah, we pushed it. We all pushing around. I was already at the store around when she stopped. >> So you already outside the store when they stop >> and then So you don't know how the >> That's why I'm telling her I can't state all that because like I say, every kid is in here. >> What the kids ran up and did like they walked in the store. I wasn't there. I cannot tell you about my kids. Do you know where were you at when they were when this troll was in the store? >> What you mean? >> Like where were you said you weren't with them. You don't know what the kids were grabbing and stuff. >> I say all them was running around. When she you could tell when you looked in the store when I was in the store the thing was empty. But none of them it was empty. The kids was running around the store when we was looking for my other little niece. Everybody all them got in that. >> So you don't know how the stuff got in there? >> That's what I'm saying. No, I didn't put it in there. Okay. You did. I'm just asking if you know how it got in there. Like I thought it was her girl. The little girl grabbed what she when he did little girl grab her thing back from her. >> All the kids. >> Okay. Okay. >> She insists on her side of the story, but police point out that taking a stroller past the registers with unpaid items is theft. The store looks over the details and confirms they want to press charges. >> Can you walk over here for me real quick? Right. Unfortunately, they're pressing charges against you. So, you're going to be placed under arrest today. Okay. >> What they charges all >> Well, she said she'll say that's her stuff. >> The child and kid of my hand. >> Are yours like my car? Is there anything in the bag right here? >> My wallet and stuff. [Music] >> She ain't get my ID. I need my ID back, too. >> Yep. >> Where you from? >> My flight today. >> Who's got your kids? You got kids? >> Yeah. >> Who's got your kids right now? >> With who? With >> my sister. >> With your sister. Your sister's an adult. Yeah. >> Is that all the belongings you had was in there? >> Yes. >> Place the police station. >> The police station. So, you're going to the jail? You're going to the county jail. You're not going to the police station. You're being arrested for petty theft of $100 or more. >> All this stuff. It wasn't even my stuff. >> So, they can't watch the camera to see I wasn't pushing the stroller all through the park. I I don't know if they already did, >> but they're los prevention and they're undercover detectives. >> Saw you. So, >> do I have to see on Monday? >> Uh, it depends on when they have a first appearance with the judge. >> You'll be able to bond out. >> They might have one late tonight or early tomorrow. Depends. >> The officers break down her charges and walk her through what will happen moving forward. >> You'll be able to bond. What's the bomb? 500. >> Yeah, 500. You don't have to have your >> I do your phone. >> It's off. >> Is it dead or is it just off? >> So, it just depends how soon they have first appearance. If they have one late tonight or early tomorrow, then you you can bond out right away. If not, then you will have today. >> Yep. >> So, $100 to a bond. >> $100 to a bond. This way. >> We're going that way. >> Well, my car's there. >> Yeah, it goes around. >> Okay, you take Hang, right? You know, you ready? >> Just cut through here. I'm sorry. >> How far? >> I'm sorry. >> How far is it coming? >> About 10 minutes. 5 10 minute drive. It's not far. You ever been arrested before? >> Yeah. >> For what? >> Okay. 12. 12. Popo. >> What have you been doing, girl? >> Years ago. >> Years ago when you were young and dumb. Yeah. >> All right. How old are you now? >> 23. I mean 22. >> 32. That's what I say. 23. So, I got to follow. >> Yeah, they'll take care of all that jail once you get put in. And since you already done all the paperwork for you, we're literally going to show up. I'm going to get you out of the car. I'm going to go up to the desk. They're going to check you in. And then you'll be at You'll probably only be there for about 15 minutes in handcuffs. We'll have you taken out right here to the wheel. Face the car for me. >> How long? Will I be for my flight? >> I don't know. >> I don't think you'll be able to get out. Like I said, I don't know their schedule for the hearings. So, it depends how soon you can get a hearing with with the judge for the appearance. >> The what? >> What the what? >> Yeah, I got you. Cool. That's easy. >> She's escorted to a transport unit and taken in for booking. Her belongings are gathered and officers explain she could post bond once the court processes her case. >> Look inside. There's nothing in there, right? All right. All right. Go ahead. Step. I'll put the windows down so they get you buckled in. >> They're not comfortable. All right. >> Like I said, it's a quick ride, so we'll be there. Don't worry about getting too comfortable cuz there shortly. >> You got the jur. Did you grab the direct? Oh, okay. >> Is it on desk? >> Yeah, it's on the desk. All right. I already filled it out. I do assign it. >> Cool. Appreciate it. >> You ask a question. >> No, I just want to call my phone to be scheduled my flight or something. >> Yeah. Yeah. Um, you'll be be able to get on your phone. I don't exactly know how long, but your process is going to be a lot faster than a normal process. And the jail um because I don't work inside the jail, I can't tell you exactly what they're going to say and going to do. Um, but they'll they'll be taken care of here shortly. >> The ball doesn't catch my flight by 11:00. >> 11:00. >> I don't know. I don't want to say yes or no. I think so. >> Um, I I just I don't want to tell you yes if it's a no. So, >> what happened? You were pushing the stroller and >> Yeah. And she it wasn't even mine. It wasn't even my kids. And they got to look on the camera cuz he always wasn't pushing it all day. But the problem is if you had the stroller and you were pushing it past the point of sale, >> it's like driving a stolen car. Don't matter if your friend just gave it to you if you're the one driving it. I mean, it's, you know what I'm saying? It's if you don't question where all this stuff come from. >> Even my kids. >> Yeah. >> She was waiting on me at the gate, but they told her I was coming out. Officers arrested her for petty theft of more than $100, which totals $66965. Number three, this shoplifter thought she could outsmart Walmart. Walmart loss prevention spots a woman hiding merchandise in her purse. She leaves the store and tries to drive off with her boyfriend's family, but police catch them before they exit the parking lot. Here's what happens when officers approach the vehicle. >> I can't roll my window down. >> What is it? [Music] >> Okay. My name's Al Chai Police Department. Okay. Hey, the reason why I stopped you is because loss prevention was apparently watching her in the store. When I passed you, >> they didn't give me a real good information there. I would have stopped you there. Okay. So, apparently she has some items that she didn't pay for. >> These? >> No, I'm going to say it's not the uh pepperonis. Uh, he listed a jacket, a bra. >> Here's a jacket. >> Did you pay for the jacket? >> No. >> Okay, >> there. That's what he's asking you. >> So, the jacket. What else? >> I didn't even notice you didn't have to hold me. >> What? >> How you Is that it? >> What else? >> Okay. I can't roll. I'm sorry. >> What else? Is there anything else? >> He wants to >> You can open up that door. >> Yeah. Open the fuses blow or something. It does that sometimes. >> Okay. This it brawl. >> No, I'll put it back. >> You put the bra back. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Do you have an ID? Driver's license of anything. Just >> a picture ID. >> Sure. Don't drive away. Don't run me over. >> Oh, no. We're not going nowhere. Sorry. I got a paper ID somewhere. >> There it is. Yep. >> Go do it. >> We need the receipt for our stuff. >> Did you guys You guys paid for everything? >> Yeah. >> Everything in the receipt. >> We got a duck. We like >> We got it up. We got our machine. >> They quickly discover all the items she had stolen, confirmed them with store staff, and learned she had taken even more than she originally admitted. Short cape. said she put the bra back. >> The bra hangers I got. It's empty. >> So she put it back. I don't know where she dropped that. So she put it back. I don't know why she would give me the shirt and the shorts and not the bra. She hand it all over to me as soon as I walked up there. >> 23. We ask her where she dropped the bra at. >> Uh near the shoes, I think. >> She says near the shoes. She said she thinks >> I don't know. >> Near the shoes. receipt for this. Okay. >> She's got a Cincinnati shirt, too. >> So, that was it. >> See if she see if she dumped it. >> Ask her if she has a Cincinnati shirt or she dropped it also. >> I was just about to call you. You want her to come in the store and show you? >> Well, I mean, is it in her purse or no? >> I mean, she's saying no, but >> can you see it anywhere? >> Here. Where's your purse at? [Music] >> Yeah, you better get there. >> What? >> I mean, yeah, there's a bra in here. >> What kind of bra was it? Does it matter? I mean, >> go where? >> Where's the tag on? >> XXL black cross sports bra. >> Brand a heavy. Yes. >> Yep. That's it. >> Okay. >> Um, you want me to bring her in? >> Tell them they need to wait. >> There's a pair of red shorts in here as well. What else? >> Yeah, just bring bring her bring her up here. >> All right. All right. Go ahead and for me. >> All right. Walk back to my cruiser. Walk back to my cruiser. We're going to I'm sorry. No, you're fine. >> All right. She's got the bra. >> Okay. So, >> Cincinnati shirt. >> Cincinnati shirt. System on a red pair of shorts. >> Moments later, they detain her and place her in the patrol car as the investigation continues. >> I watched her conceal the brawl and Cincinnati shirt. >> Okay. >> She made front of >> Okay. Well, you want to go and get the receipt for I guess you need the brawl to get the receipt for that or what? >> Yeah, we'll wait and see what turn around for me. >> I'm going where? Go ahead and turn around for me. Place your hands behind your back like you're praying. All right. Can you place your hands together like you're praying? We're just going to the office. Okay. You're not going to jail or anything. We're going to figure out what's going on. I mean, you were you were being honest there for a little bit. So, what happened? What happened? >> So, you didn't want them to know. Okay. Bring your wrist this way a little bit so they don't hurt you. All right. You have anything on you? Nothing that's going to stab sick me. >> You have a bra? >> Nope. >> No. No bra. >> Nothing. You don't have pockets or anything. >> All right. >> Right here. >> Oh, I'm going to tell them to wait for you. Ouch. [Music] I'm guessing you guys are her ride. >> Yeah. >> You want to just pull up to the front? >> 23. Do you have her? >> Yeah. I'm headed up there now. >> Okay. Well, she got there. She's really starting to piss me off now. >> Yeah, she was being honest. She said she lied because her friends were in the car with her and that's her boyfriend's family. She didn't want them knowing. >> They already knew. >> Wait, those are shorts. I thought they were shorts. >> Sure. Yeah. >> I mean, I'm sure I don't think she stole that. They didn't even sell that one. >> This? >> Yeah, this was it. >> Sell that one. Shoot. >> A further search turns up even more stolen goods, including a jacket and two packs of Fujifilm instant camera film. Brawl this thing. >> Is the Is the bag stolen? >> No, the bag's not. >> That's her. I can always see this. He's here too, I assume. >> Why? >> Like, why? Why give me part of it and not like theft's theft? Like, it doesn't matter whether it's a penny or $999.99. I'm thinking it's the same. Like, what was the point in giving me a shirt and a pair of shorts? >> Cuz my boyfriend's family was in the car and I didn't want them. Well, they already knew obviously cuz when I walked up, you gave me a shirt and a and a sweater. That's all I said. That's not a real good reason. Okay. Well, let me get a total for this stuff. >> You need me? >> I don't think so. >> You're her ride, right? >> Yeah. >> I'm probably going to be a ride. She already pissed me off now. >> Yeah, she lied. >> Yeah. broke number one rule. >> Yeah. >> Um if you just want to stand by for a second. What do you mean? Are you taking her? >> Yeah. >> Oh, okay. Never mind. You're good then. >> Yeah. I want >> the other two are You don't have them on camera, right? >> No, I bought my stuff. >> Okay. >> All right. Thank you. >> Yep. You're good. I forgot about that. Huh? Reality begins to sink in and her panic shifts to dread as she grasps the weight of her actions. Officers coordinate with both store employees and her family to finalize the investigation. >> I barely lasted 3 days in jail. I was like, "Why are you lying?" You were being honest. I don't know why you're lying now. >> She as soon as I Well, I passed her at the door, which was also super annoying because he didn't I don't know where he was at. >> I saw somebody running that way. Was that Don? >> He was out here wandering around. When I come, we passed me and that girl passed each other coming in. I seen she was wearing shorts and she had a black bag. I'm like, "Uh uh. Where's Dawn at though? nowhere to be found. And I come out here and he's like, "She's leaving in the Jeep." In the Jeep. I'm like, "That gold jeep right there?" Yeah. >> It was a blue Jeep. >> So, I went to go get that one. He's like, "No, she's still in the parking lot." Yep. >> Got her phone. >> Yeah. >> Oh, okay. >> That's it, right? >> Yeah. >> Just uh I try to tell her not to lie. You know what I mean? I try. >> Yeah. >> She's 18 and done. You know, >> 19, but yeah, >> whatever. You know what I'm saying? That's my brother's girlfriend. So, >> yeah. Well, she don't have any contacts with us. >> Like, I put her name on her computer and she don't have any contacts with us at all. >> Been in trouble at all. >> Really? It's first time. >> Yeah. Well, she kicked her off. >> Maybe it was scared. >> Yeah. >> I mean, I I had I had full intentions of taking this stuff. >> I knew you did. I knew you did. That's why I tried to tell her. I didn't know she had more in that bag. I said, "Give me that bag. Let me look through it." She >> Yeah. >> All right. Thank you guys. >> Yep. Where'd he go? >> He went through the receipt. Yeah. >> You sure this bag's not stolen? >> He said I saw it. It >> looks kind of new. >> Is there any crusties in the bottom of it? >> Any crusties? >> Not really. Oh, yeah. Not really. Looks new. >> Yeah, that's used. Reeks of cigarette smoke. >> With all stolen items confirmed and recovered, officers proceed with the arrest. >> That's my down here. Crusties. >> Crusties. >> It's all crusties. >> So, what? She took the shorts, the >> the shorts, the jacket, the bra, the two things of Fujifilm, which those are expensive. My daughter has that little camera thing, the instant prints. That smells like weed. Is Dawn hitting the pin? >> I want to say they're like they like 25 bucks a piece, >> huh? >> They're kind of pricey. There's these little camera things on. So, she had those two camera things, the shirt, the bra, the jacket. >> You want to take her? You want me to take >> Oh, no. I got her. >> You want me to report? >> No. Yeah, you start the report. >> It won't take me, but pretty simple. >> I already got it done in my head. >> Yeah. >> Yep. Completed. >> They're called copy and paste. Now, >> I didn't even know they sold those uh jerseys. >> We got a recept. >> That's about what I figured. That's why I said those little camera things are expensive. >> You got her input? >> I do. Not on me, but I do. I can uh get it to you. It's in my cab. [Music] >> All right. Text to you or whatever. >> Okay. >> Yeah. There's uh they're $15 a piece. The films are the shirts out. >> Okay. I was thinking that. Yeah, cuz I >> That's a jersey. >> Yeah. I didn't know they sold those. >> All right. Well, she's going to jail. Thank you. She going to get a mug shot. I don't care if they release her, but there's going to be a mug shot. All right. You're going to be going to that car. >> We're going to get my car up here, which is number 18. [Applause] She's then transported to the station, booked, and prepared for jail. Put your cuffs in your box. ain't never been here before. Uh, nothing concealed on your bra, on your body, anything like that. Okay. You don't even have any contacts in our system. >> I said, you don't even have any contacts in our system. It's a heck of a way to start out here. So, we're going to learn learn a lesson at this point. So, being never been here, I'll kind of explain the process to you a little bit. Uh, they'll come down out here. They want to patch you down and then they'll put you in that little body scanner there to scan your body. Then they'll book you in, take your picture and slide you in one of the cells. Okay, you have court tomorrow morning down here. >> In the end, she's charged with theft. Number two, Karen finds out shoplifting isn't just free shopping. Police respond to a shoplifting call at a Meyer store. When they arrive, they speak with a woman suspected of taking items. >> Well, let's go get the other stuff. >> Some of it's not from here. >> I'm sorry. >> The bag took the bag over. >> That's it. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Got work bags and she really needs to press charges over this. I don't know. I just got here. You saw when I walked in, right? [Applause] >> And because I walk out with the car. How many of you did they send over here? >> Um, I don't know. Maybe two >> for this. >> Uh, yeah. It's a crime. >> Now, I had a blanket in the bag that was already mine. Do they need to have that? >> Ma'am, I don't know. We'll figure it out. Ma'am, do you have another item? If so, >> I have a blanket in my car. >> Was it from here? >> I thought that was the one we were trying to match. I'll pay for it again if it's not. >> Was it? >> Cuz I had one in my car. >> Okay. Was there another one that you pull a tag? >> I didn't pull any tags off anymore. >> Okay. All right. >> But I can I'll pay for it again. I don't want to have to have charges. I will pay for it again. >> We're past that already. So, they're pursuing charges. It's beyond >> for under $100. >> Doesn't matter. It's their call. >> Please. What's your phone number? >> Are you printing the training receipt, >> please? >> Do you have it or not? >> I have a blanket in my car. Yes. >> Was it from here? Can you cut? Was it from here or not? Cuz I'm starting to lose my patience. >> I was Yes. >> Yes, it was. Okay, let's go get it. >> So, is this the one that you took from there? >> I'm trying to be. >> Okay. All right. Just bring it back in with you. >> She says she don't want that. So, it's their call. >> Unfortunately, it's it's their call. >> She insists on paying for the items, but the officers hold firm. They explained that since the store has chosen to press charges, the decision is out of their hands. >> Apparently, you all already had a y'all don't like each other. So, >> I've never been I like I'm not even from the area. Yes, I did a stupid thing, but I'm not >> I get it, but it's their call. We don't have a choice in it. As much as you don't want to deal with it, we don't want to deal with it either. It's Sunday. >> If I didn't want to deal with it, I should have done. >> Yeah. Go ahead. >> How many people do they need? >> Is there going to be a transport or no? >> You're going to arrest me? >> Uh, possibly. >> What? >> That's what happened when a crime is committed. Like, are you Do you not know? [Music] >> We know you can. This is under $100. I had a really I won't come back to your store. Please. This is within your ability. >> Um, >> it's under >> he got his notary stuff. Do you want a transport or you want it to? >> Can I just pay for this? I won't come back. >> I'll do the book and sheet and I'll do the photos >> and send it in to him. >> All right, ma'am. It's not happening. Set that down, please. And we got to take care of some other stuff. >> We don't have all day to deal with this. >> Um, can you send it over here for me? >> Ma'am. Ma'am, can you stand here for me >> and just look straight ahead, please? Uh, you gota remove your glass off top of your head. >> Good grief. >> Great idea. >> Okay. And then can you turn and face that way? >> And then the other side, please. >> She goes through a quick booking process, including photos, but avoids being handcuffed or taken in. She's officially trespassed from the store, meaning if she comes back, she'll be arrested for trespassing. >> Okay. You can go and have a seat. >> No, you're being trespassed. >> You can't come back to this property. >> If you come back, what happens is they have cameras. So whether they stop you at that time or if they are able to provide proof to us that you were here after being trespassed, then it's it's it's grounds for another arrest. >> Okay. >> I didn't pull the tag off of that. around for another one. So, >> what's going to happen is this. Um, you're going to be spared the embarrassment of having to be taken out of here in handcuffs. So, you're going to be given an NTA. All right. It's notice to appear >> and that's >> you're going to press charges on top of the trespassing. >> Absolutely. Like I said, this could be much worse than we can call for transportation van and we can lock you out of here in handcuffs and then you have to go listen to me. Stop. Stop. >> All right. I'm sorry. I'm doing you the favor of not having to take you all the way to the police department. >> All right. >> So, what's going to happen is you're going to be given paperwork. It's going to have your court date on there. You have to go to court that date. All right. >> Yeah. >> If you don't go to court that day, then there's going to be another warrant put out for your arrest. >> All right. >> That's it. >> It's completely up to them. They're pursuing charges. Said and done. Nothing's going to change it. All right. >> It is up to them. >> Exactly. How much was the total? Can I pay for it? >> No. >> Can I know what the total was? >> As soon as we find out how much this blanket is. All right, let's go outside. We got to give you one uh piece of uh paperwork. It's going to have your court date on it and then you guys got to leave. Okay. >> Where you at? >> I'm right behind >> right here. Just let's walk over here, guys. And uh it ended up dude it ended up being a felony, but of course it didn't get approved. It was just a mess. >> Before releasing her, the officers outlined the next steps and remind her to treat this as a lesson. Stand under wet. So essentially, I mean, um, I think it's pretty self-explanatory. Just make sure you guys don't come back here. Um, and then I'm going to give you the paperwork. It's going to have your court date on it. Uh, it's going to be the 22nd of May at 9:00 at the at the uh, DuPage County Courthouse. If you um, you know, like you said, mentioned something earlier about possibly paying a fine or something along those lines. I don't know how that works. You'd have to talk to somebody at the courthouse first. stupid >> to see uh see if they if they if they'd allow that. Um have you ever been arrested before for this? >> Okay. >> I don't even have a >> All right. Well, I mean, if that's the case, they may be able to work something out. Um you may just have to pay a fine. Um or I know that they can arrange something like that once you go to court. So, if you're like a first- time offender and you don't want it on your record, um they do arrange for what? >> Yeah, we we've got a copy of >> you. So, um yeah, that's pretty much it. It was either that or a lot of times typically in these situations we uh we go ahead and just um you know we'd have to call a trans transportation van out here. You get arrested um well you are arrested technically but we put handcuffs on you. You'd have to walk out of the store like that, search you. You have to go to the police department, do the booking and all that nonsense. So um just take it as a lesson learned. Okay. [Applause] Well, I mean, well, it's not like you shot somebody, but hope that you learn from it. >> In the end, the woman is released, cited for misdemeanor shoplifting, and given a court date. Number one, Target shoplifter thought she'd get away with it. Police respond to a Target store after a previously trespassed woman is spotted back on the property. Here's what happens when the officers approach her. >> God, you scared me. >> It's all good. How you doing? >> I'm good. >> You got ID on you? >> No, sir. >> No. >> What' I do? >> What' I do? >> Um, so I believe we had a previous incident a couple weeks ago where you ran out of the store with where you attempted to items. >> So, I had trespassed you that day. >> No, you didn't. No, I don't. No, you didn't. >> I did trespass. >> No, I I wasn't I didn't talk to anybody or anything.
