The reason that we are here is Walmart Lost called us and said that there are some items in here that you did not pay for. That is why we're here. >> I believe I stopped and I'm stopping. That's why we want to walk you in there and see what's going on. >> Uh, no. I'm from New York. I'm not, you know, I have my I don't have my receipt. Okay. >> If I refuse to give you my name, you are arresting me. >> That is correct. for. >> When they ask for her ID, she refuses and demands to know why she's being stopped. The officers calmly warn her that not identifying herself could get her arrested for obstruction. >> For obstructing >> obstructing what? >> Your identification? >> You're not telling us your name? >> Why would I need to tell you my name? >> Because we're investigating a crime right now. And you are the suspect in the crime. >> What's the crime? >> I just told you the crime is retail theft. That is a crime that we are investigating. >> Can you please tell me your name or give me your ID? >> I can wait. My sister lives. >> No, cannot wait. You going You can either tell This is the last time I'm going to tell you. You can either give us your name or you are going to be You are going to be arrested. >> Arrested for what? >> For obstructing a consultant. I'm giving you a lawful order to provide your name in your birthday and your identification. You go put. All right. >> Okay. And then what's your middle initial? >> No. Middle initials. Traditional. What's >> your date of birth? >> I'm going into the car to get you. >> Just tell me your your birth year. Okay. Okay. 14. 140. Copy. One. Last of Common. Or did he leave? >> Did he leave? >> Okay. >> Le Jay Wolf. What is your full name, please? >> Uh, officer. >> Officer. Yep. She comes up with many excuses and expresses concern about returning inside because of alleged inappropriate behavior from Walmart staff during a previous visit. >> Officer Wolf, what is your full name? >> Officer B. Lewis. Okay. Of Fallon PD. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Is this because of the harassment I claim uh across from the neighbor? >> I have no idea what you're even talking All right. So, it was an officer of Voltron. You did the whole thing. I'm the only >> uh I'm going to need to see your ID. Okay. >> I don't have it. >> You don't have your New York ID with you? >> I have I have my New York ID. Did you try her out of New York? >> Huh? >> I'm talking to somebody else. I just >> copy. I have to let that other [ __ ] wallet be. >> Yes, it's expired, but I just um >> I went in for an Illinois license. >> Um I know I have like unregistered tags. I have my whole thing. I have not I have >> 140 copy one by file out of New York. >> I'm sorry. Can I can I >> Yes, sir. >> She can't keep her story straight. switching between saying her cousin or sister paid and that the items were refunded. >> Okay. Do you remember >> um where I technically saw a older guy and he had pictures of my sister and my niece and >> Okay. All right. Just checking this. This has to be I have the receipts. I have my sister. She can come down here. She lives on. So, we don't need your sister, but uh you said you have the receipts. Where? And what what are the receipts for? >> It's a digital receipt for >> Okay. >> Hey, Bo Train. You want this? >> For Bardi. This I got at a gay state. And this I got to get it. Uh this I got at a gas station. Everything is unopen. I got this yogurt. This is for me. I, you know, stomach. >> My my niece, she's a vegan and Oh, under bra. >> Okay. So, uh, here's the deal. Do you have a receipt from Walmart from the information? Uh, >> I have a receipt. It was a refunded receipt. My sister has it. That's why I said my sister will come and bring the receipt. I I exchanged it and then I walked out. I'm cleaning my car and then you guys pull up. I have no qualms about you doing your job. Like, I get it. I'm fine. >> When officers instruct her to return to the loss prevention office, she refuses to cooperate. >> Sweet. >> All right. So, at this point, we need to go inside. If if you're clear, then we want to clear this up and make sure >> I don't want to go back inside. I don't want to go back inside simply because if a loss prevention person, if it's the same guy or woman that was looking at my butt and making inappropriate comments, then no, I don't want to. I'm from New York. I don't need all >> So, what what's the description of the person who is looking at you and making inappropriate comments? >> Both men and women. Well, >> give me a description. Physical description. medium black. Well, I can't say black. She was He or she was male and there was Look. >> All right. So, so at this point, uh, we're we're going to need to go in there. Okay. >> I'm not I'm I'm I'm going to tell you I'm not going back inside. I have done nothing wrong. I've lived here for 9 months. I have nothing. I have a Walmart car and I have Look, >> okay. And and I'm trying to be as nice and respectful as I possibly can. >> And I appreciate that. And I appreciate that from And I appreciate that from all like you. >> Okay. >> And I appreciate that from all of you. I am not a hotheaded crazy. Y'all are just doing your job. Like it is fine. But I have I >> I nothing's open. Like I don't say, "Oh, I'm drinking like >> Okay. So we'll we'll get to that portion when we get to that portion. right now. I just kind of want to figure out what's going on here. Okay. >> Sure. >> Um, so to make that a little bit easier, if we could walk in there and and talk to them. >> No. Uh, >> once I once I walk into that establishment with the stuff and then it doesn't matter if my cousin comes in with her u master card and then says, "Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm >> Why would your cousin have to come back with her master card?" And >> cousin sister. My cousin. >> You said cousin, but >> I did say cousin. I have a million cousins. >> Okay. >> I have one sister that I live here. >> Even with her defiance and inconsistent statements, the officers remain calm and respectful. >> All right. So, why would she need to come back with her master card? What What's going on with that? >> Because I was using it on my phone. >> Sometimes I I'm from New York. Like sometimes it >> I got you. >> I'll wait until y'all people come out with the footage. y'all can confirm the footage and then I can go out of here. Other than that, I'm I'm I'm not going anywhere. I didn't do anything wrong. >> Okay. Do you go by any other names? >> What? >> Well, I'm just asking. Do you go by any other names? >> Okay. Any other legal names that would be associated with your driver's license or anything like that? >> Polus. >> Okay. Okay. Okay. All right. Well, we're going to hang tight right here then. Okay. Uh my supervisor's inside getting video footage and and seeing what's going on in there. Okay. So, here's the deal. Watch this. Watch the video. Okay. It has you in the store picking out the alcohol, right? And then leaving the store without paying for a thing. All on video. That's where we're at. So, right now you are going to be detained for retail theft. >> Okay. >> So, go ahead and turn around for me. Okay. >> That's where we're at. >> Go ahead and turn around for me. >> Can I Can I >> We'll talk through everything here in just a second, but go ahead. I need to put you in handcuffs. Okay. >> Okay. >> All right. So, put your hands behind your back for me. Okay. With a video evidence confirming the theft, she's placed in handcuffs and escorted to the patrol car. >> Guys, what do you think? What? >> That's all right. If you sit back, I'm I'm going to reach. >> No, no, go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. >> Let me get that. >> No, you should just, you know, this is also I'll see my phone real quick. Jesus Christ. I've been there. >> All right. I'm going to turn up the air real quick. Okay. Just so you get some air back there and you don't get too hot. Okay. Ultimately, she's charged with retail theft. Number four, when shoplifting leads to a nationwide ban. A woman named Lori is caught red-handed at Walmart. Officers step in to find out exactly what happened. >> Lori, I'm Sergeant Wire, Dodge PD. I believe we've met before in the past. Um, do you have your driver's license on you? >> Is it just you in the store today? My family's outside. >> Okay. Is it Did they drive you here or did you It's just a question. >> I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I have worked so hard to change my life. I That whole thing with that man yesterday that shot himself put me over the edge and I made a bad decision today. I putting me in jail isn't going to do what you made a terrible mistake here. I won't ever walk back in the store again. >> Okay, that's [clears throat] that's what you said last time. I'm not >> No, I didn't say I wouldn't back in in here before >> if you weren't going to steal again. I mean, >> I know. >> This is the second time. So, clearly the first time didn't sink in either. >> Yeah, but that was a long time ago of 2022. >> Yep. two falls ago. Okay. But you didn't drive here today, correct? You said your family drove. >> No, I don't have a license. >> Yep. I just just wanted to double check as well. >> Um >> I'll give you that back. >> I can take care of the payment by Sunday. >> I I I don't want any of the items here. >> Well, I'm guessing they're going to trespass you as well. That'd be my guess. They're going to make sure you can't enter this Walmart property or any other one. And if you are seen there, then you will be cited or arrested. Okay. Um, and then also like I said, depending [snorts] on the amount will depend on whether you're getting a ticket or whether you're going to jail. That's what I will say. It's entirely up on the amount. We have certain amounts where they the district attorney's office likes us to make arrests and there's other amounts that they prefer us to issue citations. I'm not going to tell you which way that will go because I I need to see the total amount first or a very near uh number to the total amount and then I will be able to to give you a disposition. Okay. >> They verify the total value of the stolen goods with store staff. >> I I understand that you're maybe in a tough time in your life. Um, a lot of things going on, but >> that also doesn't excuse people to break the law. Okay? And I and I and I'm not making light of your situation at all. I just want you to understand that regardless um we still can't have things like this happen. Okay? >> I understand that. I I know it doesn't excuse it. So, like I said, we'll we'll wait for him to get them out here and then um we'll I'll advise you what the disposition will be. Okay. >> You want to open this door really quick? uh harmonies every season. >> Thank you very much. Oh, was it skip scan or just no attempt to pay at all or what was the both and sometimes she just bang stuff. So, okay. We are going to have two trespass. >> Yep. Yeah. Trespass paperwork whenever pass paperwork whenever you're ready 488. You go with the sub total, right? The vortex. Yeah. Okay. The number comes back at $488, high enough to make this a criminal offense. Lori is banned from all Walmart stores across the United States. So this is a notice of trespass war um stating that after being signed today that no longer be provided on any Walmart property in the whole United States. They do share a pretty um significant system with other Walmarts. They do a pretty good job of keeping track of who's who and when they shouldn't be there. So I wouldn't recommend, you know, trying to sneak over to Ply. Like I said, they have a pretty good system of who shouldn't be in the store. So if if you're found, then um that law enforcement agency will either deal with it via arrest or citation. Okay. >> And that's not something they normally do warnings on. It's a it's a done deal. Thank you. >> That's all I got. Obviously, um stuff that paper we're just going to hang on to and then she has to pull stuff. So then that's all paid for. >> Okay. Yeah. Will she be walking out free or heading straight to jail? Let's see what the officer decides. >> That's all I got. >> All right. So, as far as my disposition, um, with the previous theft, I'm inclined to want to take you to jail because I guess something I guess didn't click between the first offense and the second offense. However, um, I'm choosing to be very generous and issue you a citation. Okay. Now, that also means you're going to get citations. So, you're going to have the cost of the citation. Okay. You're also going to be responsible. Or wait, no, I guess you need the store, so there's no restitution, right? She paid for the item she's keeping. >> Yeah. >> All right. So, yeah, it's just the cost of the the ticket then. Okay. So, that's going to be mailed to you. So, do you understand I guess everything that's transpiring today and where we're going forward? So, you understand you're no longer allowed at any Walmart store in the United States, correct? Okay. And you understand what will happen if you show up. And you also understand that if you continue to steal, you'll more than likely be arrested. And that's any store, not just Walmart. I guess I I want that to be known. Okay. Um your family is here outside. Okay. You are free to leave to go back with them. Um after today's date again, you're no longer welcome on Walmart property. Okay. >> Your ticket will be in the mail and then you'll have your there'll be a court date on there if you wish to contest the ticket. Okay. um instructions on the bottom of the ticket will explain how to do so. Or if you wish to pay it, they'll have instructions uh to do that as well. If you have any other questions or concerns for me before I kick you loose. >> All right, you are free. >> Uh it's still up at the service desk. >> He's going to go grab it for you. >> Thank you. >> I'll hang out a little bit. >> All right. Can I go out? Yeah, you go out. He's just grabbing your card to get out. >> And just like that, she's earned herself a lifetime nationwide ban from Walmart. Number three, police catch shoplifter seconds after she exits the store. Police arrive at Meyer after reports of a theft in progress. A woman is stopped right as she steps out the door. She saw me and stopped. >> She just saw me and stopped. >> Okay, there she >> is. Going out. >> Yep. >> Stop. Stop right now. Please stop. >> I'm stopping. I'm stopping. >> How are you? >> I'm good. How are you? >> I'm good. I'm good. I'm good. >> Put the phone down for me. I'm sorry. >> Stop. Don't reach in the back. Put your hands behind your back. >> What's your name, dear? Put your hands behind your back. Interlace your fingers for me. >> Interlace your fingers like you're praying. >> Hang tight. You're being detained right now. Okay. >> We're good. >> Robert 21. I got one detained on the grocery side. >> I'm sorry. >> I know. I'm sorry. Hey, Robert. >> I wasn't running. >> Okay. It looked like it for a minute. That's why. >> No worries. You said your name's Carissa. >> Okay. >> All right. Why don't you have a seat, Carissa? >> Everything's right in here. >> Up to you guys. Your show. >> I figured it'd be easier to take her to the office. Okay. >> All right. Do you have anything in your pockets? >> No, sir. I have nothing on me. >> Can I search you? Do you even have pockets? >> No, I don't. I don't have pockets. >> This your phone? Use my phone. >> I'm going to I'm going to take that out. I'm going to put it in your bag. Okay. >> Can I pay for >> I'm going to use the back of my hand to check your uh >> I know that. I'm just >> sides. >> This bag is ours, too, isn't it? >> No, that's my bag. That's your bag. >> That's my bag. I came in with that, sir. It's just an >> outfit. Is your ID in the purse? >> I don't have an ID. >> You don't have an ID? >> Before we go back there, let me get your information so we can we can work. No, sir. >> Have you been arrested for shoplifting before? >> No, sir. Never. I've never >> All right, let's go back with this. >> After being searched, she's questioned about whether she had anyone with her. As she's escorted to the loss prevention office, her composure breaks. She apologizes repeatedly and panics at the thought of jail. >> Are you with anyone today? >> No, I'm not. >> How'd you get here? >> Um, I I mean, I rode with somebody. Yes. >> Where they at? >> Uh, I have no idea. They were shopping as well. >> She came in solo. We were outside. >> I did come in solo. Yeah. What kind of car is smoking while we were >> um I I don't know where he is. He I know he just wanted to grab a drink and come back. I don't know >> what kind of car is he in. >> I don't know what kind of car it is. It's a black I don't know. >> There's a male associated with her in a black car outside. There's anyone sitting out there? >> I'm so sorry. I understand you're sorry. >> Oh, I know. Um being that's their process, not mine. We'll >> figure it out. I'm not going to promise you anything right now yet. Okay. >> I'll just be honest with you. >> Listen, I just >> Okay, >> I'm wait I'm waiting on the bed. >> So, before I we talk anymore, I'm going to read your rights. Okay. >> No, I just have You're in handcuffs, so I got to read your rights. Okay. >> I'm not going to say you're not going to jail, but I don't You're not 100% going to jail. Okay. Let's just take some deep breaths. We'll go back here. We'll do what we got to do on their end, and then we'll deal deal with what I got. Okay. >> I'm sorry. Hey, >> I've never done this. It's not the end of the world. >> I know, but I just >> This is why I don't ever do this. >> Where are you living at? >> I'm homeless right now. I literally live in a tent right now, but I'm waiting on a bed at um um Esther Marie. >> Okay. >> Yes. >> So, who's dude that you met? >> Um he's a really really good friend of mine. >> Okay. >> I've known him since like childhood. That's all. I got Anthony trespass. >> So no matter what you are going to be trespass from all meer anywhere where our meer logo is at you're not welcome gas stations included all across the country. >> Are you 11 ourselves just for our database? Following company policy, officers issue a trespass order banning her from all Meer stores and gas stations nationwide. >> If you are caught even just walking on property and they recognize you, they will call you >> any meer. Okay. >> This is just our process. >> I'm so sorry. >> I understand. >> Just trying to get together. It's just my list. >> Stuff you were going to steal. No, I wasn't going to steal the things I need. If you notice, none of that's in my my cart. >> Thank you, Brett. >> Those are just things I need. That's all. >> Needles. Is that what it says? >> No, I'm going to say thread. >> Is there Are you a user? >> No, there's needle and thread in there. Is it needle and thread? >> I'm not going to get poked by anything in here. >> What were you say about a black car out here? Is there somebody else I should be looking for? She arrived with a male. She thinks it was a black car, but I don't have any further description. >> All right, ma'am. Can you do me a >> slow? Is he a white guy or a black guy? >> Black guy. >> K. >> I'm try to get you more. >> Older car, newer car? >> Uh, older car. >> Is it his car? >> Uh, no. I think it's his sister's car. >> All right, man. You're Steal those are >> black sedan possibly registered to a female. >> Was he wearing a hat or anything? >> I'm out here looking now. I think he bounced. >> I don't have any water. If I did, I would >> I'm sure the cruiser spooked him. >> What have you been to the justice center for? >> Um I'm here long a long list of things, sir. I mean, I've been struggling with addiction for a long time, but um I'm I've been in my place cuz I got out I got out in November and um I've been doing I mean I just I'm just homeless and I just started working and >> I got Where are you working at? >> I'm working for a construction company and it's like under the table really. >> Even as she breaks down, the officers stay calm and follow procedure >> because they're screwed. those nature things, I guess. >> I got you. >> You guys have an affidavit back here. >> Yeah, right here. >> I'll let you know in a second. Total is 107.97. >> Okay. >> What's that mean? >> That's the total amount that you stole. Can I I will pay >> once you hit our doors. You can >> I know. No, I know. But I'm just saying like I will pay it back to you guys if I need to. >> Martin, you have a dollar amount. >> 10797. >> They were filling out that now. >> Copy. I'd say this is going to be a physical. >> I walked on it. Does she have any? >> No once, no warrants. It'll be a physical. >> Okay. God. >> So, like I stated before, you are going to be trespassing all my >> Is this for life? >> Um, as of right now, it's just for a year. >> Okay. >> When this goes to court, >> okay, >> and seeing how cooperative you are and everything, we're still going to ask for a stayway order. That's my book, but it will be up to my his discretion on how long. >> Okay. >> Carissa pleads not to be taken in, worried it will disrupt her progress and stability. Officers acknowledge her concerns, but stress that policy dictates the next steps. Well, my boss is out here. He's doing some of our paperwork to try to expedite this. And I don't know what his decision is going to be, honestly. So, >> we'll go from there. I don't I'm I'm not going to be like, "Oh, yeah, no." And then we have to go. So, I don't want to lie to you. >> I'm sorry. >> I don't want to lie to you if he says we got to go to the jail. >> You just really screw up so much for me right now. >> I got you. >> Chriso, you got to go to jail. Stay in there. >> Oh, sir. All right. Please. >> That's where we're at. Okay. Why? >> That's what my boss said. >> Can I please talk to him, please? >> I'll see if he wants to talk to you, but that's where we're at. Okay. >> Please let me talk to >> I'll see what he says. >> Come on. This isn't your first rodeo. >> You got other thefts? >> Oh, I got you. >> Yes. She wants to talk to you. I said just a minute. >> The way that it works in Green Township is if you're arrested for property crimes, you're going to be processed out. It's not like you're going to stay down there. I don't see any cases for you. >> You'll probably get out today. You go down. You'll get processed through. You'll talk to >> The encounter ends with her being taken to jail while officers process paperwork and secure the stolen merchandise as evidence. Number one, she tried the old skip scan trick and got caught instantly. A woman visiting from the Bahamas is caught skip scanning at a Walmart. When confronted, she insists it was a misunderstanding and says she was distracted during selfch checkckout. Here's what happens next. >> I thought it would be a misunderstanding. misunderstanding. I had I know. Listen, >> a misunderstanding is one maybe two items, not 23. >> No, >> not $211 worth. >> That's not a misunderstanding. That is called theft. >> No. No. >> Yes. >> Well, see what happened is when I hold it up, I just scan it like I whatever I see the tag or I just scan it like that. >> One or two say the woman was helping me. But I don't have a problem paying for it because I'm not that type of person. I I don't get no trouble. You all want my name. I don't get no trouble that at home. That's That's what everybody says when they get caught stealing. >> No, you you run my name, right? You run the name. I I don't get no first time for everything. >> It just was a mis It was in intention of the officer. >> A misunderstanding is one or two items, not 23. >> Officer understand the machine like I just I got two small kits. Officer, please just let me just pay for it, please. >> You had that opportunity when you were doing the selfch checkout? >> That was your opportunity to scan and pay for the items? I I told like everything going through. I didn't I didn't I didn't mail to do what would happen. >> Officer, please. I can I just pay, please. I have two small children. Please, officer, please. Like, it it wasn't nothing. It wasn't serious. Officer, please. >> Is she living over here? >> No, she's >> No, I just on vacation. It's just Was it nothing? It was just a mistake. >> When are you leaving? >> I'm leaving um on Friday. >> What's that? >> Friday. Is that a mistake? officer, just please. I have two small kids, please. I'm not from over here. >> Just because you're not from here doesn't mean that you can steal. >> No, I'm not stealing official. >> No, >> you didn't scan those items and you >> No, probably like where I was rushing cuz my cousin keep calling. You see, I was on the phone. My cousin keep calling. I was trying to scan everything like it wasn't it wasn't intentional. Officer, please. She pleads with the officers to let her pay for the missed items, emphasizing that she has two small children and didn't intend to steal. The officers, however, are having none of her excuses. >> Can I just pay for the miss items, please? >> You had that opportunity. We're beyond that. >> Officer, it wasn't It wasn't It was just a misunderstanding. I didn't >> It's not a misunderstanding. >> Officer, please. I have two small kids. Please. You should have thought about that. >> Like it it wasn't intentional. >> Yes, it was very intentional watching the video. It was very intentional. >> I was on the phone. My cousin keep asking where we was, where we was. I was trying to have cash and some of the stuff probably just get [snorts] missed. I probably was grabbing like please miss please mom. So, how much you have to pay? >> $500. That's to get her out of jail. >> To get her >> to get her out. >> She going to have to pay that jail money. That's like I told myself she was saving for this trip from Arizona. >> So, a lot of people that come and steal from Walmart here, they always have a lot of money on them. I don't know why they don't pay. Mom, >> I rescued someone last week and they they didn't scan like hundred and something dollars and he had a a whole thing of cash. >> It's paid for >> you're going to spend more money getting >> Yeah. They also collect the items the woman did pay for and return them to her family. >> Does she have a little kid? >> Yeah, she >> Where's the Where's the kids at? >> Okay. So, they're in the car.
