After the arrest, the judge handling their existing case denies the request for a pre-trial release. The women now face upgraded charges and a more complicated legal road ahead. Number four, she thought she got away with $2,000 in designer bags until the cop showed up. Just before the holidays, a woman walks into a Saks Fifth Avenue store in Florida and helps herself to over $2,000 worth of merchandise. Store employees spot the suspicious behavior and follow her movements through different departments. Once she passes all points of sale without paying, they detain her outside and call the police. Doing good. You're good to go. I'm good to go. Thank you. Hi, officer. Doing good. What's going on? Not much. They're having some fun over in the mall apparently. All of a sudden, big fight. Is that what happened? Yeah. That's not good. No, but it is what it is. Can I talk to you first? Yes, sir. Uh what' you uh what' you see? So, um, I was on the sales floor and one of my associates called me and he's like, "Hey, I think this lady's shoplifting." So, I'm like, "Okay." So, she had sunglasses on. She had an empty big Sachs bag. So, I sat there and watched her and I didn't I didn't see the first initial um selection which she which my men's man or my men's associate actually saw, but I kept on following her and I was on the sales floor and I kept on just and she selected off the back wall, stuck a person, went selected again, grabbed this was the per the first purse off the back wall, stuck it inside the bag. Okay. went to another fixture. This is what she had already concealed in this bag. Went to another fixture, picked this up. So, you saw the other two purses? Um, all three purses. Okay. Three purses. Yeah, three purses. She walked around cosmetics and stuff like that. Did you put any of the testers or anything like that in your purse? No. No. You could check. No, no, no. It's fine. Well, I'm going to have to check stuff. Yeah. have to search her anymore. Store security confirms that the woman took multiple items without paying and attempted to cover her tracks by hiding tags and slipping out the front door. And then she walked through lady's shoes. She popped off all the tickets right there in lady's shoes and then walked through men's, placed the tickets in um a shirt and then went ahead and walked out. That's where I went at him and I apprehended her. Okay. So, she did walk out. Oh, yeah. Passed all points. Um, both doors. So, what all did was taken? So, I have cuz I'm going to need at least like a a gift receipt or something showing the prices. Yeah, that's that's fine. Actually, I can But three purses. Um, three purses and a shirt. And a shirt. Yes, sir. just cuz I need to know the total. Yep, you got it. Okay, I know you've already said what you said, but I'm going to read these two. Okay. Um, from Miranda Warren required to warn you before you make any statement that you have the following con constitutional rights. His right to remain silent and not answer any questions. Any statement you make be freely and voluntarily given. You have the right to the presence of represent uh presence and representation of a lawyer of your choice before you make any statements and during any questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, you're entitled to the presence and representation of a court for appointed lawyer before you make any statement and during any questioning. If at any time during the interview you do not wish to answer any questions, you're privileged to uh privilege to remain silent. I can make no threats or promises to induce you to make a statement. This must be of your own free will. Any statement can and will be used against you in court. Do you understand those rights if I as I read them to you? Yes, sir. Do you still wish to talk to me? When questioned, the woman admits she made a bad choice and cooperates during the search. Um, officer, I can't really. Okay. There's no reason. And your intent today was to come in shoplift. Was attempt? Yes. Okay. Okay. So, I never shot with the toys. This is my first time, but Okay. So, listen. I'm going to go through here, make sure there's no more other stuff in here. Absolutely. You have my consent. Oh, I don't need your consent at this point. Just because I understand. Is this one of yours or is this hers? Blanco, right? All right. So, I'm going to be honest with you right now. Okay. You are under arrest right now. Yes. You are under arrest right now. She said I could go home. No, I said he's either going to give you an NTA or he's going to Well, you would be getting an NTA today, but you have a warrant out for arrest right now for failure to appear to arraignment for defraing defrauding an inkeeper uh for food. Officers soon find out she's wanted on a warrant for skipping court in a prior restaurant fraud case. For what? For food? Yes. You were supposed to go to arraignment back in November for a charge of uh obtaining food by means of defraud. Oh, she dropped the charges on me. We spoke to the officer and the officer dropped the charges. You missed your arignment. They put out a fail to appear in the county in Palm Beach County. Oh, okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. So, because you did not go to that court date, that arraignment, they put a warn out. Okay. So, cuz I did spoke to the officer and the lady from the food, you know, from the Chinese buffet and we just spoke to the officer and she said, "I want to drop the charges because I did pay and I have all the proof." Yeah. But the issue is is because you missed that arraignment, the Okay. Did you miss that that initial court order? Order they put out a field of appear. Okay. I'm not going to put you in cuffs just yet. Okay? Because I have to wait for them to confirm that it's actually still a valid warrant. Okay? If they come back and tell me, "No, it's not a valid warrant anymore," we will uh we'll go ahead and we'll just, you know, we'll bring you downstairs uh to my vehicle. We'll do some paperwork real quick and I'll cut you loose with a notice to appear. Okay. Appreciate that. So, I'm being upfront with you, being honest with you, but it all depends on if uh that warrant. Yes. Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office comes back and tells me, you know, yes or no, the warrant's good. Okay. Okay. Sounds like a good deal. I'll say yes. What was the total amount? Um total amount is 2,000. Let me see the total amount on it. It has a stick. So, actually, no, there's not going to be an NTA because it's felony amount. Initially, officers consider issuing her a notice to appear, but because the value of the stolen merchandise exceeds $750, the theft is classified as a felony. Cuz it's over $750. Okay. What does that mean? That means that you have to go down the county jail whether or not this warrant comes back as a good warrant. Okay. So, car's off, too. I'm going to go ahead and put your DL in here for now. Okay. Yeah. All right. Go ahead and stand up, please. Go ahead and put your hands back behind your back. It's easier if you're if you place some palms together like you're praying like this. Yeah. This jacket. Sorry. You're fine. Okay. Any of your jewelry that you have, we'll put in your uh in your purse. Okay. Okay. I'm going to give them um a copy of your civil demand. The law office will contact you. We don't actually take that. Can I put it in Can I put Yeah, you can put it in there. Let me make sure these are locked. I'm sorry. Just bring your arms up. Okay, there you go. She's ultimately charged with felony grand theft and receives 2 years of probation. Number three, shoplifting woman thought paying later would undo the crime. At a Walmart, a woman tries to walk out with two shopping carts full of unpaid merchandise and ends up in handcuffs. Store employees spot her and another person bagging items in different departments and bypassing the checkout lanes altogether. Police arrive and stop her outside. Why do I go to jail for not resisting? I'm not resisting. Put your back. Put your bag there. Put your bag there. Right here. Turn off. You're under arrest for shoplifting. But these are supposed to be for They're supposed to be for See how this works is you can't take stuff from inside and not pay for it and take it out and then return it. That's called fraud. It's called stealing. That's how that works. You kind of have to pay for stuff before you return it. 124. I got the mail to I think uh 54 and 56. Can I turn off my stuff, please? Can I turn off my stuff, please? 54. Yeah, we got both the same. We can go back to main not for all the stuff besides stuff. No. No, that's not how it works. I'm not being sarcastic. No, I'm not being sarcastic either. You're an adult. You can't steal stuff from the store, two cart loads full of stuff, and then say, "Oh, I'm in handcuffs now. Now I want to return it." Maybe. Okay. Is this your driver's license in here? My driver's license is not in there. It's not in here? No. I wouldn't think so. You wouldn't think so? No, probably. Okay. Well, can I can tell you pick up the car cuz I do have a car here. Um, we need to get a receipt for everything. So, hold on. We'll take this one, too, once he's ready. And that's my brother. Can I Can I make a call for the car? No. You have anything sticking me and needles in there? No. No. Yeah. Um, hold on. I'm going to go with you so that way we can get the receipt and uh you'll go to the office. [Music] What? I'll put her in the same car. I want to watch them both. No, no, no. They do not go in the car together. Sir, is that you can pay for our cash that already? We were done with You're done with that. You stole the bags to begin with. No, that's my bag. That is my personal bag. And who's in that? I'm ready. Can I tell you? Put her in your car and then he can go in his car and then I'll get everything started and go from there. Yep. Just start getting IDs and we'll go from there. I'm recording. So, food, knives. Where were they bagging this up? So, they went into Well, they were in two different departments. They went to the shoe department where they did most of it. Okay. And they did some where the towels are. Okay. And they were bagging it as They were bagging as they were going. Okay. All the merchandise. is going to go right here. [Music] You want me to hand it to you? Is this a pocket that goes into Sometimes they allow it. That's what I'm asking. Allowing what? because they won't have a car. I don't I don't know what you're asking me. If my people think if the car owner can't come pick up the car. Well, figure that out. I'm being very respectful. I know. Yeah, I know. I'm being very respectful. I'm not trying to disrespect you. Having these rights in mind, do you wish to talk to me or talk to us? Having these rights in mind, do you wish to talk to us? Well, about the the carving, about everything that just happened. Like just go to the contact and tell him I can just say come pick up the car. I'm like I said I'm going to figure that out at the end. Your car is the least of your worries right now. Literally your least of your worries. You should that's the last question you need to be asking right now. There's a lot of things we got to figure out first cuz obviously you committed a crime. So real. That's what I'm ask I'm ask I pay for my So I'm going to ask I'm going to ask you once and once only okay about what happened and you need to tell me the exact truth. If you don't tell me the exact truth that's going to be on you so tell me from from exactly what happened what you stole everything from literally where you went. Towels towels. Huh? And um so you you're you're admitting to stealing these these towels. I'm compromising with you. Okay. I know. I'm not trying to be a child. No, no, no. I'm just I'm just I want to understand that you're you're admitting to you're understanding that you're just it's I want you to understand this is a crime. Like you understand that's wrong, right? I I totally understand, but I'm not trying to give you extra trouble. Like I'm not a trouble. I'm not trying to give you problems. So So you mentioned taking uh taking the towels without paying for them. And also what else do you meant to taking? The towels without paying for them. And what else was in the cart? It was some uh a knife set. Knife set. Okay. All those items in the cart. Those are all all items that you took and you were going to plan on taking out taking them out of the store without paying for them. Right. The shopping cart that I saw in your hands. Correct. The shopping cart that you see in my hand. You said what? Those two shopping carts that you had when I stopped you over there before I handcuffed you. I had one shopping cart. I didn't have two shopping carts. My living my god brother had one and I had one. No, you had two right there. You had two and then you had two shopping carts. I had one shopping cart. H I had one shopping cart. Okay. So everything that shopping cart you admit to to obviously stealing, right? I had the shopping cart with the bings. H I had the shopping cart with the sheets in with the sheets. Okay. So those sheets you were planning on playing to pay for, right? I mean Yeah, cuz you passed all points to sell, right? You passed the store. So, you were obviously going to Are you going to resell it? Were you going to resell it? I was trying to do a return. I stood at the return line originally. Okay. She keeps insisting she was going to return the items or maybe pay for them later, but the officers remain firm. And then, so you passing them and what were you planning on doing after? You're going to just use them for your house or were you going to like return them later or sell them later? Like what was the purpose of what was the purpose of you stealing? Just being dumb. I was just being Okay. Well, I know. I know. But what was the purpose? You going to use it? No. You weren't going to use it. So, you're just stealing for for not your own use. That's why I was asking. Can I just pay my troubles? Like, if I can I know sometimes they work. No. Okay. Let's say we never caught you. Let's say none of this happened. Let's say you just walked out. I really know what I would done. You don't know what you're going to done. I I really wouldn't know what I would have done. All right. Give me a second. Okay. I had no idea. I literally hadn't smoke anything at all. Okay, just invite. With no direct evidence and no burnt items found on her, officers and store staff assess the situation and make a judgment call. something burning in there, but it is not. Okay. So, we would just need evidence, some sort of, you know, proof cuz she's saying she didn't burn anything. She didn't have anything on her. Yeah. So, right now, I'm just writing up trespass. That's That's fine because the soonest I would be able to get video evidence would be tomorrow. So, and of course, it's too late for right now. Was there any items? Did you check where she left her stuff? Did you see anything burnt? So when she I had another customer who went into the restroom at the same time she did. I went in there and checked myself. Nothing was burning at that time. The customer came out and um as she's coming out, she's like I don't know what that was all about, but I had a lighter. So I went and I went in there again and all I can smell is the smelling the burning smell of our sensors in the bathroom. Like it literally still smells like that in there right now. It takes a while cuz we don't have great ventilation in there. So, it takes a while for it to come out of the restroom. Yeah. Um to not have to close it off for the rest of the night. But she had like um she had like some of our stationary stuff that was like a purple pen with like a star on it. Um I know that she had one of those in her hands and I don't know if she still has that or not, but that was one of the things that she had. And she had some bags and stuff. I did try to pick up as much as the bags I could, but Yeah. Okay. So, do you So, you just want to trespass or I just want to get her right now. That's Yeah. Okay. Okay. I'll do that and then Okay. And then I'll just bring this back in. Okay. Thank you. Okay. Sorry. Just another minute. Trespassing. Yeah. So, they said that right after you went right when after you went into the bathroom, it smelt like there was a customer complaining that when you went into the bathroom, it smelt like burning. And then the manager went in after and she said it smelt like um so funny because if you play the camera tapes, I wasn't even in the bathroom long enough to do anything other than Instead of making an arrest, they issue a trespass notice and escort her out. Well, unfortunately, I mean, I can't prove that you were in there burning. So, they aren't pressing charges for anything. They just want you trespassed. So, does this mean I can't come to the whole place or just this location? So, if you wanted to go to a different Burlington, um, you could. And then same as like if you need to go to Big Lots or something, but you cannot. So, it would be criminal trespass in the second degree if you're hanging out outside of this specific store. So, if you go to Big Lots, don't like linger in front of here. Um, and you also, it's a one-year trespass from this store. I don't get to shower often, so I mean, I've had people tell me I do smell bad. No, they said it's like burning plastic. I didn't light anything on fire at all. Okay. You know, it's funny because the Everett Library actually uh twice now has uh barred me for 60 days because they said I was smoking in the bathroom. their vapor sensors went off. And the second time I watched a security guard watch me and my home girl walk into the bathroom together and she smoked in the bathroom. I didn't I don't smoke in public in public because I like being able to go to the restroom when I can't. You know what I mean? Yeah. Like but like how's the store supposed to know when if two of you go in and then it smells like smoke? He said you he said you were the only one in the bathroom when it went off. I was like you saw her go in there with me. Dude, come on. Stop. like, "Don't even play me like that. Run the cameras back." The woman continues to deny any wrongdoing and protest the accusations. And he was like, "Yeah, but when the sensor went off, she was already gone." And I'm like, "Okay, well then y'all need to fix your sensors or something." Yeah. Think about how how much time that takes for the smoke to travel to the top of the ceiling and then to get to your sensor or whatever. I don't know. But either way, he knew she was in the bathroom. Then he told me, "Well, you can uh you can um uh dispute it and honestly it'll probably get lifted because every single one we've had except one ever was lifted because the chick smoked right in front of the security officers like while she was trying to argue with the administration or some something." I was like, "That sounds pretty psychotic." Talk about a jail date for her. 31, are you available to come to Burlington? Um, okay. So, you'll just sign here at the bottom. This says, like I was saying, a one-year trespass. Just right down there acknowledging that. Go. So, at this point though, I'm going to give you your copy of this, but you are not free to leave. You do have a warrant out of Everett. Okay. Looks like you have a quite a few warrants out of Everett. There's one for criminal trespass in the second degree. Are you sure? Yeah. That's not my sister. So, the name that you gave me is not coming back with her turn. The only name is coming back with Kylie. And all of the photos, the DL photo is you. the booking photo. This is you. So, I'm not believing that your name is Kiara. It's my sister. While writing up the paperwork, the woman tries to dodge identification by giving her sister's name. However, the truth unravels when the police compare photos in their system and identify her as Kylie, not Kiara. Is your sister? Yeah. Okay. So, Kylie is your name? Kaye. Kaye. Okay. So, why'd you lie to me about your name? Because you knew you had a warrant? No. Okay. So, you're under arrest for the warrant. So, please, please, please don't just face the vehicle. Please, please don't arrest me. This isn't going to turn into a fight. Please, please don't arrest me. This is not going to turn into a fight. Face the vehicle. Please don't arrest me. Please face the vehicle. Please, please. Please don't arrest me. Please put your hand behind your back. Please don't arrest me. What do I not understand? What do you have? What do you have? Is it cellulitis or something? I have one tested one there. What do you have on your leg? Yeah. What is it? I'm saying. Okay. Step up here. What's in your pocket? There's like a What were you smoking in the bathroom? Was it? I wasn't smelling anything. You weren't smoking smoking. No, you don't have anything to smoke. So, well, obviously we're smoking something off the tin foil. No, I just have that. Lift your hands for me. Okay. Do you have anything else that I would need to know about or the jail would need to know about? You have anything in your draw before I came in? That's why I do the bad. At this point, the situation shifts quickly from civil to custodial. Okay. What pills? Okay. The nurse check you out there. Take a seat in the back seat. Nothing in your shoes. Help, help, help. Can you call for an aid for my leg? Uh, we will once we get there. Sorry, that took so long. Coffee. Thank you so much. Thank you. Thanks. You too. All right. Sorry. Well, that's what happens when you lie through your teeth. Those tags don't burn themselves. No receipts, no excuses, just charges and a court date. That's one shoplifting trip they won't forget.
