visit Shop bloody hairy.com for your chance to win one of three bloody hairy hoodies all you have to do is subscribe to our newsletter and you'll be entered to win drawings coming up in October so be sure you visit now this is really weird got another one [Music] my name is Matthew tomes I'm 35 years old and I've been at the oxer police department since December of 2017 I became a police officer because one I always felt called to serve and always want the opportunity to help people whenever I could it's also in my family got several family members over over time that have been in police work so I guess it was always kind of in my blood and and a lot of times just really exciting it's something new every day you never know what you're going to run into and even if you're dealing with the same person it's probably going to be some different type of call so it's kind of exciting and it gives you a lot of freedom to to do different things each day we're going to stop this vehicle it's got no tag on it so we just going to see if they got it registered or if they just bought it and just chat with them for a minute 7:37 1039 Leon Smith Parkway rust of you rally way white fordor Camry no 28 hello hi nobody back here thank you sir I'm with OPD officer tombes I'm just checking on that tag you got it I did you just buy it we did I have my thing oh you good you got your license with you it's at the Ballpark I'm going to get it I left it there that's all right are you licensed to drive yes sir okay what team y'all with Americans from norport americ close to Tuscaloosa yes sir to the championship well welcome to Oxford yes okay okay what do you know your driver's license number no but I know my social okay that's all right do you know your social I thank I should my driver license hey it's all right it happens um do you have it did you give me proof of insurance or no it's on my phone do you have insurance can you pull that up for me I'm going to go check make sure your license and everything I'll be right back with you okay will you just leave that pulled up for me what's up man you doing all right all right all right so uh she doesn't have her license on her technically in the state of Alabama you're still supposed to have your your driver's license with you but my biggest concern long as she is licensed I'm not real worried about it and she's looking for her insurance on her phone so if she can show me on her phone show Pro Insurance that's perfectly awesome and that's legal and legit so she's looking that up and then we're going to look at her bill of sale and if she's within her 20 days you have 20 days to register register a vehicle in the state of Alabama after you've bought it or come into possession of it so um it appears is she's a little outside of her 20 days looks like she bought it on the 1st of May today's June 16th Father's Day so yeah she's a little bit behind on that so I going to talk to her a little bit more see what the deal is and just go from there and I'm going to go see if she's got if she's found her insurance so that's kind of where we're at [Music] all C uh you will be but it'll be no listen so it's are y'all familiar with what we do no okay so it's not actually cops but it's us cops through YouTube it's not YouTube TV it's a YouTube channel and so no no hey you may not make the cut but I got another issue too so did you buy the car on May 1st is that correct yes but I had the girl I bought it from it was a private buyer and I had to wait for her to get the title back before I could get the paper to go get a tag okay are you I just got my title paper back like two weeks ago okay not even so look you know you got 20 days to get registered I know you've been dealing with the title I know that happens um you don't have your physical driver's license with you but you are showing that you're legit and legal and licensed so I'm not not a big deal but like if my computer system was down and you didn't have your card with you I wouldn't be able to verify who you were but I saw your picture and I've been able to verify so look just a verbal warning get this car registered please ma'am um cuz I believe you and your insurance that was perfect and just try to keep that card with which I know you said it was at the yes we the ball there and we left and I was like I don't even have a wallet she bought my lunch literally we didn't have hey good move I like your tactics I like that yeah forgot the wallet um look y'all enjoy just verbal warnings just try to get all that taken care of okay um and this episode will drop someday in the future and so all right y'all be careful bye thank you stay safe bye she didn't have her license card with her not a big deal she's licensed to drive I was able to confirm she was outside of her 20 days I believe her story she had an issue with the title technically could write her a ticket for I guess failure to register um but they were super nice super Cooperative um I just believed her situation gonna give her a little Grace and um hopefully she'll get that car registered so that's pretty much all we can do on that one and now we're going to go back tonight we're back welcome to season 3 of us cops [Music] hey folks welcome to season 3 of us cops uh this is our second time at the police department here in Oxford Alabama filming with us cops last season uh season two worked out pretty well it was our first experience with us cops and and quite honestly our first experience with a production team being here and you know having cameras in your face and stuff but it worked out pretty good so we invited them back to do season three and here we are so from season two we do go back and look at some of the comments and one of the one of the most asked questions or most uh U often made comments was why does Oxford Police Department with a uh uh or the city of Oxford with a population to 22 24,000 people have an aviation that's a really good question we get that question all the time I'm going to answer that question but let's first go way back to 2011 when we very first started the aviation unit in 2011 approached Chief parchers about starting an aviation unit here with the police department we were even smaller back then so he was he was a little apprehensive about it but uh he he let me continue the process of um proposal getting everything ready um so after our initial conversation about two weeks later I went back to him and gave him a full proposal for the for an aviation unit which he agreed to so from 2011 up to 2015 we were just kind of in limbo with we wrote Our policies and got everything taken care of from an administrative perspective started getting aircraft from the dod 1033 program in 2015 and from then that point forward we really started building an aviation units why do we need an aviation unit going back to that question that comment well the city of Oxford is kind of the economic hub for a large portion of East Central Alabama and with that we get a lot of thefts we get a lot of crime we're right here on I20 in between Birmingham and Atlanta so there's a lot of stuff coming off the interstate and a lot of municip municipalities and other agencies surrounding the city of Oxford including all the way up to gadston you can go ahead and get your Maps out and start taking a look but all the way up towards adawa County back down to Chambers County and then over to Jefferson County there's a lot of people there about 900,000 residents in that geographical area and along with that comes a lot of crime so what we do is a multi-jurisdiction support effort for all of those municipalities counties agencies and if they call us for any kind of support we go out and we help those agencies out that's important because if we a lot of these same uh uh these same criminals kind of roam around and they're all over the place so if we can go you know effectively help another agency with their uh crime rate then that's ultimately helping ours too because they're they're a lot of the same people doing that so yeah we we're a we're a town of 20 24,000 people but with an asset like a a helicopter we can be you know 50 mil away or whatever in in you know 30 minutes so it's not a problem for us to uh to get out and go go help these other agencies so that's why we do what we do that's why we have an aviation unit plus it's just another added uh resource for everybody in East Central Alabama I mean it's it people think that it's cost an exorbitant amount of money it doesn't because of the the platforms that we got the aircraft we got from MD helicopters and and we're a smaller unit so doesn't cost what you think but it's a fantastic resource to have uh we're going to stop this car for no taget 763 1039 1039 2178 on a red Ford Mustang 2811 alpha bravo 9 x-ray uniform hey M you got your license and insurance thank you did you know your tag lights out no I didn't you got a current insurance car by chance not on me not on you do you have current Insurance yes okay okay where you headed to tonight I just my y okay uh once I send you that card just make sure that you keep up with it okay I will all right give me one second okay y 7288 which uh Chevron you work at the one on 78 down by new fire by the uh RV park yeah okay and you said you just got off yes I had to go check my atst office is that like the store mail or something yes okay just waiting on your license to come back are you staying at a Country Court no I live P there like keep going down toward uh like Highway Nine area yeah um you know where the stage unit are on 78 yeah right AC what yeah um there you go do you know you're showing a warrant through Indiana yes ma'am is that FTA I'm guessing yes is there like a traffic ticket or something like that um I was supposed to went to court in 2010 I had moved down here I asked the judge what I could do to W get out of trouble and never heard back from him in 2015 he issued the War what was it four just like some uh I was with a friend and they were shop lifting at Walmart and Walmart will get you every time they don't play about that I'm not riding any tickets or anything like that um just stopped you for the tag light all right um so get that fixed I will tomorrow um but that being said is there anything that shouldn't be in the car no would you have a problem if we took a look real quick no okay thank you any just throw your hands up there do you care if I pat you down real quick nothing on any Sharps going to stab sick pooke nothing like that no no weapons just a lighter back a lighter okay okay yeah I see the lighter all right you mind standing there with them for me you just stand right [Applause] here pocket knives you collect them or something yeah well I can't I'm a so I have so I carry a knife it's fair enough fair enough you want pair of gloves all all right hey um I appreciate the cooperation all that good stuff problem like I said just get that tagl fixed okay I will as soon as possible yes ma'am and you have a good night you be safe okay you too you go up here just just to expand on that I I an example of how we are able to quickly get to other municipalities and other agencies within East Central Alabama is we initiated a Chase on our 20R narcotics guys did and that chase ended up going into vehicle Chase it ended up going into into t the city of Lincoln comes back through the city of Oxford the city of Aniston goes over into the city limits of tallad it was all over the place um and you got to be very careful in those car chases one the the safety of everybody on the road is is extremely important we wearing a vehicle Chase so when we throw the aircraft up and I've got one of my tfos that was um is actually our chief pilot and our safety officer Chief pilot Drew MCH and safety officer and pilot and TFO Trevor Riley he was uh he was the observer in the TFO that day so he goes up and and are those guys do we leave our response time is probably five or six minutes we picked the uh we picked the chase up about six miles out and we start calling that chase out at six miles so what that allows us to do is it allows the officers that on on the on the ground in that car chase to pay even more close attention to what going on on the roadway to these other motorist so they don't they don't get hurt it allows us to call the car chase plus if one of our guys on the ground loses that vehicle that suspect vehicle that aircraft is going to be really difficult for us to lose that vehicle because we're right overhead so it ends up leaving going down West on I20 like I said going into Lincoln uh spinning around coming back to Oxford Aniston shoots back over to tallad County ultimately we make the arrest and and the Aviation units call in the chase the whole time now even though that that's not an example of a multi-jurisdictional support it could have been very quickly if the city of Oxford guys would have lost sight of that vehicle because now you've got Talla Sheriff's Office and the Alabama state troopers and Lincoln Police Department all these multitude of agencies coming in that are helping out and our guys are off of it where we can still stay on scene and now we're supporting those other agencies as well so that's just a quick example of F of why we have the aviation unit and how helpful it can be so vehicle just came by my partner advised that he's the driver didn't have his seat belt on so we're trying to catch up see what's going on with that it's a small silver sedan trying to catch up to him now I said he's trying to put cars in between us and him it looks like because he got over to the other Lane in front of this work truck right here and then as he got the light he moved back over I'm go around see if I can get a tag I wasn't him 11 one Bravo 469 Bravo 114 69 bravo bravo 76 it's got to be one1 Bravo 4 69 Bravo afternoon I'm officer love lar Police Department reason I stopped you CU before I stopped you didn't have your seat belt on man you got your license proof of insurance on you got my ins do I I have my uh proof Insurance you do do you have your driver's license on you by any chance looks like your passenger fell down on the floorboard down there Spider-Man fell down on the floorboard man that's your kid you going to work or coming from work next on break you're on break where you work at work for AC electric okay you working close by yeah right here okay all right I'm going to grab this and zoom in okay sorry I can't talk today for some reason this one showing expired in May you got to updated one you said you had your license on you or you don't I don't okay do you know your driver's license number or your social what's your name said y was working in mford yeah all righty we just keep working on the insurance I'm going to try and verify it through your tag is this your car yes my it's in your mom's name okay that's that's the same one brother 5224 just just keep looking for it okay I'll be right back all right mhm what's up say what you say he said he knew he get P why that that's yeah when I say he have his seat belt on he went hey you good hey do you still live on uh in Jacksonville what's the address all right I know this paper freaks most people out all right so don't let it freak you out I'm going explain everything to you okay all right this is for now wearing your seat belt it's just a warning okay no court date no court cost no fines or nothing just a friendly reminder where you seat belt man you got kids yeah I want you to be able to see them okay you get into a wreck the chances of that start going down if we're not want our seat belt okay all right so I check I verified your insurance on the car in the computer it's good all right so your mom's got insurance just get her to get that upday copy to you man I ain't going to jam me up on that all right so this is a ticket your license is suspended all right first thing I'm going to tell you call about getting a hardship license so you can go to work okay hard hardship license call the same call the DMV or do or whatever they want to call themselves call up to the trooper post in Jacksonville and see what you need to do about getting a hardship license now it's only going to cover you to and from work outside of that it's still driving suspended okay but if if it meets the criteria then you're covered all right so that keeps you from having this happen okay all right also your court date is August 6th so if you can go get your license yeah I'm trying to go get them now yeah when I get off get your license if you can bring it up there and say hey I got a license I'll sign off on I I I'll I'll I'll do away with it okay I ain't trying to take no money out of people's pockets or food out of people's mouths all right that's not what I'm about okay so there's your citation do you have your a copy of your driver's license with you or do they take it no I have a copy I just don't got a moment okay keep it on you somebody could write you a ticket for not having in your possession I'm not going to sit here and just hand you a novel the size of a Harry Potter book full of papers okay so apprciate man you good just you mind if I ask you a few questions so you ain't got nothing on you ain't supposed to have besid Spider-Man on the floorboard probably need to buckle him in too cuz you know you know little one's going to be pissed the Spiderman starts rolling around the floor so nothing illegal in the vehicle anything like that would you mind if I check and make sure do do what yeah you can Che okay if you'll just step back here with my partner and hang tight I'll be right back with you okay 760 1060 vehicle starts got another one he must be in timeout he's riding in the trunk running around all kinds of guns in the car this ain't nothing it's just old I it's didn't went in near your engine so n you good man hey look you a copy of your license was in the uh glove box yeah so I put in your cup holder for you man okay so look the drive all suspended all right so don't move the car all right we going to roll on make sure you get your license fixed don't forget the hardship license okay and then if you can get that license fixed before August 6th I'll drop it okay drop the whole thing like I said I'm move the car we're going to ride on okay all right good to meet you Deandre stay out of trouble keep working hard okay I'm I'm going to let you throw that away cuz it was it was yours at some point it just fell in the dam engine I don't know how that happened all right man take it easy so uh stop gentleman in silver vehicle uh for not wearing a seat belt make with him he's real nervous wouldn't make eye contact kind of vague about just questions and stuff like that just ask about his license he said he got to he's got to get his license so found out he was suspended WR a citation for driving while suspended far enough out where he could get it taken care of explain him the process of getting a hardship license so he can still go to work um wrote him a warning for the seat belt and then um once the stop was concluded I ask him if um I could search his car he said we could I didn't find anything uh nothing illegal or anything like that in the vehicle so he's been told not to operate a motor vehicle while suspended and we're back in service so my name is Richard Bier staff I am a chief of police in leville Alabama um which is probably about 30 minutes or so from from Oxford here um what I'm here for and what I'm want to speak about is uh the the really I guess the assistance the uh what I want to say is is express my gratitude and appreciation uh number one the Oxford Police Department uh the things that that they do for the communities and the areas around here I don't know that people fully understand that me I I hope they understand that if they don't um they should understand uh what Oxford really does for more than just the city of Oxford um I know we've actually utilized um Oxford's ESU units um we recently utilized Oxford's Aviation support unit um and you know these guys they don't have to do this um this everything they have um all these resources all this equipment that these guys have um this is Oxford's I mean they don't have to do the things that they do but you know they they're always so eager to reach out um they're always on the go anytime I've ever called Oxford pity for anything uh they're they're right there on the go um and I just I hope they know how much smaller departments like us um appreciate what they do um and I hope the citizens around here understand what they have um in their law enforcement department here as a matter of fact just just recently a couple of weeks ago uh we we had a a vehicle Chase um in Lille and U the occupants fled on foot uh we caught the driver um but the passenger Got Away um L was pretty rural place a lot of woods um so he got away and got off into the woods and honestly at that time we didn't look a whole lot for him we had the driver and thought we had what we wanted uh but after further investigations and finding out and looking into who the passenger was um this guy was a a career criminal um with an extensive criminal background um he was wanted out of another state with Nationwide extradition so you know at that point we decided we don't we don't want this guy around here um we need to do what we can to to figure out where he's at so wellin about 20 hours or so we actually were fortunate enough to figure out where he was at um we got a plan together um got our guys together and um we reached out to Oxford Aviation support unit um knowing that this guy's probably going to be fleeing um depending on the situation we didn't know what we're we're going to run into U but we reached out to Oxford Aviation um and they were just more than willing to come assist and and do anything that that we asked of them uh they were they were there when we when we hit the place everything fortunately went smooth he did run uh like we thought but but we we did apprehend him um but you know I've I've I've heard some of Oxford's officers talking about the the comfort of having their support over the top of them um andan I you I didn't really I guess comprehend or understand what that meant but I'm going to tell you something that day having those guys overhead um it it was just like they said it's a comforting feeling to know that that you got eyes up there looking down on you you can see anything around you u a lot of things that you can't see yourself but yeah I mean with just within moments they were there and and there to help and we just appreciate them uh the as a matter of fact Oxford I spoke about ESU a while ago I mean uh you know those guys we've utilized those before in the past um they've even come to our city uh and into our schools and and done training uh you know Lord forbid anything ever happen in our schools uh we we're not equipped the way that this department is to handle things like that um naturally we're going and and we're going to do all that we can but I can assure you our our first call on the way is going to be to talk for PD for their assistance 76 1039 1039 snow and dewy on
