Sometimes parents mess up and it's the cops who step in to set things right. Here are five cases when good cops rescue kids from awful parents. Number five, this dad thought driving with no tire and a beer was a good idea. Officers respond to reports of a reckless driver swerving down the highway, missing a front tire, grinding on the rim, and with a child riding in the back seat. Once stopped, officers approach and immediately notice the man's erratic behavior. >> I agree. Never mind. >> Dude, you got to get off the road. You can't keep driving on a flat tire. >> I'm trying to get behind you on the left side. >> Okay, Nevie, you're trying to go around this way. I got to get you safely over there so we can get you off the road and get you some help. Okay, let me stop Let me stop traffic in the right lane so I can get you over there. Okay, >> over that way then. Okay. All the way over. All the way over. Onto the shoulder. You got to get on the shoulder. You can't keep driving on that rim. >> You got to get off to the shoulder. On the right shoulder. 550. 550. >> Can you change this to a signal 12 driving westbound on the on the rim of the vehicle? Um, for some reason doesn't want to pull over. I don't know if he's involved with the signal three or what's going on. >> Stop your vehicle. >> What? >> Did you vomit on yourself? No, sir. Come over here. Get that. >> Well, it looks like you've urinated. >> That's incorrect. >> What's that? Why is your crotch region wet? >> It's not. >> Yes, it is. >> It's Look, it's in That's not a wet crotch region, sir. So, what am I seeing there? You're not seeing anything. That doesn't make any sense. What happened to your car? Why don't you have a tire? >> I do have a tire. I'm trying to get home with it with my tire. >> No, what I'm telling you is the front of your vehicle does not have a tire on it. Were you unaware that the front of your vehicle does not have a tire? >> I'm getting home on the tire that my vehicle had. >> When asked about the missing tire, he denies it, claiming he's just trying to get home. There's a tire under. >> That's not it. >> What do you mean that's not it? >> I'm going to get home. >> On this on your rim? >> Yes, sir. >> You're going to drive on the highway. That's not safe. >> We have four tires. I just showed you a picture of your vehicle without one tire. >> I don't agree with you. >> Come over here. Come on. >> Right over here. >> That's not safe. >> Oh, so you don't want us to take a look at it >> to get that close to the road with you. No. >> You forced me to get over that? >> I forced you to cuz you were pulling into the road >> because I grabbed your shoulders. I put you into the road. You're saying I put you into the road. >> You did because you tried to drive off. >> That's what happened when I pulled up. >> I'm I'm mistaken. >> Do you have your driver's license with you? >> Well, of course. >> Where were you coming from? >> Where I was coming from is from Princeton. The conversation quickly spirals. The man contradicts himself repeatedly, gets defensive, and refuses to acknowledge the risks he's taking. Okay. Where on Princeton? From Princeton. From what location? >> Princeton. What's your confusion, sir? What location were you coming from? Were you coming from your house? A friend's house, a business, a restaurant, a gas station? my house on Princeton. >> So, you weren't coming back from your house. >> What's your confusion? >> Can you just tell me if you were coming from your house or not? >> I was coming from my house on Prince. >> Okay, that was very difficult. A different son. >> Hey buddy, can you stay in the car? >> No. I left him. Okay. >> I love him. >> What's going on? >> Awesome. Close your door. >> Sir, you don't tell me what to say to my son. Close your door. >> Everything's all right. >> Okay. You're allowed. >> Okay. You all right? You're physically okay? >> No, I'm good. I know. >> Close your door. Sir, how dare you grab my credit? I'm aston. >> What is happening? >> What is happening? >> Do you have an explanation? No. You're going to come. >> Don't worry, bud. They don't have anything to hold me on. Come over here. Come over here. >> And just like that, he ends up in cups, still insisting he's done nothing wrong. >> Drag me. No, you have to drag me. >> What am I doing? Sure. Put him down. Put him down. >> Drag me. >> On your butt. >> Roll over on your butt. >> You have to tell me what I'm doing wrong. >> Roll over on your butt, bud. >> Am I doing anything wrong? >> Sit up. Am I doing anything wrong? Yep. >> Let's put him in the car. >> You're not a pig. >> Oh, prove to me that I'm not a scoundrel. >> Well, how am I not a scoundrel, sir? You're putting me in your car because I'm doing what wrong? What am I doing wrong? >> You going to set up or no? >> I'm doing what wrong, sir? >> You're going to go in the back of the car. You going to do it on your own or we going to put you in there? >> What are my rights? What's your option? >> What are my rights? >> What are my rights? You're under arrest. >> What are my rights? >> My rights are >> We have two options. Get in the car on your own or have us put you in there. Which one do you choose? >> It's very simple. We can very easily put you in the backseat of the car. We would hope that you would put yourself in the backseat of the car. Those are your two options. What are you going to do, sir? >> What are my rights? >> You have two options. Which you tell me right in the backseat of the car. Sir, I'm not going to grab your legs. You're not going to go in the backseat of the car. >> My rights are what? My rights are what? What are my rights? What are my rights? Do I have rights? I don't have rights. I don't have rights. >> There you go. >> I don't have rights. What are my rights? >> Go. Uh, >> what are my rights? Do I have rights? What are my rights? >> You start acting right now. >> What are my rights? >> Don't kick. >> What are my rights? No one's kicking. I'm asking for rights. >> All right, close the door. >> My rights are uh non-existent. What are my rights? >> He's not He's not going to let us. Uh, >> do I have rights? Do I have rights? >> I'm going to sit down correctly. >> What are my rights? What are my rights? >> You are under arrest. We are depriving you of your >> having no rights. >> We are depriving you of your civil liberties. You are under arrest. >> As things heat up, officers turn their attention to the child, making sure he's okay and working to contact his mother. >> What have I done? >> You >> driving under suspicion of driving under the influence. >> Well, I mean that's >> And if you do not sit up, we will close this car. I have right to what? >> Where is >> He's He's in the police car, so he's safe. Okay. So, he's not on the side of the road. It's dangerous to be out here on the side of the road. >> He's not He's not They're not doing everything they can to get hurt. Okay. >> Hey, buddy. >> Let me ask you a question. Who is that to you? >> Dad. One of those. >> He's your dad. >> My dad. >> Is your dad? Do you have any contact to your mom? >> Do you mind if I call your mom? >> Do you know your mom's phone number? >> Here. What's your mom's phone number, bud? >> You can call her? Give me a second. >> She He doesn't live with her mom, but >> she doesn't live. Now you got to let your mom. >> Okay. I got to talk to your mom. All right. >> Please. Okay. >> It's okay. >> It's okay. >> The child stays calm, but it's a tough situation as his dad keeps resisting and challenging every move the officers make. >> Is your Is your Do you have any type of relationship with the child's mother? >> I'm sorry. You're talking about his mother? Yes, >> we are in good >> Are you going to listen to her or would you rather listen to me? Your hands are going back behind your back. Okay, I'm telling you that now. >> Secondary location. >> There is no debating that fact. Your hands are going back behind your back and you're going to jail per policy the way we need to. >> So, I'm asking you, is it would it help if she talks you into this or do we have to do it? I haven't done anything wrong. >> That is a a moot point at this point. That's between you and the judge. >> Oh, >> you're under arrest >> because >> you have to cooperate. >> All right. You're under arrest >> because >> Because you're under arrest. You broke the law because you suspect you violated law. So, are you going to put your hands behind your back? You going to put your hands behind your back or not? >> What are my Miranda rights, Mr. Brendan? >> What are my Miranda rights? I'm not asking you questions about the crime you can commit. >> I am asking you questions about my >> Well, last I checked, sir, you're not a police officer. >> You are. >> So, are you going to put your hands behind your back? >> You're a police officer and I'm asking you what my rights are and I'm within my rights to ask you what my Miranda rights are. Sergeant, >> you need to put your hands behind your back >> because why? What does Miranda say? >> Okay, so I get everybody's info. >> Sergeant Greg, what are my Miranda rights? What are my Miranda rights? >> I'm not asking you questions about your crime. I'm telling you that you need to put your hands behind your back. But what are my Miranda rights? >> I'm telling you that you need to put your hands behind your back. >> What are my Miranda rights? You're failing to understand the question I'm asking. >> Even in the patrol car, he won't let up, arguing, demanding to know his rights, and refusing to accept that he's in the wrong. >> What are my Miranda rights? >> When he gets You got a pair of gloves. >> Do I have the right to remain silent? >> You don't know, Sergeant Frag. That's what's most infuriating to me. >> What are my rights? What are my rights? So, in a minute you're going to be coming out taken out of the car and you're going to be put back in a pair of riffles and you're going to be put in the car. >> What are my rights? What are my rights? >> We're not talking about your rights. >> Sir, you can't not talk about my rights if you're going to an arrest. >> Oh, it's not how it works. >> What are my rights? >> Sergeant R. Greg of the Orlando Police Department. >> We're not talking about your rights. You're under arrest right now. >> Oh, when I'm under arrest, what are my rights? I have rights when I'm under arrest. What are You are under arrest. >> What are my rights? >> Do not get out of the car and try to take you out. >> Oh, excuse me. What are my rights when I'm being arrested? Sergeant Greg, that's an easy question. Do you want me to tell them to you? I'll tell you. >> I don't I don't need to read them. I'm not asking you questions. >> I'm asking you questions. You're failing to give me the answer to that question. Sergeant Greg, what are my rights as a person being arrested? >> The right to remain silent. >> You can take up those rights with your attorney. >> You have to tell them to me. No, >> I don't. Uh, you don't have to me. >> You do not have to mirandise me. >> You don't have to meandise me. >> Sergeant R. Greg with him. >> Sir, I'm going to remember you said Sergeant R. Greg said we don't have to. >> I'm not questioning you right now about a crime. >> You don't need to be Miranda, Mark. >> This is true, sir. >> Because why? >> Because I'm not questioning you about a crime. >> Okay, then why am I being arrested? The only reason I'm here is because you you keep slipping your cops around the front and it's our policy. You have to go to jail with them around the back. >> You're not telling me why. >> Step on up so we can sir. >> I demand my Miranda rights. >> Tell me my Miranda rightites, Sergeant R. Greg. >> Finally, he gets what he's asking for. His Miranda rightites are read. But does that calm him down? Not quite. >> You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand that? Anything you anything you say against you in court. >> Sergeant, you have to say the same. No call shots. He's good to go. Sergeant is not randizing me. He is aggressing me. >> Put your hand behind your back. Put your hand behind your back. >> Hurting me. Now you should be able to uncuff him and get his hands back against the wall. >> Sergeant Greg is not mirandizing me. >> Sir, stop resisting. >> I'm not resisting. You're failing to aggress me. Things only escalate as officers decide to hobble him to ensure safety and compliance. >> I'm asking you to mirandize me and you were shoving me against the wall. >> I was doing that and then >> you I mean like I asked him to do it and he and you both >> You don't get to decide the way this is going to go. >> You're under arrest for DUI for what? >> Not suspicion of DUI. DUI. There's probable cause to arrest you for DUI. That's why you're in custody. >> Under what? Like can you explain it to me? 316 193 sub1 also child neglect and resisting without none >> of that makes any sense to me. >> That's okay. It doesn't have to. >> I mean, he refused to merangize me. >> You'll be able to get a lawyer after this is done. >> I don't think that's the case. I'm bored. >> I think you're all pigs. >> I think none of you opinion. >> You're not going to let me get a lawyer. >> Not a single one of you. Do you want to lay him down? >> You know, you don't have to pick me up like a dead body. >> You're going to pigs. Prove your pigs. Be pigs. Thanks. Yep. This is what pigs do. I mean, if you weren't pigs, you would do it differently. Do you have an explanation for why you're not pigs? Of course not. Why aren't you not pigs? >> Because you have force over me. A >> little bit tighter. >> Yeah. >> No, cuz we're heading now. We'll put him in a seat belt. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. He was before. I don't tried on this side. I'll go around. >> All right. All right. >> Cool. >> All right. You got your camera in your car, right? >> Yep. Just turn him on his side. >> All right. >> Going that way. >> Yep. >> Even then, he doesn't hold back. Still throwing insults at the officers despite being fully restrained. >> This hurts. I'm being abused. You don't care. Your pants. >> Oh my god. >> None of you cares. You're stink. You're okay. But you're pigs. >> Okay. You're entitled to your opinion. Well, >> my opinion is correct. >> Okay. Okay. You have my registration. Yes, ma'am. Yes, ma'am. How come you don't have the registration? >> Cuz it's in it's in a folder with all my other important documents and I took it out cuz I had to go to the DMV one day and I took it out and I left it in the house. >> Okay, I got you. >> But it's me. >> All right, you got to look for that. You're on a traffic stop. High priority. Okay, let's have some good officer safety. So, let's pull her out of the car, have her step back to the front of your car so we're not putting her handcuffs in front of her child if we can avoid that. Okay. >> Okay. >> After briefly discussing the missing registration and license issue, the deputy asks her to step out of the car. >> Oh, man. You mind stepping out for me? >> What's the problem? >> Do you mind stepping out for me? >> And I know the reason why I'm stepping out with my baby in my arms. You can put your baby in the car. We will get to that. >> Overreaction. Give me my baby. >> We will get to that. >> My baby. >> Put her in the V of the car and get her in cuffs. >> Oh my god. >> Why am I being arrested? He said he's going to get in the gas. >> And that was it. >> She claims she ran out of gas and was trying to get some. Audrey insists she only wanted help and says she met nice people willing to assist. >> And that was it. >> Oh, I saw her. >> Yeah. So, >> why is your Is that your child? >> Yes. >> When I ran out of gas. >> When you ran out of gas. So, then how'd he get out of the car? >> I carried >> Okay. You That's making sense now. So, you went down to the gas station to get gas. >> No, I did. The gas station's over there. I didn't make it to the gas station. I carried him running to go to the gas station. They were nice to black people that offered help. >> Okay. >> So, I said, "Okay, while wait, he's called. >> What's your name, sweetheart? >> What's my name?" Audrey. >> Audrey? Spell that for me. >> Yeah. She's not making a whole lot of sense. >> Yeah. So, she was like whispering almost like like she lost her voice or something when I first heard talking to her. Um, she seems to have recovered now. But yeah, this guy here who was with the girl who had the child came over to me first and was like, "Yeah, she down here acting really weird." >> Okay. >> Like she's on something is what he said. >> Yeah. >> 100%. >> Okay. Yeah. You all right? >> Okay. Audrey, when was the last time you used? >> No. >> Okay. Do you suffer from any mental health conditions? >> No. >> Okay. When was the last time you did use >> any any sort of I didn't say anything specific. just any sort of >> cuz it seems to me that you you might be under the influence of something right now based off of your behavior. Would you like to get checked by an ambulance? >> She admits the child is hers but struggles to provide clear answers. >> No. >> Okay. Cuz something isn't something's not right. >> What the came up? I'm sick because I have a voice. That's fine. I let I wouldn't ask for help when I need help. >> Sure. Sure. So, here's what we're going to do. Okay. You're going to tell me from the moment that your car ran out of fuel right here. It's you, right? >> Okay. Talk me from that point all the way straight through to me being right here. >> Talk me through everything that happened so I can get a full understanding. I grabbed my son and I ran until I met the two people there and then I ran back here because he said he got gas and I was going to put gas in my foot. That was it. You can ask her. Ask him. That's it. That is it. >> Okay. >> She's my witness. I'm getting her information right now. >> What What does she say? So she is saying that when she came up this way, >> little man was pretty much on the curb where he was walking. Mom jumped out, said that she had no gas, but she said that she grabbed >> child was on the curb. >> Child was in the bike lane, >> right? >> No, with mom, but mom was trying to hitchhike and get someone to get her gas. But she said she was concerned for child because mom was swaying and she believes that mom was incoherent and unable to give complete sentences when she got out with her. She took kid to go get warm in her car. >> Okay. >> And she just brought me back child. >> Okay. >> She said that they were driving him to dad's house. At least from what she gathered from conversation with him. Kid just told me he's going to the doctors. >> Okay. >> But he's three. >> Perfect. Beautiful. >> And uh also when she asked if we're going to call the cops, she looked like she's getting ready to run. And I said, "No, he's got he's stuck." >> Her version of events is incomplete, leaving out that she had been in the road with her son. >> So Audrey, >> you failed to mention the part when you were standing here in the roadway with your child attempting to flag someone down for help. You never mentioned that to me, but the witnesses are. So talk to me about that. >> Why did you choose to leave that out? >> I'm sorry. I wanted somebody to stop. >> Okay. Hey. Do you have a do you have a phone? >> It's in the car. >> Okay. Does it work? >> Yes. >> So, why wouldn't you call, I don't know, 911 or >> I just felt that I'm like a corner of the gas station. >> Do you know what temperature it is outside right now? >> 62. >> No, it's 45. >> Okay. So, would you think that it's reasonable to have you and your child standing on the side of the road in 45°ree weather at dusk where nobody can see you? >> We I I literally ran with him to the gas station just stopped. >> Audrey, I'm going to ask you one more time. When was the last time you used? >> I don't use. You've been testing it. I don't use. >> Okay. You ever been arrested before? >> Yes. >> For what? >> DUI. >> DUI. Okay. >> You have that in your database. >> Okay. When were you arrested for DUI? >> 2021. >> Okay. How much have you had to drink? Tonight. >> Tonight? No. Okay. >> Audrey, I'm going to give you one chance to be honest with me. And if you are not honest with me, this is not going to go the way that you think it's going to go. So, be honest with me. How much have you had to drink tonight? Audrey, how much have you had to drink tonight? >> Initially, she denies drinking but later admits the truth. The famous two drinks. Do you want one more chance? >> No. >> To tell me what it is. >> I might be back. I'm not even driving in my car. >> Okay. Do me a favor and stand up. >> Stand up. Stand up. Put your hands back. Okay. You're just going to be detained right now. I think maybe if I can get you into the warmth of my patrol car might sober you up a little bit and you can help answer some of these questions. Okay. Does that make sense? >> Hello. >> Mueller. >> You hearing what I'm saying? Yes. >> Okay, perfect. >> So, are you detaining me? >> Well, right now, uh, you're going to be detained for possible child neglect. Go ahead and drop that. >> I didn't observe you in the car. Nobody's observed you in the car. So, doing the DUI route might not work out, but child abuse. We'll see. So, come walk with me to the back of the car. See, you can barely walk on your own. Are you kidding me? shoot. >> Go ahead and have a seat. >> Two PS. >> Okay. Have a seat. >> No weapons. >> Have a seat. It was just a pat down. You're good. Have a seat. Warm up. >> Okay. So, you see how this is concerning to me that you can't even get into the back of the car. >> I don't have my glasses. >> Doesn't require glasses, my friend. >> I've already signal. >> So, actually, how did it So, you guys came out. I got to look for my glasses. >> You're good. Um, so when you you parked all the way down there, >> man. >> So, where was she? Yeah. Where was she at? >> How did she end up here? Where was little man? >> And then how did little man stay in your possession while mom is all the way down here? >> That's the thing. >> Yeah. >> Is my the mother bearing me to go on the 12th and I'm like, I can't do it without turning around. >> Yes. The witness reports she was standing in the road waving for help with her three-year-old son crying and standing dangerously close to traffic. >> You can see where his candy dropped. >> Okay. Yep. I see right there on the sidewalk. >> So that's about the vicinity standing out and she was almost all the way >> in the bike lane. So she was in the bike lane. Little man was where that little white piece of candy is. >> No, she was right here going like this. >> Yeah. And he was like right here crying. He was closer. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> And then he saw something else and we all pulled over around the same time. >> Yeah. >> Okay. And she was just trying to hitchhike and when you when you approached her, what'd you say? >> I ran out of gas. >> Okay. Then how did >> And I go, that doesn't look like ran out of gas thinking in my head. >> Yeah. >> And the way she couldn't even talk standing up. >> So then how is it she let you take Liam or were you just chilling down there the entire time and she walked back up this way? >> Yeah. >> Really? Did she tell you to watch him? Like >> Well, I was trying to make him comfortable cuz he was freaked out and crying. So I showed him my twins. >> Yeah. >> And I was like, "Here's my twin toddlers. What's your name?" Trying to make him comfortable. >> Stop crying. Yeah. >> Cuz I mine are on the spectrum. >> Yeah. Okay. >> So I was me and the guy were more interested in making him like, "What's your name?" >> Yeah. >> And cuz I couldn't even understand her. >> Yeah. And um and then all of a sudden she saw the first patrol car show up and I go, "Oh." She goes, "I don't want to get towed." And I go, "Oh, he's probably got guys just to move it. Push it. I can't. We can't push it. We'll leave it to the guys." And then couple minutes after she just, "Can you watch him?" And booked it. >> Okay. And I was like, "Yeah, he wanted to go into my car." >> Yeah. And I was like, I I I want to, so you be warm, but >> Yeah. No, I get it. Now you're like, I don't want to be kidnapping either. Yeah. Yeah. But Okay. All right. Cool. Thank you. I appreciate it. Thank you again. I'll let Ridge know. You say hi. >> Inside the patrol car, the mother turns argumentative, repeatedly demanding to know where her son is and insisting on seeing him. >> All right. Able to warm up a little bit? >> Here's my son. Where's my son? Your >> son is with us. He's in the other car getting warmed up. Okay. >> I'm going to read you something. All right. >> You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in court attorney. Okay. >> What am I getting arrested for? >> Do you do you understand each of these rights that I explained to you? >> I'll explain it. But do you understand each of those rights that I explained to you? >> No. What am I getting arrested? >> Okay. I'll read them again. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and it will be used against >> What am I getting arrested for? You're detained and so I'm trying to read your rights. >> Detained is different than arrested. >> Correct. >> So what why am I being char what am I being charged for? >> You are detained. You are not under >> detain you're going to take me away. >> Do you want me to continue reading your rights? >> Do you want to explain the difference? >> Okay. You have the right to remember. I understand that. Would you like to explain the difference? >> Having each of these rights in mind, do you wish to speak with me? >> Yes. >> Okay, perfect. >> Hold on. >> Sorry. We're seeing if your mom can come uh be going to jail today for child neglect. All right. you operated a motor vehicle while intoxicated with your child in the back and decided that instead of calling the proper authorities, uh, you would walk down the road with them at dusk in 45°ree weather. Um, okay. Does that make sense? Okay. You're drunk and you put not only your life, but your child's life at risk by operating a vehicle like that. You understand? >> You understand? >> Yeah. >> What can I help clarify for you? Despite the officer's clear explanations, she continues to push back and deny any wrongdoing. >> Here's your ID. >> Yeah. It was on the card. >> Okay. >> Okay. What did you want me to have it in my >> No, I did not want that. >> I did not want >> that. Your wife doesn't want that either. Anything else? >> Well, I was just getting ready to ask you. Do you have any other questions for me? >> Yeah, I need my mom on the freaking phone. >> Well, well, officers are talking to your mom right now. >> All right. Well, then you can close the door when they're done. >> No other questions. Cool. Uh, we'll pull you out to do a search on you real quick and then we'll get you down to the job. >> All right, Audrey, I need you to step out of the car. >> I'm detained. I I know. >> So, shut the up. >> I have to search you before we go. I don't >> give a then search me. >> I can't do that while you're in. >> All right. Well, now don't detain a if you can't search me. >> All right. We'll do this later then. >> Roger. Why are you being complicated? >> Why you being 229? What? >> What do you need? >> Well, we have to pull you out of the car. >> Okay. So, we can we can search you and you fantastic search. >> But my partner just said you were making that a little bit difficult. >> My son away from me for >> Yes. I took your son away from you. Yes. If you're going to be mad at anybody, be mad at yourself. This is what your actions led to. >> I would have walked down the road. You drove your car intoxicated with your child in it and then when we arrived you handed your son off and started to run away because you're scared of the cops. >> During a search she resists cooperating, mocking the officers and complaining about her treatment. >> Okay. >> No, >> that's >> No, I literally went to go to the gas station to pick up something. >> Regardless >> any Okay, regardless of what? >> Okay. All right. We're done having this conversation. Oh [ __ ] >> Ready? Go. Hop out. Hop out of the car. Are you going to make this difficult? Okay. Stand up. You're acting like a child. >> Yours? >> Yeah, I got you. Just hand to me. >> Yep. All right, Cindy. You just have to ask if you have anything in inside you on you or anything like that and we find it at the jail versus here it's >> know everything. >> All right. Well, if you know anything care so shut the >> f. >> He's in the backseat of my >> I don't care what you say. Shut >> Where's my son? >> I've told you now three times it's in >> my mom. Can I see him? >> No. No. No, you may not. >> Did my mom answer the phone? >> No, she didn't. >> Have a seat in the car. >> Have a seat in the car. >> What else am I going to do? >> Slide in. >> Maybe. >> Do you need a little help? There you go. >> Where is my mom? >> I don't know. She's not answering the phone >> because she's asleep. >> Okay. The state's been notified. If we can't find a parent or I'm sorry, your his father or your mother, the state will take custody of >> lean back. >> No, >> there you go. Okay, that's how you want to do it. That's I've got one seat belt on for policy purposes. >> Efforts are made to contact the child's father and grandmother with officers explaining that if no family can take custody, the boy will be placed in state care. >> Okay. Uh any names for dad or a phone number for him? >> I do not have name or phone number for dad. >> Okay. All right. So what happened? >> So we got a call for a suspicious incident involving mom and child. So we got a call for a suspicious incident about a woman who was walking in the middle of the median trying to get a four-year-old to come towards her towards the road and then pulling him out of the road. So that's what we got called out for. We get on scene and we meet with mom, but the three-year-old is nowhere to be seen. So, I go canvasing the area and I found a passer by, someone who called in, that mom was in the median with trying to get the child to come to the road. She said that mom and child were walking down the sidewalk. Kid was closer to the road than mom was. She was hitchhiking trying to get gas for her car that she ran out. Um, and the witness said that when the mom saw cops, she said, "Watch my son." And left and booked it from the witness. She does not know the witness. So, she left her three-year-old son with a complete stranger. Um, the stranger didn't take son, left, uh, stayed on scene and waited for officers to arrive. And she told us that the mom is incoherent. We can smell alcohol on her breath. Um, and she will be going to jail today for child neglect. >> Okay. Was mom originally asking the person like for money for gas? Is that how like is that how how they started? >> The person pulled over to the side of the road because they were concerned for the child because of how close he was to the roadway. That's why they pulled over. And then when they got in contact with mom, mom was like, I ran out of gas for my car. But she said the way she was talking, the way she was swaying, that the witness said that she thought mom was maybe under the influence of something. She didn't quite say alcohol, but she thought she was under the influence of something and that's why she stayed with the mom and the child until mom decided to book it away from the child and stranger to go. >> Adding to the list of troubling discoveries about the suspect, a background check reveals a prior DUI arrest from 2021. >> All right. Anybody know? Does mom have any history of alcohol abuse? >> She does have one uh previous DUI arrest. >> Audrey is taken to jail and charged with DUI and child neglect while her son remains in protective custody pending further arrangements. Number two, when your reckless night almost destroys your family. Police respond to a crash involving a suspected drunk driver with her child in the car. When officers arrive, they find the vehicle damaged, tipped on its side, and leaking gas. >> Reference, signal 4, signal 12 driver. >> That's her baby. >> Please check them. Please, >> it's her baby. >> Please, please check them. There's a lady stuck in that car. >> Hey, buddy. How are you? 16, we need medics. She's clearly impaired, struggling to answer questions and denying that anything is wrong. >> Yeah. You're being detained right now. Okay. You're walkth. >> My baby right now. >> Okay. >> My My >> Take a seat. Take a seat. >> My My baby right down the street. He sell water. >> That's it. My baby get right down the street wonder. We're taking the child to the hospital. What's your kid? Another child. Um, >> your son that was in the car with you, what's his name? >> No. >> Nobody's gotten any tags that I know of. >> Listen, don't ask questions. Just answer questions. We need your kids information. >> Well, I'll sit here and answer questions with you all day, but they're taking your kids to the hospital. >> But what's his name and date of birth? >> How do you spell his last name? >> 116. Can you give me a kiss? >> Spell his last name. >> Daddy. Daddy. Spell his last name. >> His daddy on right there. >> Spell his last name. >> His daddy right there. >> Spell his last name. >> Spell your child's last name. >> Despite repeated efforts to calm her and explain the situation. Turn around. I'm going take these handcuffs off you real quick. Okay. All right. So, the reason you were detained is cuz you were in an accident. You understand that? >> Yes, sir. >> That make sense to you? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. All right. So, you weren't on arrest. You were just being detained. All right. So, we finished the accident investigation. Actually, tell you what, what happened with the accident? Tell me real quick. >> He came in my own He came in my lane. >> He came in your lane? >> He came in my lane. He came in my lane. >> He came in your lane? >> No. >> How fast were you driving? >> I wasn't even driving fast. >> You weren't driving fast. I can't drive fast. >> You can't drive fast. This lane or that lane? >> I was in this lane. >> In this lane? >> And he came in your lane? >> He came in my lane fast. >> Okay. All right. >> So, I finished the accident investigation. All right. I'm now going to be conducting a DUI investigation. All right. >> So, I have to read you something. Don't be alarmed. I just have to read this. In the state of Florida, you have what's called accident privilege. So, I have to read this to you. Okay. >> All right. >> So, did you hear me? >> What? >> How many alcoholic beverages have you had prior to driving? >> I think I probably had like um two um wines. >> You had two wines. Two glasses of wine. >> Like two big glasses, two small glasses. >> No, two small two um and my own baby daddy right down the street. >> Okay. But you had two glasses of wine prior to driving. >> Yes. You smoke any or >> I don't smoke. >> Take any prescription medications? >> No. >> Harris admits to having two glasses of wine but denies using any illegal substances. When asked to perform field sobriety tests, here's how she reacts. >> Okay. Any controlled substances? >> No. >> So, the only thing you had prior to driving was two glasses of wine. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Do you still feel the effects of the wine? >> No. >> No. Okay. All right. Would you be willing to conduct field sobriety evaluations to see if you're safe to drive? >> I could drive. >> No. Are you willing to conduct field sobriety evaluations? >> I could drive. I could drive. >> Well, listen. I need you to answer this question. Are you willing all right to do field sobriety evaluations? >> I could drive. Yes. >> No. No. No. Are you willing to do the evaluations? >> The voluntary evaluations? I'm going to check your eyes. I'm going to have you walk. I'm going to have you stand on one leg. >> Go ahead. As the officer calmly walks her through the steps, she remains uncooperative and continues behaving like this. >> Okay. So, do you do you So, listen. The evaluations are voluntary. >> Um, I'm a little tipsy. >> You're a little tipsy. Okay. >> All right. >> So, listen to me. The evaluations are voluntary. All right. However, if you refuse to do them, it can be used against you in court. All right. It can lead to arrest for DUI. >> Okay. >> All right. All right. You understand that? >> Okay. >> All right. You want to keep doing the evaluations? >> Okay. Um what if I do the um if I do it what to do? >> Well, I can't tell the future, but I have to wait until we finish. Because not following instructions and listening to me and doing what I'm telling you to do is just like refusing to do it. >> The officer gives her another shot, carefully reexplaining the instructions. Will she get it right this time? Let's find out. >> All right. So, put your left foot on the line. >> Okay. If I'm if I'm going to jail, >> Miss Harris, put your left foot on the line. >> All the way on the line. >> Go to jail. >> All the way on the line. >> Okay. And finally, because he keeps yelling at my daughter. And so finally, I said next time, he raises his voice over and and call 911 so he doesn't know that I did it because I can't get by myself long enough just to get him to go cuz I can't stand the verbal abuse and him breaking everything every time I blink. The mother explains that her husband has been breaking household items, insulting her children, and acting in a controlling way that makes them all feel unsafe. I get I get I have to hear about that all the time and I and I bought a or got a loan and for my oldest son for his truck and and like he's in here trying to slam and everything and going on and carried on because I bought my or he thinks I only cosigned but cosigned him and choking and what if he wants something he should I should be able to cosign for him. >> Oh, I hope they let you out cuz I'll let my out. It goes to the judge and you tell the judge, "Hey, this is why this is what's going on." You know, you tell him the history.
