[Applause] >> Uh, you're just going in there doing the B and stuff. I'll take her in and I'll >> Okay. >> Yep. Ma'am, real quick. What's your first name? And what's your last name? Can you spell it for me? New local return. During her ride to headquarters, Robin expresses concerns about her daughter, who she's supposed to pick up later that evening. >> So, just to let you know, okay, we're heading to headquarters right now. It's uh like right down the road. Um uh we just got to do, you know, photos, fingerprints, stuff like that. Couple paperwork and stuff like that. and then uh we'll see what happens and and where you're going. Um I just kind of like to give people the heads up of what what we're doing. Uh you know, the more you cooperate with us, the quicker it's going to be. Okay. Okay. So, this is what we'll do. Okay. So, um when we have an arrest or anything like that, we do have a duty to make sure that your child is being taken care of. So, we'll definitely make sure when we get in, we'll give him a call and we'll figure out what what's the best course of action for that. We'll we'll definitely make sure your daughter's being taken care of. um if her, you know, if the visitation needs to be extended a little bit, I'm sure we can kind of make it, you know, an exception for that. But we'll figure that out when we get to headquarters and we'll we'll give him a call. Okay. >> Right now, right now it's 6:49. >> What What time are you scheduled to get your daughter? >> I'm sorry. I normally pick her up at 8. >> You're supposed to pick her up at 8? >> Yeah. >> Okay. How old's your daughter? >> Four. >> Four. Okay. And um I'm assuming like this is an ex-boyfriend or >> her father. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um is he uh who does he do the supervised visits with? >> His parents. >> His parents. Yeah. Okay. And you don't think there'd be a way that he she'd be able to stay there longer? >> Okay. Like I said, when we get inside, we'll call him. >> Once at the station, Robin is booked in. The entire process is orderly and there's no further resistance from Robin. >> All right. Facebook right here. This face. Yep. Right. Go this way. Take a left through those doors. Straight ahead. And then another left here. >> Hard to believe she's genuinely shocked about spending just a couple hours in jail. Such a massive inconvenience for someone who caused all this herself, right? Number four, target theft goes south when cops show up. Up next, we've got the male Karen. Let's call him a Darren. Caught red-handed at Target. And when officers show up, things go south real fast. Come here real quick, man. 22253. He's running. Still got one at the door. [Applause] 222 Mountain 41 custody. by the front fire exit. Show your hands. >> I'm at the back exit where you >> front exit. [Applause] [Applause] How's the shopping? >> What's your name, man? >> Huh? >> David Harano. >> David what? I got two over there. >> 2205. You got an ID on you? >> No. 22. >> That one. >> The officers begin questioning him while checking the items in his possession. Bye. [Applause] >> I walked in with those. You walked in with these when you're clear for name Dworth. >> First of David. >> You walked in with these? >> Yes. >> So, if we watch the target camera and see nothing else you put in your in your your bag. >> I walked in with those. You walked in with all this? >> No, just the candy bar. [Applause] >> No, >> just the foils from using it. Huh? >> All right, bring this photo over. We're going to set up. >> You homeless right now, David? Yes. >> My bad. I freaked out and I came in here and stole before. So >> So you trespass from here? >> No. >> Usually they trespass here, but it's >> I mean they didn't catch me. I'm just saying I've stole here before. So >> you going to steal again tonight or what? >> I'm not anything. >> There's a jackup along it. >> It's not yours. It's >> Someone gave it to me. >> Someone gave it to me. >> I know the tags on it, but it didn't even ring when I came in. Someone gave it to me. Okay, we'll take that off. >> They don't sell these. >> Huh? >> They don't even sell these here. >> No, it's still stolen property. >> Well, I know, but it's mine. >> Well, you're in possession of it. Yeah, but that's stolen. It's a stolen jacket. Probably from Burlington. >> I don't know. I don't know where I came. >> Well, it's it's obviously stolen cuz when purple people buy it. >> I'm not going to lie about it, so I just left it on. >> As the conversation unfolds, he admits to having stolen from the same target before, but says he was never caught. Cool. David, set up. Ready? One, two, three. Did >> you steal from before here? >> Huh? No one? >> No. You said you stole one from here before, but what' you give? So, it's more likely they IDed you and have a warrant. >> I didn't get caught in the scene. I often >> You don't have to get caught to get a warrant. Like I said, I'm never going to get a cold. Don't know why I would have a warrant. You give me your real name or no? >> Huh? >> So, you going to give your real name or no? You mean you mean what do I mean? >> Wait, wait. Give a name. >> You give a real one or not? >> I'm going to take a picture of you and send to jail. I really don't know what I don't even know what to say. Like I've already >> listened to you. That was my fault. Uh I told you everything. >> Anything else in your pockets you want to tell me about? >> What's in here? >> Yeah, I'll make a deal with you, bro. >> What's up? >> I'll give my real name, but I left my backpack back down the side of the building. Can you go get it? >> Your backpack? Yeah. >> Okay. What's your real name? >> It's Carlos. >> Carlos? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> What's your last name? >> I do have a warrant, too. Yeah. So, >> what's your last name? Anything else on you is going to You want me You want to tell me about >> No. >> Before heading to jail, they give him a thorough search to make sure nothing sketchy is on him. So, >> you have stuff in here, man. >> Yeah, that's my ID. That's >> your ID. Some money or what? >> That's Where's your You smoked at all or what? Did you go to the bathroom? Smoke it all before we got here or what? >> No. I was going to die. >> So, you have all this money and you >> I was going to I didn't grab all kind. I was getting a couple things I could afford. >> 222 center. 22. Go ahead. [Applause] >> How many pairs of pants you wearing? >> Um, just the one pair and then I got the like long underwear. >> Long underwear? Like long johns? >> Yeah. Are you waking up, man? What did you take? >> No. >> No. I I >> coming back to Carlos, New Mexico. Invalid. He also has two pots. Pull out of the key. >> Derek, I have to >> Where's your backpack? >> On the side of like on on the street side of Domino's. >> The street side of Domino's. >> Yeah. >> What's in it? Just like a jacket. >> Looks like he took land of the free a little too literally this time. >> All right, I'm making another deal with you. Where'd you Where'd you get the jacket at? This one someone gave to me. I They really did. I just I just got it today. Someone gave to me. >> This a Dickies? >> I don't know. Levis. >> Oh, nice. You probably got that from >> Walmart. >> I don't know where it came from. >> Is it Walmart or >> Scott? It didn't rain so when I walked in. So, I don't know where. Like I said, it's only 18. Okay. Have a seat over here in my car. >> What color is your backpack? >> It's two bags. >> It's two bags. >> One from One's a Puma backpack. The other one is checkered black and white. And then there's two. >> So there's one bag, man. >> There's two. And then there's a a little string bag. >> Okay. [Applause] >> Yeah. >> Along with an outstanding warrant, he's now facing a new charge for shoplifting. Number three, Target thief loses it after getting busted with $1,200 in clothes. At a Target store, a woman is caught attempting to shoplift over $1,200 worth of clothing while only paying for about $50. Staff notice her suspicious behavior, selecting large quantities of apparel, hiding items and bags, and heading for the exit without properly checking out. Security observes her closely and calls police as she tries to leave. >> Um, yeah, she basically just went around the store like selecting a whole bunch of apparel, putting a whole bunch of apparel back on shelves. Um, and then she started concealing it in bags that she had selected. And then, uh, she put the bags on the bottom of her cart, and I think one was in her cart basket. And then she walked through the check lane, took out like six clothing items, paid for about $50 worth of stuff, and then tried to extinguish the rest. >> And you guys watch it on camera the whole time or in person? >> I watched in person. He watched on camera. >> Okay. And so that's not including the $50 she paid for. >> Yes. >> That is including or not including? It is not included. >> Okay. And where are the items she paid for? Still with her? >> Yeah, they are in the office. >> Okay. She give you guys IDs and whatnot. >> Not yet. I called you guys as soon as >> That's fine. >> She's back here. >> Yes, sir. >> What's up? >> Hello. >> I'm being arrested. >> I don't know. I just got here. I got a lot of stuff to figure out. Okay, so obviously I'm here, right? And so, um, I'm trying to figure all this out with them. They've they're still in the process of doing what they have to do between video and calculating all this stuff and whatnot. So, with me being here and you being back here, you're not free to leave. So, in order for me to talk to you openly about what's going on, I have to read you a Miranda warning. Okay? Do you understand that? >> Yes. I be arrested. >> Well, no, you're just not free to leave. You're detained. Okay. >> Okay. So, because you're detained, you're not free to leave. I have to read this to you. So you and I so you and I can uh openly discuss everything. Okay. And with these rights in mind, do you wish to talk with me? >> Okay. So why am I here? What do you mean by stupid? >> I just crime. I literally stole stuff. I tried to steal stuff and I wasn't thinking. >> Why are you stealing stuff? >> I have no idea. I really don't. I was just telling him. I have no idea. I just didn't My head's been everywhere and I didn't think it had a check waiting for me for 34,000. I have no re there's no reason why I should be. I know that. >> She quickly admits to the theft saying she wasn't thinking clearly and deeply regrets her actions. >> And these are just what all did you steal? >> It's over there. >> I'm just saying what was it like? >> You're just selecting random items. >> Smart. It wasn't smart. >> Okay. So, you paid for these items here? >> Yes, I did. >> How did you get here? >> I drove. >> You drove? Okay. >> Okay. So you drove here and you're from Pal Bay. >> I'm not from Pal Bay. I'm sorry. >> Well, I meant like you live in Pal Bay. And what made you come to go see a friend in dealing with an abusive boyfriend? >> Oh, sorry. So, were these items for you or for >> Yeah, they were for me. >> Okay. >> I wasn't thinking. I literally wasn't. I was not thinking. >> Sorry. >> And I feel like scumbag and I'll never eat it again. stand up for >> Jacqueline. I got to say I've been been doing this job for a very long time and you're the first person that I've ever had commit a retail theft over $1,000 or first person ever. >> Are you serious? >> That I've had. Now, there's been others, trust me. >> Wow. That's I'm sorry. Sorry guys. I'm really sorry. Let you guys know because this will never happen. I promise you that. >> Okay. So, you came here today to visit a friend. You came to the city of High School >> and you went and saw your friend and decided to come to Target. >> Yes. >> And when you came to Target, did you come here with the intentions of stealing? No, I didn't. Actually, >> I didn't cuz I literally paid for stuff. >> Okay. >> I paid for $55 for the stuff. I bought two pairs of jeans and two. >> So, you paid for the $55 worth of stuff, but >> we're talking what did I say? 12. >> The officer questions her further, attempting to understand the reason behind the theft. >> The total is $1,223.64. So, you decided not to pay for over $1,200 worth of stuff, but you knew you >> I mean, let me ask you this. >> Do you have the money to pay for that currently? >> There's a there's a check. >> Do you have the money currently to pay for $1,200? And >> no, what changed your mind when you were walking through the store that you thought it'd be a good idea to try to take these items? >> I have no idea. I have no idea. There's no excuse for it. >> Okay. >> And I know that. So, you're just walking through the store, you selected a few items, you're like, I'm going to pay for those and the rest of them. >> Literally was talking to the girl that I get to move finger. I mean, there's no there's no excuse for it. There's really not. And I feel like >> So, you did try to hide the items and conceal and pay for just the $55 worth of stuff. >> Yeah, basically. I think Yeah. >> So, you knew you were only going to pay for a few items while you tried to scoot out with the rest of it hidden in your cart. put in a very deep way. But I mean, there's no excuse for what I did. I know that. >> No, there's no excuse. >> And it's this is a life lesson in life. I know that. >> I really do know that. I'm sorry. And I feel I do feel horrible about it. But I'm sitting here with you guys. This is a thing to do. Even better than this. >> Have you ever been arrested before? >> No, sir. >> Never been in trouble anywhere before. >> No, sir. >> How long have you been moving in the state of Florida? >> I'm from South >> I mean, I'm sorry. In BAR County. About a year ago, my grandmother passed away in February and then my mom's boyfriend got cancer and my grandfather has dementia. It's been really been it's been a nightmare. >> Officers remain professional but make it clear that the value of the stolen goods meets the threshold for felony retail theft in Florida. >> Well, um so when it boils down to it, the state of Florida and the Title Police Department don't take retail theft very lightly. Okay. you committed felony retail theft because at the threshold of $750, that is a felony amount. Okay? So, as long as you stay cooperative with me, okay, the handcuffs will stay in the front. Okay? So, that's as long as you're cooperative. If you become uncooperative, then I'll put them in the back and stuff like that. >> Yes, sir. Please. >> Do you understand that? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> But I'm begging you. >> Put your palms together out like this. >> I'm begging you. There's nothing that's going to change that. You committed a felony retail. >> Call my fiance. >> We'll we'll work on that here in a little bit. >> Sorry. You couldn't I think my fiance has $400 for it. >> It's It's already passed that. It's already exceeded that. Regardless of whether you had the money to pay for it or not, you should have done that before you went to walk out of the door. These guys, this is this is their job. >> Okay. So, this is what they get paid to do. Walmart has the same people at every location. Okay. This is their job. >> I'm begging you. >> You attempted to walk out of the store with over $1,200 of merchandise that you were not going to pay for. You paid for $50 of it. So, yeah, you get to keep that. >> I'm really sorry, sir. Please. I'm begging I'm begging. I'm honestly I'm begging you for the bottom of everything. >> Begging me is not going to work. I told you here at the state hospital, we don't take retail theft lightly. Okay? These guys tolerate more theft than actually Walmart does. Walmart calls us for as simple as $20 or whatever of theft and they want to press charges. This is the first time I've actually taken a retail theft from Target in the four years I've been here. Other people have taken them. The first time I've been here. >> Thank you. I'm really I'm so sorry. >> What's going to happen is you're going to end up going to jail. Okay. You're going to be placed onto a uh you're going to have a bond of 2,2500 give or take whatever the bond is going to be on the felony retail theft. >> Okay. You understand that? >> Jacqueline continues to cry and apologize repeatedly asking for leniency. She offers to pay for the merchandise or work something out, but officers explain it's too late at this point. >> I'm begging you. I'm really big. >> Do me a favor. Stop. >> Understand something. I'm actually different cop than most people. Most people would not let you make a phone call. I'm going to give you a second to make a phone call to your fiance to explain him that you are going to go to jail today. That there's nothing he can do for you at this current time other than prepare to get a bondsman to bond you out of jail. Okay. Do you understand that? >> Okay. And you need a photo of her? Whenever you're ready, he needs to take a photo of you. >> Okay. I don't want to hit you with tears. >> I'm so sorry, you guys. I really It's going to ruin my life. I'm so sorry. >> I've seen people bounce back from a lot worse. Trust me. >> Okay. Maybe you smile. >> I'm so sorry. >> Oh, I'm I'm sorry. I need you to take off the glasses. >> What do they do with the car? >> It's part It's going to be part of that this phone call she's about to make to the fiance to say, "Hey, I'm going to jail. I'm going to come I need you to come get the car or whatever the case may be cuz >> Sorry. I'm so sorry. >> The only reason I say so is Target doesn't want leftover." >> I know. And and again, that's on you guys at the end of the day. If you guys end up want to tow it, that's a private property tow for you guys. There's nothing that we'll do um because it's private property. But this is where we I give the opportunity for somebody to come get the vehicle before you guys tow it. You actually shouldn't be driving on your license anyways cuz it's suspended. >> Is it really? >> Yeah. It's been suspended since May. Go ahead and make a quick phone call to your f your fiance, please. >> Has it really, been? >> Yeah. Don't know why I didn't look into it. But >> during processing, they find her license is suspended. She's allowed to make a phone call to her fiance to explain the situation. Put on speaker form, blue. Thank you. >> Babe, you're on speaker. I'm being arrested for for theft. >> Why? >> Cuz I just I was made I made a decision and I can't I can't get through. Can I talk to Can I talk to them, >> baby? >> Yeah. >> Can I talk to them? >> Hello, it's Officer Mc Tel Police Department. >> Hey. Hey. Do is there a way I could pay it and and y'all could just give her a written arrest, please? >> No. So, she committed a felony retail theft and we have no leniency when it comes to felony. It's over $1,200 worth of merchandise she attempted to walk out of Target with. So, I'm I'm a reasonable cop. Okay. I'm That's why she's allowed to make this phone call. Most cops would not allow her to make this phone call. They would tell her she could call you when she got to the jail. This phone call also served as a purpose as a courtesy to let you know that she's going to jail and that you need to get something done with her vehicle because if not, then Target's going to eventually tow the vehicle, which is just going to add on to the total uh it's going to cost you. >> I I got your key. Is there a way is there a way she could leave the keys with Target and I will >> get them? >> That's up to I'm I'm here with two other employees. Is there a way that the keys could be left with you guys so he can come here and retrieve the car? Yeah, you can put it up with guest services. >> Okay, they will put the keys with with guest services. Okay. >> Can Can I double check with her? >> Yeah, she's right here. >> What's What's her bond going to be? >> Uh up. It's going to be over 2,000. It may be 25. They've just recently changed the bond schedules, so I'm not >> What's that cash for? So that I know. >> Well, cash would be whatever the bond amount total would be. So it' be 2,000 or 2500, whatever it ends up being. What? What do I What am I going to have to pay a bonds person? >> A bondsman is typically 10%, but you would have to call a bondsman and let them and and and figure it out. They make their their thing. >> I can't pay the bill. I know what I'm saying. >> Okay. >> Officers explained that restitution isn't an option at this point. And walk him through the process to retrieve her car and belongings. >> All right. That's >> So, if it's 2,000, it's $200, give or take. >> All right. Um, >> baby, >> I can't pay. >> Can I talk to her? >> Yeah, she's right here. >> Hey, wait. Seriously, I want my hands to get him. Yes. >> Hey, hey, just just just relax. I I'm going to call Bons immediately and tell them to watch for you to be booked. >> Do not tell my mother. >> I'm not going to say nothing, babe. But I need you to just stay calm cuz they're not going to release you until tonight. >> Okay. >> Can you please my location officer? I know I didn't know. I'm 36 years old, but I have to start my location off. >> Sure. That's up to you. I'll let you do whatever you need to do. >> Yeah. Tell my mom I just wasn't feeling good and I went to bed. >> All right. I got you. >> I'm sorry, babe. >> It's fine. Just >> All right, sir. We'll leave the We'll leave a key with guest services and uh what I if it's up to her, I can leave your purse in your car as well if you would like. That way everything's together >> and that way you're not taking a whole bunch. Y'all could just leave Is there a way you could leave the keys in the car? Do you have Do you have a spare key? >> No. Oh, you're going to lock her purse in her car? >> Yeah, I'm going to lock the purse in the car. Give >> another key. >> Yeah. So, no. I would give the key to guest services, but I would lock the car with her purse in it because >> Okay, that's fine. >> That way, it's just easier whenever you go down to jail. Yeah. The less you go with the better. She purchased $50 plus dollars worth of merchandise anyway. So, we'll leave all that in the car. Um, >> might be out. I don't know when you'll be out, but we'll leave the key with guest services. That way, we can come get the car. Is there a time frame that he has to come get the car? They don't like cars left overnight. So, >> no, it'll be before the night's over with. That's my head. >> They close at 10:00 p.m. So, make sure you're here by 10:00 cuz if not, they call us because there's random cars in the parking lot. So, >> Jacqueline's keys are handed over to Target's guest services and her purse is locked in the vehicle for her fiance to pick up. >> Um, is there now officer, I know you said you and you're doing a lot and I appreciate everything you've done. Um, is there a way you could write my number down and let me know when she's been booked? >> I won't know when she's been booked. What I do is I take her to my police department, I type up the paperwork, then I take her down to the county jail. Once they take custody of her, I leave and then they start the booking process. So, it'll be anywhere between now, it is 3:00, it'll be now between between now and 5:00 when she's booked into the BVAR County Jail. Okay. >> All right. >> All right. All right. Can I Is she right here still there? >> Hey, beautiful. >> What was I thinking, >> baby? Just stop crying. I need you to be I need you to to to to to man up if you will. I love you, okay? And I'm calling upon right now. Um I I'll pay them however much to get you out as soon as possible. Okay. When you get to jail, babe, you know my number, right? >> Huh? >> Yes. >> All right. When you get When you get to jail, just call me and I I'll put a lot of money on the books and we can talk the entire time. All right. >> All right. We're going to get off here so I can get this going for you. Okay. >> All right. I I love you. >> Love you, babe. I'm sorry. >> It's all right. I love you. >> Love you. Bye. Thank you, officer. You guys, I'm so sorry. >> Bless you. >> Thank you. You good? >> Yeah. >> All right. So, you know, you know the only number you need, right? >> Yes. >> I'm going to put your phone on to do on to I'm going to turn off the cell service. >> Okay. Um because if not it's going when you get to the jail it's going to do nothing but it will turn it off as well but it will do nothing but try to find signal and I worked in there and there's no finding signal in there. >> Despite her emotions the officers remain courteous and focused on procedure. >> All right. Um where is the merchandise at? Did you guys I just want to get photos of some of the stuff. So >> you good to hang out for just a second? >> Yeah. Like I said, this is first time I've come here to take a retail theft. And >> what's really weird, they don't let us call you guys? I used to work for Walmart. >> Yeah. >> So, how'd you get this call? Just because of how much it was? Figured I mean threshold 750. So dog leash like if this was like sometimes I have sympathy when it comes to here I've got the top bottom of that. If sometimes if it's like things that are necessary like I need I need food I need my kids need whatever like that's different in my eyes. Okay, that should have been everything you got here. Bingo. Okay, that's good for me. Thank you. And then I'll have we'll get you to sign that top BTO. Um I just need your ID and then we're good to go. >> All right. Um so just briefly, I've got her side of the story. What got you into seeing her? But what intrigued you into watching her as she was selecting items? >> Um, there's just a large number of apparel selections in her cart already and she would put back selections and then select without looking at prices. >> Store staff speak with officers and explain exactly how the theft unfolded. >> Would you observe as she was >> um observe her putback merchandise and take other merchandise and sell merchandise and bags. >> And those are the three bags that were out there. >> Mhm. and she was just filling them full. >> Yes. And then uh she went through one of the check lanes and um only paid her about $55 for this stuff. >> I know there's items that are in the buggy currently. >> She also uh ripped open the headphones package and took the headphones out and was holding them in her hand. >> Those were the red ones that we saw. >> Okay. And you followed on foot? >> Yes. >> And you were watching here? >> Yes. >> And you kept eyes on her the whole time >> with the cameras and what? Okay. >> All right. Can you raise your hand? You got the right. There you go. You spread the statement about the whole truth. Nothing but the truth will be God. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. All right. I'm gonna let you answer Brandon's phone call real quick. I don't know why he's calling, but >> Brandon, it's Officer Mick again. >> Hey. Hey. Um, is there a way if I pay pay what she was trying to steal? >> No, there's no way. What? Like I told her, the way here in Titusville, the way we see it is is we don't like retail theft in our city. >> Um, I got so we and especially it's a felony. It's something that I have no discretion on. If it was a misdemeanor, I would have cut her a court date. As long as she had no prior thefts, I'd have cut her a court date. She'd have been able to leave. Um, with it being a felony, she's got to go. >> All right. All right. I just wanted to ask cuz I have the money to cover what what it was. >> I have to 12 I have to,300. >> Unfortunately, the only way that would work is if Target said otherwise. But I don't think they're in the business. >> Is there a way you could ask them? It's not even my >> targeted. It's targets decision. And these guys here, they're it's not something that they do. >> As a lastditch effort, her fiance calls again trying to pull some strings and avoid jail time. >> Theft is committed. They uh >> it's over with. No, they'd have to go up to corporate and get Yeah, it's it's be it's way above that. Okay. >> All right. I just My bad, man. I was just I was >> Not a problem. Listen, I understand it's a lot of confusing things. A lot of things you want to ask. try to get things settled, but she should have thought of you having the money to purchase for all the purchase all this stuff whenever she was uh was making the selection. So, >> I got you. >> All right. >> All right. >> All right. >> Thank you. >> Yes, sir. Byebye. >> I turned off every service and he still got through. >> Right. >> Turned off sale, Y, Bluetooth, everything. Um, did she pass all points of sale through the vestable or and that's where you guys stopped her at? Okay. And that's on the video as well. >> Yes. Okay. >> And can I see that portion on video? Do you have it pulled up? Sorry. >> No, it's okay. I see you. I see her right there. She pays for those. And all the items are underneath in the Y. >> Thank you. >> Well, at least they're at the front of the store. Walmart's in the very back. So, you walk through the whole store. Oh, you're walking really quick. >> It can be. Like I said, Walmart's at least in the very They're at the very back of the store and you have to walk down the main aisle. Sorry, >> people. What is it? Just like am I getting locked in for real? >> No, this is just a seat belt for your safety. Okay, >> thank you. >> All right. Do you have any Okay, so then I also give this discretion. All right, so upon entering the Boulevard County Jail complex, okay, it's a no concert ban. Do you have anything on you that's illegal? Anything up top? Anything? No sir. >> That's inside anywhere that it should not be. >> No, sir. >> Okay. I asked that now because if we get there and they find it, it's an additional charge, >> which is the $5,000 increase. >> I don't have anything. >> Okay. So, >> as she's taken to jail, Jacqueline expresses regret while officers walk her through the booking process, letting her know her bond will be set at about $2,500. >> And the I'm >> This ain't a debit card, but it's >> Oh, my the Okay, >> so this will go into your purse. >> I will lock it. Where's your car at? My car is right over on the corner. It's a red Lexus. I think it's right down. >> Is it down this? It might be down this aisle. Actually, the next aisle. >> Okay. >> Right in the front. >> It's a red Lexus. >> Yes. Two door. >> All right. And so your purse and all that will go into your car. You want to leave your keys here at Target so your fiance can come pick it up your car. >> Yes, sir. Yes. >> Okay. All right. I'm shut the door. Yep. >> Hello. >> Hey, Brandon. It's Officer Mick. >> Hey. >> Hey. We just got to the jail. It's going to be $2,500 bond. Okay. >> Okay. So, what do I >> Sorry. >> That'll that'll be like 300 to the bond. >> Yeah. A shoplifting call turns chaotic when police arrive at a retail store and find a woman refusing to leave after being asked multiple times. The woman, later identified as Lata Evans, is accused of wearing store merchandise without paying and behaving erratically. Here's what happens when the officers speak to her. >> What's up, Anthony? >> How's it going? >> You guys want first charges? >> Yeah, she's she's been like kissing people with babies and has already her merchandise wearing it. >> Oh, she has your merchandise on? >> Yeah. >> Hello, police department. I haven't done anything wrong. >> Miss, >> what have I done wrong? >> Okay, listen. We don't need to escalate this. >> What have I done wrong? Then can you please let go of me? >> Listen, I've already told you. They've asked you several times to leave. >> Who is they? They haven't asked me to leave. No one. She's already wanted for burglary and ditching court. Now add assaulting a cop, shoplifting, and resisting to the mix, bringing her bail to a whopping $67,500. Number one, Karen's scam backfires when cops call her bluff. Police respond to a target after a woman tries to pay for items using what turns out to be a fake $100 bill. The woman, named Cassie, is detained while officers investigate the situation. >> Okay. Hello, ma'am. I I didn't take >> Okay, you're being detained. The handcuffs come off just as easily as they go on. Okay. But we have to check into it. All right. >> So, right now, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be against you in the court of law. All right. This talk. >> Why am I in trouble? [Music] Ma'am, I just explained it. All right, you need to listen to my partner right now. Okay. >> Okay, let's go in there. So, we don't want to add >> Let's go. Let's go over here. >> And I gave the $100 bill and he checked in. He said it was probably said, "I didn't know." And and he said, "You have a payment." And I said, "My friend, I lost my friend for money." And he said, "Okay." And he put the purchase on hold. I was walking out to the car to go get money from my friend. Okay. But I didn't know. >> Okay. Is a $100 bill in there? >> Yeah. >> Okay. You mind if I grab that? >> If you hand it to me, can I get it loose? >> I'm not letting you get it. No, because I don't know what's in here. If you have a gun, a knife. >> The very front pocket. It's in the very front. >> This very front one. Okay. >> Is it a buckle or is it a snap? >> I didn't know it was a >> Okay. >> This one right here. >> Yeah. >> And I even had it checked. This is a drone. >> I checked through the princess cuz I got it from somebody on Offer Up today >> and I didn't know it was fake. I sold a TV today. >> So, where did you get the money? >> I got it offer up. I just sold a TV on Offer Up today. >> But I didn't know. >> She immediately claimed she didn't know the bill was fake, explaining that she received it earlier that day from someone else. Okay, >> she's like my position >> and I'll even file a claim with offer up because you can file arbitration. I did not know, sir. >> Bill.com. >> Yeah. So, I mean, the font on this is it's not even crisp or clean and doesn't have that watermark as well when you look up. >> Yeah, there's a there's a line in on on >> I checked it. I checked it. Yeah, there is. I checked it. You can see it. >> I did check. >> Looks like somebody tried to like draw it on. >> I specifically checked the bills when I got the money from the guy. >> Yeah, I'm good. If you can see where uh Garrett may have gone to carwise. >> Do you guys have the pen? Oh, test pen. >> Yeah, if you want to grab a test pen, that' be great. >> And the and the associate said it's clearly >> Is this the only one you have now? Yeah, I had some 20s, too. But I spent those already. >> I got gas and everything and I didn't have a problem anywhere else. And I checked the bills. You even put I even put it up in the sky and I saw the watermark in there. So, I thought they were good. >> There there is a watermark. >> There is though. >> Yeah, I don't see a lot. >> If you put it up If you put it in the side, you can see it on the right side of the bill. And on the left side, there's a line. They even has the little number line on the left side. I'm not an expert, but I mean, they look rude to me. >> He's just going to hide the cash and then it'll be back. >> No worries. >> To see if it smears the ink in the seal and you can see like the black. >> Oh, yeah. It's clearly Yeah, you can see it's like leaking through as well. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. But he's the team member will come over and >> if you guys need a statement from >> We will need a statement from him. >> Despite her claims, officers aren't convinced. Cassie continues to insist it's real and that she's the victim. And what's your first name? >> Cassie. >> Cassie. Okay, Cassie. How much was your bill that you were trying to pay for? >> It was u I was buying a I was buying a remote control hand and a camera. So, but I was waiting to see if she wanted me to buy the remote control part. So, we put it back cuz we wouldn't get it. But my bill was like 25 something. >> Okay. And um how much other cash do you have with you? >> None. >> None. You said you had 20s. >> Yeah, we just got gas. I just filled up the gas. I just filled up the gas tank before we got here and we went to Kohl's and I bought shopped there too as well. I even I even went on that website that's listed on the bill and it's an actual website. >> I thought it was kind of weird. >> And then what So what did the >> It's a track my bill. So you can put in the serial number on the website and you can see everywhere the bill's been and where it goes. >> Okay. And what did it kind of cool? >> And what did the website say? >> It just put it let me put in all the information on the serial number and everything. You just register with them and then you put in like your email so that it can like track you when you log back in and stuff like that. And then you punch in the number on the front of the bill and that's how you track where the bill goes. >> Okay. And then they didn't tell it like the website didn't say where it's >> I didn't get that far. It just registered. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> You can see it though, can you? Barely. I don't I honestly I mean I see where the ink smudged but I don't actually see >> there's on the left hand side there's a a strip in the bill. >> Well I know there's the strip >> that's all that's what I thought you look for when you are looking for money. No, that's not all. There's there's actually like a picture of of one of the presidents like ingrained in the bill in a very like faint way that when you hold it up to the >> There is one on that bill. >> There's not. >> Can I show Can I show you where >> they examine the bill and notice that the ink smudges and key security features are missing or forged? >> If you put it up to the sky, you can see his face on this side, but right where your finger is. Right there. It's supposed to So, it should be like right here is where you should see like the face. >> I thought that the strip goes on the left side, the face goes on the right side. >> No, it some of the bills are different. >> So, this is I'm going to be transparent with you. I'm going to take you back in my car. We're going to do a little bit more digging on some stuff. Okay. I'm not making any promises on what we can what we are or aren't going to do. Okay. We just got >> I might be put in a police car, but I didn't do anything wrong. I didn't know. >> Like I said, did I say I'm taking you to jail? No, but my daughter my my daughters are back in my hotel room by themselves. >> Okay. What about uh Garrett? >> Garrett's not related to me. >> Yeah. Why can't he watch him? >> I'm not going to leave Garrett with my daughter. >> Who's Garrett to you? >> He's my friend Samantha's ex-boyfriend. He was just giving me a freaking ride. >> Okay. How old are your daughters? How old are How old are your daughters? >> 13 and four. >> 13 and four. >> It's wash. >> It is washed. So, you can see the faint $1 bill. >> Is that why it passed the bill test? So, >> yeah. >> To sell on offer wash. >> So, let me take you back to my car real quick. I'm not >> Can get Can I give Jared my my stuff to take >> I'm not saying you're going to jail yet. Yeah, if you're I got to figure out some stuff. If for some reason if you do go to jail, I will let you give him your stuff, okay? But you just got to hang out with me. I got to figure some stuff out, okay? It's been a while since I handled one of these cases. So, there's a couple things I can do. Um, but I can't lay it out what I'm going to do right yet because I don't want to make any false promises. So, but right now, I'm just going to take you to my car and we're going to figure out some stuff. Okay. So, I sand up. We're going to go out. I I'll come back. Both of the drone. >> No, not the drone. Just this. Okay. I'll grab that back for you moment. Okay. >> Can you bring it with us, please? I don't feel comfortable leaving me alone. >> She's then placed inside the patrol car. Still emotional due to the turn of events. >> So, just do me a favor. Just take a seat in here. I'm not even going to buckle you up because we're not going anywhere. >> Can I please just sit right here because >> I got to have the door shut cuz I got to do some stuff. >> I'm like really close for >> I will roll down the window. Please >> take take a seat in there. >> Please be closer. Christian, please just sit on the sidewalk. Please. That'll be really good. >> You need to sit in there. Take a seat in there. Oh, I'm scared. I have such bad anxiety. >> And I'm going to roll down the window so you get fresh air. My >> balls are moving and I have the fear of coughing. I've been in trouble before in my past and it just freaks me out. >> So, have I ever been to so far? >> No. >> Have I done anything disrespectful towards you? I'm being as transparent as I can be. The longer you delay this, the harder it is for me to be more lenient and all that stuff. I'm trying to help you out and look up some stuff and see what other stuff I can try and do. But if you longer delays, I'm just going to do with what I what I have right now. >> Leave the door open, please. >> I had to shut it. I'm going to roll down the window, though, so if you need anything, you can ask me. Okay. Watch your foot. Okay. >> When officers search her bag, the situation worsens. They find multiple IDs and credit cards, all belonging to different people. >> My ID. >> Why do you have someone else's ID? >> No, it's my that's my cousin's ID, and I have permission to have it. >> She left it in my car. She's at my hotel room right now. Cassie. >> Yes. >> You've been contacted by the police 164 times. I know how many times I've been arrested, but that doesn't mean that I'm that doesn't mean that somebody didn't give me fake money when I sold my TV to them on Offer Up today. I'm sorry. I'm hard up on a little bit of cash and I had to sell my TV so my kids could eat. >> I'm sorry. >> Forgery. >> Yeah. You've been the victim of a theft before. Yeah. Is that right? >> I've been stolen from >> Yeah. >> Yes. >> That's what I'm asking. Uh, you've unlawfully issued checks before? >> Are you still using? >> No, sir. I'm actually clean and sober. My c my cousin and I are in a hotel room with my kids because I don't live at my other house anymore because he's still >> identity theft. >> No, I know, sir. I know my records. >> Well, the only reason I bring this up is because this is a very specific set of offenses, right? >> Okay, I understand. But my cousin, >> if I open up one of these forgery arrests and I read the report, is it going to talk about uh fake bills? >> No. >> Cassie acknowledges her criminal history, but maintains that the money and items in the bag are unrelated to any wrongdoing today. >> None of them. >> Never. >> Okay. I don't really believe you. >> I promise. I promise you won't. >> Go ahead. Open them up. >> It's fine. >> My So my bag, my purse. >> Yeah. is not my purse. It's my cousin's purse. She left it in the truck and I didn't trust the people in the truck. So, I brought it with me. >> That's my cousin Lily's bag. >> Okay. So, if I open those forgery reports and I read them, am I going to see a whole bunch of stuff about uh licenses? >> No, that I don't have a bunch of license. That's my cousin's purse. >> 1 2 3 4 five six different licenses in there. >> That is my cousin's purse. I don't know. >> Cassie. >> No, dude. Come here. >> ID with a whole bunch of other stuff with her credit cards in here. >> Okay. >> Pull your notebook out. >> Oh, yeah. The girl that told me the TV. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. She gave me her ID to copy it. >> So, why do you still have it? >> I don't have her ID. >> It's right here. >> Come on. Okay. >> No. I swear to God, sir. I show you the offer right now. Cassie, we're we're to the point now you've already you've already dishonored yourself. Okay, I'm to the point >> That's not my purse, dude. It's my cousin's back. >> After all the backtracking and sketchy answers, the officers just aren't buying her excuses anymore. >> I'm to the point now where I'm only making myself looking bad. >> Listen, can I can I be honest with you? >> Let Please, please be honest with me. My daughter needed a camera for her school project to get it done this weekend. I found that $100 bill and I came up here and I tried to buy her the camera. I really didn't know it was fake. I swear to you that is my cousin's bag. Lillian's bag. Not mine. >> Why does Lillian have your license? >> I don't know. I swear to God I did report it. I did report it. I thought it was lost. I didn't know she had it. I swear I'm being honest with you. I am being honest with you, >> Cassie. This is the problem, okay? You can't just look me dead in the eye and say that you're being honest with me when you've already lied to me. I can't. >> I'm sorry, but I didn't want to be in trouble. I didn't want to be in trouble. >> You have extensive forgery and identity theft history. And there are six different IDs right here. Lillianne, uh, is it Dasco? >> Dalazo. >> Dalzo. Uh, >> Ann's checks. >> No, she was with She was here with us. >> One little guy. Uhoh. >> Look at all the others. >> She She's been red, right? >> Yeah, she's been red. Hey, Cassie. Is that >> I don't know if they >> are good at I don't know. >> I forgot it's Lilian. >> Even with all her emotional appeals, officers discover illegal substances in her bag. She insists they aren't hers and claims the bag belongs to her cousin. >> Wait, you guys work with me? >> I can send I can set anybody up. I will do whatever. >> So So that >> I know somebody who's running an identity theft right now. Can I talk to you? >> So, where we're at today, I cannot go any further with that stuff. There's too much here. But >> hear me out. You're going to see someone in the morning. >> Yes, sir. >> Get out. I better get out. >> But if you Cass, Cass, Cass, Cass, >> Cass, can I please talk? If you don't want this on your, you know, if you want to try and work that off, that's going to be a conversation with the prosecutor. I can't make that determination at this time. Okay? There's just too much stuff going on. >> I didn't know it was smell like >> and and I'm going to document that. >> I reported my stuff stolen. >> Okay. And I'm going to double check and clarify that stuff. But you have, you can see how this looks to us, right? I'm not trying to not trying to do anything like that. I'm just trying to be honest with you. I've been honest with you this whole time. You have extensive fraud history, right? Yes. No. >> I have history. >> Yep. You have past You have past fraud history. Today, either you know or didn't know, you tried to use a a fake $100 bill. I know you say you don't know and I'm going to document that. I'm not going to leave you high and dry and saying she knew this was a fake $100 bill. That's not right by you and I don't do people like that. If you're telling me you don't believe it, I'm going to document that you didn't believe it. But in addition, >> you're with you're in possession of a bag. >> So, can't I set my cousin up for a bag? >> I'm going to document that you send that. >> Why can't I have why can't she be arrested for doing >> because So, what do you think? genuine mistake or just another one of the many lies she told today >> because all she because >> she left it. >> So So let me say I called her. She says, "Oh, I don't know where my purse is. It must be stolen." Then it falls. >> So what did she say? She did. >> She did what? >> Left it in the truck. >> Okay. >> How did How does she know Garrett or whoever? >> She gave us a ride. >> Okay. >> When When was she dropped off? >> Right before we got here. >> Okay. Do you know her phone number? >> Yeah. on top of your head. >> If I call her, she's going to say that you weren't supposed to be that you could have her bag. >> She's going to tell you that she left it in the truck. >> Okay. I I'll give her a call. >> Uh let me know if it's just a waste of time and I'll >> Lily call and take responsibility that she didn't tell him that she left the bag in the truck. >> He's on the phone with him right now. I'm not lying to you. I swear. >> Okay. Well, we'll figure it out. We'll figure it out. What What am I supposed to think though? I mean, you have all this stuff. Your ID is in there. We look at your criminal history. You've got extensive forgery and identity. >> I understand, but he's even calling because it's not my bag. It's Louis's bag. >> We'll get to the bottom of this. >> Tell your husband that you reported your ID and all that missing. >> Yeah, he knows my ID is missing. >> You didn't tell me that. >> Yes, he does. He knows my ID is missing. >> So, why would he lie to me about that? >> I have no idea. He I I just lost it, sir. >> I I believe that you probably just lost it. But why would you not say that? Why would he say that you haven't reported it? >> That's not true. He knows I've reported it online. >> I just asked him. I literally just got off the phone and asked him like, "Yeah, do you know your wife's ID is missing?" He's like, "No." >> If he does, call him back right now. >> No, I'm not calling him back. >> Sir, can you call Garrett, >> the guy that drives the truck? He can tell you where we left that bag in there. >> And if she left it in there, that's not the issue. But if she takes the issue, then I can then I don't have to get in trouble for her stuff. >> The issue is you're in possession of it. There's >> me. >> I never I never said that. I said I could help you. I never said that. It's all going to go on her. >> Help me. >> When officers decide it's time to transport her, she resists and tries every trick in the book to stall. for a session. >> Okay, she's going to >> Hey, >> she's fine. She just got evailed. >> Hey, >> Cassandra, we're either going to pull you out of this car or you're going to walk out. >> Okay, I >> That's fine. We can get her for obstruction. She just does not want to Oh, why don't we just search her? We can search her while she's on the ground. That's fine. Let's just search her. >> I'll try. >> She's literally just [ __ ] up on. So, why don't I just search her real quick and then make sure she didn't leave me a treat. >> All right. Well, >> oh, and her eyes are open now. All right. >> Oh, yeah. She's blinking. She's fine. >> Go. >> Can you get your feet under you or you stand here? >> Okay. Let's go. >> Uh just we're going over here. Okay. Just uh >> let me know the outcome, Helms, and uh we'll go from there with charging documents. Eventually, she requests medical help and they agree to take her to the hospital before heading to jail. >> We're going to take you to the hospital. Okay. >> Why? >> Well, one, you requested to go to the hospital, right? >> Or would you rather us just take you straight to jail? >> Why was that on the ground? >> Okay, let's have a seat. >> We're going to take you to the hospital. Okay. >> What? You You literally told me like five times you want to go to the hospital. >> You want to go to hospital, right? >> I asked you to move my cuffs cuz my shoulder surgery. >> There you go. >> They're double cuffed. >> Yeah, you're you're fine to send together. >> It's okay. You're perfect. >> Sir, both my shoulders have had surgery on and it hurts my arms. And he said if he had a thing that he would move to the front. >> We don't have it though. >> Nobody has one. >> No, because that's because that's for a custody. It's for jailers. >> So, how do you transport a pregnant woman? >> We usually we usually don't. >> No, we not. >> That's not true. I've seen several pregnancies. >> Okay, I'm not going to argue. We're going to go watch this. >> Watch your foot >> so you can be cleared to be booked in. >> By the end of the encounter, Cassie faces multiple charges. Forgery, possession of illegal substances, unlawful possession of others identification, and obstructing justice. That's what happens when you mistake a target run for a free-for-all.
