Who knew arrested on the job wasn't part of the employee handbook? Here are five cases when entitled Karens get arrested at work. Number five, she needed to pay rent, so she stole from her job. Store management calls the police after noticing a series of cash shortages. The losses add up to $3,700. And after checking transaction logs, they confirmed the cashier is responsible. Officers arrived to handle the situation. Yep. Daniel, nice to meet you. All right. So, I have cashier in the office. I just finished interviewing. We've had several shortages up to $3,700 in shortages. So, she just admitted to all the theft. Um, she's going through some hardship. She says she's pregnant. Um, so that's where we at right now. She's been very cooperative. Um, so this is this would be for you guys. Okay. So, the total is about 3500. It's actually 3,700. So, I'll I'll take that off. But it gives you the breakdown. Was that when when you go back to this, I see um was this actually this one was confirmed? No, this is what's confirmed. 3500. Okay. Okay. And the 37. Right. Right. So, I only could prosecute the 3500. I'm just letting you know. 200. Yes. Um, this is all of her information. This is how we look at stuff, right? The shortages. That's her LDAP, how she logs into the computer. So she we know who is the one that's actually driving the shortages if that makes sense. And then now it has a breakdown. So how she takes it the total for that day. Okay. And this has been going on since May. No, since uh August uh 10th. So short period of time. Yeah. Yeah. She's only been with us uh actually July. She's been only with us um Oh, she's been with you since May. Since May. Yes. Yes. So, I started July 12th. And does she work just a general register up front or where where she Yeah. Uh well, it's a couple registers. So, register one, register 18, uh register two. So, and then when you talked to her, she's like, "Yeah, I did it hard on times or or what was Yeah. So, you know, her reason. She's trying to get away from her husband is what she said. I did ask, "Hey, uh, you know, for safety reasons, are you being abused?" She said, "No, he's just not helping me and, you know, I'm pregnant and he's not working or anything. So, I got to get out of that situation." Store security hands over evidence, including logs that show exactly when and how much money was taken. They also have surveillance footage that clearly identifies the employee. So, um, you know, what show you guys video so that way you can see some of the transaction? Yeah. Yeah. What, uh, what kind of like tips you guys off all that? You just started noticing money missing. So, yeah. So, every every day, right? So, we get a report and it'll show you, hey, we were short $20 in this case. A lot more, you know, a lot more money. So from there um because we have a lot of cases, we send it to our central investigation team in Atlanta and they start doing the digging. Yeah. They go back and they Right. Right. And then they put this together so that we could continue other investigations. That's crazy. Yeah. It's pretty cool. But I mean if you guys need this, you know, to do this must be happen quite a lot. Yeah. That package is for you. Yeah. Do you have their information? Century Investigation. um like the name of the investigator company or just the company name, right? No, it's Home Depot. Yeah, it's Home Depot. It's just they're just called CIT, the centry investigation team. So, because we deal with a lot of shoplifterss and other internal cases, um they help us out. Okay. I that's solely what they dig into, not only in like multiple districts. So, on one day she took $1,100. Yes. How like what? How do you think that's not? Moments later, officers confront the employee and read her rights. Um the officer's here. This is Angie. How you doing? And that's Laticia. She's the final supervisor. She Okay. Thank you. All right. My name is Daniel. I'm with the Apothe Police Department. So, we're basically just looking into what happened. Uh, so the first thing I'm going to do is no disrespect. I'm just going to read you something. Okay? You've seen like Cops and all those shows and stuff. So we Yeah. So we just want to make sure that you know your rights. So I'm just going to read this to you. Okay. So just if you have any questions, just let me know. If you don't understand anything, just let me know. But you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say may be used against you in court. You have the right to speak to a lawyer before and during questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed to you before questioning without charge. Do you understand? Okay. Do you have an idea on you by chance? Um, I feel like Okay. So, I mean, you you kind of have an idea on why we're here, but can you just explain what happened on with your side of the story just so that we can get it? [Music] The thing was that I'm going through a lot of stuff at home right now, financial hardship, and that's the reason why I did it. I'm pregnant right now. And you know, I just I can't I don't want to bother my mom. She's going through a lot too right now. Okay. I told them I was willing to cooperate with paying them back and all that stuff. Okay. Right. Right. She quickly confesses, blaming financial struggles for the theft. So, paying them back? What do you mean paying them back? Um, I told I made a statement where I told him I was willing to cooperate with making arrangements to pay the money back. Pay So, money back. So, the money that was taken, right? Yes, sir. Okay. Do you know how much that was? Uh, 3,700. 3,700. Okay. So, you're aware that that was what was taken, right? Yes, sir. I'm aware. Okay. Do you have a rough idea on the time frame for when that happened? when you started doing that to when you ended? Oh, no. I don't remember. Can you give me a rough estimate? Like, do you remember when you started taking the money to? I would say um with a month. A month. Okay. So, you would say uh we're in August now, so July. Um I would say yeah. Okay. July. Sorry. Taking in July. Okay. And and this and I don't want to put words in your mouth or anything, but the reason you said was because of the hardships, right, going on at home. Okay. Okay. Does that look like Yes. Okay. So, you're familiar with that? Yeah, I'm familiar with everything they show. So, so this is you in this photo? Yes, sir. Okay. Um, this was on July 30th. Does that one look like you as well? Okay. Do you remember anything about that? That one? What do you remember about that one? Okay, I'll keep it out so you can see it. Yeah, I remember all of that. Okay. And this this was just happening throughout the shift. You were just taking the money out. And as officers lay out the evidence, they press for more details, ensuring they gather all the key information about the crime. Okay. What did you were you um I'm going to show you all these pictures and tell me if this looks like you or not and if you remember them. Uh that was on August 5th. Dates right here. Yeah, he showed me all Okay. I I just want to Well, we we didn't we don't know what's been shown and what hasn't. So, we're just trying to get it straightened out for our sake as well. We're trying to understand everything. Okay. We want to hear your point of view, too. The 12th. Does that one look like you? Yes. All of it. Okay. These. Okay. All right. Um, when you're going through a hardship and obviously what what are what kind of things are you needing the money for? Well, I was reuniting the money because where I stay at, um, I live with my husband, my husband, he lost his job. He had been for a long time without money. So, I was reuniting the money to move out from where I Okay. out away from him or you're trying you guys together just trying to get out from where you are? Away from him. Yeah. Okay. I was going to take a separation from him because honestly, you know, like ever since he lost his job, I've been the one that's been paying the rent, that's been doing everything. And sometimes we've been even backed up on the rent and you know, like I I do have good family members that could help me, but my mom right now, she's going through so much she could barely pay her rent. You know, I don't want to lie to her. Okay. Okay. So, you wanted you wanted to move to another location. Yeah. Is what you're saying? Okay. Did do you have in mind what that location would have been? Just a cheaper location. Yeah. Orlando. Orlando. Okay. Do you have any how many kids you have or just your first one? My first one. Yes. Okay. And it's your husband's Yeah. We're not legally married, but in Puerto Rico when you've been with someone called And how long did you say that was? You guys have been together for almost four years. Four years. Yeah. And he lost his job and Yeah. He just started working, I guess. The woman is completely honest, confessing everything to the officers without hesitation. And do you have any of the money um that was taken? Sue, no. No. Okay. That's why I told him I was willing to do arrangements. Okay. Yeah. And then I watched some of the video from these. Um can you tell me about the green bag? The green bag is where you put the money. That's where you give it to the cashier and she counts the money. Okay. And what happened when you put the money from the register in those bag in the green bag? Where did that green bag go? It never went where it was supposed to go. No. Where where did it go? I I would take it with me and and save it. Okay. So, take it home. Yeah. Okay. So, where I I maybe have missed this, but what happened to the money that was taken, the 3,700? Oh, that's what I that's what I was telling the gentleman that I saved it up and gave it for the uh partner. Okay. Okay. It went towards rent. It went towards towards a new place or your current place. Oh, the new place. It went towards a new place. Okay. Have you ever been arrested before? No. Never. Never. We Well, we appreciate your honesty. Um, no. Because honestly, I'm just going through so much. That's why that's why I told him, you know, um I'm not a bad girl. I don't do stuff like this. I only did it because at home is so bad right now. We we acknowledge that, you know, you seem like a nice person and I didn't know about the help. I would have looked into that. You know, I wanted to I would we Yeah. I mean, we we want you to, you know, get help and everything and we we acknowledge that you've been helpful with us and and you know, people make mistakes, okay? So, don't look at this like this is the rest of your life, right? Like you you made a mistake, but you know, you know, you have to own up to these mistakes and they have, you know, mistakes do have consequences. You know that. So, just just take that in mind moving forward. Okay. Despite her cooperation, she's still placed under arrest. To minimize embarrassment, officers offer to cover discreetly once she reaches the car. Here's here's here's the issue, right? Um is that it's a decent amount of money that you took, right? Yes. So, it is a felony, right? Okay. So, we do have to take you to jail today. All right. We want to make this as easy for us and as easier for you as possible. All right? We don't want to try to embarrass you. We do have to walk you out to the car. We don't want to walk you out handcuffed. Okay? But that requires you to cooperate with us. Okay? Um we'll walk you out to the car. We'll handcuff you at the car. We don't want to try and embarrass you as much as you can. I mean, obviously, it's stressful enough. Do you know how long I'm going to be in jail? No, I do not. You'll you'll be provided a bond. So, you won't be able to bond out. Um, and if not, you'll be able to see the judge and he'll be able to look at your case, but you being never have been arrested before. Um, they may just release you on your own recgnissance. So, it I I can't make that call. It's totally up to a judge, but I can just tell you from experience. Okay. Um, they'll consider how you behave, your your like you said, your past record. Uh, you've been cooperative with us. So, just, you know, just keep work with everybody over there. be respectful to them. Do what they tell you and whatever happens, that's that's up to the judge to decide. Okay. Do you want to take your apron off or anything like that? Yeah. Oh, can I call my family? Yeah. Just one phone call, please. Yep. All right. Have a seat. I won't bunker you in yet. We already have a statement. Do you already have her statement? We already have a wet statement and a reimbursement form and everything. We get all that before we call you guys. Okay. So, um have y'all have y'all reported the the money missing in the past? No, we did. That's what we're doing today. We came to investigate it. We found it today. She committed to it. So that's policy to call you guys the day of. And y'all do y'all are missing that much money? Yes, she's already confirmed it. We have it. She took She She confirmed it. Yes, she Well, I'm asking is does someone confirm the deposit? My loss prevention is an office. Okay. That's why that's why I was making sure. I was like, I'm the district manager. So, we that's what we're doing today. We get all the investigation, do all the hard work before you guys get here. Okay. So, she's already wrapped up in a bow. Okay. Let me go ahead and uh call my sergeant real quick and then I'll just uh I'll I'll meet you back. Oh, well, it's in the front. I was just walking down so she didn't know. Okay. Hello. Hey, Miss Whitney. Good. How are you? I'm fine. Deputy May with the sheriff's office. Um so I'm I'm here because of Well, obviously I'm pretty sure you know why I'm here. Okay. So, um, do you need to talk to her anymore? Are you all done? I can talk to her now. And Okay. All right. Well, I'm going to read you a couple things. I'm going to read you something real quick. Okay. All right. Cuz right now, I'm starting my investigation, okay? Based off of what they've told me and what you've told them and stuff like that. I don't want to start asking you a bunch of questions and you not know your rights. Okay? So um when officers arrive, they already have a written confession along with documentation of every missing deposit. They read her rights and begin their investigation. So Miss Whitney, you have the right to remain silent. Okay. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. Okay? You have the right to talk to a lawyer and have him or her present with you while you're being questioned. Oh my god. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent you before any questioning if you wish. You can decide at any time to exercise these rights and not answer any questions or make any statements. Do you understand each of these rights I've explained to you? Yes. Okay. And I know you've talked to them. Um but obviously I have to I got to ask a couple questions. Probably some of the same questions they've asked. Um do you do you want to knowing your rights? Do you want to talk to me too? I would assume so. I'm sorry I can't hear you. I would assume so. You would. So that's a yes. Yes. Okay. Here I'm going to What? I'm going to do Can you Can you spin the chair that way I can see your face? I'm sorry. Maybe like put it up against that. There we go. All right, Miss Whitney. Um, so tell me what's going on. Why Why am I Why am I here? Made a bad choice. Okay. What What choice was that? looking for help. I tried to go through the store. You tried to get your own help. Is that what you were saying? Like with So, tell me how you did that. Tell me what happened. Um, pretty much I had a situation and I had a bill that had to be paid to. Okay. I've been trying to pay it back little bit by a little bit. I don't know what you mind what I asked. What bill? Um I had some medical bills. Some medical bills and stuff. Yes. And just everything on top of house bills that I had really fell on some hard times and I didn't know what. Yeah. She immediately starts explaining her side, saying she took the money because of financial struggles. As questioning continues, she becomes emotional. Um, when did you when did you first when did you first take money? Honestly, um, that you can remember. It's been a minute. I think that's why it's been taking so long. Okay. Have you taken it over time or just like one like like one one deposit or like how did that work? It was it was like probably like once or twice. So now here I am trying to put the deposits back like it and so let me ask you this. How how much did you take in total that you remember? Um he's saying there's 496 850. Does that sound about correct as far as like how much you took? I mean it would have to be. Yeah. Because you took you took that much. Okay. Was it like you said once or twice? Um, I mean, for me to just have two, you know what I'm saying? Yeah. Two deposit. Yeah, I know. Sometimes the store makes you you drop it after so much. Yeah, I I get that. I used to run Subway a long time ago, so I know how the deposits and stuff work like daily or or hourly or whatever. Um, okay. So, you say when was the first time you took it? Just give me an estimate if if you can't remember a specific day. I mean this I'm just I probably wouldn't really but I started getting sick a couple of months ago. So So it was probably within a couple months until when was the last time you took it? Do you remember? It hasn't been I just been trying to Okay. So what I you know what I'm So it was like a one time thing where you took maybe like two deposits and then I was trying to trying to feed it back in or whatever. Okay. Um the officer digs deeper trying to piece together exactly how the theft was carried out. Okay. So, how did you do it if you don't mind my asking? How did you take the money as far as I mean, I just took it out the store. Okay. Are are you like a key holder or something like that where you have access to the deposit? Yes, sir. So, you took So, you took the money, you took it out of the store. Um, and then obviously you took it with you or whatever. Okay. But pretty much all I've been doing now is just trying to balance the deposits out until I got the money back paid. You know what I'm saying? Okay. And apparently, you know, it caught up. So they c So they caught it and they Okay. All righty. Um Okay. Have you ever done anything like this before? Not I was like I'm a good a good woman. I I really fell in some bad times that I made the worst of my life. And if I would have known I'd be where I was, I swear I would have done that. Like I have kids and stuff. Okay. Do you have your ID on you anywhere or? No, sir. Not everything is okay. So, I'll just go ahead and get your name and date of birth and stuff like that real quick. What's your first name? I know you've already Have you filled any sort of form out with them? Okay. All right. Do you want to do you want to fill out a form? Like fill out one of my forms also just kind of telling me what you did or I mean it's going to be the same as what they have. I mean, she expresses regret, claiming she never thought it would go this far, but that doesn't change the reality of the situation. Well, my So, mine So, that right there is I'm not sure what kind of form they have. Mine is a sworn statement. Okay. So, mine is what I'm you're telling me. Obviously, I got this on body camera, but then we put it in writing. Then, I swear you to what you're telling me is true. Okay. So, that is that is completely up to you. You don't have to do it if you don't want to. I can't make you um if you want to. You can always just swear to the statement that you've made verbally and you don't have to write it all out if you don't want to. So that's all up to you. Okay. So would you want to I swear to the statement verbally? Okay. Just go ahead go ahead and raise your right hand. Okay. Do you swear and affirm that the above state the verbal statement you greet your knowledgeable? Okay. Um just just to ask real quick what was the how were you putting it back? Were you how how were you trying to put it back in there? Like balance it out? Were you just trying to feed some of your own money in every now and again? Yeah. Okay. Do you know how much you might have paid back by the time? Not as of right now. No. Okay. All right. Like I was still in the process of of of paying it back. You know, it's nothing I would have done. Okay. And I heard that you might have you you might still have some of the money or is that or is that just your money that you're trying to pay back? No, I um I still have a little bit of the money. You still have a little Where is that at? Over at the house. Um actually, yes, it is. It is at the house or it's not here with you anywhere like in your car or whatever. Here. Uh see at the house in the bag or could be in my in your van. Is your van here? It is. Okay. Would you give me consent to look for it that way I can find it? Uh um yeah. Okay. All right. We'll we'll do that here in a moment. It's too hot for me to go outside and sit there and come back for this that whatever. Okay. So, we'll get this done here first and then um You have your keys on you. Is that your purse or is that someone? So, that's my keys are actually Despite her cooperation, the law is clear. Stealing from an employer has serious consequences. The officers remain professional, but there's no avoiding the fact that she's headed to jail. Are they in your van still? Probably up front. Oh, up front. Okay. You got you left your stuff up front. Were you coming in to work today? Uh, yes sir, I was. Okay. All righty. Okay, Miss Mo, just kind of sit tight for me real quick and then we'll I'll kind of explain the next couple steps for you. Okay, ma'am. So, obviously her van's going to be here whenever she leaves. Are y'all want to tow it or y'all allowed allow her to have someone come pick it up? Okay. Okay. I just want to make sure. [Music] Yeah. Okay. I'll let her know. Um yeah, mom. I know. Um I'm so sorry, mama. That's Whitney. Do you want How do you want your van taken care of? My mom can come get it. Okay. Now, we going to have to leave the keys up here with someone. That's fine. Okay. Do you trust him to hold on to the keys until mom gets here or do you want one of us to hold on to the keys until Okay. Okay. I just want to make sure. I just I don't want to I didn't want to leave your van here cuz they sound like they're going to let let it sit until someone comes to get it or whatever. Okay. Um I guess they taking me to Walton County. It'll be Walton County. Yes, ma'am. Mom, I don't know. I don't even know if I'll get a bond today. I I don't think so. Not today anyway because of the amount. Um, but you can Don't quote me on that cuz I'm not a booking specialist. the booking specialists up there, they whatever you're getting charged with as far as the statute goes, they have a a a worksheet that tells them if it's a first appearance or if it's going to be But I believe it's a first appearance charge. I have to go to court first. Well, it's not court. It's you see a judge in the morning and then he gives you a bond. Okay. At this point, reality sets in. The officer explains that she'll be arrested and taken to jail where she'll have to wait to see a judge. So more than more than likely I'm going to have to sit tonight until in the morning. Like 4,000 and something. Mama, please. I'm already stressed out. I'm so sorry. Mom, would you let her know to go watch your kids and all that? Just please go and the kids. My purses at the house. That card, that EVT card is in there. Um, just go ahead. Reggie going to have to know. They going to get ready to take me. Yeah, cuz we got to get this going that way. We're not sitting here. Okay. I'm so sorry, mama. I'm so sorry. Tell Tell Mama you call her back. Okay. I'm going to leave my phone and stuff here and just tell daddy to stay by his phone. His number is the only one I can remember. Okay. Well, you can take your phone if you want. I can. Okay. They said I can take my phone. You can take your phone. The phone. They'll allow you get phone numbers off of it if you need it. Okay. Okay. All right. Well, I'mma take my phone with me, mama. Okay. You tell my kids I'm so sorry. No, but it's done now. Okay, let me go so we can get this process over. I'm so sorry, [Music] mama. I got to go. Okay. Do you have anything else on you other than No, not that I could think of, but they will let me get my phone. Yeah, as long as you're cool with them, um they'll allow you to go into your phone and only your contacts to get a number and that's it. No texting, no doing any of this cuz once you do that, then they got to act on that. Okay? Cuz they can't allow you to do anything else. Shortly after, she's placed in handcuffs and taken to the patrol car. Um and you don't have anything else on you? No pockets or nothing like that. Okay. All right. Well, I got my sergeant here. She won't help me with that. Okay. So, um just go ahead and turn to bring your back for me. Okay. So, at this time, you're being placed under arrest for grand theft. Okay. Don't try and put them on too tight. You got small wrists and small hands. But hey, do me a favor. Can you turn your wrist like an Okay, turn this one this way. Yeah. Like a prayer. Okay. That'll help you. It'll be a little bit more comfortable for you. Okay. All right. It's not too tight or anything, is it? Okay. I got to tighten this one up a little bit. Like I said, you got small wrist, so I don't [Music] want Okay. stuff here. You almost done uh getting that stuff loaded up onto the thumb drive. Okay. He punched me in my head with the All right, let me figure out what's going on. Okay, give me a second. Hey, man. Let me talk to you real quick. So, what what is happening? Why did you feel the need to do this? I work here. I don't care if you work here. So explain to explain to me why did you feel the need yesterday? We're receiving a McLean truck. Nobody the store is closed. Nobody's allowed in the store until the truck leaves. Okay. I I understand that the store is closed. But why? Listen to me. I don't Listen to me. Answer my questions. Why did you feel the need? The store was closed and she was in the store. Nobody's allowed in the store until that McLean truck leaves. So So the store is closed. No one's allowed in. So you kept her in the store. I didn't keep her in the store. You were on top of her, bro. You watched the camera. You were on When I got here, I saw you on top of her. I I don't care that you work here. You want me to clock out, then you arrest me? I don't care what you do. Explain to me why is it that you felt the need right here, sir? If you want to explain I'm trying. You're not answering my questions. Explain the call 911 during the emergency. Okay. So, was the procedure to jump on top of somebody? Watch the camera. So, explain to me why did you feel the need to keep her inside the store? What are you showing me? When the officer presses him for answers, the employee struggles to explain himself. Meanwhile, the shaken victim recounts the ordeal while the worker acts as if he did nothing wrong. My father ID 911 from our office start. You're at 10 0025 South Orange Avenue. Okay, you're not answering my question. Do your job. Okay. So, answer my questions then. I'm trying to do my job. Why did you feel the need to to to be on top of this woman? Hey, don't walk away from me. I'm trying to talk to you. He punched me in my head. Sir, I would not. Do you want me to call you an ambulance? Do you need me to call you an ambulance? Kilo 33. Can I have FDB51, please? I'm here from Uber Eats. Sorry, boo. He wasn't in the front of the door. Could you explain to me what happened? I came in. I'm parked in this side. My boyfriend's a parad. He's in the car right now. You got a female with a head injury. And I walked in. I didn't park in between. There was two trucks here. Not all 7-Eleven clothes. When they're when they're shipping, I walked in. He was not there. The the freaking guy Josh, he's going to be like, I don't want nothing to do with it. I don't know if he's scared, but he was taking the order. I have him Uber Eats order. Okay. So, he was doing it and the guy came from behind me and he was like, "Ma'am, you're not supposed to be in here." I don't know. And he starts locking the door and he's like, "I'mma punch you." Okay. All right. So, try to calm down. Let's start from the beginning. So, you had an Uber Eats order. Yes. I walked in. Nobody was there. If he would have told me the store is closed, I would have cancelled it. It's not that serious. You were able to walk in? Yes. That door, the left door that we're looking at on our left was open, sir. I came, I spoke with Josh. He asked me what was the name. I told him the name. He asked me, he was like, "Okay, well, my sister was a little messed up. Can you read me the order?" I told him the beef minions. He said, "Okay, I got it. Now I know which order." He started doing that. This guy's yelling at somebody, a man outside. Then he comes in and he's like, "Ma'am, you can't be in here." So, I'm telling him like, "You can't talk to people like that cuz he's coming off very hostile." And I'm telling him, "I'm here Uber Eats." And Josh is telling her because she had the order, but nobody can be in here. And that's when he starts freaking out. He starts locking me. Seriously, imagine just trying to pick up a Door Dash order only to get attacked and held hostage by a 7-Eleven employee. Absolutely brutal. Calm down. Calm down and punch you. And we're in this aisle with a yellow bag of chips right there is. And he hits me with one of the scar in his hand. And then he sits on me the whole time there. And I'm telling him I can't breathe cuz I couldn't breathe, bro. All right. Do you want to press start? I just came over here. All right. Do me a favor. Wait for me outside. Can I go to my car? Yeah, that's fine. Wait for me outside. My partner's on his way. All right. Okay. All right. Thank you. What's his name? I couldn't get it. Can we can I can you crack it so I can talk to you? What is that? I work here, sir. Okay. I'm doing my job in the plant. Get on the ground or lay the police. Get on the ground. Put your hands behind your back. Put your hands behind your back. Stop resisting your back. Stop resisting. Stop resisting. Get your hand behind your back. Y I'll get you work. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. As officers move in, the worker resists, only making things worse for himself. He tries to argue his way out, but the cops aren't having it. My car is ready. Any9 can assist on emergency north. Spread your feet. Spread your feet. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. When we tell you to open the door, open the I have to go by 7-Eleven guidelines, sir. I know. Orlando, don't give me any of that. Yes, sir. You have anything on you that's going to poke me, stab me, or do anything? No, sir. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. Let's go. Hey boss, do you have access to the cameras? I do not personally. My boss is trying to get a hold of me. Yeah, if he he does he have access. My boss? Yeah. Um can we get on the phone? See if he can come. I can talk to him if you want. A whole bunch of craziness. Whatever. Basically, Kareem tried to tell the commoter, "Sorry, I got the shakes and I get the nervous jitters around cops. A c customer come in for a Door Dash and C was telling me customers were coming in. He was trying to tell the store was closed and he had an altercation with a customer more or less. And we called the police and then they ended up coming up here. if you want to talk to him for a minute cuz they want cameras. When police ask for security footage, the store manager conveniently claims the cameras have been down since the day before. Talk to him real fast. Okay. No, the cop. Cop. Okay. Uh, you're on speaker. Hey, sir. How you how you doing? It's officer Mendes with the Atlanta Police Department. Hey, how are you? Good. Um, so my question to you is, so we have a little bit of situation as your employee said. We're just trying to get access to the cameras to see what happened. Um, is there any way you can come and we can review the camera footage? Uh, unfortunately that camera system is not working since yesterday. Only one camera is working out of it. I just noticed that yesterday when I was going through the cameras because I wanted to take a look at something and entire system is not recording anything for some reason. Okay. So there's nothing recorded for today. Not for yeah since actually day before yesterday there's nothing recorded in I already called the I already called the guy come and fix it but he hasn't been been up there yet. So only one camera is working which is actually facing the door and that's about it. Okay. Um thank you sir. What was the situation? Um, so we're still trying to figure out, but from our our understanding is that your employee um battered one of the customer or hit one of the customers and was preventing them from leaving. Um, so right now and then so when we talked when we tried when we tried to talk to your your employee, he wasn't compliant and he basically locked himself in a door. Um, okay. So that's where we're at right now. Um, that's all I can say right now. But, uh, thanks for your help. No, but is he still there or he left? Who? Your employee. Uh-huh. Uh, he's going to be going with us. Oh, he's going to be going with you guys. Yep. Okay. You guys are taking him in? Mhm. Yep. Okay, that's fine. Uh, can I talk to Josh, please? The guy who called. Okay. Are you willing to write a statement about what happened? I don't know the full statement. I've gone to sleep. Meanwhile, another employee who was there the whole time insists he has no idea what happened. All I saw was hands all the customer legit. The store was closed. Okay. I didn't see anything that happened in that back aisle. I was over here trying to do my truck up the back. Incident happened back here. Correct. And you didn't see what happened? Yes, sir. Okay. What's your first name, man? Kareem. What is it? Kareem. Kareem. Yes, sir. Why did you lock yourself in the office over there? Locked yourself because there've been a lot of breakins around here like the guy says, draft racing, um, speed racing, Uber, all types of stuff. And we got robbed three times. Okay. Did you not know that they were the police? Man, there's so many offices in the area because this is a distribution area. You are Orlando. Orlando is that way by the end boy. Kiss me is that way. She said she was from Oyala County or something. Okay. So, why didn't you open the door? I'm not supposed to. Only one person supposed to open that door. Okay. You see they have police uniforms and they were they were ju just wait. Let me finish. And they were trying to talk to you. So why didn't you open the door? Because everybody anybody can police. I got to go by with the owner. Before you went in the office, you were talking to them, right? I mean, he was pretty cool to be honest. He's pretty cool. But so what what made you go in the office and then put yourself behind the door? I'm just unloading and putting up the freezer, sir. Okay. What were you putting up to the glass when I came to try and talk to you? My ID. My driver's license ID. Is that what that was? Yes, sir. Okay. Is there a reason why you couldn't hand them your ID before I got here? I mean, that door just popped open to be honest. And you supposed to just I don't know, bro. I'm supposed to slide it on. Sorry, sir. Now cuffed and in the patrol car, the employee tells his side of the story, denying any wrongdoing. Okay. uniform. Do you know why the police phone? Because we had an intruder. Okay. And what happened between you and the intruder? There was a female and she said she was going to grab a order and we didn't even complete the order yet. Okay. And then she kept saying Josh, Josh, Josh. Josh. I'm like, who is Josh? And then Drake and Josh. I mean, I know it was Josh, but Okay. So, did you like ask help her or try to ask her to leave or what happened after that? I said, "Ma'am, um, like how did you get inside the store? Was the front door locked?" The front door it was a mop. The cleanup mop and everything was there. How did I mean? Okay. But the door was still open, right? It was still unlocked. Waited until y until y'all get here. And then when y'all get here, then like he was pretty cool. He's pretty cool. I mean, if this is Orlando, then there's Orlando, but the other sheriff and then and then Okay. What happened with between you and the lady? The lady? You were asking her to leave or something or what? No, I was just telling her don't move, chill, relax. She was like she's um and put her Crocs down. I guess she was hyperventilating or something, man. Okay. Did you Did you take her phone from her? No, I told her to just put her phone down and Josh is going to pick it up and put it in the basket. That's all. Why were you telling her to put the phone? Because she said she has an order and you're trying to help her and just because she's inside the store. We don't know how. I mean, she's a young lady. I'm not trying to harm her or anything. I'm just trying to get my job done cuz shift change might come. What time does the store close? The store never closes. Okay. So, if the store never closes, how was she intruding if the store never closed? Because she wasn't with the McLean. The officer tries to make sense of his conflicting statements, but nothing adds up. She wasn't with the who? Mlan, that big old ATM with a truck that was parked right there. So, because she wasn't with the truck, that meant she was an intruder. When you froze the store, when you freeze the store, the store leave the paperwork. There's paperwork that we got to go back and double track and that's it. Okay. I mean, I I understand y'all are busy and stuff, man. But, uh Okay. Did you and did you and the lady in the store get into any kind of physical altercation? No, I was just like, "Don't move them and let her breathe. She went forward. I went backward. I didn't touch her. Didn't hurt her over. I her some So, how are you letting her breathe if you didn't touch her?" Because she was talking to me. Okay. We tried to help her out. Josh just had We have a time when at at 6:00 we got to be gone. Okay. So, she came inside the store. It never closes, but it was closed now. I guess you were very good. Okay. I'm asking you questions that you should know is the employee cuz you previously said that the store never closes. So, I'm trying Oh, I mean I'm trying to clarify how if the store doesn't close and there's nothing in the front of the store to make someone, you know, like the doors being locked or a sign saying that the store is closed, how is she supposed to know that she can't come in the store? And then how would you then interpret her coming in the store is her being an intruder? She's in trouble because the old ende that came here said anytime somebody come in the store like that always check around um when the boss come he handles that between them to whatever property is going on right here sir I just do my job and go. As the questioning goes on it becomes clear his story is full of inconsistencies. Okay. So, she came inside asking about a Door Dash order just between her and the person at the counter and then you were trying to tell her y'all didn't have no orders. I said, "Ma'am, could you pause for a minute?" She said, "Okay." I said, and we told her, "Hey, the procedure here, Uber does not own this store. Uber a lot." Like, for example, ask Josh what the double order is. They got nothing to do with me. Okay. I'm doing my job, my inventory count, and trying. Okay. You're saying that she didn't want to leave the store? No, ma'am. How did she get inside the store? That's Well, the front door was open. So, she walked in the store that 18 truck. That door only opened for the 18-wheeler truck at that moment. We closed the store. I mean, whatever they doing over there. I got I got I got two more questions. Yes, sir. Number one. Okay. Did you try and call the police or anybody if she was intruding in the store and wouldn't leave? I talked to my boss and I told you the story. So, did you talk to your boss or did you talk to 911? I talked to my boss, the guy that signed my paycheck, the guy that puts the money into my account. The guy that I work for, I work here from He makes his schedule. Today is Thursday. And do you remember having a physical altercation with that young lady that was a physical altercation with anybody? Okay. Do you remember what happened during this event at all? Yes. Other than coming in her asking for the door dash and then asking her to leave, we told everybody that the store was closed between the McLean and 7-Eleven and we're doing our inventory which is a sit down. Did you hold her down at any point? Hold her? What do you mean hold? Hold her down on the ground. Keep her prevent her from getting up. I was on my back. Like you were on your back. Despite being caught red-handed assaulting the woman, he refuses to take responsibility and even tries to paint himself as the victim. How did you end up cameras in their shirt? Well, we asked about the cameras and I guess the the manager or whatever says the cameras aren't working. What manager? The one that we talked to on the phone. There's no manager on the phone. Okay. So, who did your coworker in there call on the phone that we spoke to? Between him and him. Okay. All right. No worries. All right. Last question. Is there anything else that happened here that you think we need to know in regards to her intruding in the store? And that's between at 711 and No, I'm just doing my job, sir. I'm at I'm just I'm at work. I got another job I got to go to at 6:00 a.m. I'm just doing my job here and that's it. How long have you worked here? I've been working here since 2021. 2021? Yes, sir. Okay. All right, Karine, slide your your knees back real quick. I don't want to hit him with the door. All right. He's charged with multiple offenses, including false imprisonment, battery, and resisting arrest. Number one, entitled employee takes $100,000 and tries to play it cool. A Pep Boy's assistant manager takes advantage of her position and steals nearly $100,000 worth of merchandise. Over 2 years, she secretly sells tires and an engine under the table to a rental car business owner, deleting transactions from the system to make the sales disappear. Police are called and begin their investigation. $97,000 over the past year. Most of that was tires. $57,000. So, basically, she has a friend that owns a rental car company on Orange Avenue, and he brings his cars here. She writes a ticket, puts the tires on his cars, and then deletes the ticket. And she said he pays her $50 a piece for the tires. And they average $170 a piece is the one she's given him. What's this guy's name? the guy that she said he goes by CJ, but she said she thinks this is his real name cuz she also gave him an engine that's worth over $25,000. She wrote up this ticket, but he has the engine. He took it. This is not paid for it, but she believes this is his real name. Okay. So, yeah, like I said, I can give you copies of all this or give you originals and make copies for myself. But um in addition to all the tires, she also been uh defrauding us through lift. She's been ordering lift rides, charging them onto bogus work orders for herself, her kids. She's having lift go pick up her kids at Harmony High School in St. Cloud and drive them here after school. And then she's getting rides for her boyfriend and for CJ. So lift rides was like $1,800 in fraudulent lift rides. The This is all over the course of last year. The lift ride was 3 months, August through November. That was recent. The engine was recent. Um, a brake job to the guy that where she loaded all the tires last week into the Mercedes. They also did a brake job on his car for $1,462 and that wasn't paid for. And what vehicle came here for that brake job? Uh, it was a Mercedes. Um, same one. when they're loading tires into or different. So, that's the Well, that's the only one I saw cuz that was the most her scheme works for a while, but a company audit eventually exposes missing inventory and now all her monkey business is out in the open. Saw her do that on it was Friday uh evening where they waited till the store she's the assistant manager. So, as soon as the store manager went home for the day, she had that guy back the Mercedes up to the first bay door and then she she helped roll the tires out and they stuck them in the back of the Did you get a tag for that car or does that show any of your camera? I don't it it may be on a let's see if it's on a ticket Mercedes. Yeah. So, apparently assistant store manager over the course of the last year has been mainly stealing tires, having people some guy named CJ who has a rental company but that it was a temporary tag so there is no tag on it but she said that the tires were not for him but sometimes she said she uses this guy to do courier services to like deliver maybe merchandise to other pet boy stores. So basically she called him and said, "Hey, I need you to take these six tires to my friend, which basically she stole them for another friend, and the guy with the Mercedes basically just delivered them to her." That's what she's telling you, right? Right. Right. Okay. So, yes. So, somebody down in Orange has a rental company business and she's been stealing tires and giving them to that guy. That guy pays her 50 bucks each set of tires. It's a lot less than what the tires are. About 126, he said. Um, she also gave a engine to somebody for free that was valued about 25,000 and breaks recently breaks for about They confirmed that she's been selling stolen goods for a long time. On top of that, she also gives away a high value engine and had unauthorized repairs done on personal vehicles. And then lift rides from August to November. Um, she's been $1,800. picked up from high school brought here and her go places and stuff that all isn't so over the past 12 months she admitted to 97,41285. And how are you guys tracking transactions retires? So, we did we did get a report. Um, we have a report that is called the uh an audit nonfinalized special orders. And this store flagged as like the third worst in the entire company. And so, the district manager came in here, I believe in August to do an audit and inventory the tires because basically we had and I want to say it was about $98,000 that was never went through the register that we ordered and paid for. but were never rung through the cash register. So, he came through, he did find some tires on the shelf, but a lot of it a lot of it he just couldn't account for, but at that time, nope, they didn't know, you know, they couldn't explain it. But her activity on that report kind of stopped on a dime in August cuz he came in and started poking around. So she just found other ways now to steal tires by just, you know, throwing them on the the rental cars. Moments later, officers confront the employee. How long you been? Two years. Two years. Peppa. Oh, wait. How old? Peppa. What's the best? Um, honestly, the mom pops. The small ones are the best. Was there a reason you left? because money distance. Oh, wait. You live? No. Um, I used to work in a tough gun at St. Cloud. Okay. Okay. Well, yeah. Got it. Okay. So, the reason why we're out here is I guess your employers are concerned about something. We're not just trying to figure everything out of the story and just see anything. I'm not interpret. Okay. So, like I said, I want to get your side of the story just like how I got their side of the story. So, before that, I'm just going to read you some questions right. So, you have the right to remain silent. Do you understand? I say yes or no. Anything you say maybe against you in court. Do you understand? Yes. You have a right to talk to lawyer for your question. You understand? If you can lawyer, 111 will be provided for you before questioning without charge. You understand? Yes. Has anyone threaten you or promise anything? [Music] After being read her rights, she scrambles to justify her actions, claiming she was just trying to get by. What is so that happened? Um working for these guys. Um and everything else the workers that you're seeing right here is this one right here. Okay. Okay. This is the engine that um this is the amount here for the engine. Yes. Okay. So that's where I came up and took the engine um without paying for it. Okay. I haven't been paying for it either. So he's supposed to bring back the um Okay. Um when was he supposed to bring it back? Don't know. Um I got this one here. George is one of my friends. I did a great job for him. So he's going to come in and make payments for it. Um he is going through some electronic now as well as child support you know how child support and everything goes and all those stores but he has the same story. All right. So he's been working minimum and everything else because on that so I hope not. He said he's going to put up. So I don't know if he I don't know if he's on but technically I don't have a job anymore anyway. Huh? Tell you that. Yeah. Oh, okay. These are so basic. Oh, yeah. Okay. What's What's with that? So, I from August, September, October, and November. Okay. So, lifts up here. 12 hours straight. No, nothing. That's working. Yeah. You see how much health they have right now? Mhm. Okay. It's just two people. Okay. Okay. You see how busy it is? Okay. How do you expect me to very hard? Are you single mother? Yes. Very difficult. So, I see the cliffs on the back. She admits to financial struggles and says she needed the money to support her children. But despite the large sum she stole, she remains unfaced, acting as if it's no big deal. Doing the best you can, right? You're here by yourself. They all play in the same cloud. I'm assuming how do they expect you to go back and forth? Exactly. No brain. So I had some past four months. Yes. Since school start. Okay. Where is your school? Okay. Single. Harmony. Harmony. I get it. Single mother doing the best we can. Obviously very hard. Sorry that you have to go. So just like just trying to figure everything out, right? No, it's fine. So you you said that you're trying to work under the table or something like under the table. What happened is he come in for us and he pay me cash and I would delete. Okay. How did you get started in that? Um he came up to me. He was a customer here originally and said, "Hey, I need stuff for cheaper." So he figured out how to do it. He was a customer here and then so he basically said for What items was he specifically? Um, it was tires and it was tires. Tires and the engines the tires. He's the same person that did the engine as well. Okay. So, tires and engines. Okay. How much is he paying you to do that? For the tires are $50, please. $50 each tire. Okay. And has he been keeping up? Mostly. Yeah. Okay. How long has that been going on for? About a year. About a year. [Music] And he was a customer here. shoe at the front. Just need some extra fashion. So, it's been going for the past year. Right here, we have all these special order tires. Basically, if you work here, you know what that means more than anybody, you know what that means. Um, but these Correct. This is your employee number 489154. Correct. Slow. Correct. So, only you have access to that. These are the tires that you ordered and they're saying that they never made it to the shop. those tires that they never take a shot. Okay. As officers dig deeper, they piece together how she carried out the theft for an entire year. From there, it's up to everything else. Okay. So, would these be the tires that you would have given? What's the name of the individual that you're CJ? CJ. Um, would these be the tires that are part of that? All right. CJ, do you have any contact information for just phone number? Phone number, you know, name, first name, first name, last name, Carl something. Carl CJ should be right here. Have you seen like his ID before? But you only call him CJ, correct? Do you know where he lives? this borrowing the whole circle address. Um, it's the apartment. He the gentleman up front, Richard knows all that information. Okay. Um, should have all that information with the address and everything because I've gotten him this before. So really just doing this because one you need extra cash and because as being a single mother you need the help in order to transport your children. How old is it? 15 sorry 14 15 14 15 17 can take care of himself but obviously not well no I don't have his license in the back. Oh working on the car here. Okay, I get it. No, I understand need extra cash by yourself. Um, doing the best you can for the lifts. Um, for tires, how how have you been getting him the tires? Um, usually he picks them up or he drops off the car. Yeah, I'm sorry. Drops off the car and you just put the new tires on the car. Do you personally do that or you make like a work order and the workers do that? Yeah. As questioning continues, the woman remains indifferent, showing no remorse or concern for the consequences. Okay. Anything else you want to mention to us that maybe I'm missing or let me? Yeah. So, I missed the the engine. Yeah. So, the engine was here. You order that for his car or that you guys have put it in. Okay. But he So he just came and picked it up and threw it in his car and had somebody else put in or you guys put in No, he has it. [Music] You know where that is right now? He owns a a business with these cars. There's usually business cards when you're on the So, one other thing that I want to talk about, but I just remember as well. Um, so from last week, they have some type of video of you moving six tires into a vehicle. What was that? That was last Friday. It was one of my friends. Um Jorge or No, it was for a different brand. Okay. Um took it to Jorge took it to him. So he was the crier to move those tires to that. Okay. Who was that brand that you gave those tires to? Um that was he um did he order those tires or How much was he paying you for? Um,000 for each tire? No, it doesn't. Oh, h that's all you know them as one. She even jokes with the officers as if they're old friends, acting completely unfaced. a year. How much you think you made? You pay for I think we went over about Oh, how much? How much? I don't know. A year to say, $,000, $10,000, maybe 10 at the most. In a year. He's paying 50 per tire. Mhm. And he's just using them for his uh the rentals. So, we did 300 tire 3 38 players for $50. 330 is $16,900. I just enter the link. Literally screenshot them. You just click that link and easy as possible. One more thing and then I'll be right back and we should wrap it up. How how often would you say you have seen CJ like face to face converation? If you're at Walmart right now walking by you recognize him. Would you guys say you're kind of friends or associates or so? So you would recognize you guys on a first basis? Yeah. Do a picture of who you recognize? No, absolutely. Do you have any social media or anything like that? No. Have they talked to you about what's now? Oh, I remember about it because everybody else loves me and wants to me so What else do you have to say? Um, huh. What did he have to say about it? He said he's disappointed and he goes, "Why didn't you come to me?" And I'm like, "Let me come here." Yeah. But grand theft on this scale isn't something to take lightly. Police charge her with felony grand theft and fraud. With the amount she stole, she's now facing serious legal trouble. He said, "I'm heartbroken right now. I'm supposed to be in PTO." Can you stand up for a second, please? Am I walking with you? Yes. Just put down. Do we just walk instead of arresting it? No, ma'am. Do you want to give us those who later? In the end, she's sentenced to 9 months in jail and 20 years of probation. She's also ordered to pay back the full amount stolen. Looks like their biggest workplace complaint now will be the view from behind bars. What do you think of these sneaky employees? Let us know in the comments.
