Officers arranged to take him into custody and transport him to jail. Can I ask you a quick question real quick? Absolutely, sir. What's going on? Why do we have a warrant for arrest? Uh for six counts of child endangering. Okay. We've been going through the CSB case for about uh since the beginning of January about the end of December, right? Well, the children's services case is completely separate from the criminal investigation. Huh? I said the children's services case is completely separate from the criminal investigation. You want to grab her a pair of shoes? You don't got Yeah. You got Lysa? Yes. Okay. Actually, I'll grab the pair of shoes. Just remember that's trust me. You haven't gone in. Just let him grab the pair of shoes. He's not. All right. I guess I'll see you guys at the shop. Let me call my boss. Let her know what's going on. Okay. Thank you, sir. What's her name? Kaitton. Kimberly. Kimberly. I apologize. Where's Where's a pair of shoes for her, dear? She's going to be uh going to the jail, unfortunately. Yeah, it's still bad. Nope. That's not even what I'm saying. Cuz I walked in there. Yeah, I know. It's still bad. The roaches didn't hide. Yeah, it ain't that big of a deal. She'll be out tomorrow. Yeah, she'll be arraigned. She'll have her day in court, dear. No reason to get all worked up a little bit. She'll literally be out tomorrow. Oh god. Seeping seeping out in the air. Yes, ma'am. You're a stronger man than I got. I've already I search my uh um let me see if I can [Applause] now both parents are facing criminal charges. All right, J. I'm going to transfer over to my car over [Applause] here. Go take a seat. All [Music] right, dear. Yeah, let me turn this light on. That light doesn't work. No. All right, dear. What I'm going to do your rights. All right. Right now, you are under arrest before I can talk to you. Okay. Having these rights in mind, you're willing to talk to me about why you're under arrest tonight. I don't even know why I'm under arrest. So, it's six counts of child endangering. I was actually uh the original officer that responded out here with children services when they were removed from the home. Do you remember me now? Yeah. Okay. Um I mean, do you understand why the children were removed from the home in the first place? Yes. I mean, how did how did how did it get that bad? How did how did the mess, the animals, the I mean, I'm going to be honest with you. That's the worst house that that day. That was the worst house I ever walked into. It's a little cleaner now. That's the worst house I ever walked into that had people living in it. How did How does it get like that? When asked if she ever stopped to realize how bad things had become, the mother responds like this. And I was the only one doing anything. Okay. She didn't have any help. He works too much, so I didn't have any help. Did you Did you at any point like look around the house and go, "This is a problem. These living conditions are not okay." Yeah. We finally got the basement fixed. Yeah. Well, I'm talking I mean the kids being removed. I know that was a wakeup call. Can we both agree that was kind of a wakeup call? But before that, did you ever look around and go, "Something here has to change. My children shouldn't live in this kind of filth right now." Yeah. Why Why didn't you change it, dear? I'm trying. I mean, be honest with me here and this is just do you when the children were removed from the home, do you think that was the right choice? Yes. You don't think that the living conditions were suitable and you just I mean you would you say you were kind of at a loss of what to do with everything? Yeah. You're saying Mike wasn't helping you out? No, he works too much. Works too much. I got you. He's still working. Right. Is that Is that your mom or is that his mom in there? That's his mom. That's his mom. Does she help out at all with the kids or anything? She watches the kids every now and then, but she's up in her 60s. I gotcha. All right, dear. Well, yeah. So, I mean, that's that's why you're being arrested. This the state of that home that the children were in. It rises to the level of criminality. Officers remind her she'll have her day in court. This isn't just a family issue anymore. It's about protecting the children. I mean, the kids shouldn't have to suffer. All right. U there's going to be a uh prisoner wagon that's going to come. They're going to take you to county. They'll book you in. You'll be arraigned tomorrow. That's where they're set bail and everything like that. Um supposed to see the kids tomorrow. This is all stuff that they can work with you and everything like that. That's what CSB is there for. All right, dear. The kids are out. The parents are in custody. The system is now in motion. Number four. How a Waffle House became a lifeline for one woman escaping abuse. A woman finds herself in a terrifying situation and makes a split-second decision to hide in a Waffle House bathroom. Trying to escape her abusive boyfriend. She runs, locks herself in, and calls for help. Soon after, the man shows up at the restaurant. What up, bro? What's your problem? Come over here. Look, look, you can't you can't arrest me because I didn't do anything. You know what I'm saying? But anyways, bro, people got my money, bro. Then then sign it to my phone, then use my money, you feel me? Supposed to have been the girlfriend or whatever. You feel me? I ain't put my hands on nobody, nothing. You get what I'm saying? I hear you. Let's stand over here cuz I don't I don't like cars behind over here in the front. I don't like cars behind me. She got my money, dog. And she sent my money to her. You get what I'm saying? The girl inside. Yeah. The the girl I with sent my sent my money to her, bro. For protection, bro. I ain't no So, protect what? Do you know who that do you know who that girl is? Okay. You got me on video. Who's the girl inside you? Do you know Do you know her at all? Yeah, I know her. Who is she? She a friend. Okay. She a friend. You sent her money. No, I didn't send her money. They sent me money and she took my money and sent it to somebody else. All right. How do they send you money? Via like Cash App or something like that? Yeah. How did she How was she able to use? She went and got on my look. Cash App sign in code at 259. You get what I'm saying? She went and did that $259 signed in and then sent $20 at 3004 to this girl in here. So that's why I'm snapping like that because I need my money. Okay. You get what I'm saying? That's my friend. Your friend? Yeah. Okay. Why? What's up? What's up with the money? What money you talking about? She sent it over to this girl Jersey. That's and there. So when I I was sleeping together, you know what I'm saying? And when I seen the on my cash app, I had signed in or you said your friend that's that's what I He tells police that the woman accessed his cash app account, stole money, and sent it to someone else. Are y'all saying? Yeah, we be helping each other. Helping each other out. Yeah. be all like intimate like a I mean here and there and not really like I'd be straight on when was the last time you guys slept that's is it like a is like a casual thing put your hands behind your back when I'm going to temp you just All that I'm going to jump domestic battery is a domestic veteran. I ain't put my hands on her. Witnesses back up her story. They say he pushed through the restaurant doors, barged in, and tried to snatch her stuff. He came in here yelling on her. Yeah. Trying to find her. Like she had to She had to hide in the bathroom. It's all Oh, she hid from him. Yeah, she hid from him in the bathroom. They locked this door. Can you check for her? They're saying he snatched the wall from her hand. We locked this door and he came and he There's a camera right there. If y'all wanted to, you can. Yeah. when they tried to lock the door like they were trying to close the locket so because so she could hide in the bathroom before she got he pushed it in their face and came in anyways him hitting her across the street. How would you describe like was it a punch a slap? It was kind of like they were like they were arguing. He was right in her face and like I think he tried to take something from her and he like pushed her. Okay. Like and then hit like pushed her in the face. Yeah. He smooshed her. Yeah. Yeah. smushed it like that. You have your ID? Yes, I do. Thank you. Do you want to fill out a short written statement? Mhm. You do? Okay. I do. Where? What? Why is He's injured that he got a stretcher coming for him now? When someone asks for a ambulance, we have Yeah, they have to give it. Same thing with like a supervisor. They ask for Do you want to do you want to write statement? You want to write a statement? Yeah. Would you like the fire department to check you out? So, it initially started where they came here. That's awesome. If it all was in one incident, then you can just roll with it. Yeah. So, they started in here, they kicked them out, they went across the street. They were watching because of how I rate they were in here. And that's when they witnessed the guy over there strike her multiple times in the head and uh push her. Okay. Then she ran over here, came inside, and they locked it to not let him in. And then he ripped open the door. Goes in, grabs the bag. She's now grabs the bag to prevent him. He rips it. And that's all I can see on camera. One employee says he even hit her earlier across the street. Others confirmed that he forced his way in despite attempts to keep him out. Yeah, but they're saying they don't know if there's damage. So that time they were not allowing any guests to enter whatever. So it's still 21 there. [Music] I'll ask them if they want to press short. Yeah. [Music] And I got a quick question for you. So you guys locked the door and you pretty much did not want him inside this property, correct? Um because because you guys locked it, you did not want him in their property obviously for the safety of your customers and that and her and you guys him ripping open the door. Do you guys want to press charges for that? Absolutely. Okay. Can I get your ID and wear a swarm and safely? I'm scared to go to my car at this point. Where's your car? He He's He's in handcuffs in the airplane, so he ain't coming out. You going? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Um, did the officers give you a case number yet? No. Do you want to fill out any domestic violence paperwork? No. Do you want to press charges for robbery? For robbery. For robbery. So, cuz you were holding your bag when you're here. He came and ripped it from you and then he ripped the wallet from you from what the witnesses are telling me. So, he's using force to deprive you of your property. I know that. But that's a decision that you have to make. I can't leave it at home because he took my stuff and all I wanted was to get something to eat. That's why I always So, how did this argument start? Just over using money to get food. Like, what made him so angry? He logged into his phone and saw that I noticed that he took my money. Like he's been taking my money and then saying that I'm doing police start putting the pieces together. The woman explains how the argument started and began to spiral. So you guys got here, you guys get here and I walked here with him. Yeah. went to get something. At what point did he get so angry? Literally, like he came out from Subway and I was over here and he's like, "Why are you using the phone?" I asked her, "Can I use your phone, please?" Cuz he kept saying, "Don't log in. Don't log off of my stuff. Like, don't be looking for my stuff." And I was like, "I'm just hungry. Like, I want to eat." You had his phone at that time to get Yeah, because I don't have my I don't have my phone. I don't have my car. And then you guys go over there. He kept coming back and saying, "Get the like, come on. Come on." And he already had my wallet and he's giving my stuff. So he had your wallet. How did he get your wallet? He snatched it from right here. He just holding it. No, my ID was here. His ID was here. He said, "Give me my ID before I slap you." And I was just like, "Okay." So So he said, "Give me my before I slap you." Yeah. And I was just like, "What the like?" So I couldn't take it out. and give him his and he just like took this whole thing and they just went off to the back of the building and went over there and stormed back and like we all saw him coming back like on a mission and he was like let's go and I was like I don't want to go with you just give me my stuff back and I'll just stay here like you don't pay for anything you don't have any money like I need my $40 but when he hit you in the head was that over there. Yeah. Okay. She's visibly shaken. She tells officers this isn't new. She's lived through similar abuse before from someone else. Like in those staircase and he was like, "Let's go. Let's go." And I was like, "I don't want to go with you." Like, I just want to eat some food. Okay. All right. So, like I said, you had your belongings in your possession. You didn't. To me, it sounds like you didn't want him to have your wallet or your bag. So, it is up to you if you want to press charges for robbery. I'm just scared cuz he knows where you live. Like, he knows everything. It's domestic. So, what's going to happen is he's going to have a no contact order, which means he can't call. He can't meet with you. He can't go to where you work, where your family lives. If he does, he automatically goes to jail. So you'll have that layer of protection. So if you're in fear of what he might do there, there is court proceedings that prevent him from coming back to see you. So it's up to you if you want to press charge for robbery. He is going for the the domestic violence battery cuz he has to go. Yeah, because my ear is like it's so freaking ringing. The statement thing is like making me nervous because like my daughter's death dad is just like this like statements the the everything just I know for this all you have to say is like I didn't give him permission to take my stuff from my person I want to press charges. That's all you have to say. They ask if she wants to press charges. She hesitates, scared, tired, and unsure if it's the right move to make. What was that? I'm sorry. No, I'm sorry. I have my stuff. Okay. I'm going to give you a case number. If you change your mind, you're going to let us know. Okay. Do I have time? Like, I don't feel so. So, at this point, he's going to go for the batter domestic violence. So, what I would recommend, what was that? I wanted to go over that. Yeah. So, if you decide to change your mind, press charge for robbery, meet with the state attorney's office and let them know about that. I'll document in my report so they're aware of it as well. Okay. All right. They're going to take care of you. I'm going to get you a case number. The suspect was later arrested and formally charged with domestic violence battery. Number three, child caught in the middle as parents are arrested. Police respond to a fight in a parking lot where a man is reportedly choking a woman against a car. Officers step in to unearth the truth. You sir, is this really what we're going to be doing tonight? Seriously? No. Being honest with you. No, I'm No, because now we have a witness saying something happened back here. So So what's happened? You want to go? Do you want to go that route? No, no, no. Because we'll go that route. No, no. To be honest with you, I trying to get everything. So two problems exist right now. One, they told us that you were choking her against the car. Okay, so that's not bad. Let's check the camera. So, that's problem. Let's check I'm going to I'm going to s behind. Let's check the camera. Okay, that's problem one. Problem two is you're plastered and you're sitting in the driver's seat of the car with no sitting. Baby, they say that I strangle you. Let's see the cameras. What are they at? That's what we do. We go and see the cameras. We see the cameras. That's what we're going to do. Thank you. You guys are doing all of this in front of your kids. No, being No, exactly. Being on You doing this? Are you kidding me? You doing all of this, baby? Because he's Hispanic. Are you kidding me? Baby, being on with you. I just want to go home. Be on. I've been praying for the last, baby. You don't give a No. Get in the car. You see me? You see me? I see you. I see you. Let's get in the car. No. Are you kidding me? Yes. No. I'm not even kidding. He was choking me. Are you kidding me? That's what they told us. Somebody told you. No, you are the one that borderline disorder. I don't want to take you to jail. So, just relax. Just relax. Mommy and right there. I know Angelo is right there. These [ __ ] You're supposed to protect. You supposed to back. Stand back for me. Why you not protecting me? [ __ ] why are you not so mean? What makes this even more heartbreaking is that their young son is there witnessing everything. He's scared, confused, and pleading not to be taken from his parents. Why you not dancing? Tired of them. Hey, stop. Stop. Stop. I know. So, uh, inside they're reporting that he was strangling her. She's Applebee's is reviewing camera footage. She's encroaching on me. I had to push her away. I'm tired of you. So, he's reviewing camera footage to see if that's legitimate. But she was in the driver's seat with the car on. So, thank you. Come here. Back up. No. Stop. Hands behind your back. Hands behind your back now. Hands behind your back. Stop resisting. Stop. Bat. I got All right. Stop it. Left arm. I got left arm. Got left arm. Hey, stop. Stop. Why is that? No. Look. Make this easier. No. No. Look my hand. Look at my hands. Stop. Look at my hands. Look at my hands. Look at my hand. I don't think I have a Oh my god. If I could What hurts? It hurts. My hands hurt. What part of your hand? Like all of it. My Okay. The seat in the car. From here, the chaos only escalates. Take a deep breath. You want What do you want? You want me to readjust them? Yes. You want me to readjust them? Do we even know her name yet? Nope. What's your name? Alexia. Alexia. Alexia, stop it. It hurts. Listen, listen. It hurts. It hurts. It hurts right now. Like it hurts. Like it hurts. It hurts. My hurting. My car. We go. Where is that? [Applause] And he had no business coming back on the property. That was just trespasses. Uh, so you were back there. I I was going to take the trash out. Yeah. So when I was taking the trash out, I hear somebody screaming. Uh-huh. So when I heard somebody screaming, that's what I came back in and told him. I said, "Man, the dude in the back parking lot come me and him have to close that night." He's still You see what I'm saying? Yeah. What What exactly did you see? I seen him grabbing her against the car that great car. Yeah. And And I came back in cuz I didn't want them to see me. Meanwhile, the man is arguing nonstop, refusing to follow commands and demanding explanations he won't wait to hear. Please, sir. Please. Please help me, bro. Please. Please don't do that to her. To her, please. Okay. You're okay, buddy? Yeah. Yeah. Can you go? Let's go with together. Please. Please. Please. Please. Please. Please. I'm going with you. I'm going with you. No. He's my son, bro. Um, I can just take a little breaths and, uh, we'll get through this. Sure. Yes, ma'am. Like I said, there's um there's some other officers. I don't want to like mislead you. No, I don't want you to do nothing. Just tell me the real. What's up? Tell me the real, baby. What's going on? I said, there's a couple other officers. They're going to be able to explain better than I am, okay? Cuz you were obviously involved in an accident tonight that you're aware of. So, they'll get here in a little bit. Okay. I I know there's a lot going on. I know there's a lot going through your mind, but just a lot going through my mind and I hope it was an animal. Sure. That's all I care. But you know what? I didn't even lie. I know an animal coming across that bridge. Stop it. Just wake up and talk to somebody. Yep. They're on their way. So, it's like it I know it's a lot. Just kind of take some deep breaths. And her emotions shift rapidly between panic, denial, and confusion. Eventually, officers sit her down and explain the facts. Easier to sit than I know. I know. Oh god, there's plain people. No, these are the officers. I said that we're on their way to talk to an animal. It's not an animal. I don't even They got the blood done. We're trying to wait for not to go to pee. Take a deep breath. Baby, I can't just I thought it was just an animal, but now I know it's not cuz y'all will you uh what's your first name? We just Please can you get Hey, listen. Just hear me out real quick. Okay. We will go ahead. We will go ahead once we get through this. Okay. We'll make those phone calls. Please get my mom. I can't promise anything but get her here. Okay. You ready? Are you listening? I'm sorry. When the woman fully realizes what's happened, she breaks down. Understand your rights though. Correct. I don't even No, I don't understand nothing right now. Just come on. Everybody need to talk to me. Okay. Shabria. Hey. Hey girl. Would you look at me for a second? Will you just take a deep breath for me? Okay. You understand what s You understand what S read to you, right? No. You don't understand. You don't understand your rights. Yeah. I know my rights. Okay. You understand what he said then? You understand your rights. on the camera like you have the right to remain you re you have the right to remain silent somebody died somebody did die and we just need to talk to you okay we have to figure that out on your end okay where's my mom please can my mom be here with me you're an adult okay you're the same age as me okay so can you talk to us about last night you know what day it is it's Sunday right now what was Saturday So, so I went across to kick it with a couple of people cuz I never get to kick it with them cuz I work so much. I'm fixing up my home. Across the bridge. Yes. And I don't drive across the bridge, but I did tonight. And and I was um I went over there to kick in with a couple of people, which was across the bridge. And then uh I was coming back across like I said, and I came back across the bridge, had got off the bridge, came all around a river drive, and then that's when it happened. Um, I thought it was an animal. Like I said, I thought it was an animal. So, I I hit the animal. Um, but like I said, it was a hard hit. You know what I'm saying? I'm like, what the I thought it was a deer, actually. She then explains her side of the story and what she recalls about the accident. And I'm an animal person, so I was like, you know what? And like I said, when I seen my fuz because I closed my eyes, my seat belt held me. Okay. So, I knew it was something serious. I'm like and and I feel for I love animals. Yeah. I'll take a straight cat if you give it to me. You know what I'm saying? But like I said, my when I seen it, my roof caved up. I felt me. I said, "Oh." Like I said, thought it was an animal. Mhm. Point blade period. So, I pulled over. That's when I called you guys. Okay. I called my mom. I was like, "Mom, I think I hit a deer. I don't even know where the deer came from." She said, "Okay, baby. Pull over." I called you guys. I called my son's dad. Mhm. Um, by the time you guys all start pulling up, that's when too many people start pulling up and I start I can't remember nothing. That's why I start panicking. I thought it was a raccoon. It stunned me. I pulled over and as I'm pulling over, I see my hood was lifted up and I was like, "Oh my god. Oh my god." Now I said I And then that's when I thought it was a deer. So I went ahead and pulled over. Um Do you remember when you got off that there was no uh no lights controlling the part of the bridge that you got off on, but there was some next to you? Do you remember it being really narrow? Narrow? Yes. because I'm like, "What the I'm like, okay, well, whatever. This is new blah blah blah blah blah." And then I I was like, "Why the lit up blah blah blah." The officers explained that she wasn't driving on a road. She was on the pedestrian walkway of the I74 bridge. She had driven directly into a group of three men who were walking. Said, "I did my usual. I did my usual." That was the thing. I did my usual. So, you noticed that the part you were on wasn't lit up. It's It was not lit up. Okay. But the other part of the bridge was lit up over there. Yeah. To your So, I'm on my left side. On the right. Yes. All that All that is pretty. Yeah. It's all lit up pretty. Mhm. And then your part was very narrow. The concrete on both. Concrete. You got to be careful over there. Yeah. And that's what made me more aware. Like I said, cuz I don't even come across I don't even go across the bridge period whether it's going or coming. you familiar with the new bridge that there's a there's there's three parts to the new bridge. There's the Iowa bound, there's Illinois bound, and then on the side of that that's not lit up, there's a pedestrian walk on a sidewalk. No, I didn't. No. I'm locking I'm locked. Do you know you were driving on the sidewalk? Oh, no. Cuz I would have noticed a You were on the pedestrian park. I'm sorry. Wait a minute. But she said she was I'm not even going to say I I I knew where I was at cuz sweetie I didn't know there was a sidewalk part to that. So hold on. I'mma correct myself. You know what I'm saying? I knew that. Like I said there was an exit cuz it always says River Drive and then it says something else. So just break it to me softly. It was no animal. There was not an animal. I don't even want to know. Any question you ask, I will answer for you. Okay. Where's my mom? I need my mom. Why was he on the bridge? What was this man doing or woman doing? Oh my god. Oh my god. Why was it on there? Looks like the detective said before, you were driving on the new pedestrian walkway on the I74 bridge. She cries, apologizes, and struggles to process the news. She continues to ask about her mother, seemingly unable to face the reality alone. Baby, so what's a walkway? Because I was not on the walkway. And I said, I knew it was a walkway, but why was he on there at 12:00 at night? Is there a difference in the walkway? Talk to me, please. There is a difference. There's a big concrete barrier separating the roadway from a concrete difference. There's a big old like a concrete barrier. I'm just answering your questions, you know, cuz I don't want I don't want to be it would be wrong for me not to answer your questions. Right. So, I went over a concrete thing and ran over somebody. That's what they're trying to say. Baby, you telling me there's a walkway on the bridge? Yep. It's cuz you have the driving portion of the bridge here and then right next to that there's a smaller path that's just for people to walk across. It's new since they built a new bridge. What you're saying? Maybe they're saying it happened on the bridge. Yep. Way. Okay. No way. I would erect. Sure. Shows that mean the man is dead. That's my understanding. Yes. And I did it. Looks like it. I'm the one that killed a man that was walking. He was walking on the bridge on the walk path. Yeah. I'm going to prison for something that I didn't do. Where are they at? Why are they making me sit like this? They need to get them cameras, baby, because this did not happen on the bridge. Okay. Where's his friends at? They were talking some other officers. Okay. So, they they know what kind of vehicle actually struck him, right? Correct. But this is my thing. Yeah. They struck him on the bridge. How many hours did this happen before I struck him? No, not hours. But how many? I watched too much Force 48. I'm not going to lie. Yeah. No, I'm I'm making a joke out of it now, but I'm not. I get you. You know what I'm saying? I understand because like I said, no, sweetie, cuz I would had pulled over on the bridge. Sure. Sure. One moment of impaired driving, one wrong turn on a pedestrian path, and three young lives are destroyed. Just Come on. Come on. Break it to me. I'm blown away. Are you aware that a kid a kid died? Um, so say your first name again. Shabria. Shabria. So you after after we're done here, you're you're going to be arrested today, okay? and you're going to be charged with reckless homicide. You're driving a vehicle and you struck three people. Three. One's one's going to die and the other one's critically injured. That that part of the bridge that you were driving on, that's a sidewalk. That's not the bridge. Cars can't drive on there. So, you're driving on we call it's a pedestrian walkway. So, where you drove? Y'all got the cameras on that. We do. So where's this where where is this part at? So you're telling me I was driving on another side of the road where I weren't supposed to be. Yeah. So the bridge there's the Iowa bound Illinois bound. Those are separated. There's a gap. They're separated by concrete and they're also separated by water. And then to the west of that, to the west of the Illinois bound that's also separated by barriers and also separated by a gap which you go down to the water. There's a pedestrian walkway that they built on the new I74 bridge and you were driving on the walkway. I was on there and y'all seen it. I have not I have not seen pedestrian. No, they seen it. Yeah, that's where the kids are at. No, they seen it. They're going to see it. It'll be on camera. Okay, that's what I'm asking you. It's on camera. It will be on camera. So, you're being charged with aggravated DUI resulting in death and reckless homicide. Okay. Yeah. They said I I hit him and so you know what I'm saying is somebody else's baby that I k and they got to they got to tell his mom and dad that I killed him because he was on the walkway on the bridge. Still in shock, the woman is allowed a moment to call her family before being taken into custody. She's ultimately charged with multiple counts of aggravated DUI, reckless homicide, and more. Mom, right now. Right now. Go get my baby. And hopefully I'll see y'all in court Monday. Go get my baby. My god. It's a dream. Please let it be a dream. I killed somebody's baby. I killed somebody's baby. No. And it's not going to be all right without me. I killed somebody's baby. I killed somebody's baby. Do you? I know. I somebody's baby. What you're going through, but I somebody's baby. You said the walkway was right there and I wasn't supposed to be driving there on the bridge and it was a baby and I killed somebody. How old was he? I know one of them. There's three of them. One's 18, one's 22. I think and they was walking on the bridge on the sidewalk. Will you please tell his s's going to handle it and s please tell his father I'll talk to him. Okay. Oh man. Okay. Please whoever when y'all call his mom and dad tonight please. I didn't I swear to God. The charges are later increased after the second victim dies. Eventually, she accepts a plea deal and is sentenced to 20 years in prison, followed by supervised release. Number one, boy's desperate cry sparks heroic lake rescue. The patrol car encounters a young boy drenched and clearly distressed. Moments later, the officers find themselves in a race against time. What's going on? She having a fever. She's sunk. She's in the water. Oh, come on. Hop in. I'll bring you over there. Help her. Hurry. Okay, hop in. Let's see how it all unfolds. Come on. Is she in there? Is somebody in there? [Music] Look out, buddy. Is the car unlocked? [Music] Look in the driver door in the panel. There's a little little blue or black punch in the driver door. Bro, it's in the driver door. [Music] Look in the driver door in the panel. I got a window punch. The driver door. The driver. The driver door. Move. Move. Sorry. It's all right. She caught a seizure. I tried to help her. God dang it. [Music] Here, I got a punch here. [Music] [Music] Efforts to reach the mother trapped inside begin immediately. While locating and using a window punch tool, the officers and nearby civilians work to break into the car. [Music] Can't find the first door. [Music] Tell you there, step it up. Eventually, they succeed in removing the woman who is cold and unresponsive. After what seems like an eternity, she begins to breathe on her own. We got her breathing again. Okay, she's breathing. She is breathing. Not even working with her. She's not back conscious yet, but she's breathing again. Okay. I'm not going to leave you mama's breathing again. We got to breathe it again. Okay. Sorry. I didn't I didn't know what to look for. Both of her kids were in the car with her. Thanks for your help, man. Where y'all going to be taking her to? Look at me. I need to get her out of here. That's not a They're taking her to St. Eagles. I was trying to get the officer right there attention. I didn't see him drowning, but he uh swam to there. I told him I told him, "Here, get this so he could go get the man that was over there." So, I jumped in. I I tried to get her in time like open the door. Yeah, the door I tried to get I tried to bust it through, but it started getting deep and I just I just couldn't stand up. Y'all did right. Y'all got somebody's attention. Yeah, we watched it happen. Oh, did y'all? Yeah, we made it. Where was Okay. The woman's children, who had also been in the car, are now safe. Okay. Where was she coming from? I'm sorry. The light's blinding me. I'm blind. Okay. He's fixing to get out, babe. They're working on her. What you got? I'll tell the fire department. Yeah. They'll move it over there like I'll tell them to bring it to their fire station in West Orange. Okay. Does she want to be okay? Who's family? The relief is shortlived, though. When paramedics arrive, they observe signs of posturing, a physical reaction that can indicate brain damage from lack of oxygen. With my mom with my mom, it made me mad, bro. I want to ride with her. You don't need to ride with her. I'm about I'm going to Hold on one second. Okay. So, she has an enoxic brain injury. She's posturing already. Almost likely she'll be okay. Maybe it's it's not good right now. So, is that from lack of posture to the brain? But it's I mean, she's already clinched down. She's posturing. So, that's why she don't need to be an Where's the fire department? So, they're asking cuz the supervisor starts back on fire. Yeah, cuz he's riding. Yeah, we'll ride. Not semi, but we'll drive back. Okay, here's the deal. When somebody is very very serious like that and they're running hot, they don't like having people in there. Okay. What you need to Is there You said there's family members coming. Yeah. I'm Are you bringing her to St. Elizabeth? Okay. Best thing y'all do is just go to St. Elizabeth's meet them. They're doing everything. She is breathing. Okay. She's not coherent, but she's she's moving around. Okay. So, she is breathing. We got her back breathing. That's the important. Officers coordinate next steps and advise the family to head to the hospital separately, explaining that a clear, focused medical response requires minimal emotional disruption. Just say a prayer for your mama cuz she needs it right now. Okay. and y'all just go over there and be there whatever they need at the hospital. Yeah, she she was breathing on her own. We when we were doing CPR, we got her breathing on her own again before the ambulance got in. Okay. So, they didn't have to invade her there. They got a one of the pump deals to help fill her lungs, but she's breathing on her own right now. Okay. Oh, yeah. The best thing like said you need to be seeing some big prayers from her. Okay. Just pray hard and give her all the good thoughts right now. And y'all did I'm so glad y'all got out of that car. Y'all did good. Luckily I was I I saw Was that your little brother or was Yeah. Luckily I saw him run out in the officer attention while I tried to get her. Okay. Y'all did good. Luckily we got her out when we did. Okay. And the big reason why we don't like cuz I used to work on the ambulance. I worked on ambulance for 8 years. Okay. The reason a lot of times we don't like family hiding, especially in this type of situation, because you see what we're doing and we're trying to help her and we need to focus all of our energy and our thoughts. Like we need to focus on her and if you're there and you're starting to get upset. Do you understand what I'm saying? It takes our focus off of it. So that's that's why. Okay. So that they can do everything in their power. Jerry got their information. Uh just need the witness's information. He's got their information. I don't think unless she dies maybe. I don't think we need a witness statement. We don't normally take witness statements on crashes. I mean, this is just a basic crash. It just so happened she was in the car in the water. After weeks of intensive care, she survived and credits her life to the heroes who pulled her from the water. Tragedy doesn't always end in justice. But when good cops show up, it can end with compassion. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. [Music]
