They act like it's all one big misunderstanding. Funny how the cameras never agree. Here are five cases when shoplifterss act innocent, but cameras don't lie. Number five, she thought she could get away with stealing $1,000 from TJ Maxx. Officers respond to a call from Aldi about a shoplifting incident involving a man and a woman. When they arrive, they first approach the man who says he [music] was just standing outside on the phone and doesn't know what happened. Let's see how that works out for them. Hello. >> You was just at Aldi's. >> I was >> Okay. >> I wasn't in Aldi's. I was just standing outside. >> Okay. There's a couple females with you that was at Aldi's. There was a female with me that went I don't think she went into Aldi's but uh I was I'm on the phone. I I wasn't paying attention, man. >> Okay. Um do you have an ID on you? >> I don't, but I'll give you my name and my social security number. >> Okay. Um cuz they're going to want you barred from there. Where'd the female go? >> Anything at all? I don't >> Well, you know what I mean? They're private business. >> Standing outside. You mean on the phone, bro? >> Well, you know, you was with her. She said follow me and then she disappeared. I don't I came around the corner. Like I said, I'm on the phone and I wasn't paying attention. >> Yeah. >> So, >> what's your name, man? >> Uh Tommy. >> What's the girl's name? Uh, I think her name is uh either Leah or Kim. >> She goes by a couple different names. >> A big difference. >> I know, but she goes by a couple different names. >> What do you call her? >> I call her Kim. >> You call her Kim? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> She's got to be around here somewhere. >> I mean, sure. She probably went in one of the stores, man. But >> yeah. Yeah, she's around here somewhere. >> I didn't see which one she went. Like I said, I'm on the front. >> Yeah, you can see right here. My girlfriend's on the front right here. >> Let me bring your camera back up. There we go. >> Come on down here. >> It's Mahan. >> How's it going? >> Good. >> Huh? >> Yeah. >> Turns out officers saw her leave with items, though she swears she went right back to return them. >> Uh, stuff from Aldi's. >> I already I ran out trying to catch the bus. I already handed it back to them. >> Already what? >> Took it back in there to them. You handed it back to them. >> Okay. Cuz they didn't tell me you gave it back to them. >> I did. I went straight back in there and gave it back to them. >> Okay. >> Yeah. My phone. >> I'm not saying you're not on the phone, but >> Yeah. >> Okay. You have any groceries in your bag there? >> No. >> What did you have? >> Um, it was like some honey buns, uh, some meat things. Um, Oreos. Um, spoon. >> Yeah. >> Um, maybe that's it. >> Okay. Um, let me make sure that they got their stuff back or whatever. >> Yeah. I mean, >> and they they I believe they just want both of you. Okay. >> Okay. Yeah. The bus ran. I didn't know they wasn't going to let us on there because he had what he had. You know what I mean? You know, >> I have an Irish Yeah. >> spear on me. A knife >> and they wouldn't and a hatchet. >> A spear. >> Yeah. >> Oh, okay. >> Back in. You mean put up like I would like >> I took a straight back in there around. >> Will you wait here with her with him for a second? I'm going to go run into Aldi for just a split second. Make sure. >> Huh? >> They're both, right? He's got a worn out of pickup and I don't think she has anything. Hers Jackson that's out of pickup to my knowledge. All right. >> All right, man. Drop your stuff. You have a warrant for your arrest. >> She got one out of out of pickup, too. >> Okay. Jackson. >> There you have one. >> I didn't know [clears throat] you even had one. When that come out right there? >> No, I mean like Wonder Wr came out. I usually I'm usually up on that list. >> Yeah. Always on that list. >> Maybe come out today or something. >> Maybe anything illegal on you. any kind of weapons or drug >> crazy like that. >> That excuse doesn't hold for long when they find out she's got outstanding warrants. >> So, you wait here for a second. I'm going to go talk to him. >> Have you been in trouble recently? At least here locally. >> Just publication violation for not recording. >> Okay. Think you had for a minute? Come out in February. >> Since February, >> I'm slacking. >> Yeah. What's it for? Uh, it's a probation. You're on probation >> then. Then you're right. Probation violation warrant. >> I'll be right back. Old house. >> Let's have a seat for me. Anything illegal in the bags up there? >> What's your plan from uh from this point on? >> I'm heading that way and I'm going to uh First Capital uh recovery. I'm going to rehab today. >> You going to rehab today? >> 6 o'clock. >> Well, that's good. Yeah. >> Well, let's see here. You got about an hour and 5 minutes. >> Yeah. Hopefully I can make it. I supposed to be on the bus, but he got that dude's been at me all day, man. >> What now? >> No, because of the knife in my bag. He been He's been at me all day. It's the third time he told me I couldn't get on the bus, man. >> Yeah. I mean, I don't really don't blame him. Do they have a big sign says no weapons? >> Yeah, but I'm not I don't have I have anywhere to put it. You know what I mean? Like, I got >> Well, I get ru rules are rules. pulls me. They don't have to give you a ride, I guess. Are you guys still missing anything or did she give the stuff back or what? >> Yeah. >> Guess what? You guess she give it back or >> Yes, she gave it back. >> Okay. All right. She's arrested anyways. So, she had a warrant. Um, you guys want both of them trespass or one of them or >> both of them? >> Both of them trespass. Okay. Yeah, we'll do. So, it was uh Kimberly um aka also Meadows and then the mayo was Tommy. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> So, we we've got them both. They'll go. Let me get um your information for the report. Okay. >> All right. She gave everything back. Barred from the old Aldi's. Um what she want to do with his belongings? She want >> We're going to take it with us. >> She won't want to leave with him. >> So now it's theft plus a warrant. Double trouble. Both ending in cuffs. >> I would rather go with us anyway. >> You know what I mean? I got I'm not responsible for anything >> pretty. It could it could come back on us as a liability issue and Yeah. So, he's barred. >> Yeah, he's barred. Yep. They don't want you back at the Aldi. >> All right, man. I've never been in there anyway. >> Well, you ain't got nothing to worry about then. >> Okay. Yep. Thank you. >> Yeah, he's good to go. >> I haven't gone through anything yet. There's some other like food items top of the bag there like ice cream and something else, but I got >> anybody she got anybody we can leave this stuff with? >> Ask her. >> Anybody can ask her. You got anybody that'll take some of the stuff at all or No. Outstanding. >> You're originally from here? >> No. She's been here for a little while, though. >> All right. Well, we're going to move up to uh old car 18. The jail doesn't keep uh bags and stuff anymore. >> What's up? >> I don't know. Watch. You got yourself turned >> little hot. >> No, she's twisted herself here right now. Turn your wrist together like you're praying. There you go. That should be better. >> Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. >> Yeah. If you keep moving and when you sit back, they'll just go tighter on you. >> We'll be able to guarantee that when you get your stuff, you're going to have ice cream. >> Can we throw that away like right now? >> Yeah. Ice cream. Yeah, I didn't >> coffee. >> But no, what kind of ice cream do you want? >> Coffee. >> Oh, coffee ice cream. >> Yeah. >> I don't like that kind. >> Really? >> I was hoping you'd have like cookies and cream or something like that. Get like a snack. >> I'm I'm going to leave you cup. >> Okay. You didn't like give me a fake name this time. Although I knew you had cuz I'm pretty sure you done that to me once before. >> Mhm. >> Didn't you? That's how I remembered. Yeah. >> Officers search her belongings and discover bags filled with new merchandise. Many items still with tags attached. >> I don't remember what you gave me the last time. Magnets things. >> Little magnets. >> Do we need Tommy's now? >> Tommy said he didn't even know you. Well, I mean, he told me your name told me your name was Cam and I was thinking like, Cam, Cam, Cam, I see you walk out. Can't believe. >> Yeah. But no, he told me he didn't know you. I don't even know her like that. >> So he So he does know you like that. Is that what you're saying? >> Yeah. >> Uh or anything like that in here? Needles? Nothing like that? The jail won't take this stuff. So we have to put all of it in our property room. So that means when you get out, you have to come to us and get your stuff. They don't keep their They don't keep bags anymore. They want to inconvenience us. It is literally coffee, it says. >> Yep, that that is a thing. >> I never heard of it. What do you got there? >> There's cellular device. Um, let's see here. What is this? 4 in one stylus pen. >> Just put all put put all I'm just put everything in this bag and then I'll >> You're going to go like pockets or something. You go through that. >> Well, I could brand new one. >> Let's make sure you know nothing's going to blow up in the uh Golly. Probably get rid of the chips, too. All the Doritos. >> Some clothing. I don't if you want to dive into that or not. >> No. >> Some Gabes clothing. >> Gabes. >> You know, we got the the tags on it. Got some shoes. >> Same. >> Tommy Hilfiger. Let's see here. Probably. Yeah, probably either that or like one of these stores here. Popping tags and some Mountain Dew. Probably get rid of that, too. >> When asked how she got them, her explanation raises more questions than answers. >> Oh, yeah. It's all all good. Nice. Nice new stuff. >> You want to do a good deed and tell me where a lot of this stuff comes from? I'm sure you didn't buy it all and I can take it back to them. >> Uh-huh. >> I bought it half price off somebody. Oh, you did buy it >> off off of a person. >> Off another person. >> Yeah. >> Okay. It's just all got tags and stuff on it. You know what I mean? >> Cuz I don't have anything on Brown. People keep stealing everything. >> Yeah. Lots of sunglasses, too. >> Sunglasses. >> How much it cost for all this stuff? >> Cost me 125. Huh? I would have figured it'd be a little bit more than that. >> Half price. >> How much the bag cost or I guess bags? >> They're half price. >> That wasn't the question. >> I don't know. Half I don't know what it is. What? So it' be $250. >> Huh? >> It says $7.99. Doesn't It's not on sale. >> No, she bought it on sale from somebody else. >> Oh, what's this thing? Scratchy. >> It's a scratchy. Somebody else had it and she bought them. Somebody else stole them and she bought them from them. >> Foot tray. TJ Maxx. >> TJ PJ Mask. >> All right. That's probably actually where everything came from except the gate stuff. >> You want to dive down it or what? Come on. He didn't buy stuff. No. >> PJ Mask again. Damn. You did not their way. When did you buy this? >> That's what I would I come up here and bought it. >> Who'd you meet? >> I can't say that. >> Oh, okay. >> Officers decide to bring the items back to TJ Maxx and speak with the store manager. >> It is right there. I just got to go talk to PJ Mask and see if they've seen any thievery the foot real quick. You didn't ask him. Yeah. I mean, somebody stole it, obviously. >> Somebody did for sure. This whole bag is new. >> Hello. How are you? A super weird question. >> Do you know if you had any kind of thievery going on with a female? It's probably about tall red long sleeve shirt like a hoodie and then black shorts. She's got a whole bunch of TJ Maxx stuff. >> Francancy. Hey Francie, could you come up front real quick? Just going to call manager. >> I mean probably too, but I don't know if you guys >> She'll defin she'll definitely know. >> She watches them like a hawk. >> Yeah. >> So yeah, she'll probably >> claim everything she has. You guys have any like half off sales? >> Not half off. We got clearance items with red tags. You can get those. >> No, she she had like a bunch of I know some $12.99 stuff and >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> I thought you were asking for you. >> Said she bought everything half off. I was like, "Okay." Did the bag come from there, too? >> Did you buy the bag, too? It looks pretty new, also. >> Did it all come in like a kit? >> Huh? bought it all in hole. >> Like the bag and all. >> Yeah, that's what I'm saying. The bag looks new to me, too. >> Hello. >> Hi. Um, weird question, but we have a female has a warrant, got her arrested. Anyway, she had a whole bunch of Gabe stuff and TJ Maxx stuff. >> Oh, she did? >> Yeah. >> Staff confirmed that the store doesn't offer half off sales and recognized several of the items as theirs. >> She's probably about like red hoodie and black shorts. I think I prepared it with you. >> Yeah. I don't know when she was in the store, but she claims that she got everything and everything was half off and like that's that's flag on the field. That is Yeah, that that is incorrect. So, >> okay. >> But if you want, we can gather the items cuz we haven't found a receipt for the stuff to return them to you or >> So, I need to get like um a receipt showing how much. >> That would be great. >> Yeah. >> Um yeah, it sounds like the other officer has everything separated, so I'll go grab that, bring it in. Um are you guys in the business of pursuing charges or just want the So that I would have to >> I'm not giving you that bag of TJ Maxx stuff. That entire bag of stuff is stolen. I know it. You know it. Whether you bought it for 125 bucks or not, the entire thing is stole. The entire back and there's no >> That's the whole idea of paying out price for something. >> What? Yeah. Well, you know what that's also called? Receiving stolen property. I'm not giving you that, right? I'm not giving you that stuff. So, it's all going to go back to them. >> I'm not going to charge you for that, but it's going back to them. It's obviously stolen. That's a huge problem up here is people stealing. So, >> yeah, if if they can bring in the merchandise, I can do like a fake receipt. >> Okay. >> Sorry, old bud. >> No, no, you're good. We're just going We're me and uh came here. We're going to get this entire bag back. That the bag and everything. The bag and everything's brand new. I mean, she >> I mean, there's, you know, there used to be a tag. >> Well, oh, >> yeah. She didn't she didn't steal it, but she knows that the purpose of buying a half price is the fact that it is stolen. >> Yeah. Also, they said they don't have they're already discount stores, so they don't do half price. Um, the only thing is that clearance. >> No, no, it's half price because it was taken. >> I thought it was a 5 discount. >> Well, the same thing, but that's why it's half price. >> I mean, if it's half price, you would pay something. You >> paid 125. While no additional charges for receiving stolen property are filed, officers confiscate the entire bag to return it to the store. >> We'll return it. Uh they don't really know if they they have to make some calls. >> I don't really care. Just give them the bag back and put it back. >> No, I gave my contact info, but I doubt it'll go anywhere. So, anything else? >> No, I don't think so. We're going to >> There's like a few minor things. >> No, they I ain't worried about that. There's that that there's a bunch of stuff. Oh, yeah. >> All right. Don't you dare throw my car. >> I throw up my car. >> The woman is ultimately charged with theft and outstanding warrants. Number four. Woman steals right in front of a cop and instantly regrets it. A deputy spots a woman shoplifting in plain sight at Walgreens, placing makeup into her waistband and tossing packaging. When called out, she tries to walk away. >> No, I didn't. I was >> What did you throw over there? >> Can you check for me? the things down. >> Do you guys have camera footage at all? >> Yeah. [snorts] >> Yeah. All right. Where you going? Okay. Hey. Hey. Come over here. All right. Stop. Come over here. Come over here. No. No. No. Come over here. Please. Please let me go. I'm not going to Please. Please. Please. Please. Please. Stop. I'm I'm hold on. Please. I'm telling on TV right now. Please please please give me I'll I'll give you 1129 to Echo 226. >> Can you come up in front of Walgreens 5000? I got >> I will I will give you everything. We're not doing this. >> Put your hands behind your back. I will give you everything that I have. >> Okay. I promise. >> I'm telling you. I will I will give you everything that I have. >> I just saw shoplifting in front of me. Tell them. >> I know. Wait. Wait. >> Okay. Drop that. >> Wait. Stay back. Step back, >> please. I'm coming. I'm gonna give you >> Okay. >> Put your hands behind your back. I'm not kidding right now. Put your hands behind your back. >> Put your hands behind your back. Hands behind your back. >> You're resisting. You want to catch another charge? >> Right now, you're being detained. I'm telling you right now, if you keep if you keep resisting, you're getting another charge. >> Sir, you're going to go back there and stop. Walk away from us. >> I didn't mean to. Sorry. >> I literally just saw you right in front of me, girl. >> I got scared. >> I know you did. >> Sorry. I'm not trying to trouble. >> No. >> No. Come on. >> Here. Sorry. Here. >> Put your hands like you're praying. >> Okay. >> Like you're praying. >> Jesus. >> I'm I'm so sorry. >> You're lucky I didn't tase you. >> No. I I just got really scared. I'm sorry. >> You're good. >> I didn't mean to do that. I >> And you start walking away from me. I tell you to stop walking. >> I'm so sorry. I got really scared and then I went to put everything down. >> She repeatedly apologizes, says she was scared, and admits she has stolen items in her pockets. >> Do you have any weapons on you? >> No. Oh, I have a knife in my in my pocket. >> Do you have any on you? >> No. No, >> no, I have nothing like that. >> What did you take from Hold on. >> It's I'm going to read you your right. >> Is it this makeup? Yeah, I have makeup in in my in my pocket. I'm I'm so sorry. I really need really like to do anything. But >> you don't have any or anything that's going to poke me, right? >> Can you go over there? Appreciate it. Yeah, grab your bike. >> How are you? >> Sorry. >> No, you're good. >> I'm so sorry. >> I'm going to read you your rights really fast, right? >> Oh my gosh. Please. >> Doesn't mean you're arrested right now. You're just detained because you're not free to leave. Okay. >> Okay. >> I mean, but you also when a deputy is telling you stop walking. You don't walk away. Okay. >> I'm so sorry. I'm so >> With that being said, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say maybe uses evidence against you, you have the right to talk to an attorney and have him or her with you. Now, at any time during question, if you can't afford an attorney, one will be appointed to represent you. If at any time you wish to stop talking or have any attorney present, all question will be stopped at your request. You understand these rights? With these rights in mind? >> All right. I'm clearly walking out. I see you grab something and you toss it. And I say, what are you doing? Are you really shoplifting in front of me? I know. >> And then you say, I need to put something down. And then you continue to disobey lawful orders when I tell you to stop. That luckily if my partner wasn't right here, we probably would have been on the ground or I would have tased you. What did you shop at? >> I have I have makeup in my pocket. >> Did you pee yourself? >> Urinated on yourself? >> You have no Are you Are you on probation? >> No. >> Have you ever been arrested before? >> Like when I was like like 17 or 18? >> Okay. So, these are the only things. >> Is that makeup item as well? The same BB something. >> The officers collect all the shoplifted items and continue to question her >> in my pockets. That's what I have on me. It's because I did. >> What are you reaching for in your life? >> I'm sorry. I'm trying to do that I have. Yeah. >> This is okay. >> Because like I literally moved here and start over. >> I know. >> My whole life. And I'm so sorry that I did that and I'm like really >> I got really scared. >> You got really scared. >> So sorry. >> So this and this >> and >> this and this. I'm >> so sorry. Yeah. I'm think No. No. Whatever is is on me. >> That's it. Okay. Where's your driver's license? >> I I don't have it. You don't have a license? >> But you know what? I do have a license. A debit card over here. >> Yeah, I do. >> I do have a >> I'm good. I appreciate it. >> So, I was the whole crew here. >> Yeah. It sound like something. >> No. So, I was leaving the bathroom and I started putting stuff in a waistband and then just tossing it. I literally just sp and then I was like, "Are you really shot in front of me?" And I sort of stopped walking and she starts walking. She was waiting for me in the car. So that's why I got on the radio for her to come out cuz I'm trying to grab her and she's actively pulling, bracing, pushing. She pee, urinated on herself, so she was very scared. I haven't spoken with um Walgreens at all yet. It kind of all happened quickly. Didn't want to press any charges about it. >> Okay. >> Um and that's where I'm at right now. >> Okay. >> All right. What's What else is down here? >> You have more stuff down here. >> I'm just getting more makeup items that are >> more stuff. Got you. >> Ma'am, what's your first name? >> It's Mia. Mia. >> M I A. Yeah, it's on my debit card. >> M I A. Meanwhile, one of the deputies speak with store [music] staff to determine if Walgreens wants to press charges. Here's what they decide. >> How you doing, man? >> Are you willing to pursue charges on the makeups that that lady stole? Are you aware of anything that happened? >> Uh, I know the cashier told me that they caught somebody stealing like in the act. >> I guess she stole some makeup stuff that she pulling out of her pockets now. So, I was just It's up to you all if you wanted to pursue. It's up to you. >> If not, we can trespass her. Totally. >> Do you know how much it is? >> No, I mean like we'll gather it and show you and then make your decision then. Is that what you >> Yeah, cuz I know usually if it's like over a hundred bucks, they'll cross charges. If it's below that, I think they just trespass them. >> Okay. Yeah, no problem. I'll talk to you in a minute. >> It sound like Oh, is that all? >> He wants to see all the stuff first. If it's under 100 bucks, we'll just trespass. If it's over, then I guess she's going to jail. So, >> I'll bring it inside. >> So, these are all the items that I found on her person. I don't know what they will total or the male if it's totaled over a hundred they want to >> charger her if not the male that's in that red tank top kept coming around the corner I told him to stay away just in case if he's over there >> yeah there's a couple that are definitely over like 15 bucks in there so >> yeah it's close enough to where I'd probably do it >> if you want to press I mean that's fine we can >> if you guys can that helps us we got to take her for anyways. >> And so when they see it without a normal charge, >> then it kind of loses it. They're like, "Okay, well, she was fighting, but we're like, well, she was leaving with the stuff, so the deputy did what she should do." So, >> is there any way you can do an itemized receipt of these? >> Yeah, I can do that. >> Take these over one register. >> Okay. Thank you. >> What I'm going to do? Yeah. >> Oh, I thought they were going to >> They already did. >> Oh, and they said, >> "Yep, they're going to press charges. You're going to go to jail. We're going to see what they want to do with your car, and then we'll go from there." >> Mia is taken into custody, and arrangements are made to handle her vehicle and contact information. One officer coordinates with Walgreens [music] to review security footage, confirming what he saw firsthand during the incident. >> So, can I write down a phone number out of the that phone? We'll deal with all that once we get you in the car and secure it. Okay. >> Okay. >> You good to go to the back? >> Can I just grab my two quarters? >> Grab our two quarters real quick. >> That way. >> Oh, I guess you don't have really, right? >> Yeah. Come on. >> Oh, where are we going? >> Going on the right or the left? >> You have to go butt in first. Okay. Just watch your head. M >> you good. >> Huh? >> Hi, how are you, sir? >> I'm good. My name is Deputy Liptac from the sheriff's office. Obviously, I actively watched her shoplifting. >> Okay. >> Um I know you guys did state you wanted to press charges. >> Okay. Are you What is your title here? >> Shift lead. >> Shift lead. Okay. >> Oh, I got the other information. >> You got the other one. Okay. >> Dear, >> where's she at? I just need somebody that'd be willing. Awesome. >> Right behind you. >> Behind you. Okay, got that. Perfect. Do you guys have access to like the cameras? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> What happened? >> I can take one of you back to the office. >> Perfect. Thank you. I saw her right here doing it all and then throwing stuff in here. And this is when I stopped and I was walking up. >> Oh god. >> Cuz she was like right that. And I was like, "Are you what are you doing?" And then she kept walking fast. In the end, Mia is charged for both shoplifting and resisting arrest. Number three, police catch probationer stealing from Dollar General. Officers respond to a Dollar General after staff report a woman acting suspiciously. They believe she's shoplifted based on her behavior and prior visits. Store staff call the police to step in. >> I believe that she has things in her purse. Okay. >> Um, they've been in and out before. They've walked out with bags. They're very sketchy. They just One hangs out up here, the other one hangs out in the back. And >> Okay. >> She keeps her purse really close to her. And >> yeah. >> Okay. Anything with the guy? >> Huh? >> This guy have anything? >> I wouldn't be able to tell you for sure cuz I'm more worried about the big person. >> Okay. Hi. Hi, I'm Officer Jensen. Um, staff is concerned that you might have placed some items. We just checked out. >> Okay. You care if I check your bag? >> Well, I mean, I was at another store before I came here. >> Okay. >> I was at Dollar Tree. >> Is there something from Dollar Tree that would be in your bag? >> Probably. >> What would that be? >> Um, body wash or I don't know. I'll get there. >> Would you have receipts for it? Um I'll somewhere probably. Um >> do you mind if I take a look? >> Yeah, go ahead. >> Okay. >> Can we just step over here and see what's >> Would that be the receipt from the other store? >> Um I'm looking. >> Okay. >> I have a couple of them. >> Oh. Oh, I need paper. What I do? But yeah, this came from Dollar Tree. Dollar Tree. >> Let me find my >> We've done a lot of shopping today. >> Okay. >> No, this one, >> Dad. I do need to take that. >> Okay. >> I don't know. >> Do you have any ID with you that I could probably open and wait? >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> Mhm. My other reasons are going to be in the truck probably. >> Okay. >> But yeah, they can take this back. I don't >> 55 1027.
