I got it. Hold on a second. >> This incident took place on September 4th, 2026, and the man was identified as 41-year-old Shawn Bottom. Police have reportedly stated he has no prior arrests and no documented mental health history. After he approached the officer with his multi-knife, Sergeant Dennis Dooley discharged his service rifle one time, which hit Bottom, [music] causing him to begin losing balance on top of the bridge. He was luckily caught by the negotiating officer, which took a vast amount of skill and control to keep Bottom from falling off. His multi-knife and a flashlight he also had on him were recovered from the scene and collected as evidence. Following the incident, officers removed Bottom from the suspension cable and provided life-saving measures to him. He was then transported in an ambulance to NYC Health and Hospitals Bellevue, where he was [music] pronounced deceased. While difficult to hear Bottom in the body cam footage, he reportedly claimed to have a bomb during the incident. No bomb was found on Bottom or at the scene. According to local reporting, Bottom's mother stated his behavior shown in the body cam footage does not track with what she knew about him, saying, quote, "My son wasn't depressed. My son had no mental health issues. He wasn't on any medication." She also stated the last time she had spoken to him was a week before his [music] death. Bottom's next door neighbor has also reportedly stated he was a quiet guy who kept to himself. Following the incident, NYPD has since said its Force Investigation Division will continue to investigate and analyze the shooting.
