Scamming might feel like easy money until you're caught in the act with no way out. Here are four cases when bank scamming Karens get caught red-handed and instantly arrested. Number four, 18-year-old ends up learning a hard lesson after her first attempt at fast cash. On May 22nd, 2024, Florida officers responded to a bank reporting a fraud in progress. A woman was allegedly attempting to cash a $1,500 check and something about it didn't sit right. After calling around, the staff learned she had already tried the same thing at other branches. That's when the police stepped in. >> Gerber. >> Groover. >> Yeah. Deputy >> Ethan. >> All right. >> Hello. >> This is Deputy Gver. >> Mhm. Just want to talk a little bit about reach out to you, Captain. I've got you training cash checks for $1,500. Got a couple different branches. One was here this morning. So, I have that one right now. And we did do it for you cuz you're an existing client of ours while you've never had the issues. But then I also ended going to multiple other branches, cashing the same checks from the same person for $1,500. You just kind of looked a little more suspicious. So, we were looking at it more. >> I understand. >> Yep. You said >> I mean, I know I did the two. >> I did give my card to somebody for a while. >> Okay. >> Well, I won't tell y'all who cuz you know, I mean, at the end of the day, y'all can put it on me, so I never throw nobody up under the bus. >> Okay. >> So, yeah. >> You said that was your aunt, right, that wrote you those checks? Mhm. >> Really? All right. How old are you? >> 18. >> Okay. So, here before we go much further, I'm going to read you your rights. Have you ever had your rights read to you? You have. Okay, that's fine. I just I'm going to read them to you. >> If you decide to talk to a lawyer now or I'm sorry, let me restart. If you decide to answer any questions now without a lawyer present, you still have the right to stop answering at any time and speak with a lawyer. Do you understand that? So, after having your rights read to you, do you wish to speak to me? You don't want to You don't want to speak to me. Okay. All right. So, can you stand up for me? >> Can I put my hands up real quick? >> Yep. That's fine. >> And actually, real quick, since you're being comp, I'm going to definitely need you to take your cell phone out of your pocket. Is there anything else in your shorts at all? >> Uh-uh. >> Okay. All right. Can you turn around for me? All right. Can you turn it kind of backwards like? Yeah, just like that and like that'll be probably the most comfortable for you. >> She starts off silent, declining to answer anything. However, the cuffs seem to change her mind. Now she's willing to talk. With that, the officer rereads her Miranda rightites before pressing forward with questions. >> You want to answer a few questions? >> Sure. >> All right. >> So, first question is, how did you become in possession of that truck? It was given to me. >> It was given to you by >> I can't tell you the name. >> Can't tell me the name. >> I don't know it. >> Just met. >> How y'all met? >> Outside. >> 957. >> You just met him outside. >> My boyfriend. >> How did you get here? >> This one. >> He told me. Pretty much the person >> they just gave me the checks like it's from me. >> It's legit. I got told me it was his glo. >> So he told you it was his so and you believed him. sort of kind of got money. >> What? >> This? >> So what what he got money? What does he do? Our stuff scammer. >> No, he works. >> Where he works at? >> Where he works at? >> Can't tell me. >> So but you going to get yourself caught up with some shenanigan for some dude that don't care. You say you didn't know him, but where he works at though? >> It's just a coach. Like just a coach. >> He's a coach, >> but I don't know where. >> Football team. >> I don't know. Talk very much. >> So, how long you know how long you know this dude? >> Not long. >> What's not long? A week? Two weeks? 3 weeks? A month? Two months? >> A week? Just >> a week. It's clear she's not the one pulling the strings. The check came from someone else, but when pressed about the man who gave her the check, she came up blank. And whether that's the truth or a cover, the officers aren't sure yet. >> But so how y'all plugged up? How y'all connected? >> Just met. >> You just walking down the street like, "Hey, what's up?" >> Yeah, like at the store. So when when was that check written out? He hand it to you written out or did you write it when you got the cash up to the front? >> He wrote it back. >> He you sign it back. >> I signed it back. >> When you sign the back when you got here? So why you protecting this person if if he's doing all this and you're risking your name for the sake of what? So $1,500. How much he he cut you? >> I don't know his name. >> What I'm saying though, if he >> I'm not trying to go to jail. Just turned 18. I don't even have a record, >> right? >> I don't want to be in this situation. If I knew old boy name, I would have told you. Like I said, man, these scammers, this is what they do. They get in people and do this type of stuff and you get caught up. Oh boy. probably give you his real name or whatever. He probably give you a nickname to run with. >> Exactly. >> Or or you could you can know him. You just don't give information. What kind of car you doing? >> See you. >> It was the wife. >> It was the white van. >> I can't deal with this. >> So, I'm here in the car. Huh? >> How many people in the car? >> Two. But he was the only one that You feel me? >> Who? He was the only one. What? He was driving? >> Yeah. >> So, who was in the passenger? Your boyfriend? >> No. Yeah. It was my cousin, but he's not involved in this stuff. >> He has to be involved in some type of way. She stays quiet about the driver holding her ground, but the officers aren't giving up knowing even a single clue could crack this wide open. >> Just there for a ride and he is not involved. >> So why he why he ain't tell buddy just stay there for you or go see what's going on. I mean if my cousin my cousin went inside somebody took off with me. I'm like and what y'all left why you left my cousin? Let me out. He already got his own little things going on. >> So he knew what was going on there. >> No, but he wouldn't put himself in no position to go back to jail cuz he wasn't involved. Simple. Just old boy. >> They don't want to give old boy name. >> I don't know his name. >> You got no nickname something. You can't tell me he met me somebody y'all y'all didn't exchange no name or nothing like that. He fa to do this type of work with him. >> Yeah. It really is just like starting to talk like he don't even know my name. >> So a whole week I just Hey, what's up? Hey, what's up? Now I don't address nothing. So he be texting you. >> No. See >> just seeing what I see. >> See it got to be it got to be a middle man, man. It don't make sense at all. So, y'all just randomly me and bump into each other every time. >> I mean, it's not like we met a week ago, but it's not like we just like >> if you met a week ago, >> you had to communicate somehow. >> We end up seeing each other at the store. It was like I was telling him about my trip and he was like, "Oh, I got you. I got so many out there. I >> mean, right now you're looking at four felony charges. >> How many? >> Four. >> Four. >> Four. >> And that's >> Oh, you got to see a judge tomorrow morning. >> With the facts on the table. It's time to face the fallout from her role in this attempted fraud. >> And he's going to set a bond for you. And you can choose to pay the whole amount or pay 10% of that. And mine's going to be in a couple of thousand just to let you know. >> So how many time beside this check, right? How many how many other checks he gave you? >> Two. >> Two more. >> Yeah. >> Those two were depositing your account. >> Yeah. back. >> All right. You going to leave that door open? >> Yes, sir. >> Um, all at this bank. >> What other bank? >> I'm here at 60. >> And where else? >> That's it. >> I didn't have my car full. >> What am I even doing? Anyways, let me just tell I don't know his name like dead serious, but >> he be on that. >> He's on his camera. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, who's the middleman? >> I can't tell you that cuz that person doesn't deserve that cuz they're not even doing nothing. They just sit there. >> You got to understand though, if You guys got some organized thing going on, right? And you are >> the least person that's talking, >> right? >> So, you are basically like the bottom of the bottom, right? No disrespect. >> The officer understands she's not the one running the scheme. She's just the delivery method. Someone easy to manipulate and easy to leave behind. So you like a bottom fish. You're not the person that we I really want. I want to know who's the mastermind, who's organizing all this, who's doing all that. You just just the lower end that's going to get caught >> cuz that person know eventually this check going to come back fraudulent. You go inside bank. You don't think they got surveillance in here? >> I mean I would think you know that too, right? You would have known. You know that too also. So that's a that's a risk you took also. >> But things he told me, right? >> Like these are not fake checks. These these are my checks. Got you. >> But you got to understand if it's if it's his check, if it's the legit, why is he why is he not cashing on his account? Why did he have to get somebody to do it for >> your That's true. When I was being done, I should have paid more attention. I just don't know this man. >> I'm trying to think. >> So, if I was to find that vehicle, do you think there would be more would there be more checks inside that vehicle? >> Maybe. >> Or other stolen stuff in that vehicle as far as fraud stuff? >> Maybe. Yeah. >> I don't know. >> Where would it be at? I don't know. You just have to check. >> All right, then. Um, no. Anyone want to tell me nothing else? >> I don't know anything else. >> I'm just asking I'm just asking if you if you want to tell me whatever information. Like I said, so far I have nothing. I can't I can do my investigation, try to figure it out, but >> I'm scared. >> I got nothing. >> All right. All right. Give me a second. Outside, the suspect's mother watches as things unfold. The officer steps in to explain the charges and what's going to happen next. >> Is M coming? >> Hey, what's up? >> Is Mun coming or >> Mun? Yeah, he's coming back. This is mom. >> Hello. How you doing? >> Hello. >> This is the detective. >> Yeah, I'm not working this, but I I just came and try to talk to her. >> Is she going to jail? That's where she is. >> Do you know who she hanging with? >> He just told me about some dudes. I don't even know who the that could be. >> She said one of them was She said one of them was her cousin. >> That girl go to school and go to work. Supposed to be at work right now. It's 3:00. >> She did mention something earlier about needing to be at work. >> You're going to lose your job. You work at a nursing home. >> Which makes me nervous where she's getting these checks cuz this is I hate to say it. This is typically how it happens. >> Wait, what the >> This is driving me crazy. I just don't understand. I mean, they got to make their own mistakes, though, >> right? >> How you knew she was here? >> Huh? >> How you knew she was here? >> I got a phone call. She text me and said, "Mommy, I'm going to go to jail." All right. Go. >> This person standing out front, are they with you? >> That's That's your mom. >> Okay. Huh? >> She's still out there. >> Oh, yeah. >> Were you pregnant or have any health issues? >> You got to learn from your mistakes. >> You don't have anything on you. No contents. No, nothing. Mom has it all. Okay. >> Before the door closes, her mother tells her a few final words. >> Don't say nobody. Keep your mouth closed. >> Are those um >> griers? >> I'm going to call you. >> Where's your phone at? Got her phone. >> Okay. How is it still? Yeah, I got I have >> the phone when she's in booking is free. It's free in booking, but I don't know. I think so. >> I have a good fence with her. Uh I don't know. Did you get a hug or any of that? I I told her she's been >> She didn't want a hug. >> They want a hug. Okay. I just want to make sure. >> Yeah. Do I want a hug? >> You going to go It's going to be cold, baby. You going to get a taste of this. You going to have to learn, sweetheart. I love you. >> Don't cry. Don't cry. Thank you. >> Are you going to follow me there? >> Don't cry. Can you wipe my face first? >> Don't cry. In the end, she was charged with depositing with intented defraud, uttering a forged check, and presenting a worthless check. Number three, scammer makes one bad decision after another. This next call came from a region's bank where a woman's attempt to cash a fraudulent check set off alarms. Watch what unfolds when officers confront the suspect. >> You got your um It's right there. I'm sorry. Is there a problem? >> Yeah. Where'd your friend go? >> Um, my cousin. >> Yeah. >> Um, I'm assuming to the car. Is I'm sorry. Is there a problem? >> Yeah. Where'd she go? >> Hey, what's the What's the issue? >> Well, she just left without you. Where'd she go? >> She went back to I'm actually supposed to be leaving now because I had to go pick up um my nephew. But what's going on? >> Okay. Where'd she go to? >> I just said to the car, sir. What is going on again? She got She got in a car in the middle of the road. >> I'm sorry. In the in the middle of the road. >> Yeah. When she saw me saw me, she ran out of here. >> Okay. So, they left me. >> Yeah. >> I don't even have my phone on me. >> Okay. Just hang up. >> What's your name? Serenity. >> Serenity. Yes. >> Okay. back towards the shelter now. >> There is a case worker that's following her. >> Hi, how you doing? >> How you doing? >> Yeah, you can slide down. >> What's that? >> So, here's the You can find that >> face to face with a bank manager. The officer gets the full story. How the check was flagged, what triggered suspicion, and why they made the call. >> So, Jim Milford, I told him the call and he's our corporate security. Okay. Um, so the other day we've had a very we get the similar situations all the time where it's kind of like what happens is they get these fraudulent checks. They put enough money in the account to try to cash the check against it. >> Um, and then they appear fraudulent. So we had one the other day that came in yesterday. >> Was it the same? >> A different girl, but I imagine it's like the same probably the same group >> at your branch. >> Was it >> at your branch? Yeah, there was another girl here yesterday and um she went to Golf Gate. She left here. She went to Golf Gate and they called the police. So now, >> okay, >> she's here. We got information from another branch that said that she was there. Um and what's been happening is they have a bunch of different checks. So, I don't know about this one specifically, but it's usually like the same thing. So, um he's got the information for another branch. They just said be on the lookout because what they do is they hit all the branches. >> Yeah. >> Um and then they have different checks. So, and then we were trying to stall her and that's when he came in that kid and he's like, "What's taking so long?" And I was just trying to stall her. >> Okay. Was that a male or female? I couldn't tell. >> Oh, I don't know. I thought it was a boy. >> Yeah. I'm not sure >> what the the Oh, I don't know. I'm sorry. I thought it was a boy. I didn't really >> um >> So, explain to me one more time. You were saying they were putting money into the account. >> So, what they do is they have an account with us, right? So they deposit cash in and then they get these checks payable to them and they they must steal the checks or whatever because they get have different ones and they go around. So they put money in say she deposited $900 today or whatever, right? So what they do is they come around and they cash these checks because it looks like they have enough to cover the jack. So they cash the check, they pull out the money and then they're gone and they just and they hit all the branches in the area, all of our branches. Now this isn't a region's check, so I don't I don't know. But hang on. He's um hang I'm trying to call you. So he he called the other branch. So he >> Turns out the manager seen this play before. Scammers gather personal info, forge checks, and send others to do the dirty work. All in exchange for a quick cut. >> One second. >> So just to here, ma'am, I'm kind of >> Yeah. Yeah. So it's pretty common thing that happens at the banks. Um so they have an account with us. So wait, there's like a ring of them or >> she does. >> Yeah. So they like have like a ring of people and what they do is they deposit like cash and they account like 900 bucks. Okay. >> They got multiple checks. I don't know if you can see this when I can show you a picture. I couldn't print it any better, but they went she went to Cortez Road at like earlier today at like 12:00 today. >> And she had a different completely different check for $743. So what they try to do is they say, "What's my available balance?" Oh, I have $900 in there. So they know they have $900. Sometimes banks don't know any better and what they'll do is they'll cash the check against the $900 saying that they have medical. >> We're we're kind of wondering though how they're do you have any idea how they're getting these checks? >> I mean is does is this Sharon want this check stolen or is it a I mean is it >> um well Lisa is calling me because there's a different check that she had. So it's completely different person. Yeah. So I don't she's going to give me the details on that one. >> And is that one a branch member? I haven't called and verified this one yet, but >> um hang on, let me show you. >> So, Surren has an accountant. >> Okay, she's claiming >> see this check. >> So, at least the branch manager >> cuz they always look like almost like the same handwriting had somebody same thing um >> yesterday that came in. They hit they hit all of our locations. So they hit three or four locations with three or four different checks. They're trying to get us to cash it and then they pull their 900 out and then they skip down and then they're gone. >> One second. Yeah. >> Let's hook her up real quick. I'm going to bring her back in here. >> Okay. >> And then if we can, if you want to step out, I'm just going to question her. >> The initial report is clear enough. The officers secure the woman, placing her in custody as they prepare to take the next steps in the investigation. Let's say you're going to dude. >> Yeah, we're going to step in here real quick. Hold on one second. Okay. So, I'm going to assume you know what's going on. I'm going to read you uh your Miranda rights real quick. >> Okay. What's in my >> Fair enough? >> Before questioning begins, officers read the woman her rights. However, just moments into the process, they make a discovery that takes the situation in a completely new direction. >> What's funny? >> Nothing. >> I'm going to read you your Miranda warning. Okay. >> Okay. >> You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. >> Do you understand each of these rights I've explained to you? >> Yes, sir. Having these rights in mind, do you wish to talk to us? >> I'm sorry to say it over. >> Having these rights in mind, do you wish to talk to us? >> No. >> I would like to have like a family or something with me. >> How old are you? >> 18. >> Okay. You're an adult. >> I know. >> Okay. I have a sister-in-law that works at a correctal facility. >> Mhm. >> I would like to get a caught back with her. >> Well, here here's what's going to happen. You're going to be going to jail today. Okay. >> Regarding what's what's going on here, if you like to talk, >> but I'm still going to go to jail. >> Yes, you do. How am I like what's going to happen to me? >> Well, you're going to go to jail or you're going to be bumped and >> like girl. >> Yes, you're an adult. >> Okay. What if they beat me up or something? >> You'll be protected. >> Protected. >> Were your uh were your friends going to come back to get you or were they going? >> I don't know what happening. >> Do you want to explain to her what you'd be in charge of? Uh, you're being charged with uttering a forge incident in >> this check right here is not belong to you and was not written to you. Correct. >> Well, well, that's what you're being charged with. >> And now I'm going to be I'm going to be charged with the gun because they put a gun in my >> put a what? Oh, they did. >> Yep, they did. The discovery of a loaded firearm changes everything. What started as a fraud investigation now includes a serious weapons charge and she's expected to explain herself. >> Do you want to tell us about this? >> I think I was >> you were set up. >> I don't know. I'm just going along with >> Hey, I'm going to make a phone call. Oh my god. >> Yep. >> Can we please call somebody? >> Uh, hey, a bullet just fell down there. You want to grab that for me? >> Yep. Okay. So, you wanted a lawyer. You didn't want to speak. So, now we're not asking you any questions. Okay. Well, what questions are you going to ask me? >> We I can't ask them because you already determined you did not want to speak to us. >> No, I don't want this to happen like this. >> Well, this is happening at this point. >> I can tell you what you want to ask me about. >> So, at this point, so I I'll tell you. >> Please don't talk to me like this. I'm not a bad kid. >> Okay. >> Okay. First of all, you're a young woman now. You're not a kid at all. >> Yes, sir. I understand. We we spoke to we spoke to >> No, don't ask questions. >> Off that desk, >> please. I I'm I apologize. This just this just escalated. >> Yeah. >> So, Miss Jones, Miss Jones, >> that young woman. >> Yes, sir. >> Never heard of her. >> Never heard of you. Certainly didn't write you a check. >> Okay. >> So, you're being charged with that? I understand who's checking the area. >> Do you have a concealed weapons permit? >> I do not. >> Okay. >> So now you're being charged with carrying a concealed firearm. >> I understand. >> Okay. By any chance, are you a convicted felon? >> No. >> Okay. Well, then you won't be charged with that. Those are the two charges you're looking. >> How long have I done with that? She breaks down, visibly shaken by how fast things have unraveled. But regret doesn't erase what's already on record. This is crazy. I've never been to jail. I just got out of foster care. Oh my god. I was just out of work as the correctional officer. Could you >> Is there any chance that you can put my hair up? >> Ma'am, I I don't do hair. Just we'll we'll brush it away when we get to Jim. >> Oh, wow. I'm really bad at I know how many bullets were >> it was loaded with one in the clip. >> Isn't that like extra years every bullet? >> I don't believe so. >> I don't believe so. Where is the serial number? Oh. Uh-oh. This just gets worse and worse. >> What happened? >> Possession of a firearm with an altered serial number. >> Oh my god. >> I'm going to have to look it up. But I think that's a charge, too. >> This is not fair to me. >> What? >> Uh, it's an altered serial number. possession of a firearm with an ultra serial number is a charge also, right? >> With each new discovery, the charges begin to pile up. Now, the officers are working through the details, deciding what exactly she'll be booked for. >> Is it? >> Yeah, it is. >> What about possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony? >> That's what I sound like. So you've got CCW fire. >> So you're trying to add to our design. >> You're going to have like five. >> Why are you trying to make it work? >> You got uttering concealed firearm to me. I don't know. I'll look it up. >> And then possess firearm felony with the firearm. >> Well, how >> I don't know. She didn't I mean >> we'll look it up. I think >> merely possessing it while committing cuz she's not using it. It wasn't used, >> you know. It wasn't part of that. >> So there's no >> Well, what are we waiting on now? >> He's calling C. I mean, we can probably go ahead and load it up. >> Yeah, I can't I can't run this. I was going to try to run it. >> I have a question. >> 61. >> So, being that I've never been in this situation before, >> and this >> I know I'm doing it, so I take responsibility for it. Even like the gun is crazy. like this is not fair because I have nothing to do with that and yeah, I'll take responsibility, but like there's no way I can get out of it because it was in my purse. >> Listen, at some point someone's going to question you. Okay, >> cool. If you don't want to talk to us right now, that's that's just fine. >> I can talk. I like what do you want me to tell you? >> You didn't want to talk. >> I want to talk. I didn't know like this was going to happen. >> Now it's up to her. Either she'll remain silent or speak up. As her emotions take over, it's clear she's hoping the talking might spare her from the worst of it. >> Listen, >> I'm only 18. >> The law takes this very seriously. When we read you, Miranda, you say you don't want to speak until you have a lawyer. We're pretty much hands off. >> I didn't mean with a lawyer, but like with like somebody I'm very vulnerable. Like I've never like I just don't know what to do. Okay. >> So, are you saying that you do not want a lawyer >> and you do want to speak to us? >> But like what does speaking to you mean? >> Explaining your side of this. >> Of course I do. I will speak to you and say my side cuz I deserve that. >> Your exact words when I held this purse was it's not mine. Yes. >> I said, "What is it?" I said, "What's not yours?" You said, "What's in that purse?" That indicates to me you knew what was in that purse. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. I'm not going to ask you questions, but if you want to tell me a story, go ahead. >> No, it's it's not a story. I'm I'm saying it is in my purse. >> Okay. >> I knew it was in my purse, but like >> I wasn't using it. I was just >> No, you weren't. And I'm not accusing you of using it. I know, but like they I had just put my purse first. >> They they >> they What's our status? Are we >> We're ready to roll. >> You ready? >> Yeah. The woman's actions earned her a long list of charges, including fraud, forging government documents, and illegally carrying a firearm with an altered serial number. Number two, woman thought a little fraud would make his birthday memorable. It did. On July 16th, 2024, Florida officers were dispatched to TD Bank after reports of a woman trying to cash a fake US savings bond. Here's what happened next. >> Hello. >> Hi. We need a docky for a minute. >> Okay. >> I'll hang on to this. Okay. >> All right. Can we go over here real quick? >> Yeah. >> Your friend asked you to bring her over here or >> Yeah, cuz her car needs to be um repaired for the brakes and something underneath the bottom. >> Oh, I don't know. >> You don't know what she's bringing there? >> No. >> Okay. >> Um at this point, you're not free to leave. Okay. and we are going to be asking you questions that are uh incriminating in nature or could be incriminating in nature. So, I'm going to read your Miranda warning. >> What happened? >> She didn't try to stick your plate. >> What happened? You didn't try to stick to the plate. He's not like that. >> Yeah, it's not that. This would have been totally different if we had more, you know. But >> I see you guys are like Oh, cars. Three cars. I see like another car. >> Four. because mine is over there. >> With these rights in mind, are you willing to talk to us? >> Yeah, looks like >> perfect. Like I said, I don't have any questions right this second. But um except for some I guess preliminary stuff, but um what are you uh what are you doing today? >> Um I was just trying to cash a bond that I received. >> A bond that you received. Okay. Where'd you get the bond from? >> Um I actually got it from my cousin. >> Yeah. I don't know the whole story. So that's why they're trying to figure out when I was young. >> And do you know where she got the bond from? >> Um, no I don't. Okay. >> Um, I know that it was from my grandmother who passed away and she just gave it to me and told me that I couldn't do it. >> Okay. It was from It's your grandmother that passed away? >> Yeah, it was our grandmother. My my grandmother who passed away. Yes. >> Okay. >> She said she has no idea what she used to all her car is is down right now. >> Where are you guys coming from? We were going to celebrate today is my birthday. We were going to celebrate my birthday. >> When did your grandmother pass? >> My grandmother passed away like a year ago. >> A year ago. Okay. And was your cousin hanging on to these bonds the whole time or or how? >> From what I was under the impression she was. >> Okay, I gotcha. >> Well, if you can, Miranda. >> She's clearly caught off guard when the officer informs her that she's also being investigated. As the driver for her alleged cousin, she's now tied to the scheme and read her rights before questioning begins. >> You want a wheel? >> No, no, no. I'm It's Everyone thinks, "Oh, yeah. When we do that, >> my birthday." >> Yeah. This is just to protect your rights. Um, can I call my >> Yeah. Go ahead. >> When did your cousin get these bombs to you or this bomb to you? >> Uh, I got it two days ago. >> Gotcha. Did she give it to you by mail or did she give it in person? >> In person. >> In person. >> Okay. I got >> right now. >> Okay. Do you know um what her phone number is off the top of your head? >> No. >> Do you understand these rights? >> And with these rights in mind, are you willing to talk to them? >> Who else? >> She a lot of people think that, but no. >> No. Because listen, I I've had a difficult life and I'm trying to get my life together. Today is my birthday. >> I'm sorry. >> How often do you see your cousin? >> Um, well, I live in Claremont. So, >> Oh, you live in Claremont? >> Yeah. >> Okay. I got >> I don't see her that often cuz I have a son, so >> Oh, yeah. That makes sense. >> And I'm in school. >> What are you in school for? >> Surgical tech. >> Oh, really? >> Yeah. >> I'm in med school, so >> Oh, very nice. Okay, good stuff. >> Who is she trying to cash a check or just take money out for? >> Um, she didn't have a check. It was something from her grandma passing away. >> You said something like what? Do you know? >> Um I don't remember. It was It was in her book bag. >> Same thing. Arch, >> where did you uh where did you leave? Um >> same checks. >> Yeah, it look like they're printing them off a printer thing. But what's getting them caught up is this. You got a check dated for 92 and you were born in '96. >> Um, and are you going to families or are you coming from family? >> I was coming from >> So, um, I Well, I was home and then I was going to my and I was actually on my >> As officers dig deeper, they find that both women have been running a scam using fake account information to try their luck at multiple banks. cuz she hit Daytona, Orman Beach, and a couple of other stores >> and they all denied her and she came here. >> You're getting wet. You want me to get out so we can stand under there so you're not getting wet? >> We can if you want. >> It's going to be easier to arrest you. >> No, I'm serious. >> So, right now, I don't know. I just read you those rights, you know, so I can ask specific questions. Okay. Um, for now I don't see why we can't let you go unless they, you know, have a different story to tell or whatnot. So, we just got, you know, a call saying that she wrote was in this car. So, that's why, you know, you're not freedom. >> It's up to you. Whatever. >> No, it's not funny >> because what is this? >> Yeah. >> Has she had any trouble before with all that? >> She's a good girl. Who's the person driving? And the >> That's the baby. >> Baby. Whose baby do you? >> She's my friend. >> Your friend. Okay, I got you. Um, was she with you all day or how did you baby her baby? >> Um, she took me up from my house >> from your house. Okay, so she went to your family. >> Okay, I got you. All righty. Um, did did she knew that know that you had this bond and everything like that? >> Um, I mean, she dropped me off. Appreciate it. >> I got you. Did you tell her what you uh you were coming in here for? You just told her you need to go to the bank. >> No, I just told her I needed to come in here. >> Okay, I got you. No worries. All righty. Appreciate it. Keep hanging out for me. >> Sarge, I'm going to go talk to the driver. >> With the suspect already in custody, the officer heads out to the driver looking to see if their stories line up or if one of them is about to slip. Hello. >> Hi. >> I'm Coral Johnson. >> How you doing? >> I'm doing all right. Um, so like I was explaining to um I'm sorry. Who? The >> Lana. >> Uhhuh. >> Lana. >> Lana. Yes. I explained to her why we're here. I don't know if officer do explain it to you. >> Yeah. So, we're working a fraud. So, we're trying to make sure either prove that a fraud did occur or did not occur or at least, you know, find the probable cause. >> What though? >> Uh what she was trying to cash. So, um, >> was it a check? >> Huh? >> A check? >> It >> I don't think it was a check. >> What do you think it was? >> She said it was from her great grandma or something. >> From her great grandma. >> Yeah. Okay. I got >> her mom gave them all. >> Okay. Did you say where she got it from? Like specifically? >> No. The original plans for for me to go get a outfit cuz today is my 30th birthday. >> Happy birthday. >> Thank you. And um we were just dibbling and dabbling and I told her like it's getting late. My mom literally I could show you. My mom is like um are we going to make it out to eat? I'm like I'm about to drop Lana off. I told her I don't want to go anywhere. It's raining. My hair is done. She was like he picked me up. It's up to you. Thought we just do something like like today is literally my birthday. I I >> Oh no. I got you. But what we're going to do is try to get through this as quickly as we can just so that way we can get you to have your birthday dinner. So, real quick, um where did you uh and uh Lana meet up at? >> What do you mean? >> Like when you guys first got together today, where was that at? >> Um I was downtown Orlando. We were going to go to this taco spot for Taco Tuesday, but then they said that they um they didn't open until 3:00. So, I'm like, "Okay, let's go." So, then we stopped at um another bank. Then, we came here. We went to Waw Wa. I was going to go into Ross. >> The moment she mentions the first stop at another branch, the officer knows she's just given them something big and it might be exactly what they need to crack the case. Before you continue, what was the other bank you stopped at? >> I don't know. >> You don't know the name or anything like that? >> It was It was this bank. >> Another TD bank. >> Do you know um Do you know what she was going in that one for? >> No, I don't know. >> No, she didn't tell you. >> I'm literally tired. I sat back. I put my feet up and >> I got you. How long was she in that TD bank for, do you think? Approximately. >> I don't want. >> No, >> honestly, I don't like No worries. >> I wasn't paying paying attention. >> Yeah. So, okay. So, after after your uh the visit to the other bank, what happened after that? >> Um hopped on the highway and I was looking just trying to find a Burlington coat factory, but my DPS is crazy and she's been on the phone with her man the whole ride and we just been listening to music. Good morning. I hate to stop you again. Do you know who her man is? >> No. >> No. You've never met him? Don't know his name? Nothing? >> Nicknames? Anything? >> I She just like >> this is my friend. >> I got you. >> But we don't like that is not my business. Like she has headphones on talking to him. So I don't know >> none of the conversation going on. I've been playing Monica so I really don't >> Okay, I got you. All right. I'm sorry. She's a good girl. She's a sweet girl. No. Yeah, she's very nice. That's why I'm so confused right now. >> Yeah. No, no, I understand. No, she's very nice and uh I'm getting the same vibe. But anyways, I I hate to keep I'm sorry to keep cutting you off. Um so you guys are on the highway trying to find a Burlington Coat factory. She's talking to her man. What happens after that? >> I went to the boutique. >> It's It's not It's not a real boutique. It's just a girl that sells like >> Am I going to get in trouble for this? >> Well, counterfeit stuff. Knockoff. >> It's okay. You won't get in trouble. She will, but we ain't worried about that. >> They didn't even have anything my size. So, I was like really >> just discouraged because I'm not >> easy to find an outfit because of my size. So, I was just like >> before the night is over, I want to go get something. >> Yeah, absolutely. >> But there's >> nothing. >> Inside the bank, the officers dropped the act. They already know the account is bogus, and they're letting the first suspect know her cover story isn't holding up. This is not the first case that we've worked this our shift in particular with these pretty much exact same checks. >> Um it's an ongoing investigation and people just keep coming to the same TD bank with these same checks and they just keep getting arrested. >> Okay. >> I understand. Um there's a first time for everything. Okay. So, it's time for you to be very honest about where the check came from and who gave it to you, where'd you get it, stuff like that because you're looking at some pretty serious charges right now. You know that it's not real, right? >> No, I did not know it was real. >> You didn't know that it was real? >> I promise you. >> Okay. So, who gave it to you? >> Her outside. to be on here. >> Yeah. >> What did she tell you to do with it? >> She told you to cash it. >> Okay. How did you guys end up linking up today? Like what was her birthday? >> It's her birthday today. So >> today's her birthday. >> It's her birthday. So she was like, "Hey, do you want to hang out?" She was like, "Um, she was like, "I have a thing where you can make some money." And I was like, "Yeah, is it like thing?" And she was like, "Yeah, like it's perfectly fine." Just like when you have counterfeit money, you can feel the difference in the paper. >> Okay. >> I'm going to show my son. >> Okay. >> When we ask her, when we take her and put her in handcuffs right now, >> what is she going to tell us happened? Is she going to tell us you knew it was fake or she going to tell us? >> She I don't think she's going to tell you she knew it was fake. >> She's going to have some reason why her your name is on it. >> She is. She used the one up my >> cuz right now she's saying she has no idea where it came from and that this was all your idea. I'll be honest with you. That's what she's saying. >> It's not my idea. I've never done anything like this. I don't I don't do >> understand. I'm like >> I got you. >> Mom doesn't mean you can't go to jail. >> I know that. But she was the one that had somebody do it. >> Do you have any evidence of that? >> In a sudden turn, she throws her cousin under the bus, insisting she was talked into it and had no idea what she was getting into. like a picture or something like >> text messages, >> anything, right? >> I probably like where she asked where my info was. >> Yeah, >> yeah, sure. >> Is this the old one? >> No, this is a real one >> that somebody cash. >> Like that's an actual real one. That's the fake one. >> See, like she she sent me this. Like she sent >> When did she send you that? >> That was yesterday. She sent me that. What is that? What is that asking for? >> That's social security number and me did for >> Is that So she was telling you what that that was your stuff or >> No, like this is an example of like ones that she did. >> I gotcha. Do you have any other messages that go along with that? >> So I'm going to go back inside and uh someone will be back out here shortly. >> What's the probable cause? >> A crime. We're trying to figure out if a crime was committed or not. But once we got a probable cause of me getting pulled over while you guys >> you're not paying me. >> She got we got a call saying that a crime was committed that she committed a crime. She got out of your car. So this car is tied to her right now. >> So how So you tried this at several other banks today? >> Well, she brought me to like like two or three. >> Two or three? >> Yeah. >> And it didn't work those times? >> No. So if there's no profitable cause for me because she did something. >> We're trying to like that's why the corporal was out here asking and I was asking questions too to see how you're involved. >> All right, hang out. >> Are we saying anything? >> No, I don't know what they're going about. With enough evidence to consider her a second suspect, the officers now bring the woman near the bank to hear her side of the story. >> All right. So, um my sergeant and I want to ask you some uh some follow-up questions. Before we do that, though, need you to step out of the car just so we can talk to you cuz moving vehicles and active vehicles out of the car. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Thank you. over here in the uh covered things. >> Yeah, we we don't want to mess up your hair cuz I know you just got it done. >> You guys need to go in or >> Nope. We're just getting out of the rain so we can talk to them real quick. Appreciate it. We will eventually but they can let us. >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> You have a car? You got your card? >> Yep. I sure do. Oh, her. Okay. Um, she she read your rights. Um, you understand your right. You're willing to do and everything like that. You're not under arrest. We got to ask questions. Okay. >> So, obviously you understand that we are here. We got called here because there was a report of a possible crime being committed. >> Okay. What was the crime? >> The crime is a fraud. Okay. Uttering a forge document. Time to pass the fake check. Fraudulent check. >> A check? >> Yes. Fake check. Okay. Or other monetary item. Check. >> So, we come here. Mhm. >> They give us some information that there's been a series of events today where people have tried to cash this fraudulent check and it's been unsuccessful and that she's inside as the one that's been trying to utter this force document that's been trying to cash this fake check. >> So, she's the focal point of the investigation. At that point, you're just the rat. Okay. up until the point where she tells us that you gave her the check and she shows us text messages and images from an email from a phone number uh where these checks were being provided to her where there are some personal information being exchanged to put on these checks so that they could be cashed something along the lines of it's legit blah blah blah. >> The blame game begins. The first suspect claims the woman was the source of the fake checks, but the woman denies it, saying it was the first suspect's boyfriend who brought the scheme to life. >> Me or from her boyfriend? >> She is saying that they came from you. >> Her boyfriend. >> Okay. Why would she tell us it was you? >> Maybe because she's >> Well, it's her boyfriend. She's been on the phone literally >> all day with her boyfriend. >> I got you. >> So if you look at her call logs, she's been on the phone all day with her boyfriend. >> I got you. >> I'm just telling I'm just wanted to ask you because that's what she's telling us. She's telling us that she didn't know they were fake. That she cashed them because you told her to. >> So what about her grandma giving them? >> I'll try to figure that out myself because apparently that's all a lie. >> No, I just think that she's trying to cover up for her boyfriend. >> Sorry. I mean she she is providing incriminating information about herself, >> right? >> And implicating you by saying you gave >> you know she so you did not give her these checks. You don't know anything about these checks. >> Her her I know her boyfriend does that type of stuff but she told me that that was from her grandma that she was going to come with me for my birthday. >> I got you. Okay. Um, >> I think her boyfriend >> and I've never met him. Like, I've seen him on FaceTime, but she has earphones in. So, that's how she was communicating with him all day. >> Sarge, what was that email again that she gave you? >> Uh, baby, luhabicloud.com or I'm sorry, Gmail. Oh, no, it was an iCloud. I'm sorry. iCloud. >> Not Gmail. >> So, we sent a search warning to Apple for all the records from that email. >> My iCloud is my LLC >> and that's Yummylicious LLC. >> So, would there be any messages between you, her, and Yummy? >> No, but I know her boyfriend, and I can't remember what his name is, but she just told me that her son be calling him on the phone. As the second suspect grows increasingly defensive, officers quietly review the messages provided by the first woman. Messages detailing how to pull off the check fraud. >> I'm a cancer. Let me just say that. I'm a cancer. So, I'm a good person, but I do not want to go to jail. I cannot go back to jail. I just got out of jail for a violation of probation. >> I haveund probably 40 something days left. I want this life to be behind me. >> I just got approved for a new apartment. Like, I'm really trying to change my life front, >> right? >> I don't drink. I don't smoke. I don't even go clubbing, nothing. Like, today was supposed to be a family filled day. My Fashion Nova order didn't come. So, I didn't have an outfit. I wanted to look nice. I got my hair done yesterday. And now I'm sitting here in the rain. 6:00 in the afternoon. My daughter keeps calling me. She made cake last night. >> Mhm. >> It's like >> I I I understand what you're saying. And And >> And I know this is your job. And I know my man, he takes law, so that's why he's trying to educate me. >> But I cannot. He's so lit. I'm sorry. >> And I'm so big, but I cannot I seriously cannot go to jail. >> I understand. And and >> like even if a crime is committed, I'm not the the blame. I'm not the fault for it. Like >> her boyfriend I know initiated all of this. She said it was all your boyfriend that your boyfriend gave you the checks or whatever. >> No, it wasn't him. >> He has nothing to do with it. Like at all. >> Did you have any contact with him today? >> Earlier like I called him to check on him to make sure he ate and then I just called him just now to see if he could check on my son or me. >> Okay. >> I need a girl who has to make my son. In one of those videos, I showed a tattoo. >> Yeah, she had a thigh tattoo. >> Is she wearing shorts? >> Yeah, she is. >> She just got a thigh tattoo recently. She said >> in the footage shown to officers, the sender of the instructions is seen sporting a thigh tattoo. And if that tattoo lines up with the second suspect, then there's no denying she played a central role in the scheme. Should you go see if it says I had on that side? >> And I let her drive my car. >> Okay. >> That's why my shoes were just on the other side. >> Okay. >> Hello. >> You're going to ask me if that was my phone. Or which one did the check come from? It's there. That was this one. Okay. I was Okay, that's right. That's right. That's right. What about all those pictures of the erasing the social and all that? Where'd that come from? You know what I'm talking about? Like where you were you had the it was like marked out on the social >> the bank and the people who work there have their rights. You have your >> name is Lamar >> because my boyfriend's name middle name is the same as his. It's Lamar. >> It's Lamar. Okay. >> So I know this has everything to do with him. I'm not saying I'm innocent. >> Mhm. But he is her manipulator because he's her provider >> if that makes sense. >> Mhm. >> And she's a sweet girl. She's innocent girl. >> Yeah. No, I got you. >> But look, I do have one question. If I am going to deal, can we wait until my people come? >> Uh, that is We can't facilitate that. It It just depends on how long we're here for. If they show up when we're here, then they show up. If not, then it is what it is. >> What am I going to do? And what will be the >> I don't know. I don't know at this point cuz >> I can't go to jail. I I understand you. >> Can I help you guys? What's >> that's that's what we're trying to do, right? >> No, seriously. Seriously, I don't understand. >> No, I No one No one wants to go to jail and especially be so disappointed. >> I I I can understand that and I I'm not going to sit here and make you any promises or guarantees cuz that's not my place and that would be unethical of me. Okay. >> With each new detail, the officers grow more convinced that the second suspect played a role in the scam. And by the look on her face, she knows it's catching up to her. >> I was eating ice cream before this. >> So, >> he's taking me to jail. >> Huh? >> He's taking me to jail. >> What makes you think that? >> Cuz he keeps smiling. >> Who? Officer Kelly. >> Yes. >> He was smiling cuz he saw I cuz I was watching walk out of that little bowl and he laughed and he said I was eating ice cream before this. >> I was looking at him funny cuz I didn't know why he had a bowl with the pink. Am I going to jail? >> Probably. >> Just saw some messages from your Yummylicious LLC. >> Yes. >> Talking about these checks. >> Okay. Can we Can we tell >> Giving her instructions on how to cash them? >> Okay. Can we tell where the instructions came from? Did she tell you that? >> What do you mean? >> From her boyfriend, Gucci, that >> if you look up his name, Lamar or something, his house has got raided for ID printers and stuff. >> Right. So, so I understand what you're saying, but that's still you. Did she change the name >> of what? >> For the email? >> No, >> we verified it that those messages came from that email. >> Okay. >> Of you giving her specific instructions on how to pass these checks. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> So, she didn't mention her boyfriend at all. >> She said he has nothing to do with you. >> Can I prove it? I don't know. We're still working on it. >> He just he just called me and I just showed him that he just called her. >> Her boyfriend? >> Yes. He just called me on. She's been on the phone with him all. >> Do you have any messages for between y'all two that you would let us see? >> I don't have any I don't have any messages. >> Okay. Cuz she just showed us from the email you gave me the Yummylicious pictures or I'm sorry, instructions from you on how to catch these gems. >> Okay. Did she tell you that the check came from her grandma? >> She called me the check came from you. >> No, it didn't. Came from >> That's neither here nor there. >> She said she said it came from her her She told me it came from her grandma. Okay. Then she said that Gucci, her man, does all of this. We have ID printers that I'll get some money if I drive her. Then I'm telling her like, I got to go do stuff for myself because it's my birthday. I got you. >> It's time to address the evidence. The officers confront her about the video and the messages that link her directly to the scheme. was where she was asking you about it and you sent a bunch of pictures of money uh on your lap and a car that had been paid off, something about a lawyer being paid up. What about those messages? >> I did speak to her about that, but on verbally on >> No, there were some messages. I read it. I read them. I I read them myself. >> Okay. >> Pictures of money, pictures of cash, checks being cashed at the bank, stuff like that. You know anything about that? >> I mean, I have my own LLC. I make money. My man works for Rod Wave. That's how I get my money, but my car is not paid at all. >> So, what about those messages that were directly followed up with instructions on how to check cash these fraudulent checks? >> Was it was it from her boyfriend? That's what I'm asking. >> It came from your email, the Yummylicious LLC email. >> It couldn't have. >> I just looked at it. >> Or it was I'm sorry. It was a little baby@icloud.com. >> She refers to her boyfriend as a yama. A yama. >> Okay. >> He's a Yema. Do you have is Lil Baby at icicloud.com you? >> That's not my >> So why did the pictures have your leg tattoo in the background? >> That I don't know if I can see her phone. I can tell you but I don't know why. >> Somebody got a picture of you holding money. >> You can with your leg because I was talking to her through Instagram. Today she called my phone. >> Her boyfriend and her have been in the chat on Telegram and just now when I look on Telegram you can erase all the messages. He erased the messages. Then he prompted to call me and I just showed officer Johnson that he was calling my phone. >> Okay. What does that have to do with the pictures of all the money on top of your tattoo on your >> I don't know >> cuz you're I'm asking you things and you're just like all the way around. >> Okay. Because I know that this initiated from the boyfriend. >> Okay. Are you a part of it? I don't care who initiated it, but are you a part of it? Did you know that this was taking place? >> Did I know she was going? >> That's what I'm trying to figure out what's going on. Yeah. When we left the >> check, she said it wasn't a check. >> At this point, the officers make it clear that they're no longer buying her claims of innocence. >> Whatever you call >> she'd had that at the last bank. Yes. >> Okay. Prior to that, did you know? >> No. >> I do not believe you. >> I saw text messages and I do I think you are lying. >> I think you're lying. Okay. Straight up. What am I going to do? >> Most likely. >> What is it going to take for me not to speak to you? >> Tell us the truth. >> And I'm talking about the truth that we can prove. Not your truth that whatever the truth, >> but I'm still going to end up going to Dale. >> I don't know. It depends. I don't You're not giving me anything as far as your knowledge on this. I don't know what your knowledge on this is. That's what I'm trying to piece together. >> We both spoke to her boyfriend Gucci. >> Okay. >> Maybe two or three days ago. >> Okay. >> And he said, "Do I have a car?" >> Okay. >> And I was like, "Yeah." >> Okay. >> And he said that I can make some money. >> He said you can make some money or you both. >> He saw me. >> Okay. He said you can make some money. >> His name is Gucci. I just remembered his first name is Lamar. >> Okay. So, what when he said you can make some money, how did he say you're going to make this money? >> Um, they were on FaceTime. I was on FaceTime. I was making making dinner and he was like, "Am I going to be free yesterday?" And I was like, "No, I have to get my hair done." >> Okay. >> Then he asked me, "What about today?" So, she asked me, "Can I bring her around?" Cuz she didn't have a car. Right. >> And I'm like, "Yeah, I got you." All right. And then what else? >> That's it. >> It's not what the text messages say. You're still not telling me the truth. >> And I'm don't want to stand here in the rain and get lied to. So you can just go to jail. >> No, I don't. >> So tell me the truth. >> I'm tired of getting rained on. I know you're tired of getting rained on. Tell me the truth. >> I was supposed to make money with her boyfriend. >> With her boyfriend? Yeah. >> How? >> With the checks. >> No, he said to her driver. And then >> he said something about to go to her house and get something and what's her grandma's name and stuff like that. And we were all in a group chat. >> Okay. >> There's messages at >> her specifically. >> Right after that, the officers decide to take both women into custody, but not before the suspects try one last move to destroy the evidence. Is the profile picture her? >> No. >> Oh snap. Can you go back to it? >> It's Yeah. Oh, she must have deleted it. Does she have her phone? >> Well, that's not my body. But >> I don't know. >> Yep. She on her phone right now. >> If she deletes it, it goes off of your phone, too. >> The fair day back. She probably delete everything. Can't get rid of our messages. I know that for a foul. >> All right. This is ours. >> Yeah, that's ours. You're going to jail. >> You're deleting things. >> No, I'm not deleting anything. >> Joe. >> I just saw everything I need to see. >> But I didn't delete anything. I was sitting here googling the boy's name. >> I understand. We'll look at that and we're going to try to uh figure that out. But I saw everything I need to see on top. She deleted it. >> As we're reading the group chat, everything wipes off. >> Did you not see when he was calling me on Insta? >> The second suspect keeps trying to plead her case, but the officers have heard enough and they're done listening. >> I saw, but based on the information we've seen, I'm telling you, >> you all tell us the truth. So, I don't I have no sympathy for anxiety for any time frame. Did you give somebody to pick up your kid? >> Okay. >> I saw everything I need to see on Telegram. >> So that's it. >> And then it miraculously disappeared. And you have your phone in your hand. >> I was googling. I just asked him if I could Google. I I'm honest to you. He He can do that. >> We're all the boy Gucci. We're all in a group chat. >> Okay. Well, however, they disappeared. We saw what we needed to see. that's been captured on our body cameras of you sending these messages, getting her personal information to put on these chicks that you knew were fraudulent. She knew they were fraudulent. You're both going to jail. That's it. That's plain and simple. >> Okay. What is the charge? >> Uh, uttering a forge document. >> And is there a bond for that? >> 2500. 4500. So, 250 will get you out. >> What's your criminal history like? Let me ask you that. >> I'm on probation. >> Oh, nope. No bond. You're going You're done then. Sorry. Can I Can I speak to you or can I can I help Can you help? >> I gave you that chance and you lied. >> Is there anything that because I cannot go to jail, my daughter's going to be so disappointed. >> I'm disappointed. Societyy's disappointed. You committed a felony and you lied about me and I gave you every opportunity to tell me the truth and you still lie. >> I gave you a chance to be the person. Is there any way that you can find the boyfriend's information? We'll >> work on that. That's part of the investigation. His guilt doesn't mean you're innocent, >> right? Just cuz he's guilty doesn't mean you're not you're innocent. >> Huh? >> I'm going to just take off her jewelry and stuff and just throw it in the bag. >> I'm not the brain of the operation. It was everybody that put it together. So, >> okay. I'm not innocent. >> Okay. So, you knew more than you said you did. >> Did I get the right phone? >> That's her second phone. >> Yeah, she has two phone. >> Oh, good. >> Fantastic. >> Bye-bye, both of them. Now outside the bank, the second suspect scrambles to talk her way out of trouble, throwing out every excuse she can think of. >> Valuable information that is bigger than me standing right here in cups in that one little flimsy thing. I'm telling you, please. >> All right. You got anything they might need? >> Oh, okay. >> You could tell me >> who John F. Kennedy >> and I can't release you. You're on probation. Listen, can I >> You're on probation. >> I'm sorry. You are on probation. >> You can't just be police contact and I can help you like maybe a million dollar operation. >> Well, while I would appreciate that, my policies about people on probation are what they are. Okay. >> Please don't tow my car because that's the only way my daughter could get back and forth to work. >> Okay. >> All right. Y'all two going to be cordial cuz y'all going in the same car. >> She's blaming me. >> All right. Well, I'll have Gilbert transport her and >> then I'll just tell Sergeant Cody they ain't going to need the PT van. If if he say no, then they got to go together. >> Yeah, that's as long as there's no >> Yeah. As long as they're not fighting in the back. That's why I asked. >> All right. Um go ahead and take her to your car then. Just hang by with her. Um, Gilbert, go ahead and uh put her in your car and just transport her back to the PD and Kelly will take care of the rest. >> And then she got you property. >> I'm sorry. >> You got property? >> My car? >> Well, the car is going to stay here. >> No, the car's getting towed. >> Oh, you're going to tow? Oh, I was going to tell you. >> Oh, no. That's my husband's wallet. Please, please, please, please, please. That's my husband's wallet. Please. >> Well, we're going to get a search warrant anyways. and he has work. Please. >> All right. Come on. >> So, you're not out here seeing this? >> All right. You good? >> Yeah. >> All right. I'll roll down the window when we get I know it's raining. >> No problem. >> So, listen. >> The case wrapped up with the second suspect facing organized fraud charges. As for the first suspect, she was hit with two charges, including organized fraud and uttering a fraudulent check. Number one, a $46,000 gamble that ends with cups. On February 12th, 2024, officers responded to a suspected fraud at a local credit union. According to staff, a woman was trying to withdraw $10,000 from an account that was frozen earlier that day due to fraudulent activity. Adding to the suspicion, an elderly man also reported $46,000 missing from his account that same morning. Here's how officers handled the case. >> Boy, I'm going to be on the inside. >> Welcome in. >> Hey, how you doing? Welcome back. >> So, see one of her getting sort of nervous, >> but I thought it was somebody in a pink bonnet. >> Your branch manager called >> the branch manager. >> Yes. >> Okay. I see nobody. >> Apparently, they in the branch the branch manager's office. They're trying to put longer. >> Oh. Yeah. >> Hold on. Can I hang up my phone? 28 West 87. >> Right now, you're just being detained pending investigation. Um, you're not currently under arrest, but you are being detained. Okay. >> You have identification on you? >> Yes, it's on my neck. Which one of y'all want to talk to me? >> It wasn't me. Okay. It was probably some back office. >> Okay. >> Sorry. >> Okay. Uh, >> did you need my card or anything anyway or I'm the manager? >> Let me speak to you. >> Oh, sure. Sure. >> Now, the officers speak with the bank manager to confirm what exactly raised the alarm. So, we got a call from another trans. >> Yeah, because I was trying to hold on to her. >> Is she a scam now? >> Who she finds are being transferred to other accounts, you know, coming in to withdraw, but it appears that they are the two ones like her, but they're transferring through internet banking and then they're going to the branches and withdrawing. This morning we had her account $10,000 was withdrawn from car and she's saying it wasn't her and now she's here to withdraw 10,000. There was another young lady that um was with her and left this morning saying she had to pick up her child. Um but she also withdrew a month too and they were they have been there's records. >> Okay. But as far as her her right now, >> what is it that she's done right now? >> She she's trying to withdraw the 10,000, >> but she hasn't withdrawn anything. >> Our risk and compliance department block it. >> Okay. >> Because they saw the scheme. >> So she's just here to withdraw. >> Money was deposited into her account this morning and she came here to withdraw it. >> Yes. >> Okay. From another account internally. >> Okay. Sir, he said I was detained. So, >> you're not free to leave? >> Yeah. I'm not trying to go nowhere, but I need to call my mama cuz this >> We're not calling anybody up here. >> We can't call her so y'all can tell her that I'm probably going to go to jail cuz >> I don't I ma'am, I don't even know the story yet. Hadn't asked you anything. I hadn't talked to anybody. I've been standing here with you. >> No, I'm saying what I'm saying is y'all brother. So, I really don't feel comfortable around y'all at all. So, I rather call my mama so we can have this discussion cuz I I'm really like >> How old are you? >> I'm I'm grown. >> Okay. >> Instead of cooperating, the suspect pushes back, but it only reinforces the officer's doubts. >> But I still don't feel comfortable around the police. >> That's your right. And I I can't take that away from him. >> Right. So, that means >> But I'm But me as an individual, >> honestly, >> I'm going to treat you with the utmost respect. Okay. Cuz >> that's how I Well, I black mana right now is very freaking out. Sir, >> ma'am, I don't know your brother. I don't know the situation, but I can give you the utmost respect if you allow me to. >> You're not giving me respect cuz how are you trying to belittle me right now? That's belittling me. >> How am I belittling? >> Because I told you that my brother officer >> and I'm telling you I'm going to give you the utmost respect. >> But I'm also telling you that it's belittling me as well. >> How? >> I just told you. Well, again, I'm going to try and give you the utmost respect. >> What's your name? Robert. >> Sergeant Roberts. >> I'm going to try and give you the utmost respect. >> I can't I can only be as straightforward as I can that and and you you let me know that you're uncomfortable. >> I am uncomfortable. >> But I'm going to give you standing over me. >> I'm going to give you the utmost respect. >> And I told you that and y'all still standing over me. So I I'm telling you that I'm I'm very uncomfortable with the office. >> What would make you feel comfortable, ma'am? >> Not standing over me. >> Well, ma'am, it's a small office. I'm just standing in the door. >> You're standing over me. You can go stand over him. >> No, that's not how it works, ma'am. You don't get to dictate that. >> It really is. It's It's called freedom of speech. I know my rights. >> Well, you got the right to say what you want, but you don't get to dictate how things are handled. >> I understand what you're saying. >> Freedom of speech gives you the right to say whatever you want. However, it does not give you to dictate how we conduct our criminal investigation. >> I'm very very My anxiety shoot like EMS. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> And I also would like my mother as well. I don't care who calls her. You can call her. He can call the MMS to call her. But it's not I don't feel comfortable at all. >> 267. With more evidence surfacing, the officers press forward with questions, but she deflects, insisting she's too scared to talk. So, one officer takes a softer tone and reads her Miranda rightites, hoping she'll open up. >> So, she was the one that was revenge. Do we have the video and everything for that? >> We'll need the video. Yeah. No, but she But she's saying it wasn't her. She's here now, >> but she's saying it wasn't her that it that went to >> Colos. Let me talk to her. >> You see, so there was another >> Yes. So they came to the >> Can you face me, >> sir? I'm very I'm I'm sorry. I'm very uncomfortable. It's three officers standing over me and and and >> she's saying she's got anxiety. >> My brother, that's I told you that. And you're smiling about it, but it's not funny, sir. It's not It's not fair. It's funny. It's funny to him. It's funny to him. I'm looking at him laugh. Every time I look at him, he smile. >> It It appears that you're trying to find something to >> I'm not trying to find Engage me on. You're not going to get it. >> Told you exactly what it was. >> And I told you. >> So, with that being said, >> hey, hey, Miss Quinttera, I'm not quite sure what's going on, but um I'm Officer Balling, and I would like to talk to you in reference to why I'm here. Okay. But before I do that, I have to read you and afford you your rights. Okay? >> If I'm not detained, why I'm under right? >> No, you are detained. That's the point. You're detained. That's why I'm reading you your rights. I told you you're detained. You're not under arrest, but you are detained. Okay. >> Okay. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. Having these rights in mind, do you wish to talk to me? >> No, I don't. No. What What is it that you want to talk about though first? >> PD644 type law. >> You've been looking so she could have >> Yeah. I didn't know who what am I sending it to. Is it an email address? Is the phone number? >> Is that an email address address? She's in arresting complaint. >> After giving her multiple chances to speak up, the officers are starting to reach their limit. >> So, excuse me. Excuse me. Yes, ma'am. Why did he take my phone? >> Cuz you're detained and I don't want you making any phone calls. >> You're going to have to take my phone. >> I ain't going. >> Your hands are in the front of you and I don't need you making any phone calls. >> But my that's my personal property. I understand that has been >> so because in law it says that I have to accept you to search me or anything like that. >> It's not being searched. >> Ask nobody to I didn't ask nobody. >> It's not being searched ma'am. >> It's my phone though. >> It's not being searched. >> That's just like your phone getting taken from you. >> Okay. Well, I'm not under a criminal investigation right now. >> And I also have told this lady I didn't get no ATM withdrawals at all. So how is that? I'm on investigation. >> Okay. >> And and I'm >> Well, ma'am, hold up. You said you didn't want to talk after he read your Miranda, so I can't ask you any questions. >> All right. >> Okay. >> You can close it over there. >> I'm not EMS is here to get you to get checked out. >> How are you? >> I'm all right. She says she's having an anxiety attack because >> standing over me. >> Okay. Okay. >> Well, we'll check your vitals. Okay. >> Your blood pressure is a little elevated, but that's to be expected. You're under, you know, emotional arrest. >> I'm not mad about that. What I'm mad about is the fact that the police who young black innocent men is standing over me. That's the only thing that's I'm mad about. I ain't mad about nothing else. >> Well, I don't think this is racially. >> It ain't racist cuz he black. How that's racist. >> That's what I'm saying. I don't think that that has anything to do with it. Okay. I I understand you're upset. >> I'm upset because this man is standing over me. That's the only reason why I'm mad. I'm not mad about nothing else. If I completely going to take me to jail, but if I ain't then I mean I'm going to have a bond regardless cuz I ain't I ain't been in trouble in a long time. So with that being >> I don't really know why this man is standing behind >> because he has to keep. It's a whole glass door right there. He can stand out there and watch me. He have to stand behind me. With no other way to deflect, she now accuses the officers and EMS of discrimination, turning their concern for her safety into another point of contention. >> It ain't nothing else I want to talk about cuz I'm sitting y'all trying to make it seem like because I'm black and I'm I'm under arrest, y'all ain't going to listen to nothing. I'm saying basically that's what you're saying. >> We get out of here. >> All right. >> All right. It don't matter cuz I got lots of kind anyways. It don't even matter. >> I'm going find out everybody name. >> Do you have a print out where you can uh give me all the account information where the transfers are made? What account? You know, >> I don't really know why y'all got to be standing over me like this. people feel threatened with people standing over. Excuse me. Thank you for >> Yes, ma'am. >> So, >> elderly. It's coming from elderly members account. All these funds were cross reference and transfers going to their accounts. Okay. >> I'm not alone. >> Sorry. >> Oh, you're fine now. >> 330795. I'm not sure who me. >> Ma'am, >> I wrote Baldwin's name uh last name ID on the back as well as Robinson and my information is on the front. >> Okay. >> Okay. I know >> it's confusing, right? >> She keeps resisting. But the moment a video surfaces showing her withdrawing money from the flagged account, the case becomes undeniable. >> I'm getting all these phone calls. Yeah. Let me see what Maria wanted cuz she was calling me. >> Um Oh, okay. >> You know, I hate to let this girl miss something. Um, >> okay. Yeah. Now that's her. >> That's her. >> And we just got video of the girl >> that we have detained. >> That's Colon. >> From Col >> because I didn't gave him $5,000. >> You gave someone $5,000 cash. >> Yes. My money cuz I'm trying to I'm trying to run a business and I needed somebody to double it. Like if you if I don't know if you like on Facebook or anything like that, but people like they like if you send 25,000 we gonna send I mean you send $25, we going to send you 25,000. Now that's just I don't know if that's fraud and I really never even tried that. >> Do you know anybody that if you gave them $50 they Oh, here's 100 bucks cuz you gave me 50 bucks. >> I don't know. >> No, I'm asking you. >> People do it. People do it every day, sir. I don't know. Like who does it? A lot of people here, everywhere, like all over the world. I ain't even gonna lie. >> You've been all over the world? >> I ain't been all over the world, but I met a couple people. >> How long has he had an account with these? >> These are all new accounts since the 1st of February. >> The three All of them. >> Yeah. The three of them new accounts. Mhm. >> Okay. >> Out of Apple Yard. That's when they opened it. >> Her account's new as well. >> Yeah. February 1st. All of them >> open the same day. >> Yes. Let me make sure. Hers I know for sure cuz I told her Kevin is >> two no 1:31 which is the day before. >> Okay. >> So he started the ring. Huh? He was he was he's the leader. >> Hey man, what's going on? >> Brought you out in the ring. Did >> this money transfers in his account and he distributes it to her or her. >> Mhm. >> Yeah. The detective doesn't waste time. With new proof on the table, he reads her rights again and checks whether she's finally ready to talk. >> I interrupt him. Is this Did I just prove something? I I just I was just getting back. They said that you invoked your rights, >> so you didn't want to talk to us. >> I didn't want to talk to him. >> No. >> Okay. >> So, you are wanting to talk to me? >> Yes or no? Cuz I I'll read you your rights again, and if you want to talk to me, that's fine. Okay. Um, but I I'll just go ahead and do that. Okay. And then you can go ahead if you want to talk to me. >> All right. Um, I'm just going to read them again. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can will be used against your >> That could have been my daddy. >> I know exactly what you're talking. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. These are all Kevin's account. >> It falls under that statute. >> Having these rights in mind. You want to talk to me? You don't have to. It's It's up to you. >> It's criminal name, but >> I just need a yes or no answer, >> I guess. Yeah. >> Okay. Um, so what do you want to tell me? >> Ain't nothing I want to tell you cuz I didn't do nothing. So, you're you're in handcuffs kind of thing because >> she said >> you withdrawing a large amount of funds, >> right? Yours. >> I understand. But so you're but so it sounds like what you were telling me was you met some guy >> right >> and he offered that if you gave him cash that he would give you more money and you think he's the one that put money in your account. That's the sort of thing that >> like he he's trying to figure out what happened. >> Who who's this guy? >> See I don't know his name. I know Jeff. >> You going to know him as Jeff? >> She said Kevin. I don't know Kevin. I know I know him by Jeff. >> How did you guys meet? Okay. So, one day I was standing um at the You know what? Well, you you you hel right there. I was standing at the center, right? H >> I was standing at the center. >> Okay. You know what that is? >> I do. >> I think this was the first. >> As they dig deeper, investigators uncover a disturbing pattern. The money's coming from elderly victims. One of them is an 84year-old who already reported suspicious activity in his account. What's more, the accounts involved were all recently opened and appear linked. >> It gets everything. >> You said the first of what? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> So, he came and and he was talking to us. It was like a couple of us. He was in a group and he was like, "Um, y'all trying to flip y'all money?" And I was like I was like, "Yeah." because I had like something going on at the time. I was trying to get a business off the ground. So I was like, "Yeah." So he was like, "Um, well, all you got to do is go go put a car in the vision." So I did that. I paid for the car and everything. The $30. >> He said, "You got to do what? >> You got to go get a vision card." >> Like an account. You got to open a vision account. >> He was like he was going to send me the money whenever he get the money. This is what happened at >> Just Just to pause you. Where where did he say? Did he say where this money was coming from? >> No, he didn't. >> Okay. He never told me anything. >> He was saying he was saying that he was going to send you money for what reason? To flip it. What does that mean? >> Yes, cuz I gave him $5,000. This is cash that I gave him $5,000 and it's like I got his thing. >> When did you give him $5,000? >> Probably about three weeks ago. >> What was that for? >> For a business that I'm trying to do. I'm doing hair. >> Okay. And you gave it to this random guy that you don't know? >> Yes. >> Does that make a lot of sense to you? >> It doesn't make any sense. But I'm tell I'm going tell you though. I want I want to still tell you cuz I felt like okay the day I got the card I went to the walk house with the card right ever since after that I never seen the card no more he has the card so whoever he has with him they the one that's getting the money out the ATM and stuff it's not me when we go when y'all go into this investigation you're going to see >> I guess the cameras or whatever that's not me that ain't me >> it's not you what about today what's going on >> today I'm here I'm here today they said that he do with what? >> They said that um it was something blocking or something like that. So, I came and talked to the lady and she was like, "Well, we we can't give you that amount today." Right? >> And and that's how that's why I'm here with y'all. >> Now, the woman insists that she's actually a victim. According to her, the money she's withdrawing came from a man who promised to double her cash. Moreover, she quickly claims ignorance about how the funds ended up in her account. Unfortunately, at this point, the officers are done hearing her out. >> Hey, so you are going to be charged today and you're going to be taken to jail. So, you are arrested. >> So, what's the charges? >> You're getting bank fraud, organized scheme to defraud, and then grand theft. Okay. So, obviously, you know, that's what's going to have to happen. Um, if I got any questions, I got your information. Um, I'll give you my card if you want to tell me anything else that maybe you didn't want to tell me today. >> Is there anything inside here I need to be aware of? What kind of >> Okay. >> Change the detain time. >> Sir, is this felony charges? >> They are. >> Mhm. >> Yeah. Bank fraud, the second degree organized scheme is probably going to be a second degree as well because of the amount that was taken in the process. And then grand theft, the grand theft one might be as well. it. >> I mean, fraud's very serious. >> I understand what you're saying. >> You're messing with people's bank accounts and transferring money. >> Nothing like that with nobody's stuff. I do for me. Like, I don't know about nobody else. >> That's just That's just $5,000 right there. You can count. >> And where's your from now? >> It's from a bank. >> It's from a bank. From your account, >> right? You withdrew it. There's actually free gift. >> So that's going to be time as well as he was trying to play me by my money. >> Well, yeah. You agreed to participate in the scheme. >> I never knew it was a scheme, sir. I'm not going to lie. And you got that. I only went to one and that was just more. That was it. I never went nowhere else. So if it's something that he did outside of me, all that ATM and all these money, that's all that money that's missing. I never got that. That's the only thing I got regular. >> It's a lastditch effort, but the officers have heard enough to know it's not the truth. >> Disagree. >> Cuz if you didn't know that you >> I never knew you would call somebody right now. And I'm telling you, >> you normally opened up a bank account. >> You gave you gave him gave him a card and then days later, you know, there's large amounts of funds in there. >> Just tell you, I never I never knew that. I never do that. I swear to God, every I never knew that. What I know is he was supposed to give me back my money. He never gave me back my money. So, I called him and then that's when the fraud hotline called me and said that it was missing like $40,000. Ain't no way in you missing $40,000 if I never took it out. I never took it out. It wasn't me. >> Well, the video said otherwise. >> That's why you're here today. >> But that that's that's separate money, sir. I knew >> how how can y'all How can y'all take my money from? >> We're taking this one cuz it's not your money. The Envision one, an Envision envelope. >> That's my money cuz I gave it to him and I got my money back from him. You're right. >> It's withdrawn from an account that's fraudulent. >> That I did not know that. I mean, so what is y'all going to do with the other half? >> All this stuff will get impounded except for the toiletries. All that stuff is getting thrown away. >> But but I'm Okay, listen. The little $80 right there >> that's going to that's getting impounded too. >> So y'all going to take the money and put it inside the jail? >> No. >> No. >> It's getting impounded at all this stuff is going to tell police department with me. >> It's going to be impounded into evidence. >> So once evidence take over, y'all have somebody that comes and get y comes and get it from the sheriff's office. >> We're not the sheriff's office. We're TPD. >> We're up here. >> Yeah. We're TPD. Totally different. >> That's crazy. That's really really crazy. >> Totally different. You you realize like the situation is that the majority of what you got in your pocket moneywise is ill gotten funds from someone else which is why you're you're in the car. >> She's run out of explanations. And with everything pointing to her involvement, the officers take her into custody. >> You got to grab me though. >> We have to hold on to >> Yeah. I don't I don't even hold on to me. >> I got you. But by our policy, you're under arrest, so I'm required to hold on to you. >> I just got one question. >> I'm listening. >> Cuz I've been so rocking with you. All right. Can I grab a cigarette? >> No, ma'am. >> No, I've been here long enough. Cigarettes. >> I got one in the bag. Yeah. >> Aren't you ready to get those handcuffs? >> No. I want to see this cigarette before I have to go get them. One second. Yeah. >> Sick. >> Why? >> I'm nauseous. I'm hungry. I'm too much right now. >> I know you're not I know you're not the main person. Okay. >> Yeah. I'm not the main person. I'm not a person. >> You're a participant. That's not >> You saying a person a participant when they don't know like >> I know. But just based on what we have, it's kind of hard to argue that you didn't know. That's that's why you're going. >> Okay. Um I'm just going to buckle this up for you if you want to lean up a bit. >> You have my car. Like I said, um you'll probably get a bond. So if you want to talk to >> I really want a cigarette though. Please, sir. Please ask him. Please. I really need it. Sir, please. Please. I'm gonna do right and I'm not gonna argue with you down no more. I'm >> In the end, she's charged with grand theft, bank fraud, and engaging in an organized scheme did a fraud. What's your verdict? Let me know in the comments, and I'll see you in the next video. As always, stay safe out there, folks.
