On March 28th, 2025, officers responded to a distress call after reports that a heated argument inside a moving vehicle led to a crash. Here's what officers encountered at the scene. Bivouac 8 Mile North off of 34. We have a maroon colored passenger car. 20, come back to my location. This is going to be the vehicle we're looking for. What's up, man? Are you all right? Yeah, we're doing okay. We just left the funeral. Okay. Are you all right? Yeah, we're doing okay. I know, it's bad. Who's all in there? Me and my girlfriend. >> Is she Is she hurt? No, she's not hurt. I held on to her when we lost control. Okay. >> We came out I seen your pocket there's your pocket right there anything? Okay. Okay, you're good. Josephine Josephine >> Okay. So, what I mean, what happened? You guys are flying. So, we were arguing. We were going back and forth. She just left the funeral, so she's just dealing with the emotions and everything right now. >> Okay. And I saw the turn coming up and I tried to hit on the brake and that's when we slid because I saw that that turn was coming up. We were coming right at you. And I tried to brake coming across. 20, this is going to be that vehicle. I tried to brake coming across and because of how fast we were going, I lost control, so I just tried to kind of hold it and it brought us off the side of the road. I got them both. Let's come back here. While the driver admits the argument played a role in the crash, the real challenge begins when officers try to get the passenger's identification. Okay. So, I need you guys' IDs. You got an ID on you? Uh I have a picture of mine, but I don't have the physical copy. >> ain't hurt or anything, are you? >> No, none of us are hurt. None of us are injured. Negative. When I hit the brake, I tried to hold that lane coming around and I lost control of it. >> I seen you. I watched the whole thing. >> Yeah, I tried to hold it coming through and it just shot us out sideways. Okay. Where are you from? Uh I'm originally from Carbondale. I work over at Ashley Furniture in Carbondale. >> Oh, in Carbondale? Cool. Okay. And I'm sorry about that. Okay. I just did my job, okay? Yes, I want you to do your job. I appreciate you. I'm telling you we're fine. >> Okay. Do you need a copy of or do you need a picture of my license? >> I'll just got to run it and as long as we're good, okay? I mean, if you had a picture, that'd be cool. >> Yeah, I have a picture of it in my phone. That's >> That'd be awesome. Sir, I think so. Not yet. I'm sorry. Cool. Man, what's your name? What's your name? Look, you can either cooperate or you can go to jail. I don't care. I I really don't. I don't need a lawyer. You have to identify you've been involved in a traffic crash. It's really, really simple. Like, this is one of the easiest things in Yeah. Can you not do this right now? Yeah. We're not We are not here to get you guys in trouble. We're not here to do anything, but I have to identify who is in this vehicle. The passenger's unexpected response changes the atmosphere immediately, and she doesn't hesitate to make things more complicated. So, honestly, I'll be I'll be completely up front, okay? So, we actually responding out here, okay? For a male and a female involved in a verbal altercation is what they are saying. Okay. They actually said you got out of the vehicle and was walking with a bag. >> away into the middle of the side. >> you guys already been called in. So, that's why we're here. >> What? Yes. Okay, what is very false. Oh, it's not false. You just admitted to it. >> It's not false. I got out of the car. >> false. Me walking across the field, there's nothing false about that. >> Yeah, yeah. >> Because if somebody saw me walking across the field MAN, SHUT UP. SHUT UP. NO, THAT'S NOT HOW THIS GOES. It's not how this goes at all. Man, the easier you make You make this really easy on yourself. >> Yeah, I understand they were going off of 18. Your name. You're not making it easier. You're making it harder. I'm my lawyer. Her name is Paula Newcomb. Okay. I am telling you, give me your name Paula Newcomb. >> or you're going to jail for not identifying yourself. I don't care. >> you her first name? Paula Newcomb. Do what? >> Can I give you her first name? Or you can give me your ID. No. >> Well, I can get either one of those. We need full name. >> That's mine. >> Peter Paul I Nobody. What you're going to need is to call If you don't give your information, you're going to go to jail and we're going to get it. I don't care. Take me to jail. Here. Go ahead. Don't give Do you insane? >> Hold on a second. I just left a funeral. And you're involved in a traffic crash. >> Yep. Great. Take me to jail. Don't give me Simple. Okay, then you know you have to identify you're involved. Or I can tell you I'm don't give You're going to take me to jail. Here you go. The passenger acts unbothered and even insists that she knows her rights, but unfortunately for her, the officers make sure that she's not going to get her way this time around. You going to give me your name or not? I'm going to give you no option. No. All right. Can you please call me a lawyer? I ain't calling nobody. Well, that's my right and neither are you. >> You You can call. >> Read my Miranda rights. >> We don't read We don't read them. If you're in law, you would know that. Come on. Move. One female 95. Step up and get in the car. How am I supposed to step up? >> Figure it out. Use your legs. Literally What are you doing? What are you doing right now? Can you help me, sir? Come on. I don't want to hurt you. Here. You ready? You jump. Go. Yeah. You're under arrest. She insists she knows her rights and acts completely unbothered, but officers make it clear this isn't going to end the way she expects. Sorry, man. Can't help you on that one. Okay. He's going to help you with this. I'm taking her cuz she gets more and more. We'll call you. Come to the jail and we'll talk. Fair enough? Yeah, but Let him just get this out. >> That's I mean, that's fair. The car is not damaged or anything. >> Okay. We're going to get a tow to get you out of here cuz you're stuck. Yeah, I just don't But I have to get her to jail. I don't know. She's been drinking. I could Right here somewhere. Right where? Cuz I didn't even see that place. Right here. Hold it. How did it happen yesterday about 3:00 a.m.? This morning. This morning basically yes. Yeah, no. I was definitely in Staten Island with my friend on Staten Island. On with your friend. What's your friend name? Maria. Maria. Okay, so uh So you don't know anything about the incident that might happen out there. No. So you were saying that you were not there. No, not last night. I was definitely out on Duval for like I actually I was actually talking to um I don't know his name, but one of you guys and um cuz I know him. I seen him last night so he could tell you I was there last night and also I was on 9th Avenue last night. Nowhere near anything that you're talking about right now. She denies every accusation outright unaware that officers already have the evidence to challenge her claims. Well, I definitely was so that's what I was saying. >> Okay, I mean it was definitely a lot of talking too, but when they ask you to pull up there was something that you said. Um what I can tell you guys is that um one of my friends was telling like I was basically the messenger Mhm. in all of this, but I didn't know exactly what went down. Who's this friend? >> Like I don't have like information on that. Who's this friend? What is >> Who's the friend you're talking about? Who are you you're the messenger for? Uh um one of my homeboys. She's offered a last chance to tell the truth and instead she doubles down in a way no one expected. Like he already said we seen the messages. We got the video. We got everything. So all all the lying right now all it's doing is hurting yourself and discrediting your character. Well, I'm telling you that I was the messenger and um I know that somebody did >> for who? One of the one of your homeboys that also is a girl like what are the names? Okay, so like I said I was the messenger and I I I have a feeling that somebody >> I've read the messages on the car too. Somebody did go to their house obviously cuz it wasn't me and you're telling me that I'm on it. >> you said I already did. Yeah, because I was joking. I wanted them to think it was me, but it's not me so I was just the messenger. Okay. I mean like that's petty like that wasn't All right, it's pretty expensive petty. Yeah, ask me. All right, well I mean that's fine. Okay. Who's that Is that Is Maria the the ex you're talking about? No. Okay. That's my friend. That has That has nothing to do with you. All right, I didn't say she did, but she's involved a little bit too. Yeah, I know. Okay. Because we were basically like both helping somebody out, but and I honestly don't know what girl, but I can't like I don't even know the name of the guy. With multiple chances behind her, she still won't admit it and that decision brings the conversation to an end. What guy now? Huh? You don't know You don't know the name of what what guy? The guy we're like basically helping out. But it's his friend. It's a girl. But I don't know. I don't know exactly. You guys are asking me questions I don't know. So So you're helping somebody you don't know. No, I don't I do know. And you're sending messages and getting into arguments for somebody you don't know. Um No, I know them, but not the girl is what I'm saying. Yes, I know the guy. He's like one of my homeboys as you said. What's his name? His name is Lance. Lance? Yeah. Lance who? Huh? You know You know Lance's last name? Nah, I known him from school cuz we had classes and stuff together. He So he's your by your age. 20 I would say. >> All right. He's tall, right? 5'8" Yeah, but I think he's taller than that one actually. But I guess he's tall, but not really like 5'8". He's tall 5'9". Something like that. Is there uh Is anybody else home right now? My brother's downstairs. Stand up and turn around to the back. I'm getting arrested. That's what you are in this one. For what? >> Stand up. Don't worry.
