Sir, what did I do? Sir, what did I do? I didn't do anything, sir. >> What did I do? Quit >> resisting. Failed. That failed. They picked that up. >> These folks thought they could keep walking into stores and leaving without consequences. But not this time. These cases show some of the most wanted shoplifterss getting caught red-handed. [music] Shoplifter steals again. Then officers find something worse in her bag. [music] On April 10th, 2024, officers responded to a shoplifting call at a local Target. Upon arrival, they ordered both suspects to stop before leaving the store, but the suspects refused to comply. Here's what happened next. Hey, you're not free to leave. You're under arrest. >> Both of you. You're being detained. What did I do? >> Sir, what did I do? He's on your back. >> Sir, what did I do? >> I didn't do anything, sir. What did I do? >> Quit resisting. >> You're under arrest. Police. You're under arrest. >> You're resisting. You're back. >> Resisting. >> I'm sorry. >> So, I advised you were under arrest. >> I advised that was the police. Okay. >> So, you're also under arrest for resisting arrest. >> Don't twist around on us. We do exactly what we tell you to do. You are under arrest. Body cameras are audio and video recording. We understand. >> Okay. >> I'm sorry. Please don't snatch me. >> Oh, you are under arrest. >> Okay. >> We're going to talk about that in a second. >> We need to figure out your attitude. >> Please, sir. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. Please, sir. I'm so sorry. Please. At this point in time, you have the right to remain silent. We're going to keep walking. >> Okay. >> You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say a cannon will be used against you. >> Despite officers witnessing them leaving with full carts of unpaid merchandise, both suspects insist they did nothing wrong. >> I really haven't done anything, sir. I swear to God, I haven't. >> So, I'm just going to advise you of your rights right now. Okay. >> Um, so like I said, right now, you're just being detained for reasonable suspicion of theft. We have probable cause for her to arrest her right now. We were just in reasonable suspicion for you. >> I don't even know. I don't I mean I don't know cuz I literally was on the phone with my grandma. Everything is recorded meticulously within the entire city of Lynwood. It's not just inside the stores. It's everywhere. We have cameras everywhere watching everything. >> So your entire your entire moves were being watched recorded and >> bookmark. I mean you can check the cameras. I haven't done anything. I have not I'm telling you I haven't even picked up anything. He's checking with his coworker right now. >> If his coworker says that you were concealing stuff in the bag that's in there that has all the stolen merchandise in it when you guys were >> That's not my bag though, sir. That's >> I understand that. But if you were concealing stuff into the bag. >> No, sir. I haven't consumed anything. >> That's why That's why I have him checking. >> I appreciate you being cool with me, but that's just why I have him checking. >> But that wasn't my bag, sir. >> If you were sticking stuff in it. >> No, sir. I haven't That's why I'm having him. >> Please. It's just a misunderstanding. I promise it. have him checking. Okay, >> sir. I haven't took anything. >> And if he says no, I'll let you out of cuff. >> I swear to God, I have >> He's probably going to want to fill out just some trespass paperwork. >> Okay. >> I swear I haven't done it. >> Do you have warrants or anything like that? No. He says that he saw video footage of self concealment in a whole red bag. >> Yep. >> And that's not my bag though, sir. >> But if you were >> This is the only thing that's my bag. Literally, I swear to God. >> Go check your footage because I I saw her do it. Go check to see if she was involved. >> I wasn't involved, sir. I swear on everything. I don't even get in trouble. I don't I haven't done like this is not even my basket. I That's none of my stuff at all. According to store staff, the woman in [music] white concealed items in her bag before attempting to leave. Officers now question her to see if she'll come clean. >> We're going to walk this way. Just stay stay with me here. >> Please know I'm not lying to you. >> N I I just have to do my due diligence and check just to make sure. >> I have a job. I work at McDonald's. I I don't get in trouble. I don't. >> Okay. >> Please. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Please. >> What do you think you're doing trying to turn around on cops? >> I wasn't trying to. >> When we grab on to you and tell you you're under arrest, you don't start twisting around on us. Okay. >> I'm sorry. >> Compliance is the only the only reaction to that. Anything else is resisting arrest. Do you understand me? >> For sure. >> Okay. Now, the reason we're here, we already know what happened. We had someone watching the video. So, what items did you take and where are they? >> They're in the bags in the bottom of the cart. What are the items? Do you remember? >> Just the um clothes that's in the bag for my daughter. >> Do you have anything else from the store on your person? >> No. >> Okay. Is this your ID >> right there? >> No, that's not mine. >> Okay. >> The Jessica right here on the side. >> Whose ID is that? >> That's my cousins. >> The one right there. >> No, no, that's >> I'm sorry. Sorry. >> So, you said it's your ID is in here. >> Yes, it's on the side right there. >> Might be PSP. Man, this is so Thank you. >> My daughter's birthday. I just wanted to give her some stuff. That's it, man. She's sick. >> Now that the first suspect has [music] admitted to the theft, officers focus on questioning the second suspect inside the store's office. I'm >> just going to figure it out if he has video of you concealing. >> Okay. >> I'm You were But that basket's not mine, though. You do know that, right? >> I the basket she was pushing out. That wasn't that's not my >> I know. But but what I'm saying is if you were sticking stuff inside the bag that was concealing stuff. >> The only thing I did was put stuff in the basket. But that's the difference, right? >> Yeah. If you weren't sticking stuff inside the bag that was used to conceal with that, >> don't worry about it. But if you were sticking stuff inside the bag, >> with all the concealed merchandise, then we're good. >> Um if you were sticking stuff inside there, I'm still not going to take you to jail today. Okay. >> Okay. I promise you. Nothing. You've been nothing but cool with me. >> Yeah. I don't get in trouble, sir. I literally I work at I just got a promotion at my job at McDonald's. I I live in both and I work at the McDonald's right there in Neil Creek. And like you can ask like all the people at my job, they'll tell you like I'm a very good worker. Like I don't I go literally go to work, come home and babysit sometimes my little niece and I don't bother nobody, sir. I don't. >> Okay. Go ahead. Take a seat for me while we figure this all out. I appreciate you being cool. >> Yeah, it's no problem. I haven't touched >> and you you've been cool. And if it turns out that you were just sticking stuff inside the basket, then that's different. >> Clearly, they probably you see me stick inside the basket with food stuff like I promised her. I haven't done like anything in this store. I don't do stuff like that. I don't >> I didn't even know like she was even doing anything like she she took stuff or she what did I mean like I'm totally missed that I guess cuz I was looking at toys and I was looking on my phone. >> Since the second suspect has been cooperative, [music] the officer offers her an arrangement that could work in her favor. >> So here's what I'll do. I'll make a deal with you. >> If they don't confirm on your warrant, >> I'm going to take you out of cuffs. Okay. >> I'm going to send you on your way with your bag. >> Mhm. >> And if it's determined that you actually did steal, >> Mhm. >> I'm going to be sending a ticket in the mail, a citation, because like I said, regardless, because of the way that you've acted tonight, I wasn't going to take you to jail anyway. She wouldn't have went to jail anyway, but she resisted the other officer or officers, our sergeant and another officer. >> She freaked out. >> Uh, you guys wouldn't have gone to jail anyway. >> Me. >> Oh, you're out of Georgia, too? >> Yes, sir. Sarah's got a felony warrant out of a >> I did not know that either. She said that she was off probation and that's when she came here. She said she's off of probation. >> And this is what she told me. She's liar. Man, >> whose ID is that? >> She said Sarah gave it to her. Sarah met her on the bus originally. She You said it was your cousin. >> Then you said you were friends. Then you said you hadn't even met the guy. >> So here's the deal. >> That was found on your person, which means you're in possession of it. So, if we call and find out that you're >> Wow. And I took it from her. I'm serious. I took it from her because I thought she was messing with the girl. I was like, "Who the is this?" And she was like, "She met her on the bus." Wow. Oh my god. This regardless of what the outcome of the ID is, right? From the sounds of it, the other officer told you you were under arrest for resisting as well. >> I wasn't resisting. So on top >> shocked me. >> Has has she been read? >> So on top of the resisting, >> you're also under arrest for theft at minimum third degree. >> Oh my god. Please. >> Probably going to jail tonight. >> Please. [laughter] My daughter. I want to go home to my daughter. >> The suspect begins crying, but the officer stays focused on getting her to comply with the next steps. >> I'm sympathetic on a lot of things. >> I swear to God. I swear to you. >> They're crying. >> I'm not. I know, but my daughter is digging. I'm not even >> I used to get in trouble and I used to sir. Let's be done crying. Serious. Okay. But my daughter, let's stop crying. >> I'm not even feeding you. No. My daughter is sick and that's why I came here. I just came here. >> Sarah's calling your daughter. Anyways, back to what I'm saying. >> What is she calling my daughter for? That's not her daughter's >> to let her to let her know what's going on. Okay. You, not Sarah. You were caught on video concealing stuff into a bag. >> Oh my god. You were at the register >> scanning some items and paying for some of those items. >> And I didn't pay for the ones in the bag. >> You didn't pay for the ones in the bags and arguably some other ones as well. >> And I I mean I No, everything that I scanned I did pay for though. >> Yeah. Everything that was scanned was paid for. That is correct. And that's on >> the stuff that's in the bag and stuff and the stuff that was in the buggy. And I already told him sir, yes, it was in there. And like I said, my daughter was sick last night and I felt bad because I'm disabled. I don't have no money and I'm not going to be no s. I'm not. and but my daughter's been sick and that's the whole reason why I came to Washington. I haven't been in trouble since I've been here. I've been good and I've been trying to take care of my daughter because I felt bad and I haven't got her nothing and I just felt bad. I want to do something nice for my daughter. Just surprise her. That's it. That's just being honest. It was stupid and it was because my daughter would much rather be at home helping her. Before moving any further, officers contact the person listed on the driver's license found in the woman's purse. And what they learn only deepens [music] her troubles. >> Hello. >> Hello. This is Sergeant the with the Lynwood Police. I am trying to read. [clears throat] >> This is >> Hi, Kyla. So, I just arrested a woman by the name of Sarah on a shoplift outside of Target. She was found to be in possession of your Washington state driver's license. Uh-huh. >> Oh, >> do >> Yeah. >> Uh, yeah. Are you missing your driver's license? >> Uh, yeah. I replaced it a while back. That and some credit cards. >> I see. Okay. Uh, do you know a Jessica E. Wells? >> I do not. >> Does she have permission to have or possess your driver's license? >> Not in any way, shape, or form. >> Okay. Would you be willing to press charges for possession of another's ID? Absolutely. >> Excellent. I love to hear it. >> What's your first name? >> Jessica. >> Jessica. Like I said, you're under arrest for the theft, which is I believe it's going to be theft in the third degree. >> You're also arrest for I believe they established PC for resisting arrest. >> What? >> Yeah. You don't pull away from us. >> I didn't know it was Jessica. It's Listen to me. >> I understand that, but I'm a turn to talk. >> Sergeant there here. He's the patrol sergeant on our squad here. >> He just called the person that ID. >> I understand. >> He's established probable cause to arrest you for possession of another's ID as well. >> Can't have us. >> So that's three things. Tonight you're going to go down to Snowish County Jail. >> You're going to be booked on those three charges. In the morning, you're going to be able to see a judge. >> Please go grab my car. >> All right. >> Do you have anything on you that's going to poke me, stick me, come here, or harm me? >> No. This is my phone. Do you have any on you? >> No, I don't think so. No, >> you don't think so? >> No. >> If you did, what do you have? >> Powder. >> If I did, it would be some um >> Okay. >> And I'm just being honest. >> I appreciate that. If cuz if it's powder, that's scary stuff. >> No, I don't any of that. No. >> And don't start. I want some. >> After confirming she has no more controlled substances on her, officers move to wrap up the case. >> Okay. All right, man. Please, [crying] man. Mr. Ste, please. Can you give me a chocolate, please? I need to go home to my kid tonight. Please. >> You got kids at home tonight right now? >> Yes, sir. [laughter] How old are they? >> My oldest one is 20, but still she's taking some seizures. >> As the police car pulls up, her pleading intensifies, but the officers have already made their decision. Please let me out. >> How much How much do you have on you? >> Just a little bit. If it's on me, I don't know for sure if it is. If it is, then it's in this pocket. >> Just a little bit in that pocket. >> Yes, sir. It's in this pocket. >> How much? Like 20 bucks worth? >> 20 bucks. Okay. >> If it is. >> Okay. Please come to the front. >> Pull your shirt down on the front. I will pull your shirt down in the front. There you go. >> So much. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to resist. I was just shocked. I didn't know what the was going on. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do that. You got to understand when the police show up, the only response is immediate. >> Just turning around like what's going on? I didn't I went like jerking away. I trying to bite you. I didn't. >> Okay. >> I'm sorry. Sorry. I really am. >> Well, I appreciate that. I believe you when you tell me you're sorry. >> Please believe you. I am sorry. >> I do believe you. I mean, we got to hold you accountable tonight obviously, but >> I understand that. You know, I I hope this is a lesson learned that you probably should stop hanging out with Sarah >> carrying anybody else's ID, which to be honest, I I don't I don't believe you that you're not using other people for nothing. >> Okay? >> Whatever Sarah's done is what Sarah's dead. But I don't want her around me no more. If you don't mind, please tell her that. >> Okay? >> I don't want her around me no more. I don't >> Well, I'm going to let you know right now that, you know, using somebody else's ID, that becomes identity theft and that's a felony and that's a big deal >> sort of thing up here. All right, >> I understand that, sir. >> In the end, the woman was charged with retail theft, identity theft, and resisting arrest. This shoplifter made things worse for himself fast. In this next case, officers responded to a local retail store after reports of a man shoplifting and attempting to leave without paying. Officers quickly set up outside and waited for the suspect to make his move. >> He turned down that road by Duncan. >> Okay. >> Hstead. >> All right. What uh what's he what's he wearing? >> Uh he got a coat on. Black guy with a black coat, black pants, bald head, gray grayish beard. >> All right. >> You probably see them right on Hallstead, but I think they're on Holstead or by in front of Freddy's there. >> Okay. >> Dunkin Donuts. pretty well. Sir. Sir, I need you to stop. You 434. I got him walking northbound on H Hallstead. Approaching 174. He's got a bag of chicken in his hand. >> Your assigned call has been up. Moments later, officers spot [music] the suspect walking out with a merchandise in hand, and they waste no time making contact. >> Stop. Stop. >> I said stop. >> Are you going to make me chase you down? >> What is the problem? >> I said stop. >> What am I for? >> Retail theft. fail. They fail. They picked that up. >> They picked that up. They picked it up. They picked it up. >> Get down. >> They picked it up. >> I said get down. >> They picked it up. >> I said get down. >> They picked it up. >> I said get down. >> They picked it up. I suck. THEY PICKED IT UP. QUIT RESISTING. Quit resisting. Quit resisting. They picked this up. Okay, turn around. Turn over. Roll over. Roll over. >> Stay down. Hey, pick yourself up. Roll over. Sit down. Put your hands behind your back. Put your hands behind your back. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> On my back. No, >> he's not. Put your hand behind your back right now. Hey. Hey, you're under arrest. Quit resisting. Put your hand behind your back. Why are you being stupid? >> Quit resisting. Put your hands behind your back. >> The unpaid merchandise was worth around $83, but his attempt to flee turned [music] a simple theft case into something bigger. Excuse [snorts] me. >> What's your name? >> What is it? >> Kevin. >> Kevin? What? >> Williams. >> All right. You all right? >> Yeah. All right. Roll over. Roll over all the way. Put this leg over here. There you go. Bend the other leg. Stand [clears throat] up. Stand up. There you go. is going to be 57. >> Hit me in the back in the face with a bag. There's that's what he took. He's all full. >> All right. My phone becom 434. Is there anyone close to Juul that can transport him over there for a show up? By the end of the encounter, the suspect was charged with retail theft, resisting arrest, and battery on a peace officer. This officer didn't expect the shoplifting call [music] to go like this. On May 30th, 2024, officers were called to Marshalls in response to a call of a man shoplifting and leaving without paying. They later tracked him down at a bus stop before he could leave the area. Here's what happened next. >> Hi, my friend. You know why I You know why I'm talking to you? Okay. Marshalls. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Come and talk to me. Okay. >> Let's try to keep you as much out as much trouble as we can. All right. >> Bring all your stuff. They're all Marshall stuff coming back. And then the only thing I got back All right, man. So, go ahead and put your stuff down. So, here's the deal. Yes, sir. >> I I they're they're pretty heated over there. They're pretty heated. I want to help you out as best as I can, but I need you to be honest with me. >> Yes, sir. >> So, they're telling me this is like your teenth number time doing this. All right. What? Let's start with honesty. How much did you take? Cuz I want to be able to say yes, he was honest. This is what he took versus them saying you took a 10 more time stuff. >> I took these two >> just the the quezin art the two quezin arts. That's it. >> Yes. >> All this stuff is yours? >> Yes. >> Okay. Uh what are you taking the quez arts for, man? Like a gift or something? >> Okay. Do you have anything on you that I should be aware of? Okay. Do you have an ID on you? Can I get the ID, please? 104. >> Yeah, I'm 104. I'm 95th in Kenton. We'll be standing by for a show if they want to pursue charges. Uh he has two quez and arts. He's uh saying you took I'm just asking if you could possibly give me a break. >> Yeah, they seem they seem pretty heated. >> And miss, you can go. You can go. Wearing gray gray with the black hood. >> The suspect is later identified as Rudolph Hampton [music] and surprisingly he quickly admits to the allegations. >> Yeah. 104. He already admitted it to me. He says he did took you two quezin art griddles. >> And 21, I'm going to have a file for you. >> Go ahead. >> All right. So, Mr. Hampton. Really, what's it going to come down to? Is they're saying that you took a whole bunch of stuff in the past? Is any of that true? >> Yeah. 104, if you could just run a queue to both my box and 321s. >> All right. So, what's going to happen is security guard's coming over. He has to he has to look at you and identify and say, "Yes, you are the gentleman who did this." I've already said >> I already said you're honest. You're being honest with me completely. I've made that clear to the other officer. Um they're either going to say, "Hey, listen. We want our crap back. We want them to get a ticket or they're going to say, "Hey, we want our crap back. We want them arrested." So, we we as the police really have to do whatever they want, but I'm going to certainly tell them you were honest with me. Okay. How many times you I I ran your criminal history. It's called How many times you've been arrested for this? >> This is just one. >> This is just the ones. But them telling me that you've done this a whole bunch of times, they're making it up. >> Honestly, uh I had an issue with the security guard. He stopped me. He turned to me. >> Okay. told him this wasn't our stuff. He said, "Go ahead." >> So, in the past there was maybe a misunderstanding or something. >> Hampton claimed he'd never had issues involving theft before, but dispatch quickly proves otherwise. Man, I asked you how many times they my my dispatch just told me you've been arrested for lararseny before. Stealing? >> No, sir. Not they just told me. >> Not larseny. >> Yeah, that's what they just told me, man. Larseny. Stealing. No, sir. >> Stealing, man. >> Not lar. >> Okay. >> I would. >> Like I said, I'm not trying to stand here and tell you your business. It's your business. That's just what attached to your criminal history, man. >> So, all right. We're just going to hang out. I know it sucks to be kind of like in the middle of now middle of open people staring at you. >> Got it back now. I am 2021 registered and holding it up to you. >> Do they want 95? Okay. >> All right. Go ahead and put your bag down for me, man. So, right now they do want you placed into custody for this. You got to take a ride with me, but because you've been so cool with me, I'm going to try and continue it. Be as cool as I can with you. Okay. >> I'm going to double lock these cuffs, which mean they're not going to get tighter on you. Now, here's the biggest thing, man. When I take you back to booking, I don't want you to get jammed up for a little bit of on you or something silly, a pocketk knife, anything like that on you right now. Okay? I'm going to search you and then my partner's going to search you. We get into my car. Okay, go ahead. Separate your feet for me, please. Again, I only care about pocket knives, bazookas. >> I mean, is is it possible that they that uh that I can talk to the security guard and see? >> Oh, so they've already made the decision. Uh he wants to tell the security guard how sorry he is. >> Yeah, I'll tell his officer. Right. Is this a brace or something? An ankle brace? Okay. >> You okay? Hey, you have an injury? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Take him in. >> Yeah, of course. >> Yeah. >> With charges confirmed [music] by the store and his identity verified, officers proceed with loading him into the patrol car. >> Take him. Mine's right here. >> Yeah. All right. Just watch your step, man, on this curb. Go ahead. Step over. We're going that black car. >> All right. Just so you know, right? You're a verbal oral trespasser. You have to go back. >> All right. So, those things are double locked. They're not going to get tighter on you. Okay. Be right back. Thank you. Thank you. When is the last time you've been arrested, Mr. Hampton? Okay. So, the other officer that you just met, he is the what we call the arresting officer. I'm just transporting you. So, I I I would say let's be uh let's do blank slate with him. When he asks you about stuff with your history, just be honest with him. Um your criminal history is saying you've done this before. Again, I'm not trying to insult you because it's your life. You know, you were the one there, not me. That's just what our computer system is saying. >> Charles 34928. Charles 349. So, those other two smaller bags you had or maybe it was just one bag, that's your property you're saying, right? >> Is that correct, Mr. Hampton? Okay. Let me make sure cuz I want our uh I want to make sure our officer brings that back. >> I'm sorry. I'm I I can't hear it. Can you speak a little bit? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Give me one second, man. Uh At the station, Hampton is searched before officers move forward with booking and processing. >> All right, Mr. Hampton, go ahead. Step out. Let me know if you need any help. No shame in it. >> When the officer says to, we're going to go through this door. >> Make sure he's ready for you. Okay, just follow this gentleman. I'll be right in there. >> Hello. >> No, I don't. Unless you want If you want me to take it, I have no issue. >> Oh, I don't think I did. I think they did it. >> Yeah. Yeah, he's being fine. He says those two smaller bags are his. I don't know if that's true, but that's what he's saying. >> Okay. All right. Thanks. The case wrapped up with Hampton being charged with retail theft. She came back to the store, then made things much worse. On March 8th, 2026, officers responded to a Walmart after a woman was caught shoplifting. When they arrived, the staff informed them that the suspect was already sitting inside her vehicle. Here's what a witness told officers next. >> Okay. What's happening? Hey. >> Um, hold on, y'all. Hold on. I'mma clip back in in a minute. Hold on. Um, so I don't really know, you know, what she was doing. We drove separate car. I came to do some grocery shopping. >> Yeah, >> I guess she came to do some grocery shopping, but uh she was in the like the selfch checkout scanning her stuff or whatever and the guy just kind of walked over there and I had my own lane and she was in her own lane. So I was, you know, just looked over and I seen the guy like grabbing her bags and stuff out the court or whatever. And um and she was like yelling, telling him like, "What you grabbing my stuff for? I'm not done scanning and this and all of that." And he was like, "Well, I think he said you you going to jail for trespassing or something." And she was like, "Uh, what are you talking about?" She's like, "I'm not done scanning my stuff." So I'm like, "What's going on?" I said, "You know, why you not scanning yourself? What you what are you doing? Like why you didn't pay for it or whatever?" >> And uh and he was just like holding the buggy and bags and I was asking another worker. I said, you know, well, did he work here or whatever? What's going on? >> And um and they was like, "Well, yeah, he do." But they didn't say nothing. So, you know, I don't know what's going on. I'm like, I don't, you know. >> Okay. >> I don't know. >> So, what there was somebody said something about a bag of chicken getting thrown at somebody. Do you know anything about that or >> No. >> No. Okay. Um, so you were just in the checkout lane. Do you know the people over here in this car or >> Yeah, I know. I knew him. Okay. >> Was who was who was arguing over the guy in the >> Yeah. So, I I'm honestly, like I said, he was literally like I didn't know she knew him. So, I just kind of got back to scanning my stuff and was like, I don't know what's going on. But he was like holding the bag. I just never seen nothing like that happening. So, he was holding the bags and he was like grabbing the buggy and was like, "You not going nowhere." And all of that. And she was just like, you know, "What are you doing?" So, I mean, he was, you know, I just feel like kind of doing too much. >> He was doing that to this girl over here. >> Yeah. >> Got it. Okay. >> Yeah. Cuz I was like, I don't know why would he do all of that. So, >> yeah. Yeah, seems odd, but we'll try to figure something out. >> I never seen him do nothing like that and I'm like, what's going on? >> Okay, so you weren't involved in anything aside from just seeing what was going on.
