Some folks bring their agame to work. These ones brought alcohol and poor decisions. Here are five cases when employees show up drunk and refuse to leave. Number five, when you ruin the office party and your boss watches it all happen. On December 14th, 2023, officers were dispatched to a local restaurant after staff reported a highly intoxicated woman who had allegedly turned violent with other patrons and refused to leave. Here's what happened when the authorities arrived at the scene. >> One of the ladies, I guess she drank too much, getting a little violent with some of the other people. Some lady seems not to be going that bad right now. But >> is this her? >> The black trips. Okay. >> Black and pearls. Got it. >> Back and see what >> see if they can straighten it out. >> Yeah. Okay. >> But they they said need to call you. So cuz I'm not touching. >> Yeah, of course not. Ask Yes, ma'am. How you doing? >> We have an employee that had a little too much and we don't want to leave her here. She's refusing to get an Uber to go home. I don't know what we do with her. >> How did she get here? Do we know? >> Uber. She won't give us her home address, so we can call an Uber. She's like really sed. >> Really sed up. That's a good way to put it. >> She's right there in the >> What's her name? >> Gentleman. >> Okay. And the gentleman with her is an employee also. >> Yes. You guys know she's struggling to want to talk to her, but she's gotten like abusive and >> Okay. >> Talking about boyfriends and jobs. >> Yeah. >> So, the drinking has just stimulated a lot of negativity. Yes. Emotions. Bit of issues with her at work. >> Understood. Okay. Um, >> we just want to make sure she gets home safe. >> 100%. She did lay her hands on Annabelle when Annabelle told her she needed to like try to like leave now. She got up and pushed her and you know we we can't really let other employees pushing other employees. >> Are you the manager? >> No, he's the owner. >> You're the owner. >> Leave multiple times. >> Sure. Sure. >> Ultimately, we're all ready to leave now. We paid our bill. I think we're going to pay our bill. We can leave. It becomes your problem afterwards if you guys want to get rid of her. >> Well, she can't stay. Yeah, she can't stay. She has to leave. Once we leave. Yeah. No, it's fine. I appreciate the issue. We're trying to make it. Look, she's an attorney. I don't know what's going on in her personal life. Like, she's obviously not things aren't right. I don't it don't want to go. >> Concerned for her well-being, the woman's co-workers had tried to slow her drinking. However, they also revealed that her current behavior isn't something new. With that, the officers now step in to take over. >> Right. You guys all came out for the good Uber and >> Yes, ma'am. No, no. You You guys are all Everybody's intentions here in the right place. >> Sometimes someone just needs and you got the uniform, the vest. >> Give me one second. We can talk. Yeah, absolutely. Give me one second. >> How you doing, sir? >> Good. How are you? >> My like big beautiful >> How you doing? >> How are you? >> Are you the Jennifer that I'm here to talk to? Oh my god, I'm very generous. >> Lee, [laughter] nice to meet you. Pleasure to meet you. We're here just talking. Make sure you're okay, but two things have come to life. The business is closing and just want to make sure that you're going to be okay getting to make sure that also. >> We all make that clear. >> I'm sorry, dear. >> We are okay. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. you're doing okay right now, but the business is closing and the uh you know your co-workers and friends are concerned about how you're getting home and things like that. So, >> well, I can't concern myself with that except to say that our expectation is that we're going to be very well protected by the law. >> Well, yes, you can concern yourself with your own personal responsibility of leaving when the restaurant is closed. Yes, you can. So, we'll start with that. Are you sir planning on maybe >> Yeah, I'm ready to go. Are you ready to go? >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> I'm going to call an Uber. Why don't you grab your stuff? >> Are you you you're okay. >> Yeah, I'm getting We're both getting a separate. Fantastic. Thank you so much. Great. Despite how the evening started, the initial conversation with the suspect went smoothly. And once outside, things still seemed under control until the effects of her drinking began to set in. >> This the whole Christmas party. She's had a little bit too much. She's been a little stubborn. get a little uh a little pushy. >> So, we'll make sure they get into >> Well, he he's played game. He's not getting I like it. Yeah. Very nice. Yeah. Yeah. No, no, no. I get that. Yeah, I totally understand that. So, that's good that uh >> his wife kill him right now. >> Oh, yeah. I didn't check that out this >> Well, we are. But this is uh >> in a good way, right? >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I've asked for his assistance and he's helping me, so we'll prove it that way. Well, yeah, of course. >> What are you guys doing here tonight? >> We are just making sure everybody gets home. >> Whoa, whoa, whoa. You okay, >> Jen? >> I think we need an ambulance. I think we need to hold on to her, though. >> Yeah, it is. It's very windy tonight. It's all right. We'll be all right. Stand. We're going to have a seat. All right, dear. Good call. >> There you are. Over to your left. There you go. Right there. Okay. All right. I I've only ridden the Uber a few times, but I knew it. Hold on. You almost fell down. We had to catch you. >> Hey, listen, Jennifer. It's two seconds. We've not been very nice to you. We're just trying to make sure you get home safely. We literally all three had to catch you so you didn't fall on the ground. That's why we have a chair. We're not We're not here against you. >> We just make sure you get home. All right. Would you do us all a favor and just have a seat? >> You're not in trouble. >> Prime example. >> The woman complained she needs to use the restroom while waiting for her ride. Given her cooperation throughout the interaction, the officer sees no issue with granting the request. >> I just go to the bathroom. >> No, you can go inside. Use the rest. >> One second. Take it off. There you go. That'll be perfect. You want to help? Right there. That door right there. Go ahead. >> Push. I'm taking off my shirt. >> No, not right now. Not right now. >> Jennifer, we need to go. >> Okay, fine. Jennifer, we need to go. >> Jennifer, come on. We need to go in the car. >> We can pick it off in the car. Car's here. Oh my god. Oh my god. Are we like in coming in like the government or something? >> Guess what? Let's go right up here. >> Jennifer, your right here at the front door. Okay. >> As soon as I'm ready, Jennifer. >> Oh, is that what's really happening now? >> You're not giving me the opportunity like shoes. >> Jennifer, that was happening. I don't think that's >> You want to go home? >> Yeah. >> Okay, let's go. We're The car's here. Let's turn off the car. Jennifer, >> the car is outside. It's right here. You can take your shoes off in the car. Just wait. Walk to the front door. Okay. You don't want to go home. There's >> nobody here. Jennifer, >> do you want to go home or not? >> If you don't want to go home, we can arrange other things, but trying to get you home. >> Really like. >> Moments after returning from the restroom, the suspect changes course. She refuses to leave and begins acting out, undoing all the progress made just minutes earlier. Oh lord. [clears throat] >> Okay. Okay. >> Jennifer, please just walk to the front. >> Excuse me, Annabelle. You like allowed this to happen. >> Ma'am, you're an adult. >> Let's go. >> My car is out. >> Yes. Let's go. >> Your car just taking you over. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. >> Come on, Jennifer. >> We're not winning. This isn't a battle. We're not here against you, >> Jennifer. Let's go. >> I'll take him over here. He's going to leave in like two minutes though. >> Your car's going to leave if you don't go. >> Not going. >> No. >> No. We're trying. >> Annabelle, do you want any Do you want Do you want to know what the all I'm trying to close up? I got to get Please. I got my >> Okay, here we go. >> Hey, fire rescue. >> Jennifer, get up. >> No. >> Alpha 101. >> Alpha 101. arrest. >> I'm suing you, Annabelle. [clears throat] >> What's your >> extremely intoxicated female? >> Yeah, I'm extremely intoxicated. >> Sorry, guys. >> Jennifer, you're about to go to jail. Okay, so you got two seconds in the Uber. >> You understand me? You're about to go to jail. Do you want to go to jail? >> Yes. No. >> From there. I'll call my lawyer when I feel >> Jennifer. >> Jennifer, >> you realize this is all being recorded. >> Excuse me. >> Yes. >> She continues arguing her case, even criticizing those who stepped in out of concern. But the officer cuts her off. He's already heard enough. >> What's up? Miss correct? >> Nothing like she's trying to happen. >> I'm just trying to get through my work day. Like nothing happened. >> No, work day has been over for hours. You've been here drinking the whole employees and they called us because they needed your assistance cuz you were so out of control. So here we are, man, trying to help you for the last 30 minutes. Doing everything we can, calling you Uber, standing you up, getting you chairs, taking you to the bathroom, and we had to actually stop you from going pee outside. >> We We want this to go a much different route, but since you fell on the ground, we want fire rescue to come check out, make sure you're okay. If you want to go home, you got to get up now before he leaves. >> I don't care. I'm just about to leave. >> What's your plan for the evening, Jennifer? What's your plan? >> We're not We're not about to babysit. >> This is like my my entire life. Backup arrives to help escort the suspect out. But just when it seems things are under control, she makes a sudden move that throws everything into chaos. >> Damn. Relax. >> That's it. You want You want to do it? You want to do You want to get me a brain? >> Okay, fine. >> That was a stupid Let me grab that. P. Thank you. Thank you. That doesn't work. One out the eight. >> Is there is Amber working? >> Yeah. >> Stay face stay facing the car. >> Have a seat. Put your butt down first and put it. There you go. >> Inside the cruiser, the suspect [music] wastes no time stirring up more trouble, making it clear she has no plans of going quietly. >> Do not get out. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Stop it. >> Whoa, whoa, whoa. Stop it. >> Stop it. Stop it. >> Put your hand behind your back. >> I got this. >> Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. I don't have any arms. I'm not armed. Stop it. I'm not armed. Stop it. I'm not armed. I'm not armed. Stop it. >> With one handcuff arm, you aren't are armed. Okay. >> You are armed with one handcuff. Relax. >> Please let me go. Please. >> No. You had the option an hour ago. You assaulted an officer. You're going to jail. >> I'm not assaulted officer. >> Not asking. You were telling. >> Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop. >> Let her go on the side. Yeah. >> Please. Maybe you >> Oh god. Thank you. Jennifer, how much did you have to drink tonight? Do you remember? >> Not that much. >> We're sorry we had to talk to you about this this evening. We're grateful for your phone call. We wanted to let you know we have your daughter. She's not going to be coming home to your place tonight. She's going to the hospital first. She's in our custody and then going to the Brower County Jail. So, um, at that right now, I have to help my partner out with some paperwork. So, I just want to let you know what was going on. Okay, dear. No, no, she's a grown adult. She's gonna handle her business when she soers up. >> All righty. I'm sorry, ma'am. I'm sorry. You're okay. She's okay, though. You know, it's just bad decisions. Yes, ma'am. Bye-bye. >> Poor lady. She's 86 years old. She doesn't Unbelievable. >> At the end of the night, the suspect received multiple charges, including disorderly conduct, bribery, [music] and battery on a police officer. Number three, when the teacher shows up at school drunk. On April 22nd, 2022, officers responded to a report of a teacher who had allegedly shown up to school intoxicated. Though the school sent them home, the teacher chose to drive, prompting police to step in. >> Someone from your school suspected that you were drinking, and that's what drew the attention. And then when you were kept inching up on him when he's parked doing lawn equipment that that made me that's why I came up and stopped you though. >> Yeah. I wasn't sure he was doing so I just basically got sent home because I was having a panic attack. >> Okay. >> And they told me to get home and call them when I get home. >> Gotcha. Okay. Have you taken anything today? >> No. >> Did you drink anything today? >> No. >> Okay. All right. I got someone else here. They're going to come and check into a little bit more. You probably shouldn't be driving no matter what. So, where do you where do you live? >> I live. >> So, not real far. Okay. But still in the just kind of what I'm seeing, it doesn't look like you should be driving right now. >> I'm just having a very emotional >> even with all those emotions going. What What is going on? It just doesn't seem like it might be a good idea to be driving right now. >> I understand. >> All right. Give Give him a couple minutes. Say, "Come here." And we'll we'll get it figured out. Okay. What's What's your name? Do >> do you have your license on you? Thanks. We'll give the other guy a couple minutes and uh then uh we'll check into it if is there someone that could give you a ride if if we end up going that route. >> I I I guess my supervisor can. >> Okay. All right. Well, let's see. When he gets here, we'll maybe see if we can do something like that. All right. She insists the school misread the situation, saying it was a panic attack, not alcohol, that led to her being sent home. The officer then steps aside to brief the arriving backup on the situation. Totally did not want to get into this at all. I'm sitting there running the gate back and forth, letting people go in and out of the church or whatever. >> This teacher or principal, something flies up and says, >> "She's drunk. She's drunk." I'm like, "Okay, well, >> you're not, you know, for the school." I go, "What a shit." They are her teacher. She says, "A teacher." >> Okay. So, I come and this trailer here. >> She's like right up on, you know, they're doing Monica >> and the guy's standing. They're like, "What the?" >> And she just keeps inching up on them. So, I figure I got enough for a travel stop. So, I do that. The eyes are definitely watery. This that whatever. She I'm just having a panic attack. But I look in Asus while I'm waiting here. About one year ago, um I think it was Zean, remember Ziggy? >> Yeah, remember he's I think he's a school cop now. >> Okay. >> He took a report here that someone found a cop with alcohol in her classroom. So, I think if you guys do end up doing a DUI, I'll do a supplement of saying, "Hey, I took the keys out of the ignition and this is why I made this stop." >> Make your own you guys think, you know. >> All right. But that guy was just wondering why why are you here? You're supposed to be at the gate, you know, pass over to relieve you. >> So, I'll give you your ID and uh and um whatever the the school had sent her home today, too, cuz of drinking. I don't know why they did that. Like, that was counterproductive. They chase her down. >> All right. Yeah, we'll we'll run her through. >> I don't know. >> It might >> I'm going to get back there. Let me know what you guys do end up doing. If you do, I'll do a stop. If not, then we're back. >> Yeah, I got you. >> All right. Thanks. >> All right. Thanks, Mr. >> The suspect gives a brief account of her work incident when questioned by backup. But when the officers try to clarify the facts, she resists answering further. >> Miss Lauren. >> Hi. >> Hi. My name is Officer Styles with Clearwater Police Department. >> Hi. >> What's going on? Well, I just kind of got fired from my job. >> Okay. >> And so they offered me a ride home, but I only live in >> Okay. >> So, I just wanted to get home. >> Why were you Why do you believe that you were fired from your job? >> It's It's a long story. >> I mean, I'm here to listen if you can give me like cliff notes. >> I'm not completely fired from the job. It's I got a I got >> I got um an offer from Hillsboro County. >> Okay. >> And then they retracted that from me. Okay. >> And I just found that out and since I was like kind of depressed and upset, my supervisor told me just go home and relax and just >> okay >> be okay. So, do you know why this other officer stopped you? >> Because I was inching up closer to >> I'm sorry it's hard to hear you over this uh llama. Hopefully, he'll turn it off in a second. So, why did the other officer stop you? >> He said because I was in too close to the truck. >> Okay. Well, can you um either put your phone aside or hang up that phone call and step out of the car for me, please? >> No. Okay. >> No, I don't have to. >> Well, you do. So, I'm telling you right now that you >> drinking today? >> No. >> Okay. Asking to step out of the car. >> I'm asking you to step out of the car. >> No. >> You are either going to do it voluntarily >> or I am going to do it myself. So, those are your options. >> Okay. >> So, I'm asking you to put the phone on the side or hang up the call, but you have to get out of the car. Believing she's within her rights to refuse, the suspect pushes back until the officers lay out the facts and she chooses to comply. >> It's my fifth It's my fifth amendment, I guess. >> Can you Can I call my supervisor? >> No, you don't have that option. I'm asking you to step out of the car. >> For what reason? >> Because I would like you to do some field sobriety tasks. >> You don't do that. Don't do that. We're going to do a DUI investigation. Okay. You're already exhibiting clues of alcohol impairment. Okay. >> How? If I'm crying? >> No. >> It has to do with your eyes. >> If I'm crying. >> No, I can see it in your eyes. >> So, I understand he's telling you to not step out of the car, but I'm telling you that I'm giving you an order to step out of this car. And if you don't step out of this car, I'm going to remove you from this car. >> Let's just be cooperative and talk to us out of the car. >> I will be cooperative. >> Okay. >> Okay. I'm sorry. I'm just very >> I understand your emotional state, but you have to understand that whenever we tell you to step out of the car, >> your fifth amendment right is for custodial questioning. >> All right. Let's have a step over here. >> All right. So, as we informed you, >> so what am I supposed to do? >> I'm going to ask you to do some field sobriety tasks. >> Okay. >> If you're willing to participate in them, >> Yeah. >> then I will do the field sobriety task with you. Okay. >> Okay. >> Mhm. >> Real quick, have you had any alcohol today? >> No. I've been crying all day, so I'm sorry if my eyes are >> all right. >> A hot mess. >> When was the last time you did drink alcohol or consume any type of >> I I came from rehab in December. >> She insists she's been sober for a while, but based on what they've observed so far, the officers aren't convinced and continue to press her for answers. So, you last had a drink when? >> Last had a drink, I I had a lapse um about two weeks ago. >> Okay. And did you just have like your one day of drinking and be done? Or >> It was just two days of drinking. Yeah. And it was a lapse. So, it wasn't a relapse. I didn't >> Having that in mind, you're you're going to say you haven't had any alcohol. >> I haven't had alcohol >> or yesterday. No. The day before or the past two weeks? >> No. I had to get myself together. >> Yeah. >> Um Okay. Stand by. I want to get the car and pull it up and get the paper. >> Okay. Just stay right here. >> All right. Can you do me a favor? Can you state your name for me, please? >> Lauren Rose. >> Okay. I'm going to ask you some like medical questions first and then we're going to get into the exercises. Okay. Okay. >> So, they're going to sound some of them are going to sound like a little silly, but just answer them. Okay. Do you have any physical defects? >> No. >> Real quick. So, what happened when you left the school? >> So, I left. They asked >> They offered you a ride. You said, "No, I just want to go home." >> I said, "I just want to go because I'm >> Okay. >> And I'm so close. >> Why were they concerned about you driving? >> Because I was crying. >> Okay. Well, did they or did you tell them that you consumed alcohol or had a beer or something or >> No. No, that wasn't the issue. >> Why would they flag down the officer who stopped you? Why would they flag him down and say, "You're drunk. You're drunk. Go stop her." Why would they say that? >> Yeah. Like, honestly, I had like a nice conversation with people I work with. So, I don't know if it's like some outside source or something that was from a different department, but the people that I work with, like they they were very concerned about me just because I was crying and upset. >> Okay. Where which school do you work at? I work for um private schools in Mel County. So I work for >> The more the suspect talks, the less sense her story makes. At this point, the officers need to see for themselves and initiate a sobriety check. >> So I go to three different schools and then I come here as my office. >> Who are you last talking to at the school? >> Capital. >> Okay. Do you have her number? if it's okay if I >> Yeah, I just want to call her as well. >> You said her name is Catherine. >> It It's Kathleen. >> Okay. >> What's her last name? >> Miss I can't even spell it. >> Just say it. >> Miss Goldchock. >> I wouldn't be able to spell it. >> It's okay. Phanetic is all right. >> I just have her as Kathy. So, this is if you >> No, just tell me the number. I'll call myself. down the car. >> All right. So, do me a favor. And follow your eye. Okay. >> Just your eye. Can you see your hair out of the >> Sorry, your hair is literally the exact point where I need to work. >> Yeah, I know. My hair is off the fine. Totally understand. Okay. So, you're exhibiting all the signs, okay, of impairment right now, just looking at your eyes. Okay. So, >> the results of the sobriety test put a massive hole in the suspect's claims. The officers deliver the news to the suspect who is surprisingly still in denial. >> Changed anything with you as far as to what you've consumed today? >> It doesn't make sense. I didn't consume anything. I did I did have a rough day. Like I did. >> What do you mean by that? Huh? >> I just got fired from my job. >> So >> So you being emotional isn't going to affect you exhibiting signs of and or alcohol. >> Okay. Like there's like a thing like the eyes don't lie. Like >> like we know there's something on board. Basically >> there's a nestagmus in your eyes that's uncontrollable after you consume alcohol. >> Did you do wrong? >> So you're operating a vehicle? >> No, but what did I do wrong with my eye test? >> But you didn't do anything wrong. It's an involuntary motion. >> Hey Kathy, this is Austin Miller with the Clearwater Police Department. Um hey, so we're out here with Lauren. Um >> I don't understand what I did. Oh, well, she got pulled over um just after she left the school. Um now, were you or someone the the folks who flagged down an officer working across the street at the church to tell them that she needs to be stopped? She she shouldn't be driving. >> No, no. I'm on the side of the road. She's talking with another officer right now. >> Okay. So, um, so what's the situation? >> As more backup units arrive, one officer quickly brings them up to speed with a concise rundown of everything that's happened so far. >> So, all clues. >> Yeah. >> So, she's like a teacher that um was sent home. Um, so basically like she has some emotional stuff going on cuz she got like let go from another job. Um, so she's like, you know, teeyed already and stuff. So, she's working here at that um whatever the the school is, the fundamental school. >> She gets sent home. Um they offer her like to take her home or like you know a ride share or something >> and she's like, "No, I live down countryside. I'm going to just take my car." Um so, Officer Pers is across the street at the offduty job at the at the church. >> Yeah. >> Um and they run over and flag him down as she drives away and they're like, you know, stop her. She's drunk. She's drunk. So, he's like, "Okay. So he comes over, catches up to her over here, and she's like inching behind um this trailer, like to the point where it's like like there's a guy behind the trailer, and she's like inching toward him, and he's like, "What?" So he stops him at that point. Um makes contact. Um since he's on the off duty, he calls for a unit. We get sent. >> Um so we kind of start the questions. Right now, she's saying no alcohol. Um she's saying she has had an alcohol problem in the past. actually had a relapse two weeks ago. Um, but I'm like, but how about today or the day before? >> What do you smell? >> Um, I haven't been close enough to like smell. Um, but she she's all clues on HGN, you know. She's, >> you know, um, yes. Yes. So, she's on set of 45 maximum deviation >> and like smooth for sure and vertical as well. Um, >> so I kind of want her to do that best. >> Yeah. Yeah. I'm I'm just here to help you if you need. >> Yeah. If if you're not doing anything um >> you guys two >> 219 >> once everyone is brought up to speed. The officers confer and agree that the next step will determine how the case ends. the teachers at the school, like one teacher thought that they smell of breath. Okay. >> And another little I talked to said she was unsteady on her feet at some point and they were concerned about her operating a vehicle. >> Yeah. >> And she, you know, wanted to leave on board. So that's when they flagged down officer pers over here. >> What did you do? >> Um I was going to do the DUI since I'm in phase three. I had >> Yeah, that's what I I told him. >> He can help us out. We'll cut them loose. Um, I need uh I'll ask the team to just kind of let you know. Um, we're like riding doubles today, so that's why there's so many people here. And then that other guy, he's just going to let me borrow some like tape or chalk or something. And then, um, we'll go do the exercises. Okay. And then he'll be out of here. So, don't feel like there's like a whole class and you're like, "What the heck?" >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I'm sorry. >> Yeah. No, it's all good. >> We're just going to walk right over here. >> Okay. Can you do me a favor and stand right here on the line with your feet together and your arms down by your side? >> Feet together. >> Okay. So, we're going to get started on these exercises. Um, do you feel comfortable in your shoes? >> I guess so. >> Okay. You have the option if you'd like to take them off or not. It's up to you. If you if you >> Whatever you're comfortable with, >> I'm just talking about your shoes here. Okay. But if you're okay with leaving your shoes on, then we'll get started. Okay. All right. So, if you need a favor, see that line? Put your left foot on it. Left foot at the beginning. Like, put your left foot on the line at the beginning of the line. There you go. All right. Now, you're going to put your right in front touching heel toe. >> All right. Now, you're going to stay in this position until I tell you to do so. Okay. >> Okay. >> So, watch me. I'm going to demonstrate how to do this. So standing there, you're going to start with your left foot on the line, right foot in front touching heel to toe. You're going to take nine heel totoe steps along the line. And when you're taking your nine steps, you're going to count. >> Now ready to move forward, the lead officer walks the suspect through what she'll need to do for the sobriety test. >> Okay, maybe I should do shoes off. >> Okay, we'll start we'll we'll start the over. So left foot on the line. >> Uhhuh. >> Right foot in front touching heel to toe. >> Do you understand that? All right, this is the starting position. >> We're going to stay right there until I finish giving the instructions. You're going to take nine heel totoe steps along the line, touching heel to toe with every step, and you're going to count every step out loud. >> Okay. >> If at any time you fall off the line, just come back on and pick up right where you left off. Okay. >> Okay. >> When you get to the very end or excuse me, so you're going to take nine heel toe steps. It's going to look like this. One, two, three. So on till nine. When you get to the very end, you're gonna leave your front foot on that line and you're gonna take a series of small steps. Okay? And turn around and you're going to put your foot >> Okay. Yeah, this is fine. I'm just trying to understand what I'm supposed to do >> cuz standing here like this is like not easy. >> Well, that's a part of the instructions. Okay. >> No, I understand that. >> Okay. >> But I'm trying to understand what you're giving me. Several instructions. >> That's the purpose of the exercise. >> Yeah. So, when you take that small steps, turn around and put your front foot back on the line. That's going to be step number one. And you're going to take nine heel to toe steps back down the line. >> Okay. >> All right. Do you have any questions? >> No. >> Do you understand the instructions? Wait till I tell you to start. Okay. So, no questions and you understand the instructions. >> Unless I do something wrong, please let me know. All right. You have to walk nine steps, turn around, walk nine steps back. >> Correct. >> Yes. And you also have to count out loud. >> All right. >> Wait till I tell you to start. Go back. >> Okay. >> All right. Get in that starting position. Left foot on the line. Right foot in front touching heel to toe. >> The suspect completes the first sobriety test without issue, but the officer informs her that there's still one more to go. >> All right, you may begin. 1. 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9. And now I turn. Right. Is that correct? >> Just keep going for what you think the instructions are. >> It was nine and then nine. So then it's one 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 >> Okay, so the next exercise is going to involve your feet, too. Are you still comfortable without your shoes on? >> I It depends on what the exercise is. >> So do me a favor. Stand together with your feet on the line. Hands down by your side. All right. And put your feet together. So the next exercise is going to be the one leg stand. So what you're going to do when I tell you to begin, you're going to raise a foot of your choice. So right or left approximately 6 in off the ground. And you're going to hold it until I tell you to stop. And while you're doing it, you're going to count out loud. 1 2 100 3 100 4 100 and so on. Okay? And see how my foot is up and it's flat. >> Mhm. >> So it's just what it's going to look like. Okay. >> Okay. >> So, pointed straight forward. Give me just a second to get this ready. And if you drop your foot at any time, you pick it back back pick it back up off the ground and continue where you left off. >> Okay. >> Do you understand? >> I do understand. >> Okay. >> She stumbles through the second test and it's clear to the officers that this won't end with a warning. >> And begin. 1 100,000 2 100 3 100 4 100 5 100 6 100 7 100 8 100 9 100 10 100 11 100 I'm sorry I told Sheriff that I just had a seizure on Friday, so I'm a little bit offense. Anyways, >> do you want to try it again? >> I will try it again. >> Okay, let me restart my clock. Do you need the instructions one more time? >> No. >> Okay. and may begin. >> 1 1,000 2 100 3 100 1 2 100 3 100 4 100 5 100 I'm hurting. >> Okay. 1 1 100 2 100 1 100 1 2 100 3 100 4 100 5 100 >> All right, you can stop, Miss Lauren. Okay, you can go and put your shoes back on. Okay, back. This really happen. Yes, ma'am. Unfortunately, >> for driving under the influence. Okay. >> What do I do? Well, we're going to get to that next step in just a second. Let me focus on this. >> Her pleas go unanswered as the officers point out that everything happening now stems from her own decisions. >> I didn't do anything. I didn't make you get in this car and drive. >> Am I gonna be put in like >> jail? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Why? >> Give me just a second. I'll get the AC running for you. >> All right, Miss Lauren. So, >> will you be willing to take a breath sample to determine the lo level level of alcohol in your breath? >> I will not do that. >> Okay. I am now requesting that you submit to a lawful test of your breath for the purpose of determining its alcohol content. If you refuse to take the test, I have requested of you, your driving privilege will be suspended for a period of one year for your first refusal or 18 months if your driving privilege has previously been suspended or if you have previously been fined. That is fine. >> Oh, let me finish. For refusing to submit to a lawful test of your breath, urine, or blood. Additionally, if you refuse to take the test I have requested of you and if your driving privilege has previously been suspended or if you have been previously fined for refusal to submit to a lawful test of your breath, blood, or urine, you will be committing a misdemeanor in addition to other penalties which can be imposed by law. Refusal to submit to the test I have requested is admissible into evidence in any criminal proceeding. I haven't done anything for 11 years. >> Okay. >> So, this was something that happened 11 years ago. So, and I did everything I was supposed to do. >> Talking about your So, do you have a previous DUI? >> Yes. And I went to jail for eight weekends to get it off of my record. >> Okay. But just understand that this is then or this is that's then and this is now. >> I understand. >> And if you refuse to take the breath test right now, >> then suspend my license, but please take this off of me. >> Your handcuffs are not coming off you. The moment she declines the breath test, it's clear to the officers that she's not being entirely truthful. You're >> going to take a ride to jail. >> Okay. >> Okay. You're going to drop a DUI. You You understand that, man? >> You You'll be there for 8 hours >> at minimum 8 hours. >> Minimum 8 hours. Okay. >> And your car >> That's not right. >> And your car is going to be impounded. >> That's not right. >> Okay. Well, that's how it goes. >> Can I call >> You can call somebody whenever you get to the jail. >> Can I don't have the phone number. They don't >> Your phone will go with you to the jail in your wallet. Okay. >> All right, Miss Lauren. I'm going to read you something else. It's uh your Miranda warning. Okay. So, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. You have the right to talk to a lawyer and have him or her present with you while you're being questioned. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent you. You can decide at any time to exercise these rights and not answer any questions or make any statements. Do you understand each of these rights as I've explained them to you? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Having these rights in mind, will you speak to me now? >> I'm literally about to die in this car. It's so hot. >> I have the AC on full blast. >> Not here. Not in this part of the >> I have the I have the prisoner compartment on full blast. I'll here. Let me check it again. >> Do you see my me sweating? >> Well, you were sweating before that because it's Florida and it's like 80° outside. Yep, it's on and on the coolest setting on the highest AC. >> I'm just letting you know it's on. It says is on. >> Now it is. It was >> Oh, was there something something must have been blocking it? Okay. Have you mind? Will you speak to me now? >> What do you want me to say? >> I'm going to ask you like a list of questions. >> Go ahead. >> Okay. She was ultimately charged with driving under the influence and to make matters worse, her license was suspended for more than a year. Number two, teacher thought she could get away with drunk driving. She didn't. On August 30th, 2025, officers pulled over a car after witnessing erratic driving. Here's what happened when the officers confronted the driver. >> Hello, ma'am. Yes, sir. My name's Ash with Albuquerque Police Department. Hi. >> Um, so my partner's kind of saying that you're driving pretty slow. Kind of a little back and forth and whatnot. Um, what's what's going on today? >> I'm sorry. I'm just really tired. I've had a rough I've had a rough week. I'm a school teacher and I work up in Santa Fe a couple times. >> Okay. So, are you coming from Santa Fe or what's going back to Santa Fe? I'm almost home. >> Almost. >> Gotcha. Dude, almost there. Almost there. What's um Do you live on the north side of of >> Southside? >> Oh, Southside. Southside. Okay, I got you. >> Indiana Street. >> Indiana Street. >> Almost. >> Okay, I got you. >> Sorry. >> Yeah. Yeah. No. >> Yeah. Sorry to hear that. Um >> so, really quick, ma'am. Okay. I do have to ask, how many alcohol beverages have you had today? >> I did have something at lunch. >> At lunch around what time would you say that was? That was about like 1:00. >> 1:00. What was it that you had? >> I had a red wine. >> Oh. Oh, sorry. What was that? >> I had some red wine. >> Red wine. Okay. Um, like a full glass. >> Yeah, like a glass. Yes. >> Glass. Okay. And was that up in Santa Fe or was that here in town? >> Up in Santa Fe. >> Up in Santa Fe. Okay. So, you had a wine for lunch up in Santa Fe. Did you have anything to eat as well? I had a sandwich, but I had that at 11:00, so maybe it didn't make me a little >> Oh, okay. Okay. I got you. I got you. Um, anything else in between from here and and lunch and that wine? >> No, >> no, >> nothing. No. I'm sorry. I'm just tired and I got you. >> Supposed to have a big party. >> How? The officers start off with a casual conversation and the driver claims she only had a single glass of wine and is already sober, but the officer picks up on a few red flags that prompt a closer look. >> How old are you? >> Yeah, >> I'm 60. >> 60? >> I wouldn't have guessed that. You look pretty. You look You look pretty good for six. I was thinking around 55 or something. >> Oh, really? >> Yeah. >> Whether whether or not that's good, huh? >> Only five years younger. >> Well, I think that looks pretty good, but 60 I wouldn't have got 60. one. Okay. I think I think life is pretty good. Do you mind putting your hands right here at the door? Okay. I'm just going to check your eyes really quick. Okay. >> Okay. >> Thank you, ma'am. Go stand right there. Oh, it's at my finger with your eyes and your eyes only. Keep your head body straight as you can. Okay, ma'am. Perfect. Thank you so much. Stay right there. Okay. All righty, ma'am. So, just from what I'm seeing, what I'm smelling, okay. And just from you telling me that you did have a a drink of wine earlier. Okay. And I can smell an an alcoholic beverage maybe from the vehicle at this time. So I just have to run you through some tests just to make sure you're all good to go. Okay. I know I know that it was been it's been a while. All right. And I know you're a little tired, but again, I just got to make sure the alcohol isn't a factor today. Okay. >> So yeah. Yeah. So if you don't mind just go ahead and step out of the vehicle for me, please. Do you have the vehicle ignition keys? I'll go and have that right now as well. Thank you. I just I just want Albuquerque is crazy. You never know if someone's gonna come over and walk up and then try to steal your car or something like that. Okay. >> Okay. And I'm wearing some high heels, so >> Yeah. No, no, that's okay. We'll go and walk over here. Okay. So, Mr. Rat, you go ahead and turn around and face me. >> Okay. Oh, you okay? >> Yeah. >> Um, so >> lot of wind. >> Yeah, it it's it's a little windy, but I I I don't anticipate it should have too much of a problem. Okay. It doesn't take long before the driver's story starts to fall apart and her inconsistent claims about alcohol prompt the officers to conduct a field sobriety test. >> So once again, so I just want to let you know, okay, I hold honesty to a very high degree. Okay, honesty for me goes a very long way. Okay, so I'm going to ask again, how many alcoholic beverages have you had today? I had the I have the the red wine and before that I had something. >> What was it? >> A little bit of um a little bit of vodka, I guess, in a a a what do you call it? A smash. >> Okay. Okay. How big was it? >> I didn't have a I had my pack on. >> Okay. >> That was I had that on my way and then uh >> Is that still in the vehicle? >> No. >> No. Okay. So, really quick, are you wearing contacts or anything? No. Okay, fantastic. So, for this test, it's going to be nice and easy. Okay. Don't call it tip my finger with your eyes and your eyes only. Don't move your head. >> Whenever you're ready, go and begin just as I instructed. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 >> Look at your foot. >> Keep looking at it. >> 1009. >> It becomes clear from the test results that the driver isn't as sober as she claimed. The officer follows up with a final check that could seal her fate. >> What's your highest level of education, ma'am? >> I have a master's degree. >> Master's degree in education. >> In music. >> Music. Very nice. So, you're a music teacher? >> I am a music. >> What kind of instruments do you teach or is it everything? >> Well, I'm a singer. >> You're a singer. Oh, very nice. Very nice. >> Teaching a Catholic school. >> That's awesome. That is awesome. Um, >> so yes, I teach um I teach different instruments, though. I teach a little piano. I teach a little guitar. Yeah. Wow. >> So, would you say that that takes a lot of um >> dexterity? >> Dexterity. Thank you. Thank you. Very nice. Yeah. And a lot of coordination, would you say? >> Yeah. For this test, I just want you to go ahead and count backwards. 52 to 37. Okay. Now, nice and easy. Okay. You have any questions? >> 52 to 37. >> Yeah. Yeah. You understand all the instructions? >> Okay. Whenever ready, go and begin. Okay. >> 52 51. 50 49 40 >> 47 46 47 46 45 >> 39 38 37 36 35 34 3 >> All right, ma'am. So, fortunately, at this time, I do have to place your notes. Okay. So, I do apologize, but just from everything that we've observed tonight, I do have to place your hands. Okay. Just go and face my vehicle. Just place your hands behind. >> What about my car? >> It is going to be toast. >> It's going to be towed. And we could go ahead and put on your shoes. >> Okay. >> Put my shoes on. >> Yeah. Over here. >> The officers have seen enough. As they move to take her in, the driver's upbeat attitude quickly turns into frustration. Come on. I'm a sc Catholic school teacher. How long will I be under arrest? >> You'll just You'll probably just be in for tonight and you'll be out in the morning. >> Okay. So, go and stay right there. Hold on. >> Hold on. I just got to jam behind your back. It's okay. Just go put your hands back like you're praying. Okay. >> Like you're praying behind you. Thank you. >> Do you need anything from your vehicle? Your phone, wallet, anything like that? >> I need my purse. >> So, we can't take your purse. Okay. Um, >> get my phone. >> Yes, we can definitely get your phone. >> Can't you just pass me? I'm not I'm supposed to move. >> Oh. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I got one right now. >> Hey, then I'll see you down there, partner. >> Change just pass. >> All right, brother. 48. >> I'm so close to home. >> Bye. >> All righty, ma'am. So, just really quick, can you go and open your mouth? Uh, >> maybe. >> Yes. Thank you. Lift up your toe. Thank you. Okay. >> Hi. What's that about? >> I just got to make sure you don't have anything in your mouth. >> In the end, the driver was charged with aggravated DWI. Number one, what happens when a high school teacher gets pulled over for drunk driving. While out on patrol on January 25th, 2025, officers observed a vehicle drifting across multiple lanes. Here's what unfolded when they confronted the driver. Hello. >> Good. How you doing, sir? Hey, man. So, I'm Deputy Sauce with the Grant County Sheriff's Office. Um, the reason for the stop today is because I noticed that um coming into town, you're kind of balancing side to side in in your lane, hitting hitting both sides of the the median lane and then the fog line. >> Okay. Sorry about that. >> It's all good, man. So, um where you headed to today, man? I went the wrong direction and then back down. >> Okay. >> I'm going home. >> Going home. Okay. Where you Where you coming from, man? >> From Punostos. >> Oh, okay. Cool, man. What were you doing out there, brother? >> Just hanging out. >> Just hanging out. >> Yes, sir. >> Cool. Cool, man. You live in uh Farmington originally or you live here? >> Originally, but I live in Silver Nails. >> You live in Silver. Oh, cool. What brought you out here? >> Work. >> Work. Cool. What do you do? I teach at the high school. Oh, >> okay. Very cool. Um, do you have your insurance and your registration as well? See, thank you, sir. All right. Just hang tight for one second. Okay. The man says he was only having trouble navigating his way home. The officer clarifies that regardless, some steps need to be taken. Unfortunately, the driver complies without hesitation. >> Hey, sir. So, um, everything on your registration and insurance comes back good. Um, >> I was just trying to find my way. >> Yeah. So, the thing is, so I noticed too that um whenever you're on 180 back there, uh you kind of were driving on the dirt road and then you try to turn into >> I was totally trying to >> just lost. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I was on the phone and trying to >> Okay. >> I put my address back in. I was like, I'm going the wrong direction. >> Okay. Yeah. You're just unfamiliar with >> where I was going and I was pinching it in. Sorry, bro. >> You're good, man. You're good. So, do you feel like um the reason why you're all all over the road was because of your phone? Yeah. >> Okay. >> Absolutely. >> So, since I observed that, man, and would I be able to would you be willing to do field sobriety test >> or would I be able to check your eyes? >> Sure. >> Yeah. Um, so the reason for this field sobriety test is just so >> I'm just trying to get home, bro. >> Yeah, I understand. I understand you're trying to get home. >> I was going the wrong direction. >> I know. I know. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I was like, oh, based on your >> This does not look familiar. >> Yeah. But just based on the driving behavior, man, I just want to make sure that you're okay to operate the vehicle. >> Yeah. >> Make sense? >> Yes, sir. >> All right, man. So, if you wouldn't mind if you could just step out of the vehicle for me. >> Um, before we get started, man, do you have any weapons on you or anything like that? >> No. >> Pocket knife, handgun, nothing. Phone. Okay, cool. Can I do a quick pat down on you real fast? >> All right, cool. So, if you wouldn't mind, just turn around and then just put your hands on the vehicle real quick. Just yeah, I just noticed you have a puffy jacket, so I just wanted to just make sure. >> I'm I'm sorry for everything I was >> You're good, brother. >> I'm literally trying to find my way home. >> All right, man. Um, if you wouldn't mind, do you want to come over here real quick? Um, can you just stand right there at the front side of my bumper, and I'm going to turn the lights so that way they're not blurring in your in your eyes. Despite the circumstances, the sobriety test goes smoothly with no signs of tension between the officer and the driver. >> 32 central. >> I'm going to be 106. >> All right, man. So, um, like I said, I'm doing this just based on the driving behavior that I observed. Okay? I just want to make sure that you're good to drive. Um, if I feel like you are okay to drive, then you'll be good to go. Um, I'm just going to ask you one quick question. Have you had anything to drink tonight? >> No. Okay. Um, can I ask I'm going to ask you too, do you have do you wear contacts? >> Yes, sir. >> You do? Do you have them in right now? >> No. >> No. Okay. Are you required to have them in while driving? Do you have any restrictions or anything like that? No. Okay. Um, can I get you to remove your hat? Okay, cool. Given that you're a taller dude, um, >> sorry, man. Is it okay right there? All right. Given that you're a taller dude, I'm going to stand right here on this curb. It'll make it easier for both you and I. So, if you wouldn't, man, mind just standing right in front of me. Um, get your hands out of your pocket. put them down to your side, feet together for me. And then during this test, what I need you to do is just look at the tip of my finger with your eyes and your eyes only. Um throughout the duration of this, um do not move your head. Okay? Just make sure you focus on the tip of my finger with your eyes. Okay, keep going, man. Keep looking at my eyes. Or at my fingertip. I'm sorry. >> I said that while looking at your eyes. The exchange is friendly enough that they even share a laugh. But things aren't over yet. The officer prepares the next round of testing. All right, man. Okay. Um, so just after observing like your eyes, they seem a little bit just glossy. They don't seem like doesn't seem like you've had anything to me. Um, if you wouldn't mind, can we just can I test your balance real quick and see if you're good? >> Okay, cool, man. >> You got this hat or >> um you can just leave it there. It would make it a little bit easier. So, if what you could do for me, man, is So, I'm going to demonstrate it for you and then you just follow after me. Okay. >> So, what I need you to do right now is stand with your put your left foot forward. Imagine imaginary line coming out the left out of your left toe. >> Yeah. More room. If you can you stand right here, please. >> Yeah. >> Just right here. >> All right, man. So, so if you could imagine a imaginary line, straight line coming out of the left front of your toe. Go ahead and put your right foot on that line in a heel to toe fashion just like this. You go ahead and do that now. And then try to make sure that it's heel to toe like that. Okay. And then >> like in a straight line. >> Yeah. So don't start yet. So what I need you to do is just stand in this position and remain in this position. Okay. So you can stand like this now and then keep your hands down to your side. All right. So just remain in that position and then I'm going to instruct just and tell you how to do it and then after I'm done instructing it to you, then you'll be able to do it. Okay. >> All right. So, what you're going to do is you're going to take nine heel totoe steps. Uh, for the demonstration, I'm going to do three, but you're going to do nine. Does that make sense? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. With each step that you take, you need to take each heel totoe step, keep looking down at your feet and count with every step one, two, three, and so forth. Make sense? >> It's going to look like this. All right, ma'am. The officer carefully walks the driver through the next test, but when it's time to perform, the driver doesn't handle it nearly as well as the first. >> One, two, three. I'm doing three. You're going to do nine. >> Cool. And then whenever you get to your ninth step, what I need you to do is take a series of small steps, leaving your left foot planted, and put yourself back on that line. and then count backward back to the count nine steps back the opposite direction. Okay. So, it's going to go one, two, three. I'm doing three. You're going to do nine. Does that make sense? >> All right. So, hold on one second, man. >> So, you got to do it whenever I tell you to start. Okay. >> So, we'll do that again. Go ahead and stand in your Yes, sir. >> Go ahead. Go ahead and start. Okay. man. Okay. For the next test, what I need you to do is stand with your feet together and your hands onto your side again. And then using whatever leg of your choosing. So for this instance, I'm going to use my right leg, but you could use whichever leg you want. Okay? What I need you to do is just pick up your foot, point it outward approximately 6 in off the ground. So approximately like a can, like a soda can. And I need you to hold it out and count 1 1 2 100 3 100 4 100. All while looking at the tip of your toe. Count out loudly. Okay? And start whenever I tell you to start. Okay? >> So, don't start. >> Until he tells you >> until I tell you to stop. It's until I tell you to stop. Okay? So, it's going to look like that. 1 1,00 2 1,00 3 100. >> Okay? Hold on one second. Okay? Cuz I didn't say start. So, >> the final part of the test exposes just how offbalance the driver really is, casting serious doubt on his earlier claims. Hold on one second. Just give me a give me a second here. Okay, sir. You may begin. Keep going, sir, until I tell you to stop. You go and stop, sir. All right, man. Just hang tight right here. Just few seconds. Okay. Hey man, real quick. >> So, just because the height disparity, you're a lot taller than me. I'm going to see if he could run the the nestagmus on you real quick. We're just going to do that one one more one more time. Okay. Okay. Do me a favor. Stand right here. [snorts] We want you together. Okay. Don't move your feet from that position. I want you to put your hand at your sides. Go grab your pockets. Put your hand in your pockets. Okay. >> So, let's just put my pen. I'm going to refer to it as a Right. What I want you to do, not holding your head. I want you to follow. >> To make sure the test results are valid, the officer has the driver repeat one of them due to their significant height difference. 47. >> Okay. All right, sir. Okay. So, right now, you're going to be placed under arrest, okay, for operating a motor vehicle under the influence. So, could I get you to put your hands behind your back, please, sir? All right. All right, sir. Do you have um anybody that could come pick up the vehicle for you? Just keep your hand right here. Okay. >> No, you're not going to be >> good. >> It seemed like the driver was in the clear until the results of the repeated test suggested otherwise. Do you have nobody to come pick up the vehicle? >> All right, man. Um, real quick, do you have anything that could poke me, hurt me, or anything like that in your pockets? Nothing. >> Okay. All right. Just your keys in here. >> Phone, keys, wallet. >> Phone, keys, wallet. Okay. Can I get you to spread your legs for me? >> I just want >> I know, man. Fortunately, um you're not going to be able to make it today. Okay. All right, man. If you could step back over here with me and then um do you want I noticed that. Go around this way, bro. Keep keep walking. Keep going. One more door. One more door over. Can I have you sitting here, please? Please. I can't, man. You know, I can't look away for I can't look away whenever it comes to this. Okay. I know, man. >> Oh, what's going on, brother? >> Do you want your phone from the vehicle? >> I'm sorry, man. Now seated in the back of the cruiser, the suspect realizes he won't be heading home. His night ends at the station. >> Um, do you want me to get the phone from your vehicle >> or do you want me to leave it in there? >> Going to do >> um that way if you need a phone number to call at the jail or anything like that. >> I think he has my phone. >> Okay. Do you want it or do you want us to leave it in the vehicle? I guess grab it. I grab it for you. >> I have no other numbers. >> Okay. >> It's just all >> Okay. >> Well, I'll grab your phone for you. Okay. And do you want your wallet with you or do you want it in the vehicle? >> It's on me. I don't know. >> You want it on you? Okay. I'm going to grab your wallet and your phone. That way I could take that with you. That way you can take it to the jail with you. Okay. And then what we'll do from there, >> I'm sorry, sir. You know, I'm I I I really can't help you out, man. I have no discretion when it comes to this, okay? I'm sorry. I'm sorry, man. Um, as far as your vehicle, okay, your vehicle is probably going to be towed and I'll let you know what uh tow company is going to take it. Okay? Unless you have a friend or something that could come pick it up. >> Um, if you they would have to be able to get here pretty quick. That's the only thing >> I can make a text. I could >> you Well, this is the thing, man. Your vehicles in the roadway, they would have to like come like within 15 minutes. >> I know, man. All right, brother. Watch your leg. Okay. >> Watch your leg, man. In the end, the officers charged the driver with DWI. What do you think? Did they get what they deserved? Let me know in the comments and I'll catch you in the next
