Here are five cases when shoplifters act innocent, but cameras don't lie. Number five. When getting caught isn't enough and the suspect keeps making the situation worse. In our first case, officers were dispatched to a Home Depot after an alleged theft. According to reports, the suspect attempted to steal two lawnmowers and left the scene. We don't make, you know, stupid decisions, get caught, and then try to, you know, tip us some information to get out of the stupidity that we did. I'm not trying to tip you off. You walked in with the hat and you're telling me you weren't wearing a hat. Sure. Sure it was on me. And you expect me to As the investigation continues, the suspect dives into more detailed descriptions of his group's alleged MO. With that, the officers give him a chance to speak for himself. Do you have a phone on you? Did you try to call him to come pick you up? I called him from the um from the store. Called your buddy to come pick you up from the store? What's your buddy's name? Edward Butts. Edward Butts? Okay. He has a statement that he's only probably not telling the truth. So the male that you got out of the car with, we stopped him. And he is at the economy lodge. He tried to dispose of it even though that's a felony. Dragging it in his underwear. He had property. All right. Um see you later. Um prior theft? Yes. I don't know about that, but I do know they changed the um days for retail theft. So, instead of 30 days, it's now 120. And if you If he's been caught stealing within the last 120 days, between two different locations. You look nice, dude. Play your number for previous convictions. Um I I don't think there's a timeline for previous conviction. As long as they're previously convicted. Same thing as a battery, basically. Same thing as a battery. And by conviction, it can be same thing as uh just an arrest. As they're taking the suspect away, the officers further discuss with one another. The suspect also casually reveals something that puts him in a tougher spot. Of course, I double-check everything on the website, so Well, that could be skeptical of this. If it is it if they did previous theft, The last time was Well, I was arrested Say that again? By conviction, there's a definition for conviction there on the state central website, and that's just any So, you go by Willie at all? Cuz I've I've gone through hiccups with that. Write that Write that down real real quick. I got it. We good. Cadarius. Cadarius. Cadarius, spell your first name. Spell it slowly and understandably, okay? C a d d e u s. What's your middle initial? What's your last name? Date of birth? You're not lying. You wouldn't There's no reason to go by Willie. So, is your name Willie or Cadarius? Your name is Willie. So, why'd they So, why'd they say Cadarius? I was. You got So, so you got warrants, right? Let's Let's confirm his warrants real quick before we before we let him go. Put him in car, though. Him? Not yet. You know not that I'm not that I'm aware Huh? I don't know if this guy He doesn't >> Yeah, yeah, that's why I mean Cadarius. I mean, look at your Does that mean he's a After the whole incident, the man was charged with grand theft, trespassing, providing false information to law enforcement, and violation of probation. Well, the Aldi's called us about uh stealing in Aldi's. >> I have no idea about that, bro. >> Okay. Do you have anything from Aldi's in your backpack? Do you have any groceries in there from Aldi's? >> I do not. You do not? Okay. Um do you have an ID on you? I don't, but I'll give you my name and my social security number. Okay. Um cuz they're going to want you barred from there. Where'd the female go? >> at all. I don't Well, you know what I mean? They're private business, so >> outside, you know what I mean? I was on the phone, bro. Well, you know, you was with her. You're guilty by association, I guess, right? Ah, man, that sucks, man. I'm sorry. I didn't know she was doing that. Where Where'd she go? I I don't know. She said, "Follow me." and then she disappeared. I don't I came around the corner. Like I said, I'm on the phone and I wasn't paying attention. >> Yeah. What's your name, man? Uh Tommy. Uh what's the girl's name? Uh I think her name is uh either Leah or Cam. She goes by a couple different names. >> I [clears throat] know, but she goes by a couple different names. What do you call her? Uh I call her Cam. You call her Cam? Yeah. Okay. She's got to be around here somewhere. I mean, sure she's probably in one of these stores, man. >> Yeah, yeah. She's around here somewhere. >> I didn't see which one she went in. Like I said, I'm on the phone. >> Yeah. Yeah, you can see right here. My girlfriend's on the phone right here. Uh let me bring her camera right here. There we go. Come on down here. It isn't long before a woman who fits [music] the description from the original call shows up and approaches the man. The officer steps in right away to confront her about the alleged shoplifting. This is Maura Hand. How's it going? Good? Hi. I'm doing better. Yeah. Uh stuff from Aldi's. I already I ran out trying to catch the bus. I already handed it back to them. >> Already what? To get back in there to them. I handed it back to them. Okay, cuz they didn't tell me you gave it back to them. I did. I went straight back in there and gave it back to them. Okay. Yeah, I'm on the phone. I'm not saying you're not on the phone, but No. >> Okay. Do you have any groceries in your bag there? >> No. What did you have? Um it was like some honey buns, uh some meat things, um Oreos, um hot chocolate spoon. Yeah. Um maybe that's it. Okay. Uh let me make sure that they got their stuff back or whatever. Yeah, I mean And they they I believe they just want both of you barred, okay? >> Okay, yeah, the bus ran. I didn't know they weren't going to let us in there because he had what he had. You know what I mean? You know, it's >> know. Obviously. Yeah. Spear on me, knife. And they wouldn't let me on and I had to Spear? Yeah. Oh, okay. Yeah, but I took it straight I had to put my bag in and he had me put it up like I was Yeah. I took it straight back in there to them. >> Okay. Will you wait here with her with him for a second and I'm going to go run into Aldi's for just a split second and make sure Huh? Here's the driver. They're both different, right? He's got a worn out at pick up and I don't think she has anything. Hers uh Jackson is out of pick up. To my knowledge. With surveillance footage and the stolen items found in her bags, officers have more than enough to make an arrest. But even without that, she already has outstanding warrants in two different states. May I drop your stuff? You have a warrant for your arrest. She's got one out of out of pick up, too. Okay, she had one at Jackson. All right, come on. I [clears throat] know you had one. When did that come out? It was right there. No, I mean I I like wonder when our warrant came out. I usually don't I'm usually up on that list. Yeah, always on that list. Maybe come out today or something. May I have anything illegal on you, any kind of weapons like that? Will you wait here for a second? I'm going to talk to him. You been in trouble recently? At least here locally? Just a probation violation for not reporting. Okay. Last check it was February. Come on, February. It's almost February. You're slacking. Yeah. What's it for? Uh it's a probation. You're on probation. Then then you're right, probation violation warrant. I'll be right back, old house. Just have a seat for me. Anything illegal in the bags up there? What's your plan from uh from this point on? I'm heading that way. Yeah, I'm going to uh First Capital Recovery. Okay. I'm going to rehab today. You going to rehab today? 6:00. Well, that's good. Well, let's see here. You got about an hour and 5 minutes. Yeah, hopefully I can make it. I'm supposed to be on the bus, but He got mad at me. He He said he was going to call the police. He's had me all day, man. What now? Yeah, yeah, because of the knife in my bag, he's been He's been at me all all day. It's the third time he told me I couldn't get on the bus, man. Yeah, I mean I don't really I don't blame them cuz they have a big sign that says no weapons. Yeah, but I'm not I don't have I have nowhere to put it. You know what I mean? Like I got to Well, I get rules are rules, man. They don't have to give you a ride, I guess. Are you guys still missing anything or she give the stuff back or what? Yeah. Yes what? Yes, she gave it back or >> Yes, she gave it back. Okay, all right. She's arrested anyways, so she had a warrant. Um you guys want both of them trespassed or one of them or Both of them trespassed? In a last-ditch effort, the woman returned the stolen items when she knew police were coming. Still, both stores decided to trespass them from their premises, and it's hard to argue with that decision. So it was uh Kimberly um aka also Meadows, and then the male was Tommy Okay. Okay. Okay. So. Thank you. >> We We've got them both. They'll Let me get um your information for the report. Is Okay. All right, she gave everything back barred from the old Aldi's. Um what she want to do with his belongings? She want to She want to leave them with him? I would rather it go with us anyway. You know what I mean? Like I got to go and I'm not responsible for anything. I'm pretty it could it could come back on us as a liability issue, you know what I mean? He's barred. Yeah, he's barred, yep. They don't want you back at the Aldi. All right, man. I'm never going in there anyway. Well, you ain't got nothing to worry about then. Okay. Yep, thank you. Yeah, he's good to go. I haven't gone through anything yet. There's some other like food items on the top of the bag. They're like ice cream and something else, but All right, it's a pain in the ass, but I'd rather >> anybody we can she got anybody we can leave the stuff with? We can ask her. We can ask her. You got anybody that'll take some of this stuff at all or No. Outstanding. You originally from here? No, she's been here for a little while, though. All right, well, we're going to move up to uh old car 18. The jail doesn't keep uh bags and stuff anymore. What's up? Hold on, hold on. Relax. You got your stuff turned. Little tight. No, she's twisted or something right now. Turn your wrists together like you're praying. There you go. That should be better. Yeah. Hold on, hold on, hold on. She's got double locked them. Yeah, but keep moving and when you sit back, they'll just go tighter on you. Won't be able to uh guarantee you that when you get your stuff you're going to have ice cream. Can you throw that Can we throw that away like right now? Yeah. The ice cream's up there. Yeah, I'm doing it. Sorry. Coffee. This time she's not resisting, clearly in pain and far more cooperative than during her last run-in with these same officers for the exact same issue. Given her condition, they're willing to show a little leniency. I don't know what kind of ice cream you got. It's coffee Oh, coffee ice cream? I don't like that kind. Really? So So we need to have like cookies and cream or something like that. I get like a snack. I'm going to I'm going to leave you a couple in front. Okay. You didn't like give me a fake name this time, although I knew it cuz I'm pretty sure you've done that to me once before. Mhm. Big yeah. That's how I remember. Yeah. I don't remember what you gave me the last time. Magnets? I don't know what these things Little magnets. Do we need these? >> no. Tommy said he didn't even know you. Well, I mean you told me your name. You told me your name was Kim and I was thinking like Kim Kim Kim that I seen you walk out of Kimble. Yeah, but no, he told me he didn't know you. So I don't even know you like that. Mhm. He said he didn't even know So he So he does know you like that? That's what you're saying? Yeah. Uh anything like that in here? Needles, nothing like that? The jail won't take this stuff. So we had to put all of it in our property room. So that means when you get out, you have to come to us and get your stuff. They don't keep their They don't keep bags anymore. They want to inconvenience us. It is literally coffee, it says. Yeah. That That is a thing. I've never heard of it. What you got there? Yeah, they just say that it's nice. Um let's see here. What is this? Four-in-one stylus pen. Let's put it all Put Put all everything I'm just putting everything in this bag. And then I'll put it in your like pockets or something. You go through that like Well, I could. I don't know what you mean. Let's make sure nothing's going to blow up in the uh Golly. Probably get rid of the chips, too. Eat all the Doritos. Some clothing. I don't know if you want to dive into that or not. No. Some Gabe's clothing. Gabe's? Yeah, they got the got the tags on it. Got some shoes. Inside her bags, the officers spot multiple items still with tags, prompting them to ask the woman if the items were stolen. However, whether she'll admit it is anyone's guess. Oh, yeah. It's all all good. Nice nice new stuff. >> You want to do a good deed and tell me where all this stuff comes from? I'm pretty sure you didn't buy it all. And I can take it back to them. Huh? I bought it half price off somebody. >> Oh, you did buy it? Off off some off of a person. Off another person? Yeah. Okay. All this all got tags and stuff on it, you know what I mean? >> Cuz I don't have anything. I'm going out and people keep stealing everything. >> Yeah. Lots of sunglasses, too. I don't have any sunglasses on now. How much it cost for all this stuff? Cost me 125. Huh. I would have figured it'd be a little bit more than that. Half price. How much the bag cost? Or I guess bags. They're half price. That wasn't the question. I don't know. Half I don't know what it is. What So it'd be 250? Huh? Well, this one's just $7.99. It's not on sale. No, she bought it on sale from somebody else. Oh. So my What is this thing? It was It's a scratchy. Somebody else had it and she bought them. Somebody else stole them and she bought them from them. Flip tray. TJ Maxx. >> TJ Maxx. All right, that's probably where actually where they came from, except the Gabe's stuff. but You want to dive down in it or what? No. TJ Maxx again. Yours is not that way. When did you buy this? That's what I would I come up here and I bought it. Who'd you meet? I can't tell you that. Oh, okay. With questions still unanswered, officers head to the nearest TJ Maxx to confirm whether any recent shoplifting reports match the woman they just detained. Hello. How are you? Uh super weird question. >> Uh-huh. Do you know if you had any kind of thievery going on with a female that's probably about all red long sleeve shirt like a hoodie and then black shorts. She's got a whole bunch of TJ Maxx stuff. Stuff. Francy? Hey Francy, could you come up front real quick? Just get Paul, manager. Yeah, probably too, but I don't know if you guys She'll She'll definitely know. She watches them like a hawk. Yeah. Did the bag come from there, too? Did you buy the bag, too? It looks pretty new, also. Did it all come like a kit? Huh? I bought it all in whole. Like the bag and all? Yeah. Yeah. That's what I'm saying, the bag looks new to me, too. Hello. Hi. Here quick. Um weird question, but we have a female has a warrant got arrested. Anyway, she had a whole bunch of Gabe stuff and TJ Maxx stuff. Oh, she did? Yeah, but She's probably about like yay tall, red hoodie and black shorts. Yeah, I don't know when she was in the store, but she claims that she got everything and everything was half off. I'm like, that's that's flag on the field. That is >> Half off? Yeah, that that is incorrect, so Okay. Uh but if [snorts] you want, we can gather the items cuz we haven't found a receipt for the stuff. We can turn them to you or So, I need to get like a receipt showing how much. That would be great. Yeah. Um yeah, it sounds like the other officer has everything separated, so I'll go grab that, bring it in. Are you guys in the business of pursuing charges or just want to Um so that I would have to See if she wants to I'm not giving you that bag of TJ Maxx stuff. That entire bag of stuff is stolen. I know it, you know it. Whether you bought it for 125 bucks or not, the entire thing is stolen. The entire bag. TJ Maxx staff confirmed the theft and security footage seals the case. The officers now have everything they need and they don't hesitate to lay out what's ahead. You have paying a price for something. You have one. You know what that's also called? Receiving stolen property. I'm not giving you that stuff. Right? I'm not giving you that stuff. So, it's all going to go back to them. I'm not going to charge you for that, but it's going back to them. It's obviously stolen. It's a huge problem up here is people stealing. So. Yeah, if if they can bring in the merchandise, I can do like a fake receipt. Okay. Sorry, old bud. No, no, you're good. We're just going to work with me me and um Kim here group, we're going to get this entire bag back. That the bag and everything >> and everything's brand new. I mean, she under I mean, there is yeah, there used to be a tag. >> Well, oh. Yeah, she didn't she didn't steal it, but she knows that the purpose of buying a half price is the fact that it is stolen. Yeah, also they said they don't have They're already discount stores, so they don't do half price. No, no, no, no, no. No, it's half price because it was taken. I thought it was a five finger discount. Well, that's the same thing, but that's why it's half price. >> it's half price, you would pay something. She paid 125. All right. Well, we'll return it. They don't really know if they They have to make some calls. >> I don't really care. I mean, it may just like how you know with the mandates and everything and even though we may be not be able to take her in handcuffs, we still can cite her even just for the trespass on your property. Um that's the big thing. I'm glad we got that taken care of because the fact that she's continuing to come back >> Yeah. Yeah, and being a problem. In the end, the woman was cited with theft. Most of these things they paid for cuz she was doing it. I've seen them scan it. Okay. Hi. That condensed milk. Mhm. She got them placed randomly throughout the cart. >> Right. It just made the made the receipt longer. Right. Come to the front counter with all the food and the drinks. Mhm. >> [laughter] >> Make you look like you got a receipt this long. They had them too.
