It's not always strangers kids who need saving from. Sometimes it's the very people meant to protect them. Here are five cases when hero cops rescue kids from evil parents. Number five, police couldn't believe what this mom was thinking. On May 29th, 2025, officers responded to reports of a woman found sleeping in her car in the middle of the roadway with a baby still in the vehicle. One look at the scene was enough to show how risky this really was. >> Hey, what's up, man? How you doing? >> Good. >> Hello. >> How you doing? >> Good. Who's that? >> My daughter. Does she look like me? >> No. >> I just pulled her out of the back of that car. >> Okay. >> So, really quick, we were coming to take this turn here. >> Okay. >> She was asleep and we passed out in the car with her feet out the window. Her flash >> her feet out the window. Yeah, her feet were up out of the window. He's like, "Are you okay? Are you okay?" And she wasn't waking up. So, we pulled the car and he went and got the baby crying and she completely out of it. So, he took the baby out feeding the baby, but um yeah, she's definitely not. It's very You could take it from here, but we didn't want to be >> baby's a week old. Got it. >> Her baby. >> Yeah. >> She was passed out. We got to get something. >> You have your ID with you? >> No, I don't. >> You don't have any ID with you? So, you're driving without ID? >> Yeah, I am. >> Okay, awesome. What's your name? Do you need fire rescue? >> It's okay. You might want to do it back to suck on. >> Yeah. >> Sounded her feet out the window. >> You all right? >> What's going on? Where are you coming from? >> Where were you at before? Here. >> Just like that, man. Let's hang out the window. Hello. Where were you at before? Here. >> Right. I don't know what you no what you got going on. They make several attempts to speak with a woman and gauge how aware she is, but her slurred responses and behavior make it obvious she's heavily impaired. >> Are you serious? >> Are you serious? >> Oh my god. >> Just go over there, sir. >> I know. Stop playing with me. Stop playing with me. >> Where did you say you were before here? >> I ain't saying nothing. >> Where are you coming back from? >> I ain't coming back from nothing. >> Well, you're driving somewhere. >> So, trying to figure out where you were before here. >> All right. >> So, where were you? I don't know. >> You don't know where you were? >> I don't know. >> You at a restaurant, beach. >> A week old. >> You thought >> we thought about what? Where were you before here? How did you get here? Where do you What city do you live in? Hello. >> You good? >> I'm great. What's wrong? >> Where do you live? >> What city do you live in? >> Where do you live? >> She's not really talking much. Where were you before here? >> The bar restaurant. >> Do you know where you were? >> Do you know where you're at? >> Where are you? >> Where are you right now? >> At this point, the officers know she's in no condition to care for a baby. They start making calls to find someone responsible to take the child [music] or prepare to loop in the proper authorities. >> This is over. >> All right. And what you going to do? >> What you going to do? >> Relax. You're going to go in handcuffs. >> Okay. Sit down. >> Put me in handcuffs. Please put me in handcuffs. Please put me in handcuffs. >> Oh my god. Look at that. Look at that. >> I have no idea. >> Oh, but you don't. [snorts] >> It's probably going to be a DCF hauler though. >> Oh, for sure. >> Cuz we have no idea whose baby this is or anything. What you going to do? >> So stupid. >> You so dumb. Yay. You dumb. Oh my god. >> Any family members? >> We have no idea. We don't even know her name. >> Where's your phone? and I can give you >> Okay, we need someone to come get your baby. Where's your phone? >> Back here in the back seat. >> Where's your cell phone? >> The pink phone in the back. Yours. >> Can you grab your phone behind the seat? Who can we call a family member? >> We need to call a family member for your baby. >> All right. Okay. >> Hey, where's your cell phone? a phone number. You grab your phone in the back. It's uh a pink phone behind you. You grab your phone behind you. There's a pink phone right behind you. Get it back. >> The officers keep trying, but with her current state, they're simply not getting anywhere. >> All right, let's do it. And when you know what phone number it is, your mom's phone number, family number. >> Hello. I'm asking you a question. Who did we call? We're going to put it back in the car seat. Sit down. Sit down seat. >> Sit down in the car. All right. Hey, wait. I will I will block you. Sit down for >> Get in the car. Get yourself. >> Almost an hour later, the woman's cousin arrives to pick up the baby. The officer walks her through what happened and it's clear she has a much steadier hand than the suspect. >> So, she was driving with the baby parked here kind of where that fire truck is in this lane. Car um feet were out the window passed out. Baby's in the back seat crying, screaming. Uh random couple, older couple going to dinner, stop and see her. They're like, "Hey, like she looks like she needs help." So, they stop, they see the her passed out, the baby's crying and everything. So, we get the call, we get here, uh, take the baby out, hold it, you know, bottle feet and everything. She's severely intoxicated. Can't answer any questions like, "Hey, like, you know, where are you coming from? You know, where do you live and all that?" Um, we have her sitting in the car because I don't want her running around the road on the highway when it's intoxicating. She is um she tried to get >> a lot of history alcohol. >> Okay. >> History. >> So she started to try to get out of the car and I was like, "No, no, no. Like just sit here like you're safe in the car. The road's blocked. I don't want you running around." She kicked one of our other officers. At that point, we take her out of the car, put her in handcuffs. She's still kicking. Try to bite another officer when we're putting her in the back of the car. She's going to go to jail. We're driving under the influence. Battery and law enforcement option, everything. Obviously, the baby is what, a week old or so. So, it's either goes with a friend or family member that she feels comfortable with it going. She said that she did feel comfortable with the baby going with you, or it goes to the state of Florida. >> At this point, the officers step back, leaving the cousin to talk with the suspect and sort out the last details before they go. >> It's your cousin here. You okay with your child going with her with your cousin? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> I love you. >> When was he born? >> When was he born? >> What's the baby's date of birth? Emily, you have to help me so I can help you. Mommy. >> Okay. So, >> today is June 29th. So, how when was your baby born? >> On the 8th. >> June 8th. >> Why would you do this for me? >> The night ends with her on the way to the station facing charges for DUI, battery on an officer, child neglect, driving on a permanently revoked license, and resisting an officer with violence. Number [music] four, she left the kids in the car to go shopping. Police were already waiting. On October 29th, 2024, officers were called to a Costco after reports that a mother left two children alone in a vehicle on a hot day while she went shopping. Here's what happened when they confronted her. >> How are you? >> Good. What's going on? >> I was just doing a quick return and I >> I know. Uh is there kids in the car? Never. >> Okay. Is the car on? It was on. >> What do you mean it was on? >> Cuz I got the automatic start and it just shut off honestly. >> Okay. Do you have your ID on you? >> Sure. >> When you're ready any problems. >> Okay. Are the kids okay? We just honestly I just had to say goodbye to my grandpa. He's going to I just wanted to run in really quick. I'm not trying to make excuses. They're fine. This was not an easy morning for me. >> Okay. Can you talk to them? I'll talk to them. >> Talk to them. >> Hi. How are you? >> Hi. Good. >> Is the power on? If not, can you hit the remote start on your phone again at least so the kids have some air conditioning? >> Hi. Hi. I was just telling him I just had to say goodbye to my grandpa. He's going on. I just wanted to run in really quick. I just had a quick return. I wasn't I'm not trying to do anything wrong. >> Right. But you couldn't bring your kids in. >> I I guess I chose not to. I'm not I'm not making excuses. I'm just like I just wanted to just do this really quick. >> Right. But you have children. It's a responsibility. You're supposed to bring them in you. That's endangering the life of children. >> They're fine. Well, I get that you think that they're fine, but you left them in a car. It's also almost 80° today. >> I'm sorry. I mean, you don't know how long the return line was going to be, right? >> Face to face, the female officer explains the gravity of what happened and why it isn't excusable. The mother listens, but her attitude suggests she still believes an apology will clean it all up. >> Like it could have been 15 minutes, it could have been 5 minutes, could have been half hour. I mean, you don't know how long the line is, right? >> I mean, yeah, you have to take care of your children. >> And he already got your information. Okay. Did he get your children's names? She has plenty of room to back up. I'll make sure people don't need you. >> All right, you're good, man. Did you get the children's info, too, or just hers? >> Okay. All right, perfect. Hang on for me one second. Um, if you just want to wait in your car, don't leave. Um, I have to find out. We're just giving you a ticket and we're arresting you. So, if we're going to arrest you, is there somebody that can help pick up your children? No, I'm not joking around about this. You left two infant children in a car. So, I'm going to find out if we're just going to give you a notice to appear to go to court or if I have to actually physically take you in. We will be notifying DCFS. So, they're going to be stopping by your house. But this is not just a oopsie. So, sit in your car and wait for me. You might want to find if there's somebody to pick up your children. figure out. >> Well, she said she had to return something. She was just going to run in really quick. But I mean, the kids are really young, so I just don't know if it's a When I got here, the car wasn't on. >> No, I I I heard you say that it wasn't on. >> With everything on the table, it's now up to the officers to determine what happens to her from here. >> So, um I just don't know cuz I I haven't I know Tyson wrote this, so I might give him a call really fast. >> I think it's just >> I think it's just a notice to appear. Yeah. But I just have to I'm gonna call Tyson really fast because I know he did this because a girl left her kids over at the um the rise while she ran inside. >> Okay. Do you want me to go inside with him and get the time quicker? >> Yeah, if you don't mind. >> Hey, do you have a moment? Um this lady left uh her two children in the car cuz she had to return something really quick. And uh they're born in 20 and 22, so they're super young, both in car seats. The air conditioning wasn't even on the car. The car wasn't running. It was off. Uh Bart's going in to check the cameras and everything. Um I know that this is like an arrestable thing, but is this just a notice to appear now or Yeah, me too. But I just wanted to double check. I I called Tyson because I know he wrote wrote this once. Scott, I can't talk. I'm sorry. I don't know if I could just write it as like a ticket basically, you know. Okay. Should I just have her drive to the PD since she's got these kids? Okay. And then I just do up the criminal charges there. Okay. Yeah. Just that way she won't have to get somebody to watch the kids and stuff. Okay. It's going to be charged for each kid, so it would be two misdemeanors. Correct. >> I'm charging with each just just cuz. >> Once they've agreed on how to handle the case, the officers turn back to the woman and walk her through what comes next. >> Okay. All right. Thank you. Bye. Okay. So, since you have two kids, you could follow us to the PD. We're going to do everything there. It's two misdemeanor charges, so you're actually being arrested, but I'm not going to I mean, if you want, you could have somebody pick your kids up. You could leave your car here. I can cuff you and arrest you, or you can just follow us to the PD. I'm kind of giving you a better option. It's endangering the life of a child. You'll get two counts because there's two kids in the car. Um, so I'll give you the court date information. Um, like I said, BCFs will be contacting you. Um, and then make sure you show up to court. But do you know where the Lakeland Hills Police Department is? >> I don't, but I'll follow you. >> Okay. Yeah, you could either just follow us. Like I'll like you could go first. >> I'll go behind. You can go. >> Well, I I need you to go get the video, too. Or they already >> pictures of it. Do you want the whole video? I got the start and end. >> Yeah, >> I took pictures of start and end. >> Perfect. >> Or unless you want all 13 minutes of it. >> Uh, that'll be fine for now. So, yeah, I'll just have him go first and then I'll just follow you guys. Um, so just follow us through and then it's it's literally like 2 minutes from here. But this way we don't have to uh we'll have you just wait in the conference room. You can bring the kids in there with you and I'll write up the um forms and then we'll let you go. Okay. >> I don't know if I should technically say she's 11:01 cuz we're not really. They bring her to the station without incident. And the first order of business is a thorough check of her purse and personal items. >> Is your husband going to be decent about this or are you like is it going to be a fight when you get home? Wondering how much? >> Gotcha. Do you think I mean like will he be supported? >> It's not like I was doing anything that crazy. It was just a return to imprisonment more than >> you're not going to I will bet you my paycheck right now. Just so we're clear. >> Just just so we're clear. If this even like in all seriousness, I'm trying to think of like the most ridiculous thing that I could put on the line right now. [snorts] I would be shocked. That's very unlikely. Okay, you're not [snorts] if they in all seriousness like I can't go into detail, but I have seen some like horrific child abuse cases, okay? And this is not, you know what I mean? Like I'm I'm telling you, I've seen some bad things that have not ended up in this, just so we're clear. Okay? So again, mistake that you're not going to do against compared to some of the other stuff that I've seen. I would bet you anything would do anything so >> yeah just stupid. Seeing her break down in tears, the officer takes a moment to offer a few reassuring words. >> So, this is going to be easier to think about later. Okay? I know right now this is like very like in your face. You're dealing with it. You're in the middle of dealing with it. If this is the worst thing that ever happens, okay, this is does not mean anything about you as a mom. >> Okay? It doesn't mean anything about you as a person. >> Thank you. >> All this says is this was a mistake. Okay, that's that's it. You did something un It sounds like this was not even like an intentional you know what I mean. There was no intent to cause any harm. >> Okay. >> Never. Never. >> It's a mistake. It's a mistake. Everybody makes them. >> Never hurt my kids. >> Everybody makes mistakes. >> Every single person. So, this is a mistake. It doesn't say anything about you as a person. >> In the end, the woman was charged with two counts of endangering the life of a child. Number three, mother leaves kids in a hot vehicle. Police make sure she doesn't do that again. On November 11th, 2024, a call comes in about two children left alone in a car with the windows open on a hot day. The responding officer approaches calmly, [music] speaking softly as he asks the kids where their mom is. I'm >> going to hang out with you until your mommy comes. Okay. >> How old are you? >> Seven. Okay. How long's she been gone? A long time. Is that your sister? What's her name? Oh, it's your boy. It's a boy. Oh, I didn't even know. long hair. >> Okay. Well, >> do you know where you live? >> 94. >> You don't know where you live? Okay. >> Can I You want to see some fireworks go off? >> Huh? >> How long you got? >> Too long. >> Well, yeah. >> But I can't even go in there cuz I don't want to leave them alone. And I can't arrest her by myself. So, I'm going to have to have Aaron here. Someone's going to take the kids. Something's going to happen though. >> Oh yeah. >> At first it was if it was like 10 15 minutes I was like I don't like it. But she can get a verbal lashing. Now she's going to get that. >> Well that you could just kind of forward to DCFS and they can take care of >> that's going to happen anyways. >> But in that situation it didn't have to be >> put me on that ticket on South Gary. >> Watch Aaron. Aaron's going to lose. We're both going to lose it on this lady. I was like, I kind of use a fire lane. We did something similar at Walmart. She was there like 15 minutes. She ended up having a warrant for uh >> I looked her I looked this girl up. She's clear. But >> why so far away? >> Huh? >> Why would she park so far away, too? >> But the windows like at least roll the window so you can't pull the kid out of the car or they could like crack all the windows. There's two of them in there. There's a one-year-old in there. >> By this point, it's been around half an hour since the mother disappeared into the store. And that doesn't even account for how long the children were alone before anyone noticed. >> bother you with this, but my one, my camera's about to die. Two, the verbal lashing that this mother's about to get. And I'm probably going to take that to custody. >> Is she still not here? >> I've been out here for 23 minutes. This window is like wide open for this kid to just be ripped out of the car. >> And there's a one-year-old in the back. >> How old is this child? >> He's four. He doesn't know his last name. >> Okay. >> He He gave me his mom's name, Jessica. I was able to find her in web RMS. She's clear. >> Um, but I couldn't even go inside to try to find this lady. >> I didn't want to leave them alone, >> right? >> I mean, is that like a child neglect? Not abandonment. >> One of the two. >> Well, if it was like 10 minutes. I mean, the window >> was probably a while before that. >> Yeah, but the windows rolled down this much. >> Is this maybe somebody right here >> and the one-year-old in the back? >> No, this is somebody right here walking. >> I have no idea. She seemed young. Uh, it said uh born in 90 or 94, I think. 96. >> Out of her home. >> No, it doesn't. >> Are you Jessica? >> How are you doing, Jessica? >> Are these your kids? I just want to take my daughter to the bathroom really quick. >> About how long were you in there really fast? >> Just like 10 minutes. >> You're a complete liar. Cuz I've been standing here according to my body cam for 25 minutes. Somebody also called and that call came in about 12 minutes prior to that. So I've been out here for about 37 minutes. Your kids 37 minutes with a semi-truck running. There was like three vans out here sitting and then multiple people driven past your children in a process. I don't understand that. >> No, I don't think you do understand. I don't know if you watch the news and what goes on in the world, but these kids could have been taken. Something bad could have happened to them. >> I mean, that's extremely neglectful. >> I think we were you got three kids. To the officers, it makes no sense that she chose to leave [music] two kids outside while taking another with her. Excuses aside, her decision still puts those children in harm's way. >> Why did you not take? >> Well, I mean, the baby was sleeping and I mean, she only had to go to the bathroom really quick. I already had the I already have the >> You also went shopping, too? >> Yes, I already have the stuff here and I just needed to take her really I had to go back and take her back in there. She was I mean, you've been in there way longer than 10 minutes. It's not even exact. Like, I have a counter right here. >> There's a lot of people in the store, >> but you have your children. >> I understand. I could have. Yes, you're right. I >> I mean, at what point do you drop your your shopping things and come get your kids? >> I understand. I guess I got the shopping cart. You could have gone grabbed that. So, taking them all in. >> This happens all the I mean, you're not the only one that has three children. >> I know. >> You have lots of people have three children. 31 is not acceptable. The callers refused to separate the kids are trying to walk out the door. This is >> my first time. >> Okay. And you live where? >> In Glendel Heights. >> In Glendel Heights. How long have you lived there? >> My whole life. >> Your whole life. Okay. Whose license plates? >> It looks like the son is grabbing her. >> My mom's registered to the car, but I paid the car out. Well, the car's paid off because who's registered the car? My mom. >> Your mother. Okay. Does mom live in the city then or she lives? I live with her. >> Who do you live with in Linda Heights? >> My grandparents and my mother. >> Okay. >> All right. Um, do you uh does your mother or the grandparents have car? >> No, my mom's at work right now. >> Okay. >> Oh, yeah. She works in Elgen. >> Okay. All right. I mean, I I I don't really see a justification or any kind of emergency situation here. Am I missing something? Is Ostrich GM Beck I'm missing something? >> Yeah. I mean, >> no, I'm serious. I I maybe we're missing something. >> I'm not justifying anything. I mean, I'm just letting you guys know what I did and I'm not It's not justifying anything. I know I did wrong and you guys are here obviously because I did something wrong. >> Okay. Even with her apology, the officer doesn't let the point slide. 40 minutes is more than enough time for heat, strangers, or sheer bad luck to turn the situation into something far worse. >> I mean, that's the thing. Go ahead. >> You kind of understand where we're coming from, right? Like at some point, did you say like, >> "I wonder how my children are doing like a 49 as soon as I can." That's why I ran out of the store. >> 40 minutes. 40 4 total. >> There's a lot of people in the >> store 40 minutes, but you only got two candidates out here. >> What if they were gone? >> What if you came out here and they weren't >> and they were just gone? Cuz you left that window. Like I could have pulled your son right out the window and left with him. He doesn't know his last name. He doesn't know his phone number. He doesn't know who what your last name is. >> He's gone. And I I would hate for that to happen over there. >> I mean, there's going to be some sort of consequence for that. Like that's it's just going to be something that's going to happen here. So you kind of left me no choice. >> The keys are in the car. >> The doors are unlocked. >> Children out on a blue. >> I just tell you all of this is not an emergency. Tyler has to turn around and grab another seat. >> Okay, >> this is super bad decision. >> Yeah, this is I'm sorry I react the way I do. Like I said though, I have two kids that are this exact same age >> and I couldn't imagine leaving them for a minute in a car unsecured with my keys in it in the back of a parking lot. Wait, there's keys in this car. >> Car's running. Car's running. >> Okay, I'm going to freaking >> Now you see why you're here. >> What? >> Now you see why you're here. >> I probably didn't need to get my ears checked. >> At this point, they spell it out clearly, walking her through what her actions mean and what's coming next. >> I didn't hear it. Okay, I got it. >> No, no, no. That's >> Who else is paying? Can you copy a suspicion vehicle? >> Mhm. That's why >> so Lakeidge Drive had a gun and put it in at the park. The vehicle is no long >> and that's the least of my of your worries right now. You should be concerned about your children, their safety, and moving forward >> how you're going to act as a mother. >> I hate to to tell you what to do right now and tell you how to be a mom, but clearly [crying] you're not fit to be one of them in this moment. As I would be mad at anyone with my children, cuz I would I'm kind of looking at them the same way as I would with mine. So, that's what's going to happen. If you got a phone, I want to call your mom. Tell her to leave work. Hopefully she leaves >> cuz I'm guessing she would leave work >> cuz basically what we're going to do is we're going to bring a police car up here. We're going to put all these car seats in there. We've got a car seat with a little one here and we're going to drive you all to the police station. >> You all y'all are coming to the police station. >> Um I'm guessing he probably needs a diaper change [crying] in the laundry. What? >> I have clothes on the laundry mat. >> What about them? >> I have all their clothes on the laundry mat. >> Where's the laundry mat at? >> It's over there. Um, >> can you copy? >> Oh, we'll get them. You can get him after >> or call mom and tell her to go tell her to grab >> I mean are are any is there a father or is there a male in the picture at all? >> As they reach out to DCF and move toward closing out the call, the woman appears calm and open to what the officers are explaining. >> You have full custody of all these children. Yeah, this is the first time. >> Have you ever had police contact before? Have you ever been arrested for anything? >> How old are you? >> 24. >> 24. >> Did we Did we do a secret already? >> I have not. No, I I I just found her in there real quick. So, you understand the severity of this, right? >> It's just It sucks. But you got to be smarter than that. And we got to do something. There's too There's cameras. We had a couple people call on this. This guy's been sitting in his truck watching these kids. So, that's what's kind of going on. So, I'll cuff you in the front. >> The break we're giving you is not towing your car. Okay. So, we can tow your car. Not going to do that to you. >> Can you guys at least roll the windows up? >> Yeah, we'll do that for you. The woman was later charged with endangering the life of a child. Number two, this mom ignored the warning signs. So, a bystander did the right thing. On September 14th, 2025, concerned citizens in Sunrise, Florida, dialed 911 after discovering children in a hot car with at least one child in the trunk. The woman who made the call now walks officers through what led up to it. >> Okay. So, cuz see I'm parked right there. So, I turn around, I put my stuff in the car and I see him like saying there's kids in the car. He's screaming there's kids in the car and I see him like by the window. >> Okay. And so when you approach the car, >> so when I come across the I had the water in my hand. So when I was like, "What's going on?" And that's when he was like, "There's kids in the car." So I was like, you know, everybody's standing around. >> And when you looked inside the car, what did you So when I I just pulled the door cuz I already they was already saying it was kids in the car. I pulled the back door open and as soon as I opened up the door, I seen that pink and gray car seat. It was like flipped >> almost like if the back seats were folding down. >> The the the back seat was down. So but it's down but it's not it can't go all the way down because now they got obstructing it. The car seat is obstructing that and she's like you could tell she must have been on had to be that side of the car because the way her body was. Remember this how I'm pulling her out. So, if you see how the car parked, I'm pulling her across. The first little baby was down on the floor when I first opened. >> So, who was the first child you you >> The one that I had sitting in the with the poop on him. The one that I set inside the basket. Okay. >> I set him in there first. >> So, you grabbed him out first. I picked him up and did put him in the shopping cart. >> So, yeah. And I almost like kind of like cuz he's soaking wet like the >> Was he sweating? >> Sweating. Cold. Trench. >> Seem like almost out of breath. >> He was looked like he was about to go to sleep. So, that's what the man was like, "Oh, I think they tired." And I was like hot. Like you could tell. Yeah. >> So I immediately start giving him water and I put it on the back of his neck. You know all the pressure points I put on his neck and then when I pulled the little girl out and I was like oh it's another baby in here. >> So as you told the little girl come out and keep them all they're all in the trunk. Correct. >> Correct. They're coming I'm put right. >> So you pull the first one >> on the floor like he was down on the floor like >> so you reach from the back seat into the trunk grab the baby out from the trunk put him on the seat body kind of in like Yeah. So when I did, I had to kind, you know, to grab him, pick them up. >> And then you after you put him in the shopping cart, >> I put him in this and then I put him in the front of the shopping cart. >> And you saw a little girl >> and then the little girl I p cuz I pulled the little girl out. >> She may have acted quickly enough to prevent the worst outcome, but listening to her describe the scene makes it clear the children were already in a very bad spot. >> She was uncovering him. That's why I didn't know it was another baby in there >> that the second one I took out. >> So when she came out, you saw another baby. And that's why it's like, oh, it's another baby and he's drink covered in sweat. They're poor weak. You can see the diapers diapers filthy. They're what? >> Did they have clothes on? >> No, they don't have no clothes on. And that's why we was like, "What the?" They have no clothes on, but they got a bleach chemical smell to them. >> So, I put them in there and then that's when I can say the lady in the purple dress started talking and she was like trying to I guess she thought that I was on her side and I told her, "No, I'm I don't know them." Like, "No, this is not right. These kids are babies. Like, these kids are swear." She's like, "We let me go in the in the store." I said, "Well, yeah, you can go ahead and do that." She was trying to make them go stop calling the police and then the lady with the beard was getting sassy with him. And that's why I was like, "No, that don't work like that." One thing about me, >> so the lady with the beard came out before the mother. >> She was like, "That's my friend. She went going up on him." She's like, "They she beat him. She's seven years old. She old enough to be in the car by her. Stay old enough to be in the car." And I'm like, "You serious? What the the car?" So, another thing I want to uh like >> kind of confirm when you came up to the vehicle before anybody else had came, >> did you notice the car was on or off? >> It was off. >> Completely off. The engine wasn't running. >> I The little girl had the phone. So, immediately when I saw a phone in her hand, I said, "Oh, >> can let's try to call your mom." I said, "Oh, you got the phone and the keys to the car?" >> She's like, "Yeah." >> So, she had the keys. >> Little baby got the keys. So, the lady with the purple took the little girl with the keys. The little girl had the keys in her hand the whole time, but they already in the trunk. >> Yeah. >> Car was not on. So you would say that there was definitely more than like a 30 minute period that they were inside that car by themselves >> had listened from the time I pulled you I done pulled up. >> Yeah. >> I saw them standing in front of the store. I'm in Walmart 25 I'm going say 30 minutes. We talking picking up my items waiting in line to pay for my stuff >> and I'm outside walk over there to my car within 2 minute time frame. Like I say my phone rang 3:35 but they're already over here on the phone with you guys so make it make sense. Soon after, the mother arrives on scene, immediately pushing back on the allegations instead of acknowledging the risk her kids were in. >> Okay, so you left them in the car by themselves. >> No. So why did she rip out the babies out of the car seat? >> Rip out what kid? >> Did you go inside? >> She only ripped out the seven door the door was. So what happened was I seen >> she's the one that took the >> I when I open I'm going just show you what it looked like when I open. This was like this. >> The secrets were >> up like this. >> I seen one baby which was him. >> Yeah. >> First >> I pulled him out and then that's when I realized it was another baby. >> So but you seen them in the car by themselves. >> Yeah. They was then she I got her out and when when I pulled her out that's when I seen that one and I >> So it must have been when she came to get me to get my car. >> No. So they wasn't in the car long but they were alone for long enough for multiple people to call. And so when she got hurt, that lady got hurt. So we [clears throat] was like, "Let's just go try to find the mom." They was already on the phone with police, >> you know. I said, "What the phone?" >> So with all this being said, you left your kids alone. >> Leave them alone. I went in the store to give her the car. I went in there to give her my bank card. >> No. No. But you have to understand, you left them alone long enough for multiple people to call for their well-being. It is what it is, right? So lesson learned. We're not going to do that again. Because if she would have put the car in drive or put the car in reverse, that's a rem that's a freaking removal, right? Seis will be called. You cannot do that. I'm sorry. It is what it is. I understand you're trying to do whatever it is that you got to do. But mom to mom, it's 90° outside. You left him in the car long enough. Multiple people call 911. It cannot happen. And not only that, you left them in there long enough that someone was able enough to remove them from the car, have fire, rescue come, then have the police come. That's too long. Do you understand where I'm coming from? Okay. It just it can't happen. It's South Florida. People kids all the time. And that's an easy lick. >> So before we go, I need to make sure those car seats are installed correctly and they can be placed inside. The mother's friend quickly jumps to her defense, arguing with the witness and claiming she was there the entire time, saying the situation is being exaggerated. >> He saw me standing out there on the car. >> I just went to go use. >> So, you were here at the car? >> Yes. I guess cuz I wasn't right there. He feel like they buy their stuff. So, I told this young lady to watch them while I go get them off. >> It's just a bunch of nons. They just do too much right here. >> So, were you the one that was watching the kids? >> Yes. She went inside. >> I got the kids and everything. He said, "Oh, no. They about to do you mind me asking why did you take the sevenyear-old inside?" >> No, she was right here watching them. I asked her to watch them for me while I go get her what he just did. >> No, I was watching him. I told her to watch them for me while I go get her. Cuz I'm like, he's doing too much. She making a big scene for no reason. >> You were watching them, too? >> Was the car on or off? >> The car was off. I had the key. key. They must >> Yeah, they making a big s. He kept call taking pennies out of the tag and everything like what? I I I'm so upset with him. >> How long were you guys gone for the car? >> We was not gone. I was here. She ran inside to get some shoes and get some clothes. This don't make no sense. This just don't make no I'm telling him I'm here while he on the phone with 911. Then he took pictures of the test. Oh, my girlfriend said they by the car. >> Yes. And you were just outside of the >> You got your ID on you? >> You have your ID on you? >> Yes, I do. >> You got your ID, mama? >> I have a picture of it. >> Are you the registered owner of this car? >> As other officers piece together the facts, the mother finds herself in a one-on-one conversation with a female officer. >> Who do you live with? >> I have my own place. >> You don't live with anybody? >> No. >> Do you have any family member in the area? Why am I going to go to jail >> to be honest? Yes. >> Why? What did I do wrong? >> Okay. So, I'm going to explain this to you, right? I have two witnesses. We're just going to I'm going to explain to you. Have I have two witnesses, mom to mom, cuz I have a 5-year-old. I have two witnesses that call 911. Your kids were found in the trunk of a car with Oh, yes. >> They play in the trunk of the car. They wasn't found in no trunk of the car. >> No, no, no. That's how they got noticed. Cuz they heard a >> Yeah, cuz they be playing in the trunk. You can ask my daughter. >> No, no, no. I don't care. I don't care. I don't care about that. >> You can ask my daughter. They always be playing in the trunk. They always >> 90° weather. >> The car was on. >> No, it wasn't. >> I swear to you, you can ask my child. She could tell you the car was on. Okay, but you can ask my daughter. The car was on. >> She's seven. I'm talking to >> It doesn't matter. When I step up to them, they're going to ask my daughter questions and she's going to tell them. It's >> They're also going to talk to two grown adults, not a sevenyear-old. >> But y'all not taking my my story either. Y'all just >> You were inside Walmart. >> Yeah, but not for long. >> For 37 years. >> I saw you on camera inside that store. You were gone for 37 minutes. >> So, I'm trying to help you out. >> No, because I saw >> You don't have any family members? >> I told her that I was not to go in the store, >> but because I hadn't need to grab a few extra things, I still didn't need to go in my first box. >> I've never been to go to jail. >> We know. We know. >> But you need to call a family member cuz I don't They can't go with her because her criminal history is way too long. Okay? So, I'm trying to help you find a family member to go with them. Do you understand? I can afford to go to jail. >> As she cries, the hard truth remains. This is the fallout from her own decisions, and no amount of remorse can roll back what happens next. >> I I want you to >> Okay, look. It's either It's either you can find a family member. >> I mean, I'm not going to have much of a choice, but can I please speak to the sergeant, please? >> I have rights if I can speak to the sergeant, please. >> Yeah. Yeah. You want water? >> I'll get you some water right now. Okay. >> Here. >> Here you go, sweetheart. >> Nice and cool back here. Yeah. Hi. There we go. Better. >> Hi. Say that only four times. >> So, we need a father. >> They don't have a father. He in jail. >> Okay, ma'am. Well, I don't I don't know that. I don't know. >> Yeah, but that's what you need to understand that I'm a single parent. I take care of my kids by myself. >> We need Right now, we need a family member that can come here. >> Who? >> Who is this? [sighs] >> Their grandmother. Okay, I will talk to her. What's her name? >> I'mma talk. >> I will talk to her. What's her name? Lord, >> how you going to ask me? >> What is her name? >> Take the phone from me. >> What's her name? >> Miss Hazel. >> Hello. >> Hello. >> Is this Miss Hazel? >> Miss Hazel. >> Hi. This is Officer Watson with the Sunrise Police Department. >> I'm currently here with your your granddaughter, Sierra. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Are you able to come to the Walmart in Sunrise at 1255 West Sunrise Boulevard um to pick up her kids? >> Sunrise Boulevard. >> Correct. >> A Walmart? >> Yes, the Walmart in Sunrise Boulevard. >> Do you live at apartment one or two? >> I don't live in No apartment. >> Yes, correct. At 1255 West Sunrise Boulevard. >> Okay. Northwest. You're the surgeent, right? >> No, it's not on It's not on Pine Island. It's on West Sunrise Boulevard. [music] >> Now, all that's left is to wait for the relative to pick up the children. All right. >> I need you to come here now to pick up her children. >> All right. I'm on my way. >> How far are you? >> Northwest. >> Well, I'm going to come with >> Okay. Well, if you can, please, if you can leave now, so that way you can get over here as soon as possible. >> I am. All right. Come get my >> The woman was ultimately transported to Broward County Jail where she was booked on three counts of child neglect without great bodily harm. Number one, police step in after child found alone on a bridge. Parents had no idea. On March 16th, 2024, officers found a child wandering alone on a bridge with no adult in sight. They traced her back to a nearby home and went to the residents to alert the adults who should have been watching her. >> My final drive. >> Oh my goodness. Where she at? >> My final light drive. Lookout one. Oh my god. >> Where is she? Get the [ __ ] out of >> Huh? >> She like five, six years old. >> Yeah, she's she's going to be six. >> Which window? >> Out the bathroom window. >> Which one of y'all's going up there to get her? >> And he said they were all cow for as I walked away. He's like a little girl. I was like, "Yeah, I think so." And he goes, "Oh crap. Scar out the bathroom window." >> They're both in there. I have no idea. I was telling her to come up there and get her. I just started working my way down the hill. >> I know. I wasn't supposed to do that. >> No. >> What? >> No, you're not. >> No. Once you were down here, I did. >> It said it was though. Knowing that they're probably not going to come off there. >> Yeah. >> You know what I mean? >> They're taking off. Hey, she's here. We brought her to you, >> guys. We have her. >> She's She's here. The officer just brought her here. >> Oh, did he? >> He's right here with her. Who who was watching her? >> She was supposed to be in the bathroom yesterday. >> Supposed to be in the bathroom. >> Yeah, she went out the bathroom window. >> All right. >> She said that she was supposed to be in the bathroom. So, whichever one you want to pick. >> From the moment they start asking questions, she leans into excuses, doing everything she can to avoid owning the fact that her child was wandering off by herself. Who was supposed to be watching her? >> She went out the bathroom with us. >> Okay. Well, who was supposed to be watching her? >> He's all in the house. She was supposed to be in the bathroom. >> Who was supposed to be watching her? I get you were all in the house. Who was supposed to be watching your child? >> Um, I was in the bedroom. >> Okay. Did they tell you where they found her? >> Up there on Final L >> in the middle of the bridge. Okay. So, she'd obviously been gone for 20 plus minutes before we made it down here to you. So, God knows how long she's been gone. Okay. >> Yeah. >> She crab through the window. >> Yeah, she went through the window that >> Okay, hang tight. >> Come on, honey. Come out. Come on out. Let's go. Go see your mommy. Your mommy's over there. Let's go see your mommy. Come on. Let's go see your mommy. You're okay. What? Can one of you come get her? >> She crawl through the front. >> Apparently she couldn't get through when I was sitting in there. >> Let's go see your mommy. >> No, this way. Come see your mommy. I don't think she wants to go. >> Can one of you guys come get her? >> Who is that? Oh no. >> Do that. >> Come here, hun. Come here. >> Is Daniel home? >> Is Daniel home? >> Yeah, my brother's home. >> Okay. Whose kid is it? >> It's mine. >> It's yours. >> Okay. What's Daniel doing? >> He's sitting in the recliner there in the living room. >> The officer then starts gathering more details directly from the child's mother. >> She wasn't in the room with my daughter playing with the kittens and stuff and she went in the bathroom. She climbed out the bathroom window. We have locks on the door. >> Okay. >> You know, we have dead bolt locks on both doors. >> What's her name? >> Her name is uh >> you autistic. Um >> or just nonverbal. >> She Well, she doesn't talk that well. >> Yeah, >> both of them are autism. >> She got anything else other than autism? >> No. >> She diagnosed with that? >> No, not yet. >> Okay. How many other kids are in the house? >> Just uh two uh two 5-year-old. >> So, just us three and you and Danny. Okay. >> All right. I'm going to do some paperwork. My mom, you know, my mom lives there. We take care of my mom, too. I mean, it's a big household. We have lots. >> What's your mom's name? All right. I'm going to call DCFS. Obviously, >> we have to I mean, we're we're mandated to do that, especially before we found >> I know. I know. I know. I know. >> Okay. >> And then you guys are you cross the bathroom window and ran out the house. >> Okay. But here's the thing. Nobody even when Officer Williams came here and asked, everybody said that all the kids were accounted for. Your brother said everybody moves here. >> Yeah. Well, that's my brother. >> So, >> you know, he didn't, you know, he he thought she was she was in there with my my daughter playing with kittens and stuff. So, you know, she went there to go to the bathroom and whatnot, you know, but I think she would go crawl out the bathroom window. >> Okay. Give us a second. We'll have some papers for you. The officers take a moment to weigh the situation, discussing both the next steps and who should ultimately be held responsible. >> Technically write it for all three adults in there. >> Mom, it's her kid. >> I'm just going to do it. It's endangering. Yeah. >> Yeah. Well, she tried earlier when I was up here and she couldn't. She couldn't. No, she couldn't get through. So, I was like, "All right, >> she managed to get through. >> She figured it out. >> Shut it. >> It was hot in here and I didn't want to roll the window down." >> Well, I was thinking I should have shut it, but >> No, I didn't want to roll the window down because it was so hot. >> Go all the way down that hill, man. >> Yeah. I only did that because it wasn't hard getting down this way. But then I saw a lady two houses up outside and I was like and then she pointed me this direction and then Ben said, but there's no history of it. >> We're on daylight now, aren't we? >> Yes. Long way down. >> Oh yeah. >> Went up a hill. >> And as windy as that bridge is today, she could have blown off. >> Joe was money for knowing where she needed to go cuz I helped a lot. Like which way? Joy's like, "Shape from this way, man." >> You scared the crap out of me. >> 13. >> Well, then I'm like, "Do you know how >> do you know Carrie?" >> No. >> Charge somebody for this. >> Oh, no. My goal the whole time was to >> Yeah. >> do it. It was just >> It's not like they were found out from your house. It it was just who? >> She was pointing down Woodro and I was like down Woodro. >> Oh no, she was pointing down she's pointing down bear view. >> Yeah, I'm pissed. >> Like when stuff like this with kids happens pisses me. >> Yeah, I get things happen. >> That's why I went I don't feel it. I was like I know. With their minds made up, the only thing left for the officers to do is put everything down in writing. >> Luckily, you were able to sit with a ride to the speedless process >> since no one else wanted to come up here. >> Mhm. >> That's why I sent her another car that will help me check the area. Yeah. Um I got rail. That's ter. >> No, no, cuz I want that for the cancer board. >> Yeah. She's in the car. >> What? Imagine back there in the back of the house with my daughter. >> Okay. So, this is not up here for endangering the health and welfare of a child. Okay. She's probably gone for >> 20 minutes at least. >> Probably 40 all together. >> No, there was no she was gone that >> Well, we were on this call for almost Stop. Stop. We were on this call for almost a half hour before he ever got to you to realize that the kid was gone. >> So, I think 40 minutes is probably pretty fair, >> right? >> To get up to the middle of the Fondelac Bridge from here. We're not saying anything was done on purpose or maliciously. >> I know. You know, she she has a bedroom right here in her back back house with my daughter. She's in there playing with the kittens and stuff, you know, and she went in there, used the restroom. You know, my brother didn't realize, you know, she had, you know, came back [clears throat] out. >> So, she crawled out the window. >> I got it. So, your court date is going to be Monday, April 22nd at 9:00 a.m. at Tesla County Courthouse in Pin. I just need a signature from you right here. She isn't going in the back of a patrol car tonight, but this isn't a free pass. The officers can already see that when it comes to caring for her child, something serious is missing. >> So, what does this mean then? >> It's a notice to appear for endangering means you're going to have to go before a judge and explain yourself and explain the situation. >> And then I'm going to write up the report. I'm going to send it to the state's attorney and obviously DCFS. So, >> you know, I'm I'm disabled, right? I can't barely walk. So, you know. >> Okay. Well, it's kind of out of our hands at this point. >> Yeah. Just the signature here is just that I'm giving you your copy and then you I've explained it to you. It's nothing more than that. >> Okay. >> There's no anything. >> Just cooperate with whoever shows up here to do an interview and I will. >> Yep. >> All right. >> Okay. All right, Carrie. Good luck. >> The woman was charged with endangering the life of a child. Well, that was something. Let me know what you think in the comments. And until next time, stay safe out
