These folks thought they could talk their way out of trouble, but the officers were already two steps ahead. Here are four cases when cops expose the dumbest scammers ever. Number four, man gets caught red-handed, tries to lie his way out of the check scam. Anyway, on April 26th, 2023, officers responded to a call at a local bank after staff reported a man attempting to cash what appeared to be a fraudulent check. Here's what unfolded when officers arrived to sort things out. >> What's your name? >> Kelly. >> What's going on, man? Where'd you get this check from? >> I don't know. I just alarm system that fall in the house in the area. >> Okay. Where is the where's the house in the area? >> I obviously don't know the address. I just do the where the people who >> All right. Make that make that make sense. You do what? >> I I help people put in alarm systems and houses. >> All right. What company you work for? >> I don't know company. >> What's your business? I don't know. A friend of mine texted me saying if I needed some money so I could get some some money cuz I don't got a job. So he said if I could help him doing a water alarm system for Paul so I could get some bread out of that. >> And then yesterday I just received that through mail. >> You received it through the mail? >> Yeah, I received it through the mail. Yeah, I just I just received it through mail and I came here just to check >> check if it was good, if it wasn't bad. Cuz it was weird to me that the the amount of it the amount of it. I even called him. I said, "Oh, this too much money." Like that's weird. I received it through the mail. I just came by to verify if it was good, if it was bad or something. >> So if I ask him these checks aren't being reported stolen or anything, right? >> I assume that they're not cuz I just received it through mail. How you doing? The mail that was just talking to the other guy sitting down. Where is he? >> You need his ID and such? Yeah. >> No, I just wanted to speak to the gentleman that was helping him out. >> Oh, the person that is on the that was talking to us on the phone. >> Oh, you were talking to somebody on the phone regarding him as well. According to the suspect, the check is a legitimate payment from his employer. But once the bank staff point out several red flags, his explanation suddenly doesn't sound so convincing. >> No, we called what we thought was the account holder and the account phone number had been changed today at another location and checks were being checks were being brought into different banks from >> South Carolina. >> South Carolina, right? Yeah. Um, in Augusta Road in South Carolina, our TD Bank up there. There was two, what, two more down here. >> Um, because pretty much what we do is we get notes like we have a system that we could see if any fraud comes in and we can put it out on our system for each account. So the phone numbers were changed today, the accounts were changed today. The guy, which oddly enough was able to answer some of the questions on the on the profile, but when we asked him about his email, he didn't know it. Now there was no email on the account. He was like, I don't remember which one I use. But there was nothing on the account. Um the guy the customer's in Brooklyn, but we can't find the actual number for the customer. We just have whoever we're talking to and that's what they've been doing lately is going >> to whomever. >> Yeah. And the guy was getting real aggressive on the phone. I'm like, "Dude, there's a check for $7,500. I just want to make sure I'm giving money to the right person." And he's like, "No." He's like, "The check's good." He's like, "I'm done answering your questions." And I'm like, "I'm helping you out." So, right, that's a red flag for us also. >> And there's only been two checks issued since January, and they were both under $50. >> Yeah. And none of the check signatures match at all. >> Okay. So that was like the reason of the flag down was like all happening. >> Yeah. And it all happened at different branches. So as we were like coming here to check on the check, like really check on it. Um we were getting notes in the same system saying, "Hey, this guy just ran out of the branch and we got his IDs down to where Serna >> or Port Orange >> Port Orange branch right down the road over here." >> So that's like what they do is they they hit the same they hit different branches all at the same time. That way it's not supposed to give the red flags, but if they don't do it in a timely manner or say like he was sitting there and not we were in here. >> Yeah. >> We were seeing that three more stores were getting checks that were up and coming across the counter. >> Okay. Because we just asked him like what what company do you work for? He would just like >> I don't know the name of the company. I was like how you know the company that you work for electrical company. Yeah. >> $7,200 check for a security system. >> Yeah. That's a security system. So, >> bank staff break down how these fake check scams usually work. And with the pieces lining up, officers turned back to the suspect with some serious questions. What? >> So apparently >> Spanish mail, sorry. >> Him and some other people at the same time, Paul Orange and New Samra was doing the same thing that they was doing trying to make it. So they want to get a flag cuz you know on the system when you do at the same time, you don't get a flag down. So I guess that they try to do but obviously they happen in different time frames. They trying to they was on the phone with somebody trying to verify it. He was getting aggressive over the phone. He didn't want to answer them the questions no more. And then he hung up. And then the notes prior to like the other TD branches they were at, they just ran out when they couldn't, I guess, get the money up. >> And then before that, I guess they made a deposit $50 each. But that was back back in January, February. H some trouble or something. >> Um I figure it out right now. >> I never done nothing wrong in my life. I just helped my my friend. He just told him, "Come here, get your check." And that's it. After that, I haven't seen anything. >> Oh my god. I can't believe this. I'm just a singer. I just do music. I just needed some money so I could help my mom. Questions are piling up and now officers turn to the suspect, giving him the opportunity to tell his side before things move any further. >> So, I'm going to read you something, buddy. Okay. These are your rights. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say may be sentenced against you. Every I talk to an attorney. Have him or her with you now at any time during question. Now for an attorney won't be appointed to represent you. If anytime you wish to stop talking or have attorney present, all question will be stopped at your request. Do you understand these rights? These rights are mine. You want to talk to us? You want to talk? Huh? You want to talk? Nothing bad. >> Question. Do you want to talk? Yes or no? >> Okay. Let's restart this conversation. Kelly, where'd you get a check from? Friend of >> mine asked me if I wanted to get some money. Your >> friend? I I don't really know his name. I never gave his name. I just called him uh Cuba. >> So Cuba called you? >> Yeah. >> What? So Cuba said, "Do you want to make some money?" >> If I wanted to make some money. Yeah. >> Where did you meet Cuba? >> I met him at Orlando. Okay. Where did you meet him to get the check today? >> Orlando. >> Orlando. No. What time? >> Like by like >> 12 11:30 >> to today. >> Yeah. It was today. >> Where at? >> Um Orlando. Like close to Eleaya. >> Ele. >> Yeah. >> Like you meet at business or something? >> No, we met at a fast food. >> What fast food restaurant? >> It was a checkers. >> Checkers. >> Yeah. on the outside. So, what did he ask you to do? >> He just said, um, just take this check, go to the bank, and say you want to cash it. >> Okay. How much did he say you could get? >> If you cash it, >> um, I think it was maybe one. Right. >> Instead of clearing things up, the suspect's story ends up backing what the officers and staff already suspected, prompting the bank manager to call the real account holder for confirmation. >> Is this bank? >> Yes, this is TD Bank. The actual account is branching. >> No, this is Vincent Monaco. I'm at a different branch. I have the cops here as well, though. We were able to save another one of your checks. Thank you. This is going on now for the past half an hour. Everybody keeps calling me. I can't believe it. >> Yeah, you actually sound familiar from Brooklyn instead of the person I just spoke to who was definitely not from Brooklyn. Um, so and I'm from and I'm from Brooklyn, so I know. >> Um, but yeah, they went in somehow and changed their their phone number. So, we were calling to verify the checks when I was asking questions. They weren't able to answer a lot of the questions. So, we threw up a red flag. We got the cops on immediately for you. Thank you so much like crazy. >> Yeah, that's this is what it's about. But they have one of the guys here. He didn't get any money out of your account. And uh we're going to put a little block on the account for a minute just to make sure no other checks come out. Have you had any like checks stolen or any books or anything like that missing that you could think of? >> No, not that I'm aware of. No, I I've hardly used the account. But um what the heck did I want? The other girl said that that they were going to now close that account and give us a whole new account number and all of that. Yeah, if they start closing how many other states >> Yeah, if they started if Moren started that process already for that's that's the process. I was going to check on that, but if she started Yeah, we have to close the account number down and everything because we just don't want we don't want to make your account open to anybody else getting in there and now that we know that they had access. Um, you know, we just got to make sure you guys are protected and your money safe. >> Okay. Thank you so much. My husband's going to go to the branch sort of to let them know here in New York. >> Okay, perfect. Perfect. Yeah. And if you guys need anything else, um, this is my direct line that I just called you on. My name is Vincent Monaco. I'm the store manager here. Um, any other questions, just let us know. We'll take care of it for you. >> Oh my gosh. >> All right. Thank you so much. >> All right. You're welcome. >> Bye now. >> All right. Bye. >> Yeah, that's definitely not who we spoke to earlier. >> Yeah. >> And she's definitely from Brooklyn. >> Yeah, you can hear >> the other one sounded like family member his brother. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Going into detail, the bank manager describes how scammers continue finding new ways to fool banks and how this particular attempt revealed itself through several telltale signs. He's like, "It's just one after another after another and they're getting so good at getting into their online banking and changing the phone numbers and then seeing their accounts." And then when we asked them token questions like, "Hey, he was able to give me the last four transactions." >> Mhm. That's crazy. That means they they got into the account were able to pull the account up, see the transaction, see the signers, >> which is they never been able to do that before. >> What is that? What is it called? The sign. What is that? >> Uh signers. So like people who are like So if it's like me and you on the account. So like I'll be a signer, you be a signer. So I always ask how many signers so they can say 1 2 3 or four. And if they get it wrong, then we know that's right there. Then you're off. Sorry. >> Dang. We do that and then we're always like tell us about your last five transactions and the guy was able to tell us them. So I was really surprised in that. The only thing he wasn't able to answer was the email address. >> Okay. >> And that's cuz they block half out on >> Yeah. It's like the put X's on it the whole thing. >> That's crazy. >> Yeah. But these are the real customers. We were able to pull their signature card from when they first open the account. That's how we're able to get their old numbers. >> We should call Joanne just for CIA to say, >> "Well, we'll wait till it's all done and then we'll walk around." >> So, how do you think they got all the information from? So, obviously like the internet. She's like online shopping. I'm guessing online shopping or they they tapped into their online banking. Um they could have hacked it. They could have been >> so many ways. Yeah. Identity theft. Yeah. There's so many different ways for me to get in. >> That's crazy. >> Scary. >> Makes me worry. I'm going to start put I'm changing my password. >> Yeah. This makes me burn too hard and someone just take $7,500 out. >> Yeah. That's crazy. >> And the fact he sat here the whole time while I was like postponing, I was so confused by that. Why are you so happy you ran yet? >> Yeah, most of them usually run even if we held on to the ID. That's why I was like, >> it's probably his first time doing something like this. Probably somebody sent him. He's only 23. >> Yeah, that's what I figured. >> I was talking to him and I'm listening to what he's saying. He's like jumpy. He can't like he was asking like the the alarm system. He couldn't explain the freaking business that he worked for. And he was like, "My friends, like what's your friend's name?" He was like, "I don't know my friend's name." It's like, "Bro, >> you just >> you're just digging yourself in their body, hanging out with the wrong people or making wrong decisions happen to you, man." And >> as officers scroll through the suspect's phone, they come across messages that appear to lay out the very plan behind the check scam. >> So, he's talking about open another account, something another account with Calvin, something with direct deposit, and he's always going to open another account right now. Yeah, cuz he he said if I wanted to do some some direct deposit and I said no cuz I don't trust no direct deposits cuz most of the direct deposits they they fraud some stuff like that. So I was like I I think I my account >> who's Kelvin >> Kelvin is a friend a friend of ours. >> Where's he at right now? >> He's at Orlando. >> So what happened with Wells Fargo? He wants another open account with Wells Fargo. Yeah, cuz he said if if I wanted to do something like deposit on my bank account and I said like I was like nah cuz I feel like that's kind of tricky. >> What pictures does he have? Who Who's beeping? >> Huh? >> Beeping war zone. >> Oh, that's that's that's a war zone game of the game. Just a text message hit. >> How long you know Cuba for? >> Not not more than two weeks or three weeks. >> Yeah. >> And had you had you met him on Instagram? >> Like he hit you up or you hit him up or what? No, he he he hit me up. Just open up another account. I'm just talking about what time is a check. Let's be open. I haven't ate nothing. That's why I came I came to work. >> The suspect soon breaks down as the reality of the situation hits him. But his tears aren't enough to change the course officers are now set to take. 11. Sorry about that. >> Central, >> Kelly, you got good things going for you. All you do is try to cash a check. That's it. So they won't talk to you. All right. So what's going to happen? Detectives won't talk to you. >> So I told you >> they just want to figure out what's going on 100%. >> Cuz he didn't he didn't make it. >> Yeah. >> That's what I'm saying. Signed in the back saying I verified. >> Yeah. No, I think >> Yeah, that's what that's why that's the one I >> Yeah. Can we send it over? >> You said you don't have a car here, right? >> You no car, no bike, anything. We need to look after, man. It's all good. >> You got somebody you want us to call, >> mama. Yeah, I think 8319. >> The investigation revealed that the suspect attempted to cash a counterfeit check drawn on another person's account for at least $7,000. And so he was arrested and charged with felony check fraud. Number three, couple tries to skip the bill, but it doesn't end how they hoped. On September 14th, 2024, police were called to a nearby Denny's after a couple allegedly walked out on their bill. Here's how things unfolded once officers tracked them down. >> That's a bad officer Mir Police Department. >> By chance, you guys just leave the dunes without paying? >> Yes, sir. just we was trying to pay. This is the thing. I ordered a breakfast meal. The pancakes was gooey, soggy, and burgers. I gave them back. I didn't eat the pancakes. Brought bacon. >> Look like paper. >> Okay. >> I'm like, can I get the bacon extra extra crispy? So, she brought it back out the same like way. So, I'm like trying to eat on the pain over the food. I'm like, I didn't eat all food. So, I gave the food back and like, what do you want me to do? What? She like, is there a manager? No, there's no manager. >> No manager. >> So, then she asked another she asked the waiter like, "What do you want me to do?" She said, "Well, I'm not I'm not doing anything. I'm not taking anything off. I'm not taking nothing off cuz I didn't eat." >> Okay. >> So, what I was going to do is I like I told her, I've served. There's no manager. She can't call no manager or nothing. I'm telling her, how you going to make us pay for something? Well, I I don't know. You going to have to pay for it. He didn't eat the stuff. So, we telling her, >> "All right. So, did you both order food?" >> Yes. >> Sorry. Did you eat your food? >> Yes. >> And you did not. >> And we Right. And we were trying to tell her that. She said she wasn't going to fix the bill. Period. >> Okay. So, I was going to wait and then the morning come back up here with my uh >> Did they tell you that they were calling the police? >> No, she was on the phone with somebody. I don't know who it was in her hand. >> She Yeah, I don't know. She didn't say she was calling police, but I I was going to come back up here with to speak to a manager because she kept telling me, "Oh, no, you're going to have to pay this." Why we got to pay something he ain't eat? >> Okay. All right. Do me a favor. Hang out here with my partner. I'm going to go talk to them. Okay. >> Okay. >> Thank you. No, >> I haven't got him yet. You could uh get the ID to the ticket. I'm going to go talk to my mother. You good? >> While the suspects insist poor service is the reason they skip the bill, the waitress soon shares details that strongly contradict their version of events. >> Okay, so they were they were my table. They were sitting at table three. >> I had my whole section filled. Mhm. >> He asked me for an original Grand Slam, which comes with pancakes, bacon, either or with sausage or eggs. No hash browns. First thing he said was he wanted a lemonade. I brought him a lemonade. He didn't want the lemonade, so he asked for a Coke. We brought him a Coke. He asked for a side of hash browns. We brought him a side of hash browns. Supposedly, they set the Coke cup on the side of the table and expected someone to see it to get them a refill. But if you see us going back and forth running food, it's not like we're just standing around. We're actually running food. you're here doing our job, >> right? >> So, they got up with an attitude. It was like, "We not paying for nothing. The pancakes was nasty. The food was nasty. But as we look at the plates, all y'all plates are full." I mean, like, it's gone. Like, there's no food here. >> So, he he did eat all his food. >> He ate his food. >> Okay. Cuz he was trying to tell me that he tried sending him back and ended up not eating any of it. And he said he said he like took bites with the food. She said she she noticed she didn't get a lot of food inside. They didn't eat it because they cleaned all the plates completely. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> It was probably just like a couple pieces of eggs left on the plate. There was no meat. It was probably like a few pieces of pancakes. But if you eat more than half of your food, you eating your food. >> Yeah. >> And it's nothing to your waiter and say something like, "Excuse me, you know, this is wrong. Can I get such such?" Then we will fix it. But that's that's not what happens. such attitude and scream. >> With a waitress's account in mind, officers circle back to the suspects to sort out the details, but the couple clearly has plenty to say in their own defense. >> I've got them back in the parking lot right now. I'm assuming obviously to pay for the food like if you wanted to we could probably try to go around like if you're one charges I'm not but I called my manager I was on the phone with my cell phone with my manager and she told me to do exactly what I'm doing now want a lot of back. >> All right. So, what they're saying is that you guys ate more than half of your food. Both both of you ate more than half of your food. >> I ate my Got my plates back. >> Uh I I didn't get that part. I just asked them to tell me what happened. They said you two came in. You order your food. that uh you guys weren't getting like refills fast enough cuz they've been busy and that you guys that you tried sending the food back or didn't try sending food back, but that you guys started saying that you weren't going to pay because the food was nasty, but she said that you guys never told her or told them that the food was wrong. >> She sent food back at the beginning. >> Yeah. She They're saying that they didn't that you guys are more than happy to do. >> He never talked to me. I I spit the pancakes out. >> See, see that's that that's that uh G type of talk, right? I spit the pancakes back out. I split them in a napkin and put it on the table. First of all, when you bought the pancake, they was one of them was real goofy looking and the other one was like real flat. So, I cut it to them without the um syrup on them. You picked it up looking like no, they don't look like they like done all the way. They look kind of good. So, I ate one without the um syrup. Okay. I took the cold syrup, put it on there, tried it again. She brought the hot syrup. I tried that. That's when I spit the pancake out. I can't eat this. It ain't even done. There's something wrong with it. So, the lady came and took the took the pen and said, "Do you want it?" "No, ma'am. I don't I don't want anything else." "No, ma'am. I'm good." >> Even as officers relay what the waitress reported, the couple refuses to budge. Each trying to pin the blame on someone else they claim started the whole mess. >> So, my pancake cuz you still got the breakfast sandwich, right? What' you do with the breakfast sandwich? Did you eat that? >> I didn't have a breakfast sandwich. >> The grand slam. I had eggs. >> Played with a little of that. >> Sorry, I thought I heard you say grand. I thought I thought I heard you say something about breakfast. >> Some some some eggs that I played in a little cuz how they looked some bacon that look like paper. I ate the little three thin pieces of bacon and then some hash browns that I played over. >> Okay. So, you ate the hash browns, you ate the bacon, >> a small portion, a little bit of the egg, but nothing and some and the bacon. >> Gotcha. >> Didn't eat the pancakes, barely ate the eggs, barely ate the um hash browns. Just ate the little strips of the bacon. >> Okay. But other than that, you ate She You ate all your >> I had an appetizer. I ate my >> And the only thing we asked him was take off the pancakes. >> That's all we That's all I take off take off the pancakes. No, we ain't taking off nothing. >> That's all she said. Well, it doesn't matter because this is not my first rodeo at a restaurant. So, if we get a meal and we don't like it, they take some off and they deduct that from the bill. I'm not taking nothing off. What can I speak to a manager? Ain't no manager here. >> The other girl said, "What you want me to do?" The other side, no, don't take nothing off of them. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> See, the problem, >> did you guys happen to swear and get an attitude with them while you guys were in there saying like something along the lines of what the are you all going to do or something? She was on two phones. >> Yeah, she was on two phones. I said, "No, tell me about the Tell me about the pancakes." There was no good. The food is no good. It's garbage. >> Okay. >> I did say that. I didn't say what y'all going to do. >> Okay. >> With the suspect's opposing response, the officers head back in to get the final say from the store staff. >> Hang on for a second. We go talk to him again. See what I said about the food was it was garbage because we should pick up. I said, "No, you're telling about how I ordered the food. Tell me about how food was no good. It's garbage." >> Yeah. >> She wasn't saying that part on the phone to the whoever she was talking to. >> Okay. Yeah. Cuz she said she was on the phone with her manager and then on >> Okay. Well, that's maybe she was telling that to Now I'm saying tell that part that the food was no good. And I asked who in the back cooking. >> This food is horrible. He needs to go home. >> Okay. >> What I'm asking is if she's on the phone with the manager, why she just couldn't take the pancakes off? We were going to pay. I gave her the ticket to pay the bill. All we ask for her to take the pancakes off. She said, "No, I ain't taking nothing off." That's exactly how you working in customer service and talking like that. She didn't take back to that penitentiary place right there cuz that's where they from doing all that extra. >> Okay, hang out for a sec. I'll be back. All right. >> We admit that they Yes. He said that he didn't know that she ate all her food. He said that he had his bacon, like a couple bites of the eggs, but like took a bite out of the pancakes and spit it out and that they were just trying to get the panc the pancakes taken off. And that you guys were adamant about not taking anything off even though we didn't. >> Is that anything close to what might have happened? >> He ate most of the pancakes cuz I'm the one that went away. >> Okay. And you guys threw everything away already? >> Yes. >> Yeah. But he did eat most of the pancakes. >> Okay. He had about maybe a quarter left. >> Gotcha. >> He was already deliberate from the getgo. Everything was wrong. Everything that was built was wrong. >> From the lemonade to the Coke to Y'all got a picture in there. It got hash browns. But I don't have hash browns because it's not what you ordered. So would you like to order hash browns? I got the hash browns. I brought him the hash. >> The store staff's multiple witnesses trumped the suspect's claim of innocence. And it's time for the officers to inform them what will happen next. >> They're willing to pay that kind of ass. It doesn't matter. They don't want to do anything about it. >> No, they're going to pay what they're going to be getting. >> Okay. So, talk to him a little more. Um, there's I have multiple employees saying that he ate more most of his food. >> The black girl, >> the girl that was just talking to you, she the one that took the whole plate of pancakes. >> She told me that there was like a quarter of the food. >> I knew she just as they don't take nothing. >> How How much is the bill, sir? >> It's $36.7 >> with the pancakes. >> Don't worry about it. They cuz she just sat there and lied cuz that she the one who took the food. The girl that was just talking to you. Yeah, she No, she said she said >> she took the whole plate and she's like, "Sir, you don't want nothing else?" >> Yeah, she asked me that. >> 37 36 what? >> $1.7. >> You're more than welcome to go in yourself or if you don't want them. >> No, I'll go in and pay. It's not no problem. >> For sure. >> Get the receipt. Get the number to the manager. >> Yeah. Corporate number. >> Yeah, I go in. >> Can you go in with their names, too? So, what's your first name? >> Isaiah Brown. >> Isaiah. >> He took my ID already. >> Yeah. Uh, I just haven't gone back to my computer to look. All right, so this is what's going to happen. Okay, they they are saying that you were causing a scene the entire time that you were they said that you were loud and belligerent and you were making them feel uncomfortable while they were. Bro, I was way at the front of the store when she picked up the phone when I when I said that to the um lady like, "How about telling them about the pancakes?" There was no deal. >> Yeah. Okay. So, they are adamant about taking this further. Um not in terms of staff, but they want to go the route of disorderly conduct. Okay. >> Yeah. With the situation nearly wrapped up and the couple finally agreeing to pay the bill, things seem settled, or at least until one suspect makes another wrong decision. >> I I wouldn't sign it myself cuz I wasn't here. But they were saying, "So, you're going to be getting a ticket for disorderly conduct, right? It's going to come with a hearing date. You can show up to that date and you can tell them like, "No, I don't think I should have to pay this because of X and a fine." >> Yes. >> And what about her her promise to me? What about her comments to me? She's not taking taking nothing off. She What about all that? The way she's talking to the customer. >> You haven't said anything. >> Where did that come from? My wife told the way she was talking to >> What did she say you have thought that you thought was over the top? >> Well, over the top. I'm not taking nothing off the deal. >> Okay. That's as a business, they have the right to say that. >> How is that? >> Not the way she said. No, it's not. That if there was a manager standing there said she would have not said the way she said it, >> never in a day. Never in the day. I'm not taking nothing off the bill for today. >> Okay. That's not how you run a professional business. >> It's not that's it's not my business to run. I not going to agree or disagree with you. I'm just telling you what they said. Okay. Um, give me one second. >> Now you want to give me a ticket. >> A ticket for this conduct. >> This conduct. This What you mean this conduct? >> Did you get that lady name? She wouldn't even give me corporate numbers. See what I'm talking about? >> Wait a minute. >> Did you want a corporate number? >> Yes. She has been She told me to go online and see. That's what I'm But they want to try to get me a ticket. >> A ticket? >> Here. He's for disorderly conduct. I'm going to go back in there and talk to them real quick and I need everybody name on what you got to do. I got to go. We got to go. Just go ahead and do what you got to do cuz you acting like you too about disorderly conduct as much as they disrespected going to be an ordinance. I can make it a state ticket if you want instead. >> Go and do what you got to do. >> Going from an ordinance to a misdemeanor if that's what you want to do. >> Taking everything into account, officers ultimately decide the suspects will only face disorderly conduct citations for their actions. Number two, getting caught wasn't part of this man's plan. On July 23rd, 2023, officers responded after transit officers reported a passenger refusing to pay his fair on a local bus. Here's what happened when officers finally caught up with a vehicle. >> I ain't had enough money to pay you for my >> I let you waste them time. I let you waste their time so they could come. So whatever you trying to talk about is nothing to talk about. Sit down. >> What happened? He trying to call you to keep me off the bus cuz I ain't paying my full. >> Okay. >> So I just sitting and waiting till y'all come to tell you I ain't pay my full. That's why you keep me off the bus. What else you want to talk about? >> You want to hear NONE OF THAT. >> YOU DON'T WANT TO HEAR NONE of this. Hey, bro. >> Yeah, let's talk. >> Hey, don't go nowhere, honey. What's up? Talk to nobody. As soon as the bus stops, the suspect pushes his way out. But officers step in, determined to get answers before letting him walk away. >> Other guy, I was short. I was short on my fear. The other guy offered to pay my fear. He wanted respect. He ain't getting it. >> Yo, bud. >> Yo, what you want to talk about? Yo, if you me and violate my right, I waste all my money just to violate you, bro. That's all I'm letting you know from right now. I waste all my money just to violate you. my 41k or all that. Just to violate you, bro. All right. >> Yo, what? >> You're not going anywhere. We need your ID. >> Not touching for what? Forget off the bus. Off the bus. >> No. All right. I got off the bus. He He had the door locked till y'all come. How can I get off? >> You're not showing no ID. None of that, man. Nobody's trying to hurt you. >> Breaking my rights. We're not breaking your rights. That's >> We're not asking. I'm under arrest. >> Nope. You're detained, though. >> Why? I'm detained. >> So, we can ID you so that the bus company knows that you're not allowed back on the bus. The only reason he's from New Jersey doesn't talk about where you from. That that doesn't make sense. I'm not getting my ID. My boy go ahead. I'm late. >> Your rights. You're going to be arrested if you feel ID. Why you going to do that? >> What I'm being arrested for? >> Failure to give ID. >> Failure ID. ID. All right. I like to see you put that in court. I just got off a public transportation. Whatever you got to say. >> Why you got to make things so difficult? >> Yo, whatever you got to say. >> Well, I'm not seeing you nicely, sir. >> No, you wouldn't talk to me like that. >> I've been talking to you nicely since the second. >> I got a white shirt cuz y'all been doing too much. I'm the supervisor writing. >> All right. So, what else have we got to talk about? >> Your identification and that's it. >> No. >> You say no, then you're going to be. It's Sunday. I'm going to go do >> get your name then and your date of birth. You'll be good. >> All right. >> Yo, miss. I got somewhere to go. >> You got somewhere to go. >> You can make it real quick by just here as soon as possible. >> Give me your name and date of birth. >> B. I don't have my ID. So, how you going to know my real name? My date of birth. >> Your name is Dana B. If you have an ID, >> I don't have no arrest record. So, you're not going to find nothing on me. >> That's not how that works. No, I do not have none of that person. >> Daniel. >> Daniel. >> After trying to dodge the bus fair, the suspect now attempts to dodge officers as well by refusing to identify himself. But he quickly learns they're not entertaining any of his games. >> Macintosh. M >> D A N I E L. >> M A C I N T O S H. >> What's your date of birth? said it. >> And what's your date of birth? You >> say that? I just said it. >> All right. What's your date of birth? >> Daniel, what's your date of birth? >> I just said it. What's your date of birth? 95. >> What month? What year? And what day? >> I don't know what year. >> Sorry. >> I'm going to give you one more warning. >> I told you 95. >> Give me I'm done talking. I'm not talking. >> All right, we're done. Go ahead. Arrest me. >> Okay. You're under arrest. Put your hands behind your back. >> Nope. It's illegal. Arrest. >> What you doing? >> Let go of your phone. You're under arrest. It's not supposed to be this way, Daniel. >> Yo, my property. >> You going to ride for free, too? >> Look, all you tast ID me and let me go. Yo, why you pulling me that way? >> We're going to search you before you put you in the car. >> Don't search me. It's illegal in search. Just remember that. >> And I want all y'all badge numbers. They'll be on their arrest report. >> No problem. I'll write hand I'll handw write it for you. >> Who's uh your clothes on? Go through this while you're here too. >> What they do? They take you through the news transit. >> Watch. Let me show you how violent I am. If y'all want to come play with me, stop it. >> What is this? Don't worry about that, cuz >> Huh? >> Don't worry about that. >> Once the cuffs are on, officers begin checking his belongings and quickly find something that seriously complicates his situation. Tyrant talk about some legal search. They're legally searching me right now. They're legally searching me right now. >> Yeah, we have no containers here. >> They're legally searching me right now. >> Just throw everything on top of this bag. All of this is going out. That's not my ass like I'm going be carrying. Let me get my hat. >> Let me get it for you. >> Oh, that's not your name. Daniel's not your name. >> Perfect. >> You're a right so you know that's another charge. You will be charged with arresting us innocent for no reason. >> You know what I'm going to do when I get out? I'm going to take out my anger when I get out. All is going to happen. >> Put your Put your leg. All right. >> Have fun. >> Yo, my my earpiece. My property. My property. >> Sit down. Sit in the car. >> You jump. >> I'll spit on you. You're a tyrant. I'll spit on you right now. This Look what you're doing. >> Sit in the car. >> Talking about sitting the car. Did I told the price my property that fell out off me? >> What's that? >> My property. >> Yeah, they have it. They picked it up, >> right? All right. Didn't have a seat in the car. >> Can I get it right now? >> No, you're not getting it right now. >> It's in the >> Have a seat in the car. >> All right. >> Although he's already in serious trouble, the suspect still chooses to argue, continuing to challenge officers at every turn. >> Swing your feet in, please. >> How the ass is the seat belt right there. Look. >> Swing your feet in. >> Look how where I'mma go. Where I'mma go? >> Your feet go in there. >> Open that. >> It goes over here when you >> Exactly. Can you open that side? >> No, you don't open it. There you go. Swing. You can do it. >> There you go. >> Keep going. >> Yeah. Okay. But it starts right here. >> Keep it uh badge number two. >> I want all y badge number two. >> I want all y badge number two. You show how heavy. I'm coming right to New Jersey. That was sick. Oh, last >> 19 round one male 41 starting 6007.1. Look this how they they end up coming to a small tyrant by police officer. They wouldn't I don't know who gave them the right to come police give them the up right moral just like the church where do we find the most demons in the church where you find the most bad people >> while officers escort report him from the scene. The suspect speaks his mind and the hostility behind his words shocks those watching the situation unfold. >> I can of course I just don't know if anybody would like the rep. And it was a funny part and see one black was good put me in jail by the time I go to jail right anybody authority [ __ ] up my legal money be sick. Just so they can come arrest me. What do y'all think I'm coming? Arriving 103 ending 6007.2 close port. After the incident, the suspect was charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing an investigation. Number one woman thought she found an easy way to get a $40,000 truck until the police got involved. On May 8th, 2024, officers received a call from a rental company reporting that a woman had kept one of their trucks for months despite the agreement being shortterm. Here's what happened when officers finally confronted her. >> Is that your husband or whatever over there? >> How is this How is it? >> Well, you guys didn't return it. Apparently, >> they have they take money out of my account for it every day. >> They reported it stolen. I'm guessing they probably asked you back for it back, too. >> No, they have not. We'll get it figured out. >> What was his name? >> Harley, I think. >> Yes. >> Are you Harley's significant other? >> Yeah. >> Come chat with me. Okay. What's going on with this truck? >> Okay. So, I rented it and um they I they take it every day by the day out of my bank account. So like and I mean uh when I rented it, I paid the 100 I paid the deposit and everything and uh he asked when I wanted to return it and I was like I kind of don't know at the moment because like I'm slowly moving stuff and um he said that that was fine. Just make sure that I'm able to pay it and the deposit stays in the account which they've already I mean there was no way for me to take the deposit out cuz as soon as I swipe my card it was already pending. So I can't use it anyway. It's still pending. >> So what do they charge you a day? It's $39.99 >> a day. >> Yeah. >> And you've been paying that? >> Mhm. Yeah. It showed the last bank statement that I seen, it showed it was coming out. And they still have the pending um $150 deposit that I paid, too. So, I figured that it was good, which my mom did. And to be honest, cuz I don't like to lie, but my mom did say that I should probably check and make sure that which I >> Have you talked with anyone there? >> Um I was I emailed somebody emailed me um for it wasn't somebody. I think it was like an automated thing and it was like uh your rental is you know um how's your rental or something like that. I don't exactly remember exactly what >> they ever say anything to you about it being overdue. >> No, I don't have nothing. Not that not that I remember. No, I don't have I don't think so. Nope. Actually, no. >> They have your phone number and email it sounds like, right? >> Mhm. Yeah. >> You're up to date information? >> They have my email. Yeah. I don't know about they should My phone is I was getting ready to get one today. It's off. So, but um not off. It's on, but I don't have my phone. And my mom was gonna buy me one today. >> Okay. >> A simple question turns into a long- winded answer. And for the officers, that alone signals something isn't adding up. >> Um, so is this this is in your name? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Is your ID out of here in Illinois? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> And I I mean I did I I don't know. I saw that it would be okay, I guess. Did you ever have an agreed upon date to bring it back? >> Um, >> do you have a copy of your rental agreement somewhere? >> I did, but I don't honestly know. I mean, it might be at home somewhere. Um, >> well, just just from my experience, both as a police officer professionally and then personally renting cars, there's normally an agreed upon >> date to bring it back. Did that ever happen? Um, >> I don't I think that I just rented it and I swear I >> I mean it it would be very obvious on the paperwork or whatever they emailed to you if that was the case. So when they checked the paperwork, is there going to be a return date is what I'm asking. >> Um, I really there might be honestly I I but I was pretty sure that I said that I wasn't 100% sure. >> Okay. >> But I could be wrong. Well, when I got the truck, it I was moving and I was in the process of trying to get a car and >> Okay, >> it's been I've had a lot going on. So, >> I get that, but it doesn't necessarily mean you can just keep the rental indefinitely cuz then they report it stolen because they don't have their car back. I mean, this is a a nice truck. Probably cost them a bunch of money, >> you know? They can't just rent it indefinitely. Does that make sense? >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And I guess I thought that that it was okay cuz >> like just pay for it, you know, like like I was I guess. I don't know. >> What's your husband's name? Harley or something. >> Yeah, >> he's got a warrant, so that's why he's in handcuffs right now. Plus, he hopped in the driver's seat. Yeah. >> Faced with a signed agreement, the suspect still avoids giving clear answers, though officers soon use her own logic to expose the holes in her story. Um, I'm being told that they double checked the penalty agreement and it was a one-day rental. >> Yeah, that's what I was just telling where he went. But I was just telling him that I said that I wanted to um like I was telling you that I I didn't know like exactly how long. So I told him I was like for now one day. So then I you know like I said for now one day and then I was like I didn't know how long I was going to need it. So I figured since >> Okay. >> But um >> I get what you're saying. Well, let's let's just got to think about this. >> I know. >> Let's say you loan your friend a car for one day. When do you expect the car back? >> In one day. >> Okay. Do you think that the Pensky probably thinks the same thing of their probably 40 something,000 truck? >> Probably. Yeah. But I didn't even, you know, think of it like that, I guess. >> Yeah. Well, >> I like I mean he seemed he was I was like I don't know how long I I'll say one day, but I said I I know it's not going to happen in one day, so just I mean I play it day by day. He's like, okay, sounds good. So I thought that was okay. >> That's I'm guessing you probably had to sign uh something some sort of rental agreement >> whether electronically or with the patent. >> I believe so. I think I did it before. >> Okay. Did you read it? >> Uhuh. >> All right. Well, we should probably do that just so there's no questions about when it needs to be returned or what could happen if it's not returned. You know what I mean? Okay. Um, so how long have you had it? >> I >> I don't have their report there. >> He said he said February. I thought that that >> I didn't I know. I didn't realize when he said February. That's nice. >> When he said February, it was like um >> if it was a month-long runaway, you would have been way over. >> That's what I said. like he he said February and I was like really I didn't feel like it I mean it was cheaper it's cheaper than a rental car so I was like whatever I'll just pay that by the day I didn't >> uh wow >> she doubles down on her version of events but given what the contract actually states officers aren't convinced by her claims >> well >> and I was paying for I mean >> I'll tell you that these rental companies like Pensky and U-Haul they have an extraordinary amount of leniency when it comes to returning these like a lot. Like it could be probably a month overdue and they might still not call us. Well, they called about this one and reported >> probably because since February apparently. >> Have you had it here in town? >> Um yeah. I mean >> up at your apartment. >> Okay. >> I mean I I mean like I said I been driving it. I have I mean they had to just record it. I don't know how long ago it was, but I mean, like I said, I've had a year. >> What about uh Harley here? >> Does When did he think this rental agreement was supposed to be over? >> He doesn't He don't really pay attention. That's what I do. >> That's all I mean. >> Did you ever talk about it with him? >> No, cuz we don't. >> Well, then I'll get >> It's my money, so I basically just >> Has he been driving it? >> No, I drive it. I was still shopping when they were sitting in the car. So, >> he hopped in the driver's seat. That's why I'm asking. >> Yeah, I know. Uh he they were he well from what I was told I mean they were just sitting. I mean I was in there shopping. They were all we were all in there actually. They came out before me because the lady charged me for like um I had three items. She charged me for four. She accidentally scanned something twice. So I got back in line. >> Okay. >> And returned it and then got my $5 back that she >> Okay. >> So they all came out here waiting on me. >> Okay. So there's obviously a discrepancy on the time that you were supposed to have this vehicle, right? I mean, I just >> I take I take I I mean, >> I I get Listen, I get lied to you for a living. I just find it very difficult to believe that you >> didn't think you had to return it after like that one day. >> It's not that I didn't think I I just thought that I mean, I'm I'm being 100%. I really thought that since I was paying by the day, >> I mean, you're an adult, >> it would be okay. >> You're an adult. Realizing her argument isn't working, the suspect tries appealing to the officer's sympathy. But they quickly remind her that actions like this always come with consequences. You're a mom. You make a lot tougher decisions than when that needs to be returned. Right. I mean, >> you're right. And I and I and I I I am a mom and and things have been tough for me and including not having I mean a vehicle. So, like when I think about things like, you know, $39 is okay. I already got the car. I thought it was okay. You know, I mean, that was another tough decision that >> Yeah. >> very hard to make because I >> Hey, I get it. I see how it could be very difficult, but at the same time, >> very difficult. I just got I just had gotten a car. >> Okay. >> And the bank approved me and everything and then they reassigned the my car back to the um the dealership and they couldn't find me a new creditor so they just came and took my car cuz I couldn't pay them the full $7,000. >> Yeah. It's been one thing after another. It's it's it's a never ending struggle. >> Yeah. I mean, we we're dealing with people on their worst days and in the grand scheme of things, you're doing all right compared to a lot of people. Today is my birthday, too. >> Is it really? I did not understand. >> Happy birthday to me. >> Okay. >> Well, here the the issue is I if if you're falling on hard times and you're trying to find reliable transportation, >> you can't just not turn around. >> I know. I know, >> right? >> I know. I mean, it's wrong. >> You're right. >> Okay. >> I mean, you wouldn't tell your your kid that that's okay, right? >> All right. Taser in my >> Okay. >> pocket. >> That's fine. You can put it back in your pocket. >> Okay. >> You don't have anything else in your pockets, right? >> No. >> Okay. I'm going to just face my vehicle and put anything in your back. >> The case ultimately ends with a suspect being charged with possession of a stolen vehicle as well as theft by deception. What's your verdict? Let me know in the comments and I'll see you in the next video. As always, stay safe out there, folks.
