That's what I need to talk to both parties to see what's going on. He's okay right now. >> Okay. >> You don't have his number? >> No, I don't. Well, let me see. Actually, maybe. >> Okay. >> Is he not home? >> No, he's not home right now. >> H Okay. Let me Let me see if I can find his number. >> Thank you. >> Okay. >> I'm his father. I don't need you a hard time, sir. >> I'm I'm not trying to get you a hard time either. >> You trampled on my rights. >> Okay. >> Please step off the curage of my home. >> Well, listen to me. I'm investigating something. >> Cage of my home. >> I'm investigating something. Okay. >> Okay. Thank you. Please step off the court privilege of my police, sir. >> Okay, I got his number. Do you want me to call him? >> The man tries to claim his son is not inside the residence, but the truth comes out fast. The teen is still around and he's more than willing to speak with the police. >> Hello. >> Hello. >> Hey, this is Deputy Sonny with Kon Sheriff's Office. >> All right. >> Hey, I just want to >> Hey, uh, you're the one who called? >> Yeah. earlier. >> Okay. Are you here? >> Uh, yeah. I'm in the back right now. >> Okay. Can you come out? Your father is not very compliant with us. So, >> okay. I'm in socks right now and the back door is locked. So, >> I'm kidding. >> All right. Thank you, sir. >> I'm still I'm talking to him right now. So, when he comes out, >> he is a minor, sir. Thank you. >> Is there a mother or anybody else in the house? Okay. >> I'm his father. Thank you so much. >> Okay. >> Can you please give me a little space here, sir? >> I'm not You have your You have the whole door, man. village remain home, sir. >> Hey, what's up? >> All right, >> dude. Stay away, please. >> Thank you for saying you have a card, sir? >> Yeah. Well, I'm going to have to talk to you. Okay. Just so you know, this is a >> This is an ongoing investigation. Okay. >> Good. Please. No, I'm going to have to talk to you like in person. >> Talk to me right now, sir. >> Okay. Well, give me a second. Let me talk to your son first. >> Please leave your card right here, sir. Give a card, sir. >> Okay. Well, I need I need >> Jesus Christ. >> Jesus. >> Are you injured or anything? >> A little bit. Not that bad. It's fine. >> Okay. Do you want >> I got Jesus Christ. Sam, >> don't try to hit me with the chair, dude. Please. >> Please. Please. >> Get your shoes on. >> All right. Don't close the door, man. >> I'm right here, sir. I'm right here, sir. Call my lawyer. >> Yeah, call your lawyer, but don't close the door on me. >> He's not very compliant. >> Hey, how are you? >> The man refuses to step outside, brushing off his son's concerns by saying he's just a teenager who doesn't know any better. But the officers know better than to ignore a call like this. >> What's going on, man? Why are we here? >> Okay. All right. >> What you got, my man? >> Do you have a card, sir? I do. I'll get It's in my car. I'll get it later. >> Huh? >> What's that? >> Sir, >> I'll get it later. I'm not going to get it now. >> Yeah. >> Have a good day. >> No. What's What's going on? Why are we here? >> Have a good day, sir. Because I got a teenager, sir. That's fine. >> Okay. Well, can you talk to me about it? I have kids. Maybe I understand. >> That's all to say, sir. Thank you. >> Okay. So, your your statement is you have kids and that's why we're here. Sir, would you please step off the privilege of my home? I did ask you for some identification, sir. >> Keller 102. >> Copy of your card. >> Last name, Keller. Badge number 102. >> Okay. Let me get some paper right down. >> Okay. >> Thank you, sir. Good day. >> Oh, Samuel. Okay. Officer 151. Thank you. >> Nope. 102. >> 102. >> All right. Thank you. Why are we here? >> Yeah, it's a good question. But I, like I said, that's my son. I don't want to answer any more questions, sir. >> I'm a father. I'm a single father. >> He's a teenager, sir. >> So, we're here investigating a domestic battery possibly. So, I'd like to get your side of the story, >> sir. I have no uh I have no uh comments for right now. >> You have no comments? >> No. Domestic battery? >> Mhm. >> Father and a son, sir. >> Yeah. Yeah. It qualifies. Thank you, sir. >> So, you don't want to talk to me, >> sir. It's my son. >> I understand. Are you saying you don't want to speak to me? >> Sir, what else is there to say? >> I need to figure out what happened here. That's why we're here. >> Amid the father's arguments, one officer begins speaking with a teen, trying to understand exactly what his father did that prompted the call. >> What caused the argument? Can I see Can I take pictures? >> Uh, yeah. This is from yesterday. >> Cuz we understand. >> He did that yesterday. >> Yeah. You're fighting here. And this is from two days ago. We were fighting in the middle of the street. Um, >> you were fighting in the middle of the street? >> Yeah, it was bad. This is >> Sorry, I've explained this to so many people and no one has helped me, but I'm just kind of tired of explaining the same thing. So, I'm >> Dude, I'm I'm so fed up. >> Can I just show you photos I've been taking of events that's been leading up >> this? We got into a fight a long time ago. Last time it got this bad where I got injured like this. We got into a fight where I was trying to take a shower in the morning. There was no hot water >> and he comes I'm still naked, mind you. He comes breaking down the door while I'm still naked and he tries to hit me. I gave him two black eyes that day. I'm sure if he shows you a photo of that, you understand this this isn't a new thing. This isn't a new thing. >> No, no, no. >> A lot of this is just over. He's been I found out he's been taking my money, which has annoyed me. And he's denied it and he's tried charging me. >> No, go ahead >> to the office and you're going to sit for 72 hours while we figure out what's going on. >> Then why don't you talk to me? Cuz that's our only other alternative. >> I'm not going to sit here and play this back and forth game. >> I know, sir, but this is my son. >> I get it. >> Not a single father. >> I get it. That's why I want to talk to you. And if you refuse to talk to me, you can go sit in our jail for 3 days. >> I don't want to do that for sir. I >> So then let's talk. >> I don't want to leave him >> cuz I do believe he has potential, >> but he could get like this. >> Thank you. >> Information gathered earlier shows a long-standing pattern of substance and alcohol use that damaged the family's relationship. The teen then reveals that his father's recent behavior has gone far beyond what he can handle. >> Okay. Then what happened? Why are we here? >> Okay. What happened today? Today I caught him drinking and I was like, "Dude, you can't keep drinking like this. Can you please get up? 6:00. Can you please get up?" He goes, "In the morning, 6:00 p.m. He's still sleeping." I caught him drinking. I'm like, "Dude, can you please stop drinking 6:00? Please get up." Shut the [ __ ] up. I don't know how it escalated. He tried to hit me. I defended myself and that turned him into pushing me into the chair and trying to hit me in the head. Then he moved from the chair and tried to hit me with the white chair that you can see back there just behind him. It's on the floor right now in the kitchen. And you start hitting with the chair, right? >> Yeah. No, I defended myself from the chair. Then he tried to go back. It was really fast. >> Okay. >> How old is he? >> He can take care of himself. >> So again, if you don't want to cooperate, you can go sit in jail for 72 hours. >> So I'm going to jail for 72 hours. >> If you're not going to give me any part of your story, that's a possibility. >> Uh, let me consult with attorney, please. >> I mean, this is not the time or place for that. You only need an attorney if you're being arrested. And you're arresting me, sir. >> I am not arresting you. Not at this point. No. >> However, if you don't want to cooperate, you will be held on a 72-hour investigative hold. >> Sorry. >> If you don't want to cooperate, you will be held on a 72-hour investigative detention. That is not an arrest, >> dude. No, you're not. Don't show him the name. >> Don't talk to him. Don't >> Ignore him while we figure out what's going on. >> So, he's got injuries. I do believe he can be a cooperative person that does like this, >> but I don't know what happened. I seriously don't. >> Okay. >> He said around six, he told his dad he stopped drinking. He >> was sleeping all night today. He hasn't done anything. >> So he lashed out on him and started beating him. >> He said, "Throw you on the ground and hit you on the head." >> He didn't throw me on the ground. He throw me on the chair. >> On the chair. >> And he tried to hit me. I don't know if there's a bruise on my head. I doubt it. It didn't feel that hard, but he still hit me like around this area. >> Visible marks on the teen raise concern. Yet, there's only so much the officers can do without a safe alternative for him. They speak with him further to understand the family's situation. >> And all the stuff on your left arm is from him. >> Uh, today, yesterday, and two days ago. >> So, yesterday they said they had a fight right there. >> So, you've had fights three days in a row that have gotten physical with your dad? >> Yeah. >> Oh, wonderful. I mean, it's been like this for months, but it's I don't want to be taking like DCFS. I don't want that to be involved because that happened to my brother and I saw how bad that can get. >> I like I said, I do believe it can get better. He's just in this weird phase right now and I just need to be away from I can't I can't be near that. >> I get that. Um >> this hap this has been a story with his family for his entire life. He gets like this during certain point. >> Is your mom in the picture at all? She is, but she lives far far away. >> So, they're not together. >> No, she wants to take me, but I go to school here. >> She hasn't given up parental rights or anything like that. >> Um, he did go to prison a few years ago, so my custody did get handed over to her, but I went back with him, so I'm confused on what that does mean >> for me. >> Anything recent though? >> Any recent custody agreements that you know of? >> No, we haven't. Was it through Kane or a different county? >> I'm not sure. It might have been through Kane, but I'm not 100% on the situation. >> Okay. >> I was only 12 when all had happened. >> Right. Understandable. >> Did you call the police yesterday? >> Uh, no. No. Before that, no. >> Nobody else. >> I was able to fend for myself yesterday. That's why I didn't call. Today was like the first day he actually >> got the upper hand on me in the fight. >> Um, the house has been trash like looks like a homeless person and I've been trying so hard to fix it. This is what it used to look like >> before I started cleaning it. >> Um, I've been pissed cuz he's not been helping me clean it and he just continues to make it worse. I'm like, "Come on, dude. Can you please help me? Can you please help me?" He's like, "Stop. Stop. Just don't clean it. Don't clean it." And he tries to fight me when I'm trying to help him. I don't understand it. >> All right. Give us one minute. Okay. >> Yeah. >> The officers are now convinced the boy can't remain in the home and that his father needs to be taken in. But as they begin to close out the call, it's clear that getting the man to cooperate won't be easy. >> From today? >> Yeah. >> All of this is from yesterday. >> Yesterday. Yesterday. >> Yesterday. Yesterday. >> Two days ago. >> Two days ago. >> And nothing on my head. >> What about this? >> That I'm not sure of. >> Okay. >> That I noticed earlier. >> How you doing, Brian? Hey, >> come here. I need you to come out. >> Under arrest? >> Yes. What's the charge? >> You need to come out. >> Okay. Can I write a phone number down, sir? >> Will you? Yeah, I'll give you a second. Let me put you in handcuffs and then we will give you We will write it down for you. How about that? >> Can I talk to my son, please? Can you just give yourself a little bit of time? >> Just walk out. >> All right. As you're standing here, please talk to my son. >> Yes, you can. But we have to put you in handcuffs first. Okay. >> Hey, any way we can avoid the handcuffs in jail? I got >> All right. Be compliant with us. You know how this goes. You've been you you've been that route before, right, >> Brian? >> So, you need to come out. >> Yeah, you need to come out. >> Am I going to jail? >> Yes, you are going to jail. You need to come out, >> Brian. What's involve? Eventually, the man steps outside, insisting he's done nothing wrong. He claims the issue with his son is just a phase. However, officers remind him that domestic battery isn't just a family matter, but a crime against the state >> or we're going to get rid of the cigarette. >> Just more charges are adding to Stop talking. I'm not we're not charging you. But if you could stop start stop talking, brother, >> just finish your cigarette and then let's get this over with. >> So, here charging. >> Okay. >> Here's the thing with these charges. >> Yes, sir. >> He may be the victim, but it's domestic battery. So, the state becomes the complaintant. >> How's this leak, man? >> The way Illinois law is codified is the victim's in a domestic battery situation. The state becomes the victim. >> The state places a high severity on domestic battery. >> This is my son, a single dad. >> I get it. >> He's going through some teenage stuff, man. >> He's also got injuries. >> Not just >> injuries from what, Sam? Would you? >> Oh, I'm sorry. >> Stop it. >> Just a cigarette. >> Who's pressing the charges? You >> I am. >> Come on. Come on, brother. >> There's no Come on. >> Would you please reconsider, man? >> There. I I literally don't have a choice. If I don't arrest you, I go to jail. >> That's how serious this is. >> Can we sit down and talk, man, over a cup of coffee, please? >> Please, without without >> whoever is with the witness, man. Can we please sit down and talk? >> We can go over to my car and talk. >> We have my son. I mean, you I can talk through to you. >> Talk to me over here. >> Anything on you that's going to poke me, stick me, stab me? >> You got any bullets? [laughter] >> No. >> Alcohol? >> No. >> Knives? Let's say no. >> Any put your left foot in first. >> Put your left foot in. All right. You got a bad thing. >> I can fit fingers in between there. >> What the heck? >> There, brother. 15. >> With a man now secured in the cruiser, the officers return to the teenager for a final round of questions before they leave to escort his father to the station. I >> have to ask you some really stupid questions. I'm open. >> That will sound like I'm talking to a first grader, but >> Serge wants me to do it. >> Okay. >> You have a cell phone? >> Yes. >> Is it charged? >> Yes. >> You know how you know how to call 911? >> Yes. >> Obviously. >> Um, you have food in the house? >> Yes. >> Running water. Yeah. >> Bathroom? >> Yeah. >> Can you shower? >> Yeah. >> You have clothes? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um, >> something happens in the house, you know how to get out? >> Mhm. >> You feel safe staying home? I'm always I'm dist >> from him. >> Um I think that's good. Did we get your phone number? >> I gave it to the guy in the >> Okay. So it'll be attached on the call. >> Your dad's phone number. >> Uh off the top of my head a second. >> The man was later charged with domestic battery with a case still ongoing. Number four. What should have been a proud moment turns chaotic because of outofcontrol parents. On May 24th, 2023, several police officers responded to a distress call from a school. According to reports, some parents instigated and were involved in a physical altercation. Here's what happened when the officers responded to the scene. Break it up. >> POLICE DEPARTMENT, BREAK IT UP. BREAK IT UP. GET YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK. >> GET YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK NOW. [screaming] NOW >> MY CHILD got >> relax. >> Calm down. >> THAT GIRL >> THAT GOT A HEART. >> CALM DOWN. >> I AM SIR. >> My wedding. >> 47. >> Oh my god. Can you check on my We'll check on her, please. 472 85 fox shot over there. >> 85 out of our location handcuffs. >> We're 104. >> I have one female 1015. >> I'm the only one in handcuffs, sir. >> 95. >> You got her? Yeah, I got >> Can you talk to Miss Holland? >> I'll talk to whoever I need to in just a minute. You understand that we just saw about eight people fighting and I'm trying to calm you down. >> Listen to me. Calm down >> and just let me get myself situated. >> Yes, sir. Now that girl we're leaving and that girl big behind girl look like y'all were LEAVING TO ME. YEAH, I PROMISE YOU we were leaving that and they were the witnesses would tell you >> leaving and that girl just did that to my baby. My baby don't even go here. I came for my niece graduation. >> I get it. >> Out of all the people that were Look, that's my daughter. >> Okay. >> The parent in handcuffs is furious and demanding that the other individuals involved join her. Meanwhile, the other officers talked to one of the school's staff to get her account of the events. >> And I'm in hand cuz I Where's the big girl? >> Y'all are all going to jail. I tell you not right now. >> You don't have to worry about that. Y'all are all going. >> Can I talk to Miss? >> No, you're talking to me right now. >> Hey, everybody. Make sure >> ma'am. What's your name? >> Where's Rene? >> Rene. Who the girl is that one in the gate? >> The one I had hold on the gate. No, no, no. We got her. That's Tiana over. >> She the one that got swung on. >> Okay. >> She got swung on cuz I got swung on while walking past her. >> Okay. Well, what happened was Okay. So, this Okay. The the parent that you got hand the parent that you got in handcuff and her daughter. Don't worry about that. >> Okay. >> Okay. Let me give you I'm give you a long short version. >> Okay. She used to go to school and her cousin goes here that they came and you know what Dr. I STARTED NOT TO LET them stay because that's why I move from the front behind sitting there recording. >> So I told her mom I said look I said get your daughter tell her to stop. I said delete all them photos that you got that you were sitting there recording them kids. Them kids you at their school messing with them right. >> So they have something going on outside of school. So how we find out? Because one of the parents who try goes here told us So they've been going back and forth the wide bunch the wide two you know the um wild people they just left out of here >> they had they had got a little bit like in the midst of it through social media. >> Okay. >> So we had put the little fire out with all of them. We said okay no we're not doing this not you know we going to keep this quiet. So when I her mom I was like this ain't a good thing. So that's why I left from there and I had come into the cafeteria and I stood right behind them. So then we had said, "Okay, parents, you all go ahead and go out first." >> So when the parents went out, okay, >> according to the teacher's testimony, one of the parents and her child were causing a commotion during the ceremony despite being told not to. The officers now confront the disruptive parent who is aggressive and uncooperative from the get-go. >> Jazz was out there with D. >> I want four out there. >> Okay, we [clears throat] >> Hey, Jeff, get with her. find out what transpired with >> with the fact that she saw what actually occurred. >> I just want to just get let's start off with that. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Uh you don't need to sit down or anything. >> I got a first aid kit. >> That does not make sense. It >> don't make sense if you yelling. I'm right here. >> I'm talking. Can I see her? >> No. Not right now. >> We can't see. >> Come back over here to the hallway, please. >> Ma'am, we got to stop yelling. We got to start. You said you said you said this is your niece, correct? This is your niece, correct? >> No. >> All right. >> I'm talking no. >> I can get my kids out of here. >> I can get my kids out of here. >> You want to provide You want to provide a statement about I'm provide a statement now. I wasn't here. >> Well, you're doing too much. I want to get your side. >> This is my kid. >> Ma'am, you need to wait outside, please. >> Come on, sir. I'm coming. I'm coming. >> You I can wait outside. It don't even make sense. >> I'm going to ask you. Do you want to provide a statement? >> All y'all here, but it's nobody. >> To the right. to the right. >> No, I'm getting my kids. >> Ma'am, I'm getting my kids. >> You are going to leave this property. If I have to tell you again, you're going to go to jail. >> I can't get my kids >> because you are disrupting a school procedure right now. And if I continue to tell you to leave the building, you are going to go to jail. >> Do not try to reenter this school. >> Miss, can y'all please call for me, please, so I can go home? Please don't make a right to meet you. >> I'm not I have to come back. I got to get my >> The officer goes back to question one of the parents involved in the scuffle. The woman tries to plead her case, but the officer shuts her down by showing her how this situation could have been easily avoided. >> So, and >> I want to read you your concession >> cuz I'm I'm so I took my >> Well, I understand you're sick of the school, but right now I'm trying to interview you as a police officer. It's just >> like this situation. I I couldn't. The girl ran out the freaking door and jumped on us and I'm being arrested. Like literally. >> Do you want to talk about this situation? If not, I need to read you. If you do, I need to read you your rights. >> If you don't, that's that's fine with me. I just I just rather you talk about it than anything. But >> you not even trying to listen to me. You You judge me off real when you when I realize you was the police. >> I did stop like at that point everything is going like that. I see big overhind girl and parent on my daughter. >> Well, here's what I'm worried about. I'm worried about the fact that you are inside a school. Let me talk real quick. You're inside of a school with young children outside playing games and having a good time. And all I see is three, four people, decentized adults that could have had the maturity to stop fighting. Or somebody could have said, "Hey, officers, we got an issue over here instead of y'all swinging on one another in a playground with school children. Y'all could have hurt the kids, swinging all around. >> Hang tight back here, ma'am." >> Yes, ma'am. And I'm telling you to hang tight, please. We're doing an interview. by you coming up here asking what the hell's going on is not going to help the situation. Okay. >> I know it ain't going to help situation. I know that. >> So you go ahead and go back to the front of the school. >> I ain't worried about that. I'm worried about >> Is there any way we can put her in a car? >> All right. >> All right, ma'am. We're going in the car now. >> You can't. >> I'm going to tell you one more time. Go back to the front of the school. If not, you're going to go to jail. >> Can I ask you a question? >> What is that? go back to the front of the school. [music] >> The police sergeant decides to take a crack at the woman. She tries to convince him that she's not the one at fault in this case, pointing her fingers at the true culprit. >> My daughter, give me my key. >> Go back to the front of the school. >> We got separated. It's the parents that all on us after we got separated is when the police I realized, oh, the police, he pushed me over. >> No, before No, no, no, no. Before that, before that, at some point, the girl that with the white shirt, the one that that that came at your daughter. >> Yes. >> At one point they were separated. >> Okay. And then when they were separated, >> you all went because No, it's it's it's No, no, no. It's not been an ongoing is incident. It has been baby out this school. >> Why? Let me ask you this. Why would you bring her up here? >> I didn't even know it was not. I swear to God. >> No, I'm ask Let me ask the question. Why would you, if you knew that this tension was going on, why would you bring her up here? >> I say the school tension is always from drama. >> No, it's No, it's drama. There's been drama with you in there because you acknowledged that when she was trying to videotape the girl. >> She wasn't trying to see. That's what I'm saying. Miss Hollis is Miss Holl is standing her knees. >> She wasn't taking a I didn't correct. >> Sir, I promise to God. I'm not lying. She wasn't taking no picture of no video. >> That girl wasn't even in there. >> I swear to God. >> What girl wasn't in there? >> The one that my daughter was fighting. She was not in there >> in the uh in the room in there. >> Yeah. In the cafeteria. >> Okay. All right. >> Literally. >> Okay. >> See, that's what I'm saying. And I'm suing this school because this lady always taking up for this girl. >> After getting a better picture of the situation, the officers decide that it's time to hand out charges. Needless to say, the woman in the cruiser does not like what she hears from them. >> Here, I want to get her out, right? And then this will be the party that they need cuz you need a steak. The parents is here. I mean >> that's what I'm saying. >> That's my sister. She can. Yes. >> Okay. >> So that's why I was trying to get all the other parties everybody out so they can get and then we >> with the school line by some. >> She was taking a picture of >> Yes. She was taking a picture of my niece doing like this rolling her. See this what I mean? >> No, because I told him to roll the window up. But you were talking. >> Um, can I just ask my sister one thing? >> Sure. >> What's your sister's name? >> Tina. >> Tina. >> Tina. >> God going to do something to you. Like seriously, you don't even have to be that nasty. >> I haven't disrespected you damn time. >> She wanted to speak. Call Uncle Ellis and have my phone as soon as I >> So what? They >> I'm the only person going to jail. The girl I don't care. That girl came out and jumped on. >> I didn't I didn't invite her over to for you to have >> Oh yeah. I'm sorry. I apologize. >> I wanted to ask you that though, but >> I just want >> Hold on. He He called me right. Just um have Ellis know something. >> I'm about to call cuz he told me to call him this morning too. And while his wife attempts to calm him down, her efforts do little to deescalate the situation. Tensions are building fast. If I come down these stairs, me and you are going to wrestle. >> We are not going to wrestle. I can guarantee you that. Why don't Why don't you just have a seat >> for what? >> So I can do my job. >> Your job is done. >> My job is not done. >> Bye. >> All right. They're behind me. Hey. Hey. Hey. Do not move. Do you understand me? Get your other hand back here. With the situation finally under control, the man is cuffed and removed from the home. After his combative behavior, multiple charges are now on the table. >> I didn't tell you to move. Let's go, >> dude. Hey, hey, hey. I I'm being serious. >> I don't care what you are. This was simple. What you had to do was you had to follow. >> No. What was simple is I shut my door and I told you I didn't need you. >> I didn't care. >> Hey, he walked in my house. Un unlock. >> Do not move your hands. Do you understand me? >> Shut you get off your power trip real quick, bud. >> You put you need to stop or you're getting ready to go back on the ground. Well, the kid called. >> The kid called? >> Yeah. >> That's fine. I'm fine. Charges. >> Tina, are you okay? Yeah. All right. >> According to the daughter, her mother has done nothing to stop the abuse. And soon, officers will uncover why she chose not to report it. I'm >> I'm not upset that he's going. I'm very grateful. But he's going to get released and come right back. So, it's going to do us no good. Just holes in our balls cuz look at all these fire And finally, because he keeps yelling at my daughter. And so finally I said next time he raises his voice over your and and call 911 so he doesn't know that I did it because I can't get by myself long enough just to get him to go cuz I can't stand the verbal abuse and him breaking everything every time I blink. >> Yeah, you know you're you're a little dog. I guarantee it. and I will [clears throat] press charges on this. >> We have one son together, but I have four other children and my children are biracial, those four. And I'm so tired of all the time recently hearing Nick this and Nick that and because I went and I didn't ask him for permission to buy that Jeep two and a half, three years ago. I get I didn't have to hear about that all the time. And I co and I bought a or got a loan and for my oldest son for his truck and and like he's in here trying to slam and everything and going on and carry on because I bought my or he thinks I only cosign but cosigned him and choking and what if he wants something he should I should be able to cosign for him. Oh, I hope they let you out cuz I'll let my dog out. I don't need to and my dog is going to Trust me, they can't do to me. I didn't do anything wrong. >> Turning back to the mother, the officer presses for more details about the damage left behind by the man. >> All right. Well, what did he break? What did he break tonight? >> Nothing yet. >> Okay. [snorts] >> Just slamming everything around. You know, it's it's getting ready to You see, this is how he fixes holes when he scotch tapes them. And I can't even use my stove because he flung kitchen uh a couple weeks ago and shattered the glass of the stove. >> Okay. >> All right. >> The most She's right. The most we're going to be able to take him for is resisting. Then he's just going to go out. >> Tina, >> here he goes. Yep. Let me go. No, I'm done. You ain't gonna want this lawsuit cuz y'all going to get a lawsuit. Trust me. Slam my face, walked in my house with no warrant, threatened to tase me. Let's see how that holds up in court. >> The officers now turned to the eldest daughter whose call for help set everything in motion. I feel like I can't I feel like I can be out here when he's not here. Cuz when he's not here and I'm out here, I can just like sit here and chill with my mom and everyone else and I'm I'm fine. But as soon when he's here, I feel like he can't do that cuz he either pesteres me or bothers me or yells at me for something. So, I kind of just stay in my room the entire time. >> Okay. So, what do you what do you want done? What What do you want to happen here? I want I want to know how I can get him just to be out of here for good. >> Okay. Has anybody talked to you about getting it like an emergency restraining order protection or anything? No. >> Okay. >> I don't even know anything about those. >> Okay. So, what I'm going to recommend is uh go up to the Washington County Courthouse in Nashville. Okay. Go meet with uh usually the circuit clerk or somebody. They have they have an advocate there who can help you get the papers filed. But essentially, you you fill out the form. It goes to the judge and you tell the judge, "Hey, this is why this is what's going on." You know, you tell him the history. >> Chris was praying to God last beginning of this month. They were going to keep him when he went to court, but they just gave him another court date and extended it all the way out to June. Hi. >> All right, boss. going to slide out. You good? >> All these guys for me. >> As a result of the incident, the man was booked for domestic battery and resisting arrest. Number two, when the truth about an abusive mother finally comes to light. For our next case, officers responded to a welfare check involving a mother and her daughter. Here's how the encounter unfolded. >> Any weapons on you, right? >> No. >> Okay. Can I just make sure? Do you do you mind taking a seat and I could talk to you right here? >> Are you okay? Do you do you >> Let me show you my No, she attacked me. My hip may be uh sore. >> Well, do you want me to get you an ambulance? >> No, because you all take me there and then you talk about psychotic. I'm not I'm tired of that crap. I just talked to my people. I'm moving and she not going to know where I'm moving to. >> All right. Can you just set that down and can we just talk? >> I need to find out what happened today. I [clears throat] got to make sure. >> Okay. >> You guys are okay and all that just told you about 10 minutes ago. >> I know, but I got to see if you have any injury. Can I see your >> Oh, yeah. You can take a seat first and I'll I'll see if there's any injury. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> And then whatever injury you have on your body, I'll have a female officer come and check that. Okay. >> Okay. >> All right. Can I see your head? >> Okay. Yeah, you can do it. I don't have a dent, but she hurt my hip. >> Okay. >> But she body slam me. >> She said she grabbed you by your hair. >> Yeah, she grabbed me by my hair. See how nappy it is? It >> just got done, you Can we see that actual injury if there's >> no ain't no she >> no visible injury? >> No, she pulled my hair and slammed me back. That's why my hip is hurting. >> Okay. All right. You sure you want me to get you an ambulance to make sure your hips okay? >> I'm fine. I just want her to leave my house today. She can't be evicted right now, but when I go to to renew my lease, I'm moving and she won't know where I'm at. >> Okay. All right. Um K start off by getting her >> work with me to get her out of the house. Okay. So, >> once they assess her wounds, the officers press for more details on what exactly led to the confrontation. >> I need to live by myself. None of these kids, none of my sisters, none of my family members need to uh if you go looking in that drawer, officer, you right. Tell them he right. I heard she's a behavioral candidate. Okay. But not this time. I took my medicine. I took my medicine early this morning. Some money. Yes. I'm about to take it to calm down, but I would like her to go to my sister house. Do you think I should stay here? Look how I look. >> I I wouldn't recommend it. No. >> Okay, I'm going to stay here. I want her to go. This is my apartment. May I show her show you my section 8 lease? >> No. No. I I know all that. I want to know. No, no, it's okay. I want to figure out what happened today with the battery. So, you said you >> I was trying to ask her about some fried chicken, >> correct? >> Okay. Um because of it my stomach is little. Okay. >> I can't eat everything and all things. So we just went to a restaurant. Okay. >> All of you guys, all three of you. We went to some place. She wanted to stop. I don't want to stop. I want to go home and fry me some chicken is what I'm thinking. But she stopped off and say, "I'm going to treat you." She act like she's my man. >> And how long have you guys been living together? >> We've been living together since 2024. Okay. >> Okay. So, since last year. >> Yeah. And I didn't know. No, I did know. I asked her I asked her I I had written a a le a 30-day notice for her to move. I did not no longer need her services. >> As more details come to light, the officers learned that the mother and daughter have a complicated history and a past involving law enforcement. >> The women are here. >> She was taking care of you, correct? Before that's what she was initially supposed to do. >> No, she's on my lease as a section 8 candidate. >> Okay. If I ask her to no longer be here to work for me, she has to leave. >> Okay. Does she have any other place she can go? You said your sister. >> She has a place for Yes. I've talked to my sister. She was trying to buy a house. She keeps saying this. She been saying this for like eight years now. >> Okay. >> Okay. And then just to make sure, so injury-wise, you said she only pulled your head. Do you Do you know Do you have any >> She didn't pull my hair. She yanked it. She yanked in and threw you on the floor and you can see >> threw me on the floor and you can see my hip >> and you said you got a hip. >> My hip is hurt, but I don't want to go to no hospital. >> Okay. Do you mind if I get a female officer just to make sure to see and take a picture of your hip? >> They do that stuff and it don't matter. >> Do you? >> Like I said, >> do you mind if she does it though? >> Yeah, I do mine. >> So, you don't want a picture taken? Okay. >> Okay. What I do want What I do want I want to at this point show you the lease where she's supposed to take care of me. >> Yeah. I've been here before. I remember seeing the lease. So I I've been here before. So >> and they told me then if she have another time that they could ask her to leave. >> Mhm. >> Okay. I got you. >> I didn't know if you were talking. I didn't know what >> And I do not When I leave, she has to leave Aurora. She should go back to South Holland. >> The officers turned their attention to gathering more context about the mother and daughter's history, not just the conflict at hand. >> She worked, it's quicker for her to get to work than out here. Number one. >> Mhm. >> The reason why I moved out here making facilitating her this address, my section 8, >> was because she was supposed to work at Thompson, which her behavior, I found out later, was under investigation. >> Where's Thompson? that Thompson somewhere uh a couple hours from here. Ask her. She's supposed to tell you. >> Okay. [clears throat] >> So, I got your whole story. I'm going to be taking a report for it. All that stuff. The domestic battery that you know you said happened, all that stuff. >> And she going to stay here. >> So, where we're at right now, um I got her set of stuff. She's figuring that out right now. >> Tell her I like my keys and I like her to leave. >> Okay. Well, >> I I would like her She got the car. My name is on that car note as a co-signer. I will not take the car from her, but I want my keys so I can lock the door so she can do no sneaky sneaky stuff on me tonight. >> Okay, we'll get you the keys. I need anything. >> No, I want my keys. >> She's being let out in cuffs, but it's clear that she's still more concerned with removing her daughter from the apartment's lease than reflecting on her own actions. All right, Lisa, you you're cool with these slippers or >> Tell her I need my keys. >> We'll get you the keys. We got to get you down here first. We'll figure out the keys. >> You got to go. >> You need to go >> this way. Lisa, >> you can call you. Britney, I belong to a police officer family a long time ago, so I kind of know the procedure. >> All right. You save your time. And we don't want you falling down the stairs. So, >> okay. >> Toasty. >> Oh, I just wanted to say >> we had called about their warning me and my daughter and they told us they had dismissed Well, they didn't dismiss the case, but what they said I had to pay $2,000 in fine, but she said she was going to court my daughter. So, >> she keeps arguing with the officers about their decision, but at this point, nothing she says will change the outcome. >> Yeah, like I said, yours. >> Okay. Tell the officer to get my phone. >> Okay. >> Okay. Because I will make making a phone call to my daughter. Maybe she can show up and tell the judge that mom was being attacked. And then we'll bring those shoes with you. >> Where's your van at? Right over here. >> Okay. >> Watch step right over here. You okay? >> It's unsettling to see the woman barely able to walk as she's escorted to the transport vehicle, but based on the daughter's statements and the evidence collected, the officers know they can't look the other way. >> Hold me over here. >> Yep. All right, I got you. There it is. All right. One, two, three. All right, we'll do another one. Ready? All right, we'll help you up. Try to lift up. There it is. One, two, three. Watch your head. Then last one, right? One, two, three. >> All right. Sit against the wall over there. Okay. One of those seats. Left or right. >> Okay. >> All right. It's a more comfortable ride if you scoot. >> The woman was ultimately charged with domestic battery. Number one, when a mother's cruelty leaves even the police in shock. On March 29th, 2024, officers were called to a home in Florida after a concerned grandmother reported that her daughter may be putting her children in danger. Listen to the alarming call, which paints a disturbing picture of what's been happening behind closed doors. >> You asked me if I was high. Not once have I ever denied to it. I respect you on a different level because I'm a mother and I'm trying because I don't lie to you anymore. I stop lying to you. MAYBE IT'S A LITTLE LI WHERE I AM. But when you honestly ask me if I'm getting high, I have not once lied. I've told the truth. And so you being over here yesterday, you yelling at me saying I'm acting like this cuz I was high got me upset. Well, no, that wasn't it. I was I was at your house an hour prior and I was perfectly fine. I was upset because I got worked up because you came startled me. I had somebody over that I knew you wouldn't approve of. There was my house disgusting. It's still disgusting. And I was sitting on the counter outward. I didn't want you to. I was trying to respect you as my mother and my kids's grandmother and you not see that so I also wouldn't get in trouble. [snorts] That's why I was so upset. Do I Cararissa stir pot 10 times more than what it needed to be? I re I and I'm upset. That's it. That's all I have to say. >> Okay. Your mental state, Ashley, is because you're doing is what I have to say. >> Oh my god. Mom, what I repeat what I said. And I'm going to repeat. I'm going to repeat. No, but Ashley. Ashley though. I'm going to repeat. No, I let I let you talk. I let you talk. >> Since January since January, MOM SINCE JANUARY. I >> let you talk. Now you're going to let me talk. >> Okay. Well, then please. I'll let you talk. Then please. I'm getting so worked up because you are you are all I have >> and I'm here actually. And I'm here. And I'm letting you know. I'm letting you know you not being Now I let you talk. I let you talk. Now you're going to let me talk. >> While Ashley defends her behavior by blaming burnout and pressure from parenting, her mother draws a firm line, stating that needing rest is not an excuse for putting children at risk. >> And you you I mean that mentally right now, Ashley, because you're not doing right. You're not doing right. You literally want to >> You want to kill Madison? You kill Madison over the edge. >> So you your child. >> Oh my god. Mom, you're all I have >> and I'm here. And I'm here, Ashley. And I'm here trying to tell you how I feel. >> And I'm listening. >> Now you're going to twist everything. >> You literally just said I want Madison. >> Okay, then let me reward my words. >> Then please reward them. pushes me to the edge. >> And that's why I tried to take Madison and Kylie yesterday. >> All of them. >> I Ashley, I tried to take the two. I'm equipped to take at the moment. Ashley, >> I need a break. >> You get Ashley. You You get a break. They go to daycare. And you don't work. You don't work all day. Ashley, you don't work all day. You're You're at work maybe hours at their daycare and you're partying the rest of the time and know it. Mom, you're wrong. >> No, I'm not. I'm noting wrong. >> You're wrong. I promise I don't get off work till 2:30 and I pick the kids up every day at >> Ashley. You done already said You done already said ELC told you you need to average 30 hours and you're averaging 26 and one of those days is Sunday when you work. >> So therefore, Mom, you're really upset. >> Therefore, Sunday, you're really upsetting me. Mom, you're really upsetting me because you have a wall. body of a brick wall. You're not listening to me. >> I don't listen to your excuses. No, I don't listen to your excuses, Ashley, cuz this is where we were. This is where we go. This is where we were Go, Ashley. >> On Wednesdays, I go to the doctor on Wednesdays. I go to W on Wednesdays. I run errands. I swear to God, YOU THINK I'M >> AND ON THE WEEKENDS, you are all weekend long you're partying. All last weekend you weekend, Ashley, >> which I do do that. I >> All Ashley's mother wants now is for her to go to rehab, promising to take care of the kids in the meantime. But Ashley remains stubborn, unable to accept that her children's safety has to come before anything else. >> I'm going to break. I still have the break to do until I put the kids. >> Ashley, you didn't have your kids this last weekend. Scotty. Scotty had the baby and Kylie. >> And that's why I'm calling That's why I'm calling the centers. >> You need to go and you need to go. You need to go to the centers. >> You don't give about anybody but yourself. >> No, you don't [ __ ] about anybody but yourself. Ashley, you there. And listen to yourself. Ashley, you got help. You had help. >> WHAT ABOUT YOUR DAUGHTER, BRANDY? WHERE ARE YOU? >> You did this. I tell you, I've been my legs since January and you're not here. >> And you had Ashley, Ashley, you had >> Ashley, you had all resources. You had all the resources. And every time I went to your caseworker and asked her, you kept the kids. You took the kids. No, you took the kids. Every time. Every time I asked DCF to you. Every time. No, Ashley. You need I can't give you the help you need, Ashley. You need professional help and every time I tried, every time I tried, you removed the kids. I'm done. >> During the follow-up interview, Ashley's mother shares a troubling history. She reveals that Ashley has a history of DCF involvement and long-term substance issues. She says her daughter's home has become filthy and unsafe. Her behavior has also led the children to be terrified. The most alarming claim yet is that Ashley attempted to drown one of her children while bathing them. Within days, Ashley is summoned for a detective interview. >> Um, what today? Friday. Probably >> Thursday. Yeah, today's Thursday. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um, so I just wanted to ask you some more stuff and just get in a little bit more detail with you. Um, before I get too far into it, I just want to let you know your rights. Um, just because the nature of the questions, just the nature of the questions I'm asking and everything, I just want you to be aware of your rights before we move forward. Okay, that's all this is. >> You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say you can will be used against you in a for a law. You have the right to talk to a lawyer and have them present with you while you're being questioned. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent you before any questioning if you wish. You can decide at any time to exercise these rights and not answer any questions or make any statements. You understand these rights I've explained to you? >> Yes. >> Okay. All right, Ashley. So, obviously, it's kind of been a long week for you and you've been talking to a bunch of different people about this. Um, I just want to give you some insight on what I I've been doing my investigation and then hopefully get some clarity from you. Um, so when we spoke on Tuesday, right, you had just left DCF, right? You went on a meeting with DCF, >> right? But you also met with Chris Okay. So, I've spoken. We talked about what you guys talked about. Okay. And your conversation was a little different than what yours and eyes was. >> Oh. >> So, during your conversation with Chris, there was mentioned that um during the bath, you're mad and maybe aggressively aggressive. >> I told you I was maybe was I aggressive. >> Mhm. >> Uh aggressive. I would use the wrong words. You're a freaking cop. So obviously I wouldn't say, "Yeah, I'm aggressive." But to you, was I rough? Yes. But did I try drowning her? No. >> Mhm. Okay. So, were you pouring water on her head and and and face, too? Is that >> Yeah, it's it was all going on her and >> Ashley blames her child's attitude for her loss of control, but the officer knows that no amount of stress explains the behavior they've seen. >> I'm sure it's incredibly difficult having three kids by your She's a lot. >> It gets overwhelming, right? >> And it's sometimes I can get hard and I should never I say myself for Christ's sakes. Like >> I in my rough I've said I'll say to you I said to everybody I know I Kylie doesn't get the same dis discipline mass and test and I don't know why. So should I relax a little? >> Well why is that? Why why is it you feel different? >> I wrote the video. It sounds like I'm freaking jealous of my daughter. And I don't think I'm jealous, but do I wish I had the attention? Like I was I was mocking her for getting attention from my mom. And that's like that sounds disgusting. Like that's >> is that So when you were [snorts] a child, I guess your mom didn't give you that same attention. Is that right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um but you said Kylie doesn't get that same treatment. Does your mom not treat Kylie the same as she treats Madison or I'm not. Um I think she treats him the same. She's a good nana. >> Yeah. >> So you're jealous. And are you angry at Madison? >> No, I'm not angry. She's just a lot. Like that's really it. She's she cries a lot. She needs a lot of attention. She's just a lot. And >> so back to that conversation you had with your mom. What what [snorts] fueled that? I I was and I was getting up and was coming down [clears throat] >> and I just wanted a hug for my mom like a child. >> Okay. And then the next day in the bath, were you having those same kind of feelings with Madison? Were you aggravated with her? >> No, it was the same day. But no, Madison, I wasn't mad at the kids. I was just coming down from wanted to get the bath over with. I was done. Well, [snorts] I know you told me you told me on Tuesday that that day you didn't feel like being a mom. >> Yeah, I was just done. I was over it. >> It's clear to the detective that Ashley's struggles go beyond parenting, rooted in substance abuse and emotional instability. He understands the pressure, but her actions can't be ignored. >> So, my concern is you're saying, you know, I want to the day prior, and you said you said that multiple times, right? And then here she is the next day saying while we tried my head went into water. So I just wouldn't need you to be truthful about the bath time because I feel like you're missing details here because you told DCF one story. You told me another. >> I'm telling the same story. >> Well, you use different verbiage with them. I you you were more open. I feel like you're not comfortable talking to me. >> I was telling the same story. >> Okay. >> It's the same exact story. >> You told DCF that you had animosity. See the thing is I didn't word it every when I was talking to my ace case worker. It was a twohour talk. >> You this is a five minute conversation. >> I have all the time in the world if you want. >> It was a two-hour talk. I said just earlier I just said when I over the video I actually I think this is I need maybe to get a lawyer cuz I feel like you're going to take me to jail for saying I want Madison. And I'm not bro. I swear to God I'm not trying Madison. >> [clears throat] >> You didn't have one moment during that day where you thought maybe it'd be easier if that just happened because >> No, this is how it's looking right now. >> I'm I 100% understand, but no. I want to be a mom. I was on I want to be her mom. I want to be Kylie's mom. And I want to be Cindy's mom. >> That's how you feel currently. I I hear you. Okay. >> That's No. Every single day. That day. >> That day you said it was a different day for you. That day was different. I'm admitting that's a different day for you. You didn't want to be a mom that day. You said that yourself. >> Yes. [snorts] >> So, what are you trying to cause home? >> I didn't want to be a mom and then me if I sat down with a counselor and someone that was educated. I'm like, I'm sure you're not educated on that level that she would. She was like, Ashley, do you really not want to be a mom? What do you want? Like, what makes you not want to be a mom? And I was like, you know what? You're right. You're right. I want to be a mom. I guess you're right. I was just in a bad day and then choose bad choice of words >> and [snorts] maybe bad choice of actions too. It seems >> hearing that the case will proceed, Ashley finally seems to understand the gravity of the situation. >> Can you answer my question? >> You're already taking me to jail. >> But I asked you a question. You've explained the bath. >> I asked you a question. I said, "Are you taking me to jail?" And you said yes. So I guess >> that's it. >> Okay. But I'd like to get further info from you. >> That's it. That's it. I'm going to jail for child abuse because I said I wanted to in [gasps] Oh my god. >> So you're saying that? Plus using too much water. I don't understand why that was. >> Do I deserve parenting? Yes. >> You're not answering my question. I used too much water on Madison's face. >> It's too much water was the wrong words then. >> So what did you You said it was too much. >> I was pouring I shouldn't have poured the water. Was there water on her face to stop her from breathing? >> Boom. I should not have done that. I should have said, Madison, let's do like this. >> Okay. And she was crying in return. Correct. >> I'm done. >> That you couldn't breathe. >> Is that correct? >> I'm done. >> Cuz you already told DCF that you thought you could understand why she said she was drowning. Is that right? >> I No, I that's not how I would say drowning. I She doesn't know the words what drowning is. Okay. >> [clears throat] [clears throat] >> want to turn around. Do you have anything on you that's going to poke my stick or hurt my other officer here? No, >> you you already have been told you're going to jail. So, if there's anything on your person that In the end, she's led away in cuffs and placed into a holding cell, facing serious charges, including three counts of child abuse and attempted murder.
