Could you come down here by first watch? Tell her y'all come sex you so y'all can see hang. >> Though the suspect is within her rights to ask for a female officer, her attitude doesn't change once that request is met. It's clear she's still determined to stir up trouble. >> One more that ran or just >> There's only two. >> Cool. We're not talking about two. >> You You keep talking to me. I'm not talking to you. People like officers like you is just too tough. Too tough. You know your job. Too much. Too much. >> Too much. >> So she knows her rights. She can only be touched by a female. She knows her rights. Stop doing me like that. >> No. [screaming] No. No. Cuz why did you do me like that? >> Cuz you're acting like a child. >> I didn't even think you got my legs up. She my leg up. I'm going to go somewhere else. >> Just get your feet in there. >> Oh my god. >> All right. Perfect. That was so difficult. >> I swear to God. I swear to God. I swear to God. Stop doing my arm right there. I'm touching my own arm. I'm touching me. >> Following the chaotic encounter, the suspect faced multiple charges, including retail theft, resisting arrest without violence, and battery on law enforcement. Number three, new year, new charges. On January 1st, 2025 in Dicab, Illinois, officers were dispatched to a gas station after a staff member recognized someone who had allegedly just stolen from another station nearby. Here's how officers handled the situation. Somebody's coming out. >> Yeah. >> Hey, bro. You doing all right? >> Yeah, I'm doing >> You okay? >> I'm good. >> All right. Did you have Did anything happen over there at the other gas station at the BP? >> What? >> Did anything else? Did anything happen down there? >> No, I I don't know. I I didn't come now. I didn't go on. >> You didn't go there? >> Okay. Is that your bicycle? >> That's my bike. >> Okay. Well, hang tight cuz they're saying you took something in the store. No, that's that's not my bicycle. >> You just said it was your bike. >> No, I didn't. >> Okay. Do you have anything on you right now that you might have taken from that other gas station? >> No. >> Okay. >> Would it be all right if we just checked real quick? >> Is that okay? >> Yeah, you can check. You got any money? I I >> Okay. Well, hold on. Hold on. You're not free to leave. >> Okay. Just Just hang tight. Okay. I'm not trying to jam you up if you didn't do anything wrong, but you got to just work with me here. Okay. So, again, is it cool if I just check your pockets real quick? Check. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Just be just be honest with us, boss, and we'll work with you. Okay. So, did anything happen down there at the other gas station? >> I didn't. >> No. Did you go in there? >> I didn't go in there. I'm I'm I just came here first. >> I left some crib and came there first. >> You're You're okay. Like I said, they called about you and there's a language barrier with them, too. So, it's >> It wasn't me. >> Well, they said you left on a bicycle and they described how you looked. So, that's all >> they said you had. There. You had Did you have a bat on you or anything like that earlier? >> No, I didn't have a bat. >> Are you okay? What's all this blood? >> I don't know. I got that from getting out of store. A store gave me that. I done >> Okay. Cuz they even described your money being covered in blood. >> You know what I mean? So, >> what's your name? >> I dropped another bill. I'm going to grab >> What's your name, boss? >> Melo. Melo. They try to get a straight story from the suspect, but instead of helping, his responses only make things seem more suspicious. >> You just spell that out for me. >> M E L O M E. >> You said M E L O. >> T. Yeah. >> You're all good to hang on to your own money, guys. >> You got a What's your You got a middle initial? >> T >> T. >> What's your last name? Yeah. >> What's your date of birth? >> Oh, >> it's a good phone number for you. >> Where you currently staying at? >> Uh, down the street. >> Down the street. You know what? You know what your address is? >> No, I don't know the address. >> You don't know your address? >> That looks pretty brand new. You didn't just take that that story, did you? >> No, I didn't. >> Okay. So, if I go over there and ask them what you took, they're not going to say >> they not they say that. I've been I've been there, man. I'm telling you, man. I just I just came from the crib, went to the store. >> Okay. Like I said, they didn't tell us what they think you took. So, >> we have I just came from the crib. I came to this store to get some lunch. >> I tell you what, I'm going to hand this back to you. Okay. >> Okay. >> Would you just hang tight with my partner? You guys good if I go over there and >> Yeah, go check it out. >> Just hang tight with my partners while I I figure everything out. I'm the one right there. Okay. So, >> um, so I'll be back with you and >> hopefully we can just get you on your way. Okay. >> What's up? >> All right. >> Go back there. Meet them at the store. Okay. All right. But you just don't mind just hanging around with me. >> What you looking around for? >> Hm. >> All we got to do is verify your store. That's it. >> Verify. I didn't come from that. They probably they probably Oh, no. I I just came from the store and just came from this store. That's it. >> Okay. hear about Chicago. [snorts] >> One officer turns to the gas station employees for answers while the others remain with the suspect, [music] unaware that he's about to do something completely unexpected. >> So, did you walk over there or no? >> Did you end up walking over there or did you pass by there? No, I came from that way. Okay. >> And you're living around here now, right? We only have an address for >> Okay. >> You just want to have a sit over here on [clears throat] that curb that fence. You want to sit right here. We're fighting. >> You're detang. >> Put your hands behind your back now. >> Put your hands behind your back now. I'll do it. >> All right. >> You got cuffs? >> Yeah. I'll hold the other one. >> You guys good? >> Yeah. It just started hopping started running from us. >> Where's our 95? ever. >> All right. >> The suspect's brief attempt to flee doesn't get him far. He's taken into custody and while on route, officers fill in the backup unit on what led to the arrest. >> Whose car is that? >> Okay. >> I searched him just a moment ago, but you want to pat him down real quick. >> I'll let I'll let you do that. >> He didn't like swing on you guys. >> No, just try to run away. >> Yeah. Yeah, I know. >> It's still even wrapped up in the original. >> I'll show you. >> So weird. He consented to a search and I found this and I'm like, "Oh, that's probably it." But I don't have anything from there yet. I'll go talk with him and make sure and stuff. >> Uh, he's got a bunch of like wadded up money in his pockets that are all bloody. So, I I don't know the story with that. He tried to claim that it was came from here inside the store at all. >> Yeah, he was inside. He was coming out as as the three of us walked up. Good. No injuries. >> No, that somebody take pictures of it. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Charge resistant. You got any injuries? Got the scrapes on. So, yeah. Charges down. He's inside or he didn't take anything from here, too. >> With the evidence in hand and the failed attempt to flee, officers now have every reason to move forward with taking the suspect in. >> He was going to sit there. >> He was going like this the whole time. >> Is that his bike? >> Yeah. >> Well, he's says it's not him and it is. >> Oh, >> no. He was going to sit down and then No, he fell off the front. >> So then he grabs on him. said he just came in to try to buy some cigarettes or cigaros or whatever. >> All right. >> You want to take that bike back to your car? >> You want to take a picture real quick, >> dude? Police department. >> Yeah, we'll just >> You want You want Max come spray some that clean? >> No. >> Put some dirt on it. >> What did he say? Put some hair dirt on it. I heard WP on it. It helps. It'll stop the bleeding. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Why don't you Why don't the >> All right. I'll back then. >> Yeah. >> And uh I'll follow you guys back to the PD in case he wants to come back. >> All right. Thanks, guys. >> In the end, the suspect was charged with retail theft and resisting arrest. [music] He was later released pending a court appearance. Number two, teen duo tries to be sneaky, fails spectacularly. On March 4th, 2024, officers in Illinois were dispatched to a gas station after staff reported a teenage couple that had just stolen merchandise. Here's how the situation unfolded once the officers caught up with the suspects. >> Only three police officers. >> We don't need three. You definitely need someone to go to Walmart. But uh >> let him talk. He's going to talk to you about some things. >> So you guys are coming from over, right? >> Yeah. >> All right. Do you guys have IDs on you? >> I ain't got my ID on you. >> Yeah. >> Look at it real quick. Oh, that's >> So, >> that's water. >> Just water. >> Is there anyone by the run? >> I can run over real quick. All right. How did I commit? It's a ticket. It's It's that easy. >> Let's go. >> For real. >> Like for real, bro. >> Yeah. For real. I've explained it to you five different times in multiple different ways, have I not? >> And I've explained to you multiple times. You walked off the property la past the last purchase of sale. >> You going to arrest me? I'm paying. >> It's retail theft, >> bro. What? >> And my all my stuff in there, too. Like, y'all going to arrest? >> We'll get that figured out later, >> bro. >> Do you have anything on you I need to know about? >> Anything sharp? Anything that's going to poke me? Anything that's going to blow me up? >> Oh, didn't give you permission to search me either. >> Search incident to arrest. Doesn't matter. It doesn't take long for officers to confirm the theft. The couple is quickly detained. And while the young man tries to shift the blame, the officer cuts him off without hesitation. >> How How are you doing this if I'm offering like arrest somebody, bro? >> I've already explained it to you. >> What What What is there to explain if I'm trying to pay for it? You should when when when theft occurs, you still have to give the person the prop the chance to return that item or pay for that item. You can't just arrest somebody off of that. >> When theft occurs, you have to give somebody the chance to return that item or pay for that item. I'm trying to pay for what you're saying. >> I'm trying to pay for it. >> Do you understand? If you go to Walmart and you don't pay for something, you walk out that door and stuff, >> bro. And when when the police called they had they >> pour alcohol in a cup. If you walk out of the store with a cup of alcohol that's >> but you have to give me the chance to pay for that. >> You had the chance. >> I didn't have a chance. >> We're not going to discuss it down here. You can discuss it in court. >> I'm saying if you take the I'm saying if you take the phone right now you >> Bro, I'm Can I talk to you? >> You guys boyfriend girlfriend? >> Yes. If you take Can I Can I talk to Can I talk to you though? Like, bro, if you take the ball, >> you have any previous history? >> I don't know. We don't know. Well, then I don't know if you give his name. >> No, the furthest I got with that was I don't have to tell you. So, Cool. >> Do you want to take these lids off and just take a picture so that there's something inside? >> As the officers wrap up the scene, one deputy takes a second look through the suspect's belongings and stumbles onto something that could make things worse. >> All right. Right now, You know what that is? So here go to jail. All right. With everything they've seen and what another officer uncovered about the couple's history, the decision is made to take them into custody. Like I said, you're probably good to go if you want to. >> Are you running with this one? >> Huh? >> Are you running with this one? >> Yeah. >> I I can take it. I >> 1729. Both of them uh she's working on video right now. Both of them take their little drinks. Both of them grab alcohol. Both of them dump it in different cups. Both of them had the chance to pay out there when uh kept asking. I'll give you all of her information as well later. >> Um they refused. They left. >> So they had a chance. >> That's basically kind of what they said. And she said she wants to prosecute for sure. >> All right. >> All righty. I just got to ID them two still. So >> you just throw this away then there. You can come get that little one you got here. that little one area you got. We're just going to put there so we don't throw it away. >> Where yall going to put it at? I don't want to break. >> They'll probably give you the bait bag. We just can't take the uh inside the little jail area. Both suspects are transported to the station without any issue, but the calm doesn't last long. The moment they step out of the cruiser, their attitude quickly resurfaces. >> What's up, man? >> Living a dream one day at a time. >> Go behind the car. >> Behind. >> Through the door. >> Through that door. Last bench on the left. >> Hey, >> let's go. >> I'll get those cuts off in a second. That ain't >> he just gave you a hint on what CD it is. I think that's one big hole. >> I wouldn't do it though. But >> wait, what's going to happen? >> Right here. >> No, I [laughter] just know I only stayed in here cuz I let you. Okay. The investigation wraps up with both suspects charged with theft. Number one, woman thought she could steal and walk away. She walked into cups instead. In our final case, police are dispatched to a busy shopping mall following allegations that a woman ran off with several designer sunglasses, hiding them inside her bag. Watch what unfolds when officers track her down and confront her face to face. Excuse me, ma'am. Stop right there. Where? We have one stopped right now outside of Macy CPO. Hi there. Just got to let you know I'm recording. Sergeant Jose Police. Um, right now I'm detaining you for possible investigation for theft of sunglasses. That sunglass on. Okay. >> Sunglasses. Okay. And we have our white sunglass. I want to go back to the store. >> What's your first name? >> Diana. Appreciate >> D I A >> N A one one chance with this. Okay. No no no name games or anything like that. Okay. >> M R >> M A R >> QU. >> I a like that. M A R >> Q U I N A. Okay. Diana, what's your date of birth? >> And your address? Once the officer catches up with the suspect, he reads her her rights and begins looking into what happened. While she appears surprisingly cooperative at first, the situation isn't shaping up in her favor. Like I said, we are going to be conducting investigation into whatever they're reporting right now. Um, there is video everywhere. Okay. Um, you know, all right. I was going to read you your right. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can or will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney and you can't afford one. Won't be provided will be able to be provided to you prior or during any questioning. You understand those rights? Okay. Um, we watch a video in there. Are we going to see you stealing anything? Thank you for being honest with me. Okay, it will move this along much quicker. >> Where are the sunglasses? >> Yeah, you'll be placed under arrest for shoplifting. If you don't have any warrants or anything crazy like that, you'll be released. All right. >> We can still get you to Omar's right now cuz really Friday is my 616. Can we like work something out? I won't come back to this mall. >> I mean, no matter what, we're not going to be able to work anything out. We can't do that. All right. Um, you know, that's not what we are. We're not liaons. We're not dealmakers. Okay. Um, like I said, you being honest and you cooperating goes a long way. Okay. Um, where the sunglasses? >> Well, I told you there was only I only took on sunglasses. >> Okay. Where are they? >> That's it. You didn't ditch them anywhere cuz if they don't find them, they're going to >> No, that's the only one I >> Nothing else in your fanny pack. Nothing. We're going to, like I said, we're going to be searching you. Everything is four out of 11. All this information is correct, right? >> Additional officers step in to assist, and it doesn't take long before they find something that directly contradicts the suspect's earlier statements. >> So, this Miss Diana here, she's been uh straightforward with us so far. Um, grandized her and uh, you know, admitted to stealing. Everything's on video anyway. Um, >> so they're going to be uh who's going to the store right now? >> Dunan. >> Dundon. Okay. All right. >> Perfect. >> Cover. You're going to be placing arrest. Okay. For shoplifting, >> take that other bag off. >> What's that? >> Do you have any warrants or anything like that? Yeah. >> Face the wall real quick away from us. You got an ID in any of these bags? >> We got one. >> Did you go to any other anything else? >> No. Everything that was there, I can't change it. >> Or one female or one exchange it. >> Here's the rest of the sunglasses. >> Those glasses I I brought them over here. >> What's that? >> Them glasses. I brought them over here to exchange them. Those are the glasses on to No, those are the glasses that I took. >> These ones all have tags on them. >> Those all have tags, too. Dang it. Listen. >> Yeah, I came to exchange them. You >> got a receipt for them? >> I went to the store and they wouldn't exchange it cuz I didn't have the receipt. that I do some lower level service related male female red >> you up here with anyone else >> no direction you just Yeah. >> The suspect insists she only took one pair of designer sunglasses, but that claim quickly falls apart when officers find dozens more stuffed inside her bags. With that, they give her one last chance to tell the truth. 12 dispatch. You said the female had red hair. >> Yeah, that one. She could hold on to this stuff. I'm just going to put you in the car for now, right? Bring that stuff away. So, she just grab her and whatever. >> You want to keep both bags or >> We're going to take these to the store and make sure they're not stolen. >> Someone bring you do any switcheroos or anything? Like I said, every everything's on video, right? >> No. And those are the ones that I have. These are the only ones we're going to see you taking. Okay. >> You have a New York license. I lock it. I lock it. As the officers examine the merchandise more closely, the suspect's phone abruptly starts going off, buzzing continuously with one call after another. >> Take a Got to take a picture of these >> and then >> Yeah. I mean, they said how many glass there? I in the car for a second. 1 2 3 4 5 600 Are they reloaded? >> Now we have seven. >> Is she with these other two people? Her phone's blowing up here. or I got when you're ready. Is there anything else? I mean, is there another bag in there? >> [music] >> I don't know. I told him Romeo uniform Indian November Alpha. >> Given how the investigation is unfolding, the officers begin to consider whether the suspect had help while shoplifting. From there they dig deeper looking for more cracks in her story. >> Date of birth. >> Data birth 198 loose. >> I'm going to go nuts.
