What type of person that we should be worried about? >> Nothing. Just this. >> Take it back. Okay. >> Okay, just give it give it back. >> We're going to go this way though. We're going to go this way. >> That's fine. I'm just saying can I just give it back? I'm not from here. I didn't understand I don't understand like I didn't understand. >> Some people think they're too clever to get caught, but these cases show how quickly things can change. Here's what happens when shoplifters try to outsmart cops and almost get away with it. This shoplifter's excuse leaves officers speechless. On October 2nd, 2024, officers were called to Target after employees reported that a woman had allegedly left the store with an unpaid iPad. By the time officers arrived, they found her in the parking lot preparing to drive away. The officer intercepts her just in time. >> Ma'am. Ma'am. Ma'am. I need you to stop. So, um 10-4. >> I heard him stop, but I but I didn't know who who if he was talking to that guy or not. >> Check me 13. >> Okay. So, um they are saying that you and him um have a iPad. >> No, well, it was in the case it was like right there. Yeah, I do have it, but I it was like a sign I thought that it it was like for free or whatever. >> it was for free? >> So, yeah. >> Yeah, dude. >> I'm going to go ahead and um what we're going to do is we're going to walk back in the store. >> I don't want to cuff you out here, but I will. >> Okay, I don't want to be cuffed. Can I just give it back? >> No, we're going to go back this way. We're going to go back. >> Okay, I am giving it back. >> Alpha 11 10-12 with the female. >> Okay, just give it give it back. >> We're going to go this way though. We're going to go this way. >> That's fine. I'm just saying can I just give it back? I'm not from here. I didn't understand I don't understand like I didn't understand. >> So, you can't take anything and pass all points of sale without rendering payment. That's one, okay? >> Okay, but cuz it wasn't even in a thing, >> Well, we're going to go in here and and see what type of thing you're talking about because I don't understand and I don't work at Target, but he's going to give us >> Okay, well, that's fine. I'm just I'm just going to give it back to the same person. >> going to go in here. Can we Can we do this in here? All right, we're going to No, we're going to go in the store. >> Okay. >> Okay? >> Where? >> We're going to loss prevention. Well, they're going to have to wait a little bit longer, okay? Um she has the iPad, so come on. >> You go with him? >> Yeah, I'm going with you. >> Okay. Can we just hurry this up? I got to go get my daughter. Is he going to ignore me? >> No, well, we're No, we're going to follow him. We're following him. That's what we're doing. You and I, that's what we're doing. >> Knowing the encounter isn't ending anytime soon, the officer allows the woman to contact her daughter before continuing the investigation. >> Thank you. >> What's your name? >> Alpha 11, we're inside the store in loss prevention. Signal 14. >> Yeah, for Alpha 11, for you. >> Well, it was a misunderstanding. Uh standing by. >> Is it going to be quick? >> Yeah, I got to get my daughter. Get Can we be quick about this? >> No. >> Why? >> All right, have a seat. >> You do have to take a seat. >> Okay, why? All right, um >> I'm just going to He said I found him in the store and he tried to open up multiple pages of merchandise. He tried to do it and he took this iPad. >> I didn't open up multiple pages. I only looked at this. I got one scan. >> You attempted to open up multiple pages and then once that >> Can you show me because I definitely did not have it? >> I've got 11 1 white female 10-15 or excuse me detained. >> I didn't steal anything. >> I didn't steal multiple Apple products. No, I didn't. I only saw that one right there. >> This probably cost $1,000. >> Okay. >> That's already like probably $1,000. >> Can you get the >> Did you shop? >> Yeah, probably not. >> I have to go I have to go back there. >> I think I have the right to see that because I know I did not touch multiple things. I only saw that one right there. I was trying to get it out to actually look at it. My daughter has one of them and I was looking at it to get another one for my other daughter. So, I did not look at other ones. Like I looked at that one in particular. >> Before the officers can even verify your identity, the woman wastes no time denying any wrongdoing. >> I just want the facts straight and I'm just saying if you got it on camera, I'm entitled to that. >> No, I don't. >> Okay, what's your name? >> First off, I want to know what's going on. >> All right, so right now, I'm Long Beach Police Department, we're detaining you because you walked out of the you walked out of this establishment with an iPad that's Target's merchandise. >> Well, I gave it back with the guy. Like I I was like I was right there. I was still in the parking lot. >> That's fine, but if like we're going to you had the merchandise. You understand you took it outside of the You had you didn't pay for it. That's called stealing. >> and I'm giving it back now. >> already passed. So, that's where that's this is where we're at now. Like to answer your question. >> Okay, well, can we see where it's at right now? I did not Like I said >> What is your name? >> Sit, my name is Pam. >> What is your whole name? Cuz I got to write it down. So, what is it? >> Okay, but it might be in a book. >> Um I don't know yet. We're going to see what's there, but I am detaining you. >> Okay, okay, okay. >> What's your name? >> I don't know. >> Where are you staying tonight? >> Um right now, we haven't we're trying to book an Airbnb. So, I we I don't have that set up just yet. >> How long you've been down here? >> Um we've been down here for probably almost a month now and we've been bouncing back and forth between different Airbnbs. >> Okay. Are y'all moving down here or something? >> Um yeah, well, maybe, maybe not. He's working right now, and it's I'm really just down here well with him for well, he's got a job, you know. So, cuz I don't know, he got work down here. Like I said, we're not from down here. He just got offered a job, so I tagged along with him. >> Okay. While the officers wait for surveillance footage and store records, the woman continues maintaining her innocence. >> How old are you? >> 34. Yeah. I know, and I this was really stupid, and I I don't even know why I did that, and I am genuinely sorry. Like I feel stupid that I'm here right now. Like I knew it was stupid to steal good too. Like I I literally was just looking at it, and then it popped out. Like and I don't know why I did what I did, but like I did, and I shouldn't have done that, and I realize that. Like and I'm really, really, really and you already said either way I'm going to be banned from the store, but like where I'm from in Maryland, like they like in general like if like you could work something out with them or whatever, but I don't this is a different state, you know what I mean? I don't know anything about this state. >> Well, you might want to change your ways cuz you know, what was today? The 2nd? Today's the 2nd. Yesterday didn't the the new laws come out where they reinforce the retail theft, so you might want to >> What's that What are I don't know any of the laws here. >> Well, stealing. >> Okay. >> That's just a broad >> Well, well, I get Right, well, so what is it? >> It's just more stricter now starting from yesterday. There were some laws that were brought out in effect since yesterday. Which they become a bit more strict. They don't they don't have um these type of electronics on display in in Maryland? >> Not the pop out like that, no. >> But I'm just saying like you just know that you just can look at them. You know? >> No, I No, they let you touch them. Like you're allowed to touch them and mess around with >> them here, too. Yeah. >> Yeah, that's Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I didn't know you weren't allowed to look at it. Any other store, you can play with it, but you can't put it in your bag. Great. I didn't know it was a crime when it popped out, and that was I know. I That is what you should not have done. Yes, I know. And then >> The officer has already heard from the woman. Now it's time to hear from the employee who watched the incident unfold. >> So, we're going to start a sworn statement. All right, state your first and last name. >> Uh Aladin Brooks. >> And your date of birth? You already You already have your right hand raised. Um do you swear and affirm that the statement that you're going to give is to is the truth into the best of your ability? >> Yes. >> All right, best of your knowledge, excuse me. Okay, go ahead and tell me what happened. >> All right, so I was on camera. I seen two um subjects walk in the store. Uh they were inside. Um they had like a bunch of either bags or shirts or jackets inside the shopping cart. Uh they then made their way into electronics where they were seen kind of opening them on multiple occasions prior to originals. They then made their way to the Apple display where um the male subject was able to defeat the um cords and take the iPad off the display. Uh she then put it in the semi camera. And then they made their way to the side of the cart. Um they slowly went to the aisle of Nerf gear aisle. They looked at more caged Nerf Nerf guns putting them in the cart. Uh both subjects went towards the aisle where they were then seen concealing the iPad into their personal bag. They then made their way to the front of the store. They take the stuff out of the cart, put their backpacks on, personal walk off the floor. I then went to the front of the store. I approached them to the front of security. Uh the female subject walked off to the parking lot in the opposite direction. That's what you asked me. >> Okay. You got his phone number? You got his phone number? Are we I don't really need it, though. I mean, you could say I don't need it. I mean they could have crushed us if they wanted to but >> Okay. All right, let's go. >> Okay, so you want to call your mom? >> Yeah, you want to walk out with me? >> Okay. >> So we're going to go to the right? >> Okay. You guys have anything on you? >> Who? Yeah, I got Yeah, I got >> The investigation ultimately resulted in the woman being charged with felony retail theft. Even officers couldn't believe where this grandma hid the merchandise. In this next case, officers were called to a Best Buy after employees reported that an elderly woman had allegedly concealed merchandise in her purse before walking past all points of sale without paying. By the time officers arrived, she was already making her way through the parking lot. >> How you doing, man? >> Fine. >> All right, let's go talk inside real quick. >> Okay. >> You want to go to LP's office? Yeah. Want to go to your office? >> Yeah. >> All right, come on, let's go, man. Just real quick. >> Sure. >> You guys all right if I check your purse? >> Yeah, go ahead. >> Just looking for weapons. >> Any weapons or anything? No, no, no, no. >> You want to tell me anything? >> That's all right. I don't even remember. It was the only thing. >> Huh? Yeah. >> I was just trying to do something so I can try to make some money to pay for my dog, I swear. It was so stupid, but I don't know what I'm going to do. I don't have that kind of money. >> Are there any weapons on your person? >> No. No. No. >> What's on your person that we should be worried about? >> Nothing. Just this. >> Take it. Okay. I have no idea. You check. >> They're $99. >> Who's? A piece? >> Yeah. >> The search doesn't stop with a tablet. Officers soon discover several Nintendo Joy-Cons inside her purse, bringing the total value of the merchandise to more than $2,000. >> What's the noise? The sergeant just said. >> I don't even know what that is. >> Is that all of it? Ma'am, do you know how much you got? >> [clears throat] >> It's uh this one is 400, 500, 600. >> I can get a price on everything for you. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> So, Ms. Cannell, ultimately, I didn't introduce myself. My name is Sergeant Fuchsman, right? Um ultimately, you already came clean to what happened, why the reason why you got stopped. There's This is Best Buy. There's cameras everywhere, you know. >> I was stupid. >> So, I understand that you did this for a cause that you think was to help your dog, right? >> That's right. >> So, ultimately, you got stopped outside and and you provided in items that were not paid for on your person. >> Yes, I have. >> Okay. Now, there's going to be some questions that Officer Alice has going to ask you here. And and like I said, everything's on camera. So, I must rather you be truthful and we can kind of move forward and progress with this because it's it's already done. Do you understand what I'm saying? So, when we asked you about did you drive here? And that's the way to start being honest and we can start actually talking about some stuff. >> Just take me to jail. That's what you're going to do. So, just take me, please, because I feel like I'm really going to be sick. >> Okay. Ultimately, we are going to end up going to jail. >> I know. >> Um and I'm going to be honest, we do know that you drove your car here. Your car is in the parking lot. And we do know you were in the store earlier. It's not going to change the fact whether you go to jail or not. But, I do know you were in the store earlier doing the same thing before you were stopped this afternoon. >> The officers have already found multiple items, but before wrapping things up, they want to make sure nothing else has been overlooked. >> I can't I was in here and I went out to get my water. >> Okay. >> Because I you can see I'm >> This was earlier in the day. And then you returned. >> No, right No, no, no. >> Okay. >> I went right out, got my water, and came back in. >> Okay. >> I didn't go somewhere and come back. >> Okay. Is there anything in the car? >> No. >> Is the car paid off? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, ultimately, and I'm I'm going to be honest with you. I just came from investigations. I've been off the road for quite some time. But, ultimately, what I would do is your car was going to be used in this crime. We do know that you went to from the store after stealing other items and went to your car. That car is a a tool used to transport stolen items. So, what I can do, I can seize your car. I don't want to do that to you, but I'd much rather you be honest. And this is the time and I'm telling you I'm just because this is who I am. >> to take it anyway. >> I'm not going to take your car. I'm not going to take your >> my car. >> Miss Ken, this is not what I'm getting at. I don't want to do that, but I'd much rather leave it here properly parked and locked, but I'm asking you all your items or if not, are you giving it Can you give us consent to look inside the car to see if there's any more items that you may have placed inside? >> That >> Because there's two different avenues we can go and honestly it's going to help you here because you're already getting arrested for this. >> Just take me to jail, please. Just take me to jail. Take me. >> Mhm. >> I I mean >> So, >> I don't I I'm I'm like I'm freaking out here. I I I can't even >> So, let's just start off clean. >> The officers have already recovered several items, but before wrapping things up, they want to make sure that's all there [music] is. They begin asking the woman about her vehicle and everything that happened before [music] they caught up with her. >> This earlier today, you said you weren't driving, you got dropped off and then you just said you went back to your car to get back to your car in the parking lot to grab yourself a water. We We're going to switch that. So, you did drive today to the parking lot. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Well, actually my friend drove me, but yes. >> Is your friend still here in the store? >> No, she walked over to Ulta over there. >> Okay. So, your friend drove, but you had access to this car. Are the keys in your possession? >> Yeah. >> Okay. And so, at one point you entered the store prior to making contact with law enforcement and then you re-exited the store to go get your water from your car. >> Okay, wait. So, that again. I >> Uh earlier today before you made contact with us, you entered the store >> Yes. >> and then you left to go back to your car to get your water. >> Right. >> Okay. So, you had ways to enter your car. >> Yes. >> And then you said you got your water, you came back inside. And then that's when all this kind of transpired and then this is when you got stopped. All right. I'm trying to help you out here. >> Mhm. >> And I understand that you're going through a lot with your with your dog and most of us can relate cuz I prefer animals over people. Trust me. Uh But what I'm not trying to do is hurt you even more financially because we believe that there's more items inside the car that belong to the store. >> No, there's nothing here that belongs to the store. >> Okay. I have to I can't really take your word for that because you lied to me earlier saying that your car's not here. So, do you see where I'm kind of getting with that? So, I don't want to get you a tow bill. I don't want to get you uh I don't really want to go the avenue of seizing your car cuz there's not really much I'm going to do with it. Is though we have to verify whether or not there's stuff inside the car because you had stuff on your person inside your purse. You're going to your car for the second time today. >> The woman says she's not feeling well, but the investigation doesn't stop there. The officer still have several things left to sort out. >> Hard times call for desperate measures. I'm just trying to help you those hard times not be as hard right now. And you can only help yourself in this situation. I can't force you to do anything. >> I know. >> So, >> I'm just I just I just feel like this is a bad dream. This is like it's not happening. It's not real. >> Well, it's >> know how much one person can take. >> Well, I mean, it's it's This is life and it's a roller coaster of emotions and what we do with those emotions is what continues to kick on and we're trying to alleviate making that time harder right now. And by you being honest with us and you helping us with this, it's going to only help you further down the road and I can tell you that when I when somebody reads this report I can't promise you that something anything's going to happen, but it it they take all this stuff into consideration. >> Just It's so weird. I just feel like I just want to know. >> By talking about this, determine what's inside the car. It's going to come with us or we're going to go in we're going to figure out our our investigation, but if that's we can't turn it over until we figure that out. Does that make sense? >> Yes. >> So that's where I'm getting at and this is the time for you to I'm trying to help you without telling you what to do. >> It's [snorts] the same thing. >> The same stuff? The same amount? >> Yeah. >> Where inside the car is it? >> Um when you open the back door it's there. >> The officers show the woman a bit of leniency by leaving her vehicle where it is. In return, they just want to make sure every piece of stolen merchandise is recovered. [music] >> Do I have your permission to go retrieve it so it's no longer sitting inside your car? >> Will you leave my car here and let my husband pick it up? >> I will talk to the management here. I will be not touching it. It's going to be on the management at that point, but I will not be moving or towing your car. >> Can I can I call my husband and tell >> We will definitely make sure we your husband is aware of what's happening and where your car is. >> Let's recover this stuff first and make sure that Best Buy is happy and we'll and he's going to start the paperwork and then we'll >> We'll get you we'll get you squared away. >> I'm sorry. >> Yeah, I know. I know. >> So >> you gave them permission to go with this other stuff in your car? >> Oh god. >> Is this from here? >> I have no idea. >> I think we need to take it on the list. >> She definitely has a lot of bags as if this is what she does. >> Oh yeah. >> I don't know if the other stuff's involved. >> Yeah, you can take them. >> There's That stuff >> I can't verify. >> It doesn't look right. >> It doesn't It looks like stuff here. >> Well, this is all together. >> All this stuff was >> It's coming here. >> Okay. >> So, there's a like a list of like places to go and she steals stuff from. Some's in our city, some's not. >> Just when it seems like the investigation is wrapping up, the officers uncover something even bigger. >> There's the uh the rest of the stuff. >> How many is over there in that list? >> Uh >> Or spots? >> It's definitely over uh >> That's all of it? >> Nope, there's one. And she You guys can look over the list. There's list from like your store and there's like other There's other stuff that we can't confirm is stolen, but we think it's stolen. >> And this was in her car? >> So, Melbourne, Seminole, Apopka, Amal Springs and Orlando, Jensen Beach. >> This is all we Let me see this. >> This is a list of things she's checking off what she's pretty much got. >> Going to >> So, >> By the way, she's checking off them. >> I didn't miss you too, you know. >> But she went nowhere here. >> She could have gotten them from other >> Can we Hey, Sage. Can we check the friend that she came in here with and then have >> Somebody passed all that wrapping wrapping thing. >> If she was somebody with somebody and if if she >> You're very welcome. >> Ms. Cain, you got the rest of the stuff? Um what's your friend look like? >> [snorts] >> Are you sure there's a friend that your friend came inside the store with you? >> No, she wasn't coming nowhere. >> Just in the just in the parking lot. Okay. And let me ask you Huh? >> Long curly hair, she's >> Okay. What what What was your intentions? I mean, there's a list of like a check-off list of you of like items you're looking for in your car. >> No, that was That's a Christmas list. >> I'll bring you the list. It's the things that were stolen that are inside your car. There's a check-off list of things that you have inside the car. It's no big deal. >> No, I I I I don't know what you're talking about. Seriously. >> All right. All right, hold on one second. >> Yeah. >> The woman is trespassed from the store, but the investigation is far from over. As the officers continue sorting through the recovered merchandise and tracing where it came from, they realize this case goes well beyond a single Best Buy store. >> Hey, Casey. Let me get that check-off Let me get that Let me get that check-off paper. >> He's going to give a picture to Sage. That's That's the one I was going to bring in the prior incident. All All we need to know is like this is you, right? Because then he's going to put charges for the other case on it. >> Okay. >> That way we get away with it for a my phone. >> Then I'm not going to do See trooper. You know I'm not going to show her the check office. I asked her about it. Like what's your what's your intentions? Because I don't know what you're talking about. So, I just do this. >> Yeah, just do the picture for me, thanks. So, I'll I'll have >> That's not my job anymore. You know what I mean? Like Everything's here. >> All right, cool. All right, ma'am. You ready? We're going to go into my car, okay? All right. Let me just put this in my bag. All right, I got it. I got it. I got it. >> thank you for not handcuffing me. Thank you so much. >> All right, let's go. >> I'm not going to run. I promise you. >> [laughter] >> All right, if you run, I'll just taze you. >> I'm not going to run. >> I'll be honest with you. If you try to, I'll just taze you. >> No, no, no. I know. >> [laughter] >> All right. Excuse me, sir. >> I'm so sorry. It was so stupid, but sometimes you do the wrong things for the right reasons. >> Hopefully we won't see you out here again. You got to have a seat, ma'am. >> The woman was later charged with grand theft of over $2,000. Walmart's serial shoplifter gets caught again. On October 4th, 2025, officers were called to a Walmart after staff reported that a woman who had previously been trespassed allegedly returned to the store and stole merchandise. Here's what happened when officers arrived. >> What's going on? >> Hi. >> The store called and said you were trespassed. >> Who trespassed? Who trespassed? Who trespassed? >> And then you were throwing some items around? >> Hello. >> Were you guys throwing anything? Were you Were you throwing anything? >> I was playing around. >> You were playing around? Do you have your ID? >> If I'm trespassed, you should know who I am. >> Yes, but that's not how this works. You're either going to identify yourself or you're going >> Can't be helped. I don't have my ID. >> Okay. Name and date of birth, okay? >> Janelle. Well, they're just going to give me a ticket. >> What's your first name? >> C A N D I N >> D I N? >> I N. >> What's your last name? >> All right, give me your >> What's your date of birth? Okay, deal. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> 9 6 >> 9 6 >> Got a name and DOB for you to get it located in JDL and run it all the way around when you're ready. >> The woman is identified as Candy House, and before long, it becomes clear [music] this isn't the officer's first encounter with her. >> Come back if you're trespassed. I don't have to answer the questions. >> No, you don't. >> Okay, you're also not free to leave at this time. >> I don't want to. That's that's fine. You're Nope, you're not free to leave. Okay, you're going to stand right here. We're investigating a crime at the moment. Okay, well, you already know you're detained, so you're not free to leave. Okay. Apparently. I know she's been locked up before. We locked up for something. I don't think she's getting very far, but Huh? I guess, yeah. Candy doesn't appear too concerned about the situation, >> [music] >> but the officers quickly make it clear that she's not free to leave. >> You're still detained, but you're coming with You two are good. She's she's detained at the moment. You you two are free to go. She's currently detained at the moment. Did you know you were trespassing or no? They didn't tell you like What's that? I'm sorry. Did you get the incident you're referring to? I wasn't there. Did you get arrested for that? Okay. >> So, normally at this point in time, you guys would write me a ticket and tell me to keep it moving towards >> You're talking about it right now? >> Yeah. >> We might do that. We're trying to get the story straight from who called us. >> While the woman's companions insist they've done nothing wrong, the officers are also taking into account everything reported by the staff. >> That's why I'm having you stay here. So, Ms. House. Ms. House. What were you guys throwing stuff around? Like, what happened? Cuz there Listen. Listen. Before you answer the question, like There's cameras in the store. No, no. I mean, there's cameras in the store. So, I'm asking you All right. Okay. All right. I got you, but it legally, if she's trespassed, she can't be on the property. >> Indefinitely. >> Indefinitely, yeah. No. No. It doesn't matter who she's with, so Well, she was advised the last time. But now, we can't just let her go at the moment. >> No. >> Just hold on. Just Just hold on for a minute, okay? Go ahead. Have a good day. Thank you. >> Aw. What the >> At first, the officers had no reason to stop Candy's two companions, but after speaking with staff, they learned all three had allegedly been involved in causing the disturbance inside the store. >> For them, no. >> We need your two IDs as well. >> What's that? >> You're not going to be trespassed today, but we need to identify you. >> Well, what does that mean? >> Just like we put you in the report. We put your put the IDs in. Yeah, the store reported that all you guys were throwing the items around, so that's why. >> Oh my god. We literally dropped something and then we picked it up. We weren't even doing anything wrong in the store. I know you. >> You know me? >> We were in the front of you. >> Where do I? You need your ID? >> Yeah, I do. >> Yeah, he's got it. >> You were just giving me your name. No, hold on cuz I know I got my ID. I have a second ID in the car. Can I go get it? >> Miss. If you don't have your ID on you, we can just do a name date of birth. All right, I'll take it over with you. Come on. >> Girl, you're not the same. >> No, it's we were just we just identifying you cuz we made contact with each other all night. >> 55015 >> What? What? >> Being secure. >> All right. >> What did he say? >> You're going to be under arrest, okay? So, we will explain that to you. Um >> Chris, can I have her part number so I can pull that up? >> No, let's just worry about the ones from here. >> Okay. >> He's getting a training receipt with all these things. >> Um what was it? >> But she can show you the video. She took them out of her bag. >> I spend like $150 every time I come. Like why It's fine. I'll just >> Doesn't make it right to steal. >> No. I've scanned things. I've scanned things twice. The people come over. I'm just never doing self-checkout again, ever. Cuz I get distracted and it's not worth it. >> Loss prevention explains that while the woman paid for part of her purchase, $30 worth of merchandise in her bag were allegedly skipped at self-checkout and left unpaid. >> Um so she has three bins. She scans the bins. >> There's hangers on there that she took out. So then she doesn't scan those. She scans that. Just want to give her a quick pat down. >> No problem. Do you have anything on you that's going to poke me or stick me? >> Me? No. >> Okay, and you guys just find the video of me bringing the hangers back in when I had my car searched? >> stolen. >> Case number is going to be 26 Mountain 03208. 03208. >> 10-4, thank you. Here's your case number. >> Thank you very much. >> What was that case number? 03 208? >> 03208. >> The officers later identify the woman as Jacqueline Collazo. And as she tells the officers, spending more than 150 dollars on groceries is nothing unusual for Even so, that doesn't change what brought the officers there that day. >> Did you want to say something to the wife or something? >> Uh didn't see all that. >> They taking my keys and stuff? >> Yes. >> How come? >> We're going to put it in the best of course. >> Oh. You don't have to tell me what happens here. Thank you. Turn around, put your hands behind your back. >> Can I put that in my car so that you can pay for it? >> Not right now. >> Okay. Well, can I just ask where I'm going? >> You're going to Middletown headquarters. Turn around, put your hands behind your back. >> like overnight? I want to take my jacket off. Can I put that in the car? >> You want to take your jacket off? Can I take it off? >> [snorts] >> No, I want to put it in my car. It's new and I love my car. >> That's fine. Well, well, where's your car parked? >> Okay. Um my car is kind of in the front. It's a um If you can put it in the front seat, not the trunk. >> Yeah, we'll put your property in your car. >> That's fine. In the front seat. Um Just not the trunk cuz my son's basketball crap is in there. Wait, what am I doing now? >> Put your hands behind your back. Yep. >> I just can't walk out >> No. >> No. Why? >> Cuz that's how That's how this works. You're under arrest. >> I understand. I'm happy to walk out with you. It's Oh, let me tell you the car. It's a white Traverse with like red Okay, it's like red How far is the car? Do I have to walk in front of a bunch of people? >> It's right in front of the store. >> Okay. Um white Traverse with like red on the tires. >> The officers now explain the next step in the process to Jacqueline. >> Do I sit in jail like overnight? >> Probably not. You'll probably get released on a summons. >> Okay. What does that mean? >> That means that I'm going to process you, fingerprint you, all that good stuff, and then I'll probably bring you back here to get your car, so >> You I come back here with I come back here? And then I drive myself? >> Oh, so summons is like what? >> You get processed and released. >> But like I something happens from the summons, right? Like >> a court date. You got to go to court. Yeah. You got to go to court for sure. >> You didn't do anything. Can I go to jail for this? Like what happens with what hap- Wait, before we leave here, I just need to talk to you. So, depends All right. So, depending on what happens with the computer system that we have, okay? Determines whether you get released on a summons or you go to county jail. Have you ever been arrested before? >> Clearly not. >> No? Okay. So, then you'll probably be released on a summons. What that means is that you're going to get a piece of paper with why you were charged, what you were charged with, and a court date. You're going to go to court, and then you're going to pay your fine or whatever on that court date. >> So, I have to get a lawyer? >> It's up to you. >> Wait, say it again. I was half listening. Say it again. Sorry, I'm like you could imagine. >> So, really listen this time cuz I'm not going to repeat myself again, okay? >> so scared and nervous. >> but I just explained everything to you, and now you're saying you're not even listening. So, why would I waste my time listening? >> I'm sorry, I'm listening. I'm not processing. >> you're going to get a piece of paper. >> Today? >> Today. >> Okay. >> We're going to go to headquarters. I'm going to process you. Your pictures, your fingerprints, okay? And then I'm going to do the complaint. >> Okay. >> is the summons. >> Okay. >> Okay? If it goes that route, which I'm assuming it will be. >> Okay. >> Okay? From there, you are going to get released with a court date. >> Okay. >> You have to show up to court on that court date, on that time that's on there, and that's that. >> then what happened like what happens I guess at the court date? >> Whatever the judge tells you. You go to court, and you go before the judge, and then the judge will say what happens. >> Okay. >> All right. >> The arrest isn't what seems to bother Jacquelyn most. Instead, she appears worried about who might see her in handcuffs. >> Thanks, guys. >> Can we walk out back? >> Yes, we can. I don't want to be here any longer than you do. >> In the front seat if you don't mind. >> The front seat of what? >> My car. >> Oh, is that your car right there? >> Yeah, that's it right there. See? >> We're right next to that Prius right there. This one. This one. To the left. To the left. To the left. >> Just the front like the front seat or the passenger seat. Thank you so much. This sucks. >> Just stay right by my car. One second. We'll give you one more quick pat down, okay? >> Me? >> Yep. Have a seat. >> Oh, it's dirty. >> Jacqueline was ultimately charged with shoplifting and released pending a court appearance. On March 2nd, 2026, the shoplifting charge was reduced to unnecessary noise as part of a plea agreement. She later pled guilty and paid a total of $533 in fines. This shoplifter tried hiding the merchandise in someone else's bag. For our final case, officers responded to a shop right in Hoboken, New Jersey after employees reported that [music] a woman allegedly hid merchandise in her friend's purse before attempting to leave the store. >> You took your hands out of your pockets? You getting locked up. >> I'm not safe. >> Good timing. Look, I'm going to get something to put on. >> Oh, yeah. I got none in my pocket. >> Okay, man. Sweet shirt. You got it. Sure. >> All right, long story short, uh So, the lady here came to the store at 8:55 p.m. went to the seafood department, concealed in a bag. Uh she then went to the meat department. >> What do you mean by concealed? >> Uh literally, she put it inside a bag. >> Okay. >> And this is the bag. >> Okay, so that's the bag. >> Uh she then went to the meat department. Put more items there. And then, uh uh 9:42 p.m. uh She went through the self-checkout. She paid for her items. And then, she went right after the self-checkout. >> But that good time I came in, I I >> How long was the self-checkout? >> Okay. I was I was She She was helping >> The reason she's here is why she's The reason she's up here is because we saw her grab the Humphrey item, put it in the cart, and she walked out with the whole >> Can I Can I listen? Can I listen? I She had stuff in the cart already. I was putting it in the in her push cart for her. I didn't know that it wasn't a big deal. Tell them. I didn't know that. >> So, she put the items in >> In inside. I didn't steal. I was putting it in the push cart for her. And I was taking it out. >> And then, at self-checkout, she put it in the cart and walked out with the whole >> I was just helping her. >> Uh so, yes, both. And then, we saw her items at the at the cart that were concealed that she didn't pay for as well. She walked out with Humphrey items. She walked out with >> But I walked >> She's a grown up. >> Uh she didn't know anything, right? >> I didn't know nothing. >> She was just helping you out. >> Yeah. >> But you were the one who >> Yeah, but you can see >> That's right there. So, that's going to be up to you. You want to sign a complaint against both? >> I I want to at least show you the video. >> Okay, we'll watch it. >> And I'm just pushing the bag in for somebody >> The woman insists she did nothing wrong. According to loss prevention, however, the self-checkout cameras recorded everything that happened. >> So, they scanned this water. Underneath the water, there's a bunch of meat that never that it never comes out, they never scan it. And underneath here in the Macy's bag, the whole thing is the seafood that's not paid for. >> I can see it. I went and got the stuff. >> These items here that she's checking that that she's scanning. Is she paying for these? >> Yes. >> Okay. Yes, my bag was here, too. And I You don't see they don't know what I'm talking about. You got some mashed potatoes, and I came back and then I got the bag. You can show me. >> So, you left. You don't know >> Yeah, I had left to go get the mashed potatoes, and I came back. Now, I She wanted some mashed potatoes, and I went and got it in a box. >> These items are all hers? >> Uh correct. She This is all paid, yes. >> See, I you see me walking back. I was going to get the Idaho. So, I don't know from there on what >> Underneath the water, all that is not paid for on top of the cart. And then, like I said, this whole Macy's bag >> to be running. I want to see what happens. >> You want to run it back there? >> No, no, no. Keep it here. I want to see what the I don't know what I did. You must show me I didn't know what I'm saying. I'm showing you. >> Also, she had uh concealed items in her purse, too, like some Kool-Aid packets. All right there. >> She don't know what I'm even talking about. >> According to the report, the woman allegedly seen placing merchandise inside her friend's bag is identified as Tracy Lyons. >> And that whole bag is not paid for. >> You know this is coming back my way. I seen it and I picked up the stuff. I picked the bag up. See? I was going to go down and And you see how she put stuff in the bag. You see how she put stuff in the bag? You see that? You see this? Okay, see? I was I was talking to her. I got my back turned. Over and then I came back around. She put stuff in the bag. And I bring out the quick stuff over here. You see now I just pick up the bag and just put it in there. >> That whole bag is not paid for. And the first thing the first item she grabbed >> No, but do you understand it's not paid for? I just picked up the bag. That was it. That's what I did. Look, I have a whole bunch of more bags. Okay? >> All right, we're going to >> Yeah, I have nothing to do. And I see she put some the cards in there. And I'm talking. She's putting my card first. You know? >> So, all your items are paid for? >> No. >> She's trying to help her out. You like I don't know what she's got in there. >> Yeah. >> First time for both? >> Not that I know of, yeah. >> Same? >> You see her here grabbing both of their little carts. >> I love it. >> Although loss prevention believed both women should face charges, the evidence gathered was sufficient only to charge Tracy. >> She's putting them in her >> Oh, okay. >> She not paying for >> Yeah, that's what I'm saying. >> No, we're still asking her. >> So, it's only that white bag that they had in there? >> No. >> No, no, no. She didn't pay for any of these items over here. >> All right. >> Plus anything from the bottom. She put some of the stuff that she paid for in that white bag, including some stuff that she didn't pay for. So, she mixed the unpaid and non-paid together, put it all in one bag. Most of it in one bag. >> See, I I'm saying >> She not paying >> That's what we're going to do with the soup right there. >> She put it inside of the small bag. >> It's uh if if you want to send a complaint against She clearly concealed. That's That's no doubt about her. >> Yeah, correct. >> Do you want to send a complaint against this female also? >> Unfortunately, yes. My eye >> Um and the um >> With a few questions still unanswered, the officer contacts her supervisor for guidance on how to handle the situation. >> Just a quick question. So, what we have here is the uh two females. One of them One of them paid for all of her items. The other female, while the other female went to go get more food like my potatoes and whatever that she wants to grab, the other female start putting other stuff in her bag that she didn't pay for. And like in the in her own bag. The other female then come comes, picks up those bags that that that she assumed that she paid for and cuz she was already bagging it, and put it in the push cart for her, and and walked it out with her. No, no, no, no. So, one lady So, one lady completely finished her checkout. She paid for everything on items, and she had her own push cart. Her friend is scanning her items, her own items, and and and putting them to side or whatever. While she's While she does that, the other female who already paid for everything that she already got, she goes and gets my potatoes and basically gives it to her so she can check out with it. Um not knowing what she already scanned and what she didn't scan, the female takes the bags that she assumed that the lady scanned and put it in her push cart. Like in the in the other lady's push cart for her. And they both But she's claiming that she had no idea that she didn't scan those items. The other lady saying yeah, it's true. She didn't that that she didn't know I didn't scan those items. And the other lady uh like concealed other items. So, like the other lady clearly stole no no no doubt about it. The other lady is claiming that she didn't know that the other lady didn't scan those items. That she just assumed I would say so. But I'm I watched the footage myself, and I I would say that I believe that she didn't know. Do I know that they if they if they talked about it prior? I'm not sure, but there's no audio. From the video, the lady walks away clearly from the from the camera's view and goes in in different aisles and gets mashed potatoes. And comes back, and then whatever the lady bagged already that she didn't scan, she just picked picked picked up that bag, assumed that that she paid for it, and put it in her cart for her, and waited for her to scan the other things. Like she wasn't like rushing it and hiding it or anything like that. She waited for her, and she was giving her empty bags to to to put the bags to put the stuff that she thought she scanned, which were on the side, into that bag. So, >> After piecing everything together, the officers determined that Tracy acted independently of the other woman. As a result, only Tracy faces charges, though both are banned from returning to the store. >> Do you have um the time that they both came in separately? Was it how much difference of a time? >> I'll check for you. >> How much difference? You didn't come with her? >> Nope. >> Okay. You're admitting fully that she had no idea. >> Right. >> Okay. So, we're just going to charge her. She's going to be gone. Let's go. Okay. >> Like I said, she will still be banned from the store because >> That's fine. That's up to him. Just you know, it is what it is. I mean, your friend that your friends? >> Yes. >> Choose your friends wisely. You know, what I'm saying? >> Can I leave? >> Hold on. Just give me a second. We're going to take information. I know who you are, but we're still going to take information, okay? We just have to take it for face value. I mean, there's no audio in this. I don't I'm not sure that they planned it ahead of time, but they came in separate times. >> They have fun shoplifting. >> She clearly did leave the section when she was in. The bags that she was putting in there, it's reasonable for any person to believe that the bags that you were putting on the side were bags that were paid for. Anybody would believe that. Unless you guys spoke ahead of time and said, "Hey, we're going to do this together today." Did that happen? Okay, so we're going to take that at face value. We're going to charge you. How much are there on the receipt? 143? Are you Are you wanting her to pay or you want her to charge her? >> I never paid for it. >> Okay. That's her? >> Yeah. >> That was 20:48. Can you write down the 20:48 hours she came in? 20:48. >> At this point, the officers [music] wrap up the remaining details before releasing the other woman and preparing to take Tracy into custody. >> Huh? >> Sheila, that's a lot of little change. >> I mean, but you can see from their perspective what it looks like, right? >> I don't know your brother was Yeah. >> No, I understand. I just want to let you know why they brought you up here. From their view, it looks like you guys planned it, and it looks like you're helping her out take the stuff out. But watching it, I could see where the confusion can be. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> You want to put it here? >> Um target. >> All right. >> She going to be good to go, right? >> Just Is there something that she has to sign or anything like that? Do you want her to? All right, just know that you're banned from here, okay? >> Okay. >> Please be nice to her. I know that it's local store, but >> I appreciate it. >> All right, take care. >> Thank you, love. >> You You have your stuff? Your groceries? >> Uh I just have to get >> All right. The stuff that she paid for, she has it or not? >> It's upstairs. >> Okay. The stuff that she paid for only, right? Okay. Do you have anything on you, ma'am? >> No. >> Okay. Do you mind unbuttoning this shirt, please? You probably got a phone in your pocket. You came in a car? You walked here? You from town? It's free. for me? Sweat? >> I lost it before. I lost it before. >> Now that the search is over, the officers begin walking Tracy out to the patrol car. >> I'm not mobile right now. Your phone, you said? >> Yeah. >> We'll bring it to you out there. Check that. Go back. All right. >> Check that out. >> Okay. I'm assuming that's your bag. >> You got the receipt? >> You got the receipt and everything? All right. Thank you. Yeah. For you, I'll just in case you need it. >> 5 498 155 >> 49855 >> 49855 >> What? >> Yeah. >> What's your badge number? >> 217 >> Thank you. Appreciate it. >> It's just I don't know if you did but I'll just say your name. I know you're probably in the system but what's your name? Do that. All right. Take care. >> I'll sit here for a minute and then I'll meet you guys downstairs. >> Do you want EMTs to check you out? Do you want medical services to check you out? Okay. >> [music] >> The itemized list provided by [music] the store shows that the unpaid merchandise totaled $143.13. >> Take your time. >> You want to take the other side? Cuz that's the bad leg, right? >> Yeah. >> So, you want to go in using your left foot or your right foot? What do you want to do? Hold on. Yeah, use me as a support. Go ahead. You got it. >> I got you. I got your back. >> Where is the stuff I got here? >> I think it was on this side. Just hold this side. >> All right, you're good, man. You're good. Just back up a little bit, man. >> Just sit up. Just have to wait for >> I'll follow you. >> Here's our our items. >> Oh, her purse is in them. >> Like her items and the stuff she paid for. >> Oh. >> They have them in there. >> Let me help. >> Tracy was later charged with shoplifting and was released pending a court appearance.
