It's one thing to shoplift. It's another to drag your kid into it. And these parents crossed every line. Here are five cases when dumb shoplifters use their kids to steal for them. Number five, three generations, one shoplifting case. Our first case takes us to a Target in Palm Coast, Florida, where a grandmother was caught turning Black Friday into her personal shoplifting spree. Loss Prevention reported she took cosmetics, alcohol, and even diaper bags, all while involving a young child in the theft. When officers arrived, they were quick to speak with witnesses and gather the facts. >> How's it going? >> Hey, >> what's up, Taylor? >> Welcome. >> Hello. >> What's going on? >> Yeah, so this young lady had this stuff inside of that green bag and >> a backpack over here. Okay, >> she just decided to walk out. I stopped her, escorted her back here. More information reveals she's with mom and grandma here. >> Mom and grandma did not see me bringing her from points of sale through here. >> Okay, >> so they're completely out of the loop on that. Um, on camera, the mom is putting stuff in her bag/backpack as well. I don't know if she walked out with it or not when we escorted her back here. That's where our focus went. So, um, it looks like the mom is potentially walking around looking for her, who's obviously detained in here. >> Okay. >> So, >> how old are you? >> That's alcohol. >> Put it in your backpack. >> My grandma might >> They put it in your backpack? >> Yeah. >> So, where's mom and grandma at now? So, grandma's outside. >> Hello, Miss Tamara. >> Yes. >> How are you? >> I'm fine, thank you. >> You need to come with me. >> Uh, >> yep. I have your I have your I have Yolina and your granddaughter. Come on. You can come with me. I'll take this. Come on. >> Okay. >> Come on. Don't go right in these doors up here. Come, come with me. >> Oh. Oh, this way. >> Come here. I will push the cart. >> You come with me. >> Okay. >> Excuse me. Despite not trying to cover up their actions, the suspects still had plenty to say in their defense. >> I'm just going to stand right over there. Stand right over there. All right. So, here's the rest of it. You want to see if there's anything else that's uh >> Yeah. Do you guys have any receipts for anything today? Did anybody pay for anything at this store today? >> You didn't pay for anything? >> No. >> So, you just walked out with all this? >> This is the from the from the store. >> You didn't pay for any of it? >> No, we just because of the wallet was in Morocco. That's it. >> That's not a really good excuse. >> That's what I mean. You should have waited inside the store with the stuff though. >> That's That's my fault. I'm so sorry. >> Is this your backpack or does this backpack belong to Target? >> No, this is not a Target backpack. I >> I don't think that's a crazy question to ask. >> I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. No, it's not. It's not from >> Walmart. I'm going to open it up and look inside of it. Okay. But it's I mean this is this is what [Music] is this your poncho? >> Is this yours? >> Eggs are in there. You mind if I look in here? Get this stuff out. Can I get this stuff out? Our stuff there? Yeah. >> Oh wow. >> There's a lot. >> You're telling me there's no resale? No resale, guys. I'm telling you, there is no resale. This is $10. $10 $9. >> H >> weird. >> There's two uh drinks down there on the bottom, too. There's stuff on the very bottom. And >> good haul. Yeah, >> going with a healthy free ring gas. The >> good stuff. >> Judging by what they took, it's clear the suspects never planned to pay, and the items weren't exactly essential. They targeted alcohol and similar goods, assuming holiday chaos would help them slip by unnoticed. But that assumption didn't hold up. >> Not um not the black box, though. >> Yeah, that's what we should do. [Music] Nothing. the background. >> Yeah. Yep. >> Did you look through this, right? >> Yeah. >> She's from New York. >> You live in New York. Okay. So, you're down visiting for the holidays and getting a lot of wine. Okay. >> This is >> Oh, I that doesn't matter to me. >> Okay. >> My apologies. Really, I really apologize for this. I would like to apologize. >> Oh, you don't have to apologize to me. You didn't steal anything from me. >> No, like anyway, >> everyone always wants to apologize after they get caught. >> All right, get a receipt for you guys. >> Okay, hold. Thank you. >> You're welcome. Is your driver's license out of Florida? >> It's a Florida driver's license. >> I have a Florida. >> Okay. All right. >> Personal. >> You don't have any kind of ID? No driver's license, ID card, anything? >> No. >> You want to stand out with the other two? I'll question them. It's time for officers to see how the first suspect explains her part in all this. >> All right. Before I ask you any questions, I got to read you something. Okay. >> Before I ask you any questions, I have to read you your rights. Okay? You have the right to remain silent. You understand? You have the right to an attorney. Do you understand? I need a yes or no when I ask you these questions. >> Okay. I'm going to start over. You need to answer me with a yes or a no. Okay. You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand? With these rights in mind, do you want to answer some questions for me? It's a yes or no. Do you want to answer some questions for me? >> Some questions. >> I need a yes or no. If I ask you questions, are you going to answer questions for me? >> [ __ ] you. >> I need a yes or a no. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> I'm so sorry. I'm sorry. >> Okay. Don't apologize to me for. You didn't do anything to me. You did something to the Target store. Okay. So, walk me through what happened. >> This is last time. This is This is the first time and the last time I just >> Okay. Well, there's a whole lot of stuff there. Regardless, we'll we'll get to that. Okay. Talk talk me through what happened. You came to Target. What happened? >> With highdefin footage catching them in the act, there's little left for the suspect to explain. >> Then we uh you know I said uh maybe some uh visiting mom. You know that's just getting tough. Black Friday. It's a just opportunity to get some um gift for the family for the >> business as I said business partners. >> Okay. >> Because we have a party usually you know Christmas party and uh other you know just get the um after family holidays. So being said that what's the best you know just uh for the bottle to have the wine. It's not a hard litter or any anything. Just a champagne. That's >> But when you get things at a store, you know, you're supposed to pay for them, right? >> Of course. Of course. Of course. This is unquestionable. It's >> So, let me ask you this. Why? Let me Let me ask you this. Why were you putting alcoholic beverages in your 17-year-old daughter's backpack? >> Because I'm idiot. >> Okay. Because I am an idiot. One more time. This is I'm not saying that. >> This is the worst. This is the worst punishment. >> This is the worst punishment. >> I don't know how to say that. I I I could have said it worse worse than you. >> Because of her. >> Because of who? >> Because of >> your daughter. Okay. So, you put a bunch of bottles of wine and champagne in your daughter's backpack. Then you put a bunch of wine and champagne. Is that your bag or is that your mom's bag that you put them in? >> No, this is the old just floating the bags. >> She's already in trouble. But dragging her daughter into it shows just how poor her judgment really was. >> Huh. >> I mean, just from her house, >> right? But was it a bag you were carrying or was it a bag your mom was carrying? >> Which one? >> The one that was in the cart >> on on the cart. That's hers. >> So you put them in her car in her bag and you put them in your daughter's bag. >> Yes. >> I'm not lying. >> No, I'm I'm I'm not saying you are. >> I'm honest. I'm truly honest. This is my worst. >> Okay. You understand? going to have a hard time believing that you're truly honest because you just stole >> honest. >> You just stole almost $400 worth of things from Target. >> Yes. >> That's not real honest, right? >> No, it's not. >> Okay. So, understand >> stealing. I understand. >> Understand my my confusion about being honest then. All right. >> No, it doesn't matter which because this is this is as I said from the here from the from from home, >> right? And that I'm not even talking about the bag. I'm talking about all the things that you stole and put in the bags. >> Yes. >> I have no you know this this what I'm saying is this is the worst you can do you know in front of your child just because you have no budget as I said this is the first time. Do you have money to pay for the items? >> Really? No. >> No, you don't have the money. >> Of course, I can afford like three bottles, >> but not that that kind of champagne. >> Oh, yeah. It's really expensive, which is makes it even worse that you're saying you can't afford it, yet you're going to steal it. So, >> she has a wallet in the car and I stay there and she go back to pay. >> Okay, >> that's what she told me. >> So, why were you putting things in your granddaughter's backpack? >> Grandma's defense fell flat, especially with how casually she pulled her grandchild into the theft. And uh this is the same thing if you >> So you put them in your granddaughter's backpack. >> Just only Yeah. One bottle >> even one bottle. >> Me one bottle. >> Okay. >> Because >> why did you put it in the backpack? Why didn't you put it in the cart? >> Because she doesn't have a car. Yes. That's what's happening. >> Huh? >> She uh she's walked with me. She doesn't have a push car. >> I think I don't right now I don't remember. >> You don't remember why you were putting >> Because No, I I put in a in a in a bank. >> Yes. For my for my granddaughter. >> I I put because she doesn't have a pushka. I think she's uh you know to anyway she's a pay from the box. Sometimes I use if I use bed park sometimes I put it and uh go to register and took everything. It's not >> but this time you took all the stuff that was in the bag. >> Just only one. >> Let me finish. >> All the stuff that was in the bag in the cart that you had with you out at the car. None of that. >> Maybe we go to pay it. Come back to >> Why did you take it out of the store? >> This I don't know. It looks like >> that's stealing. >> Why you say it's stealing? >> Because you have Let me finish. Because you have things that belong to the store. You walked out of the store to your car with the stuff. No, >> I was without anything >> when I found you at the car >> because she p she have a car. I walk without anything. And she told me, "Wait, I have to go to see the granddaughter." That's what she told me. >> She can say she isn't aware of the theft, but the facts speak for themselves. This was a coordinated theft, and they made a juvenile part of it. But when I found you out, let let me When I found you out there. >> Yes. >> You had the grocery cart. >> Yes. >> And you had the bag that had all the wine in it. >> But I didn't know that they have all wine or something there. I didn't know that. >> Did you actually eat the >> I don't know. I don't see what she's was in in because I was on the bottle. >> So you're saying she put everything in the bag? I just want I bought my granddaughter one bottle. What? She uh That's it. Nothing else. And I don't have a car. >> So, how did all the other bottles get in your grand granddaughter's bag? >> You see in a Because I was in the bathroom. You see in a screen. I was in the bathroom. I don't see what the they're doing there because my stomach is 10% all the time. 10 15 minutes I have to go to bathroom because I had a cancer >> and I didn't know where she there that was she told just she push car and I follow her and she told me we have money in a wallet in the car that's what she told me wait we took uh Vlad because I give Vlad uh my key from the car >> Mhm. Huh? >> And I don't have anything. And I said, "Wait, I don't see anything what they put in in the uh in the back >> because I was not there. >> I was not there." >> Okay. >> I was in a bathroom. >> Okay. >> That's what I'm going to right now. >> Okay. Hold on. >> I didn't take anything. >> Stand up for me. >> I didn't take anything >> except the backpack that was on your back when you walked out of the store. Forget about that. Turn around. Put your hands behind your back. >> He's spelling it out clearly. This is a crime. But the suspect and her daughter seem to believe that excuses and pleading will soften the outcome. >> Video. >> There's video of you walking out with the backpack on your back with a bunch of bottles of wine in it. >> Just one car. >> Just only one b one. Only one. >> Stealing and stealing. Don't apologize to me. You didn't steal from me. >> Hang on a second. >> Get a hold of someone. Get her. >> Yes. Yes. Someone. >> Who's coming? >> Who's coming? >> My dad. >> Your dad's coming. >> Your dad. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, I am going to give these to all three of you. These two are going to go with you to the jail. I'll explain what they are. Here's yours. This is a trespass warning for Target. You are no longer ever allowed to come back to Target. If you come back to Target and you're seen, >> you will go to jail again. >> Okay. >> Thank you so much. >> Do you understand that? >> Do you understand that you cannot come back to Target? Okay. >> That means in the parking lot, that means in the store, anywhere. Nowhere at Target. >> Huh? >> What's dad's name? >> All right. Come on. And watch your head getting in. Aside from being trespassed from Target, both adults were charged with shoplifting and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Number four, this mom thought being a parent meant she was above the law. She wasn't. Our next case takes us to a shopright in Mount Laurel Township, New Jersey, where store staff caught a woman attempting to shoplift with four kids present. Watch how officers handle the case. [Applause] Hello. >> Hi. >> How you doing? >> Hello. I'm just going to leave the door open. So crammed in here. Most certainly I just got in my body. >> Not much room in here. Not much room in here. >> Do you have a driver's license on you? footage. This >> your case number. It's for you guys. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Cool. Uh, awesome. Thank you. That was this is her first real sniper. She said on the way back there. Go. trying to get this door just >> Yeah. >> Um [Music] [Music] 3647. We're clear. clear. >> With the staff's account on record, the officers worked to separate the children from the situation before continuing with the investigation. For now, they're waiting for the suspect's boyfriend to arrive and take custody. >> Okay. >> You were watching on camera or someone else? >> He's here. >> He's out front. >> Um I know he just pulled in, >> but I don't know. He's sitting for a second. >> Where did the other guy go? You want him to come? >> Okay. >> Her boyfriend's here with the kids, so we can finish this. >> Okay. >> Stand by. >> Just tell him to come to the front. >> Okay. Or the exit. >> Yeah. The exit side. >> Hey, >> just come to the front of the store. I'll see an officer. I'll come get you and come get the kids. Okay. Okay. Make some pizza. Okay. Yeah. Yes. I'll meet you. Okay. It's okay. All right. >> Yeah. >> Come on. Let's go. >> Come on. Let's go. >> With the kids out of the way, it's now time to question the woman. I'm just going to memorandize you. All right, just listen up. You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand that? Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. Do you understand that you have the right to talk to a lawyer and have him present with you while you are being questioned? Do you understand that? You cannot afford to hire a lawyer. One will be appointed at no cost to represent you before any questioning if you wish one. Do you understand that? Yes. >> If you agree to talk to us, a decision to waver these rights is now final and you may withdraw your waiver whenever you wish, either before or during questioning. Do you understand that? >> Yes. >> All right. >> All right. With your rights in mind, do you wish to waver your rights and speak with us? >> Yeah. >> All right. >> Is that new? >> No, this is just understand it. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> It's always been standard practice. I mean >> whether or not they're read verbatim every time doesn't matter as long as the the gist is there. >> I just need you to initial all these lines and then you just sign at the bottom for the interviewee. Yep. Right there. Good. Thank you. All right. So what happened today? >> Um living on one income is not easy and needed food. So came got what I could with the money that I had and got more than I had money for, >> which is embarrassing, but in the world we live in now, it's not easy to >> No, I understand. But obviously they're still going. >> I know. I know. They're stupid and I know >> they understand her hardships, but even with three children to care for, the officers can't overlook the crime. >> So you took the items and then from there you just left the store. >> I'm in here. Yeah. Well, I paid for the one I could pay for. Yeah. >> And then walked out. >> Yeah. >> Have you shop before? >> This is my first time. >> All right. So, >> okay. >> This is my first time. >> Ever. >> Listen. Right now, you're going to be placed under arrest. All right. So, you can just stand up. I'll >> take your purse. Zip it frozen. >> Have to check it first. Yeah. No bombs, knives, or anything like that. >> Oh, there's a knife. >> Oh, yeah. >> Can you make sure my kids are not in the >> Yeah, they're with your boyfriend. >> No, no, they mean like not >> Yeah, we we'll make sure. That's why we waited out of the uh All right. on the other hand. >> It has to be today. I'm just going to double lock them so they don't tighten up on you. >> I don't know if you meant to do it like above my wrist. I don't know if you want to do it. >> I'll redo it for you. >> What kind of car? of a support white. >> The case concludes with a woman being formally charged with shoplifting. >> Toward the back or like right here? >> Towards the back. >> Like square right there. >> Okay. Sorry. >> I already [Applause] got the second car in and on the passenger side on the left. On the left. >> Yeah. thing. That's not as uh high-tech as yours. You need the key and turn at the same time. >> Did you hit the trunk button? >> I hit a lot. >> No, I have a trunk button. >> According to court records, the woman's shoplifting charge was later downgraded to disorderly conduct. She was found guilty and was asked to pay $133 in fines. Number three, entitled woman's example to her daughter is how to get caught stealing. On May 19th, 2024, officers in Akoi, Florida responded to a call from Walmart after reports surfaced of a woman concealing items while accompanied by a young girl. Loss prevention had already stepped in, and now it was time for police to take over. That's her first. Thank you. Obviously, there was Hi. >> What's your name? >> Did you all drive it together? >> Yeah. >> All right, cool. I'mma have him go hang out in the car. She doesn't need to be a part of it. Can you just grab his receipts? Whatever he has. >> All right, cool. Start with that. Take the daughter and take her to the car. >> Okay. >> First things first, we're going to take care of the child. Okay. >> Secondly, I'm going to let you know I just got cold. I don't know anything that's going on. However, I've been here before >> plenty of times. Reference, uh, shoplift thing, complaints. So, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt to be honest with me. >> I'm always going to be honest. I'm not going to lie. >> Is there anything on you in your bag? Anything else that's unpaid for? >> There's probably something in my bag. >> Anything on you? >> No. >> All right. Can you stand up? I'm going to do a quick cut down time. >> That's my face. >> That's cool. All right. Anything? Nothing. Cool. Cool. >> So, can I go in there first? Sure. >> And you said there's going to be items. Is this not for? All right. Cool. >> Is that? >> All right. This >> This >> What else? Nothing else. >> Do you have ID? >> No, I didn't bring my ID. I can hear my >> We'll verify your credit card. That's going to be a factor. >> She may be pleading now, but there's something even more troubling. This isn't her first defense. >> Why do I have to go to jail? My baby's in the car. >> Please, sir. >> Let me let me ask you a question. I want you to be honest with me. >> I will. >> Are you Are you a drug addict? I'm a ex addict. I'm an ex user. I'm a recovering addict. >> I know because I saw your picture and >> No, I know that I'm a recovering. I go to now my baby. >> She's going to search you. Your baby's going to be fine. >> I know. But the baby's going to be in jail. >> Okay. The baby's going to be fine. >> Why can't you give me a notice to >> Because I don't even know about a notice to appear. This is No, you're good. I take care of them at home. Like, I'm the one that stand up for me. I get it. Ma'am, please. >> Hold on. Just turn around. >> My aunt, please. I take care of them. I'm like, they can't take her out. I do everything for him. >> This ain't about being heartless. >> No, I know that. But I was very honest with you guys, >> and I understand that, but I'm going to be I'm going to keep it real with you. We have plenty of evidence. >> No, I know. I didn't lie. I didn't lie on I didn't lie about anything, though. >> I know you didn't. And guess what? That's going to go in the report. >> Your compliance is give me a notice to appear. I take care of them >> because the fact that you know about a notice to appear is do me a favor. Remember me? The one that's nice. >> Yes, ma'am. >> I would have taken you two. >> Okay. >> Okay. Let already knows I already filled him right now, man. Okay. >> Everything's set. Everything's good. Don't find me out now. >> Yes. >> After hearing she'll be taken in and charged, the woman begins pleading and crying, still hoping her honesty might get her off the hook. >> Katrina, >> I want you to learn this. I've learned I haven't been in trouble in a very long time. >> Do you want us to give um your personal items to >> to Nick? Nick, >> I can't believe you want to take care of him. I take I do everything for him. Irina, do you want to keep the bag or you want to go with your boyfriend to him? But I do everything for them. >> In about in about 5 to 6 hours, you'll be able to bond out and then you'll be able to fix >> and I have a seat. Literally. >> All right. I'm going >> I do everything for them. Like I feed them and I get my daughter ready for school in the >> I understand that. But you got to make when you when this stuff when you doing this stuff, you got to think of this. >> I know that. I'm not being stupid. I didn't I didn't like all >> for nothing. >> I appreciate that. It's happening. >> It's happening. >> It's not like my first time going to jail. It's not like I'm >> Exactly. >> But not for this though, sir. This is right. But this is But you got to stop doing this type of stuff. >> I haven't been in trouble in a long time. >> No face. This is not personal. >> I know. >> I'm not mad at you. It's not personal. But but but the good circumstances of them being at home like I take care of them. He can't do >> You got to learn this stuff, Kina. You can't come in the store and take stuff. >> I'm the one that takes I'm the one that takes care. >> And look at what you took. She keeps bringing up her responsibilities, caring for her partner and daughter as if to justify her actions. But with a prior record and nearly $200 worth of non-essential items stuffed in her bag, the officers are quick to point out that this wasn't about necessity. It was about choice. It wasn't like it wasn't like diap, you know, >> she don't wear diapers. >> There's nothing on here. This the soda. Okay, that I get uh potato soda. Okay. Well, that's literally every >> everything else that you took was not was like non essential stuff. >> So, that have to take you. >> I understand. You got to accept it. >> But why can't you just please give me one chance just for one night? >> No. He and he'll tell you. I give people chances all the time. >> Why won't you give me a chance? I You have never seen me before, Mr. PCO. You've never seen me before. >> $193 worth of non-essential items. >> It's under 300. It's not. It doesn't matter. See, the fact that you're saying that's very entitled. >> No, I know because I have a brand charge. That's why that's only Marian County, right? >> Yeah. But it's not from It's not from taking anything. >> I understand that. But you haven't You got to learn your >> I didn't have to take care of them. I wouldn't care about going I don't care about going to jail, but I wouldn't be begging you not to let me go. Like I take I feed him. I bathe him. I bathe him. >> 5 hours you'll be able to bond out 10% of what it is. >> You can't get up to a a bondsman. How is he going to get up there? I'm the driver. I do everything for him. This is how it works. I'm going to break it down to you. You're in Orange County. Okay. Given her past arrest for grand theft, the woman knows full well how this is going to end. And with the store making it clear they want to pursue charges. It's only a matter of time before she's taken in again. >> A few hours you're going to get a bun and going to be it's probably going to be like 500 bucks and half 10% of that 50 bucks. >> Oh, okay. >> Okay. You got to understand something. >> You can't come here. >> You're absolutely correct, sir. And I said I was I was apologizing to him before he came. >> I know. And listen and listen. >> I knew if I was the one or not. >> Listen, I'm going to keep it honest with you. You're you're his what is this? So, if I didn't have them to take care of that would care about going. >> But guess what? He's ready. He's been told and he's like, "Okay, I I know what I got to do." He's like, "All right, he's going to handle." >> I know. But he's he's not going. That's why >> he's fine. I talked to him. I said, "You going to be all right?" >> Huh? >> I don't know. I may not cuz I got to take her. >> So, I may not >> I'm going to give you this back. >> Can you give me uh Can you stay? >> It's done, ma'am. I'm sorry to >> I understand. >> Uh staple it. >> It's not personal. I'm not I'm not doing this to bust your >> chops. I saying so I know you have a job to do. I understand. I >> exactly >> when I tell you I was arrested for my violate of probation. Me and the officer had a great conversation. Officer, >> are you on probation now? >> No, I'm not. No, no. I was saying when I was on probation. Um, >> so you may release right now? >> No. No, I'm not. >> So, what are you on? You're off off I haven't been You see, I haven't been years. >> Listen. They're going to look at my report. My report's going to say you were compliant. It's going to say you were >> I know what the hell >> I understand from I should have thought about that. Yeah. >> I'm just saying, sir. >> Do you know how many things are around here where we hook you up and get you? >> No, I didn't know that. I don't know any of that. They act like they don't have any resources or anything. Sir, if you could tell me. I >> They'll even point you to resources. >> I would love to know >> because he would rather he would rather point you to resources than get your >> I would love to know where the resources are. >> He can tell you they're prosecuting. So, that's another reason, >> right? >> She makes one final plea, but at this point, the outcome is already sealed. So, I'm going to go ahead and take you. It's going to be quick. >> I'm going to drop you off. >> Everything's going to be fine. >> Relax. >> I have to worry about them. My daughter has to >> Don't worry about them. They're going to be fine. They're not going to miss any more days. So, I'm already going to do everything. >> They're not going to miss no days. Okay. But come on. Stand on up. We're going to take a trip. Okay. Not a bit not the biggest of deals. >> It's not the biggest I have. My kid and my my my baby. >> Should have thought about that. You're absolutely >> if you don't if you not have aware ready um 1015 one time. >> Okay. He knows what's up. So he's ready to >> any cut out. >> I'm going to have Latrina on board. >> You can see I haven't been in trouble in a really long time. >> And I understand. That's good. That's really good. I've been really good the last couple years. Especially if you see like you know every I'm not going anywhere instead of running. >> No, I know. I already know, man. I know. Listen, >> you know, you can tell what's going >> Not always. Not always. But >> you've been all right. >> You've been all right. >> No, I didn't. >> No, you didn't. And I'm going to be honest with you, Lina. That's going to go in the report. But you were honest. I didn't try to, you know, lie or say it wasn't me or anything like I shouldn't have did that with my kid. >> Here's the thing. >> I know that. >> All right, lean back so I can put this >> I'm sorry. >> No, you're good, love. You're good. Sorry. >> Listen, you're being fine, man. You're not being disrespectful or rude or anything like that. Can you come over to me a little bit? Yeah, this way. Thank you. I'm It's okay. >> I'm trying not to reach around you too much here. >> And I'm a little fat. >> Toast up. All right, give me a second. Okay. >> I've always been cool. I've been very polite. >> No, you've been cool. You've been really cool. Give me a second. Okay. >> In the end, the woman was charged with larseny and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Number two, when hiding stolen goods means stuffing them with your kids belongings. In our next case, officers respond to a Walmart where a woman was reportedly hiding stolen goods in a stroller involving one of her children. By the time they arrive, store security already has the suspect in the back office. >> Hello. >> Hi. >> How's it going? >> Um, hello. >> Oh, look at that. >> So, no ID. >> Okay. >> Neither card. She has she has something on her phone, but it's not a family. Sorry. That's okay. So, the total you have um hang on, let me give you a grand total. I got two receipts 14870 combined. Um the stuff on the left, she said this is her sister. Don't know. There's no ID and she doesn't want to talk. And then this one here, she gave me the false information first, her name, but since told me the truth, her name is Madison. >> And that stuff she concealed. So all together they concealed around the baby in the stroller and pushed it out the door. >> Nice. >> How old are you? >> 14. Gotcha. You ever been to jail before? >> Okay. You might be going today. Who do you know that can come pick up your child? Start making some calls. All right. You both have the right to remain silent. Anything you say or do can't be used against you in court. You have the right to consult with and have present attorney before, during, and after questioning. If you decide to speak with me about the accident, you can stop at any time. Do you understand your rights? >> Okay. >> Altogether, she attempted to steal around $150 worth of merchandise. But more troubling is her decision to involve children in the act. So what which stuff did you conceal? >> Um I just for >> No, ma'am. Not all of that. >> All right. So this stuff here. >> Yeah. >> What stuff? [Applause] All right, we all work together to hide about $150. >> I need a chair or something. How long are we going to be here? >> We're going to be here for a little bit. [Music] >> What's What's Walmart's policy on juveniles >> for her? We won't be >> You won't? >> No, I do need a review. [Music] All right. You want to prosecute on the >> Sorry. >> You want to prosecute on the adult bread? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Ma'am, what's your last name? >> Can you spell it for me? >> R O W >> R O W. >> You ever been to jail before? >> No. >> What's your first name? >> Maxine. >> Maxine. and may exactly >> just just hang tight for a couple minutes. Okay. >> Okay. >> Well, right now we're in a in a criminal investigation, so you're just going to have to wait. >> Even now, she tries to use her children as a shield from the consequences, but the officer quickly shuts that down. >> What's your middle name? What's your middle name? Elizabeth. You got a driver's license. What's your date of birth? Okay. >> I'm sorry. >> I I have to be with you at all times right now or one of us. So, Pam, if you want to escort her to the >> the bathroom and whatever. It's not my car and get >> We just got We have to No, you can't leave this area right now. We have to wait until somebody else and I really do need to stop in the car. If you can please [Music] the child. Put >> your hands in front of you. I don't know. Let's go. [Music] Bad move today. Bad bad move. Where's your car at? >> Oh, get to find it now. Let's go. [Music] Not long after, the suspect's mother shows up to take custody of the children. And it's clear from her demeanor that she's far from pleased with her daughter's actions. >> You need this. >> Your daughter? >> Yes. [Music] But whose idea was it? [Music] Well, that's right. >> Well, they do what they do, don't they? You've got a child, a six-month old baby, and you're here with her shifting. >> Thank you very much. The aggravating factor in this scenario is you have two juveniles that you're responsible for here. I have said you have nothing to do with her. How many times have I said stay away? What was she stealing? >> And and this and this business of oh they shouldn't be arresting me or whatever committed a crime. So we make an arrest based on our judgment of the facts and circumstances not whether or >> oh we're making we're making an ideal of this or that. >> Is this what you're stealing? >> Yes. Why? We're just stealing toiletries. >> You don't need stuff, Madison. You've asked for enough money to buy stuff. You don't need to steal. >> No. If we don't have the money, she gets she >> just stays until her trial. >> Okay. What do you want to do? >> I don't know, man. I don't remember. Don't know yet. You know that car's gone there. Not getting that back. >> Thank you. >> Ultimately, the store pressed charges against the mother, but spared the juvenile from prosecution, leaving the adult suspect to deal with the outcome alone. is um a juvenile. Walmart elects not to prosecute. So, she's getting all scott free. She's still being listed as part of the report. Um >> they should they probably should stay away from each other. All right. Thank you, sir. I appreciate it. >> You too, man. Yeah. Yeah. >> Yes, man. >> Yeah. >> So, if I don't get tomorrow, >> um how long will I be in there? >> It's going to be a couple months. Could be a couple years. I mean, it just depends. It's not going to be a couple years, but I'm just saying it would be until your trial. Um, but you can bail out at any time. As long as you have a bond, you can bail out. >> Probably going to be 5,000, I think. 5 to 10,000. Yeah. The petty theft is not going to be a lot. The fact that you are uh responsible for two juveniles at this time, that's what's going to, you know, be the the higher amount, but I can't see it being more being more than 10. >> This is yours. Yeah, >> I wasn't able to attach a photo of the evidence. So, if you want to take a picture, >> um is Could you not put me in handcuffs on someone? >> Yeah, that's fine. >> It's just they're really uncomfortable. Well, listen, ma'am. Getting arrested isn't comfortable. I know. >> All right. And you seem But listen to me. You seem to have this attitude of like, "Oh, well, I did wrong, but you know, everything will bend and flex for me, and that's not how it goes." You're in the custody of the state now for the county. The woman was eventually taken to Sony County Jail, facing charges of retail theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Number one, this mom thought tears and excuses would get her out of a felony. On July 30th, 2024, Target staff reported a woman shoplifting while accompanied by her visibly injured child, prompting officers to step in. [Music] Give me one second. I'll be right back out. >> You need to finish it though. >> Yeah, please. And thank you. Okay. No, >> you played Casey could like everybody's okay. >> I'm going to come home and understand me. >> This is not your fault, >> Sarah. Right. >> Yes. >> Okay. I'm Deputy Sher. Okay. Um, so I just got to read you this real quick before I ask you anything. All right. Is a right to remain silent. Anything you say can or will be used against you in court law. You have the right to talk to a lawyer and have him represent with you while you ring question. You can offer to hire a lawyer. One will be appointed to represent you before any questioning if you wish. You can decide at any time to exercise these rights and not answer any questions or make any statements. Do you understand these rights as I read them to you? >> She may be crying now, but that won't stop the officers from pressing forward. There are still tough questions she needs to answer. >> Um, my son's birthday was this weekend. >> Mhm. And um it's been an exciting weekend and uh I I I spent a little money and um he got hurt today on the uh scooter and 911 came to our house, picked him up, took him to the emergency Um, he grabbed his elbow and >> what what happened once he got here? >> We got He grabbed his elbow and we left the hospital and came here to get >> Excuse me. If you want, do you have somebody that can come pick him up? >> He's coming. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Do you want to wait until your son's not here and we can talk after that? >> No, it's just me and him. >> Okay. >> It's just me and these two boys. >> Okay. >> What happened to your life? >> It happened today. It just happened like 2 hours ago. I came We came here to get food from when we left the hospital. Right. So, I know she's already talked to you, but I've talked to them just just a touch. Um, so what did you We know you stole items. That's not really in question. So, what did you steal? >> Cat food, chicken, but I think those are the So, there was things that weren't scammed. Um, >> her method was simple. Skip scan and pocket the savings. But over $60 in unpaid items is hard to miss. >> So, did you just steal food items? >> Oh, so are those the things you stole? >> And why and why did we do it today? >> Sorry. What was the uh total? >> 64.93. >> Okay. Um >> Am I good to sign this? >> Yeah. >> Do you have the statement form or No, >> I'm working on it right now. >> Perfect. >> You doing video? I'm doing the statement. >> Okay. >> Snap her fingers and be in your hand. 64.93. Perfect. [Music] You >> want to sit and chair? >> Thank you though. Sure. >> Is it June or July? July. >> July. >> August. Like tomorrow or something. >> Sometimes they just together. Let me get somewhere else to notoriize someone. Get that back. >> I need this. All you need to worry about is you. >> Is this her phone number? >> No. >> No. I started running. >> Okay. >> As the officers sip through her things, the woman breaks down in tears, but the officers remain focused on the task at hand. >> Yours is 6260 number. >> Okay. Can you just send that real quick? [Music] >> Your whole bag is just going to go with them. They're going to take your phone with you, but your bag is going to go with them. Just there's so much >> Oh, yeah. Way [Music] to um What about this medication? You going to be good without it until you get it? >> No, I'm not. >> You going to need it? >> Yep. >> How much of this did you just take? >> Two. >> What? >> Not negatively today. >> You're not going to have any negative reactions, are you? >> When I get there today, Thank you. >> That was not good. >> I can't I please call her. Please, honey. Like I know. Listen. Listen. I'm still here. I'm still on this planet. You hear me? It's going to be so much worse. Are we going to get out? We're going to come home. These won't be able to go with her. >> You can write them down and let the chill. >> You should don't take the medication. I just >> No. Yeah. Just leave them in there first. Yeah. >> The officers soon learned that she's on felony probation, which means this arrest could carry even heavier consequences. >> That's the new one they sent me. >> They sent you a new one. That's good. But I but it doesn't seem off. >> So I was sitting up here helping with a shoplifting case. >> She come running up to me with a knife stuck to her finger and I was likeuck Yeah. Like it was like pinched on her finger. She was trying to close it and I was like if I take that off it's going to tear. So I had to call rescue to have them come and do it. All right. So that is going to go with them. We got your phone. This is the stuff that you pay for that has been paid for. Correct. Are you okay with this going with your son? Your bag. >> Yeah. Um, what are we going to do? What about you? >> My car to the truck. >> Can I do it? You're going to have to take the truck. >> I think the keys >> are in your bag. >> They're in the bag. >> What's your first name, buddy? >> I have it already. >> So, what is the car that I'm pretty sure? >> Is it the V? >> Calm down. Calm down. Harley coming. >> They are. >> Who's that? >> Harley. >> Harley. >> Okay. >> Um, >> we're still good. >> Um, so before I leave, cuz I just want to make sure Carter's okay. You're 100% okay letting this guy take Carter? >> Yeah. >> Are you okay with it? >> Yeah. >> Be a good dude. >> No. >> All right. Cuz if I need to fight him, let me know. I'll fight him. I'm joking. I'm not going to fight. They speak gently to the crying mother and child, offering reassurance where they can, but the reality of the situation remains unchanged. >> His dog's probably the meanest. >> So, >> what should I go in? David, should I do? >> Well, real quick, who is coming to pick him up? >> Stefan or her ex-boyfriend? >> Do you guys still talk really at all? >> Yeah. Yeah, he was just at his birthday party this weekend at the Hilton with us like >> we were together 10 years. We've only been separated six months. >> Okay. I I just want that warmer fussy knowing that he's going to spot. Okay. So, if you are both saying it's okay, you don't need You have you already spoke to Jeff [Music] [Music] so so This is not anything. This is bad decisions on my part. This is not anything to do with you. >> They're not. >> I'm going to figure this out. I'm going to figure this out. >> Yeah. What about the food stamps? Can I do that? >> I don't know. How do I feel this out? Can I? >> It's obvious she never expected things to go this far. Now that she's been caught, she's doing everything she can to walk it back, insisting she can just pay for the merchandise. But at this point, the damage is done. And her offer doesn't change the fact that a crime was committed. >> God, just please let me pay for this. Please, God, let me pay for this. >> I'll uh once on when someone comes and picks him up, um we'll we'll talk. Okay. Is she going to go once they pick him up? >> Hm. >> Is she going to go once they pick me up? >> I'm going to talk to her once once they come get you. Okay. >> He said he was 45 minutes away and then he was >> Can he go and like if I was in the store, I would allow him to go and come back. >> It's He's responsible. Like I said, I'm a widow. His daddy's dead. It's just I have no family. He has no We don't have family. It's just me and these boys. That works. >> I think Harley's on the >> s. You're good if you want to do whatever. >> Yeah. >> The truck. >> Just one second. >> He's just making our call. >> So, is there a chance that she's not going to go? I don't know what he's doing right now, but like I said, I'm going to have to talk to her because there's some there's some other factors that I need to talk about with your mom. Okay. >> I don't know what she's talking about. >> After handling the arrest, ensuring the child's safety, and securing the evidence, the officers now move to wrap up the case. >> Is he okay to drink with me? That's up to her. >> Are you okay if I didn't break you? Can I move the restroom? >> Of course. Be right back. Stay with her. Okay. >> Want some water? >> So, >> take take a minute. I I'm not even going to try to say that I understand or, you know, because trust me, I feel bad about this. I'm going to have a supper. [Music] I'll explain after you have a minute. Okay. >> No, I mean goes to jail for >> So you do. That's I mean and obviously your son loves you so much and I can tell you right now, Deputy Schmidt and I like our hearts are breaking right now doing this because if there weren't extra factors the passing. >> No, no, no. Are you on probation? Between the probation and then you have a non-extraditable warrant for failure to appear. >> Yeah, but it's >> so so hear me out. >> That's that for for underage consumption. So that's I was 21. >> I understand. But when we have factors like that, I can't >> but that's >> I'm between the probation that's felony. >> But there's nothing else that you guys think I did, right? >> No. >> Okay. Listen, listen. Take a moment, okay? I'm going to tell you. I'm being so serious with you. If I had the option to let you go, >> I would give you a court date and call it a day. >> The officers had no choice but to proceed with a legal course of action. As a result, the woman faced charges of petty theft. What's your verdict? Let me know in the comments, and I'll see you in the next video. As always, stay safe out there, folks.
