Call me back. >> Why don't we do this? Let's go over and talk to him and see if we can get to the bottom of this. >> But he already just walked up on me. I don't want to talk about nothing. I just wanted to show They told me to show a receipt to the police when I get here. And these are the three items that they told me that I took but some perfume They didn't even mean They didn't even say nothing about perfume. They just said these right here. And this jacket was here. >> Okay. Let's go on the other side. This guy's trying to leave. I need you to talk to him. >> Who was him? >> My partner. >> Oh, okay. >> And then I'm going to go talk to him and see if we can figure this out. >> As the other officer handles the suspect, the primary officer turns to the loss prevention officer for more details about what led to the call. >> Good. >> So, that bedding and that Yeah, so she has had prior incidents here before. They were a little smaller and then also Oak Lawn on 95th. Okay. So, that's why we knew she was a known offender and we started watching her. >> Okay. >> But yeah, we have everything on camera. >> Okay. And where did you recover your items? >> On the west side. >> Okay. >> side vestibule. >> So, you were inside the vestibule. Did you approach her and identify yourself or did she just drop it? >> Yes, no, we approached saying we're target security. We're going to need that stuff back. I tried to explain to her it's in and out, it's 50 bucks. >> Uh-huh. >> She would have been in and out. But then she started getting really aggressive towards us. So, I told my team to >> Okay. >> push back. But then I was on the phone with the operator. She was asking if I could get a plate. So, that's why I walked this way but still safe distance. >> Yeah. >> Then she hopped out of the car and started charging towards me. >> Okay. >> She She was charging towards me. Until you guys pulled up. >> Okay. So, what are we doing with her? >> Um well, I want to cite for sure Okay. Complaints. >> Okay. >> So, the reason we didn't do anything with an assault Uh >> Did you feel like you were going to be battered by her? >> I thought she was going to swing. For sure. I thought she was. >> Okay. Well, let's go over here. You Okay. We're going to go talk to her and then we'll go from there. Okay. Um Can you step out, Lashawna? I got to talk to you for a second. About what the gentleman said. I got to make sure everything is okay. So, come on out for me, please. >> The suspect is clearly frustrated that she can't leave, but the officer's calm approach gets her to cooperate. >> Okay. >> Anybody else in there with you? >> No, it's not. >> Okay. Here's where we're at, kiddo. >> What happened? >> Um he's got a slightly different story. >> How he got a slightly different story? >> Well, he mentioned perfume. >> I don't have no perfume. >> Okay. But he said you did have perfume. >> I don't have no perfume and I made that clear. Y'all, I'm telling y'all I don't have nothing and I'm ready to go. >> Okay, so she just told me I have to show y'all a receipt and I did my job. Well, that's a different story than he told us. What he told us is you walked out with three bottles of perfume. >> have no perfume with me. >> You're not letting me finish. You walked out of the store into the vestibule with three bottles of perfume when he approached you, you gave him the perfume and then you came towards >> gave him anything. >> Okay. Well, he's telling us a different story. He says it's all caught on video. >> Okay, you do what y'all Y'all can do what y'all got to do. I don't know what y'all but he asked me to show my my receipt and then when I gave him my receipt, he told me I stole the the shirts and stuff and I said, "No, I didn't." He said, "Well, he said, "Well, show the police your receipt and that's it." And then he just told me also that he don't um What he tell me? When I showed the receipt, that's he said I took the jacket and that was the last thing we had talked about. I said, "What jacket?" And then I went back in there and said I said to y'all is all these y'all stuff. They said you just paid for. I said, "Okay." So, and then he said, "Don't worry about it." And then that's when he got on the phone with you guys. >> Right. Well, then he also told us that you've had a few dealings with Target. Is that true? >> Who had a dealing with Target? >> You did. >> No, I did not. Somebody stole Somebody stole from me. >> Okay. Well, he said that you've had a dealing with the Target in Oak Lawn and >> Yeah, that's the that's the one. >> Okay. And the Target here and you're not allowed here. >> Who? I never had that. Never in my life. Never. They just stole from me from Target over there. >> Target stole from you? >> No, the the customers just stole some stuff from me, my bags and everything. And they just caught all the thieves there. Just recently this weekend that just happened. >> Okay. >> I never had a dealing with no Target, no store. >> Eager to explain herself, she starts talking again. But the officer quickly brings the focus back to why the staff contacted them in the first place. >> Okay. >> Well, the problem also is that if you were he the loss prevention said you came to the car >> Mhm. >> that he got on the phone with us and then you got out of the car and then you charged him >> Did I charged him? >> Yep. in an aggressive manner. Did you do that? >> I asked him I said I said so what's this your stuff again? I said what did the police say so I can tell them that this is mine. I said I've been walking in your store cuz yes I did say something but I didn't charge like you know running to him like that. I said he told me step back but you didn't step back with me when I told y'all to step back and ask for a receipt but did y'all step back? All y'all ganged up on me doing this. All y'all doing this to me but y'all didn't do that to me and ask me for a receipt. So he got the receipt from me. He told me show the police the receipt. So now I'm showing the police my receipt and I walked back up in there. I said DO Y'ALL SELL REEBOK in here? They said no, we do not sell Reebok. That's my clue right there. That's it. >> Okay. Well, unfortunately at this point I'm going to have to detain you. So do me a favor, turn around and put your hands behind your back for me. Well, we're investigating a retail theft and a criminal trespass to property. >> Hold on, let me call my mama. >> Hold on. But do me a favor, turn around. >> No, wait wait a minute. No, y'all don't do this to me. Let me call my mama like cuz I'm not finna be >> Hold. >> What is your mom going to do? >> Hold on. Right now you're being detained. So you can call your mom as as much as you want once we figure this out. >> So >> I'm going to get the same for what now? >> We're investigating a retail theft. >> Of what theft did I take? Hold on. Okay, sir. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. >> Listen. >> At this point, the officer stayed cautious as she tries to stall the arrest, but they continue handling her patiently. >> What are we What are we reaching for? >> I'm not getting >> Just tell us what you're doing. Just tell us. >> Hold on. Wait one moment, sir. Can I get my keys? Let me get my keys, please. Let me get my keys. Can I get Can y'all please give me my keys? Can I lock my car, Y'ALL? CAN YOU CAN YOU >> HOLD ON. IT'S OKAY. >> STOP. DON'T. >> Hold on. Hold on. >> CAN Y'ALL CUZ Y'ALL CUZ AIN'T no way >> Let go of your phone. I don't want you to break your phone. >> Huh? >> We will take care of this. Just give me your phone so it doesn't get broke, please. I I I will hold on to it and I'll give it back. Okay? Mike is going to have your phone. Just give me 1 second. >> No, it's not in my purse. >> Okay. Where is your keys, honey? >> It's my keys. >> I know. I'm asking where your keys at. I don't I thought they were in your purse. >> They on the side. They on the side. >> On the side? There's no keys here, kiddo. Okay, you're sure they're not in here? Okay, that's fine. I'm looking for your key. Here they are. >> The officer now gathers and secures her belongings before the ride to the station. >> Yeah, we're going to walk over to the car and we're going to go from there. You ready? It's going right there. Okay? >> Do these feel all right? >> Okay. >> So, you like my car though? >> Yeah, we're going to take care of it. >> So, y'all putting me back y'all going to bring me back to my car, right? >> Absolutely. They claim they have documentation and they got video of all this. >> They said did they did they say that I have Did they say that I was told this I got some documents >> and then we're going to determine what We're going to see what actually happened. >> Okay, what was your question again? >> No, I'm >> We're going to go to this I'm up here. Jimmy, can you unlace that? >> Yeah. How is it? >> Just sit up. Okay, have a seat. Watch it, you're going to drop a little bit. Cuz you're just going to have a seat in my vehicle. But I think the cell phone's still in there, huh? >> I think so. It must be. >> Okay. Face this way. I can open that up for you real quick. Can you watch >> Oh, I need my wallet. Are you going to talk to me inside the car? >> What's your other feet? >> Alongside possible charges, the officers now let them know they're no longer allowed back at the store. >> So, real quick, obviously we got dispatched here in regards to a shoplifting and then they're wanting you to be newly trespassed. I still need to go talk to them about what happened and then I'll come talk to you, but in the meantime I'm going to have you sit in here, okay? You can put in stick your butt down. So, the other one is being listed as 28. Can you go snake her? We'll put her in your car and then I'll go back inside to watch 27. >> All right. You here for a second. Can you go with me, please? >> Yes. >> Do you have any belongings or anything like that? >> No, but I have a makeup bag. >> Is that hers? >> This bag with the heart on it. That was >> That belongs to both of them? >> Right. >> Yes. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, so the pink bag is yours, right? And then the black one is Amelia's? And then that's your stuff right there as well? >> And then the phone is the one in my other unit. Okay. So all that stuff is hers? >> Yeah. >> Okay. You can grab your stuff. How old are you? 17. >> 10. That's my little sister. >> Um so right now, I got to place you in a vehicle for right now just cuz you're 17 and I believe you're listed as a runaway. >> She lives with She lives with her sister. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, they're they're they're trying to >> We're going to talk to them, but cuz there's two of you, we got to deal with the other part first and then >> With both teens detained, the female officer checks in with their housing manager about the incident. After all, one of the suspects has a complicated situation. >> So what I know is that they got a hot ceiling. >> Okay. >> She showed me the receipt. It's 27. I used to work loss prevention, so I kind of explained to her that I understood like they They saw them. They have them on video. And stuff. >> Did the juvenile call you? Is that how you guys got here or how did you end up here? >> Yeah, so the juvenile called. Well, actually Amelia called me. >> Fair enough. >> Um and she was saying that they were They were calling APD and so I don't know if you know Amelia like Sorry. We just got her out. She just reported it to juvenile today. And so I completely understand that what they were saying is they wanted to speak to her, right? >> Right. Oh, well, I actually haven't talked to them yet. I just didn't know. So basically when I ran the juvenile's information, she was coming back as a a runaway. >> Oh, okay. So now she's not a runaway. >> Okay. Just so that way I can get her out if need be. >> So she's in our program. I'm going to send her home with her family. So we run with So, we are responsible for So, we are responsible No, but no, but she's under CYC. >> So, she ages out at 23. >> Yeah. Interesting. Okay. >> So, she's a >> Yeah, that's what I'm saying. >> Yeah, so we're talking about both of them. >> This way, this way, this way. Thank you. Do you have a phone with you? >> No. >> No? Okay. What? That's right. Just don't smoke in here, okay? >> Do I Do I Do you have to close the door? >> I have to, yeah. >> Can I open the window? >> Huh? Yeah, of course you can. >> It turns out both juveniles were in town for a pre-trial, making this latest incident even more troubling. Listen as their housing manager explains the situation. >> They're both in the same program in the same facility. Okay. And so, how did they get here? >> So, they uh She went to pre-trial and they were uh They I dropped them off. >> Okay. >> But, I had no no idea. Because our center Yeah, cuz our center's down the street. So, I took her to pre-trial and they were going to buy uh groceries and they were going to Um so, there's a center that they go to for CYC. It's called the drop-in and then the dreams works or something. So, they go and hang out there, right? So, um they were going to come here to get snacks and go over there. Now, I what they did inside the store, I have no idea. So, then I knew that they were here. So, when she called me, um I was like, "What?" >> Do you um have the information for the pre-trial officer? >> Um no, I don't, but I can get it for you. Now, what what we really want is for her not to get arrested. >> Um okay, that's I mean, it's still a possibility, right? She committed a crime. No. >> Right, right, we understand that. >> And she's on pre-trial. >> Right, right, right. >> So, she's not supposed to be committing crimes, period, much less on pre-trial. >> Right. >> So, I mean, that's out of my hands. I'm going to do what I need to do, and if I'm going to talk to the pre-trial officer, and if we think it's best that she gets revoked from it and goes back to jail, then that's what's going to happen. Um I mean, I'm sure the pre-trial officer and the judge and everyone was very clear as what was expected of her when she was released. And if she's choosing to willingly violate that, that's on her. Okay. >> Yeah. >> Next, the female officer heads back inside to speak with the loss prevention. >> So, um can you just explain to me everything that you saw, observed, and then if I can see footage? >> Yes. So, they came in, they were called out, right? Um they were, you know, we had two females coming in with bags. I started watching them, I right away noticed Amelia, um just from the walk, stuff like that. Um they went and made their way to cosmetics. After cosmetics, Amelia selected some eyelashes and some glue. And then they walked out of cosmetics, went into home lines, and they went into a corner, and they started opening up the packaging. She gave the eyelashes to Amelia, or to, I'm sorry, to Elise. She grabbed the eyelashes, concealed it, and then Amelia got the box and threw it. And then um in that little corner, she concealed the glue. So, when we brought them in here, she said, "I didn't take anything." Um it was all my friend, la la la. When we did the pat down, they had the stuff that we observed them selecting. She was like looking around. Ah, it's her again. She threw the box right there. And then she goes back, Amelia goes back and makes sure that she like stuffs it in the back. Um so, at that point, when they go to the front, I have my partner take over camera, and then that's when I I put the packaging right back at customer service, but I went back to the floor and grabbed it, and it was empty. >> Okay. Um once we get the juvenile criminally trespassed, uh we'll release her back to your custody. We have I'm not saying that So, it's just mandatory anytime a crime is committed, we have to let the ABC know. >> Yeah, yeah, that's fine. >> Um that doesn't necessarily mean she's going to get charged with it by them, but I just have to let them know. But, once we get the criminal trespass released back into your guys' custody, and then we'll um this one obviously is going to take a little bit longer. So, yeah. >> Yeah. >> With the investigation wrapping up, officers explain what comes next for the suspects. >> Okay, ma'am. So, my name is Officer Alicia. I think I already introduced myself. Um obviously, I told you when we were in there that you were detained not free to leave. You're detained in regards to uh we have received information that the security guards from this facility had two subjects detained in regards to shoplifting, and then they were requesting our assistance, okay? Before I talk to you or ask you any questions in regards to that, I'm going to go ahead and read you your rights, okay? You have the right to stop answering at any time. Do you understand each of these rights I've explained to you? Having those rights in mind, are you comfortable talking to me about what happened today? >> I don't know. I'm too scared. >> Okay. So, no? >> It's just cuz last time they told me I would get a lawyer. >> Okay. So, we won't then we'll we'll we'll take that as a no. And then we um I won't ask any questions in regards to what's going on. Um I will be contacting your pretrial officer just to see what our next steps are going to be in regards to you. You are going to be criminally trespassed from the property um per their request. And then we also have the shoplifting portion of it as well, okay? Watch your inside. I can close this. So, you are going to be placed under arrest in regards to the shoplifting and the contributing to the delinquency of a minor, okay? >> No. Please can I talk to my parole please? I won't do anything. God. >> So, in regards to your pre-trial officer, obviously he's not here. I did talk to the supervisor, okay? The supervisor is not putting forth any type of additional criminal charges. He just has to put in a petition to the judge, and the judge will decide what happens, okay? >> No, please don't. Can we talk to him? >> Talk to who? >> The pre-trial officer. >> We can definitely try to give him a call, but that's not going to change the outcome of him today, okay? But I am more than willing to let you speak to him when we get down to the judiciary. >> The first suspect was eventually released to her custodians after receiving a trespass warning. The second suspect, however, faced criminal trespass, felony shoplifting, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Drunk shoplifter ends the night in jail. In our final case, officers apprehend a woman accused of stealing merchandise from a retail store. What happens next begins when officers make contact. >> Hey, I didn't steal anything. >> Turn around. >> I would have No, no, no, I didn't steal anything from him. >> I'm going to take the bag with the dog off. >> Yes. Okay, that's fine. I didn't steal anything, though. >> being detained. >> Okay, but I didn't steal anything from them. >> Okay, well, we'll make that determination. But until then, you're being detained. >> Oh, I I went to go walk out with the thing, and then I got me before I walked out with the beer. I didn't take anything from them. >> Okay, put the dog in the car. >> I have my dog. >> He's got He's got your dog. Your dog's fine. >> I didn't take anything from them. That's my baby. >> Okay, your lighter have a You can have the lighter with you right now. >> All right. >> Good job. >> I didn't take anything. I don't have anything. It's my phone. >> Okay. >> I don't have anything from there. >> All right, just to keep you dry while while we have you detained, we're going to keep you in the back of the car. >> I didn't take anything >> I guess you're not under arrest yet, but you're detained. To keep you dry, we're just going to have you sit in my car. >> Okay, just open my stuff right now and look. >> We got to talk to security first. >> No, no, no, that stuff's there. >> Okay, and once we make that determination >> Uh it all came from Ulta in No. >> Okay. >> Are you kidding me? >> Like I said, you're just detained right now. >> I went to Ulta. You can see it's in Ulta's bag. >> You kick your legs in. Just going to close the door and keep you dry. >> Come on. Please. >> Like I said, you're you're not under arrest yet. >> I didn't steal anything. >> Okay, we got to make we got to >> Okay, then look at the >> make that determination. We're not just going to go through your stuff yet. We're going to talk to security. Where are you security from? >> Macy's. >> Okay. I'm trying to keep you dry for now. Just keep kick your legs in. >> Use security footage. Security footage of what? >> I'm going to call them real quick. Cuz I I got to go. >> Officers are trying to work with her, but it's obvious getting through to her won't be simple. >> I'll put your feet in there. >> Okay, I'm talking to him. >> We're talking to Beth. Put your feet >> Okay, I need someone to watch my dog. >> Your dog is right here. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, it's not going anywhere. Just put your feet in there. >> I'm going to watch my dog. >> watch him through the windows. Come on. >> No, I have to call and have somebody pick her up. Are you guys going to take her? >> We'll take care of that if you could put yourself in the car. >> I'm going to wait because I know I didn't take anything, so this isn't right. >> Ma'am, listen, you're making this more difficult than it is. >> But I didn't take anything. >> that, but at the point right now you're being detained. >> I didn't take Yes, but being detained for what? >> Let's go then. >> For something that I told him he could have back? That's all the best station. For something he I told >> You can sit inside the car. >> For something I told him he could have back. >> Well, if if you'll be fine if that's what it was, so just >> It was something I could have >> relax, wait in the car, and we'll take care of it. Now, go in the car. >> Yeah, I have been admitted to the hospital. >> And he's talking >> Yeah, but he don't need you to talk to them. >> Okay, well >> All right, you want You want us to work with you on getting somebody for the dog? So >> talking about. He said no, because once you guys shut these doors, it's no, no. I know how this works. >> You're being detained. It's not going to >> Detained for what? I didn't take anything. >> Detained >> on what? Uh something that was given back? I wouldn't shoplift, though. >> We investigate. You're making it way more difficult than it has to be. >> Because it was given back, so there's no nothing to There's nothing to look at. >> not how that works. That's not how that works. You can't walk into a store and take something and say, "Hey, I'm going to give it back to you cuz I don't want it anymore." Or they take it back and >> for one, I was walking out, and I forgot it was on the bottom shelf. You guys look at the video. >> That's what we're doing, okay? Therefore, we need you in the car. If you want us to work with you on somebody for the dog, work on work with us in getting in the car. >> do you mean somebody for my dog? You're not just taking my dog to the pound? >> What color What color bag the cosmetics brand? >> Store security says they watched her conceal cosmetics and walk out without paying, but the suspect strongly pushes back against the accusations. >> What cosmetics? >> How old is the dog? >> Dog's nine. >> How long you had him for? >> Nine years. >> You had him for nine years? >> dog that passed away. But I went to the old cuz you guys can't say I took any cosmetics from them. >> So >> not saying you did. The security that was watching you says that you took them. >> I took what? >> Cosmetics. That's what we're going to figure out what >> though? I wasn't at Ulta. You can see I have Ulta bags. The first time thrown back so they can't get anything like that first grade. I'm >> And then do they know what items they were specifically? >> They're what? >> So, what's going on? >> They're They're reviewing the security footage to find out the specific items. >> Okay. And then pressing charges? >> Oh, yeah, they always will. >> So, she's going? So, she's going? I mean Like I said, we need to determine what was actually >> taken from uh Target. >> I mean, there's cosmetics in there, but it's in an Ulta Beauty bag, so that's where >> have like the we need the receipt >> know what was specifically taken. >> We would need the receipt or something with the name. >> they're they're reviewing the security footage now. So the nails. Uh I think you just take it out of control. Um >> Or you let them get call somebody to get it. >> Yeah. Yeah, cuz like I said, that sounds like it's a lot of cosmetic stuff, but >> You don't know what is what. >> Next, officers go inside the store to hear from loss prevention about what they found on camera. >> Hey, how's it going? >> What's up, man? >> Good to see you. >> What's up? >> Somebody called about you being a suspicious person. >> Do you know what she took? >> Uh some makeup. Um >> Does she still have everything? >> Yeah. Okay. >> Yeah. >> Got you. Would you uh >> Um she tried to leave. >> Do you have like a decent photo? >> Yeah. >> You have the items with you, though? >> Uh >> What did she take off with? >> She took the cosmetics. Hello. >> So So these stickers aren't you? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> That looks like something off >> Well, I mean, it There was a lot of them. >> from the website or what? >> Okay. So, none of that. >> Um >> What's that? >> I'd be like, "Hey, I'm over here. Where are you?" >> Listen up. Worst case scenario, would you want your dog to go in the shelter, or would you want somebody to pick him up? It's a simple question. A or B. Would you want him to pick him up? >> somebody to pick her up, but I don't >> Okay. How long Okay, listen. I'm not asking you that, okay? Now, you have somebody that would pick him up in case, right? >> Yeah. >> How long would they take to get here? >> know. I'd have to call him. >> Are they far, you think, usually? >> Huh? >> Would they be able to come here in a short time? >> I have no I I have nerve damage in my arms. I can't feel my hands. >> Okay. We'll take care of that in a second. But, we're trying to figure something out for your dog if that's if you really >> I can't take >> It's okay. I'm not asking you anything about what happened. All I'm asking you is would you want your dog to go somebody you know, or in the shelter? Okay. Do you have somebody we could call in case to pick up your >> I have to call him, but yes. >> We'll call him for you in in case. >> I'd have to unlock my phone. >> Knowing she'll be taken to the station, officers try to help sort out arrangements for her dog. >> All right. So, I'll call animal control now and get them to come. >> Well, here. What What is the phone number for your friend that can come and pick him up at the station? >> We can't answer that, but she's being difficult. Like, she doesn't want to give us any information on this dog. I mean, on this on this person that's going to come and pick up the >> For shoplifting, I don't have the receipt, but they have video of you selling the items and then and then moving them. So, I'm asking you what what is the number for your dog? Okay. There we go. Step out of the vehicle. Step out the vehicle, please. You're not going to be difficult now. I don't know what your arms have to do with anything of Hey, can you uh hold this real quick? That's what I'm doing. And then just step over here to the vehicle. All right, that one's good. I'm not loosening that one. Okay, that one's already as loose as I'm going to let it. Listen, they're going to be uncomfortable, but I will loosen this one. My back is fractured. Like this this hurts. Where's it at? To the lock? Oh, put this one This is one of the cuffs. You got to stick the key in it and then They attempted to have someone pick up the suspect's dog and avoid animal control, but eventually the officers ran out of patience due to her behavior. >> No, my dog is not going to the pound. >> Yes, it is. >> No, she's not. I gave you a number. >> That is incorrect. You don't dictate how this goes. So, that's the wrong attitude to have. >> No, it is not. >> Yes. >> No. >> No, it's right here. Right here. >> She won't. No. >> No, it's it's not. >> Well, I can't pick her up. >> Well, what's the matter with you? >> Can you call again? Can I say bye to my dog, please? >> No. >> What? We're not playing this game. >> Please. >> Oh, I'll have to roll down the windows in a second. >> I have absolutely nothing against her either. >> All right, hey. I'm going to need you to be quiet real quick. I'm going to talk on the radio so they can hear me. >> No. >> Yes. >> No. I have somebody that will pick her up.
