Scammers love to think they're clever until the handcuff shut the conversation down. Here are five cases when cops expose the dumbest scammers ever. Number five, man tries to cash fake check twice. On October 24th, 2024, officers in Champagne, Illinois, responded to a local bank after staff reported a man attempting to cash a fraudulent check. Upon arrival, the officers wasted no time detaining the suspect. >> Hello. >> You, Francisco? All right. You're going to be detained right now. Okay. I'll explain it to you in a second. Okay. This is your phone. Is >> this your phone? >> Yes. >> Do you have any weapons on here? >> Do you mind if I check? >> Okay. I got 7831 to 10. All right. We're going to go out to my car. Okay. [Applause] closer. >> We'll come talk to you in a second. We were He just did the same thing around the corner. So, [Applause] The suspect was after $4,000. But now the only thing left to explain is why he tried it in the first place. All right, Francisco. We're going to go to the backseat of my car. I have some questions for you in a second here. Okay, red. Cool. Um, I want to talk to them first. Um, we can sit here for now. Um, I'm guessing it's going to be the same as that one, but uh, yeah. So, yeah, it's the same person from over there. >> The video over there. >> Yeah, it's the same guy. Um, do you mind just hanging with Okay, thank you. >> With the suspect in custody, the next step is hearing from employees inside the bank about what led to the call. Hello. >> Okay. Did you call or who called? I did. >> Okay. Hi, I'm Officer Jackson, Police Department. Hi, Jeremy. >> So, what happened? >> Um, so, um, he came in just to cash up what was supposed to be a payroll check, right? Um, we have procedures in place to, um, try to do some verification of that kind of stuff before we go ahead and cash stuff like that because of the size of the check. It's like $4,000. >> Okay. So I started by calling the people who issued the check which are our customers Land Heating and Air. >> Okay. >> Um gave them the check number and the information on the check. They said yesterday we issued that check for hundred and something dollars to Carl. That went out in the mail yesterday. So that is not correct. That is not a fraud check. >> Okay. >> Or that is not a real check. Um from there I called my uh regional managers. They said call non-emergency and we just tried to hold tight for a minute while we could get the ID and a copy of the check. said that we just need to get it verified for some higherups and uh that that's it. And you guys showed up. >> What was the amount in that he was trying to cash it for? >> Uh I have it in the office. You'd like to see? >> Yes. And if you have >> if you have a plastic bag um that you can put it in as well. >> If not, I have one. That's fine. >> I'm so sorry. I don't have anything. But this is them. Um this is the the checks there. >> Gotcha. Perfect. Okay. So, if I'm understanding correctly, he comes in, tries to cash this check for $4,864.79. You contact Lance Heating and they're like, "That was supposed to go to Carl and it was not supposed to be that. It was like hundred something dollars." >> That's right. They said they just put it in the mail yesterday. They said for somethingund something bucks. >> Okay. >> Um her name uh I spoke to Alyssa at Lance Heating and Air. >> Okay. Um do you mind if I get your information? >> Feel free. Absolutely. >> What's her last name? And your first name? Jar. And what's your middle? What's your date of birth? >> Fortunately, the bank had strict security measures in place. A necessary safeguard as check fraud continues to rise. Where do you want to use the >> Oh, that's fine. Actually, you can. I mean, here's my ID if that helps. I'm spending time trying to like review account history just to see and the differences between those checks and their real checks are very minor, but they're there. >> Um, I noticed that on their real checks, the phone number is on there, but it was not on there. >> And I noticed >> like one of their normal checks. Um, well, I don't have a I I'm not sure. I know we have people come in frequently enough to cash them, but they're not that large. >> Okay. >> So, um, and we actually have procedures now like if it's over 500 bucks and we don't know you, like you're not a regular person who comes in here, then they've put things in place just to do verifications. And so, and this is the result of that. So, >> what is your position here? Are you the regional manager? >> Branch manager. >> Branch manager. Okay. So yeah, the security features normally I think it says something like the face of this document but not this document. So the wording on the cross is a little bit different and uh but this is in series like this is in sequence for them. >> So um they must maybe they stole the check yesterday and they need to use something that was close to that number so that they could you know get >> what's a good phone number for you Jeremiah? >> Uh Okay. Um, did you talk to anyone at Lands? Uh, specifically at Lands. >> What makes things worse for the suspect is what the background check reveals. This isn't his first time trying to cash a fake check. And now he's in even deeper trouble. >> Okay. And who did you speak to at Carl? >> I didn't not anything Carl. No, they just said they issued a check to Carl. That's the name. That's the real check. That was 48858 was issued to Carl. >> Got yesterday and they put it in the mail yesterday, I think. So, >> okay. All right. Makes sense. I'll give this back to you. >> Thank you. >> Um, he just tried to do that up the road, so he's going to go to jail. Um, >> okay. >> What I'll do is, uh, do you guys have I'm assuming you have cameras in here. >> Yes, we do. >> Okay. I'm going to send you a uh, have you ever dealt with like the Axon community request thing for us? >> I personally have not yet. Um, but I can, you know, whatever you'd like. I'm happy to help. >> Okay. What's a good phone number for or not phone number, sorry, email? >> Um, on my card here. Can I have you take one of my business cards? >> Sure. That way you've got >> that'll work, too. So, what I'll do is I'll send um a link to this and it'll be like a drag and drop thing. If you need to forward it to somebody else, that's fine. I will. >> But what I'd like and I'll outline it in the request is any video um or photos of him in the bank attempting to to cash the check essentially. >> Great. >> Um so, like I said, he's going to go to jail for this cuz he's done it twice now. >> Okay. Um, I'm gonna take this uh and all of his other items, but is there anything else that we haven't talked about that you think might be helpful or maybe we missed? >> Nothing I can think of. I think that pretty well wraps it up. I appreciate how fast you guys got here because this patch wasn't quite sure how to be here and I was like, "Oh, okay." >> Yeah, we were right. We were right up there. >> And then they they told us they're like, "Yeah, we have another one that's just out of view." And I look on there, I'm like, "This is the same guy." So, >> yeah. Yeah. Great. >> All right. Well, thank you for your expediency. Appreciate that. >> Yeah, of course. So, um I'll give you a case number as well. Uh >> yes. Yeah, actually they asked me for that like a case number and your name. Um and you're Jackson. >> Yes. Officer Jackson. >> Thank you. >> I got 73. You go with the case number. Before long, the officers begin checking the suspect's belongings, uncovering evidence that makes the situation even worse. >> Was trying to cash it tried to cash one just up the road for more than $4,000. So, I can take the paper on it. >> Are you sure? >> Yeah. I appreciate you offering, but I got it. Okay. Um, so this is going to be >> two separate reports, >> right? >> We can essentially copy and paste later on. >> Yeah. Um, but fill out any else, right? For jury for jury. I got 78329 OC city last of Wararez John Union Adam Robert Edward Zebra first of Francisco common spelling middle J John beta birth male >> uh that's yours. >> Where did those come from? on top of the hood next to this is this ripple. >> That's his I'm going to just throw all this stuff in the back. >> So, how do you know it's fraud joint? >> Well, they contacted Lance and they said that the numbers on that check aren't correct. I was supposed to go to Carl in the amount of like $100. >> Oh, okay. >> So, does that cost too? >> Um 100 maybe. Maybe not. I'm not sure. I don't think it's a real $100 bill. >> I appreciate willing to take this one. So, wait. >> That's not a problem. And plus, go ahead. >> The officer makes one last attempt to speak with the suspect, but ultimately it's his choice whether to say anything at all. Let's go. I want to talk to you, but before we do that, I'm going to advise you of your rights. Okay? So, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in a court of law or other proceedings. You have the right to the presence of an attorney during any questioning. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you if you wish. Do you understand the rights I've provided them to you? >> Yes. >> Okay. I got 73, Mark, Miranda. Okay. So, what what are you doing today at the banks? >> I want to talk to a lawyer about it. >> Okay, that's fine. So, at this point, you're under arrest for forgery. We're going to go to the jail. Okay. The case wraps up with the suspect charged with forgery and taken into custody. Number four, woman says her employer paid her a fake check. In this next case, once again in Illinois, officers responded to a bank after reports of a woman attempting to cash a fraudulent check. When the authorities arrive, the suspect is quick to defend herself. Listen to what she has to say. >> Yes, I can do that. >> Hi. >> Hi. How are you? >> Here. Happening we show up. >> Oh, okay. So, basically, I was working for a company online and basically um I did the interview and everything. So when I did the interview and everything, they started giving me customers to talk to the people that was online. That was it. That was all. I contact I did my deposit, did it to like a a bank account that I have. It never went through. So I called. I'm like, "Okay, where's my paycheck?" They told me, "Okay, we going to have to send it out." And that's what they did. I don't do fraud or none of that. I'm I'm hurt right now because they basically just >> What's the name of the company? >> It's called um it's >> I got proof on on my phone. I don't do none of this. >> I don't but you know >> I have a job. I work Yes, but this is online company. I don't know if I'm getting fried out of or what. Like that's why I look so I'm >> You got your idea? Yes, I do. >> How long did you work for them? Were you >> a full month? >> A month? >> Yes. >> Thank you. >> And he keep asking me questions. I'm telling him I don't even know. Like >> if something doesn't look right on their end, >> I understand that. But I'm telling him >> federal. So >> they have to wash their end or their >> big trouble, right? Yes. I understand that. I don't do this. calling to see what they want to do. >> The woman insists it was a paycheck from remote work, but now that it's proven fraudulent, the situation has her caught in the middle. >> Okay. What they want to do? >> Yeah. >> It's like I'm getting fraud. Do y'all understand this? Like I No. >> Well, that's why we're here at the incident trying to figure this whole thing out. We're doing preliminary investigation >> to figure out what exactly is going on. >> Okay. >> So, we get a call here. cuz he just said he called them and they said they don't know me. But I'm the I don't know y'all. I'm doing this off internet. The internet can be fraud. I'm like I'm doing this off the internet. >> Well then you would definitely want to investigate it to >> I did. I just told him everything for like your company that you're working for. >> I told him everything. >> No. We're asking you for the company you're working for and you couldn't even tell me the name of the company that you're working for. >> You see where I'm getting with this now? >> Huh? I just told you. I said it's like >> like I'm telling you I I can't I don't know. >> So he's checking into it. >> Okay, that's fine. That's fine >> because maybe it's somebody that's doing this to other people. We need >> That's what I'm saying. And I'm I'm for the like I'm 21 y'all. I work with kids autism. That's my mainly job. This is this was just a extra job that I wanted, you know, to get more income. But I didn't know that I was going to get fried to the point that I'm stuck in this. >> That's why we're doing our part. He's doing his part. Just come out and check it out. >> It comes out to be the truth that it is what it is. >> We probably have to take a report on it or whatever they want done or maybe there's a glitch, something messed up. >> I don't like that. >> So, give us a minute. >> With a check proven to be fake, the woman's best chance is to give officers every detail about where it came from. Well, it's uh the check. There's a there's a problem with the check. Okay. >> Okay. He just said that. Yeah. >> Okay. There's a big problem with it. >> I fried myself. This is why I'm mad right now. I'm not even mad mad, but I'm very upset. Like, I went through this and I didn't know that was fried. >> So, so what we're going to have to do is we're going to have to find out. >> Mhm. If you're saying they sent this to you online, there's a way of tracking this. We're going to find out. Um, of course, you know, we we're going to have to contact whoever issued it, find out what, you know, what they're doing. But, yeah, this has to be investigated. Okay. So, he's going to talk to you, too, in a minute. Um, but right now, we just got to we got to make sure we uh, >> you know, we got to make sure we checking into this How did you get here? >> The bus. >> Okay. You got a rider like with somebody. How are you going to get back? >> Take the bus. >> Okay. But I'll stand with her. Just go ahead and find just get that final word from him. But yeah, it sounds like it's not good. So >> Okay. >> You got anything on you? Shouldn't have got any weapons or anything? >> Keys. Okay. Yeah. Take a peek at it. It's not >> that's fine. Do whatever because it's just I'm I don't I'm so that >> No, I got you. >> Like I'm in a position that people go through and can get theirelves out of and I don't do this. >> Well, like I said, we will get to the bottom of this. We will. We'll find out, you know, exactly what's going on with this. >> It's actually scary. >> It's It's actually scary cuz I gave them my information. >> The people that gave you that? >> Yes. >> Okay. I don't That's why I said this is an online thing. Like >> But you work for them, right? >> For a month. Like I just >> doing this for a month. >> So they mail you the check? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> With the situation in the bank's hands for now. Officers wait to see what decision will be made. >> Like I said, they're going they're getting information. It takes a few few minutes. He's getting all his information, but yeah, we're going to um we'll get this resolved. You know, everybody's got, you know, bosses. So, you know, he's got to make sure he's, you know, checking and, you know, we it's a process. Like I said, they have a protocol. So, we'll uh I'll let you know what's going on in a second here. >> Telling me about >> Yes. >> where they gave you a bogus, you know what I'm saying? >> Would you ever have any other situations like that? >> What? >> Where you got a bogus, somebody gave you a bogus check? >> Not like this. Okay. It was like uh he sent the picture and basically I took a picture and dep tried deposit. He was like you can deposit it to your He's a white dude too. >> Okay. So it's the second time for you that you've had this happen. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> That's why I'm like like >> you said you work for them a month, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Cuz I that was I was trying to get another income. >> Okay. But my actual job of me going in is I work with autism kids. >> You've been doing that for uh a month. >> I've been doing that. What? This >> the aut You say you work with autistic kids? >> I've been doing that since March. >> Okay. >> Yep. Doing that since March. >> Okay. >> I love it. That's why >> Well, yeah. That's a good thing to uh anytime you can work with the kids and help them out, it's always a good thing. Yeah. >> But I switched it >> to come out here to do it because >> the job. >> So you got two jobs then, huh? >> Supposed to be. >> Okay. >> Supposed to be. >> Okay. >> Well, like I said, it it'll all get worked out. like whatever's going on with this, they they'll look into it. It'll get worked out. >> It has to because you know if somebody's out here putting those type of check types of checks out. Yeah. >> Officers push for clarification, pointing to clear signs that something isn't adding up on the check. >> We definitely can't let that fly. You know, got to look and make sure >> you say you you say you have a payub. >> I tried to show him the payub. >> Okay. And then you're >> I don't I don't like when people >> I don't like that. >> Well, maybe maybe the company you did. They send you a pay. >> Yes, they send me whatever they >> This is for It's for >> They can't do nothing about it. Like I'm the one who getting fraud here. Like I'm the one who gave them my information and I I'm >> They got my name. >> Can you call your boss, your supervisor? >> No. I talked to one person >> and I was on an individ I'm telling you this was on the internet. This is on internet. >> I can say if it was in person of course this is on the internet. >> I did a zoom call with them and everything. >> Okay. All right. And you never called like when you when you got this check. This is your first check, right? >> Mhm. >> Okay. And what's your supervisor's who would be your supervisor? What's his name? >> I don't know his name. Who do you work for? Like like who do you report to? >> Um it's >> Do you see what I'm saying? Like if you if you work somewhere, you got to have somebody >> somebody who I report to, right? >> Yeah. And it's some dude I don't know his name. >> You don't know his name. >> I know that. I don't know. >> Too like that. >> It's time slips. >> Okay. Okay. >> He's making a copy of it. >> The final call is made. The woman will be charged for trying to cash a fake check regardless of her explanation. >> We are going to put you under arrest. Um, we are >> what? >> Yeah. >> For what? >> They'll look into it. >> We're just going to look into it further. >> Scary, y'all. This is scary. I'm getting robbed myself. >> Okay. I'm going to look into it. I'm going to tell you to get it out squared away. Okay. >> Oh my god. Okay. You don't have to do it to cut it. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> I'm getting >> And I know why. >> All right. >> Yeah, that's fine. That's fine. Thank you. >> Cuz you still may tell me what what what's going on. Like >> I mean our background department will work it out. Our department um you submit all the information, all the reporting information. right now. I don't know. You can open it up if you want to. You can search around the pockets. >> So, our fire department will work. >> Get where we need to get. >> No, I'm getting fried. Like, this is a old line. So, it's probably anybody can whoever I was talking to. Anybody that could be anybody who gave me the check or anything. That's why I'm saying like I don't do this. And then I heard you say that you sent a a money that was $27 in my account. >> I heard you say that. >> Yeah. We're just looking at We have to look >> trans. Okay. And I am just going to search you before we put you into our vehicle. >> Just make sure you have no weapons. >> Yeah. We're going to do this in front of us. Watch her. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Okay. So, I'm just walk in the back of it. Okay. >> Is she got a good handle on her? >> I didn't let radio know yet cuz >> Yeah. Yeah. I got you. I know you. I got you. Yeah. No problem. >> Think I'm good. I'm just going to reach over you. >> Ultimately, she's booked on a fraud charge. But that's not all. Records reveal a prior case from November 2023 when she was caught stealing while working at the registers at a local Walmart. Number three, scammer gets caught red-handed by police officers. It's May 18th, 2022 when police are called to a region's bank for a check fraud report. Watch how things unfold as they question the man involved. >> What's most favorite? >> I really couldn't tell you that. So, we spoke to the business owner. He said that he's had stolen jacks. He did not break his jack. >> Do me a favor. Put your hands on your back. >> 25 Bravo, one >> one black male detained. Let's go over here. >> 152. Have a seat right here, please. >> Thank you. You have the check and everything. >> Yeah, I have. >> Okay, just hold on to that. I got to get in contact with it. >> 103 miles 16. >> What was the uh >> what's the dollar amount? >> I'm sorry. >> Was it dollar amount? >> 950. >> Yeah, we have to keep the original here. I can make a copy for you, but it's not You guys will get it back. I got a detective going to be in rout needs to see it. >> Yeah, that's absolutely fine. >> So, how did you go come about that check? >> Uh, guy gave it to me and just told me to just let me use your ID and I just took it. >> You know the person who gave it to you? >> Yeah. You just be down by the store down by McDonald's on Montgomery. The lady that came to me earlier, can she come back? >> Yeah. >> Almost $1,000 was on the line, and now officers are determined to uncover the story behind the stolen check. >> Um, if at all possible, could you get your ID, her ID, telephone numbers for both? And as far as address, I'm using here for both of y'all. >> Yeah, that's fine. >> Um, cuz they're going to want all that information when they get here and talk. >> Okay. I don't mind giving mine. I'm used to doing that, but I don't know if she's going to be >> She's going to have to. She was the one that >> I called it in. So, >> it doesn't matter. She was the one. >> Okay. All right. Well, good. >> Okay. Thank you. >> No problem. This is him. Check's $950. Um, they have the check. I'm about to call Sergeant for you right quick. I didn't have my phone. >> Okay. >> Um, the guy just came up to me as me. He say he ain't have his ID ID with him and the asked me did I have ID and gave me a check you know and I just he put my seat sign the check >> just bought it in here that's all I did >> you don't know this guy >> well I seen him before he was up at the >> store you had one >> and he say you know you cast a check for me you know you let me use your ID if you cast your check for me I'll give 100 bucks. >> So he gave you 100 bucks in cash? >> No, he No, he said he was going to give me 100 bucks for cash check because he didn't have his ID. >> And how much was the check? >> No, I think 950 I believe >> $950. >> Yes, ma'am. >> $950. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. >> And if you were going to cash it, where were you going to meet him at? >> Back at pay for that store. >> That's kind next to Tri City. Next to Char City right there. Okay. >> Yeah, because I use another guy's bike ride up here. You know what I mean? But he said he's going to give me 100 bucks for doing it. Just using my ID. So, I didn't know I'm going to get in trouble because the check it didn't have no signature or nothing on it. He just used my name. That's it. Yeah. Yeah. I didn't sign it or anything, you know. I just brought it up here. The man claims he was only asked to cash the check in exchange for a cut of the money, but when questioned further, it's clear he knows little about the people behind the scam. >> Just trying to cash it. >> What's his name? >> Call him DC. >> DC. >> Do you say where he staying at? >> No, I don't know where he stays at. You know, like I said, he comes up to the store all the time. And I know he work I know he work I know he works at at at a restaurant >> at Michaels up there next to um >> that laundromat up uh up up from the post office up there at Michaels that restaurant. I know he used to be a chef there, you know. So I'm thinking that he's good. >> Where? West. >> No m. Yes, ma'am. Just west side. East side. West side. Yes, ma'am. >> Oh, west. >> Yes, ma'am. Oh, Montgomery Montgomery. >> So, Montgomery, >> it's Michael's. I think it's Michael's restaurant. I know he worked there. >> I know he worked there, but you know, I thank his thought since he came to me with the check and he said he have his ID and just use my name, >> you know. Yeah. But I think he said, I'll give you $100, man, if you take this to the bank and cash it for me, you know. Yeah, I am. >> So, you stay at >> B Street? >> Well, I was I was there, but no, I'm homeless now. >> Okay. Stay for you. You don't have anything on you I need about Okay. >> I'm sorry. You in a predicament, man. >> Can't be trusting folks like that if it ain't casting. You know what I mean? But can't be trusting folks like that. Mastermind or not, he's still facing charges. The officers press for clarity one last time before heading to booking. He >> has no spray in that. >> That's what >> nozzle spray. >> Okay. You already checking. >> I checking. I thought I got all his stuff in. >> Appreciate it. Now, I'm going ask you a simple question. Who would you meet? And be be honest with me. >> Who is it? >> DC. The guy that gave me the check name. DC. That's all. >> That's all you know him. That's all you know about. Yes, sir. >> He's supposed to meet you over at McDonald's. >> No, he's over at the shop at Tai City. Over at Tai City. >> Where's Star T City at? >> Right there on Montgomery from McDonald's and Sh convenience store. >> So, how'd you get over here? >> I bicycles. >> Okay. >> So, where your bicycle at now? >> Right. >> He said DC apparently works at Michael. Yeah, that's all that's the only thing I know about. >> Okay, up this way. Yes, >> you going to be in route for during the first and I don't know if you need help with anything. >> I can give her the CRN card for you. >> Yeah, that'll work. I got to pull a um >> Hey, how you doing? This is Officer Jones with the Savannah Police Department. How are you? >> Fine. How are you? >> Uh you got a call from Regent's Bank earlier. Yes, I do. >> Uh, I just need your information for my report cuz he the gentleman got locked up and I'm having to do a report for it. >> Now in contact with a business owner, the officer begins asking questions about how the stolen check got into circulation. >> How about how many checks did you have stolen? >> About how many what? >> How many checks did you have stolen? >> Well, apparently, I'll tell you, I noticed that I couldn't find that particular check number. >> Uhhuh. >> Not too long ago. You know, this is a business account. >> I got you. >> And there are a few I we have a payroll company that issues, you know, checks or does direct deposits and I have a few employees that, you know, don't, you know, don't have direct deposit and I write them checks. So, that's one aspect of it. Mhm. >> And then there's, you know, we have we have an alcohol, we have a wine and beer beer license, and we have to write checks directly to those companies because they can't, you know, that's legally the way they have to operate. >> Mhm. >> So, I write checks to them, you know, hand checks, >> right? >> So, those are those are mostly the checks I write, but I did notice that particular check number >> missing when I was writing some checks. I can't remember >> how long ago, but not more than maybe two weeks ago. >> Mhm. And and so somehow that check I think it was 151. >> Yes. >> Was was uh got in the wrong hands. >> Yes, it did. >> I'm not sure how, you know. >> Yeah. >> If that if that helps. >> It it does. I mean, the gentleman that had it is now um having a free vacation stay by the Chattam County Detention Center. >> Okay. Uh now this gentleman, what else can you tell me about him that you know legally and >> uh well from what he said he received the check from another individual. >> Um of course they gave some type of street name for the individual and expressed that the person was going to give him $100 if he cash the check. >> The individual was homeless that had it. >> The individual what? >> The individual that had the check was homeless. The man can't confirm how the check ended up in the wrong hands, but he does share his suspicion about who might be behind it. >> Oh, homeless. Okay. Now, we have I I don't want to really I don't want to, you know, I don't want to name somebody as a person that did it cuz I I really don't know. But we had we had a lot of homeless people hanging around >> the uh restaurant for quite some time. Some of them knew each other. >> Mh. And then we had one individual who uh did dishwashing for us that at one point I you know I had to write him a check because you know he didn't have direct deposit but then he said he could cancel the check and I mean it's only possible I I want to underscore only possible that at one point the check that I miss was missing might have got into an envelope for payment to you one of these individuals. But >> I What can I do to help? I mean, >> uh, you you you've done enough, sir. I just needed that information. >> All right. And then the bank called me today and I I have to go somewhere tomorrow morning till sometime after 12:00 and I'm going to go back into the bank tomorrow. So, if you want to call you when I get there, if you need any kind of >> I didn't need any other information, which you told me is more than enough to put in this report. Like I said, the uh individual that had it was arrested. >> Okay. All right. Well, call me if you need anything else. Okay. >> Ultimately, the man's explanation doesn't change the outcome and he was charged with forgery and counterfeiting. Number two, woman gets caught depositing fake check and tries to play innocent. This case unfolds on March 21st, 2024 in Florida, where officers are called to a bank for suspected check fraud. The woman involved is just 20 years old. Here's what the staff tell the police when they arrive. >> Deposit in her account. And that's what I did for her. And then she said that she that maybe it would have that she maybe wanted to do it in the now card. And then she then I told her that if it's in the check account, she can transfer it to the now card if she would like >> once it clears. Right. Yeah. Correct. >> Mhm. So, >> and then she said that's fine and she just left. >> Okay. And is that her right over there? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Did when she came in here today, did she work with you at all today or what was >> No, I haven't seen her since then. >> Okay. You just came here yesterday, just gave you the check. It seemed to clear because the account numbers and everything matched up. Yeah. Um, no problem yesterday at all. Correct. Okay. All right. I appreciate it, man. Thank you very much. >> Of course. >> You want to jump off the phone real quick? I just need to talk to you about what's going on here. So, what >> Hold on real quick. >> What's happening here today? What like what happened yesterday and what's going on today with your son or now card? >> My now card. I I just came up here today cuz I have money on my I transfer money on my now card and I asked if it's throw away if I can take it take the money off my now card. >> Gotcha. So you're trying to transfer it back into your checking or just cash? >> I I can't turn I can't transfer into my checking. That's why I was asking can I take it out in cash? >> How much money did was this yesterday you transferred money into it >> in what? >> Into your account to Yeah. >> In my now card. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Okay. How much money was it >> in my now car? It's two two vans in my now card. >> What is that? >> It's two vans in my now. >> Two. Okay. Two. Okay. How much was on it this morning? >> This morning? >> Yeah. >> Well, my now card. >> Mhm. >> It was just I can tell you it's still on my >> figure out which one which one does my screen is like this. >> Oh, okay. I just have to redo something. Okay. So, just focus up here if you can. The officer now follows procedure, advising the suspect of her rights before digging into the details of the alleged crime. >> You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can or will be used against you in the court of law. You have the right to right to talk to a lawyer or have him or her present with you while you're being questioned. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent you. You can decide at any time to exercise these rights, not answer any of my questions or make any statements. Do you understand each of these rights as I've read them to you? >> Having these rights in mind, do you wish to speak with me? >> What's that? I need a yes or no. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, yesterday I'm being arrested. >> No, you're not being arrested. >> Oh, I'm not I don't know. >> This is for me to ask you certain questions. I have to read that to you just so you're aware of your rights. Okay. You're not being >> arrested. That's why I'm honest. >> Okay. No, you're not being arrested. So, >> when did you come in the bank? You came in the bank yesterday, correct? Tell me about that. >> I'm be honest cuz I'm honest. Came in here and I spoke to him. >> That man right over there? >> Yeah. I made a deposit. I mean, yeah, I made a deposit to come on my reg account. >> Gotcha. >> It was like five like five bands. >> Okay. >> And that was it. That's all I did. >> Okay. And was it a Was it a check or cash? >> It was a check. >> Okay. What was the check? >> It was like a settlement loan check. >> A settlement loan check. Did What? Who did the check come from? >> It I had It just came from a It was a settlement loan. I had got it. >> A settlement loan like What do you mean by settlement? like you were in an accident or you sued someone civily. >> Yeah, like that I guess. >> Okay. Did the check come from a law firm? >> Cuz normally with settlements will come from a law law firm or that certain company. Did you do you remember who the check was from? >> No. >> How did you come about getting the check? >> Okay. So, >> I don't know. Okay. Cuz I I can't lie. So, I'm going be honest. I don't know if I'm going get somebody in trouble or not. >> Okay. >> So, it's like I got it from somebody. >> You got what? From somebody to check. >> Yeah. >> Who did you get it from? >> Um I don't know his name. I just know his Facebook name. >> You know his Facebook name? >> Yes. >> It seems likely the woman has fallen into a familiar pattern of fraud. Scammers often recruit people online to cash checks, offering payment or illegal incentives in return. The ones pulling the strings keep their identities hidden, making it nearly impossible for authorities to trace them back. >> Tana, >> and why did why would he be giving you a check? >> He he had told me that >> he had a check that he wanted me to deposit. >> Okay. >> But I didn't think it was I just thought it was just a regular check. I didn't think of it. >> So, why would he want you to deposit? >> I don't know. I don't know. He >> And you don't know this guy. Did you meet with him in person? No, I met with him on Facebook. But in person? Yeah. >> Oh, in person. Where did you meet with him in person at? >> Yesterday. Over there. >> Over there. Where? Like at CVS or >> like over there? >> Gotcha. So, just right next door. Okay. And that was yesterday around what time? >> Like, >> so before you came to the bank? >> Yeah. >> And what's his Facebook name? >> It's real. >> Are you able to pull it up? >> Let me try to but I'm not around. I hope my phone be doing it. Oh my god. >> Okay. So, >> you said his name was what? >> It's Fredo Santana. >> F R It's F R E D O Santana. >> Fredo Santana. >> Yeah. >> Let me start my phone. >> That's fine. Just what did he look like? >> He got tattoos all over. >> White male, black male, >> black male. He But he's not black. He's like >> like lightkinned. >> Yeah, like caramel. >> Okay. He had tattoos >> all in his neck. >> Mhm. >> In his body. >> Um >> like on his arms like me. Full sleeves or >> Yeah. >> Um the car he was in I don't know if it was a it looked like a Charger but it's it's not a Charger. >> What color was it? >> Like like beige type color >> kind of like >> we're trying to find something. >> So kind of like a tan beige color. Okay. >> You said it looked like a charger. >> It looked like a charger but I don't know. I don't know if charge or not. I'm trying to see. >> Yeah, just work on that. >> According to her, the man drove her to the bank but never shared any personal details. From here, the officer digs deeper trying to learn how she got pulled into the scheme. >> So, you meet with him and then what happens? >> He told me to um he said I can deposit come here and deposit a check. So, when I came here, I deposited and then he was telling me that People telling me to check my account, but they said it was pending. >> It said it was what? >> It said it was pending. Check my account. Yeah, pending. >> And that's all I could do until the next morning. >> Now, what was the agreement with him? >> He wanted to um he wanted to get have I don't know if he was trying to get or he was trying to see if he wanted to take all of it, but we didn't have we didn't discuss it cuz he wanted to discuss it. So, prior to meeting him with meeting with him over there, what was the conversation? How do you how did you get involved with this guy? Have you known him for a while or? >> No, I just known him by Facebook. >> Facebook. >> Just randomly text you. >> How long ago was that? >> Like last week. >> Last week. Yeah. >> And what what did the conversation consist of? He was saying that um he want can I deposit a check and he asked me did I have a bank and I said I have readings and then he said okay that's good and then he asked cuz he um he was asking for my address and my name >> and then like he wanted to meet up yesterday he told me we met up over here then he wanted me to come in here and deposit the check and I went >> okay >> and there was no agreement As far as >> he didn't want to discuss it over the phone. He kept saying he wanted >> then you have. Have you seen him yet today? >> Okay. Now, has any of that money from your account gone anywhere else? >> Um, no. I mean, just my bank account. That's it. >> Okay. Nothing worth spending the money. No cash app transactions. >> No. >> No. Okay. >> And do you have a phone? You don't have a phone number for this guy. You only have his Facebook. >> I only have his I mean I think >> Are you able to get into those messages? [Music] Yeah, you work on that and I'll get right back with you. >> It doesn't take long for officers to discover a withdrawal was made from the account, leaving them to wonder if the mastermind has already left the female suspect to face the consequences alone. >> Yeah. Okay, Miss Wilson. So, >> now in your records there, there's $2,600 taken from that 5,000. >> Correct. >> Okay. What? There's $2,600 that $5,316.79 you deposited today. $2,600 was removed from that account. His >> What if he What if he have my log? What if I gave him my login? >> Did you? >> Yeah. Over the phone? >> Cuz I I didn't know what he was going to do. >> Okay. So, you don't know this guy at all? >> No, I just know him from Facebook. >> You're saying he contacted you to get you to deposit a check and there was no agreement. He wasn't agreeing to give you >> He didn't want to agree. He went a person out. >> Okay. Did was there some sort of an unspoken understanding that if you cashed this, you were going to benefit from it? >> Yes. >> Was so you were going to get money from this? >> That's what he told us. >> So the check Do you remember where the check came from? Not from him, but do you remember seeing where the check >> was addressed from? >> He can't he can't see. >> No, he can't. I'm just asking you. >> Oh, look. It was just for nothing. >> Okay. Were you aware the check was fraudulent? >> He just he told me if he told me it was settlement loan. >> I'm sorry, what? >> He told me it was a sell. >> It was what? >> A settlement loan. >> A settlement loan check. >> Okay. Okay. Well, the issue that we're running into here, right, that's a fraudulent check. >> And you cashed a fraudulent check, >> which is illegal. Okay. So, that's where we're at right now. So, if you can give me any information that maybe you're not giving me that help yourself out and maybe more information on this guy, >> unless you don't have any information on this guy. >> All I know is his Facebook name. I promise you. All I know is his Facebook name >> is at Fredo Santana. Correct. >> Fredo Santana. My phone just went dead. He was calling my number, but I >> And it's just through Facebook audio. You don't have his actual number. >> His actual number. I don't know. Somebody was calling me twice today after he called me, but my phone is dead. The officers continue pressing hoping to learn more about who recruited her into this fraudulent operation. >> But if I have I can't prove that number, but I don't have the charge. But that is his Facebook name and it's a picture of him. He's standing in front of a civil car with a white shirt on with >> and he's you don't know an address for him or anything, but his Facebook picture is he's standing You're saying he's standing in front of a car, >> a silver car >> and he's a light-skinned >> Yes. >> black male. >> Yes. >> What kind of hair did he have? >> It was short cut. >> Short colorized. Um so many >> you said he had neck tattoos, arm tattoos. >> He was he was kind of chubby. About how about how tall do you think he was? >> He didn't get out the car. >> He didn't get out the car. Okay. Was there anybody else in the car with him? >> No. >> And what time? >> I don't know if they can pull up on the camera. >> It was definitely It was over >> He was parked >> at CVS and not across the street. >> Yeah, he was parked right here >> like on this side of CVS. Correct. You was in CVS park late. >> Okay. >> And you said that was around what time? >> I got here around like 11:30. >> That was yesterday though, right? >> It was like 11. >> And you were there? Were you there before he was? >> No, he was there. >> Okay. Did you pull up next to him? >> You didn't have a car? >> Do you have a car here today? >> No. >> Oh, okay. >> So, around 11:40 yesterday in a CV parking lot. So, light-skinned black male, short hair, brown eyes, neck tattoos, any face tattoos? >> No. >> And you saw tattoos on his arms? Both arms or just one arm? >> I know he got tattoo on the arm of his Facebook. >> Oh, from his Facebook. Okay. >> But he had on a jacket. >> Okay. And you said he was uh kind of chubbier. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> My my boyfriend up here cuz he's trying to see if I'm arrested or not. He can look cute Facebook name up and he can show you anything. >> Unfortunately for her, even if she claimed she was misled, she still chose to take part in a fraudulent transaction for promised money. Now she's headed to the station. >> Go ahead. You're mine. down. >> Not yet. >> Put your hands together. What am I doing? >> Yeah. >> You got anything in there? >> Pocket your iPhone 15. >> Not yet. >> Can you just grab those papers for me? Cardinal. Appreciate it. Now, you don't have anything else on your person. Anything tucked away your pockets or anything? Okay. >> Well, like I explained to you, it's the bad check that you passed and put into your account. I'm just going to check your pockets here real quick. You don't have any pockets, right? Okay. Go ahead and jump in here. You have nothing in your hair there. You mind if I just take that off real fast? Okay. Go ahead and jump in there. With the suspect detained, the next step is questioning her companion who was lingering near the bank during the incident. >> You have any idea like you know I mean cashing a check, right? >> That's all that's all that I was aware of. >> Okay. You don't know anything about where she's getting this check or you know cuz the big thing is I mean like kind of sounds like she's doing somebody's dirty work, right? as hell. I mean, um, it sucks to have her take the fall, right? I was just curious if you had any knowledge cuz I mean, honestly, we like to get the people actually put her up to it and the one who's actually gaining from it, you know. Um, but she's got you guys have kids together or >> she got she's got kids. Yeah, she's got two kids. You know, times are tough. I mean, I hate I mean, we'll talk to her. I mean, she's been cooperative, but I was just curious if you had any stuff. I know it's kind of stupid to ask, but there's no way she can come home. >> She can come home. She's got to get booked through. I mean, it's it's a financial fonts. It's nonviolent. They don't generally like to hang on to people for stuff like this, but she's got to get booked through. I mean, for real, like the the bonds generally aren't set very high. You go through a bondsman, a couple hundred, you scrape it together, you can get her home. >> In the end, the woman was charged with uttering forge checks. Number one, woman with a fake ID gets surprised by the police. Our final case takes us to Florida on July 6th, 2024, where bank staff flagged a woman attempting to withdraw cash with a questionable ID. Here's what happened when officers arrived. >> Thank you. general. >> Come on over and have a seat. Right here. [Music] >> What car you driving? >> Um, I came in an Uber. >> Came in an Uber. Okay. >> Yeah. I'm on a work trip. >> You want a work trip? >> Yeah. >> Hey, I'm thankful with the job. Thanks. I haven't spoken to anybody yet. I just stay 10. That's her phone there. She was texting on it. She had to put it down. >> This is the only ID that you have. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> That's what I'm saying. What's going on? I'm >> just trying to figure that out. We got to call like like I said right now completing investigation. Doesn't mean anything's going to happen. We just got to figure out we got to call. So, we got to talk to them to see what's going on. Okay. >> Oh, okay. I'm like I'm just a little confused cuz they're on a work trip and I'm like Oh, >> okay. >> Hey, I don't want to put her information all out since it's kind of private. >> Who was the teller that was speaking with her? >> Me. >> Okay. >> Yeah, I helped her. >> I almost So, >> yeah. >> Um, sorry if you don't mind. >> Yeah, you're good. So, basically, um, she just walked up. Um, she was a little bit nervous. I can kind of tell. Is >> that right? All right. >> I'm checking out the shoes, man. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> What's up, bro? >> Um, we've had her trying to do this multiple times. >> Two days ago or a day ago, she came in doing a cashier for 30,000 >> with a newer teller that was here. So she processed it for her, but this time she was trying to do one for three or five, like whatever she could get. >> One of the IDs that was captured out from another branch yesterday. >> Oh, we're going to be able to mention it. >> Employees reveal she already succeeded in a similar scheme before, but now the officers are here and things might not go her way. >> So I think she's losing multiple IDs. >> Fake IDs. >> Fake IDs. Yeah. The other one I think was like forget what state it was, but it like looks really fake. Yeah. >> Oh, yeah. That's your phone. Yeah. Okay. >> I can't have it. >> No. No. >> Oh, okay. >> Not while we conducted. We don't. Yeah. Yeah. But just >> Do you know how much longer it's going to take? I mean, I don't know what the heck is going on. >> I'm sure they're invest they're investigating a transaction that they deem might might not might be illegal. >> That's all I That's all we know. We just got here. >> But I mean illegal. >> I don't I don't mean we got dispatch. We got We're here. That's all. We weren't We weren't here obviously. >> I don't obviously like >> Yeah, I don't I don't I don't know any I don't know anything. So, I'm I'm >> Yeah, >> we got dispatched. So, >> did you you this is this your bank? >> No. Well, I'm from out of state. So, my bank is from out of state and they told me that I can come over here and do like a cash advance just because I don't like to do they take out a lot of cash to travel from state to state. >> Okay. So, I mean, yesterday I was here and I did it just fine. And then now >> Yeah. Who do you bank with? >> I bank with the Redwood. >> Oh, I know. >> Yeah. No, no, no. Cuz it's not from here. >> I mean, what what state you did that? >> Um, I opened it in California cuz I lived in California at one point. Right now, I'm living in New Mexico. >> Okay. Okay. >> Yeah. >> Use Use your finger. >> Yeah, I'm about to. >> Oh, there you go. and try to get an first. See if it's either. >> Yeah, let's try to work with one. >> After reviewing the ID that the suspect provided, the officers confront her and begin pressing for answers about her identity. >> All right. >> What's your name again? >> Okay. >> So, police officers, right? We try to um identify everyone that we come in contact with and stuff like that. So, I'm running your information right now. Right now, I'm having a little hard time finding your information. Could be because it's at Mexico. Possibly could be the reason why. Um, we have a fingerprint scanner that can do that. It would be expedite this, get you out of here much faster. Good with doing that, >> I guess. >> So, we're just going to grab them real quick. Okay. >> Okay. Can I have my phone? >> No. >> Just just until we're >> So, so listen, sweetheart, you're we're doing we're conducting criminal investigation right now. So, right now, you are detained and you cannot use your phone. Okay? And I'm going to say this to you as well. If you lie about your identity, you're going to go to jail. >> Okay? >> You understand me? I'm going to be straight up with you. So, don't play this game back and forth with us. All right? If we give you, we're going to I'm going to have you give him your information. If at any point you lie about it, which we're going to find out cuz we're going to scan you, >> you're going to go to jail, >> right? >> It's as simple as that. There's no other way around it. >> We understood. >> That warning seems to be enough. And the suspect decides the truth is safer than digging herself in deeper. >> This ID that you hand me is >> No, it's not. Miss Nashi? >> No. >> What is your real name? >> My name is Tabitha. >> Tabitha. >> And your last name? >> So, what's going on? >> I was just doing this because I'm in like financial stance and that's the only reason why I did it. It wasn't like something that I wanted to do and here I am. >> You're a financial. What What gave you the idea to even do this? >> Somebody made it sound so sweet like just hearing it from other people and just And I was just like, maybe I'll just take a risk cuz it's something that I've never done. I mean, I don't do anything like this. I don't ever get in trouble. I've never been in trouble. So, it's like, >> you know, you follow the wrong footsteps and here I am. >> Who who told you to do that? >> Just people like I've heard people like doing it. I've seen people doing it. And like >> where like how do you how do you see people cuz I'm trying to say I've never seen anyone do this. So that's why I'm trying to like figure out where are you where are you seeing people do this? Like what I'm saying like I've seen it like movies, you know, those are the type of things. So like >> how many times how many times have you done this? >> This is my first time. I'm saying this is like my first time. This is my first time and here I am like >> So where are you getting your >> It was given to me. >> It was given to me from a person. I don't even know him. >> Where did you find him? >> I didn't find him. It was just like from a person like and then they went to that person and then it was just like they gave it to me. >> So I understand it may be that you're not trying to like throw something under the bus, but like I said, at the end of the day, we're talking to you. We're not talking to these other people. We're talking to you. And this story is not making any sense. >> This person didn't just walk to your house and say, "Hey, >> here's this credit card. do this at the bank cuz you need some extra cash. There had to have been something set in motion. >> No, no. Literally, that's how it was. And I >> Someone just walked to your house. >> No, no, no. >> Unfortunately, like so many others caught in this scam, she can't give the officers any useful information about who's really behind it. >> The person I met them one time, okay, one time and one time only. And then he was like, "We can do this." >> And then it was just like that. And then it went super fast. And then I came today and this is where I'm at. And I promise you, >> I promise you I've never been in trouble. I've never done this before. This is my first time. And I'm like, that's >> this is your first time. Okay. So, listen. >> I'm very big on respect. You tell me the truth. I tell you the truth. Correct. >> You're saying this is your first time. They have you using this card yesterday to get another cash advance yesterday. So, this is obviously not your first time. >> Yesterday I came. That's why I told the other officer I came yesterday cuz I was coming to get the cash. Mhm. >> And then this is my second time here to date because they told me that I could do it. >> That was it. And I was like, "Okay, well, >> and you're claiming someone just randomly came up to you, gave you this ID, this credit card, and said, "Hey, guess that makes no sense. >> Where's your car? Where's your Honda? >> My car? >> Yeah. Where's your Honda? And >> it's not here. >> Are you sure? >> I'm positive my car is not here. You don't see it?" >> I I understand that. Okay. Somebody was in it. >> No. No. Nobody's in it. >> Where do you stay at? Yes. I stay in in Varico. >> Where? >> Varo. >> Where is that? >> Val Rico. >> Val Rico. >> And you're coming all the way to Orlando. >> Yeah. >> This is the closest Fair Winds to you. >> Listen. So, you drove an hour and 20 minutes to come to Orlando for this. So, here's what's going to happen. And I'm going to I'm not playing games with you right now. You're going to jail. >> I'm sorry. >> You're going to jail. >> Please. >> No, no, no. I'm telling you now. You're going to jail. >> Okay. So, that's going to happen. So, here's >> Take me to jail. I'm telling you if I Good for me. >> All right. So, here's what's going to happen. You're going to jail. >> He's taking >> She's already defrauding the name keeper. I'll get you though. >> Yeah. Okay. So, listen. Stop talking to me. You're going to jail. >> Even after being caught and refusing to give up any information about her accomplice. She still acts as if this will end in her favor. The officers, however, have had enough. >> The lady's working. I'm going to >> Why are you going to jail? >> Listen. >> Crimes have been committed. >> Listen. Listen, >> get on your phone and give us this number of this person has done this. Number one, okay? Cuz I'll tell you right now, you will go to jail for solely for everything you have committed. >> Okay? >> Okay. I don't want to hear I don't know who he is. I don't want to hear he's a I just met him yesterday. I don't want to hear he's a friend from overseas. I don't want to hear it. I've been doing this 21 years and I've been doing this actual crime stuff and stop. Sit down for a minute now, Olive. Let me let me finish >> and then we can go. I've been doing this for a long time and I've also been a detective doing this. So, you can stop the whole >> stop and when I'm done talking then I'll let you speak. >> If you continue to play the I don't know game. I'm telling you right now we're done talking because let me finish talking >> so you understand very clearly what I'm saying. >> But I want to tell you that I listen. >> Listen to me. If the I don't know thing continues and I don't have numbers to people and I don't know if that continues. We're going we're done talking. You're going to go to jail for what we have. >> Okay. cuz you're going that's it. And then we're not even going to start. We're not even going to look at this anymore. >> Okay? I don't want to go to jail because I promise you I'll give you a >> What I'm telling you is I don't want to get out of I've been doing this too long. I don't know. >> We're very clear on this. You're not going to go through your phone. If you would allow us to go through your phone and you want to get some numbers for him to take, then we will investigate this further. Okay. But other than that, you'll take the whole app and we're done. >> No, I don't want to. >> No, Valerie. >> But you're not you're not giving us any information. >> Okay. But like, can I get my phone to give you >> what? What do you What do you want to show us on your phone? >> You want a number, right? I'm trying to give you >> What's their name? How did you meet them? >> I don't know. I met him through a friend. I'm telling you, I'm being >> Facebook. Was it Instagram? How? No one just gets >> off the street. Off the street. I met him off the street. >> And why did he approach you? >> That's a question she can't seem to answer. But even after officers remind her this isn't her first time, she keeps trying to lie her way out >> because like I told you, I was desperate to to make money because I was in a financial state and that was it. And this is like my first time that I'm actually making a move like this. >> Okay, again, the truthfulness thing, right? So, Fairwinds has you flagged obviously cameras and stuff like that, facial recognition, all that stuff like that. This is not your first time. And I don't like being lied to, just like Corporal Fowl is not being lied to. He's been doing this a lot longer than I have as well. He's done deeper investigation than this. This is pretty cut and dry. So for you to lie to us like that doesn't make any sense. >> All you've done since we stepped out with you was lie to us. You gave me this ID. >> In the beginning, I did because I was scared. I'm sorry. >> This isn't the first time you've given someone else ID. You've given other people's ID, like an ID out of New Jersey and stuff like that. We have all of that doc We have all of that documented on camera >> and we're asking and we're asking for you to just talk to us. >> Yeah. And I am but I'm promising you >> this is not your first time. >> No, I swear to God this is my first time. I've never had >> I've never had another ID. >> Okay. >> What are you trying to give us from your phone? >> You wanted that person's number >> and you have no idea. No face, anything like that? >> No name. >> I don't know. You don't even save his name under his phone. >> Nothing. >> You all got text messages, communications or anything? >> So, how do you contact? Like, none of that makes sense. >> I contact somebody else. Somebody else contacts him with me. >> Yeah, that one. >> So, she's got flights here from different states. >> I don't know who Mr. Cruz is or you'll see Cruz. >> Like, what is this? >> Yeah. And there's >> just came back from a vacation. >> Phoenix SFO. >> Here, we'll take all that. We'll take her phone. She's cuz she's got a bunch of messages coming in right now. >> It's on airplane mode right now. >> We're putting evidence to let you crime out. >> Okay. If you go with what you have. >> Yeah. >> What do you want to go with me? What part do you want us? >> Uh let's uh jail now. >> Well, this is all different people from >> this officer right here. Most likely you are, ma'am. >> At this point, the officers are done entertaining her false claims. She's going into custody. >> I let somebody know >> lie to you at all, ma'am. a lot of frame ID. >> Do you have anything on you that just asking? >> Can I let somebody know that I'm going to jail? >> Go to jail. They'll they'll you'll be able to get >> I don't know their numbers. >> Here's the thing. The only way that would concern us if you had minor children that needed attendance and that's it. Other than that, if you're a grown, you trying to let a grown person know about what you're worried about. We're not concerned. We're only concern we're concerned about children. >> Do you have any kids? >> Okay. Okay. All right. >> Can I let somebody know? Please. >> She has two phones. No, that one doesn't work. >> Well, you got a message on >> something coming in for you got a message. >> It's because it's probably connected to Wi-Fi. >> No, no, no, no. It's probably connected to Wi-Fi. >> All right. Listen, so we're taking this stuff, it'll be an evidence and it's going to be as simple as that. Unfortunately, when you come to Orlando and you commit this stuff, you're going to go to jail. >> Okay. Can I please let someone know? >> Go to jail. >> Can I write somebody's number down? >> At this point, we cannot get into your phone because it's It's a lot of different games. >> My goodness. Your your phone is is our lens at this point. We're not unlocking the airplane mode. All right. We are now going to It's It's in secure mode. We have to keep >> You can contact the detective and they'll decide whether or not you can get your phones back. Okay. >> Okay. >> I don't know. Nobody. >> You got a picture? >> No. Get you uh No, I'll get you both names. >> Thank you. Raise your hand. They can help you with the phone and stuff. >> Thank you. I'm Can I talk to you outside for a second when we're done? Thanks. >> That's what we've been doing for your recruit, man. >> He wants to drive. >> What happened? >> He wants to drive Brenda. >> He doesn't want to get sick. He's He's like, "Yo, this dude's throwing up. >> I think he's the one that got me sick." >> The officers notice her growing urgency to get her phone, but it's already secured as evidence. Now, her only concern is getting ready for booking and processing. >> Hey, call somebody, please. >> At the jail, they'll give you that opportunity. Okay. >> I don't I don't know. Nobody's >> They'll assist you in looking that up. Okay. Who are you trying to call? >> My mom or my sister or somebody, please? >> What's their name in your phone? >> It's my sister's sister. My mom's under mama bear. Can I please call somebody, please? >> Will sit down. Let us listen. Hey, could you could you Are you giving us permission to go into your phone and your contacts to do that? >> All right, we'll come we'll bring it out here and we'll do it once we sit you down. >> Here once we once we get a female officer to search you, >> we'll open that. Okay, >> we got cell phones and everything else. Just smokes the basic stuff. So, I'll search her. She's got her cash, >> her money order, this and that. There's some pills in here, too. >> No, you don't care. >> Unfortunately, I have to search you. Okay, I'm officer Williams off. Okay. You mind spreading your feet for me? >> Is there anything else on you? He's no me ID on you. You're wearing your bra. >> So we didn't we only have one ID. So I'm going to do the uttering today. Yep. >> Um he said so he said defraud a financial institution. >> Yeah. So the theft the theft will be defrauding the financial institution for the one yesterday. That was just yesterday. >> As far as like the $3,000 he was saying for like grand theft we would have to like contact the >> Well, that's why he said to do that. >> Yeah. >> Instead of the grand theft, do that. >> He said see if the bank can like contact them to see if >> Yeah. But at the end of the day, I would just do your what you whatever charge you have that you protect. Do that and let's see and just let go. >> Yeah. >> First time they stop. >> Can I call somebody now? >> I'll ask that officer here. Okay. >> I'm going to look your phone just now. Okay.
