Nothing wipes away entitlement faster than a police badge. These cases capture the exact moment shoplifters go from smug to speechless. Here are five cases of embarrassing moments when police bust you for shoplifting. Number five, when being caught red-handed doesn't stop someone from trying a ridiculous excuse. On September 8th, 2024, officers responded to a reported shoplifting at a local ShopRite. Loss prevention staff claimed they had detained the suspect in their security office, but he forced their way out before the police could arrive. Officers later tracked him down at a nearby Spirit Halloween, and this is what they saw when they got there. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] Although audio has been removed for privacy, the footage shows the man calmly handing over his ID and offering his information without resistance. It's a positive sign, but that doesn't make the allegations disappear. [Music] [Music] [Music] The suspect maintains it was only shopping for flowers, but according to store staff, his actions suggested something else entirely. [Music] I don't need I I I got scared. I told her I said, "Listen, please just let me pay." I'm like, "My girl's right here." I'm like, "Let me just pay." What the man doesn't seem to realize is that shoplifting doesn't require leaving the store. Just passing the registers with concealed items is enough to raise suspicion and enough to get law enforcement involved. She's like, "Ah, we're going to have to go bring you to the office." I'm like, I was just turning around right there. I'm like, "Why didn't you wait for me to go into the street or something? Just so you could have seen for yourself if I was stealing. If I was stealing, I would have went in the street." I didn't leave the concrete. How do you say I'm stealing? I didn't leave the concrete. [Music] prevention comes over here. Okay? Is she going to say this is the guy this this is him? And I'm going to have to put you under arrest. Is that what's going to happen? What What do you mean is this the guy what? Are you the one that's was shoplifting over there? I I wasn't shoplifting. All I did was I was about to turn around and just walk right in to go pay. And and she just before I didn't even go near the street. I didn't go near the street. All right. I told you got to grab the flowers to pay for them. I don't know you pay for them after or something like that. I don't know. But you told me you had a shopping cart full of stuff. The flowers are in the beginning. No, I was with my girl we were shopping and she says, "I want those flowers." I says, "Let me grab them before we leave." Got it. All right. Yeah, they're on their way over and we'll we'll see what happens, all right? I appreciate the cooperation. No problem. I'm I'm being 100% honest with you. [Applause] The officer first meets with store security to find out if they want to press charges. Once that's clear, he goes back to relay the outcome to the suspect. All right, sir. Um so that was loss prevention. They're saying that, you know, they're going to be pressing charges. Why would they press charges against me? I never left the curb. So right now, if you could just give me the stuff that's in your hand. But I never left the curb. Just give me the stuff, sir. She's just being She's being mean to me. She's being mean to me. She's being mean to me. I don't believe she's doing this to me. But she's doing this to me. Turn around, please. Okay. You're on the wrong guy. Uh I'm going to do that cuz I got I hit an alarm earlier. I got to check out. If you don't mind putting them in. I'm going to do two cuffs, all right? Just relax. Relax. Relax. Take it nice and easy for you. All right. What else you got on you? Uh cigarettes and just my work knife. [Music] Is there anything else that's going to poke me or anything like that? No, the work knife that's it. A pack of smokes? Yeah, a pack of smokes. A smoke. My girl's going to be like, "What the" 41 She's probably going to call me right now. You want to pick up and talk to her? You're welcome to talk to her. Is she still in there anything? No, she's out. Where is she at? How do you get this thing off? Oh, just pull the flat up. All right, how do you get the thing off your belt? >> Oh, just pull it. You still have it? Pull over the car. I want to see if she can get it. You can pull it. It's like just pull it down. >> Yeah, yeah, yeah. There you go. With the decision made, officers lead the suspect to the cruiser while explaining that this is what happens when accountability catches up. All right, follow this handsome officer. Sure thing. Is this much stuff? Are they really going to have me arrested Yeah, unfortunately. Please don't. I'll tell you what, she's a very honest lady. She said that if you if you just stayed there with her >> but she was she was telling me no, but she was telling me she was going to cause problems with me. No, she said she said she was going to just process you in house, which would have been nothing criminal. She would have let you go on your merry way. She would have banned you from the store. They wouldn't have done that. Cuz you guys are going to give me a hard time. You guys are going to >> It's not on us. They're they're the ones They're going to give me one chance. Yeah. You got to get in the bus. Come on. I'm going to push the folder. It's going to be a short ride. I promise. Two minute ride. I can pop the window for you. I don't want to try this 20 bucks. Thank you, good sir. The incident ultimately led to a shoplifting charge for the suspect. Number four. Officers easily spot the one friend who isn't paying for her items. On December 4th, 2024, officers were called to a JCPenney for a reported shoplifting. By the time they arrived, the suspect was already walking out of the store. Here's how the officers responded. Walk away. Stand over here. Everybody over there. Frank 34, we got JCPenney with some shoplifters. Frank 34, JCPenney in here. No, I think I need one more car at least. Who all stole from here? All right, perfect. Everybody open your bags. Who had that bag? She just pulled it out of the snake's bag. So, I got the first bag. Yeah. 421, you want to step out? What's in that bag? Yeah, 410, All right, you're good. You're good. And you're good. You can go back inside. How old are you? Let go of the bag. How old are you? Let go of this. I'm 25. Perfect. We're going inside. With the officer by her side, the suspect is brought back inside the store where staff are ready to address the situation head on. Can I just take them out of the bag? How much is the bag? It doesn't matter. I'll pay for it. It's $3,000. Okay, let me pay for it, please. Is there anything else in here that's not paid for? No. You paid for this? That's my sister's. Is there a receipt in there? I don't even know what's in that bag. I'm probably here. I'll follow you guys. Yeah, go ahead and leave. I'm going to go I don't know where he's going to go to. Sorry. I'm going back in the bag. Yeah. That's not stolen. I'm not doing it. Okay, we're not following her. I have a gift that she asked me to hold for her. All right. In here? Yeah. Where? Just tell me. Just 421, you got a 14 10 3? Yeah. Here. 410, traffic at University and Pioneer Parkway. Like this is a lot of stuff. I got Have you been I need to rush her. Have you been arrested for shoplifting or anything before? Before. Huh? Before. This is a brand new purse, too. We're just going to bring I bought that purse months ago. Who bought this then? That's not how much it cost. I bought that from Ross. All right, we're going to take her in. All right. Like I'm begging you, please. Angela, are you from Danville? Yes. Do you live there now? Yes. I forgot what we're going to do. 11 10 3 Hey, can you just hang out by my car? Upper level, JCP. Please. And I don't know what I have, but when I first asked you for a bag, you didn't want to give it back to me. You tried to play me like I was stupid. I did give you your stuff back. And I asked everybody else if they had something to give it back. There's no denying the proof of shoplifting, but this may only be the beginning of her troubles. All right, you're not going to have any warrants or anything right now. No. You sure? >> But I have That's my Victoria's. These cases that is way serious than this. Okay. What's your other cases? I have um Can you just look at that? I can't, but I'm just asking you. What's your other cases? I have um I have a charge. Oh. Okay. You'll be going to be going to jail for charge. I'll go to jail previous history. Uh How much is the bag? 80. Okay. Here's your information if you guys need that. And just so you know, you're going to be trespassed from JCPenney. 10 10 You got to walk out. I would I would come back. 14 10 7 in their parking lot, okay? Okay. You going to take me to jail for $8? I didn't say that. I promise you. >> go back to Victoria's Secret, am I going to say this was paid for? Like I said, you can look on her cameras that my sister handed me that. She told me to hold it. Yeah, you can ask your sister. Do you have a phone? Do you have your phone with you? Call your sister and ask her if it's stolen. It's not. Cuz I'm going to go back and review the tape. If it is, I'll just take it back and write it turn it in, and we won't go any further with it. But if I have to go back and review the video to find out if it's stolen, Is this your correct address that's on That don't have nothing to do with me. So, I'm asking I'm I'm being very cool. If it's stolen, just tell me. I'll return it. We won't I don't know though. That's why I'm telling you to call your sister. Call your sister. I'm giving you a chance. If it's stolen, I'll just return it. But if I have to go back and watch the video, unfortunately, you have it with you. Okay. I don't want to go petty. I'm just giving you a chance. Can you just I don't give what you do with it. Just I'm not going to do that because if it's paid for, I can't do that. Now she says she wasn't fully aware of what she had and believed her sister had already covered the payment. That's not what the store confirms. What she say? Yeah. She said yeah. 410, we're good here. He can hold up. 15, you can clear her. She's saying it's paid for? I don't think it's paid for. You don't think so? Not from the get go with my life. When I was Is it paid for or not? Just you tell me your answer and I'll take it back. >> I just figured I'd offer since you were here. We're going to go upstairs. You're not free to go yet. Yeah. Give us one more or two more or 10 more or 20 more. Okay, so this is what we're going to do. You have no warrants, so I'm going to give you notice to appear in court. And you can leave tonight. Really? You don't have to go. I can't just write it off like nothing happened. Yeah, it's a misdemeanor. I can charge you. I can't go to court, dude. I live 2 hours away. Yeah, well, then you call in and say you can't make it to court and you do pay the restitution over the phone or whatever you have to do. Oh, so I can do Why don't you just give me a ticket and let me go? I can't do that. Fine, take it. What is it? It's a court case. You want to talk about what we did today? I apologize. You came in Did you come in here with this empty bag? No, I bought this. Go ahead and turn. I actually was receiving a gift tonight for that. 10 99 at Peninsula State pickup at 3. 10 out It's not extra 9. Awesome, thank you. Yeah. You're welcome. So, you came in here with with this bag? Yeah. >> What was that inside your purse? In there. What's your receipt in there? I bought it. Okay. Is that what old girl was carrying over there? Did she have two pairs of shoes? Yeah. 310 You know what I mean, though. I thought you didn't have this bag. I do. So, why'd you steal the purse? Come on, why you got to do that? I'm just asking a question. Why'd you take the purse? Who was doing something I have more than enough money for the purse. You want to see my bank account? I ain't got Yeah, you do. Actually, let me see that. I'd be Despite having the means to pay, she still tried to walk out with stolen goods. The officers don't let that slide. And before the ride to the station, they make sure she understands exactly what that choice cost her. Can you write her an NCA real quick for retail theft on her? You got the money to pay for it, why you I told you you can't appear in court. You need to contact Just doing it. You're bored, don't be stupid. Now you got a case. Let me ask you this. For a girl that's been arrested for like you told me. You think you want to be doing That's against the law, correct? Do I even want to know what the charge I'm kind of interested. What happened there? It's on record. Off the record. Um allegedly it was a big old fight. A girl ended up passing away and they put the tape on. Where did that happen? Danville? Did you hit her or something? It was a huge fraud. And a whole bunch of people beat her up or what? No. Everybody's beating everybody? She or what? I can't talk about that. Is it still going? Can you quit asking me questions about it? >> still going, isn't it? It's still going, isn't it? Hey, you're you're lucky I'm being nice. I'm cutting you a break tonight cuz you could go to jail and that will definitely not help you. >> I'm not no bad. Like come on now. I know you're not bad. Hey, by the Hey, you know I'm not bad. Hey, by the way, I got my last arrest it was What? Yeah. I'm not saying you're a bad person but you're doing some bad You're bad person. JC Penney ultimately decided to trespass the woman from the property and she was also charged with petty theft. Number three. Entitled woman's story changes fast when she realizes she was caught on camera. On May 11th, 2025, police responded to a call from Sunglass Hut about a woman suspected of stealing a pair of Ray-Ban mega glasses. When officers arrived, the store employee had a story to tell. I know I'm trying to pull the video up but the video is super slow. She was with another like elderly lady. She um I saw her and she had to flip stuff over and she said, "I just want to look." And I was like, "Ma'am, you're welcome to look if you like." And then the older lady that came in with her wanted to get me on back side of the room. So I'm It's missing. Like obviously missing, so Okay. I'm just going to pull it up. I'm just waiting on the internet here. Okay, there we go. We're going to watch it together. Okay. See where it went. It's either her or her She really didn't touch much. That's the lady she was with. That's when she grabs them. Yep, there she goes. She put them in her pocket, see? She just put them in her pocket. Yep, we I got it. Um okay. >> may still be here. She sticks them in her pocket and hauls butt out the door. Cuz I had like four people in here at the same time and I knew she took something cuz she went way too fast out of my store. Yep. How long ago was this? It was at Georgia. So she left her leg brace behind. And I got mama on tape. Okay, let me see if I can find her. All right, thank you. I'm I'll come back to take more information if I can't find her. Yep. Okay, we got her on video stealing sunglasses walking out the door. She's over here to my left at Southwest Gate between 2 and 4. We got her on video. Yep, it's got the Georgia tag and uh they're they're Air Force Ones. Yep, one pair of sunglasses. We saw her take it off the shelf and put it in her pocket and leave. Can Can you hang and watch her? I'm going to go back to Sunglass Hut to let them know we got her. Okay. And to get the video ready. The officer returns to the store to let the employee know they've located the suspect and her companion. Before any questioning begins, he asks her to get the evidence ready. Is my her mom still with Gucci too? All right, do you have that on video? I can pull it up in a second. >> Okay, get ready to do that we found her. Okay, yeah. It's red and blue. It's really noticeable. Okay. Um if they return it If they just give it back, do you want to still proceed? >> cuz it's over $500. Okay. She's moving. Ma'am, let me just speak with you over here for a minute. You too, ma'am. I'm not what? I need to speak to you over here. >> Okay, you can talk to me right here. All right, that's fine. Were you at the Sunglass Hut earlier? >> was not. Looks just like you. We got you on video. You don't have me on video. Oh yeah, we do. Yeah, we do. Yes, I do. No, you don't. She took some Guccis, too. You can come and show me on camera where you Oh yeah, let's do that. Let's do that. Let's do that. And it's a way to tell like the way the officers is people and stuff and approach us in a better manner you know. Yeah. I I don't know what you mean by that. >> I I don't get it either but uh I want to show you the video because your description fits exactly and we have you grabbing some stuff and putting it in your pocket. So let's show you and then >> and I put them She told me to put them back and I handed them to her. That's fair enough. And then and you'll show that dialogue when we do the video. Let's go ahead and proceed, police. Okay, first of all Here is your stuff. I'm about to be watched because that's the flight that I'm taking cuz I have a bag. Okay, so would you like to bring that stuff with you when we go down there? Yeah, I can grab my stuff. Yeah, see that's the thing you can't leave your stuff by yourself. Listen, if you can't leave by yourself even though someone's watching it it's got to be yours. You can't just leave it there and have someone that's watching it. The officers are ready to begin their inquiry but the woman's behavior quickly turns difficult. And this is where the situation starts going downhill. And then I was on my way to the restroom to change my tampon and I changed my tampon Well, there's a restroom down here. >> on my pants so I want to change my tampons and then you guys can gladly wait right up here. Yes, there's a restroom out here. You can use it if No, she could go to the bathroom now cuz where she where she discards the stuff. [Music] I'm sorry. I said I'm in a public city. I'm not going nowhere. Well, here's the concern we have. If you have any property that doesn't belong to you at this time, this is a good time to go ahead and discard it. So let's look at the video first. Okay, I'm about to pee and change my tampon then we can go. You can wait right here until I No, you're under investigation right now. You're being detained. You're being Yeah, we have a bathroom downstairs. Well, I'm bleeding. We have a bathroom downstairs for you. I have to make it home to my grandmother. She >> have a bathroom now. We have a bathroom downstairs. I >> It's private and won't even be anyone >> Okay, well go get a woman. Go get a woman cuz you can't tell me I can't pee and I'm bleeding. We're giving you a We're giving you a bathroom. We're giving you a private bathroom right now. bathroom? I don't trust that. Let me use the bathroom where everybody around can see me. Okay, so so so first things first, do you know what you Do you know why you know why we're stopping you, right? No, I don't know but I need to pee. I need to pee and then you can address it. She's been alleged and then we have our video Okay, so can you take that out for me whatever that was that was taken from the store? Show it to me before you go inside because I don't know what you're going to be doing in there. I'm going to go use the restroom. Right, so how can I trust you then? Yeah, you can trust us. Yeah, he's been up here talking about telling me and my mom stole something. Mama gone. I'm trying to go pee and change my tampon. They're making it a big deal. And they I like I don't She's been She's been accused of shoplifting and we have it on video. By now, the woman should understand that it's in her best interest to follow the officer's instructions but instead it becomes clear she's trying to delay the process at every turn. So what's the So So she wants to go say she used the bathroom but the problem is is that we can't control everything that she has so we're going to bring her into the private bathroom downstairs where she'll be all by herself. We won't even be in there. >> can you tell me when I can and can't pee? >> Would you like to come with us? Peeing on the same flight as me. Yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying. For your comfort If y'all not I'm about to go pee and y'all can stand right here and wait. You're under investigation station right now. You can't leave with anything like that right now. You're going to go to a safe No, I'm telling you you can use I'm telling you you can use the bathroom in a secure location and it's just right downstairs. You cannot just sit here and tell me that I got to walk around bleeding. >> under investigative detention right now. You are not free to go. You may use the bathroom in our private area and this person who seems that you had trust may escort you but you're going to go into a private escorted area with your own privacy. So I am allowing you and giving you the immediate opportunity to use the bathroom. Do you understand that? Now, if this escalates, I may have to put you in handcuffs. Exactly. So would you prefer not being handcuffed or handcuffed? Where is mama at? I don't know. She was here. I don't know where she got to I don't got any They got some of this stereo type one. No one's stereotyping you. We don't That's what I'm doing right now. But so I won't miss my flight. She's led to a nearby bathroom where no one else is present. And once she's finished, officers move in to question her directly. I have a quick question, so saw you on camera grabbing items. So where is it? I don't have it, sir. I'mma tell you the truth. >> So where So So where did you put it? I put it back. She I handed it to her. No, we watched the We watched the video. >> You can check me and everything. I don't have no glasses. So we We understand. I You don't understand because if you understand then you would be handing >> I know but I know but I hear you now but you didn't let me finish. So I'm going to give you some information. You watched the video camera. We did see you take the glasses. We did see you put in your persons and we saw you walk out. We didn't see you go back in and give it back to her. So my next question is where is it? Where did you put it? >> I handed them back to her. Not according to the video. You walked out. So So I'm asking you where did you put it? I didn't put them nowhere. I gave them back to her. Not according to the video footage. >> Well, I gave them back to her. Not in the video footage. So So she was in I might have a look-alike or something but I don't have no glasses. I don't >> did see her You can't, but you can't hold me accountable for something that I don't got. So, we could because on video when it shows you walking out with it, you never come back. You never gave it back to her. You know what? This could be easily resolved. We just got to look at the video and then you can recount your side of the story and then we'll be done. >> But if you said you already seen the camera, then why did you take me back over there for? I don't have no glasses. >> you to explain to me that, "Hey, no, this it looks like that, but if you notice at this frame, I passed the glasses back to the attendant." Explain it to me. Prove Show me in the video where you did all that so we can get this cleared. I'm not trying to do anything. I'm trying to investigate this allegation and So, you need handcuffs on me right now? No. We're still investigating. So, the more we keep talking, the less time we have to get you out of here. So, so, so, show the process. So, you're going to go set sunglasses. Show where you were, how you did it, and how you handed it back. Cuz you're telling that I can't visually picture it. I'm not up there. The suspect keeps insisting she doesn't have the glasses, claiming it's just her vape that was seen in her pocket and not stolen merchandise. But with the store video in hand, her story isn't holding much weight. So, you told me that this is what you did. >> I picked some glasses up and she was like >> So, show him upstairs. You know this is America and you get to face your accuser. And we're going to get this thing straight. Okay. So, let's go ahead and talk to her then. Come on. Okay. So, come on in. Well, I don't know what anybody else has going on. I don't know how How can I put anything in this bag? Yeah, let's go ahead and show her cuz she's saying that she can explain it. She says that she gave the glasses to him. First and foremost, you don't have to use any foul language. We're all civil here. I'm not sure. I don't know where your phone is. [Music] Okay, just go ahead and bring up Bring up the video. That's right. It's She insists the treatment she's receiving is unfair, even discriminatory. But with clear evidence in play, her complaints only go so far. No, let her do her thing. Better do her thing so we can get you moving. Okay, you got to go. Turn around, ma'am. You're under arrest for theft for shoplifting. Turn around, ma'am, please. I don't know if I don't know when your flight is, but turn around, please. Ma'am, turn around. Okay, I know we don't want to deal with it. No, you're under arrest now for retail theft, shoplifting. There you go. You found those? Tampering with evidence, Roger. Are those it? Okay, ma'am, you've been charged with shoplifting and tampering with evidence. Okay. Well, I think they know you're here, but they'll probably see you on the way out. Yeah, I'll let him deal with that. It's a misdemeanor. Cuz I don't think she's going to pursue the felony charge. Oh, yeah, they'll they'll rebook you easily enough. We can do that with you. Not sure at this point. We'll find it. I'm going to let him go ahead and There's no more hiding from the facts. The same woman who stood her ground earlier now backs down entirely. So, who's your friend in the red shirt? That's my mom. You see her where it goes on the shirt and into the bag? So, I'm not going to jail or can I get a ticket? That's not It's not not in Chatham County. It's It's not a ticket. So, you're you're going to get booked. I hate to say it and I'm going to be bright as possible. Sometimes actions got consequences. And this happened to be one of them. But unfortunately, hey, listen. So, this is not Oklahoma. This is Chatham County, Georgia. Georgia's different. I'm not right now. What do you want to do with our We're going to try to locate and recover the stolen property? Yep. Okay, so, um would you like to give this to your brother? No. It don't work that way here for that charge. She's in the back of the cruiser now and the officer gives her one more chance to come clean about her companion. Unfortunately, she doesn't take it. What other person is out there? Oh, yeah, we don't have her. Look, but the flight hadn't left yet. What's that? Yeah. So, So, we found you first, but we're going to look for her now. Well, they won't let you take it to jail. So, that's what I said. That's something that you're trying to get a hit. I got one. I don't know where the other one is. She's kind of like she went totally gone once we started tracking her. But she's got a flight to catch, so she's probably up there. What's that? Yep, we caught him. Uh when she went in the bathroom, she discarded the stolen glasses. Poops found it. It shows our glasses with recorders. Uh over 300. Yeah. And the uh And the other it's a misdemeanor. I know. What do you What What options do we have? Set a bond for her. It's like it's pretty low anyways. Yeah. And she does She does want to prosecute, so We're trying to find her. She's She's got a red jacket shirt on. Yeah, so I can't I can't see her on the concourse there. Trying to hide what she took only made things worse. She was later charged with shoplifting and tampering with evidence. Number two. Shoplifter learns that the police will find you, even during a salon appointment. On March 13th, 2025, officers were sent to Belk after staff saw a woman hiding merchandise on their store cameras. She made it outside, but officers located her shortly after at a nearby salon. Here's how the police caught the suspect by surprise. [Music] Get out here. She She tried to hide it all in the bathroom. Turn around and put your hands behind your back.
