You know, they went straight to register one, this was a two, that means a three. From there, they they paid for only that bag right there, and the rest of the stuff which is this receipt was unpaid for. And they have no identification whatsoever. They paid 22 so 140. >> Yeah, yeah, of course. >> It is. >> It is not. >> So, you just want to sign complaints? >> Robin? >> You want to sign complaints? >> Absolutely. Of course. Do you want to like The thing is that what do you want to press full charges? Full charges. >> Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's unfortunate, you know, it's just the policy. I don't want to get in trouble with my my boss. >> All right. >> All right, so they're 25, so they're The reason why is a lot of times they got everything on them, but they don't want to show it. What if they had it at home and they come in and they got to do it? That's why I never feel too bad. When the store confirms it wants to move forward with charges, the suspects attempt to avoid the outcome, but the officers bring the conversation back to reality. I'm ma'am, uh I understand Right. These are their personal bags. Okay. All right. Okay. I understand that you have the money to pay right now for what you did from the beginning. He's beat. And we I I think this is what he paid. And I think that he paid. He thinks that he paid. Uh well, all right. Well, listen, this is what they want to do. They don't want to let you pay for it after the fact. Well, God, that's that's They want to sign complaints. So that's Now you got to got to get up, okay? Okay, can you get up for me? Put your money back in your wallet. Just turn around. All right, turn around. Turn around. Do you have your hands behind your back, please? Do you have your hands behind your back? Do you have your hands behind your back? I'm sorry, I'm just trying to Yeah. Look. It doesn't It doesn't matter. They want to sign complaint. No, no, no, no, I have It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. You will be in place under arrest. They want to file a complaint against you, so >> Are you husband and wife? Are you Are you her husband? Are you Is that your Is this your husband? >> Yes. >> Okay. We can take them both. Take them both. >> But But just put them separate. Can you do this? Can I get my bag? >> All right, I'm just going to search yours. Turn around. >> Okay. Turn around. Place your hands behind your back. Turn around. >> With the weight of the moment setting in, the woman suddenly breaks down in tears. >> Which bags are there? >> Look, this These two over here. >> These three. Everything that's here is there. >> Okay. I'm going to search you, okay? I'm going to check your pockets. >> Can you search all the bags? I got all the bags. Can you search them? You go ahead. You go inside. What do you have in your pocket? >> Oh, you want to go ahead? >> Yes, go ahead and leave. I want to ask you a question when you leave. >> That's yours? Okay. All right, go ahead and leave. >> Okay. It's none. I can't What do you have in here? What do you have in here? Phone? No. >> Not long after a police sergeant steps in and the officers confer about the next steps. >> Yeah, they're my second place. >> I just searched her. >> That's all his stuff right there? >> Yeah, that's his stuff. All right, she had nothing on her person. All her stuff is in here. >> Okay. That's all his stuff? >> And then these two bags are theirs and they paid for that. >> All right, so we're good to go? >> Mhm. >> Yep. All right, let's put the stuff back in the bag. Put everything we searched everything. Put everything in the bag. >> 16532 Yeah, 25 minutes. >> There was a bunch of pennies. >> Huh? >> No, there's a bunch of his pennies that fell out of his pocket when you were searching. >> With the search finished, officers conclude their conversation with store staff and begin transporting the suspects. >> Ask email, ask the company email. Phone number is just the store number. Okay. This is yours. All right, let's go. Thank you. You guys in the same car or two separate cars? >> Separate. >> Is that your jacket? >> Sorry, they're husband and wife, I think. And unless you want to separate. >> I'll grab the stuff. >> And I'll follow you guys up. >> Okay. >> Just grab it for us, don't be following. >> Once the situation is finalized, officers proceed with taking the suspects into custody. >> Hi, how are you? Bring it up. Wait, wait, wait. I'm wearing this car. What? Go ahead, get in. 105 105 All right, one of them is going be transporting to male. Uh Officer Lee's going to be transporting the female and we're all going to be coming up. I'll follow them both up 41 to 51 to 52 I'll give you the final location in a second. 35 >> Due to their actions, their simple vacation took a turn for the worse and after their encounter with the police officers, the suspects were both charged with shoplifting. Number three, partners in crime head to the station together. On June 1st, 2025, police were called to a Walmart over a shoplifting in progress. Officers step in to see what's really going on. >> Where are they >> Is my camera on now? >> Where are they at? Also, did they already stop them? >> Yeah. >> Is it those two? >> Oh, they already apprehended her by the police. >> So, what do we have How do you How do you know >> What's going on? All right. I didn't know. I got you. You can have a Take a seat for us. >> Hello. >> Take a seat for us. >> Yeah. >> Thanks, please. All right, with all due respect in mind, do you guys wish to speak with us? >> I've got you writing everything up. >> Do you Do you wish to speak with us, yes or no? >> What? >> Yes or no, it's up to you guys. >> I mean >> Look, I need to speak to you. >> I mean yeah, it's my first >> So, for us to ask you about what's going on, I have to get a yes or no about >> know. We just spent $140. >> Yes or no? >> Yes, I will speak with you. >> or no, okay. Okay, so what's going on today? >> Um I shoplifted some cactuses and I don't really know what I think that's really about it. >> So, you said that you shoplifted the cactuses? >> I don't know. You were going so fast that scanner dropped the scanner and he started going with it. >> I will >> We're good. >> What did you shoplift? >> I Did you Did you just purposely not scan it? >> Well, no. I would I He He did the hand held gun thing. >> Uh-huh. And and I just assumed he went around and got everything. And and when I realized the amount that I was paying cash for was a lot lower than I should have had in the cart. Cuz I do my math as I shop. >> So it wasn't intentional then? >> So how'd you know that the cactuses were shoplifted and not intentional? >> Well, that's what I Not intentional, but when I went through to pay my cash at the end of the transactions, I I realized that I didn't pay. Cuz I didn't I added everything up before I put it in the cart. >> So when you were at the register, you realized what's the price being too low that you didn't pay? >> When I pulled out our receipt, yes. >> So then why why didn't you pay for the rest of the stuff? Why did you decide to just leave? >> Cuz he told us to go out the door. >> Yeah, that's what I'm trying to do. >> I don't know. >> So you didn't do it intentionally? >> No, I had I just paid >> Was there anything else besides the cactuses? >> I didn't pay for it. >> Yeah. >> I don't I don't know. >> They admit to the theft almost immediately, but argue it was a mistake, despite the store's cameras showing exactly what happened. >> Right now all you know is just the cactuses. >> The this Yeah, the the bird feeder, the cactuses. I paid for I know I I paid for I I myself scanned the deodorant. I myself scanned the toilet paper. I myself scanned >> Based on the amount you have stolen in the store, if it's 300 or more, that's felony amount. If it's under 300, >> This is what didn't even go anywhere. >> How'd you guys scan anything? You just grabbed it. >> So what's all over there? Just what >> Can you tell me >> Yeah, yeah, yeah. I I recognized that the amount >> Can you show me something else in If you knew it was wrong, did you >> I didn't I just paid >> Or maybe you didn't Or maybe it came over when you were scanning. my pellets I should have which I think some of that might be a bit like that stuff they might Walmart might have a policy No I I think they're doing their part making sure you guys are there. You can use the one that you have from one what? Yeah he got the meat. We all just scanned it. Yeah he scanned it up. Yes I am. And then he covers up the jeans and stuff down here. Are you on probation or something? It's obvious that this No I graduated cuz they played with the checkers three times. There's also more stuff they got to cover. Yeah he did the bottom card to me. Did she just scan it to me there? Yeah they got the meat. Oh let me see if they got the scan. Yeah he just did the water and the lettuce and stuff on the bottom of the cart and then used the meat to cover the rest of the groceries. So this stuff Yeah that ever get scanned? This is scanned but all he might have for your personal he doesn't take that out. I know that gets thrown out The officer circled back on the inconsistencies and as the suspects respond it becomes obvious they're not on the same page. So when you had the scanner you were scanning some items on the back of the bottom of the cart right? So why didn't you scan the pool chemicals or the water? The huh? I thought she had already I thought she had already scanned it. I didn't know I wasn't paying attention. But you had the The water was only like five bucks. I thought I scanned it. I scanned it for soda pops. Yeah so there were like four items on the bottom of the OT code. Is that Was it the He told me to get the soda. That's what I thought she had already scanned the water so thank you I appreciate that. And whatever the CR code is. Yeah if you just watch our video >> Right and the rest of it is >> No, you guys ever been stopped before like out of Walmart? >> No, yeah. The Pepsi and the Mountain Dew. >> They're saying that if it's $300 or more I get a felony and if it's $300 or less it's considered a misdemeanor. >> That's just how state statute reads. That's correct. Is this your first time getting on retail theft? Anything >> I've never been convicted for retail theft in the past. >> Okay. So I'll put this back in the cart and >> Put everything that was taken. >> For Walmart something. You got her What's that? >> You got her info? >> Yep. >> No, this is what we stole right here on this cart. >> Oh, that's the >> Yeah. >> I thought we paid for these things. >> We paid for the >> All right guys, so this is just standard procedure. I'm going to take your guys' picture. It just goes to our evidence website. It's not like publicly accessed or anything like that. Figured I'd warn you before I start taking pictures. >> And Walmart will do the same as well. >> After reviewing the details, the officers and employees calmly lay out the reality of what comes next. >> Alrighty, so that same card that we utilized that we utilized that card to shop here often? >> What card? >> The one we used to pay today. >> Paid with cash. Um it just depends on who's paying. >> Okay. So what we're going to do is we're going to run that card and see if there's any other opportunities where this happened before. In the past because we go off strictly behavior. So we're going to visualize the same thing that happened today that happened last time. We're going to issue a trespass, okay? >> What do you mean happened last time? >> So last time you shopped here. Yeah. So what we do is we run the card that was used on this theft this time and then we run it verify that if those are you or you or him are in this video doing the same things that happened today, then we issue a trespass, Thank you. >> All right, have a good day. Thank you. so you both going to be getting the same thing here, okay? This is a citation for retail theft, a notice to appear, okay? From what I viewed, it looks like you're at fault, too. From from what I observed, okay? So, that has a mandatory court appearance on July 7th at the Tazewell County Courthouse in Pekin at 9:00 a.m. in room 101. >> Where? >> Tazewell County Courthouse in Pekin. You take that to the courthouse. >> Will they have a fine or what's the >> They decide from there. You talk to a judge and then he looks over the case and decides what he does from there. >> All right, man. Can I have you stand up? I have to search you. >> Dude, I don't have anything. >> All right, that's what the paper is for. You have your hand on your phone. >> Hey, you got pictures of everything? >> Yep. >> Are you guys trespassing? >> Oh, we did trespass. >> Already have your picture. We've got a picture of We've got a copy, so. >> All right, so you're done with them? >> Yep. >> All right, you guys are free to go. >> Awesome. >> Have a better day. >> After reviewing the incident, the officers determined that the suspects had stolen about $270 in merchandise. Both were ultimately charged with retail theft and issued trespass warnings by Walmart. Number two. Man's instant noodle shoplifting streak finally ends. On November 17th, 2023, officers responded to a call from a local grocery store after staff reported a man leaving with unpaid cup noodles. I haven't broken the law. >> Yes, you do. Where you coming from? >> Why? >> Cuz we just got a call that you were at CVS, yes? >> No. >> Okay. Put Put down. >> Well, I'm not breaking the off? >> Put the stuff down. What is your name? >> Terry Johnson. >> Terry Johnson. Do you have an ID? >> No. >> You don't have anything on you? >> No, sir. >> All right, we have you stopped. All right, can you do me a favor and you have contact CVS? Did you just come out of CVS? Yes? >> Yes. >> Okay. Come here. >> Come here what? >> I'm here. >> Sir, you don't have to grab on me like that. >> I can stand right here. >> Come over here. Do you have anything on you? >> No, sir. >> Okay. >> Sure that he's uh >> That's why he pointed it out to you. >> Okay. >> Where are you from? >> Did you take it in the house? >> I don't have to tell you where I'm from. >> You're right. You don't. Did you take anything else? Just that? Okay. 27, uh I'm sorry. 90, can you kindly do me a favor and contact the manager? >> He doesn't deny what he did, brushing it off almost casually. But as the investigation continues, things start to heat up. >> So, am I going to jail, or for shoplifting, right? >> Well, you have been arrested before for shoplifting? >> So I need to >> Well, you ask the question, I can't answer it unless you answer my this question I just You were arrested before for shoplifting? So I can't guarantee you anything. >> That's personal. Hey, guarantee this is >> Yeah, that's me pointing him right out. He wasn't in the first place. Try me. >> Turn around, please. >> Turn around. >> You're being placed under arrest. Put your hands behind your back. >> Turn around. >> Turn around, turn around, face the wall. >> You asked me to turn and face the wall. That's all. That's all. >> Now, do you have anything >> No, I can't stand it. >> Anything sharp in your pocket? >> No, sir. Yeah, please do. Be my guest. >> All right, do you have anything in your pocket? >> No, sir. Nothing nothing that I owe you. >> Can you turn around? >> Man, he's searching my pocket. Thanks, Joe. >> Now that he's in custody, officers are turning their attention to what actually started the situation inside the grocery store. >> Just got contacted again just in case you see. >> But how did How did this all start? >> Joe grabbed I guess out of the bathroom and he went to follow him and said that's the guy with a trench coat walking out. He stopped him here. He said >> Oh, he just happened to be the Joe? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> He was walking to the job down there. He said, "Oh, I got a I said, "We need to get that on you." >> Okay. >> See you guys tomorrow. >> Just on the unclassified seat belt? Put that hand on the wall. Take this off. Yep. >> I don't have enough for you. >> Sit down. >> By the end of the incident, the suspect was charged with shoplifting. Number one, man skip scan scheme falls apart when he's caught red-handed. On January 9th, 2025, officers headed to a Walmart following reports that a customer used the self-checkout to avoid paying for several items. Upon arrival, the situation develops once the officers speak with Walmart security. >> And he's pretty much got all ramen noodle packets centrally. >> It didn't scan? >> No, he didn't scan that. He just scanned in the cheap food. And so he's done like a shirt and some other >> So he's just scanning in this cheap right there? >> Yeah. So like that shampoo and that's not on there. All he has is an oatmeal and the ramen noodles and like this car stereo thing he didn't get obviously. I'm sure he's going to put that on it. >> Is he right here at this one? >> No, he's on the other >> He's on the other side? >> Yeah, and like that Tide he didn't get. Let's see what he does here. Cuz there's two of us. >> I'm not going to do that anyways. I'm just asking. Did somebody scan? Cuz I don't need no trouble, dude. >> Okay. >> Oh, you need no trouble? I'll take my >> camera. >> Why don't you just go ahead and put your hands behind your back? >> Oh, my >> I'm putting you in handcuffs for now, bro. >> Oh. >> We're just going to detain you, okay? You're not free to leave or go anywhere, all right? >> I'm not doing anything, though. >> I know, well. >> I just scanned. I can take my receipt, bro. >> Well, we'll get to that point if that's the case. All right, come on. >> All right, man. >> As officers guide him to the security room, he hurriedly starts offering his explanation. >> I was like, Dude, I almost scanned right here in the store here, like this. >> What? >> Why, bro? Why? I have a job to do. So, why are you doing this like this? This is very embarrassing, man. >> Well, I'm sorry, but I'm doing my job. If you don't like it, that's not my problem, okay? >> Okay. >> Well, I watched you not scan a few things in your cart that looked expensive. >> Like what are you talking about? >> The stereo that's on the bottom and the radio that's sitting in the cart underneath all the stuff that you put on top of the radio. So, that's what I mean, like that. Well, we're we're going to go to the office, and we'll get to the bottom of it, all right? A lot of stuff in that cart just for me being here in 2 minutes if you haven't scanned it, okay? >> I'm telling you, I have a receipt, okay? >> Let me grab this receipt for you. There you go. We're going to go through all the stuff in the cart, and we're going to figure out what's going on. >> I didn't mean to, dude. >> So, at this point you're not free to leave. Do you understand that? >> I'm under arrest. >> Josh, well, let's figure it out. >> No, I ain't. >> You're detained. >> Okay. >> I'm under arrest. >> said you're under arrest yet, but before we ask any questions, might I advise you of your rights? I wasn't going to grab that speaker. I was going to put it back. That's why I put the radar detector back. That's why I gave her another item back. I was not trying to steal the speaker, dude. >> His explanations jump from one point to another, but officers bring the conversation back down by reminding him of the situation he's in. >> radio. Dude, the lady was sitting there watching who she was making me nervous. I just was literally getting ahead of myself. I swear on my kids I'm not lying to you, dude. That's a $25 or $34 radio, dude. I know you probably heard that before a thousand times, and I know with my background you're not going to believe me, dude. But I'm telling you the truth, dude. I did not mean to, bro. >> Did you come here with the intent to steal? >> No, dude. >> Okay.
