Most parents go out of their way to protect their kids. These ones, they left them behind to commit a crime. Here are four cases when cops discover babies left unattended while parents shoplift. Number four, child left behind while two adults run off with stolen goods. On June 12th, 2025, officers responded to a shoplifting call at a Five Below store where two women were seen leaving with unpaid merchandise. According to the staff, they had also left a child unattended in a car outside. When officers arrived, the suspects had already reached their black Dodge Caravan, but police were able to intercept them before they could drive off. The stolen items were recovered, and both [music] women admitted to the theft without hesitation. Here's what happened next. >> Signature from you right here. They also came across a magnetic detacher tool often used to remove shoplifting tags, further complicating the situation. >> Yes. Going with us. >> What? >> Yeah. That's >> good thing is you got four more of them in the car. >> You guys got to leave. >> All right, we're done here. >> Another detail emerged during the stop. It turns out that the driver had no license. Normally, that could have led to the car being towed, but because both suspects remained calm and didn't try to run, officers decided not to issue a ticket or impound the vehicle. Bring your receipt. >> Neither did the Ross. The one that's in the car, too. We're done, man. This is >> I'm just trying to fight. I got >> This whole thing could have been avoided had you not come up to the mall today and stole. >> You're not getting a ticket for not having a license. You can't drive off. >> I can't I don't know. >> You want to go get him the shirt back? >> No, cuz we can't prove that that's not good. >> Oh, okay. Both women were ultimately charged with retail theft while the man faced an additional charge for possession of burglary tools. All three were also issued notices to appear in court. Number three, woman prioritizes stealing over her child. On June 14th, 2024, officers in Florida responded to a call from a woman at a local mall who reported that her wallet had been stolen after briefly setting it down. Minutes later, she learned that one of her cards had already been used at a store inside the same mall. Rather than confronting the suspects herself, she made the smart call, contacting the police and waiting nearby. This is what happened once officers arrived. >> Um, so tell me what happened. >> Okay, so we were at Paxton and I had put like my keys somewhere like right on top of like something I was looking for and then when I went to go get them, they were gone. >> Your keys? >> Yeah, like my my Well, it's >> so it had like money in it, all my cards, like uh my work key. >> Okay. He's right there where you stood. uh the male subject uh in custody outside of >> with both parents now in custody, officers are left to manage a difficult situation. Now we have a young child standing nearby, seemingly unaware of what's happening or why. It's now up to the officers to keep things calm and make sure the child stays safe. I'm sweating. >> I'm open this for my baby. >> Okay, listen. >> Ma'am. Ma'am, >> we ask you to stay over here. Now, I'm going to put you in the car, right? >> There you go. Right here. I'm not moving. >> I'm going to bring my car. They're all >> some B. You being held up for >> I'm asking you to stand still. You can move it around. If you can't do that, it don't matter. It don't matter. That's not the problem. We're asking you to stand still. You can't be walking around doing this now. You're going to go in the car. Okay. So, have a seat over here or stand over here. Huh? >> My name is >> I'm just sweating. That's fine. Okay, that's fine. I'm I'm going to go ahead and pat you down then. >> Okay, >> stand over here. Hold on. Hold on. Okay, stop. Stop. You're doing You're doing way too much. >> Stand over here. >> You trying to take your jacket off? >> My pants. >> There are your pants. So, have a seat. >> I'm That's why I'm moving around. >> Okay. Well, I I I'm not going to take off a cuff right now. You're moving around way too much. So, >> I ain't say the cuff. I'm talking about my jacket. >> Yeah, that's fine. >> Is there some way to give me some water, please? >> I don't have any water on me. >> Can you wrap my head up for me? As officers attempt to collect surveillance footage and transaction records from the store, the female officer on the scene is struggling to keep the woman calm and cooperative. She's fidgeting, pacing, and showing signs that she doesn't want to stick around. >> Sakina, >> here. Just have a seat, please. >> Okay. And I'm not going to give you no candy and no phones. Just have a seat. >> Just have a seat. >> Entrance number. >> You hear me talking to you? Have a seat. >> I don't have to sit down. I'm hot. >> Okay. Well, I can't have you. You're walking up and down. No, you are. You're over there. You're over here. You're going to go in the car next. >> I am sweating so bad. Give me one of your candies. >> We're not going to have no candies. No. I told you that like five times already. >> All right. You're going to have to take a seat. Look at me real quick. >> Your daughter's here. >> So, make it happen for you. Don't play games with me right now. >> Your daughter is going to go with him. You're going to get inside. Look at me. Look at me. Hello. Is that her father? >> You're going to get in the police car without causing a problem? >> Yes, sir. >> Get in the police car now. >> So, I'm getting arrested. >> Get in the police car now. Walk over here. >> He said I'm getting arrested. >> Listen to me. >> Your baby's right here, man. >> Inside the police car. Okay. Sit inside the police car. Nobody's leaving until we say it's time to go. >> After making sure the child is with someone safe, the officers lead the woman to the patrol car. The investigation has already confirmed that she's the one they've been looking for. Records show she used the stolen card to buy shoes totaling $21023. >> Did you double lock her? >> Yeah. >> All right. >> Sit inside the car. >> Stop talking. Stop. My baby. >> We are in control of this. Okay. Nobody's going to do nothing until we say so. Get inside the car. >> Sit inside the car correctly. So I'm not watch your legs. >> Let me get the You have a Miranda >> the receipt. >> Ma'am, what's your name? >> Shakanda. >> Chwanda. >> Shakanda. >> Okay. Just be patient. All right. Oh, sorry. You all right? >> Please, sir. >> All right. Let me close the door and be patient with me and I'll get with you. Okay. >> Before taking the next steps, officers go through the woman's personal belongings to confirm what items are actually hers and what may be connected to the stolen wallet. >> Wanda. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Anything you want to tell me about the cash? >> Yes, sir. >> How about this, >> sir? Yes. >> What do you want to tell me about this? What's that? >> You want to go to jail? >> Yes, ma'am. >> What? And even after that, re-entry isn't guaranteed. >> After a year, then uh they'll forgive you. But for right now, >> you're going to go >> Evangela wrote it down for just to put it in the report. >> I need to speak fresh. >> Hey, you need >> I need to speak with him as as far as with my keys and stuff. Number two, when escaping a petty charge matters more to her than a child's safety. On February 11th, 2020, [music] officers responded to a call from a Home Depot after staff caught a woman shoplifting with her young child trailing closely behind. After reviewing security footage and confirming the theft, store employees decided to involve law enforcement. I need you to be the witness for that, please. >> Can you want me outside? No. >> In addition to the toddler by her side, the officers learned that another child is waiting for the suspect in her car. Now, the woman begins pointing to her kids as a reason not to be arrested. However, the officers have heard enough, and the store is firm in holding her accountable for her actions. [snorts] Who are they? >> My friend and my son is in the car. My cousin. >> How can you just I'm not I don't know. Her phone probably dead or something. I'm not going to do anything. However, what she does next takes the whole situation in the wrong direction. Just put him right there. >> Get off of me. [crying] Lady, you're not you're not moving. Lady.
