Now, >> come on, man. We don't have to do all that. >> You're doing too much. >> No. >> But there's any way you cannot do this in front of your face just in case. >> Man, there's bar. It's It's night time. Nobody's really out there. >> Getting caught shoplifting is bad enough, but these people somehow make the situation even worse. Here's when entitled shoplifters pick the wrong cops to test, and it backfires fast. Shoplifter thought nobody was watching until loss prevention stepped in. On September 6th, 2025, officers were dispatched to [music] a Kohl's after staff reported that a woman had allegedly underpaid for merchandise before attempting [music] to leave the store. The officers arrived just in time to stop her before she could leave. >> Man, she's walking out now. >> Hello, police department. How are you doing? >> I'm good. >> Good. Let's talk back in the OP office and we'll go from there. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Oh my god. >> So, right now you're being detained. You're not free to leave. Okay. Just follow him. >> I'm going to have you take a seat. >> Do you have your ID on you? >> Yeah. >> So, is there a reason why you're putting your fake tags on here? Well, >> that's not your ID. >> Oh, sorry. >> She was using like something called jumping beans, which is like baby's clothes as items to scan. >> Scan everything full price a switch. But this is brand new. We just released this like a week ago and she paid a dollar for it. >> That was just a sale. It was there. Yeah, but why' you scan those jumping beans? >> It's baby clothes. You scan everything as baby clothes. Like this is Nike. These never go on sale. What's that? >> All right. I got everything going on tonight. >> Is this So, are you putting tags on all this and then under ringing it? >> Yes, I do. >> Okay. Is this a common thing for you or is this just a one time thing? I mean, how many how often do you do this? >> Oh, no. This is I don't know what I was thinking. >> So >> you have a coals card. I'm going to run that coals card and if I have more instance of you doing the same thing, I'll reach out back to that and it'll rescue. >> No, this is the first time you ever done this. >> It's pretty advanced for a first timer. >> No. >> No. Never been arrested for it at all? >> Not for this. >> Not for this. Okay. Excuse me. >> Do you still live in Hampshire? >> Yes, sir. >> According to the woman, she's never done anything like this before. The officers, however, remain skeptical based on how the incident allegedly unfolded. >> Go with it. >> You're back. I bet you guys a real total. >> Yeah, I would appreciate it. Of course. And then you're able to get like a receipt or actual. >> Thank you. You >> good? Okay. >> How'd you get here tonight? >> I just drove. >> You drove yourself. Okay. So, your car is at the parking lot. Okay. So, I guess my question to you is what's the reasoning behind this? I mean, there's got to be a reason, right? If it's food cuz you're hungry, you don't have enough money. That's understandable. But these are just these are clothing items, right? So, what's the reasoning behind it? >> Sounds stupid. >> Okay. Those are tags stickers. Um, >> where did you get those? >> The tags and stickers that you placed on different items to pay the lower price. Did you bring those from home? Did you take the store >> from clothes in the store here today? >> What's a phone number for you? So, did you when you put the stickers on it, was that >> Sorry. >> When was this out when you're like pulling the items off the shelf? You didn't put the sticker on it and then put in your cart or did you do it all at the register? >> When did you put the stickers on the items? >> At the register. >> At the register. And then you scanned them and then you put them in the cart. >> Okay. >> Just a sticker. >> About how long would you say you were in the store? >> About an hour, I would say. >> An hour. >> 45 minutes. before you came to the store. Um, what types of items did you plan on getting here today? >> The sweatshirt and the boots for someone that needed them. >> While the officers wait for the itemized receipt from store staff, the woman can only wait to find out what comes next. >> What's going to happen? >> We're waiting. And the reason we're waiting is because we don't know. Depending on the value of what you didn't pay for will depend if you're going to have to come with us or not. >> If it's over a certain value, it's a felony. It's under that value, it's a misdemeanor. >> So, she only paid about $111 for the stuff and total is 504. >> It was 120 something. >> Yeah. With taxes. >> Yeah. So, I I have to go and see which one she with her receipt did receipt that they printed it out. >> Oh >> yeah. >> So most of the items. So see how it's like $3, $4, $6. >> Mhm. >> Yeah. >> So she paid a total of one with not the tax 58 >> and the the total amount which is actually should have been >> over 50469. >> Okay. So 504 69 and then I'm sorry. Can you show what's the 113? >> It is 11358. >> Okay. >> It's what you paid for. >> Okay. Can we talk outside then? >> I'll be right back. >> At this point, the value of the merchandise becomes an important factor and the officer explains what that could mean for [music] the case. So from there we get from that that's going to be >> it's about like 400 and something >> just under 400 bucks like three something. So she doesn't have a CQH. >> What's that? >> Um she doesn't have a criminal history. >> Okay. >> Um being that it's just 100 over some of the states attorney might be a little more hesitant to approve felony charges. So leave it more probably guaranteed a mismere charge or do you want to we could still do a village [music] ordinance citation or we still bring her back? >> My problem is like I'm going to run her card. >> Mhm. >> And she's going to have more. >> Yeah, cuz this is way this is way too >> She has a Kohl's card. I can run it through our system and it pops up anytime and every time she's been here, >> right? >> Oh. Oh, yeah. That's right. You can't can Okay. So then cuz then we'll have her IDed and then it be a lot easier to figure that out. So I'll tell you what I'll do then. You want to obviously you want to move with the misdemeanor charge then? Okay. Uh well guaranteed misdemeanor. >> I'm going to still try for the felony. >> Okay. >> Um I need um >> can I get pictures of all the items and then uh the train her? So that's her receipt. >> This is her receipt. This is the receipt that she paid for. So she paid for these items >> up there. >> This is the correct one. Yeah, this is yours. This the one that uh I scan everything. And even on the car you can see though like these not so I mean like these like what this house was um some of these are different. This one she even just scan these baby clothes are real. She did pay for these baby clothes the ones that are marked on there but like this one the sticker on the box was like this. >> So that's how it was and I ripped it off so I can scan the actual one. >> Mhm. Okay. I guess she tried like putting like other ones on here. I think that's not the correct 20 there. So I think she just Okay. So can I see that real quick? I just wanted my body camera. Actually, this is hers, isn't it? >> Yeah, that's the worst thing that she paid for. >> Same thing with these like Nike sweaters. >> The paperwork is nearly complete. Now the [music] officers collect the remaining photos and evidence before wrapping up the case. This was just I I I went ahead and played scam it, but it was like wrap like this. So, you can't even tell if you're like just watch. Okay. I'm going to get her going then. Um >> and then I'll when she leaves, I'll lay this on the floor, take a picture of it, and send it to you. >> Uh >> or she want just >> I'll probably ask golf to do it for me. Um golf is really it's nothing issue. It's just especially with it being tags under pricing. I'd rather have more pictures than not. So, more uh if you wouldn't mind after uh taking good pictures of all of them and whatnot, especially the tags and whatnot. >> Okay. All right. I'm going to need you to stand up, ma'am. If you want to put all that stuff in your purse, I'd appreciate it. >> Okay. >> What are you going to do? >> Okay. I need you to turn around. Okay. >> You're going to be placed under arrest. Okay. >> Yes, ma'am. Because it's retal. >> Okay. in front of everybody. Don't walk out. >> Sorry, man. Policies are policies. Nothing against you. >> Am I going to go to jail? >> You're going to go with me. >> Please forgive me. I didn't mean to do that. >> You didn't mean to do it. You said you did it on purpose. >> I know, but I didn't mean to do it. I just wasn't thinking. >> You mean you didn't mean to get caught? >> I'm sorry, sir. Let me ask you something. Those boots, are those for your husband? >> See, camag 2041. >> What would your husband think if he knew that you didn't pay for those to get them for him? >> He would be very upset. >> Yeah. All right. You wouldn't mind standing up, ma'am? I got to just make sure you got nothing on you. >> Okay. This is your car key. I'll put that in your so we don't lose that. Luckily, no pockets. >> The woman becomes emotional, but there's nothing she can do to change what will happen next. [snorts] >> I'm so sorry. >> Men new black. Where'd you pull that one from? the tag from us the code, I think it was. >> Okay. >> All right. So, this is what's going to happen. You're going to walk out with us and you're going to get in the back of my squad car and I'm going to take you to our police department. Okay. Do you have any questions before we start moving? >> No. Okay. >> But there's any way you cannot do this in front of me just in case. >> Man, there's barely it's it's night time. Nobody's really out there. >> Okay. Trust me, it's not like it's in the middle of the day. That would been I that I can definitely understand. Just follow that officer >> here. Just put my hoodie on then. >> No, ma'am. Please move. >> He's got the car right here for you. >> I paid for. How about that happens? I knew something went on. >> We're Don't worry, that's all going to get figured out. >> The encounter ultimately led to the woman being charged with felony retail theft. Woman's innocent act didn't fool these officers. This next case begins with a traffic stop after officers identified a vehicle allegedly connected to thefts from Walmart and Home Depot. Watch how the investigation unfolded. said that she just came from Starbucks, not from Walmart. Uh said she was there, but earlier in the afternoon, so >> Okay. >> Yeah. But she does have a bunch of bags and stuff in the uh back seat for >> Okay. >> Okay. >> So, I don't know why. >> So, you said you left Walmart a couple hours ago. >> Yeah. And then it was well maybe it was like an hour ago and then I went to um Goodwill after you met you. We're going to figure it out. >> Hey Campbell, what time was that picture you capture that's not the case? Oh, it is a case before we bought sunflower seeds. Uh, >> thanks. >> Were you going to show me that again? Sunflower seeds, a blender, cuz the camera shows you leaving at 4:05, not an hour. I mean, I don't know what they're >> You don't have a receipt or anything? >> I don't normally take them cuz they fill them out. >> So, >> yeah. What about your online order? >> I think that was >> you use a Walmart app? >> No. Oh, wait. Is there a secret? >> Officers continue waiting to see if the woman can provide proof that everything in the vehicle was paid for. However, she's choosing her words carefully. >> I thought I clicked the button, but >> honestly, I mean, >> do you bring your own bags in then? >> Yeah, usually. >> Okay. So, did you get all the stuff from Walmart? No. Flowers in the bag. >> Oh, I saw them at Walmart, too. >> I didn't know. >> What's in the What's in the bags then? >> Or what did you What did you What did you buy? >> I bought some frozen food, a piece of of pizza. That's going to go bag if it's in the bag. >> But I mean, I don't know why they would accuse me of something like that. I mean, I just walked out cuz I had >> Hey, and >> I don't know why they would have given me this. >> Did you pay for everything? Of >> course. >> Can you show me what's >> there? And >> so, can you show me if you did it online, then you would have had that order online on your phone? >> No, I didn't do an online order. >> You said you just told me that you >> No, sometimes I click the button for paper receipt. Sometimes I click the button for me. >> So then why did you show me something on your Why are you trying to show me something on your phone if you didn't do an online work? >> I Because you can do e receipt. >> Yeah, but do you have one? >> I thought I could e receipt. Maybe I could and just walked out. >> So you don't have any receipt? >> No, but honestly I mean >> packages um and then she got frozen pizza on, you know, bag. We got to wait to to see what Walmart says. >> Did you use a a cashier or did you use a selfch checkout? >> On what? Which side of the store? On the the outdoor side or the uh was it the market side? >> Um >> I walked over there. The questioning continues, [music] but the woman's hesitation isn't doing her any favors. >> You don't remember what? >> No, it was a market side and then I went to go look for something else cuz then I was like, you know what? Time to go cuz it's already 4:00. >> So, you went to the market side and then you left or did you go back in the store or >> No, I went back in the store to look for something else and I'm like, you know what? I don't need that. Okay. >> I don't know what I do with this if I grab one or >> what did you call that lady? >> I said I probably but I >> So you're you're not you're not telling me that truth. >> She can't right now. >> But how can you tell somebody that I put it in the bag? >> She said she never got a printed one and then >> she thought she went paperless but they never emailed. printed a receipt or if I clicked the button. >> Did you use cash card? >> Um, >> she doesn't know. >> Cash. >> Used cash? >> Yeah. >> Okay. How much was it? >> It was I don't know like 40. >> 40. >> 40. >> All that stuff. The the two plants are more than $40. >> Those plants are from Home Depot. She's saying she used she used just tens, fives, 220s. >> Um 20 >> she used a 20 and two 10 >> apparently. >> Yep. >> All right. I'm gonna move our cars out. >> Yeah, just give him a couple minutes. He'll give us a call. >> To verify her story, one of the [music] officers contacts the store. However, what loss prevention tells them paints a very different picture and it immediately puts the woman's account into question. >> And then went back into the store where you're saying, >> "Yeah." And then he walked out the other side. Then you walk out the other side. >> When loss prevention was trying to like get a hold of you and stuff, why'd you like keep walking? >> Because they have no right to >> They work for the store. >> They work for the store. It's their job. >> I get that. But >> I told him about that part. >> Yeah. But don't you see think it seems a little weird if someone from Walmart's asking to show you a receipt or for you to show them a receipt and then you say, "I have one, but I'm not going to show you." And then you just keep walking. >> I don't know if I printed it or stuffed it in my bag. I'm sorry. >> So, how much stuff did you buy with your $40? >> I bought a bar and pizza. >> A pizza. Um, some Pop-Tarts and um, what's it called? Granola bars. I got some lemon juice. >> Lemon juice. >> Mhm. >> Okay. >> And I want to cook dinner later. >> So, lemon juice, granola bars, a pizza, and pop-tarts. >> No, I also got uh sweet tea. >> Sweet tea. for those five things. >> No. And I got uh >> Okay. >> Espresso. >> Espresso. Six. >> You want us to We look through your bags just so we can say, "Hey, these are the itemized things that she said that she bought. We can compare it to what they think that you took. If it's $40 worth, it's $3 worth." So, it's probably the easiest way to help you out in this case if you're saying you're telling the truth. >> One more question. Once again, officers give the woman a chance to tell the truth. >> I mean, if you stole, you stole. Did you steal? >> No, I did not. >> Okay. Do you want to prove your innocence and show what's in the bags? >> It'd just be so simple. If it was if I was in your shoes right now and I was with two >> I know you're just trying to do your job but I don't like people. >> I I get that. >> We're giving you the benefit of the doubt. >> Go home to eat my pizza to get my flowers home. I'll say officer. What are you talking about? Look at my bag. This is all I have. It was $40 worth. I just told you I bought this stuff. But you're you're not doing that. And that's just making it difficult for me to believe. We're giving you the benefit of the doubt and having you giving you the ability to show us what you bought. >> I I know. I can't see it though. >> I know >> cuz it did end once you guys come in. You're going to start looking for everything. >> Is there something in the car that shouldn't be in the car? >> No, we cut it all off. No, I'm serious. No, I just, you know, privacy and stuff. But honestly, no. In the long run, >> we're not accusing you right now of stealing. We're investigating a theft that may have occurred. That's why we stopped you. It's cuz we got a license plate. Walmart said you were stealing. We're giving you We're giving you the we're giving you the benefit of the doubt to prove your innocence and you don't want to. And that's okay. But it would be so much easier if you just let us look in the grocery bags. Because if you did end up stealing, I'm not saying you did, but if you did end up stealing, we're gonna find out. The officer that's at Walmart's coming and he has the video and he's watching the whole store video. We're giving you the benefit of doubt just so if you did not steal, you can prove your innocence. And once he gets here, it's a mistake. That's what's frustrating. We're trying to help you. >> But what do they want from me? Well, they're they're accusing you of stealing. They want to press charges. >> No matter how many times she's asked, the woman continues denying she did anything wrong. Unfortunately [music] for her, the stores have already seen enough and they're moving forward with prosecution. >> So, this is the deal, right? >> This is the deal. Let me talk. They know you took stuff. The other officer that was at Walmart is coming here. They saw you in the store with the bags. Okay. Did you get What did you get at Home Depot? Just the flowers. >> Yeah, the flowers. >> Okay. >> Everything from Walmart is in the bag. >> Okay. So, I'm going to take the bags cuz it's evidence. >> We got to figure out how much it is. >> It's It's not like what? Grand Theft,000. >> It's 300. 300 >> for felony retail theft. It's 300 bucks. >> No, >> it's >> so I have >> not that much honestly. >> I have to figure that out cuz I'm going to take the stuff and take it to Walmart to see how much it's worth. >> Would they let you pay for it? >> That's up to the officers coming. But we they need to figure out how much it is. >> If it's 50 bucks, then yeah, they'll probably let you pay for it. If it's 300. >> No, it's not 300. Probably I don't know like 150. Okay. >> But I can't afford it right now. >> I'm I'm going to get the bags on your back seat cuz it's all evidence. Okay. >> I need you to come out the vehicle. >> Yeah. No. Can I just open up the back door for you? >> Yeah. I don't believe that he came with those either. Home Depot. Okay. And I'm going to go to Home Depot if they have this type of cameras. Okay. So I want you to be asking right now before I do that Walmart for those items for the flowers at Yeah, that was >> Do you have a receipt from Home Depot? >> No. >> No. If they just let me pay for it. >> Realizing where this is headed, the woman [music] tries to backtrack by offering to pay. Unfortunately for her, it's far too late. >> She's admitted to Home Depot theft as well. All the stuff that's in there, she sings from Home Depot. I have the stuff in Walmart. You have a Walmart? >> Yeah. >> With Walmart pay for stuff. to pay for. >> So this is all unpaid for? >> Yes. >> Yes. >> We just We need to bring it back to the store. >> I know. >> Is all this from Home Depot? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> We're going to collect it back cuz we need to get it back to the store. Okay. >> Wait, can I just >> So Lauren, here here's what I'm going to do. Uh, >> you just put it in my car. I can do this part. >> I'll tell you I'll put on the driver side of my car. >> Let me just see Mark 83. >> Wait, can I just please not leave my car right here? We're going to figure that out in just one moment. Okay. Are these too tight at all? >> No, they're fine. >> Let me tell lock them so they don't squeeze up. >> This Walmart dress you have back here, these pants. >> No, that is old. Okay, take off your >> With both stores deciding to press charges, the woman was ultimately charged with retail theft. Shoplifter thinks playing clueless will get her out of trouble. It didn't. On August 9th, 2025, officers in Ohio confronted a woman in a drive-thru after she was reportedly involved in a shoplifting incident at Kohl's. Here's what happened next. >> Hello. >> How you doing? >> Good. Getting cheese sticks. >> All right. Still from Still from Coohl's just a minute ago? >> No, not I I was shopping. >> Whenever Whenever you get done, we're going to pull out and stop over here if we can figure this out. pull over to the parking beside over here. >> Well, yeah, we're fine. Yeah, >> you got your ID on you? >> Yeah, we haven't been over there yet. Do you have any idea why Cole said you were stealing? >> No. Listen, >> that's why we're stopping. In the past, >> Walmart said you were stealing. That's why we're stopping. >> Walmart. In the past, I haven't. >> Cole's Cole's called and said you were stealing. That's why we're here. >> They said you stealing today. That's why we're >> No, this Listen, that girl has a vendetta from me. I'm telling you. Is >> that all you got? Did you already pack? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Are you he's going to pull up just pull over here to the left to the place over here. Okay. >> Right here. >> Why we stay here? >> Where's Chad at? >> I mean, I haven't been together for a while. >> I try, buddy. I try. I guess I can't >> I'm on a different page right now. >> So, you got you got a receipt for the stuff you bought or what? >> My friend does. My friend's mom. >> I was take dropping off to her daughter for >> Why does your friend mom have your receipt? >> Because it's her her daughter's birthday stuff and she's leaving. >> Step out here. Open this door and step out. >> You don't even have a license anyway. >> I know. Can I eat or no? >> Yeah, you can step out of the car and eat. Yeah, I don't care. >> See, the whole cart full. Yeah. >> What's this bag of clothes back here that you got here? >> That's going to the daughter. >> Did you Did you get that today or what? >> Just have a seat over here on the curb. >> So, did you get Did you get the clothes from Kohl's today? The one in the bag or what? >> No. Get back here. >> Can you grab line one when you get the family? >> While the vehicle is being searched, another officer reads the woman her rights before giving her a chance to explain what happened. You have a right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in court. You right to talk to a law and present while you're being questioned. If you can't afford to hire a law and want to be appointed represents you any questioning, you assign any time to exercise your rights. No answer for questions or make a statement as you talk to her. You understand? >> Yeah. >> Are you okay to talk to us? >> Yeah. I mean, >> all right. So, they said, now listen, they said you pushed the whole cart out. So, that's not a mistake if that's what happened. >> No. I mean, I had a bag in the cart, >> but I I didn't I didn't take it. have a >> if it had been if it had been done then it was on her not me. >> They said they had a whole car of stuff you didn't pay for you pushed out. >> No. >> Okay. >> There's two big bags full of stuff in here. >> Set that stuff down. We got to put you in handcuffs. You have a warrant. >> Can I have my dad come get his truck, please? >> We'll worry about that later. But >> Well, that's fine, but I don't want it to >> We got to cuff you up cuz you got a warrant for your wrestling county. I'm sure you know what that's about. Is it like probation or something? Huh? >> No, I was supposed to have court and I was in another judging. >> Okay. All right. So, now let's let's solve this since we got that. You are under arrest for the Play County warrant. Did you not pay for anything? Let's make it easier. Did you pay for what did you pay for? >> I didn't cuz it's not mine. >> The stuff you pushed out of the store. Is there anything you did not pay for? >> It should have all been paid for >> by you. >> No, not by me. >> Was there somebody else with you? >> Yes. >> Oh, where are they at? >> On their way to Columbus. >> They're not with Okay. That's why I said her her daughter her daughter lives right over here and she asked me to take it to her for her birthday for her granddaughter's birthday. >> That right there all new here, too. She threw this bag back here. >> This stuff's all new. That stuff's all new. This board game here is new. >> Officers find several items inside the woman's vehicle. Now they need to determine whether she can prove any of it was actually paid for. Do >> you have a receipt for that stuff? And I it's with her. That's what I said. I don't >> What's her name? >> Jennifer. >> Jennifer >> Tet. >> Tag it. >> Okay. >> How How'd she leave? >> Walk. >> She know she drove. >> Why? Okay. So, why would she throw the stuff in your car? I don't make any sense. So, >> she had to go to Columbus. >> Okay. >> It's her granddaughter's birthday. She asked me if I would take her stuff to her granddaughter. >> So, I I agree. >> Yeah. They didn't say that she pushed it out there. They said you did. That's the thing. >> I had a golfer. Yeah. But she she it was her stuff. She told me it was it was done. >> Do you have anything on your illegal in your pockets? >> No. Do >> you have anything else in your pockets, Sam? >> I have some cash. I just have you have a seat while we figure this out. I have my phone. >> Yeah, I got it. >> My seat here >> in the cruiser. >> I don't see nothing in there. It's like water tickets. >> Yeah. >> See nothing else. >> Listen, you know Kohl's has the best cameras in town, right? >> If if you did steal something, it's clear as day. I don't think she would have had time to move anything. >> No. When I was I stopped her right here. She threw that bag in the back. As long as I throw that pink bag. >> How did her her cart end up with you? I guess. Did Did you Are you the one that physically pushed the card out? >> Yeah, unfortunately. >> Okay. And you're just saying you assume she paid for it? >> Yeah. >> Okay. You can set that on my tailgate if you want to go through it. That's why I put the other one. >> Said she was with somebody else. Jennifer and But she's the one that pushed it out. She just thought she paid for everything. Most of the merchandise appears to be toys and children's items. The woman says it was all paid for, but according to loss prevention, that's not what happened. She said that Jennifer has a receipt that she left in her car to get a compass and asked her to bring all that stuff. >> She did say she's getting stuff for a kid's birthday. So that was that would make She said she was getting stuff for a kid's birthday parties. That would make sense. Why she has all the kids stuff? >> Yeah, she's shopping without any money. >> Yeah, shopping with her money. I guarantee somebody put a beer can in my truck. >> I see that. A Modello, too. Or no, it's natural light in there. This might be a felony how much clothes everything is. >> I didn't see nothing else, Shane. We went through the hole. Yeah, they're going to have to get a price list of this stuff. >> I'll run up there and see if I can't get a receipt. Okay. >> And uh maybe get some video about what happened. >> Yeah, just let me know. Would you take it? It >> don't matter.
