I have video footage uh that says Els. Okay. >> Well, what does I mean? What does this video footage say? >> So, does this mean he stole someone? >> Cuz uh >> take that face out of there. >> You don't want it? >> Uh, no. I don't want my wife to see it. >> Oh, she don't know. >> Okay. So, >> on April 28th, 2023, officers responded to a fancy apartment complex in downtown Athens after a report of a theft. The woman reported that it was actually her maintenance man. What he didn't know is that she's assumed to be lawyer and knows exactly how to get the evidence. She needs to put it behind bars. >> At which point I've cut it to switch to, you know, and all of the raw videos are on there too, but the combined one after 30 seconds of the living room and you see him wrestling, it switches to the point of view from inside the drawer, you know, you see them and then it switches back for him to turn back on the power and leave and everything. Uh, so here here he is and there's sound which is key for everyone and he speaks a little bit. Who's back at the candy and you decide it's not worth it. >> Oh my lord. Great camera view. >> This guy. >> Good job. Good job. That guy looks sketchy. >> And the last key part is when the power gets switched back on. You know that you can go. >> Thanks, buddy. >> Mhm. that distinct sound of a breaker turning back on. >> Also, when he when he initially and like before he gets in the drawer, >> he comes over near our camera. >> We have we had a decoy. >> We had a decoy. He had just we had we had we had confirmed once we knew he was aware that we had a camera and it would it would make noise when it would it was loud. It was like a little servo motor that's obvious. He knew about that. That's why he shut the power. Well, then we did. We put a uninter interruptible power supply in. >> I've uh just seeing that I' i've got enough to go make the arrest. Um >> just I guess double check on the ID of the I mean it's individual. >> Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'll I'll go down there and >> I think it's there's a chance I'm confused. I've always been confused of the names. There's a chance. >> I will go down there and speak to leasing manager. Um >> I'm in this this folder. This was all for you to keep. I've got copies of all except for my license. >> Uh let me finish getting your information. Huh? >> Here in law school. So >> Okay. Well, congratulations. >> I'm actually about to gra to graduate. So, it's it's been I've been here seven years in Athens. >> God bless you. That's uh it's a long time to go to school. >> Yes. I I've lived Athens. I'm going to miss it. I'm heading back to Atlanta, but I'm not doing this this kind of thing. I'll be working, you know, business type law. So, And do you think that something would happen on this today? Like, >> uh I'm going there now. Yeah. >> I I mean, yeah. The only reason I ask is because I'm I'm nervous to even leave the apartment because I'm scared to run into him. I would have to act natural. >> No, I'm uh >> I'm not good at acting natural. >> I'm going to contact my sergeant and let him know what's going on and that I have enough and I've seen enough to make an arrest and then from there we just leave it up to the judges. >> Okay. Well, thank you so much for your help. >> Yes, ma'am. Thank you. Have a good rest of your day, hun. >> The officer reached out to the apartment's management to identify the man in the video. The manager couldn't believe her maintenance man of 10 years would do something like this and had to see the video to believe it. >> So, um, my name is Officer Rogers. I'm with Assault County Police Department. Okay. So, right now I'm investigating a theft. >> Okay. >> Of one of your maintenance guys. >> Okay. >> Um, are any of your maintenance guys working today? >> They're both here. >> They're both here. Okay. Do you know their names? >> Yeah, of course. Dave and Tim. >> Dave and Tim. Okay. Uh those were the two names that were given to me by the victim. Okay. >> Okay. >> Um she called and reported that a theft had happened in her apartment. Um one of the maintenance guys, I don't I I can't tell you who it is cuz she told me it was either Dave or Tim. Um, but I seen the video proof and she has video proof on her cameras, which is in my car of one of your maintenance guys going into her apartment, cutting the power off before going in there, looking around, getting pills out of a pill bottle, looking opening the door back, looking at a pack of candy, putting it back, and then as he's walking out, you can clearly hear him open the panel to the breaker box and turn the breakers back on. >> Can I see that footage? Um, if uh if you got an office, I can I got the hard drive in my car. >> I can we can hook up the hard drive and I can let you see it. >> Okay. Yeah. >> That way you can help me identify who >> who it is. That would be a wonderful help. It's a really nice building here. >> Thank you. >> Not even going to lie. I've been in Clark County for three year three three years now and I've never been in this building. >> How's it going? >> Hey, how's it going? This is my back office. It's a hole in the wall, but it lets me get some work done. So, >> okay. You mind if I shut this door? >> Yeah, go ahead. Didn't have to see it to believe it. Our maintenance has been with us both of them for a very long time. >> So, >> so I guess I'm not I What? So, what's happening? Who's >> Can you identify him? >> Yeah, I can. I just can't believe what I'm seeing. Is that Mr. Tim? >> Yeah, >> Tim. >> Yeah. >> Okay. U She also say that she's noticed things missing around her apartment. That's why she put in the cameras in the first place. You're more than welcome to go through the camera footage. And that's where it was. So, >> yes, ma'am. And then I think this one right here, living room 2, shows him cutting the breakers back on. >> Why did he do that? I guess he assumed the cameras were plugged in somewhere. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Oh my god. All right. >> See, watch. All right. What do you mean to do? Uh, >> I'm going to interview him and we'll see where it goes from there. >> Give him a call. >> Uh, yes, ma'am. Can I have my hard drive back? >> Yeah. I'm sorry. >> It's okay. I know it's pretty hard to believe. I used to be a maintenance guy myself. I mean, I hate to do it, but is there a way that you can call him in the office and me and him can have us sit down talking here? Would you advise him that he is not meeting that? Just don't tell him he's meeting with me. Okay. >> Yeah. Okay. because I don't want him to run. If he runs and I have to chase him, be pretty upset. >> Can you meet me in the security room? >> I sure can. >> All right. Thank you. >> I'm sorry this happened, but I wanted to I wanted to speak to you, let you know what was going on inside of your building. Okay. >> Yeah. Will you um let me get you my business card and will you just let me know what or I'll be here? I mean, will you let me know what happens after this? Like going to be arrested? >> Uh if he confesses, yes, he will be. >> Oh my god. I'm almost positive that that's the guy that I tried to ID and if I'm not mistaken, he does possibly have a warrant for DUI, something like that. >> I'm not aware of that. That doesn't mean anything. Obviously, I'm not aware of things. >> That sticker on that car is pretty funny. >> Yeah, that's our other maintenance plan. Aside from our lobby, nothing else is uh all that fancy for what we use. >> Yeah, that's fine. >> I'm sorry. It's Officer Rogers. >> Yes, ma'am. >> I'm Haley. >> Yes, ma'am. Nice to meet you again. Like I said, I'm I'm sorry this happened. I used to work maintenance before I became a cop, so I I understand how it is. >> I'm really shocked. I don't I don't know what to say. Um >> you wouldn't expect it to happen in your your building and your place of work. No. Um I mean I guess if you need to show him the proof then um access one of these hard drives. >> Do they park their vehicles in here? >> Yeah, they're right there. >> Okay. >> Our maintenance supervisor is in the green Jeep and uh Tim is the white truck. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Hey. >> Hey. How's it going? >> Not bad. How you doing? >> Doing good. Uh can you step up for a second, please, ma'am? >> All right. You can have a seat for me now. >> Sure. First off, let me introduce myself. Okay. Okay. >> I'm Officer Rogers. I'm with the Aquar County Police Department. Okay. >> You know why I'm here today? >> Not a clear. >> Okay. Um, well, before I start questioning you, >> Sure. >> I'm going to read you your rights. Okay. You're not under arrest. >> Okay. You're not under arrest right now. Okay. >> All right. >> Yeah. The right to remain silent. Anything you're saying can do you understand those rights they've been given to you? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. So, you don't know why I'm here right now? >> No. >> Okay. Did you do any work orders yesterday? I'd imagine to say you did maintenance. I did. >> Yeah, I did several. >> Okay. Are you specialized in heating and air or anything like that? >> I mean, we both do all of it. >> Okay. I understand. I used to be a maintenance guy myself. I was just telling your manager how I used to be a maintenance guy. >> Yeah. >> Before I became a cop, I used to work at um Monument Real Estate. >> Um >> uh it used to be I think they got bought out. It was um Yeah. And then I worked at of course section 8 housings. cuz I worked at Rolling Ridge and Bethl >> Midtown Gardens and also also in Clark Gardens. So I've been through the section 8 brother. I know what I know what that's all about. A >> little rough. >> Oh yeah. >> Especially when you're working in there and you hear gunshots. >> Well, I'll tell you what. When the the whole um what was his name? Jamie Hood. >> Yeah, >> that whole hood situation. >> Yeah. >> He had family lived over there in Athens Gardens. Oh crap. So we had we had an officer at the end building with with like assault rifles. >> I'm sure it was assault rifles. I came around the corner and I was like, "Oh crap, man." Dude. >> Okay. So, I just kind of wanted to give you a little background on me, okay? >> Uh to let you know we're not too we're not very different. Okay. Right. >> We came from the same background, brother. I mean, I work maintenance. You work maintenance. >> Yeah. >> Um do you remember going to apartment yesterday? >> Yes, sir. >> You did. What did you do over there in that apartment complex? In that apartment. >> The uh I cleaned the coil. She had an impacted coil. Her air conditioner was dripping into the water heater closet. Okay. >> So, I cleaned her evaporator board. >> Okay. Is that all you >> air filter? >> Okay. Is that all you did in there? >> Yeah. >> Are you sure? >> I did. Yeah, I did that and uh filled out our work order and our coffee like normal maintenance guys do. Okay. We used to stick them on the refrigerator. They had magnets. Is that all you did? You didn't do anything else? You didn't go through no drawers, anything like that? >> No. No. >> Are you sure? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. That's all I want to know. Are you 100% positive you didn't do anything else? >> Not that I think of. >> Okay. >> Why? What's up? >> Um, well, I have video footage saying else. Okay. So, is there anything you want to tell me? >> Um, what what did I do? What I mean, what's on that? >> Well, I mean, you you tell me. I mean, I know what's on there, but you went into there into the apartment complex. >> Yeah. Um, I've identified you as far as management goes. I've been here 3 years. I ain't never I told your manager, I ain't never been in this building. I've been working here for three years, which is amazing. Beautiful building, though. By the way, y'all upkeep it pretty good. I ain't going to lie. >> It's a It's a hand. >> Um, I imagine so. Um, but uh I have video footage uh that says Els. Okay. >> Well, what did I mean? What does this video say? >> Not really obligated to say right now cuz it's still an ongoing investigation. Uh, that's why I'm I'm questioning you. Okay. Like I said, you're not under no arrest right now. Okay. >> So, I just need to know if that's all you did. >> Yeah. I mean, I didn't I mean, I wasn't rifling through people's drawers. >> Okay. What's your name, boss? >> Tim. >> Okay. You go by Timothy. Is Timothy? >> Timothy is the >> Timothy is your full name. Okay. What's your date of birth? >> 1978. >> Then you don't want you don't want to tell me anything that you did in there. I mean, >> other than the work order, >> I can't recall anything. >> Okay. >> I mean, what I mean, I'm not sure I'm not sure what what I'm supposed to have done. >> Okay. All right, man. Well, I'm going to get out of here. All right. Thank you for talking to me. Sure. >> I appreciate you. Have a good rest of your day. Don't let him work you too hard, brother. >> Ouch. And that's really not. After getting the warrant signed and bringing back up with him, officers had the manager call Mr. Maintenance Guy for the last time. He's going to take a ride with the officers, but not until we hear from his wife and hear how she feels about all this. It took a bit, but once she understood what he did, she was not happy. >> Happen? >> Yeah, I signed the warrant. >> Can Is there another place we can do it? Does it have to be right here? Can we go to the back like we did before, or does it need to be public? Um, >> where wherever you want, wherever you want to go with it. >> Where where going to be less confrontational with this. >> Would I be able to unlock this door right here for y'all to take him out so it doesn't have to go through the lobby? >> Yeah, that's fine. If you want to do that, that's great. >> Oh, man. Thank >> Yeah. >> You look like a black guy. White guy. >> White guy. >> White guy. >> Mhm. >> Okay. >> About your height. about your size. Maybe a little bit scrawnier. I don't know cuz he was wearing a jacket. The >> store is unlocked. Okay. Go up that way. That would be great. Appreciate it. >> So, the front desk lady caught him up there. >> Yeah. >> Is there a way that you can get him to come back here? >> Yeah. >> Hey, are you able to come down to the warehouse? Yeah. We need you to come down now. The officers are back with more questions for you. Thank you. I guess we're lucky we've never ever had anything like this happen before. >> It's a pretty interesting case. S Rogers are telling me about it's not every day you have somebody who's >> This is the first case I've ever worked like this >> and I've been here almost three years. >> Yeah. >> How? >> Doing good, man. All right. Do me a favor. Turn around. Put your hands behind your back. You got a warrant for your arrest. >> Ow. >> Do you know what you're being charged with at this time? >> No, sir. being charged with theft by taking, misdemeanor, and possession of a schedule two substance. >> Possession of a schedule two substance. >> Yes, sir. >> What is that? >> Possession of a schedule two substance. >> Well, what is a schedule two? >> Like, stuff like that. Something like that. >> Yeah. Specifically, I believe at all. >> Yeah. >> All right. >> Um, we'll probably more out here. We're going to get out of everybody's way. Do you have anything on your pocket that's going to stick me, poke me, harm me, or anything like that when I go to search you? >> Uh, no sir. >> No screwdrivers, anything like that? We can do it right here. We don't make a on the keys in my >> Whose keys are these are these the office keys? You want to leave those here? >> Yeah, that's fine. >> Do you have any personal keys on there? >> Uh, no. My personal keys are in my pocket. >> In your pocket. >> And I've got a uh there's like a multi-tool on it. >> Yeah. >> So, you might want to watch your hand on that. >> Okay. I'm uh I >> hope this one. >> Yeah. I'm not trying to step on your toes or anything. interject, but uh conversation never ended before, right? So, if you want to follow up with them, that's more more than fine with the new evidence or whatever you want. >> Okay. >> All right. Go ahead and spread your feet, horn. So, remember when I was talking to you earlier about you going in that apartment? >> Well, it just comes to find out that I have video evidence of you going into her drawer and taking Adderall pills. >> Okay. >> Okay. Right. You understand that? >> Yeah, I hear what you're saying. >> All right, man. >> This one right here. Go ahead and have a seat. I know you probably got a car here and all that kind of stuff. So, it um if you're able to make arrangements to get bond, you should get a bond here in like an hour or two. It shouldn't be that long and then, you know, you can come get your stuff and all that. Okay. It's not like I don't foresee it being an overnight thing or anything like that. >> Okay. Call my wife. >> Uh so yes. Yeah, you can call your wife if you want to get take care of that. I'll >> Okay. >> Um I just want to let you know that I am getting arrested right now. >> Wait, why? >> Something about they're saying theft by taking from one of the apartments. here. >> Hey, ma'am. >> Hey, can you ask him if he wants to leave his keys here so his wife can pick up his car? >> Yes, I'll ask him. And I got those keys with me, too. But I get those once we're situated here. It came off speaker phone. >> Well, got disconnected. >> I got you. >> Yeah. So they're they're picking me for something about death by taking and saying I got possession of schedule two substance or something. I don't know. >> Why Why are you not at work? >> I am at work. They came and got me here at work. >> What are they talking about? >> All right. Can >> I don't mean to interrupt. Hey >> this is going on. >> Hey ma'am. This is Sergeant Walker of the police department. I know you got a ton of questions. The main thing right now is getting him bonded out as soon as he can and then y'all can discuss all the particulars of everything else. Okay. Um, and I know you got a ton of questions. That's totally natural. I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm just trying to get to the important part because he's going to need help bonding out here in about 2 hours. >> Uh, where do I go from this? >> So, he's going to be at the Clark County Jail. Are you familiar with Athens? >> Yes, I'm in Athens right now. >> Okay. So, the Clark County Jail is over on the east side by Lowe's and the tag office for Athens. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> So, y'all are charging him with theft by taking of >> uh possession of schedule two and theft by taking. Now, both of those are going to have preset bonds. That's the good news because the bad news would be if he had to sit and wait to see a judge cuz that would that would be tomorrow. But, he'll have a preset bomb when he gets there. He's going to be able to call you from the jail, but you can go ahead and start working on getting with the bondsman to get him out if that's what you want to do. Uh, okay. So, go to our bon right now. >> If I were in your situation, that's what I would do. And tell them, you got to remember the charges, though, so they can go ahead and start helping you. And but they're not going to be able to bind him out until he gets booked in. And that'll be about an hour, hour and a half. >> Uh, taking substance. >> No, possession of schedule two. >> Can you tell me what that is, please? >> It's just possession of Adderall. They said I had aderall, honey, but I don't have anything. >> So, you can charge for something he doesn't have. >> So, if you tell them those charges, it's theft by taking misdemeanor. >> Okay? >> Because there's a difference between that and felony and then possession of schedule two. They will go ahead and they they'll already know what the bond is and tell you how much that is to get him out. But then they won't physically be able to get him out until he's booked in. >> Okay. I'll have to come back into Athens and do this. I have I have to go home. I have kids. Get off the bus. >> Yeah. Yeah. There's no huge hurry because like I said, it's going to be two hours before he can get out anyways, probably thereabouts. It depends on how busy they are, but so it's not like you have to do this immediately. I mean, I'm sure he would he would appreciate sooner rather than later, but >> I mean, I know I know they're not going to just set me out on the curb and go wait for you. So, >> yeah. >> Well, you don't be worried about that that jail life. You be worried about me when you get home. >> All right. So, he will be able to call you from the jail, though. I'm going they'll let him get your number out of the phone, but he will be calling from a unknown or not an unknown number, but it'll be like an Athens number, but you won't have it in your phone, obviously. Okay. So, just be looking out for that. >> Okay, I will. >> All right. Do you have any other questions I can answer for you right now about getting him out? >> A substance number two. >> Schedule. Schedule two. That's pretty good. They'll know what you're talking about. Yeah. >> Okay. And then misdeme misdemeanor theft by taking. >> Misdemeanor theft by taking. So does this mean he stole someone's aderall? >> I'll let him talk to you about that >> because uh all I can do is tell you the charges. I want to get in his business and then um but the main thing is I do want him to have help getting out cuz he's been cooperative and all. So we're not here to punish anybody. So we just want to make sure he has what he needs. >> Thank you. >> Well, you handle whatever you need to, but the main thing is making sure he had a way to get out. That was my main concern. Okay. I think you explained it good. Thank you. >> All right. Thank you. I'll let you talk to him before you hang up. >> Okay. >> All right. >> In somebody's apartment. >> She's good on the >> Yeah, >> she's good on what she needed. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. >> Yeah, I would definitely ask for proof of that. If you don't feel you really did it, but if you know you did it, you might as well do it. >> Yep. I hear you. >> All right. Well, I'll do it again. >> All right, honey. I love you. And uh they said watch for a restricted number. >> I love you too. >> Take that tape out of there. >> You want to hit it one time? >> Throw it away. >> You don't want it? >> Uh no. I don't want my wife to see it. >> Oh, she don't know. Uhuh. >> Okay. So, you are giving me permission to get rid of this? >> Okay. >> He doesn't want his wife to know he smoke. >> Oh, okay. >> I don't want my wife to know about that. >> I understand. I understand. >> All right. All right, man. You ready? >> Yes, sir. >> All right. >> I know it's a tight fit in there. It's a grocery getter, not a Yeah. Not a person for sticking in. >> Definitely not for a long way. >> Yeah. I'm telling you. All good in the hood. >> Yes, sir. I hope your wife's not going to be too mad at you, man. I know how women can be brutal. >> Oh, yeah. I am not looking forward to that. >> Yeah, I don't blame you. Did you know I was going to come back and get you? I mean, I tried to tell you I had a I had evidence. >> Yeah. I know you didn't design the car, get you to drive it. >> That's it. Believe me, I hate it as much as you do. I don't know. This car is a piece of junk, man. >> Oh, is it? >> Yeah. >> I just got swapped the day shift. It'd get so hot at night, and I'm terrified of how it's going to be during the day now, but it would get it overheat. I'd have to pull over on the side of the road and let it cool off. >> Oh my god. >> Yeah. >> Really? >> Yeah. I've had my brakes go out while I'm running code somewhere. Yeah. >> I mean, all all the taxpayers dollars, you'd think they'd be able to upgrade the >> You would think. I mean, we're getting >> cheap. We're getting um new SUVs, but there's it's taking a little while to get here, but we're getting them in gradually, so can't really complain too much about that. Well, they've already sent the warrant over there to the jail. I wish I would have known that before coming here. So, how long you been working there? >> 10 years. >> You've been working for that company or for that building? >> That building. >> Oh, wow. >> Got a strange feeling that's all going to change, though, >> more than likely. But I can't speak for the company. That's something I I do is I keep up with all my certifications even for like heating and air cuz I never know when I'm going to get tired of this job. >> Always keep something on the back burner. >> That's it. Like I still got my heavy equipment operator license I keep up with. It's like I tell my wife, she's like, "I don't know why you do that." I'm like, "Well, you going to thank me one day. You might not know it yet, but one day you might." >> You ever get to the point where you just burn out, need a change of scene? >> I don't know. If I got a call saying that I could start doing heavy equipment for $40 something dollars an hour, I think I'd leave here. No questions asked. >> I don't think there would be a hesitation. >> But you only find jobs like that when you go towards the Atlanta area. And God, I hate Atlanta. >> I hear you. I don't even like driving in Athens traffic Atlanta. >> Me neither. I don't know what I was thinking coming to day shift. >> Having a bad day. Believe it. Yeah. >> Hey. >> Hey.
